Short takes: Murray, defense and angry Auburn fans

If you missed it, here’s a link to my column on Georgia’s SEC East-clinching win over Auburn Saturday night.

And here are my three “short takes” on the game.

Former Georgia and Falcons defensive coordinator Brian VanGorder didn't even look happy before the game. (Brant Sanderlin/AJC)

Former Georgia and Falcons defensive coordinator Brian VanGorder didn't even look happy before the game. (Brant Sanderlin/AJC)

1. Aaron Murray is just fine: Murray took a beating from some Georgia fans after horrible games against South Carolina and Florida but he has rebounded nicely. He completed his first 10 passes against Auburn (two for touchdowns) and threw for three scores and 208 yards in three quarters before being lifted. In the last nine quarters, going back to the fourth quarter of the Florida game, Murray is 44 for 60 for 675 yards, eight touchdowns and zero interceptions. Offensive coordinator Mime Bobo said Murray had been too “cautious,” adding: “I said, ‘Son, you know what’s going on. You’re one of the best quarterbacks in  the country. Cut it loose. If you make a turnover being aggressive, that’s OK.’”

Jarvis Jones levels Auburn quarterback Jonathan Wallace. (Brant Sanderlin/AJC)

2. Defense gives Georgia a chance against Alabama. Auburn is one of the weakest offensive teams around, but there’s little question Georgia’s defense is finally playing up to the level that was expected before the season. The Bulldogs have allowed just one touchdown (along with four field goals) in the last three games. The missed tackles and missed assignments, partly the result of injuries and early season suspensions, aren’t an issue right now. Add to that the Alabama offense has not been overpowering in the last two games against LSU and Texas A&M. If Georgia’s defense can play at the same level against Alabama in the SEC title game as it has against Florida, Ole Miss and Auburn, it has a very good chance to pull an upset.

3. Auburn fans are so done with this season. In 23 years of living in Atlanta, I’ve never seen a home crowd for a major college football team — let alone a team that won a national championship just two years ago — bolt from a game so quickly. Jordan-Hare Stadium was full for kickoff, certainly a positive for a winless SEC team. But boos started to rain down in the second quarter when Georgia built its lead to 21-0, then 28-0. When Keith Marshall ran 62 yards for a score to make it 38-0 in the third quiarter, it was like somebody yelled, “Fire,” in the stadium and thousands of fans streamed out. Georgia had more fans in the stadium than Auburn in the fourth quarter. That might be the worst sign of all for coach Gene Chizik.

Auburn fans have every reason to be mad. There is no excuse for Auburn having lost to every SEC team.

# 115 Offense
# 90 Defense

Out of 120 teams.

2-8 Auburn is this season.

Who played worse against UGA all season ? Vanderbilt only at 48-3 is the only team who played us worse than Auburn 38 to nothing.

3-9 is Auburn’s record 2012.

6-4 last year.

9-13 last 2 years.

Your recruiting class is ranked # 10 in the nation for 2013. You fire Gene Chizik and you can kiss that class goodbye.

Your recruiting class was # 8 February this year. What did you do with them ?

Your recruiting class was # 2 in the nation last season. Where are they, either ?

Seriously, Auburn fans. You have come in here and run your mouths the last several years on every UGA blog. The announcers said you need top recruits.

Seems to me you have them.

Right ?

What’s the deal over there on the Plains ?

It’s funny that you have to put another school down to feel better about the fact that UGA hasn’t been relevant since Carter left office in 1980.

Auburn did not have the number two class in the nation, ma’am. Try again.

“Seriously, Auburn fans. You have come in here and run your mouths the last several years on every UGA blog. The announcers said you need top recruits.”

Auburn fans aren’t the only ones who mock UGA fans. Bama, Florida, Tech, FSU, LSU etc all make fun of UGA fans.

Sorry your team sucks, but if you’re going to point out grammar, as you stated (You sound like someone in need of a remedial english class.), work on it yourself.

Donnan of a New Era quote: “You would be wrong considering Bama just came of a national championship ”
Shouldn’t it be off and not of you douchenozzle grammar Nazi?

Sorry you all can’t win without cheating. I bet Reuben Foster is taking a belt sander to his Auburn tattoo right now.

I thought Georgia fans were above bammer fans, but some of these hateful ridiculous posts are changing my mind. Georgia won and Georgia has a good shot at beating bammer in Atlanta. But the hate at the one school that shows UGA some respect is lame.

