Predictions: Georgia wins on Red-and-Black Saturday

IMG_0416

Before we get to this week’s big question — will Georgia be caught looking ahead to the SEC Championship game, the BCS title game, world domination, next year’s rankings, global peace, contact with an alien life form and a voice from a burning bush somehow lose to Georgia Tech — let’s get to what really matters.

The continuing devolution of mankind. I speak, of course, of Black Friday.

Once we’ve finished our annual Thursday tradition of consuming four helpings of turkey, three pieces of ham, 17 side dishes, six rolls (or was it seven?), three desserts and a Diet Coke and lapsing into a food coma, we’ll segue into Shopping on Steroids. Black Friday is that wonderful time when we rise at 3 a.m. after four hours of sleep to save $40 on a laptop, $6 on a sweatshirt and 27 cents on Play-Doh.

December wasn't good enough. He just had to start after Thanksgiving.

December wasn't good enough. He just had to start after Thanksgiving.

We’ll be overcome by feelings of a tremendous conquest, until the following week when these same items are on sale for the same price, only without the 400-pound, fire-breathing woman who elbowed you in the head the week before as she reached for the $12 Crock-Pot.

The first Black Friday came following the first Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in 1924, when Santa Claus finished waving to little children, complained of a sore rump and a headache and said, “That wasn’t worth 50 bucks. Where’s my scotch?”

Stay in bed. I’ll generate riches for you so you can afford things full retail!

I’ll make this quick: Georgia is better than Georgia Tech at every single position. The Bulldogs have the added advantage of not having had to fire their defensive coordinator or seeing their athletic director quit for another job. Does Tech have a chance? Of course. Weird things happen in rivalry games. But I’ll side with facts: Better players, more at stake, home field.

It’s Red-and-Black Saturday: Dogs win and cover 13.

Here are some others coaches Saban is fond of.

Here are some others coaches Saban is fond of.

Florida at FSU: The Gators have looked crummy the past few weeks. Will Muschamp’s retort: “We don’t win sexy, but my wife said, ‘You’re sexy.’” Show up in Tallahassee with leopard-skin briefs and a silk robe and just watch what Chief Osceola does with that flaming spear. However: Upset alert! Florida wins (but take the 8 just in case).

Auburn at Alabama: Nick Saban on Gene Chizik: “I personally think he’s done a really fine job.” Think of a fisherman praising the dead flounder in his boat. Bammy covers 31½.

LSU at Arkansas: Three future 7-Eleven night managers have recorded a song, pleading Jon Gruden to take the Arkansas job. The “Hey Grude” (sung to “Hey Jude”) video went viral — kind of like smallpox. Gruden hasn’t responded. He’s hoping Chernobyl comes through with a better benefits package. Tigers cover 12.

Three non-MBA’s from Arkansas

South Carolina at Clemson: Steve Spurrier has a chance to become South Carolina’s all-time winningest coach. I think that’s like holding the Double-A career hits record. (Bang! And here comes the email.) Clemson covers 4.

Say hello to the trophy in the "Battle for the Barrel" (Tennessee vs. Kentucky)

Meet the trophy boy for UK-UT: "Battle for the Barrel."

Help Wanted Bowl: Kentucky and Tennessee meet in the annual “Battle for the Barrel. But with two fired coaches and 14 SEC losses between them, UT might need a lure to get students to show up, like free sandwiches. Or tuition. Vols cover 13.

Miami at Duke: The NCAA sent semi-threatening letters to former Miami players, demanding evidence against infamous rich creep Nevin Shapiro. If the NCAA just throws a party on a yacht instead, I’m sure all of the players would show up. Canes cover 6½.

Maryland at North Carolina: Question: When Maryland cut a deal with the Big Ten, did school administrators have to dress up as, you know, like naughty nurses or something? Or was everybody just cool with the cash being left on the nightstand? Heels cover 24½.

Welcome to the Maryland School of Bidness

NFL TRIFECTA

Falcons at Tampa Bay: Matt Ryan threw five interceptions last week. Hey, maybe he just wanted to get it out of his system before the playoffs. (Sorry. Can’t help myself.) Falcons cover 1.

Packers at Giants: Jermichael Finley on Aaron Rodgers: “If I could throw myself the ball and run under it, I’d do it every play because he’s just not throwing me the ball like he used to.” Smart. He might want to bring a book this week. Giants cover 2½.

49ers at Saints: Paul Tagliabue says he’ll rule on the Saints’ bounty penalties by Dec. 4. So don’t be surprised if Jonathan Vilma jumps bail after the Falcons’ game in two weeks and hides in your bushes. San Fran covers 2.

Hey Jeff. Predictions aside (excuse the blasphemy), I have been reading much about the Big Ten and the more I read the more I think they are full of themselves. Apparently, Maryland and Rutgers are total winners who have been hamstrung by their respective conferences. But, in the comforting financial arms of the Big Ten, they will become the winners they were always destined to be. Give me a break! Despite the explosion of rumors and panic these two moves created, it looks to this unprofessional eye that the Big Ten is bluffing at the Finals table. What if, despite all rumors, everyone stands pat? Whoops Mr. Delany I say. News flash, NYC could not care less about football and cares less for Rutgers. Maryland? This Tech Boy says good riddance. Oh, and THWG!

Discount DoubleDawg, good to see you too! You think I have been quiet? Read a few pages of Jeff’s previous blog. As for the game this weekend, GT can’t stop anybody on defense and I don’t really expect that to change with UGA. If UGA forces GT to punt more than once then it should be an easy win. GT’s only chance is to win in a shootout, or get lucky with turnovers like UGA did against Florida.

I don’t see why they would even try. GT’s run defense is average. Their pass defense is beyond horrible. Why wouldn’t they exploit our weakness? Running the ball against us is a bit of a gift.

Richt 31-1 in Athens vs. non-sec opponents. 10-1 vs Nerds.

Greg

November 21st, 2012
10:30 pm

I think Marshall goes for more yards in this game than Gurley. Gurley will be used more against Bama and they probably won’t give Gurley many carries in this one. I know it sounds crazy but remember how Gurley was the main back vs. Florida. He had 27 carries for 118 yards and a touchdown vs. the Gators. He’ll likely have around the same vs. Bama next week. No reason to bang him up vs. Tech this week. That’s why Marshall will get more carries IMO.

