Can you hear SEC commissioner Mike Slive? "Yes, I am king. Are there any questions?" (AP photo)
While it’s easy to understand why any fan of a conference not named the SEC grows tired of hearing and reading about the SEC, the evolution of this year’s conference championship match-ups screams why the landscape is so lopsided.
This came home Monday when Miami announced that the football program was going to self-impose a bowl ban (hoping to beat the NCAA to the punch) and therefore would not accept a bid to the ACC championship game. This allowed Georgia Tech to back through the door as Coastal Division “champions.” The Jackets will face Florida State for the ACC title.
This isn’t meant to pick on Georgia Tech. It’s not the Jackets’ fault they have been given this opportunity, despite a relatively crummy season. But if you want to know why the SEC commands the attention it does, just look at how the ACC and other conference championship games compare.
Here are the conference title games, listed from worst to first:
• BIG EAST: There is no conference championship game because it doesn’t have enough teams (12 is the mandated minimum). Why the Big East is an automatic qualifier in the BCS order of things is beyond logic because it seems to exist only to have its remains picked over by the ACC and Big 12 for their own conference expansion. On a related note: Possible Big East champion Rutgers is considering joining the Big Ten.
• BIG 12: It was forced to cancel its conference championship game after 2010 because the defections of Nebraska (Big Ten) and Colorado (Pacific 12) left the conference with only 10 teams. In other words, the name “Big 12” is a lie! There’s also this: Kansas State, the conference’s best team and No. 1 in the BCS until Saturday, just got flattened by Baylor.
• ACC: The conference championship will match Georgia Tech against Florida State. If the Yellow Jackets lose to Georgia, they will be a 6-6 conference finalist. So much for marquee value. Coastal Division teams Miami and North Carolina are ineligible and usual power Virginia Tech has fallen apart. The Seminoles, winners of the Atlantic, have a nice record (10-1). But they get little love from computers (ranking 17th) and stand only 10th in the BCS. That’s what happens when you lose to North Carolina State and have one win over a ranked team (Clemson).
• BIG TEN: This is very ACC-like. Third-place Wisconsin (4-3, 7-4, with another possible loss this week at Penn State) will represent the “Leaders” Division in the conference championship game. Why? Because Ohio State (7-0, 11-0) and Penn State (5-2, 7-3) both are ineligible. The other finalist will be either Nebraska or Michigan, neither of whom rank among the top 13 schools in the BCS.
• PACIFIC 12: Oregon, the conference’s best team and until Saturday the No. 2 team in the BCS, may not even play for the Pac-12 title now. The Ducks lost to Stanford at home, and now need a win over Oregon State and a Stanford loss to UCLA to get into the game. The Bruins locked up the South Division with last week’s win over USC. But they’re far out of BCS title contention (17th).
• SEC: Conference teams have won six straight BCS championships and, as much as it pains the rest of the populace, there is a chance the SEC will make it seven. If Georgia beats Georgia Tech Saturday and Alabama beats Auburn, the Bulldogs and Crimson Tide will meet next week for not only the SEC championship but a pass into BCS game. Upsets by Tech and/or Auburn would change the scenario. But as of now, the SEC has by far the best conference title game and with the most on the line nationally.
So what else is new?

While your list of conference championship games is on point, the fact that the SEC’s game carries the most weight is not the reason it dominates college football. It’s just the by-product.

What I’m really tire of with the whole SEC! SEC! crap is that there have three teams, FL, Bama and LSU that have won NC’s of late – um, and Auburn lest we forget with the one semester “student athlete” term of the much maligned and some would argue paid for Cam Newton.
The rest of the SEC! SEC! (read the dogs) is just the snotty nosed kid brother of the Big Man On Campus (read Bama this year)..
The dogs have NOTHING to hang a hat on since 1980 but a bumbling (pun intended) record against top 25 competition which as not, by the way, included Bama or LSU lately, only the 0-8 in SEC! SEC! Auburn Tigres.
So dogs, have you days until game day then we’ll all know you were what we thought you were.

Both GT and GA can’t help looking ahead to their conference championship games, so is the winner the one that does the least looking ahead? Talk about teams backing their way into a championship. Who did the SEC play this past weekend that warranted their teams to move into 3 of the top five BCS spots? What a joke! And Oregon drops to 5th because they lost in overtime to the 11th ranked team and one of the best defenses in the country? The SEC makes it into the championship game every year because they have gamed a broken system not because it is a superior conference. Sure they have won those games, but winning one game isn’t the hard part getting there is unless you play 4 junior colleges a year.

The SEC has teams at the top based on reputation. No way if you have watched Florida or GA you would think they were top 5 teams. GA has played one good team and lost 35-7. Florida has had some LSU like luck this year to escape while being nothing more than average. Alabama has played one team capable of throwing the ball and they got beat by them. The SEC is like everyone other conference, they have a couple of good teams, a few bad teams and a bunch of average in the middle.

The polls have got it about right. Okay, I don’t know who really thinks Notre Dame is the best team in the land, but they are undefeated for now. And other than that, you’ve got the top 10 dominated by SEC teams, the PAC 12 comes in second with several solid, well-coached teams, and the Big 10, ACC, and Big 12 have one or two flagship schools representing otherwise middling conferences.

