P.M. Roundup: Linebacker practicing at safety

A few brief items worth noting before heading home …

Mark Richt had mentioned that sophomore backup linebacker Nick Williams, a special teams mainstay last year, might be looked to for depth at safety after John Knox departed UGA due to academic issues. And that’s the way it’s going in summer workouts, junior safety Reshad Jones tells Marc Weiszer of the Athens Banner-Herald. Williams, Jones says, “is pretty versatile, but right now he’s working strictly with the secondary.” …

ESPN.com reports the lineup has been released for SEC Media Days being held July 22-24 in Hoover, Ala., and Georgia’s turn comes on July 23, with two of the more quotable Dogs, quarterback Joe Cox and defensive tackle Jeff Owens, scheduled to be on hand. …

UGA track and field star Chris Hill, who recently won his second straight NCAA javelin title, is forgoing his final season of eligibility to turn pro, the Red & Black reports. Hill has signed with an agent and looks forward to working out a sponsorship with Nike and competing in professional meets across Europe.

The road from Athens to Norman is getting a lot of traffic these days. Veronique Drouin, an assistant coach at UGA for the past four years, is the new head women’s golf coach at the University of Oklahoma. Earlier this week former Georgia player and assistant Ryan Hybl was hired as Oklahoma’s men’s golf coach and former UGA player and assistant John Roddick was hired last week as men’s tennis coach at the school.

A linebacker at safety, sounds like a Thomas Davis/Gregg Blue hybrid.

Will Chris Hill be the number one pick in the Track and Field draft?

Huh?

Chris Hill was just an overrated gunslinger with a big arm. He never showed any leadership or the “it” factor. He routinely put our track & field team in dire straits by making big throws in big meets. Its clear to me that he never really cared about UGA and had his sights set on the pros from day one. I wish him well, but he will not be remembered because he failed to singlehandedly deliver to all of us Georgia fans the national championship that is our God given right by virtue of birth. No junior javelin thrower has ever made much of an impact in Europe though so I wouldn’t expect much.

Good luck Chris. Lets hope the crybaby faction of the Dawg nation gives you a better sendoff than they gave Stafford and Moreno.

I hope this is an indication that WM is spending 15 minutes a day on how to stop GT. we know our safeties can’t. Let me post this again and again. Erk Russell said three thing have to happen every play to stop the option. Hit the QB, hit the RB, and hit the QB. It doesn’t matter whether they have the ball or not. Just hit someone!!!

Nick William is a “wild dawg”. This kid can flat out hit. He plays with a lot of emotions, much like Knowshon. I hope he stays at Safety. We need someone to put fear in WRs coming across the middle. Can’t wait to see #39 in action.

That was a great parody. Pitiful poser.

Hey, nobody agreed or called me on the idea that Ark feels more like a win after knowing it’s a night game. Yes, No, KMA?

“had to”? I don’t recall anyone holding a gun to my head. But if I mis-speak I do try to do the right thing. I suppose I could have done the opposite and just make up a new name everytime I posted. eh? wink

If Nick Williams can be another Thomas Davis, then I am all for it. Those are big shoes to fill, so good luck to Mr. Williams. Our O-line should be one of the best in the conference and in the Nation given the total number of returning starters and coaching abilities of Coach Searels. I believe we will have 8 returning starters with several others that have already contributed. Throw in a few young recruits like Burnette and we are very deep on the O-line. It is Caleb Kings time to shine. If he doesn’t then he may not get another shot with the stable of backs UGA has. I won’t call him a bust as he has not had enough carries to determine that. Good luck to Mr. King and all of the other UGA backs that have a shot at starting. I believe UGA will be much better than most people think. Joe Cox has some game experience and should be a capable QB and if not, then we UGA has three other QBs ready for their chance.

At the very least, the additional work at safety can only help when he is on special team duty.

Safety, line backer, whatever. It’s just one more jock that will need to be picked up after each play.

Good to see that Jeff Owens will be at SEC media days. He is a very good representative of the University and the team.

I had the pleasure of speaking with him and recording an interview on Thursday to be aired on my weekly radio show Friday at 4:30PM EST Link posted below…IT AIRS ON FRIDAY

CUZ you really keep it fun most of the time. Back then the Farah HAIR was real not a wig or weave just for a night or a few weeks. I still think by the 3rd or 4th game A. Murry will be the QB. Nothing against Cox I just think Bobo will get you guys in trouble and they will try Murry to see if it will fix Bobo’s play calling. I could be wrong but we will see. I hate that Miami got rid of (old Auburn QB) Pat Nix as OC the canes might be better but I think TECH can still make it 5 in a row.
CUZ be honest you do that white man overbite when you dance don’t you? HAHAHA! Have fun typing.

I am not sure I an understermating Logan I just think Murry is the Better Passer that can get it to your WR/TE/RBs better if your running game is as good as people think. I am not sold on KING. My sister and her kids goto and went to GAC and I did see King but he was bigger than the smaller players he played against in High School. I think you guys have better backs. Logan’s running ability maybe needed but I think Mark & Mike want a pocket passer more.

I think, THINK, it’s Grey’s pocket passing ability your underestimating. His running skills are just a bonus. But we’ll see…next year.