That’s ok Nikki. You can talk about whatever you want to talk about on Jeff Schultz’ blog. He said so. He has simple rules. What you discuss, is up to you, dear. What you have said is that you have this deep-seated bias against folks from The Deep South. You actually think you are better. So much so that it makes you laugh to compare graduates of The University of Georgia ranked # 63 University and Virginia Tech ranked # 72.

Virginia Tech is WORSE than The University of Georgia, Nikki.

We all must take those rankings with a grain of salt but until fairly recently UGA was nowhere close. Institutions in VA and the northeast have been high in those rankings for many years. HOPE has given UGA some better studnets; however, we all know grades are being inflated in high schools all across GA due to HOPE. So once again those rankings may be a bit tainted. If you want to show me some stats let’s compare GA public schools to VA public schools. That is where these kids are coming from. What are those rankings?

That’s totally untrue nikki. UGA, as you were told, has been HIGHER ranked. You don’t know what you’re talking about. Your concept is that in your feeble bigoted mind, UGA has NEVER been anywhere close to Virginia Tech academically. Now, that I have MADE YOU stop and click the URL Link finally, you now agree that UGA is HIGHER RANKED AS A UNIVERSITY than Virginia Tech is.

You probably could bring yourself to agree that Virginia Tech is NOT RANKED HIGH AT ALL AS A UNIVERSITY, # 72.

We are in here talking about your bias viewpoint of what you said. You are NOT CHANGING that to some other topic, dear.

Your statement here is that it MAKES YOU LAUGH to compare graduates of Virginia Tech to graduates of The University of Georgia, and that further you stated that UGA must have COME UP IN ACADEMICS because you certainly had in your weak mind that UGA was NOT CLOSE ACADEMICALLY TO VIRGINIA TECH.

You are intolerant of those in The Deep South because you think your education at Virginia Tech is so damn great.

I just think you guys are funny when you make fun of Alabama. Does Alabama have Honey Boo Boo and Deliverance which I think was filmed in NE GA but I could be wrong. Just think when you put down others there is always someone else who feels as though they can put you down. Stick to football and don’t degrade other people unless that makes you feel better about yourself. Then I can understand why you do it. But doesn’t make it right.i

“Auburn is scary. They should have a high revenge factor this year and shouldn’t be taken lightly. Agreed. Complacency and overconfidence–potentially our two biggest enemies tomorrow. They’re always dangerous as a host. That crowd will be packed and jacked. Won’t be like Ole Miss, when we had the crowd behind us. I’d be delighted with a 10-point win–or a one-pointer for that matter.”

How’d that work out for you DawgNole ?

Once again you’ve distorted and fabricated by misplacing the quote marks to indicate that I wrote all of that. My quote begins at “Agreed”–not at “Auburn is scary.” That’s why you have ZERO credibility on here; you lie and distort and fabricate. And by the way, it worked out quite well for me. Like I said, I would’ve been delighted with any margin of victory–and I am.

Stick to spelling penalties incorrectly yourself DawgNole, talking about how poorly Florida is playing 2012 yourself as well, and telling us all how Mizzou with their 5-5 record is the measure for UGA 2012
_____________________

More lies. As I’ve already pointed out to you, lamebrain, my post questioning the gators was made in early Sept–after they struggled against Bowling Green. And as you very well know, I did not use Mizzou’s team as a “measure for UGA 2012.” I said the environment up there for their first SEC game (vs UGA) would be hostile–and indeed it was.

You still predicting “four or five losses in 2012″ for the gators? When are you going to own up to that one, weasel? “Street cred” my azz. You’re an absolute disgrace to all decent UGA fans.

_______________________

Perfectly good comment by BullDogMike that Florida did not even score a single TD against Georgia, but that Florida had beat LSU.
Making the point that LSU is NOT as good a win as Georgia’s win over Florida. And, making the point that Alabama does not have as good a win over # 7 LSU as Georgia has over # 6 Florida.
Then, this self-righteous self-appointed Internet guru DawgNole re-posts the whole entire post and instead of talking about THE POINT which is that Alabama does NOT have as good a win as Georgia has over Florida. That’s the point of the post.
DawgNole runs in here, completely reprints the whole entire post of BullDogMike and replies to BullDogMike that BullDogMike is wrong that Alabama didn’t lose to Florida this year, which BullDogMike never said.

DawgNole November 11th, 2012 1:05 pm
