According to various websites that I looked through while doing research for this final week of investments — not counting those that kept asking for a credit card number, age verification and automatically opened 27 new windows (Close! Close! Dang it, close!) while my wife screamed down to the basement, “Are you still looking at point spreads!?” — I came across some interesting statistics.
The chances of winning Wednesday night’s $579 million Powerball drawing were approximately 1 in 176 million. That was still far more likely than the odds of having a meteor land on my house: 1 in 182,138,880,000,000. Or about double that for the same meteor landing on the ACC championship game and hitting somebody.

Is that a meteor falling on me, or Dogs going to BCS?
Other odds I came across: 1 in 3 million chance of spotting a UFO; 1 in 11,500 of bowling 300 in a game; 1 in 649,740 of being dealt a royal flush; 1 in 20 million of being canonized; about even-money that one of those Christmas bell-ringers in front of Kroger will spot Bobby Petrino and punch him in the face, and 99 out of 100 that the aforementioned bell-ringer will be canonized.
Which leads me to Saturday’s SEC championship game between Alabama and Georgia. The odds are against Georgia winning. I know this because I keep hearing analysts break down the Alabama-Notre Dame game like Georgia is a hologram.

Lord Saban, via Tigersx.com. (Not my art work, honest.)
Yes, Alabama is good. The Tide have won two of the past three national titles. People are scared when they just look at a picture of Nick Saban, although in fairness you can’t tell from the picture that he’s only 4-foot-2.
Here’s what I see: Georgia’s defense is playing really well. Aaron Murray is throwing to the correct receivers (also the correct team). Todd Gurley — freshman going on Athens mayor. The Bulldogs were smacked at South Carolina, but Alabama lost at home to Texas A&M. The Aggies scored touchdowns on their first three possessions with that crazy no-huddle thing that Saban fears will doom civilization.
Georgia has a shot. A good shot. In fact — wait, did somebody just see a meteor? — I’m going upset. Take the 7½ points, but Dogs win the SEC and move on to the BCS.

OK, I'll take some dish soap, paper plates, ACC tickets ...
ACC: Georgia Tech vs. FSU: John Swofford dreamed the other night that he was eaten by 12,000 tarantulas. Unfortunately, he woke up to the real nightmare of his deteriorating conference title game: Tech is coming off a loss to Georgia. FSU is coming off a loss to Florida. Tech (6-6) is only because Miami and North Carolina are in NCAA timeout. Need a ticket? It’s $4. A section? Still $4. Seminoles win but take Tech and 14.
Pac-12: UCLA: vs. Stanford: Jim Mora denies he intentionally lost last week’s game to Stanford to avoid a match-up with Oregon. I believe him. Only brilliant coaches could pull off something that devious. Same story in the rematch: Cardinal covers 9.
Big Ten: Nebraska vs. Wisconsin: Wisconsin is the Big Ten’s highest ranking ethical team in the Leaders Division at 4-4 and therefore is a conference finalist. So I guess the term “Leaders” is all relative to the Big Ten, huh? Huskers covers 2½.
What the ACC needs is a good promotion
* * * Internet-Only Special * * *
Saints at Falcons: The Saints are 5-6. If the playoffs opened today, they’d be in the Poinsettia bowl. This also will be Jonathan Vilma’s last game before the NFL bounty hearings, so if y’all could bring some cookies or maybe write a nice card for him to read during incarceration, that would be nice. Meanwhile, the Falcons are pretty banged up. But at 10-1, pain is all relative. Falcons cover 3½.
NFL Fridge Pack