get it right for crying out loud.
HEY JEFF WHY DO OTHERS HAVE TO DO YOUR WORK FOR YOU? OVERSIGNING IS THE PRIMARY REASON WHY THE SEC HAS RISEN TO THE TOP.
while saban is a good coach …. his stint in the nfl exposed the fact that when he has to play by the rules he no more than just an good coach…. not the great coach he appears to be in the college ranks. enter over signing…….
http://oversigning.com/testing/?s=saban+miles
saban and miles have signed more players than any other program over the last 10 years via over signing. it is NO coincidence that lsu and bama have resided as 1 and 2 in the bcs. they are also the worst at over signing by a wide margin. the sec as a conference is the worst by far.
for instance saban averages 27.5 players every year. gt on the other hand probably signs an average of 19. so over 4 years we sign 76 players and bama signs 115. a difference of 49 players. 50% more than gt every 4 years. 115/76=150%. the quantity of players is not the only issue.
of the 115 they sign every 4 years, they cherry pick the very best 85 and drive off the remaining 30 to grades, injury, malcontent, transfer etc etc. that is why the sec always seems to pull away in the 3d and 4th quarters of games against any other top programs not in the sec… tosu oklahoma fsu UGA etc. that is why they have won 5 nc in a row. as the article points out the sec commits this foul far more than any other conference.
they don’t have ’sec’ speed. they don’t have better coaching. they have better rosters top to bottom because of the over signing / cherry picking. that is why tosu got their butt kicked in the 2nd half by both uf and lsu. tosu and the big ten do not over sign. the acc does not over sign but for maybe fsu i think.
sec teams like bama and lsu end up with so much talent on their roster that the difference between 1st team an 3d team is marginal as compared to other programs. richt at uga does not over sign.
that is a huge reason why uga has fallen behind auburn, lsu, bama and now sc. sc under the ol ball sack now over signs. funny how sc pulled away from clemson last year in the 2nd half. that is a re occuring theme in any game bama lsu uf and now usc is involved in for the most part.
this is not the only result from the over signing. for example say the sec per team average is 105 players every 4 years. (probably high)
using this number means that the sec cans 20 players per team every 4 years in order to maintain the 85 schollie limit each year. a total of 12 x 20=240 players.
basically, the sec removes 240 of the best players from the talent pool of southern players that gt and other programs recruit from. that is why we cant recruit big uglies on the d and o. the sec hordes them all via over signing.
you may or may not remember but before we had the 85 scholarship rule. teams like bear bryant and bama would have 120+ plus players on the roster.
different method of cherry picking and hording players but the same end result. that is one of the reasons why coach dodd disliked bear bryant. dodd thought that player hording was immoral.
this really hurts teams like gt, vandy, acc, big 10, big east, pac10 …. tosu and yes even UGA.
UGA FANS…. look for bama to pull away from uga in the 3d and 4th quarter in 2 weeks exactly like it does to all teams that dont over sign.
yes the sec has the best fb conference no doubt and its not because they coach better or have sec speed. all teams have players with ’sec’ speed. they just horde more of them.
is the sec the best fb conference in the country as you ascribe to schultzie? hadly!
if you held a 100 yard dash for 100 runners and continued to give one athlete a 10 yard head start such that he kept winning most of the races… would anybody call him the fastest man in the world?
HELL NO.
the sec is a good conference dont get me wrong but remove oversigning and they become just another good conference among many.

Buckeye, your team is pretty much the reason the SEC has the reputation as the dominant conference in the first place. THE Ohio State University pummels the Big10 every year only to get beat down by SEC teams in the bowl games. Since you bring up 1980, I should mention you all haven’t beat an SEC in a bowl game since that magical year. Oh what about 2011 Sugar Bowl you say? Yeah that win was vacated, remember.

Guess what Ohio State’s record is against UGA? You guessed it: 0-1. Let’s do double or nothing. Guess what Ohio State’s record is against the SEC? Hint: its only win was vacated because of the improprieties of Old Mr. Sweater Vest. That’s right: 0-9. Ouch. Kind of hurts when you put it in perspective so I can certainly see why you are so bitter. What an overated program in the least. Pathetic.

How can anyone beat the SEC? They will only play cupcakes until the MNC. Basically the SEC only has to win one game a year keep convincing people that they are an unbeatable machine of a conference.

GTBob, you could look at the bowl game results each year when up to 8 SEC teams play all of the other conferences and win, despite the fact the SEC is usually handicapped by having to put up a 3rd place conf. team versus a 2nd place conf. team or a 5 v. 3 or something of the like. The SEC still wins the majority of the games. That’s how the SEC gets so much respect from the pollsters. We don’t have to play them during the season, we just beat em up in the bowls.

I am a Big 10 guy (MI) but am, unlike Buckeye, able to be intellectually honest with myself. “In order to be the champ…you got to BEAT the champ”. I want someone from outside the SEC to play the SEC champion to see if SOMEONE can knock them off. I do not see any way that a non-SEC team jumps over EITHER team that wins the SEC championship. And Buckeye…really dude, you guys have NEVER beaten an SEC team in a bowl game, and you are talking trash? Sounds like you got “stupid” tatooed on your brain and it did…you know…serious damage.

Here is the SEC’s formula for success:
1. Schedule as many weak OOC games as possible.
2. Top load the conference. Have 4-5 terrible teams that the top teams can beat up on.
3. Avoid tough games later in the season.
4. Have ESPN over inflate SEC teams in the rankings.
Its basically as simple as that. Its not a big coincidence that Alabama and UGA have played pretty weak schedules and are both going to make the SEC championship.

