Who would you add to UGA football broadcasts?

Damon Evans told the UGA athletics board last month that the football radio broadcast team for the coming season should be finalized soon. It’s expected that the post-Munson pairing of Scott Howard and Eric Zeier will remain in place doing play-by-play and color, but some tweaking of the overall package (including pregame and postgame) seems likely.

Who should be sideline reporter on UGA football broadcasts?

The most obvious move would be to let Loran Smith concentrate on “Tailgate Show” interviews and, what the heck, let him continue to do the postgame locker-room interviews, too, but replace him as sideline reporter. While “Loranwhadyagot?” is a beloved bit of Munsonia, Smith’s reports never have been one of the broadcast’s strong suits.

So who would be a good choice for that job? Someone with playing experience, preferably.

Buck Belue comes to mind, though he’d only be available if, as he hinted a few months ago, CSS loses the rights to the tape-delayed rebroadcasts of the games.

I think Matt Stinchcomb, who’s shown in his fill-in work on WSB’s post-game show that he’s smart and articulate, would be an excellent choice.

Kelin Johnson has done some coverage work with the GXtra Webcasts and might be another ex-Dog in the running.

And then there’s the ever-popular David Pollack, who’s worked on CSTV’s weekly pregame show.

So that’s our Question of the Day: Who would you like to hear reporting from the sidelines during UGA games?  If you don’t want to comment, feel free to vote in the poll.

Who cares! UGA football no longer matters, they are irrelevant

Pollack or Belue would be excellent, Polack would bring more fire and excitement from the sideline but Buck would probably be the more cooler head and be better suited to bring concise, accurate updates. Tough pick!

How about we respect Loran Smith and let him do it as long as he wants? He does a fine job, and the tone of your article exudes disrespect. The guy has given his life to UGA. Isn’t that worth anything?

Nachos- the fact that you are here on a UGA blog talking about potential sideline comentators proves our relevance. If we weren’t you and the other dawg-haters wouldn’t spend so much time on UGA blogs talking about how “irrelevant” we are.
Get a life and go support your team on it’s blog…if your team even has one!

I pick Dorsey Hill. He knows everything about Georgia football.. Who should play at what position and which tailgate party has the best pre-game spread. I sit in wonder at the feet of the master.

You could, among other things, memorialize Lewis Grizzard by turning the mic over to none other than Andre “Pulpwood” Smith.

No one is dis-respecting Loran. The fact is…he is slipping tremendously. He forgets players names & calls them by the wrong name on a regular basis. It is getting embarrassing. This is not the same as Dooley…he was performing as one of the best AD’s in the country when Adams ran him off. We all love Loran & therefore need to honor him now & have him step aside. You can’t let him do it as long as he wants to…that would be very sad.

Scott Howard is a very nice man, but he should not be doing PbP. Erik is perfect as color. Loran Smith needs to find his favorite fishing hole and spend the fall there.
Go Dawgs.

I guess I still miss Munson, and I’m an Alabama fan!! He was just the best ever. With that said, I just don’t care for Howard – he is great just talking about sports, but I don’t think he is your man for the long run. What about Fran Tarkenton?

We could get RAMBLE ON! to do it but once he said “fleabags break the huddle”, it would be all over. Of course, Tech could get me to be the sideline reporter and my famous oft repeated line would be “Wow Scott, I’ve never seen this many nerds in one place where there wasn’t a computer or video game involved.”

Dantzler is a drunk pervert who’s had plenty of chances, he doesn’t need to be on ANY more UGA official broadcast! Maybe if he stays on the REF & keeps clean for a few years then they could consider adding him back too basketball & baseball. For football we should go with a 3 man both by adding Stinchcomb then put Kelin Johnson on the sidelines.

I am sorry, but it is hard to get a way from perfection. With Munson, we had that. I am sure Scott Howard is a terrific person, but his “excited voice” at times is fake sounding to me. It is as though it is exagerrated in order to equate what Munson would do naturally. I am not sure I will be able to enjoy the broadcasts unless we had a known, pro behind the mike.
Somone mentioned Wes Durham. He is good, and very professional having years of experience behind him. Someone on this order would be great. In fact, I thought that the present set-up was going to be temporary until a “name” could be found.
There has got to be someone, somewhere, just like Munson was when we found him. As for the color guy, I have no problem with Zeier, and either Kelin or Matt would be great on the sideline. I think Matt has a future in announcing, so maybe we could groom him to be Munson if he was interested.
