Is it time for a rare dirge at SEC headquarters?

Not quite.

Three non-SEC teams — Kansas State, Oregon, Notre Dame — top the BCS rankings. This is the equivalent of a Big Foot sighting – or maybe three of them. But there’s still a possibility that the winner of the SEC championship game in the Georgia Dome between Georgia and Alabama will wind up in the BCS championship game.

Will SEC get a team to the BCS title game?

Loading ... Loading ...

SEC schools have won six straight BCS titles. In short, two of the three undefeated teams ahead of Georgia and Alabama have to lose for a chance to make it seven. And that could happen.

Here’s how I see it breaking down:

No. 1 Kansas State (10-0).

Schedule: at Baylor (4-5), vs. BCS No. 15 Texas (8-2)

Recap: The Wildcats will beat Baylor. The Bears can score a ton of points but their defense can’t hold up against a Sun Belt team. Texas has lost to its two strongest opponents this season, West Virginia (48-45) and Oklahoma (63-21), and both were home games. But the Longhorns are 4-0 on the road this season and they won at Texas Tech 31-22 a week ago. The biggest obstacle to a Texas upset: Its defense hasn’t been able to stop the run all season, allowing 200 yards per game. Rushing is the strength of the Kansas State offense (213.6). Kansas State also is helped by the fact that there is no Big 12 championship game this season because the defections of Nebraska and Colorado dropped the conference under the mandated minimum of 12 teams for a conference title game.

Bottom line: Barring an unexpected meltdown, Kansas State will be in the BCS title game.

Chip Kelly's "Quack Attack" will have a hard time staying unbeaten the next three weeks. (AP photo)

No. 2 Oregon (10-0).

Schedule: vs. BCS No. 13 Stanford, at BCS No. 16 Oregon State, Pacific 12 Conference title (if necessary).

Recap: The Ducks are averaging nearly 55 points a game. That can cover up a lot of deficiencies. But USC is the highest ranked team Oregon has played this season, and the Ducks barely escaped 62-51. Stanford took Notre Dame to overtime earlier this season in South Bend before losing. Last week the Cardinal upset Oregon State. Stanford can run the ball and, therefore, control the clock and keep Oregon’s offense off the field. So this game has upset potential. Similarly, the Ducks’ game against rival Oregon State in Corvallis won’t be easy. The Beavers have the second-lowest scoring defense in the conference (19.1) and are accustomed to seeing Oregon’s offense. The Ducks have won the last two meetings in Corvallis but prior to that Oregon State had won five straight. Even if Oregon gets through both of those games, the team still has to win the conference championship game (against USC or UCLA).

Bottom line: With potentially three difficult games, it says here Oregon will lose one of them.

Brian Kelly's team still must win at USC.

Brian Kelly's team has won 10 straight but still must find a way to win at USC. (AP photo)

No. 3 Notre Dame (10-0)

Schedule: vs. Wake Forest, at BCS No. 18 USC.

Recap: This is the wild card. The Irish will walk all over Wake Forest, which has lost five of its last eight and just got drilled by North Carolina State 37-6. The question is what happens in the USC game in two weeks, and Georgia or Alabama fans could be in the uncomfortable position of rooting for Lane Kiffin in that game. The Trojans’ defense has slipped significantly but Notre Dame is not an overpowering offensive team. Also, while the Irish won in Los Angeles two years ago, this series has been dominated by the Trojans since 2002, with nine wins in the last 10 meetings. Expect this game to tip on a turnover.

Bottom line: Maybe this is just the part of me that has a difficult time visualizing no SEC team in the BCS title game. But USC will upset Notre Dame.

Agree or disagree? The digital venting lines are open and we’ve put up a poll.

Hey, moving pictures! (And why Georgia can beat Alabama)

I love to put things into perspective.(no, that’s not my girlfriend!) Come on folks, lighten-up. We still have a chance for a GREAT SEASON! Don’t let the trolls convince you that one game makes or breaks a season.(unless you just got blowed out by UF by a ga-zillion points and you know, once again, you are going to watch the SEC-CG again at home curled-up in the fetal-position, sucking your thumb, watching UGA play as Champions of the east ….again. Man, talk about one gam ruining your season, lol) …that’s sad, really sad…Anybody got any tissues???

