Predictions: This time it’s all red — Dogs, Falcons win

chalk

As we head down the stretch of this football season and attempt to answer the age-old question, “Who whines more: SEC football fans after losing a game or Republicans after losing an election?” — and this is why I always check under my car for suspicious wire before starting it — it’s time to check in on the remains of Gene Chizik.

Two years ago, Auburn won the national championship. Now the Tigers are 2-7 overall and 0-6 in the SEC.

The governors of Colorado and Washington.

The governors of Colorado and Washington.

Or, as Karl Rove would put it, they’re trending upward and on the verge of conquering the SEC West, the conference, the BCS, Ohio (don’t it make my red eyes blue?), Hawaii, Alaska, Manitoba, the dangling chads of Florida, the clogging anchors of Fox, the Western Hemisphere, the Eastern Bloc (Commies! We’ll hunt ‘em all down!), the Peoples Republic of Cheech and Chong (Colorado and Washington just legalized marijuana — so, yes, we have confirmation that Doritos has lobbyists) and even the educated, artistic and peaceful liberals of Alderaan (oh wait, they were destroyed by the Death Star in Episode IV. Never mind.)

Back to Gene Chizik. I’m generally not a proponent of firing coaches two years after winning national championships. But this guy is now 9-29 in SEC and Big 12 conference games in which he didn’t have the luxury of telling Cam Newton, “Here’s the ball. Go do anything you want.”

I know what you’re thinking: “Georgia’s going to let down.”

Not this time. Too much at stake: The SEC East and a trip to the Georgia Dome. That’s reality, not an electoral projection.

If the Bulldogs can just keep Mark Richt off a swing set, they should be fine.

The line is a whopper: 15½. But it’s covered. Division, ho!

You contest (and Lane Kiffin) update

The wit and wisdom of Mr. Burns (whiny SEC fan?)

OLD SCHOOL

Figured Curry could use a little help with a zen rock garden.

Just trying to help Curry with a little zen rock garden.

Georgia Tech at North Carolina: The Jackets are 1-0 without athletic director Dan Radakovich. See, I’m all about the positive. It was either that or point out Tech’s four wins have come over 2-9 Presbyterian and three ACC teams with a combined conference record of 4-12. Oops. Heels win, but take Tech and 9.

Georgia State at Maine: Not saying Bill Curry has had a rough season, but last week he inadvertently turned in an organ-donation card instead of a lineup card. A Zen moment: A career-ending win for Curry.

Texas A&M at Alabama: The disingenuous Nick Saban says no-huddle, spread offenses like A&M’s are a danger to player safety. Let me translate: “If they go too fast and I can’t rotate my three-deep, five-star, winded front seven, there’s a chance I might lose. And another thing, Sumlin: Get off of my lawn!” Tide win, but give me the Aggies and 14.

How about Dooley vs. Saban in a Zoolander-esque "Walk-off."

How about Dooley vs. Saban in a Zoolander-esque "Walk-off."

Arkansas at South Carolina: Too bad it’s not Bobby Petrino vs. Steve Spurrier or we could’ve had “The Moral Compass Bowl.” Jimmy Johnson actually said Arkansas should rehire Petrino. Question: Is he willing to bankroll the university for all future sexual-harassment lawsuits? Yeah. Didn’t think so. Roosters cover 14.

Missouri at Tennessee: Derek Dooley was depicted in “art work” on UT’s painted rock again, this time as “Doolander” (as in, “Zoolander”). With all of that creativity on campus, you’d think somebody could draw up a play. Finally, an SEC win: Vols cover 3½.

Mississippi State at LSU: Les Miles is a great coach when he’s not trying to pull a moose out of a hat (cue: Bullwinkle). Tigers win, but take the other Dogs and 14½.

Les Miles reaching into his playbook

NFL SNACK PACK

"So are we going to carpool to work next year?"

"So are we going to carpool to work next year?"

Falcons at Saints: The Saints have stabilized since an 0-4 start. That’s not to say they’re going to make the playoffs, but at least linebacker Curtis Lofton isn’t stabbing himself with a fork in the middle of the night, screaming, “What have I done!?!”By the way, what’s Sean Payton doing with a Dallas tags on his car? Falcons cover 2½.

