Alabama doesn’t have any dynamic receivers outside of Amari Cooper #8 and Commings will shut him down. The only thing that worries me with Bama is their All-American O-line and their run game with Lacy and Yeldon. But they can be stopped. Jenkins and Geathers will push them back and stop them. In one case, UGA stomped Arkansas in the SEC title game and in another, we ripped a hole in an unbeaten Hawaii team… a game which was a media slap in the face to the Dawgs anyway.

With FSU loosing to UF, can we please finally put the Seminole sham to rest for good. They sealed their fate when they wimped out and joined the ACC. They are a second tier team that plays in an awful conference. What would going undefeated in the ACC prove, much less loosing to NC State?They may get 5 star recruits on paper, but what type of competitor would want to play in the ACC?As long as they are in the ACC they will not return to their glory days.

That’s not entirely true Jeff.

The 2007 team had the” take no prisoners swag” needed to run the table, they just got hosed.

Dawgs are in a good position, but from here on out they’re playing teams that will hit them back. The bottom line is that as of now, the Dawgs are a good team but not a great one. That Alabama team will hit us in the mouth and see how we respond. To beat a team like Bama, we have to go at them like how Buster Douglas went after Mike Tyson, no fear whatsoever. We can’t just go in there and expect Bama to lay down and give it to us. Opportunities mean nothing if we do nothing with it. If the Dawgs want this one, they’re going to have to kick it into another gear. Hard physical football for 60 min. Bama will test our courage and we better have an answer for it or it will be a LONG night!

I just saw the You Tube video of why the Georgia coaches could be heard cursing on TV when Mike Thornton was lying on the ground. It’s because a sorry Tech player took a cheap shot on him and it wasn’t called. When the ball was snapped Thornton turned to his left to pursue the play. The Tech left guard when after his legs with Thornton’s back was turned to him. The NCAA needs to start fining coaches when their players take dirty cheap shots like that.

The Bulldogs can play with any team The coaches just must not let Saban intimidate them. The Bulldogs must just continue to play smart aggressive ball. KEEP UP THE INTENSITY ALL NIGHT LONG. I believe in our players and our fans, at the Dome, at Home, and at the Bars, must bring it.
Bring in Meat Cleaver, and some of the vocal leaders, from 1980, into the locker room , for inspiration, before the game.
This is UGAs’ biggest game in around 30 years.

UGA is not better than A&M. For one thing, A&M has a QB that is about to win the Heisman. Go look on ESPN under Heisman watch. He’s got 38 TDs, what does your guy have? While you’re there, you may notice that they’re like up 35-0 on Missouri in the middle of the second quarter. They have a great team and the problem is we played two great teams in a row and lost to the second by 5. That’s a lot better than losing by 35. I mean 28. Really 35. They lost two games to UF and LSU by 3 and 5 points, and that first loss to UF was the freshman QBs first start.

They’re a heck of a lot better than Georgia, no questions asked. They just play in a hard division, Georgia doesn’t.

The SEC Championship game between the Georgia Bulldogs and Alabama Crimson Tide will see the winner go on to play for the BCS Championship Jan. 7.

This year, like last year’s conference title game, will have the same result for the Georgia Bulldogs; a soul-crushing loss to a more talented team from the SEC West division.

Last year’s game saw Georgia hang with the LSU Tigers for one half. However, in the second half, the Bulldogs couldn’t keep up with the more talented skill players on LSU’s roster, and they ended up giving up 35-unanswered points.

This year, against Alabama, the Bulldogs are outmatched in a number of categories.

For example, the Crimson Tide have the better rushing game averaging 209.4 yards to 192.5 and has allowed a lower average points per game against over Georgia,10.1 points per game to 17.7.

Going even further, Alabama has the better kicking game making 77.8 percent of its field goal attempts to Georgia’s next to last in the SEC conversion percentage of 66.7 percent.

If Georgia fans are expecting to get some cheap yards from Alabama penalties, then they better think again as the Crimson Tide were the least penalized team in the conference getting flagged only 79 times. In comparison, Georgia was penalized 153 times, good for second-most in the conference.