I agree that Kansas St will probably go undefeated and that Notre Dame has a decent chance of losing. Oregon is not losing to Stanford or Oregon St though. That is wishful thinking. Even last year with a much better team Stanford couldn’t come close to stopping Oregon. It is probably going to be a Kansas St/Oregon National Championship.

I think all three have about as good a chance–albeit a relatively small one–as each other of losing one the rest of the way. The Ducks’ porous defense could prove to be a chink in their armor, but that’s mostly wishful thinking on my part.

This UGA fan wishes that Dawg fans would just hush up about the BCSCG stuff. We shot our wad in Columbia, SC. As always, we lost a game we should have been at least competitive in. Again.
We still have a chance at a great year if we take care of business in Athens the next 2 Saturdays, and then play our best game of the year in the Dome. We would then likely have Notre Dame in the Sugar Bowl, and a chance at a 13-win season.
But, enough with the putting other teams’ schedules down – hey, take a look at ours.
Bama will only be our 3rd ranked team of the whole season . . .

Thomas, if you sincerely belive that the SEC champion plays in the nationla title game no matter what you are seriously mistaken. There are three unbeaten teams ahead the SEC chamionship winner, who will have at least one loss. Since none of those teams is from a non-qualifying converence, the SEC champion will not jump past them, period. As things now stand the SEC Championship matchup is 4 vs. 5. How do you imagine that gets a bump past 1, 2, or 3, all of whom are unbeaten at this point?
By the way, your comments to Nikki show a complete lack of class on our part, not to mention the ignorance of your statement that Virginia is in the North. Virginia fought on the side of the Confederacy, you can look it up.

The truth is that Bama, who has all of the sudden become “human” the last couple of weeks, didn’t play one of the top three teams in the East this year, barely made it past LSU, who at times hasn’t looked all that great this year (beating Auburn 12-10), and then lost to the 16th ranked team in the country at home. I’m sorry, I just don’t see all this “UGA has a snowball’s chance in hell” as being very realistic. I expect a very good game. Seriously, go look at Alabama’s schedule this year. Michigan was supposed to be a big game — they suck. Arkansas sucks. Auburn sucks. Tennessee sucks. LSU, who got slaughtered by a very weak Florida team (Louisiana-Lafayette?), is the only team worth a damn that Bama has beaten. At the very least they’ll be getting a Georgia team that’s finally clicking on all cylinders. I’m just glad to repeat as East champs and that we (true UGA fans) get to watch an extra game again this year. Whatever happens in the SECCG, we need to finish with a bowl WIN this year :-) And, we’re gonna have another fantastic recruiting class going into next season. It’s great to be a Georgia Bulldog!!

God Bless you, Coach Richt. God Bless Georgia. Go Dawgs!!!!!!!

I can’t see a one loss SEC team getting in over an unbeaten. If so then I could possibly see Bama slipping in over ND but not Georgia. Bama had a very close loss against an A&M that is on a roll. They could just as easily have won that game.

But if Georgia beats Bama I can’t see them slipping past one unbeaten like ND. Reason being their one loss was a horrendous loss and their schedule was one of the weakest in the nation. That is what hurts Georgia.

Now if they were to beat the hell out of Alabama then they could skip an unbeaten ND. But that aint gonna happen. Only way Georgia can win that game is if they have the same formula LSU and A&M had. They would need to play turnover free and penalty free football in order to win and hope Bama has several turnovers. That’s the only way they could beat Bama. Hell that’s the only way LSU played em close and the only way TAM could win. Play perfect and hope the other team turns the ball over several times.

“I KNOW THESE 4 THINGS FOR SURE…(don’t ask me how, I just do…)

#3. Once again, we will not be prepared for a “big-game” and find ways to lose to a Bama team that could be beaten if we played 60 minutes football. We will give them at least 15-30 minutes head start…(I know this because I hate history and it has a tendency to repeat itself. It’s not that we can’t win, its that we will be tight and seemingly unprepared…)
#4. After #3,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,#4 just won’t matter…”
_______________________________________
I wish you were wrong about # 3 too kingdaddy. I don’t expect us to win every big game, and while no one considered Florida a great or even good team 2012, they have gone out and beat # 7 LSU, # 8 Texas A & M and # 9 South Carolina; winning that game therefore was very important. It does not mean that we did beat # 7 # 8 and # 9 ourselves; but, it does mean that we beat the team who did. # 2 at game time # 6 now in the BCS, and has a shot at ending up in the only published polls for 2012 ahead of us, although we stretched out our lead over Florida with our 38 to nothing thrashing Saturday. 38-10 over Ole Miss was another example that we might not lose to Bama. 50-9 over Georgie tek and 32-17 or something like that over Georgia Southern University would be further proof; but until we get in the game with Alabama, stand up on snap # 1 and move the football, there is no proof to-date other than Florida, really, that we can complete with teams who are great. There is no doubt that Florida 2012 has had a great season. Florida has shown they, too, have issues all season long. But, they beat # 7 # 8 and # 9. You have to give them credit for that. Our game with them was close, to say the least. We ruined their season, and our throttling of The SEC teams the last 2 weeks after beating Florida, gives some hope.