Cowboys at Eagles: Jerry Jones the owner said he would fire Jerry Jones the general manager, but then Jerry Jones the deluded poobah most responsible for the Cowboys’ mess said he won’t strip himself of personnel duties. The good news: With one playoff win in 15 years, he has the full support of 31 other owners. Eagles win (and take the 1).

Texans at Bears: Houston strikes me as one of those really good teams that will never do anything in the playoffs. Then again, the Bears have Jay Cutler. Winner: Texans (take the 1).

Broncos at Panthers: Since those three quick interceptions against the Falcons, Peyton Manning has thrown 18 touchdowns and three picks. It’s all in the timing. Denver covers.

It’s Jerry Jones, starring as “Dark Helmet” (”Spaceballs”)

BUT WHO’S COUNTING? (ME)

sportsbettingLast week: 8-3 straight up, 7-4 against the line.

So far, so awesome: 86-26 straight up, 66-45-1 against the line.

“Sack Schultz” update: “JoeB1515″ and “Rayne09″ lead the race for the Georgia-Georgia Tech tickets and other prizes. “Wildone” leads for the trip to Hawaii. Lucky dude Brad Sawyer of Stockbridge who went 14-1 last week to win a Marlow’s giftcard and a Fathead.

Lilly Pick of the Week: It’s Falcons-Saints week. Cheeseballs were placed on pictures of the two quarterbacks, Matt Ryan and Drew Brees. Lilly puts her 5-4 record on the line. The winner: Brees.

Lilly is an Atlanta native but she has no allegiances. Obviously.

Lilly is an Atlanta native but she has no allegiances to Falcons. Clearly.

for those in ‘the know” down in New Orleans… don’t expect Sean Payton to move to Big D b/c his wife is there. Word is there were “issues” in the marriage that took her back to dallas. Issues being Coach straying off the ol marriage reservation.

How about that crap about Robert Nkemdiche………. Is anyone really surprised. I sure hope UGA does not go hard after him. I don’t think I have ever seen a High School player want so much attention. This will be a problem child for Ole Miss. You can have him. World of talent with a 2 cent head!!

Jeff, you’ve always done a great job of keeping your political leanings hidden–almost as well as, for example, Jemele Hill at ESPN. [end sarcasm]

As it turns out, neither my vote, nor yours, counted for anything in this presidential election.

No problem with throwing in some political jabs now and then in a sports column, but you could try doing it a little more even-handedly. As you well know, there is a LOT to “jab” at on both sides of the political spectrum.

Jeff, I am glad you realize politics and football are intertwined.

Believe it or not. A football team’s performance has a lot to do with politics. Look at BAMA, the HC is reportedly a Dem. Look at FL, their state just voted Dem, again. Combined, they win 4 of the last 6 NC’s.

Auburn couldn’t win an NC even with an undefeated season in 04. You know what? Tommy Tuberville is not only a Repub, but he is a Birther!

I know LA voted Repub and won a NC, but is it possible Les is a Dem? Saban won one there too, but he is a Dem.

Don’t tell me those are just coincidence. Think about it, your unpaid players are mostly from Dem families who make little money out of playing football, while the coaches are mostly Repub and make tons of money and want a lower tax rate at the mean time.

Why would the players want to win a NC so that their coaches can make more money and pay an even lower tax rate?

I agree that Alabama will have a difficult time with “Oregon Lite” but I think they win at home. If Georgia doesn’t beat Auburn by at least 21, they don’t deserve to be in the championship game. I am hoping for a perfect SEC regular season. That would be Alabama 8-0 with Auburn 0-8.

Imagine if Israel was a Democracy like the USA and their laws were challenged by the Islamic equivalents of the ACLU, NAACP, and Illegal Immigrant Rights Organizations. Soon, minority liberal Arabs could vote their representatives into the Parliament. Before long, Syria, Lebanon, and Jordan would be voting to join Israel as states, to share the Israeli wealth and to increase minority representation in Israel … as a demographic shift never before foreseen. Within a decade, the Prime Minister of Israel would be Muslim, and not long after that Israel would forbid Jews from living there.