However, Georgia will be overwhelmed the most on defense.

Alabama has Georgia outmatched in almost every defensive category in 2012.

The Crimson Tide finished with more sacks 28-24, more pass deflections 44-34, intercepted more passes 14-9 and had more yards lost because of a sack 207-160.

Even in the return game, Alabama had an advantage over Georgia.

Alabama had a disadvantage in kickoff return yards since they returned nine fewer kicks, but they averaged more yards per return than the Bulldogs, 25.5-22.4.

Last year, Georgia’s momentum was crushed after an LSU punt return in the third quarter. This could be a factor in the championship game as Alabama dominated Georgia in punt returns outgaining the Bulldogs 328-153.

Which area does Georgia have an advantage over Alabama?

If there’s one comforting aspect of the SEC Championship game it’s that Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray and Alabama quarterback A.J. McCarron are playing at an equal pace this year.

Murray and McCarron were first and second in quarterback rating in the SEC with a 174.3-172.4 rating while Murray had the advantage in touchdowns 28-21, yards 2,986-2,291 and yards per game 9.9-9.4.

But after that, McCarron threw less interceptions than Murray, 7-2, and had a higher completion percentage, 66.8-65.7 percent.

Alabama has the clear advantage over the 11-1 Bulldogs in the SEC championship game. The Crimson Tide should be able to roll past them and into its second-straight BCS Title game.

Also, the defense us completely different since Shawn Williams called them out and all the suspended players got their game speed back. How many points did LSU give up to Ole Miss? How many did Bama score on LSU? Funny thing about statistics is they can be manipulated by any side to prove your point. That’s why games are played on the field. I can pull some more statistics out that shows how UGA has the advantage over Bama, just as someone could do to prove the opposite. That’s why games aren’t played on paper or decided by stats. UGA can absolutely play with BAMA and beat them. It’s a good matchup but the Dawgs have to come out on fire and play a complete game and control both sides of the ball. No mistakes and no penalties. Murray has to be surgical in passing without any brainfarts and bad decisions. As been proven, the Tide is not invicible. I’ve regurgitated my share of Kool-Aid at season’s end, over the years but this time it seems diiferent. There is too much at stake for personal pride with this team and I think that once the reality of the scenario sets in, this team will make it happen.

Also, as I’m watching the ND vs. USC game, and I’ve seen them play several times this year, they definately are not the best team in the country. The Dawgs, the Tide or even the swamp lizards can expose them as the pretenders that they are.

All you Georgia and Bama fans need to relax. USC is not going to beat Notre Dame……so you have nothing to be concerned about having to play Florida again. Although Florida would beat Notre Dame easily. So will the winner of the Georgia vs. Bama game. Florida dominated both lines of scrimages today…..typical of a SEC team vs. the ACC.

And…..I am back from today’s game……and am just wondering where Dawgnole and Noley Noley Noley are right now……both said this week FSU would walk all over Florida. What a Doak!!!

A lot of NFL QBs came from crappy teams. Few come from large programs. It’s just the way it is. You’re own Matt Ryan was from Boston College, not a SEC, PAC ##, Big ## team. Smaller college teams produce better NFL QBs.

But you can’t talk out both sides of your mouth here. You can’t say UGA greatest team ever and say just because Murray is 1-10 in big games don’t mean nothing. Bama is NOT a creature we can’t beat. They are very beatable. Weak secondary and no edge pass rusher. Only one WR that you have to worry about and UGA has gotten very good at stopping the run. If you can stop the triple option 2 weeks in a row you can stop the runs between the tackles.

I think you can turn that and say that Georgia is a complete team like Bama has not seen all year. Georgia’s offense is better than LSU’s and LSU defense has a good front line but weak in the secondary and not as good at LB’s as UGA. A&M beat Bama with a running QB. Georgia’s offense is more of a balanced play action attack. Manziel may have score a lot of TD’s but Murray has thrown for 3,000 yards for the 3rd year in a row, is now tied with Manning for the most TD passes in SEC history, and is #1 in passing efficiency in college football. Good luck with that.

