A couple of quick hits before everyone hits the road for home …
UGA kicking great Rex Robinson has moved and revamped his blog, changing the name from Dawg-Leg Write to Roughing the Kicker. He has a great story about how despite being on the sideline he missed the end of Lindsay Scott’s famous touchdown play against the Gators in 1980:
“As the play began, I could see the ball in the air, Lindsay caught it and turned up field. …I thought, ‘He’s going to get in field goal range, I have to get my tee!’ So as I turned to go get it, everyone else was jumping up and down cheering, but I had my back turned and missed it.”
ESPN.com’s Chris Low writes about his fantasy nonconference regular-season matchups for SEC teams. He’d like to see Georgia playing Ohio State again:
“These two ultra-successful, football-crazy schools were born to play each other. Yet, they’ve only met one time. The Bulldogs prevailed 21-14 in the 1993 Citrus Bowl. Granted, when Ohio State has seen an SEC team coming lately, it hasn’t been pretty.”
I’d enjoy that matchup. Or Michigan. Or, especially, Texas.
But as Mark Richt would remind: Just so we don’t get another BCS school besides Tech in the same season.
Who’s your fantasy nonconference regular-season opponent for the Dogs?

USC
I think OSU has been one of the most over-rated, over-hyped teams in history. At least the last several years.

Pretty much any school which gets far too much credit in the national press. Notre Dame, Michigan, Ohio State come to mind.

USC would be fun to see, but if it’s an away game that stadium stinks. I like OU, Texas, OSU, and Michigan. I think Miami would have been a good game a few years ago. Pretty much everyone else in all the remaining conferences are average or we play them (Clemson, Tech). Oregon’s stadium is supposed to be a great venue too.

I don’t want to see USC unless it is a BCS title game. USC has not gained favor in the rankings since falling to Texas and I see no reason to give them the chance. USC has scheduled creampuffs thru 2013 anyways.
The next USC open date is 2014 and who is to say UGA (or any other SEC team) isn’t in a rebuilding year by that time. The pollsters are not rewarding their easy schedule as they should.
I would love to see Michigan or Texas. Texas in the New Orleans Superdome for the Chik Fil A kick off would be great more money, take some LSU/Texas recruits, and as an added bonus VT or Clemson and Bama aren’t getting more exposure with Georgia recruits.

I would love to see a matchup with Nebraska…. Lincoln is a great college atmosphere that is reminiscent to me of Athens. (After all, Lincoln becomes the biggest city in the state on game day). Other revenge matchups I would like to see would included Marino-less Pittsburgh, Penn State, (would agree on a cotton bowl rematch with Texas), and I would love to see some service academy matchups. Down south we really love the military and I think the fan base would actually love having the cadets of West Point down south. I think that would be a rocking atmoshere… you would have a great draw of fans from Ft Jackson, Benning, Gordon, and Stewart… how cool would that be?

Any games against some traditional football powers would be great:
Notre Dame, Penn State, Ohio State, Michigan, Oklahoma, Texas, Miami, Florida State, USC and Nebraska
I also like the idea of the “revenge” games against Boston College and West Virginia too!

I look at it from a stadium standpoint. I love going to see other school’s stadiums, and I have been to (non-SEC) OSU, Washington, UCLA, Duke(he he he…most highschool football stadiums are bigger!), TCU, SMU, Arizona State and Michigan’s, will hit Wisconsin in July, and hope to hit Oklahoma State this year. I would love to see a game in Notre Dame, Michigan, OSU, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Texas, etc. Just to experience them, not as much as the matchup.
If it were just matchup, I’d rather have many of those teams on nuetral sites.

I would like to see a game with UNC, Miami, ECU, VT, USF, BC or WV on the east coast, so traveling wouldn’t be such a concern. But I would go with a Michigan, Notre Dame, Texas, Cal, Washington, OSU or go get the Zooker in Illinois so we get some revenge.

USC’s stadium stinks?? It’s the rose bowl! It’s gorgous over there. Now their campus is kinda shady. They are in the middle of a not-so-great part of LA. But the Rose Bowl is up in Passadena(sp?) and it’s one of the prettiest stadiums in the country.

RxDawgf, USC plays in the LA Coliseum, not the Rose Bowl. UCLA plays home games at the Rose Bowl and I would love to see the Red & Black on that field!