How To Shower Like a Woman:

Take off clothing and place it in sectioned laundry hamper according to lights and darks.

Walk to bathroom wearing long dressing gown.

If you see husband along the way, cover up any exposed areas.

Look at your womanly physique in the mirror – make mental note to do more sit-ups/leg-lifts, etc.

Get in the shower.

Use face cloth, arm cloth, leg cloth, long loofah, wide loofah and pumice stone.

Wash your hair once with cucumber and sage shampoo with 43 added vitamins.

Wash your hair again to make sure it’s clean.

Condition your hair with grapefruit mint conditioner enhanced.

Wash your face with crushed apricot facial scrub for 10 minutes until red.

Wash entire rest of body with ginger nut and jaffa cake body wash.

Rinse conditioner off hair.

Shave armpits and legs.

Turn off shower.

Squeegee off all wet surfaces in shower.

Spray mold spots with Tilex.

Get out of shower.

Dry with towel the size of a small country.

Wrap hair in super absorbent towel.

Return to bedroom wearing long dressing gown and towel on head.

If you see husband along the way, cover up any exposed areas.

How To Shower Like a Man:

Take off clothes while sitting on the edge of the bed and leave them in a pile.

Walk naked to the bathroom.

If you see wife along the way, shake wiener at her making the ‘woo-woo’ sound.

Look at your manly physique in the mirror.

Admire the size of your wiener and scratch your butt.

Get in the shower. Wash your face.

Wash your armpits.

Blow your nose in your hands and let the water rinse them off.

Fart, and laugh at how loud it sounds in the shower.

Spend majority of time washing privates and surrounding area.

Wash your butt, leaving those coarse butt hairs stuck on the soap.

Wash your hair. Make a Shampoo Mohawk.

Pee.

Rinse off and get out of shower.

Partially dry off.

Fail to notice water on floor because curtain was hanging out of tub the whole time.

Admire wiener size in mirror again.

Leave shower curtain open, wet mat on floor, light and fan on.

Larry, Sounds like your father and mine went to the same school! However it seems like we have differing views..When I was 12yrs I had a TV in my room, it was probably older then me, when it broke my dad had another (slightly less older) tv that wasnt even being used. You think he gave it to me? Of course not, he made me pay for it, through cutting grass, or whatever I could in the neighborhood to earn the money. But guess what, someone had to allow me to do that work for them! So I couldn’t do it on my own. So a lot of the complaining just isn’t warranted., Unless people are willing to provide the services that Gov’t provides for themselves, we all have to pay taxes.. Period. Simply put there aren’t enough EDUCATED people out there to fill all the jobs available. Unemployment for those with college degrees is at 4% while it is over 10% for those without! So as long as there are people satisfied with just getting by, nothing will ever change, and that goes for everyone, regardless of political, racial, economic, affiliation!

Went to a small college and paid my own way. Work for a Fortune 300 company and make a decent living. Zero credit card debt, although I do have several and use them occasionally for credit rating purposes. Started in the work force at 16 making minimum wage and have worked my way up. I have one mortgage and no other debtors. 10% of my income goes into savings for retirement and I have about another 20 years before I can retire.
Why is that so hard to believe? Many others CHOOSE to be responsible/self-accountable and live the same way. Sad that the majority just don’t get it. But hey, I’ll keep paying my taxes to keep you afloat, so don’t worry.

Put money into savings and 401k yet I still couldn’t believe half of the $hit that flew out of Republican representatives mouth! See for me it’s deeper than the party, its about the representation. Romney flip flopped like a college kid spring breaking in Destin. and that I couldnt vote for.
So you don’t have to worry about paying your taxes to keep me afloat my friend, I’m doing pretty darn good myself. Nice try though…
I think the common denominator between us is the education! We both have degrees and we are both working. Again as quoted, unemployment for those with degrees is at 4%. Education sees no color, gender, religion it is the great equalizer.