There are a good dozen or so Bulldogs’ fans on this blog who say about the same as you here, and hold-out some hope. I-95 even says he feels our PLAYERS could beat Alabama.

SEC Championship Game is AFTER all the other games.
Results of Notre Dame Southern California will be known before our kick-off
Results of Oregon Southern California # 2 will be known before our kick-off
Results of Oregon Stanford will be known before our kick-off
Results of Oregon Oregon State will be known before our kick-off
Results of PAC-12 CHUMPionship game are Friday 8pm E & Saturday SEC
Results of Texas Kansas State will be known

OBVIOUSLY, THERE COULD BE A LOT RIDING ON SEC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME COMING A DAY AFTER PAC-12 CHUMPionship Game.

Either, way, the team who wins The SEC Championship Game plays in the BCS Title Game.

(1) Bama would have beat # 5 UGA # 7 LSU
(2) UGA would have beat # 6 FL and # 4 AL

Anyone who thinks there is no BUMP-UP for that, also has not studied history because “ranked teams” is all Oregon, Kansas State and Notre Dame can discuss and yes those ranked teams are most likely going to end up in that fatal final BCS Poll at # 21, # 23 and # 24 by direct comparison.

________________________________________________________
OREGON KANSAS STATE NOTRE DAME NO WINS VS BC TOP 10
________________________________________________________

In this Final BCS Poll, it is where the other teams are ranked in The Top 10 in that poll which will matter the most. Not just for computer polls, but for the beauty pageant which is the BCS 2-team play-off for the Title.

There is NO DOUBT we are in the DISCUSSION and there is no doubt that it will continue to get more and more DISCUSSION between now and Saturday December 1, not Friday night for the PAC-12 CHUMPionship Game.

The entire focus of the college football world will be on Alabama vs UGA and we’ve done better against Alabama than any other team in history, although way too many of the games have been in Tuscaloosa.

Since this is the hand which is dealt to us, I will take our chances. This is all I ever asked for. Not to beat all the top teams; no one can do that. Just not to lose all them; which everyone can do. We beat Florida.

The SEC has NOT slipped 2012. This is our finest hour, ever. Never in our STORIED HISTORY, has The SEC EVER had 6 of the top 9 in any poll, let alone the BCS Poll.

63 games to-date Georgia vs Alabama, and Alabama has won only 36. Of those 63 games, 38 have been home games for Alabama. Of the 25 home games for us, Alabama has won only 14. I say only because this is the best record of any team in the nation ever in the history of college football against Alabama. Of all teams to play with all Alabama’s freshmen playing key starting positions, Alabama wants to play Georgia the least. Our entire roster will end up in the NFL. We are not a young team compared to them. We lose 15 senior starters and the Juniors could follow suit after 2012 as well, with us facing LSU next season. A lot depends on our 2013 recruiting class picking up some top recruits on both lines and secondary and linebackers and a quarterback and a running back and a fullback and some wide receivers.

There is MUCH AT STAKE.

I would not exactly say that Alabama was prepared for Johnny Football running through them and throwing over them; and, make no mistake about it, the hurry-up and Johnny Football beat Alabama.

Notre Dame certainly has no Aaron Murray. Oregon Notre Dame and Kansas State stand to lose between now and kick-off against Alabama. In 1980, there was much consternation about who we would play. When it settled in on over-rated Notre Dame, all of us knew; but, even then what would that do in the Final Polls, was the question since it was obvious Notre Dame would drop nearly out of the top 10 maybe.

This game with Alabama is different.

Alabama plays in these games ALL THE TIME. We do NOT. This 2012 is our BEST CHANCE. A 1-year window.