HEY JEFF WHY DO OTHERS HAVE TO DO YOUR WORK FOR YOU?
the sec is a good conference that uses an unfair advantage to hold onto the top spot. of course you will never see espn complain about it.
http://oversigning.com/testing/?s=saban+miles
saban and miles have signed more players than any other program over the last 10 years via over signing. it is NO coincidence that lsu and bama are often 1 and 2 in the bcs. they are also the worst at over signing by a wide margin. the sec as a conference is the worst by far.
for instance saban averages 27.5 players every year. gt on the other hand probably signs an average of 19. so over 4 years we sign 76 players and bama signs 115. a difference of 49 players. 50% more than gt every 4 years. 115/76=150%. the quantity of players is not the only issue.
of the 115 they sign every 4 years, they cherry pick the very best 85 and drive off the remaining 30 to grades, injury, malcontent, transfer etc etc. that is why the sec always seems to pull away in the 3d and 4th quarters of games against any other top programs not in the sec… tosu oklahoma fsu UGA etc. that is why they have won 5 nc in a row. as the article points out the sec commits this foul far more than any other conference.
they don’t have ’sec’ speed. they don’t have better coaching. they have better rosters top to bottom because of the over signing / cherry picking. that is why tosu got their butt kicked in the 2nd half by both uf and lsu. tosu and the big ten do not over sign. the acc does not over sign.
sec teams like bama and lsu end up with so much talent on their roster that the difference between 1st team an 3d team is marginal as compared to other programs. richt at uga does not over sign.
that is a huge reason why uga has fallen behind lsu, bama and now sc. sc under the ol ball sack now over signs. before spurrier started oversigning the gamecocks were strugglin. now they are a top ten team.
funny how sc pulled away from clemson in the 2nd half of last years game game isnt it? usc is to clemson as bama is to uga. all 4 teams have 4-5 star talent. only 2 of those teams over sign.
in 2 weeks look for uga to hold its own against bama for a half. it will be all bama after the half. it will have nothing to do with the adjustments that saban and staff made and everything to do with bama being the fresher team… the team with more overall talent.
this is not the only result from the over signing. for example say the sec per team average is 105 players every 4 years. (probably high)
using this number means that the bama for instance cuts 20 players every 4 years in order to maintain the 85 schollie limit each year. mutliply that number by the number of teams that oversign. that is the number of players that were held out of the talent pool.
basically, the sec hordes a large number of the best players from the talent pool of southern players that gt and other programs recruit from. that is why gt cant recruit big uglies on the d and o. the sec hordes them all via over signing.
you may or may not remember but before we had the 85 scholarship rule. teams like bear bryant and bama would have 120+ plus players on the roster.
different method of cherry picking and hording players but the same end result. that is one of the reasons why coach dodd disliked bear bryant. dodd thought that player hording was immoral.
this really hurts teams like gt, vandy, acc, big 10, big east, pac10 …. tosu and yes even UGA.
UGA FANS…. you have no chance in beating bama in two weeks. none.
yes the sec has the best fb conference no doubt and its not because they coach better or have sec speed. all teams have players with ’sec’ speed. they just horde more of them.
put another way….
if we held a 100 meter dash sprint for the top 100 sprinters in the country but we gave the same sprinter a 10 yard head start for each race. if he wins most of them is he the fastest man in the country?
HELL NO IS ISNT. he had an unfair advantage!
if we really want a national championship it is time for the ncaa to really crack down on over signing and level the playing field. all the bragging that sec fans do now is just so much false bravado no matter how much they say to the contrary ….

Ohio State is 2-10-1 against teams from the Southeastern Conference since 1936. They had two wins against Vandy and Kentucky in the thirties, 4-10-1 all time.
Ohio State is:
0-1 vs Georgia
0-1 vs Auburn
0-1 vs Tennessee
0-2 vs South Carolina
0-3 vs Alabama
1-1-1 vs. LSU
OSU did manage a last minute victory with ineligible players vs Arkansas.
Ohio State has only themselves to blame for NCAA probation and the fact is…..they have not beaten a team anywhere near the top 10 and have struggled to beat everyone else.
Alabama beat Michigan 41-14……..lets see how the buttnuts fare.

I am not a Tech fan but they did not back into the ACC CG. It’s not their fault that Miami and N Carolina cheated. Angry Clemson fan:
Who has Georgia beaten that gives them the right to play for the national title? Well, if they do make it to the title game, it will mean that they beat #2 Alabama. It would mean that they beat 2 seperate teams that were ranked # 2 at the time they played them. No other team in the entire country would have two wins against top 5 teams.
If Georgia beats tech and Bama and gets in, they certainly got lucky with OR losing and Ohio State being on probation, but just about every team can say that when they get in the nat. title game. Notre Dame was certainly luck to be Pitts. in 3 OT’s and really Pitt just collapsed in the 4th quarter. Bama was luck to get the Mulligan and play for the title despite not even playing in the conference championship last year. Georgia would deserve it as much as anyone if they beat Bama

Give me a break. Your analysis is very much exactly how the SEC fans argue.
All you do is evaluate the results of the top couple of teams. What about the REST of the conference?
Any conference strength needs to include ALL teams in the conference and not just the top. If you use this to analyze, the SEC really is no better or worse than most of the other conferences.

For those hating on GA Tech…..
First, if you are a jerk, forget it. There is no help for you.
However, GA Tech did not ask for UNC to be on probation. GA Tech did not ask for Miami to decline any post-season bowl. No one is claiming that GA Tech is the best team in the Coastal Division. However, the Coastal Division does have to send a team to the ACC Championship Game. And, GA Tech ends up being the representative.
If for any reason, GA Tech does defeat FSU, then GA Tech will go to the Orange Bowl. Again, do not hate on GA Tech or the ACC. These are the rules of the NCAA and the conference and that is just how it will have worked out. Is Clemson better? Is FSU better? Maybe. But that’s just the way it would work out.
Things like this have happened in other conferences, to include the SEC.

Not complaining, but
The problem is that due to the inflated rankings of the top SEC teams, 4-5 SEC teams are ranked in the preseason top 15 every year. Then they sort of beat each other up, with the top SEC teams taking 1 or 2 losses over the season. Now they can look at their presumably hard schedules and say, “Hey, look at all of the top teams that we have played.” If (insert conference here) is ranked so high before the games start, and that conference fares well outside their conference opponents, either by beating the one good non-conference team they play, or by beating cream puffs, then it should be understood that that conference’s top teams will still be at the top of the rankings when the season ends. I am not complaining here, just stating my opinion.