A Waste of Keystrokes

November 21st, 2012
10:31 pm

So I gotta ask… All season long the UGA haters have forecast a loss for us in almost every game. As all of the Tech posters have stated: crazy things can happen. So here is my question: Let’s say the UGA beats Tech, squeaks out a close victory against Alabama, and then beat Nortre Dame for the MNC. What the heck will you say then? I guess all we will hear is that it doesn’t really matter. It’s only one National Championship. Bama was over rated. Florida was having a down year. The fix was in. The refs were paid off. The Dawgs schedule was too soft. Etc. etc. etc.

Does UGA get ANY credit if the stars align and we do win the BCS Championship?

Greg

November 21st, 2012
10:31 pm

GTboob, you see how you just said UGA got lucky with turnovers vs. Florida? Well Florida only had 4 turnovers the ENTIRE YEAR before they played UGA but UGA forced 6…that’s right FORCED. Florida didn’t just give UGA 6 turnovers you buffoon.

This game should not be close at all. Tech has no threat against UGA. UGA has already practiced against the triple option last week and they know how to defend it. We held Tech to 243 rushing yards last year and 17 points (7 of those coming in the final minutes)…

CPJ really trending poorly the past 3 years. He got off to a hot start in 2008 and did well in 09. But he cheated in ‘09, so that acc title was thrown out.

The nerds love CPJ because he has his head up his a**. But that’s also his downfall. He doesn’t recruit well because of it.

If you were AD, what would your plan be to improve the program?

There isn’t much the new AD could do. Most of the problems with Tech Football are at the school level. The administration is not all that committed to making Tech a serious football contender and therefore they probably never will be. One thing the AD could do is try to get some leniency on the allowed academic exemptions. That would provide some help but significant change would require a cultural shift.

Florida didn’t just give UGA 6 turnovers you buffoon.

Why hasn’t UGA forced 6 turnovers in every game then? Was the Florida game the only one they tried in? Im sure UGA forced a couple of them but no one forces 6 turnovers. One that I can remember off the top of my head was Driskel throwing across his body over the middle with time running out in the half. Any decent QB would have thrown it away.

Here is a nice stat for you. Vandy hasn’t beaten a team with a winning record since Coach Franklin has been there. You actually have to go back to 2008 for their last win against a winning team. They haven’t beaten any ranked teams, or won any bowl games either. The only reason Vandy appears to be better now is because of the weakness of the SEC east and some fortunate scheduling.

I hate to say it, but this game has upset written all over it….I am not a Ga. Tech fan. Tech’s defense is going to have an epiphany, “oh, is that wHat those x’s and o’s meant, Coach Groh(ah, the former coach)? Georgia’s players sashaying and prancing and posing in the limelight will find themselves in another stinker(South Carolina 35, UGA 7), K-State last week? Tony Dungy says AAron Murray number 1 pick in draft. It smells like Custer’s last stand….Tech might just pull it out, it shouldn’t be close, but there is something rotten between the hedges this week…

GTbob the pass @ the end of the half had 3 fl receivers in the back of the end zone. The announcer talked about how Rambo made a good play. The two fumbles by driskell were unforced and only one was recovered by Georgia but the most important was the great defensive play by JarvisJones!!!!! The thing is to give credit where credit is due, we turned our season around in Florida!!!!! Just to make a point Murray gave 3 interceptions in first half and defense kept them out of the end zone!!!!!

I have watched every one of Andy Landers seasons. I know women’s basketball. I can tell you this, if he played in a gym considered one of the nation’s best, he would do far better. Several posters state every year on this blog that Andy Landers just has to go. I ask what their familiarity is with our team ? Have they ever watched a game to see how Andy Landers gets after his players to get the most from them ? Have any personal knowledge of the game ? I don’t know what you know about Andy Landers, Women’s Basketball, or The Lady Bulldogs. But, I know what I know. And, what I know is that I would not miss a game, never. It is really exciting. We have top women’s basketball players, with a defensive minded coach, who has it going on.

National Championship ? No. He doesn’t have 1 of those.

Just a repeat blog for the “doubters”. If UGa runs the table they will have possibly played “on the road” 2 teams ranked # 1 most of the season (Bama and ND), the # 2 team (FL) until UGa beat them, and # 3 (SC) the week after they beat the DAWGS. I don’t think there is a single “contender” who can make that claim. Only Bama can say 1-2 (ND, LSU). The moral of this story is that UGa will have played the toughest schedule (based on top 5 teams) if they run the table. Hard to argue with facts you doubters.

Why do Techies keep bringing up “45-42″? That is ancient history and the only blemish on CMR’s record. All that score does is remind me that CMR has ONLY won 90-95% of his games against GT…not 100%. Still, that’s an “A” any way you try to cut it. Thanks for the reminder Techies.

42-45 Don’t you understand ?

All Georgie tek cares about is to beat us.

They do not care how, why, when, how, where, what the circumstances are, whether the ball was fumbled they beat us on, whether the ball was not fumbled they beat us on, how bad their coach is, how bad their quarterback is, whether any of their players graduate or not, nothing – the only thing that matters is that they beat us.

Thomas Brown

Whether they go out and sign our own players and pay them to play for them because the year before they did not win any games, and we did.

Whether our guys are off at World War I fighting for them to stay here collecting players from every other school and claim how great they were while we and our coach were in France.

Whether again in World War II, our players are again off at war, and they once again put together a team of players who again are not Georgie tek students.

Nothing matters in all this world.

Play the FBI Most Wanted Criminal against us the whole entire football game.

Anything.

Beg.

Borrow.

Cheat.

Just to Hell with Georgia like their daddy used to do.

Just beat us.

Nothing else matters.

There is zero reason for us to playing this team.

Instead, what we should do is move the Florida game to the last game of the season, and play them HOME and HOME, or HOME and wherever they want to play their games – the stadium where the Gator Bowl has been held every year since 1946, or wherever they choose.

There is nothing to be gained by beating the brains out of the nerds.

