In case you missed it, Matthew Stafford was on NBC’s “Late Night With Jimmy Fallon” Thursday night. Unfortunately, this led to me having to sit through possibly the unfunniest monologue in late-night talk show memory.
But anyway, Stafford did well in his appearance. Asked if it’s true Detroit is going to pick him first in next week’s NFL draft, he demurred, “I don’t know. We’ll see. Hopefully. That’d be nice.” As for the prospect of signing for more than $30 million, Stafford said, “That’d be a nice little pay day.”
The segment ended with Stafford playing “football skeet” with Fallon, who threw plates in the air and had Stafford throw footballs at them. He smashed the plate three out of four times.
Maybe come Christmas he can go on a much better talk show and join Dave Letterman and Jay Thomas in throwing footballs at the meatball on top of the “Late Show” tree on CBS.

I agree. Who let Jimmy Fallon on the air ? He is not even remotely funny. He also asked Stafford basicly the same question over and over again. “This is really cool.(yeah, I’m excited). I mean wow. (yep)” Also, Stafford was on the air a total of about 3 minutes so it was an enormous waste of time other than watching him smash plates.

Sure he can knock down a plate. Let’s see what he can do at my dove shoot.

Thought he did a great job on the show. He was pretty impressive breaking the plates and that’s about the same velocity he used for short passes.
A little disappointed he nor Fallon had 5 seconds to acknowledge he played college at UGA under CMR. Think it would have helped us and would have been the right thing to do. He even got in a plug for USC with Mark Sanchez, but not for UGA.
Wish him the best and hope he makes a ton of money.

The plates must have been running a slant pattern and not anything deep!
My bad, just too hard to resist. Best of luck Stafford and thanks for your time as a Dawg!

I don’t know about throwing a football, but I have a benelli and a case of shells. All I need is an invitation, Cuz.
You’re right Bill. That show was the biggest waste of time I’ve stayed up for in a while.

Hunk, it is always the opening Saturday. Most time it coincides with the opening game. You are more than welcome but you might want to bring a radio if the game is on during the afternoon.

I’ve still got your e-mail addy, I’ll touch base with you when it gets closer. I’m always in a field somewhere listening to the game with ear buds on opening day. Last year was down in Swainsboro/Vidalia area. Got my limit and one of my boys’ for him. It was cold beer and jalapeno dove for supper. yum yum

Tommy, he actually did say that Stafford was from the University of Georgia at the beginning before he came out, but no mention of Richt.

Are you kidding? Fallon is the funnest guy in late night. His humor is not for old geezers.

Apparently Fallon’s studio audience last night must have been made up mostly of old geezers. Most of his jokes drew a handful of laughs in a sea of silence.

Fallon said during his monologue that it was worse than working out. Thank God I’m an old geezer, I’d hate to know my brain was so fried that I thought he was the “funnest” guy in late night. I’d rather watch 10 Sponge Bob Squarepants episodes with my 10 yr old than 20 more minutes of that. Maybe he just had a bad night ’cause if that is a good example of his show he won’t last a year.

(1) MS definitely well-spoken in interview. Way to represent! (2) I didn’t catch Fallon’s reference to UGA either. (3) I love JF on SNL and in movies, but that show was more than painful. I kept waiting for the laughter soundtrack to come on. I wouldn’t be surprised if Stafford is the answer to the trivia question, “who was the last guest to appear on Jimmy Fallon’s short-lived late night talk show…”

I don’t care what he does the rest of his life. He left us too early and he is really SCREWING UP by signing with the Lions and I just wanna focus on Joe Cox. Sorry if I’m a selfish UGA fan!!

Sorry about the old geezer remark. Just watched Thursday’s Fallon. Not funny. Watch some of his other episodes. Usually much funnier.

No problem here SoCal… It was funny to me, and ironic, because I was watching a show on pbs called the “pioneers of TV”. They had features on Jonathan Winters, Tim Conway, Sid Caesar, etc. You have to be an old geezer to remember them, but they were true masters when it comes to comedy. Nobody was funnier than J. Winters at ad lib comedy.

Where are you in SoCal? I was all over the place in the military out there. LeMoore, Pt Mugu, China Lake, Coronado (Silver Strand- UDT Team 3), San Diego, Port Huenemi, 29 palms, etc. I would love to go back out and bike down the PCH one more time before I die… I’ll bet its changed dramatically. Pt Mugu was my absolute favorite place. What a beautiful base; private, pristene beach. I used to let some of the surfer boys from Zuma come on the base just so they could surf some waves that few civilians ever get to. Never could get over how the tar comes up on the beach. Not to mention my first grunion run… Haha

I’ve got one in McBean where Hwy 56 and 56 spur meet (behind where they’re digging out the hillside for fill dirt).
The feild I’m excited about is in a secret location VERY close to downtown. If all works out as planned it should be a killer, as that area is sick with birds, ducks, deer, rabbits, etc. etc.

Maybe we can get together to watch an away game and you can tell me of your days playing college golf with Ty Webb. That infamous night putting of yours, classic. Is that secret location a double-secret location and is Dean Wormer invited?

Hunk Erdown. I live in the west end of the San Fernando Valley about 10 miles east of Malibu. It is so beautiful here but I can’t wait to get back to the south. I’ve lived here for 8 years but hopefully I’m moving back to Augusta this fall. By the way I’m good friends with one of the Sponge Bob writers and illustrators. We go to the same church.
