Mark Richt and Dogs beat Florida last season but they're underdogs this year. (Jason Getz/AJC)
Remember how high optimism was about Georgia football before this season? Well, that seems to have eroded.
The recent loss to South Carolina, several unimpressive victories – including the latest win at Kentucky — and a perceived talent-loaded defense that hasn’t nearly lived up to expectations has led to many Georgia fans expecting the worst when the Bulldogs face Florida in Jacksonville next Saturday.
How do I know this? Because when I relayed via Twitter that Florida was anywhere from a 3½ to 4½ point favorite at most sportsbooks, the responses could all be reduced down to these three words: “Is that all?”
In fact, as I type this, I have yet to find a reader who would take that bet (Georgia plus the points).
Georgia is 3-8 against Florida under Mark Richt, including last year’s win. But Florida is 7-0, ranked No. 2 in the BCS standings and destroyed South Carolina 44-11.
On Betonline.com, the Gators opened as 3½ point favorites, the line dropped to 3, then went up to 4½. Vegasinsider.com lists the consensus line at 3.5. The Las Vegas Wynn opened with Florida at 4½ and it went up to 5.
Here is the early feedback on the point spread. Feel feel to weigh in below with your thoughts and I’ve put up a simple poll question: Does Georgia win or lose?

Every Las Vegas line I can find, shows us losing by 6 and a half or 6. Would any of us take 6 and a half points or 6 points ? $1,500.00 bet one of us made on Twitter in the article Jeff Schultz puts up. We’ve played one good game all season long : Vandie. Our special teams are bad at punting and Florida has great punting. Florida has great defense, and our Defense has never played a good game against a ranked opponent since Todd Grantham came here years ago.
All passes, punts, kick-offs, & runs Todd Gurley got 15 touches vs KY
# 59 Red Zone Defense
# 92 Turnovers Gained by our Defense
# 72 Rushing Defense
# 47 Total Defense
# 49 Scoring Defense
# 49 on 3rd Down Conversion Defense
# 41 First Downs allowed by Defense
# 82 in sacks of opposing Quarterbacks, no pressure
# 49 First Downs by our Offense
# 55 in sacks allowed, wow Aaron Murray really runs fast 4.81
# 94 Fewest Penalties per game
# 55 Turnover Margin as a team all 2012, too
# 40 Red Zone Offense
# 32 Turnovers Lost
# 109 Net Punting, walk-ons
# 62 Punt Returns, walk-ons
# 44 Kick-Off Returns, walk-ons telling Malcolm Mitchell not to return it
# 45 Kick-Off Returns Defense
All pre-season, all everyone could say about this game, bar none, was that we win, how bad Will Muschamp is as an animated coach on the sidelines and a traitor when he walked-on to Florida but Steve Spurrier did not meet with him, so he took our scholarship offer instead.
For the line to be so low at 6 and a half points or 6 points every bookie bar none, Las Vegas is betting on DISNEYdawgs.com to do what they always do, act like this is a home game for us, say they are taking the week off not even hoping to win – just make the game competitive.
2 ranked teams this 2012 season with Mark Richt having lost 16 of the last 18 games against teams who made the top 25 and having lost 14 of 17 games all 12 years of the Mark Richt era against teams who made the top 10.
DISNEYdawgs.com wanted Florida to win Saturday and now they are consensus # 2 in the nation, our bitter Rival, and frankly they look to run the table to play Alabama. Nice guys; really nice.

We do know 5 failed the NCAA Drug Test DURING Spring Practice, UGA89. Greg McGarity has allowed Mark Richt to NOT PUNISH the offenders by ANNOUNCING A SUSPENSION all off-season. Remember the off-season ? We had 30 kicked-off, transfer-out, forced-out, flunked-out, arrested, suspended who were scholarship players Mark Richt and Rodney Garner brought here. So, Mark Richt to control the BAD PRESS said he was NOT ANNOUNCING ANY SUSPENSIONS.
A kid who is SUSPENDED at the University of Georgia is BY POLICY supposed to be made an example of. His SUSPENSION can be private as to the reasons. His SUSPENSION can NOT be private.
This is an open records’ state. And, The University of Georgia has an ABSOLUTE WRITTEN POLICY covering SUSPENSIONS that they MUST BE MADE PUBLIC.
The object here is to PUNISH the offenders. To make an example of them.
Mark Richt purposely ATTEMPTED all off-season to COVER-UP for his recruits.
______________
SUSPENSIONS :
______________
(1) Safety Bacarri Rambo facing a four-game drug Suspension when announce
(2) Inside linebacker Alec Ogletree least one game drug Suspension when announce
(3) Cornerback Sanders Commings Suspended for two games hit girl
(4) Chase Vasser # 9 in the nation strongside LB, DUI 4 months ago, Suspended 2 games at least.
(5) Kolton Houston Suspended by NCAA violation
Only problem with that list is that we KNOW 5 failed the NCAA Drug Test during Spring Practice back in April 5 months ago, and we know that Greg McGarity said “ask Mark Richt; he’s the one who is holding back information of the Suspensions.” So, actually what we have available to play is 67 scholarship recruits plus one transfer-in minus Four (4) we know of and double that number who failed the NCAA Drug Test April.
It is a fair bet that the answer to your question is :
59
This is how we’re perceived :