I love the way GT likes to bring in the “academic” piece when they get kicked by UGa. It is a rare, rare occasion when GT loses a recruit to UGa because of “academic” qualifications. GT loses recruits to UGa because UGa is in Athens (consistently voted one of the top college towns in America). GT loses recruits because the UGa campus is so beautiful vs. uglier than ugly!!! UGa has numerous (diversified)programs like: Veterinary Medicine, Pharmacy, Law, Engineering, etc. UGa has great coaches and a great tradition vs GT with ? And ancient history. UGa has Sanford Stadium. that is full on Saturdays vs. that butt ugly Grant Field/Bobby Dodd Stadium that is only partially filled….and mostly with visiting team fans. Most importantly, UGa has gorgeous women and GT has……… So Techies, you really don’t lose recruits because of “ACADEMICS” that is just a good excuse, and as an old coach once told me, “excuses are for losers”!!!

Good Morning buckeye.

Happy Thanksgiving

What I said buckeye, was that there is not 1 single solitary Ohio State University football player who has ever done anything, while The Georgia Bulldogs have 5 players who have Won The NFL Championship Game Most Valuable Player Award. Your answer was Chris Spielman, an ESPN broadcaster – when all ESPN is known for is purposely building up 1 player Tim Tebow for example, or 1 team, Southern California for example at the expense of other players and other teams. They want to not report the sports’ news. ESPN Chris Spielman especially, wants to create the news, bend the news, shape the opinions of the sports’ world. ESPN wants to dominate the news. As a player, Chris Spielman what ? Won 1 bowl game ? He certainly did not bring any national championship to Ohio State. In fact, his years were the lean years. His NFL career, also brought his teams NOTHING. Every year but 1 his NFL teams never won a play-off game. No, Chris Spielman has done NOTHING, after being drafted in the 2nd round of the NFL draft and nothing at Ohio State Unversity either. Nor at ESPN. This is your best example. Charley Trippi, by himself, runs rings around anyone on Ohio State University football teams or what they did after they left Ohio State University, and he is but 1 of many key Georgia Bulldogs through the years who have actually DONE SOMETHING. Ohio State University ? Never. Not 1 player at Ohio State University has EVER DONE anything.

Talk about Ohio State University. Talk about Ohio State University. Where is Ohio State University ranked in the AP Poll. I’ll be back in a minute, buckeye warns us, leaving to go see where Ohio State University is ranked, forgiving them of what they have done.

Archie Griffin – 2-time Heisman Trophy Winner, never did a thing. In the NFL, he ended up 3rd string tailback on his team. One season he got nearly 690 yards rushing. I mean wow. # 24 NFL draft selection of the Bengals.

Vernon Gholston – New York Jets took a flyer on with the # 6 pick in the NFL Draft. Vernon Gholston made 34 tackles over 3 seasons and out of the NFL.

Art Schlichter – started 6 games losing all 6, never completed even half his passes, gambling issues led NFL to kick him out of NFL, let him back, more of the same, and ticket fraud. Currently serving 10-year prison sentence after being selected with the # 4 overall NFL Draft pick by the Baltimore Colts.

Exactly 1 year ago today, Ohio State University tailback Jaamal Berry was arrested and charged with misdemeanor assault and disorderly conduct after police say he punched a man in the face and then bragged about it.

According to a list compiled by The Associated Press, 20 Ohio State players were arrested or faced disciplinary action for rules violations between Tressel’s hiring in 2001 and 2005.

A number of the arrests were alcohol-related, but one player pleaded guilty to robbery, and another pleaded guilty to felony charges related to drug and gun possession. Two others were suspended after being charged with marijuana trafficking and passing fake in-house currency at a strip club.

Tressel may wear a sweater vest, but that doesn’t mean he tolerates such thuggery. Quarterback Troy Smith, who this season brought Ohio State its seventh Heisman Trophy, was convicted of misdemeanor disorderly conduct after a 2003 fight in a campus parking lot, where, a woman reported, her jaw had been broken.

Ohio State University is known as well as a group who think they are special putting THE in front of Ohio State University, while most of their fans are bandwagon fans who have little to no affiliation with the school what so ever. But, we are supposed to talk about them in here. Insisted we discuss Ohio State University.

buckeye – happy ?

This is what Ohio State University is, and it is the perception of Ohio State University nationally. And, you run in here on the UGA blogs to demand we discuss it.

Here is the national perception of Ohio State University :

Maurice Clarett : His rap sheet at Ohio State University prior to being dismissed from the team consisted of filing a false police report, academic misconduct, tumultuous life outside of football, including his dismissal from Ohio State, several arrests, and later, imprisonment. He also had spats with coaches on the sidelines and got into a public war with school administrators over various issues. Led Ohio State University to a national championship in 2002, when Ohio State University football players were selling their uniforms to a tattoo parlor for tattoos. There were no sanctions for Ohio State University over any of this. Until now, and now we’re supposed to look the other way and hand them the AP Poll because – well – the AP Poll voters (press) are supposed to IGNORE than Ohio State University has had all these advantages in order to build all these teams for a DECADE. It started with Maurice Clarett in 2002 and continued until their NCAA Probation 2012. And, of course, Ohio State University covered it all up. This is why Jim Tressel was fired.

He was seen yelling at his position coach during the Northwestern – Ohio State University game in the 2002 season. In December 2002, he publicly criticized OSU officials for not paying for him to fly home for the funeral of a friend. Maurice Clarett accused administrators of lying when they said he had not filed the necessary paperwork. In July 2003, Maurice Clarett became the center of an academic scandal when a teaching assistant told the New York Times that Clarett had received preferential treatment from a professor. Duh.

Maurice Clarett had filed a false claim that more than $10,000 in clothing, CDs, cash and stereo equipment were stolen from a car he borrowed from a local dealership in September 2003. Athletic Director Andy Geiger stated at the time that Maurice Clarett also took special benefits totaling approximately $20,000. There were no sanctions for any of that either. Maurice Clarett repeatedly misled investigators. Clarett later pleaded guilty to a failure to aid a law enforcement official.

Maurice Clarett signed with an agent before being denied the opportunity to join the NFL Draft, and the NCAA refused to reinstate his college eligibility on a number of grounds.

4.82 Maurice Clarett put up for his Combine 40-yard dash, and just up and quit the Combine at that point. He actually then asked Ohio State University, who refused to allow him to take part in a private workout for pro scouts in Columbus because it wanted to avoid a circus situation.