The Bear, you can also say that Georgia is geared to play against Bama. It should be an even match up, they run the same offenses and defenses so it’s not like both teams haven’t seen it in practice every day. One of the differences is that UGA is a better passing team against a Bama team that is weaker in the secondary than last year and has no edge pass rusher like UGA does. If Bama can’t put pressure on Murray then it will be a long night for Bama.

I hate the fact that Notre Dame does not have to play a Conference Championship to earn the right to go to the National Championship. Whether Georgia or Alabama wins the SEC Championship both will be favored over the #1 rated team in the BCS, which will be Notre Dame. Nobody see’s anything terribly wrong with that? They got there by beating a good team from every Conference EXCEPT the SEC.
The biggest problem will be the loser of the Georgia-Alabama game won’t even get to play in a BCS game because they will have two losses. The loser will end up in the Capital One or Outback Bowl.

If you compare Gurley and Marshall’s numbers to Lacy and Yeldon, the totals are almost identical. Carries, yards, TD’s etc. Defenses are comparable(since GA got their stuff together). Offensively, I would like to give the edge to Georgia, but its real close. I think the fact that Murray has been spreading the ball around to 7-10 different receivers per game is a challenge for the Alabama D. He is throwing to the open receivers, not locking on to one guy and predetermining the route he’s gonna throw too. Our Tight Ends have really emerged and can create a mismatch. our fullbacks have played well. i gotta feel we have the better receiving corps, despite 2 of our best guys out. i like the way our linebackers, corners and safeties cover and hit and take the ball away. I think this is gonna be a helluva football game. Georgia has come together as a TEAM this year. And we have a legitimate running attack and a fantastic defense(isnt that the formula?) That’s how Bama plays every year (except during all those years you sucked before Saban resurrected the program after Mike Shula and the others.. Lol). College football goes in cycles. It’s about emotion and momentum and seizing the opportunity.

I give Bama the slight edge on playing disciplined,(Georgia has improved this), experience from the last 2 years, and coaching. Saban is tough, and he will have them focused & ready to play

Obviously, we can’t both win, so good luck, and go Dawgs!

P.S. media darling Notre dame would be Vegas underdogs to the following teams:
1. Bama
2. Georgia
3. Florida
4. A&M (maybe playing the best football of anyone right now?)
5. LSU
6. South Carolina- (pick em?)

It reminds me of the time when (insert SEC team here) completely dominated the opponent (insert Ohio State twice, Oklahoma, Texas, Oregon).

I do worry about the refs in a Notre Dame game. But really, just looking forward to playing Bama and seeing my team play for a shot at another SEC Championship right now. Keep em focused on Bama coach, not BCS. We have 5 weeks to dream about the BCS if we manage to win our conference. against bama… It’s BCS National title game or something like the Peach Bowl. One game focus. It’s all or nada .

I can’t believe we let Tech out gain us by 80 yards and we had to punt twice as many times as Tech. This coaching staff will never lead us to a championship….and how come all of the top recruits in the state keep leaving? Blah, blah, blah. In the event that we do lose against Bama, please remember the Donnan and Goff years before calling for CMR’s head on a platter.

Anybody see that hit by Fairley against Tech? He was wearing Ogletree’s jersey and piledrove a guy.. The crowd loved it. Remember when Fairley beat UGA’s collective brains in.. Oh how the Ga faithful screamed to high heaven.. Like was said then, “If he was on your team, you’d love him!” UGA: living on hypocracy and preseason rankings since 1980 (for young fans who’ve never seen a NC, that was the last Ga team to meet their potential). I’ll be rooting for Ga next week but Bama’s defense will force you to egg and roll your QB’s house for the 2nd time this season. I couldn’t fathom egging my QB’s house in a season where my team controlled it’s own destiny to a long-awaited NC.. Shameful! Tech has a NC in the past 25 years, only one FBS school in GA can claim a NC in that period… and you consider yourself better than Tech.. if it helps you sleep at night. Wouldn’t want you to lose sleep and come in late to work forcing your Tech-grad boss to fire you.. You don’t, and won’t, understand but I’ll try: UGA fans care about beating Tech in football to mask their whoopings from Tech in life (not the board game.. but prob that too).