People should realize that the system is slanted in the SEC’s favor. All SEC 1-loss teams were rated above all other 1-loss teams last week. How is this fair? If the system makes the assumption that the SEC is the toughest conference, and ranks them accordingly, it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy, and all but guarantees that that conference will be represented in Every championship game.

hahahah. .media created SEC dominance. . . . right. right. The SEC is the best college football conference on the planet. Period. The end. Now, you can argue against that if you want, but I’d bet it has more to do with your own bias than any factual information. The SEC has the best players, the best recruiting, and the best coaches. No other conference even comes CLOSE. Will it always be this way? No. . some other team will have a great run or something and finish undefeated. And any team can beat a mighty SEC team on any given day. But getting through an ENTIRE SEC schedule is a different proposition entirely. Yes, Texas A&M beat Alabama, which some argue shows how overrated the conference is, but at the same time, they lost to two other SEC teams.
All Oregon or KSU had to do to be in the National Championship game was beat a good team at home and beat a not very good team on the road respectively. They didn’t.
As for Ohio St. . . . they should have decided to not play Arkansas, but they did anyway (beating arguably the 3rd best SEC team in the process), and now they’re paying the price for that. Granted, Michigan might get them anyway.

GTBob, what are you talking about with respect to the SEC’s non-conference scheduling? Besides in-state rivalry games, who in the ACC played a tough non-conference opponent this year? Let’s look at Florida State’s non-conference schedule: Murray State; Savannah State; South Florida. How about Clemson? Ball State; Furman; Auburn (worst team in the SEC, and Clemson won by a touchdown). Let’s take the “power” team from the Pac-12–Oregon: Arkansas State; Fresno State; Tennessee Tech. How about the top team from the Big 12–Kansas State: They played Missouri State, North Texas and Miami.
If the SEC teams are having BCS success, as you allege, by padding their non-conference schedules, then these schools from other conferences should be world-beaters with the horrific non-conference schedules they’re playing.
Regardless, if Georgia doesn’t deserve to play for the National Championship, then Alabama will make that clear for the entire country to see in a couple of weeks. On the other hand, if UGA can upset ‘Bama, it would have earned the right to play for all the marbles.

SEC is on top because it’s leadership in the 90s had the best money-making vision when all the BCS stuff and big TV contracts came out. Strategic planning, it’s called. All others are currently trying to copy and catch up. The SEC football teams at that time were really no better than any in the other conferences, but decades of $$$$$$ filling your billfold sure changes that. Money talks, BS walks.
So now we get stuff like Boise State (in the Mountain Time Zone) in the Big East, WV joining a Southern Plains conference (where no one has ever seen a mountaineer), and talk of MD (located on the Atlantic coast, last time I checked) wanting in a Midwest conference? And, all this SEC conference-rooting. Like the oncoming shift doing the Wal Mart cheer before starting work. You didn’t see this phenomenon until the 90s, either. They would have you believe that they are on top because it was just a matter of time–their school’s historical football prowess rises like cream? Sorry boys, it’s just that you usually get what you pay for. They should really be venerating Roy Kramer. And singing praises to the system of capitalism.

GT Bob:
The way the SEC gets “overated” is to be located in talent rich recruiting states, have 80,000 plus stadiums for 2/3 of the conference members, the most passionate fans, great coaches, and the most money to throw at their programs. It is as simple as THAT. Nobody else has the defensive linemen that the SEC has.
Lets take your points one at a time:
1.) Schedule weak out of confernce teams. Georgia has tech each year (well your point is taken there), but Florida plays Fl. State (the standard bearer of the ACC). Bama has played Mich and Penn State recently. LSU played OR. Georgia played OK State and AZ State recently. The SEC plays plenty of out of conference games. Ohio State plays Youngstown State and Bowling Green every year. Look at tech’s out of conference schedule (other than UGA, they don’t schedule much)
point one disproved
2.) Top load the conference: The SEC is very strong at the bottom. Look at perennial doormat Vandy. They are a stubborn tough team right now. I’m not saying they will challenge for the conference title, but Vandy can hold their own. TN is way down right now, but they fired their coach. Anyone want to go play TN in Neyland in front of 95,000 in three years? cupcake? not most years. Auburn was awful. They will fire their coach AFTER he won the national title two years ago! Auburn will be back and is a top 20 team 3 out of 5 years. Kentucky is terrible, I grant you that. Ole Miss and Ms State? Depends on the year, but they can be tough outs especially on the road. MO is new to the SEC, so we will have to wait and see. Ask a MO fan if there are just a couple of good teams in the SEC after the pounding that once proud program took at the hands of their new conference bretheren. Any of them saying the SEC is overated?
Point 2 disproved
3.) Avoid tough teams late in the season. Did you read this article? The SEC title game is held late in the season and is #2 vs. #3. Good thing Bama and UGA don’t have any tough games left, right? Florida still plays FSU (the class of the ACC). The three highest ranked SEC teams still have incredibly tough games left on their schedule with 1 or 2 to play.
Point three disproved
4.) Have ESPN overinflate your rankings. Unless I am mistaken, the coaches poll and the computer rankings aren’t owned by ESPN. Is it the SEC’s fault that K-State couldn’t beat Baylor? Is it the SEC’s fault that a one loss FSU team from the ACC is ranked 15th by the computers because the computers think so little of the ACC?
Can’t disprove a conspiracy theory like this one, but c’mon. If the ACC had won the last 6 national titles with four different programs, it would be tough to call them overated. The winner of the SEC title game is going to play for the national title and it is hard to come up with a sound argument for why they shouldn’t.

Why doesn’t your AD’s schedule games that will position its teams to compete for BCS championships?
Because its boring and hurts the game in general. In the most important weekend of the season not a single SEC team played a quality opponent. What a shocker.
GT Bob. . . Boring and hurts the game in general. Really? Hurts the game for who? The smaller schools who get a big payday to help their budget? The kids who play before the largest crowds they will probably ever play before. The big schools who get to increase their win totals that will help in National rankings because they want to position themselves for BCS titles? None of this is against NCAA nor conference rules. Again, other schools AD’s should adjust their scheduling accordingly. Don’t hate the players(schools);hate the game(system).