Sick’em Dawglasville!!
It seems that if you don’t mind paying taxes (so long as they aren’t absorbitant) then people think you are worthless and living off the everyone else!! There are plenty of educated, well-to-do people that voted for Obama just as there are people that are in the “system”. Guess what though, there are just as many people that (well maybe not quite, that’s why he lost) voted for Mitt, that fall into both of those categories too! Think about the rural places where there aren’t many jobs in the SOUTH, Kentucky, Indiana, WVA etc.. I guarantee in those places there are just as many people “in the system” but still voted for Romney for one reason or another.

I will answer that…Because this is America and he has the right to!

My parents are Dems, yet sent me to private school, because the PRIVATE aspect of it weeds out those who want to be there and those who don’t want to be there, thus eliminating the distractions and allowing teacher to do their jobs. It also says a lot about the value the parents place on their child’s education which means there are often parents that share similar beliefs (at least educationaly) as you. Again, education is the great equalizer. No one can ever take it away from you. Once you have it’s yours. they cant repossess it, foreclose on it, or include in a BK. It also places more accountability on parents because guess what, if I am paying this kind of money on school, I am going to make sure your a$$ is in class, and your grades better be on point.

There are Christians who are Democrats who actually take these preachings to heart: The Gospels, The Beatitudes, if you want to be first, you have to be last, even the Son of Man came to serve and ransom his life for all. There are Christians who put love before judgement and let God handle the judgement part of it. Just because the Christian Right is the loudest doesn’t mean they represent me or my families faith. Now, I know that there will be a line forming to tell me that I am not a Christian, but I hope that the readers who follow this blog realize that the loudest ones yelling don’t represent the majority of the Christian faith. WASHINGTON, DC Sources confirmed today that “hundreds of thousands of military absentee ballots” were delivered hours after the deadline for them to be counted, with preliminary counts showing that they would have overturned the vote in several states and brought a victory for Governor Mitt Romney.

Officials say the ballots were delivered late due to “problems within the military mail system”. Tracking invoices show the ballots sat in a warehouse for a month, then they were accidentally labeled as ammunition and shipped to Afghanistan. At Camp Dwyer, Marine Sergeant John Davis signed for them and was surprised at the contents.

I told Gunny we got a bunch of ballots instead of ammo, Davis told investigators earlier today. He told me to file a report of improper delivery and that the chain of command would take care of it. We didnt hear anything for three weeks. While we were waiting we came under fire so we dumped a bunch of them in the Hescoes. We didnt dig those ones back out.

After military officials realized the initial error, the ballots were then sent back to the U.S. but suffered a series of setbacks.

Twelve boxes of ballots were dropped overboard during delivery to the USS Kearsarge (LHD-3) in the Persian Gulf, then while the ship sailed to Bahrain, postal clerks allegedly pocketed whatever ballots they wanted.

The remaining absentee ballots were

More blue states pay into the federal government and more red states take out of it. Most people who have a family, own a home, and make $50k or less don’t end up paying any federal income taxes when deductions are factored in at the end. That’s 50% of the country (the median national income is right at about $50k per household). If you want to keep suggesting that it’s Democrats who are the ones who don’t pay taxes, then you can do so, but it will only make you look dumb. The facts refute that claim. Look at the data.

“Thomas Brown You forget that we moved to # 2 in the BCS in 2007 and we still didnt play for the NC Do you seriously think if those teams are still undefeated we are getting into the NC game? Keep dreaming”
_____________________________________
No, we were NOT # 2 in the BCS in 2007. You are just wrong. LSU beat 2 teams 2007 who made the AP Poll Top 10 while we beat 0 teams 2007 who made the AP Poll Top 10; and, so LSU for the national championship, because in The SEC Championship Game they were # 3 in the BCS Standings and WON the SEC Championship Game and got the BUMP-up to from # 3 to # 2, while UGA did not win The SEC Championship Game sitting at home watching as we dropped from # 4 to # 5 in the BCS Standings. It is a perfect example of ONE SCENARIO which is out there and that is that at # 4 at SEC Championship Game time, should we beat Alabama which you said yourself is possible with these players 2012 on our team, we could get the BUMP-up from # 4 to # 2 and make the game. Yes, I seriously think that wins then in that scenario over # 2 Florida and # 1 Alabama is worth the BUMP-up to # 2, if Oregon and Notre Dame remain undefeated (or Kansas State whom I say loses as Bill Snyder always has.) I firmly believe that the PAC-12 will have only 2 other ranked teams and that they both finish the season about # 21 and # 23.

