Bacarri Rambo (18) stripped David Sims' of ball, set up touchdown. (Johnny Crawford/AJC)
ATHENS — I’ll be back with my column off of Georgia’s win over Georgia Tech shortly. Until then, here are my three “short takes” on the Bulldogs’ performance.
1. Bacarri Rambo is in a groove: The Bulldogs’ senior free safety was suspended for the first four games of the season and struggled along with the rest of Georgia’s defense when he initially returned. But he has been playing his best football of the season in the past five games. He had an interception and a sack against Florida, an interception at Auburn, and owned the first half against Georgia Tech: two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and 49-yard return to set up the Dogs’ second touchdown and an interception of Vad Lee followed by a 27-yard return to set up Georgia’s fourth TD. It’s no coincidence the improvement of Georgia’s defense has paralleled that of Rambo.
Aaron Murray, Todd Gurley and Georgia's offense seemed to be signaling "touchdown" all game. (Curtis Compton/AJC)
2. Todd Gurley looks like a vet: Last week Gurley became Georgia’s first freshman running back since Herschel Walker to rush for over 1,000 yards. With every game, he looks more comfortable and less like an 18-year-old. He had 10 carries for 88 yards and two touchdowns in the first half alone, running through holes created by Georgia’s line and powering over Jackets’ defenders. He finished with 12 carries for 97 yards before being pulled. Gurley and Keith Marshall have given the Dogs’ offense balance, which could be a key against Alabama. Marshall’s afternoon: seven carries for 66 yards and two scores.
3. Aaron Murray: Look at me now: The Georgia quarterback was hammered by critics after throwing three interceptions in the first quarter against Florida, when it looked as though he would fizzle in a big game. But since the fourth quarter that day, when he threw a game-winning touchdown pass to Malcolm Mitchell, Murray has 14 touchdown passes and zero interceptions in the last four-plus games (13 quarters). His efficiency and ability to avoid turnovers also could be key against Alabama.

It’s really sad that UGA alumni and fans have only their football team to take pride in. It’s even sadder that this pride depends on the performance of illiterate dummies who don’t even come close to meeting minimum academic requirements. 84% of UGA football players are what UGA calls “special admits,” which is just a euphemism for admitting bozos who can’t even read.
This sorry practice not only cheapens all UGA degrees (which are pretty worthless to begin with), but embarrasses the State of Georgia and its citizens. And Mark Richt is the one behind the atrocities at UGA.
So enjoy your victories, and be kind to your former players when you see them working menial jobs in custodial or sanitation services. Or pushing a shopping cart around, looking for a warm place to sleep at night. That’s your UGA reality.

Jeff, Surely the quality of the opponents(or lack thereof) has been a factor in Georgia performance last few weeks. They still need to prove it against quality opponents before I am sold. I do like their balance on offense.

The chop block on Thornton ruined the game for me. What is wrong with those refs? I thought they should have called a couple on UGA and absolutely should have called a couple on Tech. The center engaged Thornton and the left guard just took out his knee. All of the the hate talk before just puts a question in your mind. If Tech wants to train for the cut blocks, the refs have to call the chops strictly. I just hope they haven’t ended Thornton’s career.

Nothing to gain by playing these losers and everything to lose. We do them a favor by continuing to schedule this game and it as a miracle that Thorton was the only player hurt. You do realize that 10 of the 19 recruits in the most recent Georgia recruiting class were either offered by tech or Duke, right? I guess they would have been engineering students if they said “yes” to tech, but becuase they said “no” to tech’s scholarship offer they are are all bozos that can’t read.
You offered BOTH Marshall and Gurley scholarships to the “institute”. You may have noticed them playing for UGA today.
How can 84% be special admits when more than half got scholarship offers from duke or tech? Either tech and Duke are football factories that want all the special admits they can get or someone is playing fast and loose with the facts.

If you don’t think so can you please exlain the admission of such scholars as Reggie Ball, numerous BB players who came through who were one and dones. Tech’s problem is that 90% of the HS coaches in the state can scheme to stop their offense, its why it is disappearing for the Ga hs scene. Sure a few still run it, but those few who do would win running anything else. CPJ isn’t the genius he gives himself credit for being. But of course we all know, “he had bigger fish to fry” right?

I certainly enjoyed the game.
It’s a shame that some Tech fans are such poor losers. There are many ways to be gracious after your team loses.
I thought Tech looked a lot better on offense than the score would apparently indicate, and I wish the Jackets the best in their championship game, and in their bowl game.
Now, it’s on to our next championship game, as we continue our single elimination tournament. Our team sure is playing well. I think they have a decent shot at the SEC championship, and match up pretty well against Alabama.
I’d love to see a game now between Georgia Southern and Georgia Tech to determine which team is the best college option team in the state, and the second best college team. I think Georgia Southern might very well win that one, and that’s not taking anything away from Tech.
Tech is better than I thought they might be. On offense. On defense they could be playing in the PAC 12.

GA played very well. but it was, after all, a win over a slightly better than average ACC team. GA has every reason to feel proud and move into the SEC title game again Bama, against whom they have a very good shot at beating. As for GT, their need for much better recruiting has never been more evident.