Maurice Clarett was drafted in the 3rd Round, and was released on waivers on August 28, 2005, only a month after signing his contract with no guaranteed monies. He never played even a single down in the NFL. Other teams could have claimed him and taken on his contract, then he was freed from that contract and was able to negotiate with any team, but no team expressed interest.

As his college and NFL careers tanked, The Miami Herald reported in September that Clarett was already $1 million in debt from legal fees for his fight with the NFL and other costs. They also reported that Clarett turned down the traditional signing bonus in the originally proposed contract from Denver wanting incentives that would get if he ran 1000 yards multiple seasons.

I am not even going to get in to all his arrests, mental health evaluations, police chases, guns, robberies, or his prisons.

Alabama crushes Auburn, Florida St. beats Florida by 11, LSU pounds Arkansas by 20 and Georgia beats Tech by 18 , Clemson beats Gamecocks by 8.
Its Georgias game to lose but that wont be by lack of performances on the Offense and Defense, it may come down to turn overs, penalties that help Tech and Special Teams.
Our FG Kicker is young and hasnt had alot of pressure kicking the winning FG, then our poor special teams that dont cover kicks offs well or punts could be a factor.
Penalties arent Georgias best friend either. Alot of dumb penalties have hurt Georgia and alot of our games with Tech have come from momentum swings.
You best believe that Tech has nothing to lose and so expect trick plays alot in this game, fake FG’s, fake punts, 10 yard kickoffs and reverses.
Their gonna blitz like never before on Murray hoping for an interception, fumble or a srtrip of the ball.
This is why “Nothing to lose Teams” gain momentum and upsets.
Dawgs have got to keep all this in the back of their minds. Tech wants an upset or dethroning of Georgia and will do anything to accomplish that feat.
Stay focused, be aware, be confident in yourself, execute and blow them off the lines. Stay in your lanes and not get sucked in by deception.
This is especially important for those CB’s and Safeties because Ga Southern had recievers 20 yards down the field.Seal the corners and up the middle and jam their running game and it wont be close.
Force Tech to throw and its over for them.

Why do people say stupid things like “Throw out the record books” when it comes to rivalry games? It’s not true; in fact underdogs UNDERperform in rivalry games (a recent Harvard study looked at this http://harvardsportsanalysis.wordpress.com/2012/11/19/please-do-not-throw-out-the-record-books/. The truth is that not only does the favorite win overwhelmingly in rivalry games, they are 42% more likely to COVER than in a non-rivalry game. This is one of the dumbest sports clichés.

The UGA/GT rivalry is the 2nd most lopsided in favor of the favorite in college football; the most lopsided is the Iron Bowl where the favorite has won 73 of 76 times. That does mean that BOTH teams have done their part as the favorite, but the idea that you can throw away record books is silly.

Just sayin- I agree. IF UGA wins out, they deserve the MNC. My point is that so far this season, UGA has proven it can beat Florida. Nothing else. The “tough conference” argument is a joke, when the best teams play in the West and you didn’t play any of them. Of the Top 6 teams in the SEC (UGA being one), UGA has played 2 of them and gone 1-1. And I’m not sure how that comment “blew mine out of the water”, when the 5:39 comment was based on ifs. Mine was based on actual games played, not possible scenarios.

Georgia Tech has the nation’s highest average SAT score for football players, and also the highest average high school GPA.

UGA, on the other hand, has one of the very lowest SAT averages, as well as a very low GPA average. As a result, 88% of UGA players are “special admits,” when means that they can not meet the minimum educational and intelligence requirements for admission to UGA, even as low as that is. As a practical matter, most UGA players are functionally illiterate and will spend their lives on welfare or pushing a mop at a business that took pity on them and gave them a menial job.

Yes, it would be great if Tech was more competitive with UGA, but Tech fans are proud of our heritage of having intelligent, responsible athletes who go on to rewarding careers and contribute to society.

Contrast this with the very unintelligent thugs that UGA recruits. The 53 arrests over the last four years is proof enough, not to mention winning the Fulmer Cup. Most of these goons are tossed out after their eligibility is over, and many end up on welfare.

UGA is clearly just a football factory dedicated to winning at all costs, and most UGA fans are okay with this, with no concern about the embarrassment this brings to the State of Georgia.

Mark Richt is the architect of this situation. As long as he is paid a huge salary, he will continue to recruit the illiterate brain-dead thugs who he thinks will win. Unfortunately for UGA fans, he’s not remotely in the same league with the top coaches in the SEC.

So the bottom line is that Georgia Tech – win or lose – does so with honor and integrity, while the lowlife punks, woman beaters, drug users, and drunks in Athens continue to embarrass us all.

You know seeing people blogging ridicolous statements about Georgias players and our school tells me that going to Tech hasnt done a thing for them.
It should tell you why Tech isnt a school of choice as it is a school of conveinance or location for all those people living in Atlanta.
The only sport Tech grads should brag about at all is basketball. UGA has you not only in football but tennis, golf, volley ball, gymnastics, softball, ladies basketball, and more.
Those Smog Smokers that go to Tech really need to stay off the blog pages because its football season and youre not going to convince people that Tech has a great football program.
Yeah any team can upset or win a game and coaches arent judged on winning against one team as much as their overall record.
Mark Richt has been at Georgia for 12 seasons and in that time i believe that Tech has had 3 coaches and even had one head coach falsify documents to Notre Dame after he got the job but was immediately fired.
I dont think that Dawg Fans hate you as much as we feel sorry for your school. Other than playing us once a year im sure Dawg Fans like to see Tech win some games but in the football world you stink and often times i think Ga. Tech should go to a less competitive Division like D 2-A to play.
Its not that you have better scholastics or athletic programs than Georgia, its because youre more conveinant to Atlantans to be there.
Smarter people dont go to Tech ,they go there because its conveinant and a smaller school with all those buildings jammed in one place.
Where everything is built on top of eachother, where i hear they now offer courses on “Drive-by shootings”.
You cant expand and if you then you have to tear something up to build it. Georgias campuses are spread out, beautiful scenary without the Smog Effect.
No drive-by at night, no hold ups, no crammed buildings, no parking problems, no traffic problems and no graffitti on side of buildings.
Ive lived here all my life just below Atlanta and go thru that mess every morning afternoon and theres no way i’d ever live there MUCHLESS attend college there.
Georgia State is just as bad.
Heck Morris Brown has a better campus than Tech.
Nah alot of recruits go to Tech for conveinance and for The Varsity, and bars.
To get on here and talk about how great it is to be a Tech Fan is just dillusional , kinda reminds me of a midget waving at you asking for help in a concert so he can see it.
Just very odd that your statements make sense.