The NFL's new simplified training regimen.
Seahawks at Bears: Forget Adderall suspensions. Chicago’s Brandon Marshall claims some players are seeking an edge with Viagra. Funny. I never looked at preseason games as foreplay before. Chicago covers 3½.
Texans at Titans: And then there’s the anti-Viagra: Ndamukong Suh’s foot somehow ended up in Matt Schaub’s groin. The good news: If Houston goes to the Super Bowl, Schaub can sing the national anthem. Houston wins but give me Tennessee and 6.
49ers at Rams: There are two sides to the debate on whether Jim Harbaugh should have benched Alex Smith. One side: It’s only Alex Smith. The other side: well, actually, there is no other side. Niners cover 7.
Panthers at Chiefs: If the Panthers (3-8) lose, it would make the home stretch stumble for the No. 1 pick interesting. Probably explains why the Chiefs (1-10) announced plans to wear Crocs. Carolina covers 3.
Eagles at Cowboys: Online headline: “Andy Reid to coach this week.” That would be a season first. Dallas covers 10.
The Eagles are dead. Like the parrot

TIME TO SETTLE UP
“If you ain’t just a little scared when you enter a casino, you are either very rich or you haven’t studied the games enough.” — VP Pappy
Last week: 10-1 straight up, 7-3-1 against the line.
Bottom dollars: 110-35 straight up, 85-58-2 against the line.
“Sack Schultz” update: This is it — the winner of the $5,000 Hawaii trip will be awarded this week. Our leader is “Wildone” of Kansas at 146 wins but 10 others are within five picks. I am not one of those 10.
Lilly Pick of the Week: Lilly (8-4) is on a five-game winning streak since her one-week furlough. This week, it was a choice between cheese-accessorized pictures of Uga and Nick Saban. Didn’t even look at Saban. Straight to Uga. Arf.
True story: Lilly swooped in on Uga's cheese so fast, I couldn't picture in time.

Georgia can actually tie Alabama in SEC Championship Game wins by winning day after tomorrow. I’ll be there.
Mark Richt has 2 wins and Alabama has 3 wins all-time.
So, what is this crudola that Alabama owns the Georgia Dome and is their 2nd home BS ?

OK, just watched the Saban presser from yesterday on the Birmingham News Web site. He talked mostly about the decision to take off the redshirt off the Chris Black WR due to injuries. ( He also mentioned Malcom Mitchell as someone they are worried about as a game changer)Here’s my nightmare question for Dawg fans. Say Murray goes down ( Bad) first quarter or so…..Who goes in…..Parker Welch, LeMay…..or does Richt pull the redshirt off Mason??????????????

Auburn and UGA are a lot alike. The biggest difference I see year in and year out is that the obnoxious factor is much greater among UGA fans. That fact being said, they’re still not as bad as the UAT bunch. Since a 3-3 tie is extremely unlikely, I hope UGA beats the sht out of the Sabanists.

Or was that peeing on your parade. Who cares. Yellow jastards and snarky coach with Jim Thorpe offense come home empty handed once again and have the class of a south Georgia roller rink to beg for an exemption to be allowed to play in my dog’s water bowl against Kent State. Hope the national guard doesn’t show up and start taking pop shots hoping to put this game out of its collective memory a la 1968. Dawgs can win this game, and I really believe that. For those that follow the blogs, old dog predicted the South Carolina loss. Tech, on the other hand, just flat does not have the defense. They have no talent to speak of on the d-side, so there is nothing to “coach-up!” F.State is not happy after last week, and My Tech buddies ( although I pull for ya’ll except against us) ya’ll have as much business in a conference championship game as Warren Beatty and Madonna do leading a march for celibacy down Hollywood Blvd. That is not biased or rude. Supersize and others will tell you I am fair. I would not want US getting into the SEC Championship game under similar circustances. Ya’ll need to go out and recruit some D-1 d-players and start over. I truly wish ya’ll better luck next year.

This game will be an absolute hard hitting bloodbath. Both teams know each other well, run similar schemes on both sides of the ball and meet each other in recruiting all the time.
I’m wondering if Saban wishes our starting LB Jordan Jenkins and our starting WR Malcolm Mitchell were on his team? Especially Mitchell who is better than anything Bama has.
Jarvis Jones and company will win this game for the Dawgs 27-24. Murray throws for 2 TD and Gurley runs for 1 and the inbred trailer dwelling sister humping Bammer fanbase go back to Walmart and return their beat Notre Dame shirts for lotto tickets and beer