Frankly, if you think about it, had Mark Richt announced SUSPENSIONS as he is supposed to and as Greg McGarity said : ask Mark Richt to, you have to include the 3 whom the Police Chief said no one at UGA called him regarding 3 stealing over $ 500 cash and other valuables.
THAT TOO, WAS KEPT SECRET BY MARK RICHT to minimize the off-season bad press. Had he done the right thing, and called the Police, he would have won the FULMER CUP again this off-season.
And, he walks off the field vs Kentucky, laughing it up. This has been a season from Hell all 2012.

I’m totally with you after the last few weeks but what I don’t understand is what was the big deal to announce Zander’s suspension? It’s not as if he is vital to the team.
I was mad when Richt stated that “it’s just one game, the sun will come up tomorrow”.
Did you see his twitter? “Geaux Tigers”. Hoping for other teams to help us.
What really took me over the edge was our defensive players taunting the Kentucky players and their sideline after 1st and 2nd downs and then giving up a long run for a first down. No discipline.

As a GT fan, anything I post may be taken the wrong way by some UGA fans. That is o.k. by me. All I am saying is the UGA fans who constantly throw their own team under the bus need to get a life or a new team to cheer for. Yesterday they moved up in the AP Poll and BCS Standings and the result is these fans want CMR fired and say their team is not man enough to beat UF. Pitiful excuse for so called “fans”. UGA89,
The big deal to announce Zander Ogletree’s HALF-SEASON SUSPENSION is the same big deal to NOT ANNOUNCE ANY OF THE OTHER SUSPENSIONS, nor to call the Police and turn in a police report on 3 of his scholarship recruits stealing over $ 500 cash and other valuables.
1. Kolton Houston SUSPENDED all 2011 and now 2012 too
2. Zander Ogletree SUSPENDED half a season, obviously other suspensions of his have been NOT ANNOUNCED either. They don’t have to tell us what the suspension is for; in fact, they cannot say what it is for; but, they MUST by UGA policy tell us SUSPENDED. Greg McGarity has ALLOWED Mark Richt this 2012 to HIDE ALL THIS FROM EVERYONE.
3. Alec Ogletree SUSPENDED 4 games
4. Sanford Seay RFR SE transfer Dream Team SUSPENDED, KICKED-OFF never called police
5. Chris Sanders SO 4-Star # 20 S 6’ 4.39 transfer Dream Team SUSPENDED, KICKED-OFF never called police.
6. Nick Marshall SO 4-Star # 15 CB transfer Dream Team SUSPENDED, KICKED-OFF never called police.
7. Chase Vasser SUSPENDED 2 games DUI, the DUI itself was KEPT HIDDEN for Five (5) months by Mark Richt. Excuse me, Mark Richt OWES that to us to tell us SUSPENDED, and to tell the team it is unacceptable. Instead, because it is a BIG DEAL UGA89, ALL THESE SUSPENSIONS, Mark Richt was allowed to HIDE THIS TOO for all that time. That’s NOT DISCIPLINE, as you say.
8. Bacarri Rambo SUSPENDED 4 games again Mark Richt TRIED to hide the severity of this tone too SO THAT HE WOULD NOT GET THE BAD PRESS I NOW HEAP UPON HIM for it all, now that I ALONE FIGURED OUT ALEX OGLETREE is actually the 9th Mark Richt recruit SUSPENDED 2012, along with his 29 who TRANSFERRED-OUT.
9. Sanders Commings SUSPENDED 2 games for hitting a girl.
Do you think looking at the list now as we know it, that Mark Richt went into “LET’S KEEP THIS A SECRET; IF THIS ALL GETS OUT, IT WILL BE TONS OF BAD PRESS IN THE AJ-C.”
What do you think UGA89 ? It is a BIG DEAL ? That 9 Mark Richt scholarship recruits were SUSPENDED, not 4 as the press said, and that Mark Richt purposely tried to HIDE everything about the 9 he could, so no one would do what I have now done. Note please UGA89, this after I had already exposed the 29 transfers-out. Remember ? A writer took my list and accounted for all 29. Remember that ?