FACT: During the 1986 Jan Kemp trial, Hale Almand Jr., a lawyer for UGA, offered a justification for the favorable treatment accorded the athletes, citing a typical UGA player. “We may not make a university student out of him,” he told the jury, “but if we can teach him to read and write, maybe he can work at the post office rather than as a garbageman when he gets through with his athletic career.”

That trial exposed UGA for the football factory that it was, and exposed slimy Vince Dooley as a fraud and a sleazebag. It also derailed Dooley’s plans for a political career in the U.S. Congress. That’s why we see the decrepit old fraud doing TV commercials even now.

Mark Richt is just the latest in a line of douchebag UGA coaches who coddle athletes and discard them after four years of football. He recruits illiterate thugs he knows aren’t remotely intelligent enough for college, but he doesn’t care, as long as they help him line his pockets with millions of dollars each year.

GEORGIA TECH at GEORGIA

Edward Aschoff: The Bulldogs got some good practice with the triple-option offense last week against Georgia Southern. And they won’t be bothered by what Georgia Tech has to offer in a game that will bring Georgia one step closer to a national championship berth. … Georgia 41, Georgia Tech 21

Chris Low: This is right where Georgia hoped to be when the season began. The Bulldogs, who didn’t look like a national championship contender for much of October, now control their destiny. Strange things tend to happen in rivalry games like this, but the Bulldogs aren’t about to have a slip-up now. … Georgia 38, Georgia Tech 20

If I’m not mistaken, since the game is being played in Athens, this means there will be ACC refs on the field and an SEC person in the replay booth. Hopefully this will mean the refs will know the difference between a cut block and a chop block because they’ve been exposed to GA Tech’s offense in the past, and the team won’t get a bogus call against them (like Georgia Southern did last weekend).

I also expect Paul Johnson is very pleased, coming into the game, his Yellow Jacket team is such a large underdog to the mighty Bulldogs. I think that “us against the world” motivational approach on top of the “gold old fashion hate,” piled on top of “we’re the ACC Coastal Champions” and “they’re the SEC Eastern Conference Champions”…and then Paul Johnson will probably finish his little “talk” with a gentle “reminder” of what happened at the end of last season on Grant Field with the UGA players.

I expect the Jackets to be fired up Saturday, and very aggressive the entire game. UGA will probably hit some big plays, but they’re also going to take some big hits and get tackled behind the line of scrimmage, too, including Murray getting sacked. I also think Tech is going for turnovers – interceptions, ball strips, blindsiding Murray to try to get him to fumble, maybe even a blocked kick.

Good to see everyone in the holiday spirit, with love and kindness to your fellow man. LMAO! Can Tech win? Yeah, we can win. The math works against it…but. I’m not planning on a victory party. Based on my eyeball test this year, yeah, Georgia has slopped around a lot, but they still win the games. Tech on the other hand has performed worse than a D1a team. Bottom line: UGA believes it can win every game, and shows it. Even if the athletes were comparable (which they’re not) I haven’t seen Tech demonstrate it believes anything about winning. Not against even a mediocre team (VaTech, Miami, and, God help us, MTSU for crying out loud) If these two teams play 10 times, Georgia wins 9. Better athletes, yes, but mostly because they believe they can. Long day for us, I’m afraid.

Dawg Nation,

First of all, I’d like to thank you for taking the time to read this. My name is Michael Snell and I am one of this year’s Battle Hymn Soloists, a tradition I’ve proudly been part of for 3 years – through the good, the bad, and the ugly that has defined Georgia Football in these last few seasons.

In recent seasons, students and fans alike have taken the initiative to organize unofficial “Blackouts,” sporting the black half of the Red and Black in a spirited effort to express the pride we have in our team and university which unites the entire Bulldog Nation.

While I understand that some of our fans are superstitious of this “tradition,” I believe it’s important to recognize that correlation does not imply causation – our team doesn’t win or lose because of the colors of fans’ clothes. And, if anything, this show of spirit further ignites the game day atmosphere in Sanford Stadium.

In the media, Dawg fans never get the pleasure of hearing about how intimidating their stadium is – how difficult it is for an opposing away team to succeed in such an “electric” environment.

Our football team – the one that has fought to a 10-1 record thus far – represents us well as one of the top 3 teams in the nation. And we owe it to them to be one of the top 3 fan bases in the nation – to give them a game day environment as menacing as they are.

I don’t know what the remainder of this season has in store, but any respectable Bulldog fan should know the stakes are high. And at this point in the season, anything can happen. This weekend, we expect our players to give it their all. It’s time for our fans to do the same.

It’s time to blackout. If our fans can pull together and proudly sport that menacing black, then I will too.

Happy Thanksgiving.

Well Steve, there’s what you know, and what you say. I believed we would win in ‘09. That one hurt, because I thought we were the better team that year. Turns out we forgot how to tackle. UGA had something to prove, and we didn’t stop it. UGA is better than us this year, by any measure.

@Anne of cleves,
You have got to be kidding me!!! Yes, many UGa recruits don’t have the SAT scores of the average UGa student, but goodness sakes Anne, do you believe that even 5% of GT players have the SAT scores of the average GT student? What about your basketball players? Please lady…..those 95+% athletes are also “special admits” because they would never get into GT if they couldn’t run fast!!! Fact my dear!!!
=====================================================================

SHOW a link to your FACTS that GT had a bunch of special admits.
Here are some FACTS on TECH Students and Players.

http://www.usnews.com/education/blogs/paper-trail/2008/12/30/athletes-show-huge-gaps-in-sat-scores

The Journal-Constitution studied 54 public universities, “including the members of the six major Bowl Championship Series conferences and other schools whose teams finished the 2007-08 season ranked among the football or men’s basketball top 25.”

We all suspect that big-time student athletes sometimes aren’t the best and the brightest academically.

