Well, we still don’t know what the final lineup of personalities on Georgia’s football radio broadcasts will be this season, but two former Georgia players often mentioned by fans as good prospects probably won’t be among them: Matt Stinchcomb and David Pollack. But that’s because they’ve signed on with ESPN as part of its SEC Network game day TV coverage.
Stinchcomb will serve as the in-studio analyst along with host Rob Stone for the package of noon games being sold by ESPN Regional Television to over-the-air stations (including Peachtree TV in Atlanta) and Stinchcomb and Pollack both will be part of ESPNU’s pregame, halftime and postgame coverage. Stinchcomb also will be part of ESPNU’s “SEC Weekly” program, with Pollack alternating with Charles Arbuckle on that show.
The noon games in the syndication package will be called by Dave Neal, the only member being held over from former syndication rights holder Raycom Sports’ dreaded Three Daves team. Neal will be joined by analyst Andre Ware and sideline reporter Cara Capuano.
Other noteworthy staffing assignments announced by ESPN and ABC include Brad Nessler calling the ESPN prime time Saturday games (usually involving the SEC), with Todd Blackledge back as analyst and restaurant crawler and Erin Andrews on the sideline. Mike Patrick moves to one of the ABC Saturday afternoon games, as does that mistress of the obvious question, Holly Rowe.
The team of Brock Huard and Eric Collins will be working the ESPNU Saturday night SEC games (generally at 7 p.m.). I’m just keeping my fingers crossed that none of the Dogs’ games wind up on ESPNU, since that’s not part of my satellite package.
Meanwhile, Raycom’s not going away completely. Its syndicated “Football Saturdays in the South” series, hosted by Tim Brando, begins its sixth season next weekend. The six one-hour episodes will be seen in Atlanta on WATL and the second one, airing at 5 p.m. July 18, features UGA legend Larry Munson.

CMR should have offered both Pollock and Stinchcomb assistant coaching jobs on defense rather than giving Willie a raise and elevating Jancek as co defensive coordinator. CMR also should give Fabris the boot, this guy had breakdowns last season in getting the right personnel on the field while arguing with Willie on the sidelines. What a wasted opportunity.

Otto, I can understand where you’re coming from but I believe that it would be impossible for Pollack to coach kids into being the kind of player he was. He ran on natural instinct and had a motor that wouldn’t stop. That’s what all coaches preach to all their players, only to get it from few. Sure he would be a great coach of technique but if being a TV personality is what makes him happy, then I’m happy for him.

I’m not sure if Pollack wants to coach, but he has to finish his degree before he will have the opportunity. I agree completely with everyone about Holtz – he slobbers so much I can’t watch on HD – too disgusting. He really lost me a few years ago when he kept talking about D.J. STOKELY, and routinely gets other players names wrong from around the country. I used to dislike May, but Holtz makes him look good.

Andre Ware has become a little better on the tube during the last few years. Remember the first game he did in the booth with CBS? That’d be the 2001 Georgia-Tennessee Hobnail Boot game. He called Damien Gary “Damien Gray” on numerous occassions, referred to David Pollack as David “Po-lock” a few times and relayed that “Vernon” Haynes caught the game-winner. Guess there was only one way to go from there from the former Heisman winner, huh?

Tony Barnhart, Chip Caray, Ernie Johnson, Jr., and Mark Schlabach come to mind in sports.

Well this Dawg fan is:
1. Glad Pollack and Stincomb are doing well outside of football
2. Could care less what ESPN thinks anymore. I say let Lou Holtz talk about Notre Dame and Mark May be a Homer for his weak ass Pitt team. These guys will say teams like Rutgers, East Carolina, and West Virginia are legitimate contenders and they get proven wrong every year. That’s the thing I hate about Sportscasters and Sportswriters, they can say whatever they want and they’re rarely held accountable for anything they say! So why does UGA feel the need to prove themselves to these idiots? I think it makes us look second rate. Just win enough games and ESPN will have to cover us.