The Big Fat Blogger lets take it a little farther shall we…so its a system slanted to get a SEC team into the NC game….I guess its also slanted to ensure they have won the last 6 of these slanted games?
You got a point, and I must admit that I’m not a big college football fan, so I’m speaking as an unbiased fan,but I do watch and observe several (mainly big games) a year and I’m a little confused to how a team such as Georgia (oh, by the way, I always will support my home state teams) can get stomped by usc, but someone such as oregon can lose to a team that was also ranked in the top 15 by a few points in OT and completely get knocked out from any title contention, but yet all uga has to logically do is beat alabama to get into the title game? Just doesn’t make sense; sure, there are more teams in the sec ranked in the top 15 than any other conference, but the sec also has more teams (maybe only the acc has just as much), statistics will say that an sec team would be also automatically in the top 3 year in and year out….. With the dominate emphasis put on the sec every year, (particularly due to media hype) will get the southern breed guys from this region, which makes sense, but it’s kind of a cake walk when each team in the sec (with the exception of maybe 2 different teams each year) only have to play hard in one, two, or maybe three games each year in order to have a great chance at a national title.

Now, you have Urban Lier, the most two faced, sneaky, dishonest, but very good coach to lead your team back to the BCS, only to have another SEC team embarrass you again. Just live with it. Come on Schultzie — I’ve written several columns on the oversigning issue and I agree it’s a factor in the rise of certain schools. But it’s only A factor, not the factor. It starts with having the best coaches in the country and better players are naturally drawn to those coaches. The visibility of the programs and conference also help. That said, oversigning is a terrible thing, as I’ve written several times.

SEC football is King. Anyone arguing otherwise is ignorant. The rich get richer. There is much more money in stadiums, facilities, and coaching salaries. That being said… It also shows that most “fans” simply care about these things only.
Character, Integrity, Academics, etc. don’t generate the big dollars. So SEC is king of football. But they also have their Lane Kiffin, Bobby Petrino, Alabama coaches at strip clubs, # of UGA players on parole, basket weaving degrees, brawling off campus, throwing rocks at cars, … Guess that is what it takes to be the best.
For me, I am proud of the Georgia Institute of Technology and the degree that I have and the standards that we strive to attain. I want to win a NC every year like everyone else. But not at the cost of the above. Oh yeah, we have won a NC since UGA won their’s.

How many ACC teams are currently on probation? How many Big 10 teams? And you want to throw stones at the SEC and say football is all WE care about? Obviously, cheating is a national problem and even more so at some conferences than others. No on in the SEC is backing into the championship game because 33% of their division is running scared from the NCAA. Hypocrite.

Buckeye,
Agree with you that OSU has played some very big out of conference games and understand that OSU had to cancel with Georgia because of scheduling issues. Georgia plays LSU again next year and will be playing Bama in two weeks. Was supposed to play Bama two months ago and the SEC expanded. Georgia got lucky.
OSU’s out of conference this year includes the juggernauts, Miami OHIO, Central Florida, Cal, Alabama BIRMINGHAM as well as a pretty weak Big 10 conference.
OSU plays only 2 teams # 13 and #19 in the current BCS top 20 this year. Georgia plays #2, #4, and #12 this year and it is Georgia’s weakest schedule in two decades, yet look at it compared to OSU.

What really makes me laugh is how every year, they come on these blogs acting like they own UGA and keep saying how they are going to win. Then, when they lose, out come the excuses! Enjoy ending up 6-8 after your little bowl game that will be attended by maybe 10,000 people. Love the jealousy Tech has over UGA.

Beast from the East,
I specifically didn’t address NCAA violations and probations. That is way too big of a topic and is not conference specific.
My point is when Money gets too big then it takes precedence in your decision making. Major college athletic budgets (of which much of the SEC is the largest) are “to big to fail”. That is why you see character and integrity get pushed aside if money is at stake. Examples… Petrino hired mid-season without following long time, professional protocols with the NFL. Auburn interviewing a new coach when they haven’t fired the one that they have. Lane Kiffin messing up UT for one year then jumping to USC for more money and no punishments for his deeds. USC showed no integrity hiring Kiffin knowing of the NCAA violations and what it would do to UT. Not saying SEC is alone in this. But they are the biggest football (thus money) conference and are guilty.
BTW… When you say something that evokes name calling, then you always know that you hit a nerve of truth. Always gets the angriest reactions.

C’mon guy. It’s always about the money and it’s no different at GT. There was a good piece on 60 Minutes last night about it. Actually was very informing. Pretty shortsighted on your part. If all your opponents lose, then you have the nation’s weakest SOS–and no respect at all. A real fan should want all his team’s opponents to win–except when his team plays them. That’s how you build your ranking and earn national respect.

F$U and Clemson are just waiting for the chance to head for the SEC or Big 12. Miami is dumpster fire, so the only real strong football school left would be Va Tech. Nobody will bid for the TV rights for a few schools in three states with no real big markets. It’ll become a weak version of this years Big 12, and eventually the SEC, Big Ten, and Big 12 will grab the survivors to become the superleagues, along with the Pac-12, who will grab the biggest markets of the MWC to fill out their league.