Some highlights:

Football players average 220 points lower on the SAT than their classmates. Men’s basketball was 227 points lower.
University of Florida won the prize for biggest gap between football players and the student body, with players scoring 346 points lower than their peers.
Georgia Tech had the nation’s best average SAT score for football players, 1028 of a possible 1600, and best average high school GPA, 3.39 of a possible 4.0. But because its student body is apparently very smart, Tech’s football players still scored 315 SAT points lower than their classmates.
Some “universal truths,” according to the Journal-Constitution:

All 53 schools for which football SAT scores were available had at least an 88-point gap between team members’ average score and the average for the student body.

Schools with the highest admissions standards, such as Georgia Tech, the University of Virginia, the University of California-Berkeley, UCLA, and the University of North Carolina, had the biggest gaps between the SAT averages for athletes and the overall student body.

Football players performed 115 points worse on the SAT than male athletes in other sports.

The differences between athletes’ and non-athletes’ SAT scores were less than half as big for women (73 points) as for men (170).

Many schools routinely used a special admissions process to admit athletes who did not meet the normal entrance requirements. More than half of scholarship athletes at the University of Georgia, the University of Wisconsin, Clemson University, UCLA, Rutgers University, Texas A&M University and Louisiana State University were special admits. . . At Georgia, for instance, 73.5 percent of athletes were special admits compared with 6.6 percent of the student body as a whole.

Do not be surprised if Oregon is ranked ahead of the Dogs next week, especially if Florida State beats Florida. It is too bad that Tech has such a poor record this year ,it will cost the Dogs in the polls ,because Oregon will get more credit for beating their in state rival Oregon State because they are ranked in the top 20.Not wanting to create unwanted drama ,just trying to prepare UGA fans for what the so called ESPN experts “Dr. Lou ,Mark May,Cowherd , Mike &Mike ,etc . etc.” will be pushing on the airwaves.

Students are not imagining it if they think it’s harder to get in to Georgia Tech.
Those admitted for next fall boast an average 3.9 GPA and a 1430 out of 1600 on the math and verbal SAT. By high school graduation these students would have taken an average of eight college-level courses, such as Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate.
About 14,700 students applied for one of the 2,400 spots for fall or the 250 spots for this summer. The admitted class represents 86 countries and 49 states. No one from Wyoming was admitted.

If the Dogs win out and Florida wins against FSU the Dogs would have wins against two top five teams and their one loss would be to a top 10 team if Spurrier can beat Clemmons College. And by some miracle Tech beats FSU next week the Dogs can say they beat the ACC champs too. Some of the best players, with lower scores, were offered by Tech but they just chose not to accept. I am not going to continue doing research for you, so if you are really interested in this you should look it up. RMikel58, most of the people on here talking big time smack about the Dawgs are not GT fans for the most part. I assure you most of us true GT fans say a few things but we do not downgrade UGA like you seem to think we do. As far as your sports programs, no doubt in almost all but Basketball and Baseball you do dominate as you should. Let’s look at the size of the school and the requirements to get into UGA compared to GT, do they really compare I DO NOT THINK SO!!!!

You look at this game coming up Saturday and no way should GT win this game this year or any other year for that matter. Can it happen, sure and something is telling me that it might strictly because of what it means for both schools to win. UGA has alot more riding on this then the Jackets do but at the same time these Jackets want this game in a bad way to ruin UGA’s chances if nothing else. As far as people downgrading the University of Georgia well the past speaks for itself and what has happened under CMR in his 12 years.

It is not the University of Georgia or the Football team that most people do not like, it is the rude abnoxious fans or so called fans that follow the program that people can not stand. UGA has played two teams this year being USC and UF and are 1-1 so to say that UGA is worthy we will see in two weeks..

While a GT win on Saturday would make for a GREAT start to the Holiday season, unfortunately, GT rarely seams to pull off “the Baylor over K-St” kind of wins.

If the Jackets somehow keep the game close, or even manage to have a late lead, something fortunate will happen for the Dawgs on the way to their W. Fortune (i.e. Stafford pk-6, Samuels fumble) has only happened once for the Jackets this century vs the Dawgs. And I don’t expect it to happen on Sat. I’m really surprised that the line is only 13. Have the oddsmakers not seen GT’s D?

Still hoping a miracle happens on Saturday though. Go Jackets!

I personally believe the top 5 in the BCS will win this week. Rivalry week or not, some teams are just better than others. The emotions might make it a close game in the 1st half, but emotions are feelings. They don’t last forever. In the 2nd half, true skill seems to dominate. That’s when the better team wins

@Anne of Cleves:

To quote Disraeli: “Lies, damn lies and statistics.”

Here are the real data: Tech football recruits had an average SAT of 1028/1600, which is indeed the highest in the country. Georgia’s SAT average for football recruits is 949/1600, which is above the NCAA average of 941 for NCAA Division I programs–not in the bottom percentage.

U.Ga’s football players carry an APR (Academic progress rate) of 970, which compare favorably with Tech’s APR of 974 and is third in the SEC.

U.Ga graduates 69% of its football players, fifth in the SEC. Tech graduates 55% of its players, which is dead last in the ACC.

Your manufactured “data” are refuted by the facts. U.Ga’s players are most emphatically not “functionally illiterate.” In fact, the junior quarterback who will torch your feeble secondary on Saturday has already graduated, made over 1500 on the SAT and is working on his MBA. The fact that your program is not competitive is because of poor recruiting and inadequate coaching. Stanford is an academic institution that most would say has a better international reputation than Georgia Tech. They beat the number one team in the nation last weekend. It sure doesn’t seem like their academics have been an impediment to success. Notre Dame, another academically strong institution, is doing pretty well on the gridiron, as well. Stop hiding behind this manufactured “academics” excuse and accept the obvious: your football program is just not very good. And stop making up data about Georgia players and about Mark Richt, who has more integrity in his little finger than Paul Johnson has accumulated during his entire lifetime. The arrests you talk about are largely of the minor underage drinking variety–and they are made public knowledge because Coach Richt is an honest man and does not believe in covering anything up. At least we didn’t have any coaches smoking pot at work and getting a DUI, like a certain former North Avenue Trade School employee, or conspiring to sell over 100 pounds of marijuana, as happened with Reuben Houston a few years back (who was re-instated the week of the Georgia game a few years back). We didn’t have to give up a conference title because of improper benefits to athletes, like the Jackets did a few years back.