Here is how I seriously actually see the final polls 2012 :

# 24 Choklahoma
# 21 Stanford
# 23 Southern California

# 21 Stanford who lost to 5-4 Washington already & not assured winning any of their last 3 games
Stanford could end up with 6-Loss Season including a bowl loss. That’s what Stanford is.

# 24 Choklahoma could easily end up a 5-Loss Season including annual bowl loss as always, Choklahoma could end up barely, if at all, in any top 25 poll. Choklahoma has played 2 teams and LOST BOTH, and has 2 more teams to play, both of whom could beat them obviously since they have no credence 2012 having beat no one, and we all know Choklahoma will most likely as always lose its bowl game.

# 23 Southern California already has 3 losses including to a LOUSY UNRANKED 5-4 Arizona team who has LOST to EVERYONE. Southern California could easily lose 2 more games to Notre Dame and to Oregon a 2nd time to end up with 5-Losses before a bowl; that is if Southern California can even play in a bowl game this season, or if they are still banned from bowl games under Lame Kitten or whatever his name is now letting air out of balls paying a $ 25,000 fine today and saying he knew nothing about it. You believe that ?

As a matter of fact, in order for both Oregon and Notre Dame to remain undefeated in your ONLY scenario you will allow to be discussed, Southern California MUST be a 5-Loss team before they have any possible bowl game. 6-Loss Southern Cal season if they play a good team in a bowl game, obviously. And, yet the PAC-12 was SAID TO BE GREAT 2012 because Southern California started the season # 1. For your only scenario you will allow to be discussed, this former # 1 PAC-12 team this season MUST have 5-Loss Season before the bowl season.

Yet, your theory is that having

# 23 Southern California
# 21 Stanford

as the only 2 other ranked PAC-12 teams, makes those GREAT WINS to compare with :

# 2 Florida
# 1 Alabama

If you really believe that, you’ve got a flat tire still somewhere holding you back.

_______________________________________________________________
TB u forget that we moved to # 2 in the BCS in 2007 & we still didnt play for NC
_______________________________________________________________

That is whole ENTIRE POINT, we did NOT move to # 2 in the BCS in 2007, but were # 4 before The SEC Championship Game and DROPPED to # 5 after The SEC Championship Game because we did not play in it, while LSU who beat 2 teams who made the AP Poll Top 10 in 2007 (We beat 0 who made the AP Poll Top 10 in 2007 by STARK CONTRAST.) got a

BUMP-up

And, Jumped-up from # 3 to # 2 and into the BCS Title Game.

LSU was # 2 in the BCS Rankings 2007, NOT Georgia as you erroneously state. For you to have this argument that only your scenario can be discussed, the very crux of it is that in 2007 LSU got the

JUMP-UP
BUMP-UP

from # 3 to # 2 and thusly into the Title Game and thus LSU 2007 beat 2 teams making the Top 10 while we beat 0.

That is whole entire point I-95. And, you run in here and tell me that I cannot say that there ALSO is this scenario out there on November 9 where UGA could get a

BUMP-UP
JUMP-UP

from # 4 to # 2 by winning The SEC Championship, while Oregon, Kansas State and Notre Dame have at BEST a # 21, # 23 or # 24 team as their “BEST WIN compared to our

BEST WINS UGA 2012 in scenario YOU WANT TO DISCUSS WITH ME :

# 2 Florida
# 1 Alabama

Since Schultzie thought it hilarious to point out Republican whining reaction to a lost election, it surely slipped his mind when Al Gore and the DNC took the Florida 2000 vote to the Supreme Court and still lost. They still bitch about it. Schultzie’s dig at Fox Anchors is justified only if he can swear he has never once watched Stephanopolis, Schieffer, Laurer, or Al Sharpton. For every Karl Rove, the dems have a Howard Dean. Tit fot tat. Bama fans may believe the SEC Championship has been decreed for them. From what I saw in the LSU game the fat animals were damn lucky to have won it. The refs obviously were in the tank for bama, 1 penalty for 15 yards and LSU gets nailed for 100 yards, give me a break. And they still have to get past the turkey buzzards. Punt bama punt.