I expect Florida’s defense will stuff Georgia’s running game, make them one dimensional, bring the heat on Murray and have 3 or 4 picks as Murray throws his usual rockets 5 feet over the head of receivers down the middle of the field. That’s what he does when he’s hyped up for big games. If Keith Marshall plays much Florida will likely rip one or two away from him.
Muschamp is smart enough to play it close to the vest on offense, knowing that Georgia will crack under defensive and special teams pressure with turnovers like South Carolina did. And as we’ve seen from Richt’s teams of the last few years, if they get off to a bad start, they’ll hang their heads and get steamrolled. The Gators are going to pound it and play physical on offense, knowing that Georgia’s defense won’t be able to stand up to it for more than a half. As Saban says, dominate the guy you’re playing against on every play and make his a$$ quit.
The only chance Georgia has is to make some big plays early and get up by a couple of touchdowns. They’re frontrunners, don’t have the discipline and toughness to come back from an early deficit or hold their own in a 60 minute street fight, which is what it will take against this Gator team unless they uncharacteristically turn the ball over several times.
In one year, Muschamp has taken Florida from a team that was as soft as Georgia to a tough physical team in the mold of Alabama and LSU. It’s clear that Mark Richt isn’t capable of doing that with Georgia.

I’m not sure what to expect with this game. FL struggled against Vandy and TN wore them out for 3 qtrs until FL scored 14 points in less than a minute in the 4 qtr on fluke plays. If that FL team shows up, and the Ga team that played against Vandy shows up….then it could get interesting!!! I’m on your side. I’ve read these blogs long enough that I’ve seen your list of kids suspended and/or kicked off the team multiple times. It’s embarrassing. When those defensive players start taunting the other team, just once I’d like CMR to sit their butts on the bench for a few plays until they learn that it won’t be tolerated. I have season tickets, go to every UGA/Fl game as well as the bowl game every year. I’m fed up. I do not blame the students that egged A. Murray’s house. Enough is enough.

Everything but the egging, rolling. 2 wrongs don’t make a right. The issue is that Mark Richt has failed to prepare a back-up QB again 2012, as he has failed every year since 2004 with DJ Shockley. 2004 was 9 seasons’ ago.

TB,
That quote wasn’t from me….possibly from you. To all bloggers, please note these Thomas Brown rants and long winded blogs also appear on other school sites. He has been on the GT blogs claiming to be a disgruntled Tech fan. Exact same crapola. He writes a litany of negative comments and never, never anything positive. Then he loves to “copy and paste” the same ramblings over and over…..and of course the majority of us just scroll past them and on to the next blog.

Been on this band wagon for three seasons now. Special team play far more important than what most fans think it is. Kentucky game was perfect example. We don’t have anybody capable to field punts. Most importantly knowing when to catch them and when to let them go. Kentucky pinned us deep several times with their punt team. And having kicker miss as many PAT’s as he has is crazy. Unlike the very successful SEC coaches, CMR’ chooses not to spend any time on special teams. This one small fact will once again beat us against a quality team. Book It !

UGA89 = Thomas Brown. And both need their morning meds!!!
You have got to be kidding me about thinking it was OK to “egg” Murray’s house!!!
Please tell me you are kidding! No true Dawg fan would condone that type of behavior under any circumstance. It tells me a lot about your “value system”……which sucks!

Georgia should have had 43 points on Kentucky– two TD drops. Remember: Ga played AT USC, USC played AT LSU and Fla. Too bad Greg McGarity still has UGA going TO Fla. forever. Not conceding anything to Fla. this year.

I agree, this is a crazy season and I’m not about to throw in the towel. The Gators look great, but they have also looked weak in several games…..kinda like us.

@Joe Bob
You have been posting that same score on several other blogs using a different “Latino” name. Sounds like you may be schizophrenic!!!
