What do you want from Richt’s TV show?
With the new UGA athletics media rights deal with ISP Sports meaning “The Mark Richt Show” might expand to an hour, you’d think we’d get to see more highlights from the previous day’s game.
Loading ...Instead, Thomas said that while UGA wants Richt to comment on the game, they also want him to provide an inside look at the program through features.
I think Thomas is missing the point. Yes, there are various places you can see the game (though some of them require you to pay a fee). But it’s not so much seeing the highlights that fans want as it is seeing highlights with Rich’s commentary about them! Where are we going to get that if not from the coach’s TV show?
As for the plan to expand the features side of the show, it depends on what they have in mind. More player profiles? That would be interesting and worth watching. More canned features about the university? Not so much.

The current show is a joke. When I make myself watch it I feel like I am stepping back into the 70’s and some GPTV program directed by Lauren Smith. It is just really silly.

As much as it pains me to say it as an Alabama fan, Tennessee has one of the best shows around. It is very pofessional. I think Richt’s show, like Saban’s is too short. Definitely make it an hour. Also, the lighting and set of Richt’s show looks like it is done in some basement by a Freshman communications major. UGA can do better.

I am proud to be an actual alum of UGA but no more features on the genetics research lab. That should be on GPTV not the Mark Richt show. I would like to see a better time slot in the Atlanta TV area. midnight sunday on WSB is not exactly a good time for working folks.

I would like it if we got alot of analysis of the different events of the game form Richt for about the first 3/4 of the show and the last segment to be about the upcoming opponent. Oh and no more local IBEW 109 commercials. That guy in the hardhat is a union boss and not somebody I want invading my time focusing on football.

Or how you can get so much love playing a schedule filled with high school teams as your non-cnference opponents. Charleston Southern? Are you serious? Any school that is a city name and directional should not be on an sec team’s schedule. buford high school would probably man-handle them.

More commentary and explanations from CMR on why Willie cannot stop anybody. I swear sometimes it looks like we are running a prevent, cover 8 defense (if that is even possible) and might even be dropping defensive linemen into coverage. I’d also like to hear more from CMR on our redzone offensive woes and why we seem to always run the ball from the shotgun formation on 3rd and 15.

I don’t watch the coaches show that much, but when I do its a total snoozefest. I find the coach’s commentary to be dull boring coachspeak and nothing more. Like he’s going to call out a player for a bad play on that show. Like he’s going to divulge all of their playcalling secrets on that show. If you think you’re getting some kind of inside look at the program with that coach’s commentary you are sorely mistaken. Its total fluff. Perhaps the only redeeming quality of the coach’s show is the interviews with the players after the game and features about them. I would like to see more of that.

More plays & Cmr-less Chuck. He does too much of the talking. Less formal-sit around the table without coats & ties. Let different Assist coach participate each week and player profiles. Each player 7 coach should have been on the proram by the end of the year-good exposure. Behind the scenes. Watergirl is great but needs to be a little more serious.

The best football show of all time was Bear Bryant in the 70’s. He drank whiskey out of a Coke bottle and frequently called players by the wrong name. Richt is “Mister Rogers” in comparison. Anyway, the Richt show will be what Adams says it will be. An hour of Richt will have recruits flocking to Tech.

I haven’t watched the show very much. Mopeds, water girl, etc bore me. I remember football shows back in the 50s, black and white tv, recorded crowd noise all thru the game playback. The best part was an honest opinion by the interviewer and the coach. My suggestion is to start all over with the show, round up a few knowledgeable fans, and have a Q&A with CMR and his asst. coaches. Ask them WHY so many tackles are missed, coverages blown, etc. OFF with the fluff, give us some red meat. We deserve better as UGA fans than the laughable show presented to date. Heck, a tour of Vince’s garden and his pushing a wheelbarrow full of rocks is a lot better than the current show.

Right on Too Easy!! I also remember when the AJC was a REAL newspaper with real reporters. Yep, that was back in the good ole days, that is, before Cynthia Tucker was hired, and well, you know the rest of the story. The AJC quit delivering newspapers to most of rural Ga. including my home town. Back to the new show. Maybe some new recruits at the school of Journalism could be retained for some fresh ideas. Students have some good ideas too, especially after a few brewskis. ANYTHING will be an improvement over the lame shows presented so far. I repeat, GIVE US SOME RED MEAT!!! REAL DAWGS NEED IT.

I would like an hour-long show. The current show is supposed to be 30 minutes but has more commercials than an episode of “The Hills.” If you need to sell that much ad time to pay for the show, have it during the show with cheerleaders carrying a sign across the set. Plus, PLEASE have it start exactly half past the hour or right on the hour. My DVR only works by the half hour and some always gets cut off…or I have to fast forward through a lot of garbage. Ditch the water-girl segment all together–replace that with Munson’s Minute or something where Larry asks Coach a question or two about the game. And a lot of you guys are right…for being a local TV Personality, Chuck Dowdle is really awkward!

I have to agree that the Tennessee show is very well done. The problem with watching the coaches show it is always a tease in that there is no meat to the broadcast..its always like expecting a meal and getting a crappy overpriced appetizer that is cold and no thought is put into….there is so much commercial time and promises of “coming up next” that never deliver anything with any substance…its always fluff. The rush through the game replay is fast paced and done in two minutes….while the replay is going on Chuck will ask a question about a specific play which will be answered as 4 more plays go by….how about a camera at the stadium for postgame “intelligent” questions from fans about game strategy from CMR ….”hey coach, why did we or didnt we go for it on 4th down in the 3rd qrtr? when we at their 45?”…real simple to get 2-3 of those….and leave out the “what are the black bones for?” questions.

Why don’t you have Richt give academic progress reports on all of his “student athletes”, or perhaps report on how many players are attending their AA sessions? Then you might have that UGA dynamo, Loran Smith give one of his whiny reports about his man crushes on Richt and all of the dog players. Oh yeah, and you might have Richt do a show about how they consistently fail to even win their little eastern conference although everyone knows that even their scout team is made up of nothing but 4 and 5 star recruits every year. uga football and its’ fans should be the subject of a feature movie or a weekly TV series…it would be hilarious ( I’m thinking it would be something like Beverly Hillbillies or Green Acres…only dumber). I would see a goofy guy like Jim Carrey as Mark Richt with some ditzy blonde as his wife. If you people had a clue how the rest of the country views uga fans you would throw away that uga cap and go back to your John Deere cap.

My God! I can’t believe that I agree completely with Bill King. You bet! More play-by-play commentary by Coach. The naysayer’s may get a real insight as to what affects the game besides Coach not running the plays they want. Other features can be highlighted inside 5 mins and don’t forget, Evans is the athletic Director and should comment on other sports, not Richt. So unless the Bozos are going to fill another halfhour with advertisements, it should be Coach’s comments.

As a UGA fan and alumni, I was really disappointed in the show last year. It was bad enough that it was only 30 minutes long (15 not counting commercials), but they quit showing game highlights and starting showing too many “segments” about life on campus and the “watergirl wants to know.”
I would like the show to be game highlights and a preview of the next game (a scouting report). Maybe they should also talk about what’s going on around the SEC with the other teams. I like the suggestion that someone made saying to add an assistant coach to the show.
