HOw about flying back and forth across the country the week before you play BAMA who had a practice game against Ark. the week before? I admit the black out thing was a horrible idea. How about traveling to LSU the week before you travel to Florida? And how about those three time outs and some crappy refs? How about losing half your starters to injury and still getting ten wins? How about a bunch of whiney ass dawg fans that lose all steam and all hope and all love for their team every time something doesn't go their way. By the way, how has that head coaching thing worked out for Van Goiter?

Ringleader,

Dooley was 8-10-2 in post season play with no post-season appearances in three or four seasons. Do you think any contemporary coach could go 5-5 two seasons in a row? How about lose to half or more of your big rivals two or three years in a row? I was too young to remember, but apparently Doley just couldn't beat FSU back when FSU lost to everyone. I watched Vandy tie the dawgs in '85, and I watched Dooley's ego blow the UF game in 84 when he kept going for it in fourth down instead of letting Butler get sure 3s. Dooley was a legendary coach. Don't get me wrong. But, he wasn't perfect every season either.

I am tired of hearing people say that Richt always recruits top 10 classes but he can't coach them. Well top 10 classes produce top 10 rankings and I believe UGA has had quite a few of those under CMR.

I don't think Richt is on the hot seat, or headed for the hot seat anytime soon. I personally hold him in high regards. But there are trouble signs that shouldn't be ignored going forward - since '05, there have been strange meltdowns against good teams. I don't mean the breaks just going against us, but inexplicable implosions where the offense, defense or both seem to simply not have shown up. Georgia falling behind by scores like 28-0 or 35-0, or having second half meltdowns, is hard to explain. The defensive performance against Tennessee in '06, the entire team's performance at Tennessee in '07, the 4th and 10 meltdown against Auburn in '05, the entire team not showing up for the first half against West. Va., Florida in '08 (entire team seemed to quit after a little adversity), the baffling defensive performance against Tech in '08, etc. The terrible first-half performance against Va. Tech in the '06 Peach Bowl. Nice comeback, but that's not how those usually turn out. Let's be honest - take away Marcus Howard's career performance against UF in the '07 game, and Georgia's defense looked pretty helpless. Florida made a ton of mistakes and still scored 30. I was thrilled by the win, but not in denial about what I saw. We won because Florida couldn't stop us either, and we made less mistakes, period.

I sound like a broken record, but I wonder if Van Gorder took a lot of the team's edge and toughness with him when he left for Ga. Southern. The gritty, finish-the-drill mentality of '01-'04 seems to have been replaced by a team that either overwhelms its opponents with superior talent, or folds like a cheap suit after getting punched in the mouth a few times.

I think Richt needs to address these issues with the appropriate staff changes. Just like Spurrier needed Bob Stoops in the 90s to toughen up his Florida team, Richt needs a top coordinator to toughen up the defense. If Richt finds one, I believe he will continue to be an elite, top echelon head coach for many years to come. If not...he might go the way of Phil Fulmer one day, who seemed to gradually regress over time.

Continued loses to UF and especially GT will make Richt's seat hotter but it's not going to be critical for a couple of years.