When you watch us play Tech and your only concern is hoping somebody does not get hurt before the REAL game, the rivalry is gone. Under CPJ, whether you are for or against his system, the recruiting has gone South as quickly as is imaginable! That is undoubtedly the worst defense in organized athletics! Petros Papadakis, former Captain of the worst Southern California team in the history of college football, now of Fox Sports says Alabama wins because Alabama has played big games before. The Land of Fruit and Nuts knows nothing about college football, and frankly does not care. Petros Papadakis would like to see Aaron Murray go up against Notre Dame, but says we get to see Nick Saban for the next 6 weeks, instead. Petros Papadakis says he would love to see that great Notre Dame defense against a team like Georgia. This is all we hear, yet again today 83 percent of the money on the game is on Georgia.
From my perspective, Alabama cannot score with that offense they have on our Defense and Aaron Murray and Todd Gurley can.
The media buzz is all over Alabama Notre Dame.
Excuse me, there is a game to be won on the field 1st.
Alphare, you say the same comment every single week. We’re 11-1 and # 3 in the nation, and more of the same. How meaningful is it, when you have the same to say every time ?
For 1 I was glad everyone was all over UGA before Florida.
I am likewise glad the same is happening with the game the day after tomorrow. LSU Alabama might have been the game of the Century, but for UGA fans this is an opportunity Alabama has had 19 previous times as the victor and we haven’t had for over 3 Decades.
You get 1 go-round in life. I. It is whether you GATA when you do, or not, that enables us to look back and say, we did as well as we could.
With 83 percent of the money on The Georgia Bulldogs, I remain surprised only I noticed that.
Isn’t it great all these fans of other teams, FSU with their 23 BAD LOSSES after Mark Richt quit that gig for this one, Ohio State 0 for 11 in bowl games vs The SEC, Southern California after they lost their 5th game this season already, Alabama who has been to SEC CG 7 times and won 3 times, Georgie tek after they lost 42-10, whatever that division III team is and their 1 fan anywhere South of Wisconsin, Auburn fans there are 2 of those in here now after they lost 49 to nothing last week with Gene Chizik working at WallMart, South Carolina fans acting so big when they’ve got an empty trophy case all-time, vols fans chiming in about who they’re going to hire next like the vols beat any top teams – well, they did beat NC State by 2 TD who beat FSU before Florida pasted them 37-20 until the final clock ticked off.
All these disgruntled fans with their own teams’ performance LAST WEEK, in here whining how badly UGA is going to do against an Alabama team who with 38 of the 63 games to-date between us home games for Alabama faces us at the Georgia Dome where Alabama claims to be THEIR BUILDING with 3 SEC Championship Game wins in 7 previous appearances, while they have beat us only 36 times and of course Mark Richt has 4 appearances with 2 wins SEC CG to-date.
Mark Richt brings clearly his best offense, best Quarterback, best Running Back, maybe his best Wide Receiver duo in Malcolm Mitchell and Chris Conley both future NFL Draft picks in their own rights, and a defense loaded with maybe 11 NFL Draft Picks after this season, all of whom have started for Mark Richt. And, Alabama fans say they score 38 points on us.
____________
I don’t think so.
____________
But, what do I know ? Well, I know I am enjoying all these fans of all these teams all who lost last week, in here telling us how bad we are. I’ve watched us all my life. I have strong recollections of every game every year for 55 years. Is this our best team ? All around, yeah, probably is. 1-year window as I pointed out pre-season. But, we’ll still be here 2013 too, with an intact offense and a defense I hope to boost in recruiting commitments with our showing the day after tomorrow.
And, it is Mark Richt’s recruiting I love most.
It gives me something not to boast about, but to point out the facts on that he is the # 1 recruiter in the nation in the Mark Richt era starting 2001. It’s fun having all this talent that even an Alabama and a Notre Dame know they don’t match-up at QB, TB, WR, or Defense.
Yeah, there are better coaches.
There always have been. That’s not his claim to fame.
He’s a recruiter of talent, and after he hits 83 NFL Draft Picks starting 2001 after this season, he will be recognized for that. The kids know it already.