I love our tandem of Gurshall’ but Bama’s Lacy and Yeldon might even be better….just being objective. The 3/4 often is susceptible to giving up big runs up the gut…and that guy Lacy is a mack truck with speed and moves to boot.
Georgia will have to play their best game yet to have a chance(which they do). Murray will have to play very well, Gurshall will need to keep Bama honest, and T King and company better have glue on their hands.
Hoping for a good game but whatever happens, I’m proud of my Dawgs…we could have folded after the Columbia debacle but we kept fighting. Back to back SEC East CHAMPS! Not too shabby!

Next week the lovefest for Alabama is going to be so strong it’ll almost make us sick as UGA fans. Gary Danielson and Verne Lundquist are going to be riding Alabama so hard they should come. Ok, ‘Dogs and ‘Dog fans–we can revel for a while and bask in the win. “A while” means for one night to clear the heads, relax, watch other games and stay out of freaking trouble. This team can play with a lot of other teams, and seems to be peaking at the right moment. Both sides of the ball are playing well. However, next week, you’ll need to play with more intensity for a full 60 minutes along with some lights out play against a very good, nationally ranked team. GO ‘DOGS!!!

Looking at Bama, I’d have to say their defense is no better than UGA. Both are big, fast, aggressive, GA may even have more athletes. The offenses are not all that different either, which means that breaks/penalties are likely to determine the winner. Should be a very good game. Nobody will underestimate Bama; no one should underestimate UGA.

I don’t make fun of your school, your students, your teams, etc. Just hope every year in football we can have some type of miracle. Rarely happens, but we still play the game.
Coach Johnson better get his head out of the sand and learn that recruiting, especially on defense, is highly important. The seat is getting hotter and after next week and what will most likely be another bowl loss – his days are numbered.

GT dad – believe me, I have seen bad behavior from Tech fans for years – they are generally not very good losers. In addition, I have a problem with the cheap shots that the Tech team takes late in the game when they are getting badly beat. The chop block in the 4th quarter against UGA backup Thorton could have ended his career. It was just bad and even the announcers commented on it. What gives?

He congratulated me on the win and immediately began to go on and on about how Bama was going to destroy the Dawgs next week. Haters gon hate, of course, but I’ve seen nothing from the Dawgs in the last few weeks that leads me to believe that they will not, at the very least, compete hard against the Tide. I’m nearly always more pessimistic than optimistic about the Dawgs before big games. Not this time. I feel pretty good about this SEC title tilt.

UGA isn’t the only team with an easy schedule (Alabama avoided the big three in the East) but Alabama is suppose to be this big bad team. Yeah give me a break? Who is their signature win against? This article is about the football game that happened today and my team got whooped. The best thing that can happen for Tech going forward is to lose out. Lose in the ACC championship game and lose their bowl. That way the new AD can get rid of CPJ and get a coach in here who can recruit well, can run an offense that can come from behind, and find someone that can put a defense on the field that doesn’t resemble swiss cheese.

I have been active in some form of sporting activity my entire life and taught PE/Health, play lifetime sports (golf, volleyball).
Sports serve a wonderfull diversion from the demands and routine of life and offer excitment that does not negatively influence our life when kept in perspective.
I like John Wooden’ philosophy of winning and that it is an opportunity to be my best, not just beat someone, demean someone or hate. No! Winning is merely the byproduct of earnest practice and play meant to train and produce character and skills to carry into “normal” life.
I am from the North where pro sports are king and rivalries are strong. It’ fun to root ones hometeam on against a villian. However, I am amazed at the vitriol and pure hatred that is generated by the UGA-Tech rivalry.
People do you not see this for what it is and keep it in proper perspective? OK, I realize that there is going to be good-natured ribbing, but the esclating sarcasm is not healthy or sane. IT’S A GAME, PEOPLE!

A few salient comments about UGA:
1. Four different SEC teams have won the last six BCS championships.
2. UGA was NOT one of those teams.
3. During that period, UGA did not even win an SEC championship.
4. Red panties and Damon Evans.
5. 84% of UGA football recruits would not be admitted to UGA based only on grades and SAT scores. These clowns are called “Special Admits.”
In other words, UGA has sunk into total irrelevancy both regionally and nationally.
So why is UGA still paying Mark Richt millions of dollars a year?

******* SPECIAL BULLETIN *******
Ringling Brothers has just announced that the famous circus has hired the entire UGA coaching staff. The assistant coaches will trade in their playbooks and whistles for clown costumes and painted faces. Mark Richt has been appointed as Head Clownmaster and will supervise all Ringling Brothers clowns.
Fred Ringling, owner of Ringling Brothers, gleefully announced that Richt was the most qualified clownmaster, having coached clowns at UGA for more than ten years. He then presented Richt and the assistants with their shiny new clown noses.
Richt acknowledged that the circus has been having difficulty hiring enough clowns in recent years, but his first act was to drop the requirement that clowns be able to read and write, and that it was okay if they had a rap sheet. “After all,” he said, “this policy worked well for me in Athens, where I was used to dealing with illiterates and thugs.”
Please join with us in wishing Mark Richt well in his new position.

Guys give GTbob some leeway. I don’t agree with his comments most of the time but he never said GT would beat Georgia and he has been as tough on GT as anyone.
As far as Bama yes Georgia can win but don’t know if they will win. Bama should and will be favored but if Georgia can put together a complete game and control the tempo with no turnovers then it has a great chance to win. Realistically speaking we will be playing the toughest team in the nation this Saturday and I firmly believe that who ever wins that game wins the NC. Go Dawgs