Georgie tek has not only lost 10 of 11 games vs Mark Richt but has lost 10 in a row to FSU teams who put up at least a 10-Win season that year, too.
# 36 national university and # 38 in wins starting 1957, Georgie tek also has not won a Major Bowl Game starting 1957 either.
A 2 Touchdown DOG, Georgie tek LOST to 5-6 Virginia Tech, LOST to 6-5 Miami of Florida going on NCAA PROBATION like Georgie tek is on this day, November 20, 2012, LOST to 6-5 BYU who is great because Notre Dame beat them 17-14 but Georgie tek LOST to BYU 17-41 here in Atlanta, got blown-out by Clempsum Farmers who have not beat a single team ranked in any top 25 poll all season long and who finish their season with that distinction even without my hero Marcus Lattimore, and LOST to Middle Tennessee college, who the week after they too beat Georgie tek, LOST themselves to Louisiana Monroe.
# 115 Passing Offense, I am told on these blogs, their Quarterback ? Vad Lee is a great passer with his 20 completions the entire stinking miserable season for Georgie tek for a grand total of 3 TD Passes.
# 61 Total Defense
# 76 Scoring Defense

6-5 Georgie tek loses 50-9 to UGA Saturday at our house

Ohio State has NEVER beat an SEC team in a bowl game.
Ohio State has ALREADY LOST to The SEC in 2012, losing to 6-6 unranked Florida Gators.
11 times Ohio State has played The SEC in bowl games. 11 times. Ohio State has 0 wins over The SEC in bowl games, all-time, ever.
It is just as well that Ohio State is not playing in a bowl game because with 5 of the top 10 teams in the BCS Poll, in the Coaches’ Poll, in the Harris Poll, Ohio State would most definitely being playing an SEC team 2012 in their bowl game, again. And, LOSE again.
Ohio State plays a Michigan team who has beat no one. This ends Ohio State’s season and takes them out of their misery having to face-off and LOSE yet again in a bowl game vs The SEC.
Wisconsin the other Big 10 Conference CHUMPionship Opponent, like Clempsum Farmers, have not beat a single team in any top 25 poll, either.
Illinois is 2-9.
Penn State, also on NCAA PROBATION in FOOTBALL 2012 like Georgie tek, like Miami of Florida, like North Carolina on NCAA PROBATION in FOOTBALL 2012, like Ohio State on NCAA PROBATION in FOOTBALL – all for CHEATING to gain a competitive advantage for 2012, and Penn State ? Who has Penn State beat in any top 25 poll ? No one.
Purdue is 5-6.
Indiana is 4-7.
Nebraska QUIT the Big XII to join the Big 10, neither of whom can count. That’s the BCS top-ranked Big 10 team at # 14.
Michigan State, sparty, is 5-6.
UAB is 3-8.
California is 3-9.
UCF just lost to Tulsa last week and has beat no team in any top 25 poll.
And, Miami of Ohio is 4-7.
For this Ohio State is supposed to be a ranked team 2012 ?
Who the hell did Ohio State beat ? Good thing that PRETENDER did not get to play The SEC in bowl game again, to lose again, as they ALWAYS DO to The SEC in bowl games.
While the rest of the college football world has all these big games ahead, we’re supposed to rank the Ohio State CHEATERS in the polls for what is summarized of their year 2012 in this post ?
________________________________________________
OHIO STATE 2012 IS OVER-RATED having beat NO ONE

South Carolina, without my hero Marcus Lattimore, is a 4-point dog on the road where they’ve lost both of their games this season, against hapless Clempsum Farmers who have not beat a single team all 2012 season long against any team in any top 25 poll, even. The betting trend on this game 4 days before the 7pm kick-off is 74 percent on South Carolina. Bank on it.
Florida on the road where they lost their only game all season long (some road game at the stadium where they play the Gator Bowl every year since 1946), was a TD dog and now down to 6-point dog to FSU who represents the all-cupcake-conference, including themselves. Jeff Driskel is obviously supposed to play which explains the line changing and coming down. FSU has beat no team who made any top 25 poll all season long, except for Clempsum Farmers who have beat no team making any top 25 poll either. Florida has already beat # 7 LSU, # 9 Texas A and M and # 12 South Carolina, by direct comparison with lowly Florida State. Obviously, the stinking All Cupcake Conference cannot even come up with their teams for their bowl games’ commitments. That’s how bad the ACC is, which is obvious from the ACC’s teams and who’ve they’ve beat in the top 25 of any poll today. None of them have beat anyone in any poll all season long, bar none. That’s a sucker bet to think Florida State even wins this game, let alone covers the line. FSU fans are starved and believe the hype that Las Vegas set them at – 6 tonight. That is because Las Vegas knows that will get the maximum number of suckers at FSU to crawl out of the woodwork that they will beat the # 4 team in the nation. Uh huh. Yeah, right. A 3-2 advantage over FSU through the years, FSU has LOST every game to Florida in years in which they put-up at least 9 wins – since the very day Mark Richt LEFT Florida State. It ain’t changing this season, either. Florida is going to end the season a lot better than 9-Win Season. Florida looks to go 12-1 on the season, and clearly ends up at least # 3 in the final polls, which will be all that is published for 2012, as it should be. Florida stands a great chance of ending the season higher ranked than the only team to beat them; and, has an outside chance to play either Georgia again or Alabama in the BCS National Championship Game, if Notre Dame loses on the road to 4-loss now, unranked in any poll, Southern California. If Notre Dame loses, Florida absolutely will play for the BCS NC Title Game against the Winner of The SEC Championship Game. I don’t think Southern California or any of the PAC-12 are any good whatsoever; but, I know that # 4 Florida, # 3 UGA, and # 2 Alabama are all 3 waiting in the wings salivating at playing Notre Dame without an Aaron Murray to beat them, especially with a Todd Gurley, an Alec Ogletree and a Jarvis Jones. Notre Dame is in so over their heads as they always are bowl games. Notre Dame has not won a National Championship since 1988. They have a special bye in the BCS Rankings, and thus refused to JOIN THE ACC in FOOTBALL. They want to keep ALL THEIR REVENUE while they call their team a Team of Destiny 2012 for beating a 4-6 Pitt team in triple overtime. The ACC is going to have their annual ACC CHUMPionship Game again 2012 going into the game with ALL THE PARTICIPANTS THERETO, having just LOST to The SEC before said ACC CHUMPionship Game. But, at least FSU beat Notre Dame in the bowl game last season to give Notre Dame a LOSING BOWL RECORD.
Oregon at Oregon State, who cares ?
Mizzou 5-6 as I guaranteed before the season started at Texas A and M who is a 22-point pick.
Okie State at Choklahoma who has beat no one, who cares ?
Stanford at UCLA ? Who cares ?
Rutgers at 4-6 Pittsburgh ? Who cares ?
Wisconsin at Penn State, whoever loses has 5-Loss before their mutual annual bowl losses in the Big 10 ? Who cares ?
Georgie tek at Georgia 12pm. 13-point spread and still 83 percent of the betting is on UGA. Duh. They should have made it 41-point spread since it will be 50-9. Maybe someone would bet on Georgie tek soon to be 6-8 for the season after they lose their 8th bowl game in a row, after they lose in the ACC Championship Game since they have NEVER WON the ACC Championship Game, and after they lose to Mark Richt to be 1-11 against our coach. Did I mention the # 36 national university is # 38 in won/lost starting 1957, has won no Major Bowl Game starting 1957 and is on NCAA Probation back-to-back in FOOTBALL 2012, again ? I forget.
Michigan at Ohio State ? Might as well watch Akron Zits at Toledo.