I enjoy you’re great stories. You put a lot of effort and humor into your articles and I look forward to each and every one. If I don’t like something, I skip over it. Its no big deal. So far in America, you don’t have to read something you don’t like at gunpoint (unless you’re in school or for work) . I am thankful to be able to read and also to read what I like. I may not be as intelligent as some of your blog posters, but I live life to the fullest, have raised two wonderful boys and am enjoying a beautiful grand-daughter. I wish UGA was more consistant. How many games have we played hard for 60 minutes? Not enough. Even if we get by Auburn, which I believe we will, we will have to play a near perfect game to beat Bama. We can’t count on Bama having a bad game and us being able to capitalize on their mistakes. Actually, it’s just the opposite. We have to play mistake free and hope the ball bounces our way a few times to beat such a well coached team…

Not that anyone cares (or should), but don’t take Tech and the points. In Tech’s 5 losses (including the 3-point loss to start the year), the average margin was 14 points (including MTSU and BYU). The margins have been increasing as a trend as the year has progressed. UNC’s up-tempo offense will obliterate our defense (that gave up 13 points to a team without a QB last week). UNC 45 GT 13 (missed extra point).

No reloading for them, just Rebuilding. We see they weren’t built to last like LSU & BAMA. I think UGA is trying to build a team that’s deep, but sometimes I would do things differently. If Murray goes down, we’re screwed because our back-ups have little experience. Our Oline and DBs are also a concern, or have been the last couple of years. BTW, your last post was the pitiful ramblings of a wounded blog-bully. Good thing Tennessee Williams is dead so he didn’t have to read your sad attempt to explain yourself once again…

YOUR 5:00 AM IS SENSELESS BLATHERING.
More inane nonsense from a liberal elitist who got his feelings hurt and his tiny toes stepped on. Reread you post a couple of times before you post. Maybe I would understand it better if I was as drunk as you. Remember, that the people that you like to talk down to, were swinging in trees not to long ago. I guess that’s a problem for you since you are so much farther evolved than the rest of us. Your asininity is showing…What a jerk…

Don’t look now Georgia, but more and more of the 49% (soon to be much more than that percentage) is pouring in large numbers into your state………and soon the red color on that Georgia electoral map….will turn blue as well…..and particularily if your state continues to see everything in WHITE and BLACK.

Not white and black, but RED and BLACK–as in the colors of the team that beat yours into submission two weeks ago for the second year in a row. THAT is what matters on a football blog.

What do you know of “tree swinging?” You’re no Billie Holiday fan… That will go right over your simple head… Rather be a “jerk” than a sheep following theways of self professed “social political cons.”

We Progressives will continue doing what we’ve done since 1857. That is saving you from yourself!

Excatly what did the “extremist” teapartiers do to obstruct the vote? Require a valid ID to vote? Did they set up road-blocks and ask which way are you voting? Sorry, but you can’t enter. Don’t be an idiot, I fought for freedom of speech and the right to vote. You are full of shiz…

Mr. Schultz, Please go to the office and ask Dave O’Brien to splain to you how to remove the posted article on pages 2-20, where the thread of comments continue. He regularly gets over 1,000 comments and he knows no one wants to read his article more than once. He knows where the button is to only post a article once, on page one. Just tryin to help out here, but you could keep on writing articles that only attract 100-300 comments.

Politics? Why must I endure gloating political humor in a sports column? More AJC and mass media liberal bias that you (to its credit) the AJC appears to be trying to reduce, but you just couldn’t help yourself. Ugh. And please, after what the Democratic Party put this nation through in 2000, I can’t believe you would talk about Republican Party whining after losing an election. Shamless hypocrisy, a mark of the modern American Left, and a favorite of other fascists throughout history.

As for the sports content, agreed with your picks, and enjoyed the humor, as always.
