Buck Belue had Mark Richt on his 680 the Fan radio show Wednesday and reports in his blog that the coach feels “the line of scrimmage is looking like the strength of this 2009 team, if the D-End guys can come through.” At defensive end, Belue says Richt “feels good about Rod Battle’s chances of stepping up and playing some impact football. [DeMarcus] Dobbs and [Kiante] Tripp are talented dudes who can run and make athletic plays. And Richt believes that Montez Robinson is a freshman that has a chance to make an impact in year one.” Offensively, Belue says Richt “thinks the improved play on the O-Line will make life easier at QB & RB.” …
Elsewhere, while Georgia’s nonconference schedule has been called the toughest in the nation, ESPN.com’s Bruce Feldman offers his list of this year’s softest nonconference schedules. Included are three SEC teams: Ole Miss (playing Memphis, Southeastern Louisiana, UAB and Northern Arizona), Kentucky (Miami of Ohio, Louisville, Louisiana-Monroe and Eastern Kentucky) and Arkansas (Missouri State, Texas A&M, Eastern Michigan and Troy). …
Dads looking for a football-related outing with their kids might want to check out Saturday’s All Pro Dad Father & Kids Experience running from 9 a.m. to noon at the Woodruff Practice Fields in Athens. The event is connected with All Pro Dad, an organization started by former Colts coach Tony Dungy to stress the importance of being a good dad. Dungy is expanding the organization beyond the NFL to colleges, with UGA the first school to sponsor a program. Richt, a bunch of his players and Chick-fil-A founder Truett Cathy will be on hand for football-themed games and activities promoting father-child bonding. Registration costs $15 and admits one father and up to four children. The event is recommended for kids age 5 and older. Advance registration online is required.
And don’t forget to join our discussion on which September game is most worrisome to Dog fans this season.

Well let see buck talked about kicking tech as* all the time with richt they both joked about how GT is the biggest joke in college football and ESPN won’t even give them respect once in a while. Richt talked to Belue about putting 51 points on the bugs. Buck added owning them like underwear.

interesting that it took Richt 3 years to develop OL as a strength, which some should question that as long as he has been coaching offense and head dawg, OL should be a strength every year. Ask Stafford who played behind ours the past 3. What if Richt had recruited better the previous 7 or 8 years so Stafford had a more experienced line during his 1st and 2nd years.

Hey, Buck, there are NO “ifs” on the Gator team this year…only “what ifs”…like which one of the outstanding, 3-deep position players at any position might beat out the other two outstanding players. This is especially true on the defensive side of the ball. And I just love coming on this so called “Georgia blog” with Gator digs. So much fun!

Strength of team should be at DT as well with Owens, Atkins and quality depth. This should make life easier for the LB’s and DE’s. Hopefully within two seasons, the defensive staff will find and develop someone who can generate pressure off the end. If the D has miserable performances like they had against over half the schedule last year, what will be the excuse for Willie Martinez? Last year it was no DE’s stepping up. Good Grief, in a talent rich state with all the resources available, that should never be the case.

Tampa Gator, I agree with your opinion of your team. Florida looks great all around. I don’t need to take jabs at UF. Two National Titles in three seasons says enough for me. Wish I could say the same.
Tons of quality coming in as well with the freshman class.
Last year you lose your TE, and Hernandez comes in as a freshman and plays like an All American.
Your game at LSU will be a dandy to watch.

I guess I can understand UF people poking fun…but Tech people, come on. One out of eight, wow! Wish I had that. Think about it though, do you really want Paul Johnson to be that successful? If he wins the ACC, goes to bowl games that are not played on baseball fields and is competitive with UGA, do you actually think he will stay there?
George O’Leary lied on a resume to leave the flats for South Bend. Bobby Ross left North Avenue when he got the chance. Your loved one Bill Curry dumped you for Alabama. Then we will see the likes of Chan Gailey, Bill Lewis, Pepper Rodgers and Bill Fulcher.
Oh well, I guess it’s easier to act like a fool and be preoccupied with UGA than to actually be intelligent and improve oneself.

dawgtired, cMR has done a crummy job of recruiting offensive linemen ever since he got here….and that might explain a lot. how can you have 4 or 5 superprep qbs on your roster and only 4 or 5 offensive linemen. stacy serles and neil callaway did a magic act with what they have had to work with until this year.

Tech fans, you haven’t owned us since the fifties. Act like you have won against us in this century. Oh yeah, you haven’t. Show some class. Congratulations on having a good coach. I am glad we will now have some real competition. When you get to more than one in a row, then you can claim you own us. Until then you are whistling past the graveyard. One of my best friends is a Tech fan, he doesn’t scream 45-42 every time we meet. Oh and he did not attend Tech either, much like many UGA fans. And he did buy his Tech shirt and hat at Wal-mart. Get over your hatred, you make the Institute look small.

Hey TampaGator…PLEASE DON’T JINX US!!! Let’s try walking softly and carrying a big bite!!! With possible injuries or the fickle finger of player off the field behavior(there, I said it!) lets not tempt fate! A little humility this season will carry our team a long long way, perhaps to an undefeated season and right back to the promised land. But it ain’t gonna be easy!

Actually, if Cox playes well at the beginning of the year and the team avoids devestating injuries like last year, then Georgia is going to have an excellent team this year. Like him or not, Richt is a great coach. So is Martinez, although I know you Georgia fans hate him with passion. Injuries and youth had a lot to do with last year. Martinez was a fairly good coach the previous year. I think most major colleges would love to have Martinez as their DC. Charlie Strong is a great DC at Florida, but even he caught a lot grief the year in between the 2 national championship years. Martinez is a lot like Strong. Both a good at strategy and coaching up players, but neither are great recruiters. If you don’t want Martinez, send him to Gainesville to be the co-DC with Strong. The Gators would love to have him assist with their great defensive players.

athensdawg, you are wrong about the oline, we were short on ol the 2nd and 3rd years because of former coach b/4, and the ones they brought in since either left for different reasons, injury etc, they beat the hell outa each other in practice, alot of injuries occur, its taken till this day to rebuild, do more reseach

Can’t wait til the season so all this hogwash will stop. I really like to see the teams solve it on the field, but I hope the Gators don’t have the attitude that Tampa Gator has, becuase it is a long hard ride when you read your own clippings, not the Sugar Bowl and the Tide.
UGA will be good and might be great, the Gators will be great and might be good. Tech will be Tech. Who cares