Never before in the history of the BCS has such an undisciplined gang of illiterates, thugs, illegal drug users, woman-beaters, public urinators, drunks, jailbirds, and low-life morons come so close to backing into the title game. Fortunately for the integrity of the game, Alabama will send these pretenders and their low-rent fantards running back to their mobile home parks and wretched welfare existence.

Pithy, summarized for you :

And, is spared the embarrassment of losing to SEC again in bowl game, for which we are supposed to move Ohio State UP in the polls ? I don’t think so.

What are you talking about bowl games for anyway ?
19-24 your bowl record.
26-18-3 UGA Bowl Record for one of the best in the nation, and this season with our got it going on team here today now, we’re going to increase that to 27-18-3 for 48 bowl games played for a 61.46 Bowl Winning Percentage, also among the nation’s best, while little Ohio State has only played in 43 bowl games, 5 bowl games FEWER than us and 8 Bowl Games won fewer than us, for a Bowl LOSING percentage of 0.45
It matters not what topic you bring up, Ohio State is on the short end of the stick whatever you come running in here to discuss, such as especially who it is Ohio State has played this season, beating no one and season over just when the nation’s best football programs play our most meaningful games, while you sit at home, picking on UGA for being # 3 and in the play-in game representing The SEC in the BCS National Championship Title Game.
Your points are weak, and those of a child. And, you act like a child, trolling our blog about your team who CANNOT EVEN PLAY IN A BOWL GAME while you watch the big boys play. Try acting like an adult on our blogs, for just one day. It’s Holiday Season now. Give us a present and act like you’re not a petulant child – for once. Give us a break. You cannot really enjoy posting on our blog having your hat handed to you, OUCH, while your only reply to-date on ANY of the replies, is to hide your head in the sand and act like you didn’t read the reply to your lousy attempts to change the topic of the blog to be about Ohio State, who NO ONE IN THE NATION IS EVEN TALKING ABOUT, having beat no one. I’m sorry. I will say in years past the SEC has been the best conference but this year no way. Because of past history the SEC’s always get a preseason favorable ranking and then because they beat up on each other they hardly drop. the problem this year is the teams are just not any better than most teams from the rest of the country. How about for once an SEC team go on the road and play a tough non-conference and better yet in Nov or Dec up North where it’s cold. All bowl games played in warm weather and always in an SEC schools backyard.

Ohio State claims 7 national championships, so Georgia can match that 2012 – thus, the dominating tactics to change the topic to his school.
http://www.sicemdawgs.com/football/fb_his.php
Ohio State is 2nd among Big 10 football teams in Conference CHUMPionships. Then, they are unvictorious in 11 attempts against The Mighty SEC in Bowl Games.
One of the nation’s worst Bowl Winning Percentages at 0.45, Ohio State is not allowed to play in any post-season or any bowl games this season.
Only played in 43 bowl games, and sits and watches as the top teams notch yet another bowl game advantage over Ohio State in this category as well.
LOSING RECORD 6-7 last year, Florida added to their misery a 6-6 team who BEAT Ohio State to KEEP Ohio State WINLESS vs The SEC in bowl games, all-time.
The year before last Ohio State was 0-1. No wins, I loss. Their media guide is under NCAA Scrutiny now for stating they were 0-0, but under NCAA Sanctions, Ohio State is NOT ALLOWED to print ANYTHING with any discussion of ANY WIN all 2010. They are however SADDLED with any loss. Ohio State is 0-1 for 2010 having LOST to Wisconsin, who LOST their bowl game, too.
This marks the 1st time in Ohio State history that they won 0 games for a season, unlike Georgie tek who has accomplish this distinction 7 times to-date with more to come.
Lying, Cheating Football Coaches are strung to no end in Ohio State’s sordid history in this sport. There was Woody Hayes, Jim Tressel, now Urban Meyer. Woody Hayes, you recall hit a football player on the field, during the game. Jim Tressel, you recall was told not to play the 5 Ohio State football players against Arkansas in their Bowl Game 2010 because they had accepted tattoos in consideration of Ohio State Official uniforms. Instead, as you recall, Jim Tressel had his famous press conference where he denied having any prior knowledge of any of this. Then, of course, we found his e-mail about it discussing it. Hiding it. Covering it all up. He resigned. Woody Hayes was kicked-off the team and out of college football for his actions to a college kid.
Fast forward to Jim Tressel’s replacement, none other than my Doctor said I only have a little while to live, that my heart is bad, that I want to spend my remaining days on this earth with my family, and quit Florida – since he knew how bad Florida was going to be. Yeah, 6-6. Then, they get to play Ohio State in their bowl game, also 6-6, and beat them. Duh. How fitting.
Now, he’s going to be the head coach at Ohio State forever. Live to be 108. Coach until he’s 108 at Ohio State. No palpitations from his heart. That all ended overnight. All he needed was to see the only team on his schedule is # 14 Nebraska. So, off to Ohio State and $ 4 million dollars a year to coach against CUPCAKES, not one good opponent to play.
1942 is one of the years Ohio State claims a national championship in. Paul E. Brown their coach. The AP Poll was taken before the bowl games were played. Ohio State did NOT EVEN PLAY IN A BOWL GAME IN 1942, not invited. There were 5 bowl games and 10 teams who were invited to play in bowl games 1942, and Ohio State WAS NOT 1 OF THE 10.
Frank Sinkwich and The Georgia Bulldogs SHUT-OUT in the Rose Bowl , UCLA 9-0 and after the bowl games, all these polls selected UGA, not Ohio State BEFORE THE BOWL GAMES which Ohio State was not even invited to : Berryman, DeVold, Houlgate System, Litkenhous, Poling System, and the Williamson System Polls said UGA is NC 1942.
Ohio State claims it yet, this is one of the 5 years’ Ohio State did NOT EVEN PLAY IN A BOWL GAME while we did, and WON. Ohio State NC 1942, my backside.