For lots of reasons, we REALLY need this.

Just like we did against Florida.

The college football world for the 1st time in the Mark Richt era, will have ALL EYES UPON US AT THE END OF THE SEASON us against Alabama.

We beat Alabama BETTER THAN ANYONE. Honestly, Aaron Murray is a better quarterback than AJ McCarron now, after leading us to the TD to begin the Florida game, and just putting this team on his back and WILLING US to the end zone to put Florida away. Honestly, GurShall is better than Alabama’s running game. Honestly, Alabama has NO Jarvis Jones, if we can get him healthy in the next 18 days before kick-off. Honestly, I am not sure Alabama even has an Alec Oglletree, who I have always felt was our best pass defender, and would have been Erk Russell’s Rover from day 1. Honestly, and truthfully, we can be mean.

Can we beat Alabama ? Better than any other team in the history of college football, and this year as good a chance as any.

Can we make the BCS Championship Game, or Alabama, whichever team wins ? Guarantee like I did that Johnny Football would beat Alabama.

I am not saying I am happy either way. I am saying that

WE’RE IN THE DISCUSSION ON NATIONAL STAGE END OF THE YEAR

The SEC is enjoying our BEST SEASON EVER and we will have 1 of our teams in the title game. I don’t have to bet anyone.

All the anti-SEC football world can say all they want about only undefeated teams from “BCS Conferences” play in the nc title game, but the facts of the matter ARE The SEC is not only BETTER 2012 than EVER, but we ALL HAVE FAR BETTER WINS – ALREADY – than anything Notre Dame, Oregon and Kansas State can muster by the Final BCS Rankings after The SEC Championship Game 4 pm Georgia Dome.

The Game will provide a BUMP-UP because the winner will have either :

beat # 4 and # 6 in the BCS Rankings that fatal final BCS Poll, or
beat # 5 and # 7 in the BCS Rankings that fatal final BCS Poll.

While the best Oregon, Notre Dame, Kansas State CAN muster will be they beat # 21 or # 23 or # 24.

THAT doesn’t get you in the nc title game. You’re dreaming if you think the best 2 football teams 2012 beat as their best wins the # 21 or # 23 or # 24 in that fatal final BCS Poll.

It will be a SPLIT NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP and The SEC # 1 AP Poll if it is.

You have no credibility if you cannot address the fact that the best win Oregon Kansas State and Notre Dame can possibly offer up in that fatal final BCS Rankings is that they beat # 21 or # 23 or # 24 as their best win, and you think that makes you national champions.

BULL HOCKEY like I told nikki today.

BULL HOCKEY the nc beat as their best win # 21 # 23 or # 24 in that fatal final BCS Rankings, when The SEC has

ALL THESE TEAMS WHO BEAT ALL THESE TOP 10 teams in that fatal final BCS Rankings.

Not the least of which is that – WORST CASE :

SEC beat # 4 and # 6 or SEC beat # 5 and # 7.

You have no credibility if you cannot address that.

Aaron
its not about whats fair. None of those undefeated teams played SC, T A&M, LSU, UF, UGA UF, OR ALABAMA. You keep saying “undefeated” like that is the last word, but who made you King this year? Undefeated teams have been jumped before, you telling me it can’t happen again? Cause if you are, this conversation is over with you because you just want to argue, not reson…

Well, Aaron is a student at Alabama. So, he has not seen kingdaddy what we’ve seen.

Beauty Pageants are Won based upon how they look lined-up with the others.

At some point, much more than 6 of the top 9 in that fatal final poll, will be MEASURED.

It will NOT be that Florida was ranked # 2 at game time. It will BE that Choklahoma, Southern California, Stanford, Oregon State and Texas will be barely ranked at all – NOT 6 OF THE TOP 9.

Jeff Schultz does not address how what Choklahoma does, affects this, or what Stanford does, or what Texas does, or what Oregon State does, or what Southern California does – for if these teams are not highly ranked up there with 6 of the top 9 as SEC will be, their argument TODAY of where they are ranked today in the actual BCS Rankings Poll today, is OUT THE WINDOW and thus

BUMP-UP

for beating The other SEC teams to be The Best of The Best Conference 2012.

Not The Best Conference 6 prior years, but The Best Conference 2012. Yes, our teams beat up on each other. We likewise would beat up on ANY TEAM whose best win is over # 21 or # 23 or # 24 in that fatal final BCS Rankings Poll.