If you make accusations, you’d better be prepared to back them up with facts. Here are a couple of links:

Compare special admits for each football team and see what you come up with. That gives UGA a tremendous edge in recruiting. You lose credability when you talk about improper benefits costing GT a conference title. Every school you mentioned offers their version of “Rocks for Jocks” courses. Those schools have easy majors kids can take and graduate but still barely read above an 8th grade level. UNC had students and tutors writing papers and taking tests for players. A BS degree is more difficult than a BA degree. Take the time to look at the course requirements for the degrees TECH offers. So your excuse for the fact that your scholarship recruits are not suited for the purpose for which they are intended is that, despite the fact that Georgie tek tells us their high school GPA and SAT scores are the highest in the nation, less than half of them graduate in football with a 45 Federal Graduation Rate 2011-012 and 15 percent of them graduate in men’s basketball with a 15 Federal Graduation Rate 2011-2012. And, they are the pits at winning.

It must really frost yours that you have to dream up such pitiful excuses.

Let me ask you this ?

Why do your scholarship recruits in men’s tennis graduate at a 88 percent Federal Graduation Rate ?

Oh, you have no answer for that ? Really ?

Georgia tek men’s tennis graduate at a 88 percent Federal Graduation Rate 2011-2012, Georgie tek men’s swimming graduate at a 80 percent Federal Graduation Rate 2011-2012, and men’s track and field graduate at a 74 percent Federal Graduation Rate 2011-2012. In fact, all Georgie tek’s sports all graduate at a much better Federal Graduation Rate 2011-2012 than your 45 percent Football and 15 percent men’s basketball Federal Graduation Rate 2011-2012.

So timeout runs in here and says the answer is that a BS degree is just too damn hard. Excuse me, every other scholarship recruit to Georgie tek except football and men’s basketball graduate just fine. It’s just your football players and your men’s basketball players are wholly unable to be suited for the purpose for which they are intended either on the football field or on the men’s basketball court, or in the same classrooms taking the same courses at the same time from the same professors with the same BS degree requirements.

How can this be ?

Aren’t these BOTH too, the very same 2 sports, football and men’s basketball, which are BOTH too the very ones in which Georgie tek is on NCAA PROBATION Major Infractions’ Database ? Yes.

Get out of here with your FLIMSY EXCUSES, time-out. You were not on the Debate Team at Georgie tek, were you time-out ?

# 6 school Stanford 26-11 men’s basketball, 9-2 football
# 8 school Duke 27-7 men’s basketball, 6-5 football
# 12 school Northwestern 19-14 men’s basketball, 8-3 football
# 17 school Vanderbilt 25-11 men’s basketball, 7-4 football
# 18 school Notre Dame 22-12 men’s basketball, 11-0 football
# 24 school Southern Cal 6-26 men’s basketball, 7-4 football
# 25 school Virginia 22-10 men’s basketball, 4-7 football
# 27 school Weak Forest 13-18 men’s basketball, 5-6 football
# 29 school Michigan 24-10 men’s basketball, 8-3 football
# 30 school North Carolina 32-6 men’s basketball, 7-4 football
# 31 school Boston College 9-22 men’s basketball, 2-9 football
# 36 school Georgie tek 11-20 men’s basketball, 6-5 football
# 63 school Georgia 15-17 men’s basketball, 10-1 football

None of your other sports and none of these higher ranked schools, better schools, have issues with their graduation rates of their men’s basketball and football players, nor their performance on the football gridiron nor on the gym courts. It’s just that Georgie tek’s scholarship recruits in men’s basketball and football, both on NCAA PROBATION Major Infractions’ Database, are not suited for the purpose for which they are intended, either in their sport, nor in their classrooms.

Why is that ?

Then, of course, there is you sitting there telling us that the reason why your football players graduate at 45 percent and why your men’s basketball players graduate at 15 percent is that the degree requirements at Georgie tek for a BS are just too tough.

Then, we look at every other sport at Georgie tek and see none of them are having any issues with the BS degree at all, including men’s golf, men’s track and field, men’s tennis, men’s swimming and diving- it’s just football and men’s basketball that the degree requirements for a BS degree are just too hard.

We’re told that at Georgie tek, the school is so severe because it is 1 of the nation’s top universities right up there with # 1 Harvard.

But, we look that up too, and no again the nerds have grossly exaggerated that too, and Georgie tek is ranked as actually a WORSE school than Duke, North Carolina, Northwestern, Stanford, Boston College, Vanderbilt, Virginia, Notre Dame, Southern California, Weak Forest, Michigan, and Notre Dame.

And all those BETTER schools all do far better than Georgie tek is graduating their scholarship recruits in football and in men’s basketball than Georgie tek does, and they do far better than Georgie tek in football and in men’s basketball than Georgie tek does as well.

So, you will change to subject now to the people posting here now that we’ve completed debunked your utter lies, distortions, and flattering comparisons with the top schools all doing BETTER than Georgie tek in football and in men’s basketball and at graduating their scholarship recruits.

Quit trying to make excuses for your recruits in football and in men’s basketball. They are not suited for the purpose for which they are intended in their sports nor in your classrooms, and that is why they cannot graduate from a school so strict as Georgie tek, nor compete in their sport either – as you were told by

Georgia Tech has the nation’s highest average SAT score for football players, and also the highest average high school GPA.

UGA, on the other hand, has one of the very lowest SAT averages, as well as a very low GPA average. As a result, 84% of UGA players are “special admits,” when means that they can not meet the minimum educational and intelligence requirements for admission to UGA, even as low as that is.

Contrast this with the very unintelligent dummies that UGA recruits.

*** ANNOUNCING A CASTING CALL ***

The producers of the upcoming musical drama Isaiah and Me will be holding tryouts soon in Athens. The show will be a poignant re-creation of UGA coach Mark Richt’s wooing of uber-talented high school star Isaiah Crowell, Crowell’s triumphant arrival in Athens, his ups and downs, and his ultimate downfall and estrangement from Richt, who he looked upon as a father figure.

The highly acclaimed Bobby Petrino has already signed to play the role of Mark Richt. Said Petrino, “Mark Richt and I are so much alike that it will be easy for me to play him on stage.” When asked about this, Richt gave the reporter a blessing and replied, “No comment,” but Richt has hinted to associates that he’s tickled pink to have a quality coach playing him.