GRAVEYARD OF COACHES – OHIO STATE

Woody Hayes beat out Paul Brown to be the head coach at Ohio State 1951. Both demanding and aggressive, Woody Hayes was hated by his players. Woody Hayes’ demonstrated his violent and hostile personality from the day he beat out Paul Brown for the head coaching job at Ohio State, alienating MANY Ohio State players. Ohio State University, bane of college football,
IGNORED WOODY HAYES’ PERSONALITY.
In 1955, 4 years later, Woody Hayes to SPORTS ILLUSTRATED buckeye loves to come in here and MIS-QUOTE, interviewed Woody Hayes, and he ADMITTED TO SI THAT HE GAVE MONEY TO HIS PLAYERS. Still, the 1954 NC Ohio State also claims, is left intact. BS. And, instead, 1957 Ohio State won another of their 7 claimed national championships. You might recall Auburn won the national championship 1957, not CHEATING Ohio State PAYING THEIR PLAYERS THEIR OWN BATTLE-AXE COACH ADMITTED TO SPORTS ILLUSTRATED.

___________________________________________________________________
Oh, I missed that. You missed what ?
9-1 Ohio State and Woody Hayes was in 1957, back when a 10-Win season meant something. Ohio State LOST in 1957. But, it is supposed to be some big deal 2012 that UGA lost, according to buckeye – but, not according to anyone else but buckeye.
10-0 Auburn 1957 but Ohio State claims national championship, with a LOSS only 9-1 back when 10-Win Seasons meant something.
AP Poll says Auburn 1957 is the national champions. Obviously. 10-0. Auburn. 9-1 Ohio State 1957.
___________________________________________
1961 again MORE CONTROVERSY for OHIO STATE
___________________________________________
What else is new ?
Growing conflict between academics and athletics over Ohio State’s reputation as a “football school” resulted in a faculty council vote to decline an invitation to the Rose Bowl, resulting in much public protest and debate. Over the next 6 seasons Ohio State finished poorly, and had a losing season in 1966, and public speculation that Hayes would be replaced as coach grew to its highest point since 1953.
The National Football Foundation named Ohio State its national champion for 1970 before the BOWL GAMES, AGAIN.
Ohio State LOST THEIR BOWL GAME
AGAIN, 17-27 but are nc ? I don’t THINK SO.
Archie Griffin won the Heisman Trophy in both 1974 and 1975, but Ohio State LOST BOTH THOSE BOWL GAMES, too.
As per always with Ohio State.

No palpit ations from his heart.

Woo dy Hayes beat out Paul Brown to be the head coach at Ohio State 1951. Both demanding and aggressive, Woody Hayes was hated by his players. Woo dy Hayes’ demonstrated his vio lent and hos tile personality from the day he beat out Paul Brown for the head coaching job at Ohio State, alienating MANY Ohio State players. Ohio State University, bane of college football,
IGNORED WOO DY HAYES’ PERSONALITY.
In 1955, 4 years later, Woo dy Hayes to SPORTS ILLUSTRATED buckeye loves to come in here and MIS-QUOTE, interviewed Woo dy Hayes, and he ADMITTED TO SI THAT HE GAVE MONEY TO HIS PLAYERS. Still, the 1954 NC Ohio State also claims, is left intact. BS. And, instead, 1957 Ohio State won another of their 7 claimed national championships. You might recall Auburn won the national championship 1957, not CHEATING Ohio State PAYING THEIR PLAYERS THEIR OWN BAT TLE-AXE COACH ADMITTED TO SPORTS ILLUSTRATED.

The SEC is the “center” of the known football universe. The rest of the conferences “revolve” around us. We rule you, we own you, we dictate to you. You are subservient to us. Subordinates, who try to immulate and copy us. We start the trends that you follow. One day, we will have an off year and some deserving team outside the SEC will win, but the SEC will rise again and again, because we are what football is about and everyone else want to be just like us, winners, not whiners…

You were indeed “maligning” Auburn’s title as if it was a fluke. I pointed out that going 14-0 is impossible for a team that isn’t great. Auburn’s 2010 team was the best in the country by far. Cam did spend a small amount of time at Auburn but who cares? It’s not like Cam was going to med school. Quit pretending football players are anything but football players.
“I have no interest in Urban’s SEC! SEC! actions other than the fact that he won 2 NC’s’

NFL teams consistently say that the SEC gets players ready for the next level. Before last year, other conf. had a chance, but couldn’t beat SEC teams. More people tune in to watch SEC games on TV. So
why wouldn’t we be considered the best?
Yes, if UGA does happen to win it all, other schools would continue to rub 7 straight in the face of others. Yes other schools would pull for UGA over ND.