The SEC represents not 14 schools against the other 106, but IN FACT the MAJORITY of The College Football World. David Pollack, ESPN – who replaced Craig James – a perfect example of the huge impact The SEC has on The College Football Landscape. We dominate the attendance. Our fans are not just oh well, we’re undefeated, maybe we can win nc 2012 – we’ve BEEN HERE for the long haul. We affect the thinking of the college football world. Take this blog for example, I have been carrying on about THIS for days on end with all comers.

Now, this is The Topic for THIS BLOG.

Duh.

It will get NOTHING BUT BIGGER up to and AFTER 4 pm Sat Dec 1

# 12 Choklahoma played 2 teams, LOST BOTH. Always chokes. Always loses its bowl game. Never ready to play big teams. They have 3 games left against nobodies. Their season is an unranked season if they lose to lowly 6-4 TCU or lowly 5-4 West Virginia or lowly 6-3 Oklahoma State, none of which are ranked teams.

# 13 Stanford LOST to 6-4 Washington for God’s sake. Has to play Oregon & UCLA. Talk to me about Stanford’s BCS Ranking that fatal final BCS Rankings December 2 ?

# 15 Texas LOST to 5-4 West Virginia for God’s sake. Plays Kansas State (and TCU) bunch of over-rated nothings left in the Big XII with 10 teams and no Big XII Championship Game any longer. # 9 Texas A & M quit the conference # 14 Nebraska quit the conference. If Kansas State played # 9 Texas A & M or # 14 Nebraska, what would they do ? Kansas State gets to be nc because they beat what right now is # 15 Texas when after they lose they’re # 21 with their horrible loss to West Virginia.

# 16 Oregon State LOST to 6-4 Washington, now they play Oregon. Oregon State is no damn good. They lose to Oregon and where do they end up in that fatal final BCS Rankings # 23.

# 18 Southern California LOST ALREADY 3 LOSSES INCLUDING TO 5-5 ARIZONA STATE. They play now UCLA and Notre Dame. That’s what ? # 24 in that fatal final BCS Rankings Poll December 2 ? This is the “BEST WIN by Oregon and by Notre Dame.”

Now I will be MORE THAN HAPPY to discuss with you who Alabama beat beating # 7 BCS LSU and who # 7 BCS LSU beat beating # 8 BCS Texas A & M and beating # 9 BCS South Carolina. I will be MORE THAN HAPPY to discuss with you who Georgia beat beating # 6 Florida and who # 6 BCS Florida beat beating # 7 BCS LSU, beating # 8 BCS Texas A & M, and beating # 9 BCS South Carolina.

The dogs will beat alabama and should be in the BCS title game–end of story. They are much better than Notre Dame or Kansas State, who play weak schedules. The SEC should demand that Georgia get a slot in the title game against oregon.

First off Norte Dame should NOT even be in the conversation as the OFFICIALS gave them 3 games. Next until one of those teams from the other conferences beats Alabama, Florida, Georgia, LSU or South Carolina then they JUST don’t belong in the Mythical National Championship game. SEC teams have won 6 straight MNC and except for 2 years ago if my memory serves me correct they weren’t even close games. That is just my opinion anyways we still have 3 weeks left in this season anything can happen as we have seen all to often.

Go Dawgs

More Kool-Aid, please

As with every year, the dawgs are all pumped up for another run at the SEC and a national championship. The Kool-Aid is flowing in copious amounts as they make ready to mow down their cupcake opposition.
.
.
.
Wait, haven’t we heard this before… as in every year?
.
.
.
And before long the dreams will be just shattered illusions, victim to 3rd rate coaching, failed drug tests, DUIs, girlfriends beaten up, academic failures, and a half-dozen other reasons.
.
.
.
So let me be the first to say so long, farewell, ciao, adios, sayonara, and adieu to the whimpering puppies, whose only hope is… are you ready for this…
.
.
WAIT TILL NEXT YEAR!!!

So this is a long shot but if 2 of the 3 undefeated teams lose, and GA beats AL in SEC game….realize alot of things have to break right….and GA gets to play in and wins the BCS Championship game…would this this be first time in history that a National Champion had a blowout as part of its record?

I can’t think of another National Champion where the loss(es) were not at least competitive games.