Coach Rodney Garner will be played by the Goodyear blimp. Coach Todd Grantham will be played by Jackie Sherrill, and Coach Mike Bobo will be played by Bozo the Clown, who’s on loan from Ringling Brothers Circus.

Several current UGA players were considered for the role of Isaiah Crowell, but none of them were able to read the script without assistance, so this role is still open. Rumors are circulating that Cam Newton wants the role, but his dad insists on the cash up front.

Other roles to be cast include several of Isaiah’s girlfriends and some of his homeboys. Those trying out for girlfriend roles must be suitably trashy-looking and should be able to speak fluent Ebonics. Homeboys should have the same qualities, and should be familiar with trashtalk and handguns, as well as the proper way to roll a blunt.

This is a great opportunity for budding thespians, so don’t miss your chance to be immortalized on stage.

Tryout dates and times will be posted here soon, so watch for the news.

The graduation rates for players is higher than that of the rest of the student body !!

First Year Student Retention (full-time students): 95%
4-Year Graduation Rate: 31%
6-Year Graduation Rate: 79%

The course load at Tech is rigorous and there graduation rates are one of the reasons that Techs US News & World Reports rankings are in the 30’s. As far as recruiting GT is at a disadvantage due its limited curriculum and tight standards of enrollment, Notre Dame and Stanford have social science and liberal art colleges which can cast a much broader reach of players, GT doesn’t offer those majors. That fact the GT still manages to consistently compete is impressive when put into the context of their restrictions, however I do feel that settling for mediocrity is not and should not be a goal either.

OK so I am stupid…..or is it the pot calling the kettle black. How many HS grads (non-athletes) got into UGa last year with a 1028 on their SATs. The answer is “NONE”!!! In fact, none of the 6000 plus had a score below 1128…..much less 1028. My point is, if GT claims to have no “special admits” then how in the world do their football players have SAT averages that are 315 points lower than the overall student body. You guys claim to be good in math, but you obviously don’t understand the basic stuff. There is NO conceivable way that your football players with 1028 SAT scores would not be “special admits” at UGA…..much less at GT. You guys are full of Malarky and may even be, as you say, “stupid” if you don’t understand that 90+% of your football players would not get into GT with 1028 SATs (based on averages half would have to be in the 800-900 range). Give me a break….your team is loaded to bear with players who could not get into GT if they weren’t good football players….thus they are “special admits”!

GTech should change their colors for the in-state rivalry game to GREEN…that reflects their clearly emotional issue they have with this Little-brother syndrome…Keep telling yourself that you are so much smarter than us (have you met our two freshman RB’s and our Grad School QB?)…calling us dummies…gimme a break…our program is fun, entertaining, fills seats, creates NFL stars, makes tons of cash….yours, well…does none of those things…now go to your own blog and cry to each other…run along now…so the grown ups can talk.

GREAT points “Just Saying”
GT likes to act like they are intellectually superior compared to everyone else. You are totally correct, almost all of their players would NOT get into UGa or GT if they were not treated differently…thus they must be “special admissions”. Great job pointing that out.

Stafford SHOULD be fat!!!!!!!!!!!!

Had he stayed for the full 4 years under CMB there would not have been enough money in the NFL to pay him what he would have been worth but he possibly would have settled for 49% ownwership of the entire NFL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Remember he was the FIRST DRAFT PICK which dumped Half A Zillion Dollars in his lap. Had over 400 yds. passing Thursday but Detroit HC got a 15 yd. penalty for throwing the Protest Flag a little early and it cost Detroit the game(Worse rule in NFL History that likely will be changed in the offseason)

Ole Fatt Matt is pulling Ole #81(Calvin Whats-his-name) along with him by getting the ball to him like nobody in Calvin WHN past was able to do. Calvin owes Fatt Matt Staff bigtime.

TechMBA,

Many of us who went to UGA never wanted to go to Tech. I was accepted at GT but wanted to experience a university with a campus atmosphere. Downtown Atlanta doesn’t hold the same appeal for me that it does for you. Congratulations on your degree. But it doesn’t give you a right to denigrate others who chose to go somewhere other than Ga. Tech.

We were stomped by South Carolina and barely beat a terrible overrated Florida team and now we have to play an offense that we have never shut down.

Some Tech fans have an inflated view of their football team. MTSU beat GT by 3 TDs @ Bobby Dodd Stadium. Vanderbilt would dominate the Jackets. Ole Miss is better than ANY team in the ACC Coastal Division. And Tech fans can bad-mouth UF all they want, but I’d be willing to bet they would lose to the Gator’ scout team by double digits.

ACC Coastal Division Champions with a .500 record. THAT’S a joke, not Georgia’s schedule.

After/if both Georgia and Oregon with their in-state rivalries, no pollster in their right mind will vote for Georgia at #2 and not Oregon.

What is interesting about the Pac-12 is that if Stanford goes on to beat UCLA tomorrow, they will face each other again in the Pac-12 championship game. If UCLA goes on to win, they will face Oregon. Also, if UCLA beats Stanford, I see no reason why they wouldn’t move up into the top 10 in the BCS standings (if not the human-polls). Their two loses coming to Oregon State (currently #15 in the BCS and, inexplicably, Cal – what happened there, no one knows).

Anyway, I fully expect Stanford to win the Pac-12 and play Nebraska in the Rose Bowl, but Oregon to play Alabama in the BCS game, after being ranked #2, especially after Alabama destroys Georgia.

What about Not-Our-Shame, you ask? Bah, I don’t like to think about it…

I have to admit that I’m a little suprised at all of the ’smack’ being talked by the Tech folks. A 14 point Dog.

Defense gives us an average of 31 a game.

Georgia averages scoring 37 a game.

Georgia is at home.

The game is the next hurdle for having a shot at a National Championship.

Tech’s 3 game win streak? Duke (6-4), NC (7-4) and Maryland (4-7)

Those same three teams last four games each? A combined record of 3-9, with North Carolina with 2 of the 3 wns. Duke and Maryland are both ‘free falling’ at the end of the season.

Tech’s quality win? North Carolina Ranked teams as of today that Tech has played? Clemson

And the Tech folks are critical of Georgia’s schedule?

Herre is the question that should be asked…

What happens if Tech is blown out by Georgia and FSU?

Doe CPJ keep his job?

Everyone travel safe tomorrow…