I’m a UGA fan and am hoping for two more wins this year. However, I am completely shocked by the confidence of some of the Dawg fans.

We’re talking about Richt/Bobo with Murray against two top 5 teams. Sure they can win and have every reason to believe that, but if I’m anything it’s definitely not confident the Georgia pulls this off. I can’t believe you wrote this Schultz.

Congrats to all the Dawg players on a big win that keeps them on course for the Big Prize they all came back to get.

The gap between Georgia and Georgia Tech widens each year–and that’s mainly because CPJ cannot recruit. The Gailey recruits that helped him beat Georgia that first season are long gone. Thankfully, so is Willie Martinez.

Bama is a fine football team. They are well-coached and highly disciplined. They make very few mistakes. The Dawgs match up with them talent-wise, but are not as deep. We’lll have to play our best game of the season to win the SEC title next week and earn our spot in the BCS title game. We will certainly not blow out Alabama. Honestly, I don’t know where those of you who are posting that are getting your irrational exuberance from.

That being said, I think the intangibles in the SECCG favor Georgia. We have a great group of seniors who are highly motivated and will play lights out. We have a talented defense that has played as well as any defense in the country over the past month, allowing only ~ 9 ppg during that span of five games. The team is hungry to wash the bitter taste of last year’s SEC title game out of their mouths. Whether this translates into on-the-field success remains to be seen.

Finally, whichever SEC team wins next Saturday will win the BCS title. That’s the one thing I am most certain of.

No. Aaron Murray must come back 2013. The offense has it going on. When Mark Richt signed these 2 freshmen running backs, they assured Mark Richt of great seasons the next 3 seasons : 2012, 2013, and 2014 when both can declare.

By then, with the # 5 recruiting class now and 5 more huge big-time gets coming quickly now for Mark Richt for 2013, we will have reloaded both sides of the ball. I see more players starters playing special teams. We already moved some of the pups ahead of others on defense now 2012, already while they are still here.

Our defense will not be devastated 2013 from losses 2012.

If Aaron Murray didn’t show you anything with those 2 Touchdown drives (and a field goal) against # 5 in the nation defense # 4 in the nation in the polls Florida, then you have no right to post that he played poorly against Florida. He did NOT.

David Greene in 2002 could have gone 1 for the game 3rd Down Conversions against Florida and played Mark Richt into the BCS NC Title Game 2002. He did NOT.

Aaron Murray did. His conversion on 3rd Down vs Florida 2012 to put the game way 17-9 is the difference.

Did anyone notice how the SEC EAST did against the 3 best teams in the ACC + WF?
Won all 4 games by an average of 3-4 TDs……and in 2 of the games the starters were being pulled in the 3rd qtr. I guess they found out how tough Vandy and the rest of UGa’s schedule is!!!

Tech Played terrible.
We knew it would take a Great game to win, but we just don’t have the D to compete right now.
We have missed on recruiting some much need Defensive players but MAYBE we can get a Good D coach/recruiter to turn it around.
Didn’t expect much from WAKE but Vandy killed them more than I thought.
FSU was really disappointing. FLORIDA shows how good a team can be with an Average O but a Great D. TECH has to really work on the D side of the ball.
CLEMSON was a let down too. They couldn’t play D either.

LSU was very close to beating Bama and definitely looked like the better team. That is the same LSU team that lost to Florida, barely beat Ole Miss and beat auburn 12-10 ( all teams UGa beat soundly). Of course there are some comparisons that give Bama an advantage, but I like the DAWG’s chances in this game.

Jeff, this is a late response to your article, but you used two words I have been dying to see associated with the Dawgs: “urgency” and “edge.” Teams used to hate coming to Athens because they left beat up. For this year, anyway, it is good to see that again. The urgency comes from the fact these boys know this defense will be gone after after this year. They finally realize that if UGA does not give an opponent 60 minutes of hell they know they will have not played to their potential. Those plays that some guys took off against Buffalo are a memory. Get after it boys, show heart, and GO DAWGS!
