Mark Richt and Dogs beat Florida last season but they're underdogs this year. (Jason Getz/AJC)
Remember how high optimism was about Georgia football before this season? Well, that seems to have eroded.
The recent loss to South Carolina, several unimpressive victories – including the latest win at Kentucky — and a perceived talent-loaded defense that hasn’t nearly lived up to expectations has led to many Georgia fans expecting the worst when the Bulldogs face Florida in Jacksonville next Saturday.
How do I know this? Because when I relayed via Twitter that Florida was anywhere from a 3½ to 4½ point favorite at most sportsbooks, the responses could all be reduced down to these three words: “Is that all?”
In fact, as I type this, I have yet to find a reader who would take that bet (Georgia plus the points).
Georgia is 3-8 against Florida under Mark Richt, including last year’s win. But Florida is 7-0, ranked No. 2 in the BCS standings and destroyed South Carolina 44-11.
On Betonline.com, the Gators opened as 3½ point favorites, the line dropped to 3, then went up to 4½. Vegasinsider.com lists the consensus line at 3.5. The Las Vegas Wynn opened with Florida at 4½ and it went up to 5.
Here is the early feedback on the point spread. Feel feel to weigh in below with your thoughts and I’ve put up a simple poll question: Does Georgia win or lose?

BugKiller’s comment (in article) doesn’t make any sense: why would keeping the line close make people more likely to bet on georgia? that said I would touch this game w/a 10′ pole at any line! gators could massacre dawgs but georgia has a weird habit of showing up when you least expect it (like last yr’s sec game) & florida could think this one’s a gimmie… what’s the over/under on DUIs after game? I’d feel a lot safer betting on that one!

Nothing like the weekdays before the Georgia vs. Florida game………but this is the most negative I have ever seen Dawg fans be going into this game. 6-1 and #10 in th BCS…..and a legit shot at beating Florida and going to the SEC championship game…….and many of you want to fire your coaches. Wow. No…..amazing. Florida was worse last year going into this game……and I was on here posting that I thought the Gators would win….even with a QB on one leg…..and they almost did. Got to be positive and supportive of your team…..always. No so, it seems, in Dawg land, when their team is this close to goint to the SEC title game….which could put you in the NC game if you can beat the team from the West. But you just want to FIRE all your coaches. If you think Georgia will come into JAX and play anything like they did vs. Kentucky or SC even….you are really in dreamland. Georgia will bring its A or A plus game….I promise you……and so will Florida….its going to be fun….and one of us will have bragging rights for an entire year. Go Gators.

mcgarity and richt need to demand that the game be moved to georgia every other year. florida has a big home field advantage, being an hour from gainesville and a short bus ride for the players. Ga players have to bus to atlanta, fly to jacksonville and get another bus to the hotel, which wears them out. fla has all the advantages playing in jacksonville and it has to stop, asap!

What a come down those games will be. They should have played those games earlier in the year instead of A&M and Tennessee. But I guess they were trying to fit A&M into a SEC schedule. Mark Richt is no Vince Lombardi, that is for certain with his 16 losses the last 18 games vs teams making the top 25 and with his 14 losses the last 17 games vs teams making the top 10. Laughing coming off the field against Kentucky, shows again that since Kathryn Richt was diagnosed with Cancer on May 2, 2006, he doesn’t care about beating top teams anymore. With good reason. There are other things that are more important to him than Football any longer. No need to send the Mark Richt of prior to May 2, 2006 to Athens. He has had a SEE – significant emotional event. Football is irrelevant any longer. Obviously.

Even though UGA is 3 point underdog, I like UGA. Murray is probably the most on fire QB in the country right now, player of the week in the SEC. Guys learned how to beat Muschamp in 2011, protect the ball, stop the run, and stay balanced. Florida isn’t built to pass, they are a lot like Georgia Tech in that regard, and Richt’s 10-1 vs. Tech, and 1-0 vs. Muschamp. Richt rips up 1 dimensional offenses.

I’m as pissed as anyone about how the dogs have played lately, but there’s nothing like the GA FLA game and anything is possible. If we can finally come together on defense and click this weekend, which we are capable of doing, we can win this game, because GA is way better on offense than FLA. I’m not taking anything away from FLA’s win over SC, because it was a great win for them, but the difference in that game was the turnovers. Driskell had 4 TD passes, yet threw for less than 100 yards and FLA had less than 200 yards of total offense, which is hardly impressive.
My point of all this is that FLA won the turnover battle, which mostly occurred early in the game, which allowed them to get up on SC early at home, making it nearly impossible for any visiting team to recover from in the SEC.
I will say that it didn’t help SC that Connor Shaw had his worst game of the season by far, as he missed wide open receivers multiple times. Against GA, he had precision accuracy. If he is able to hit on a few of those over thrown passes, SC could have gotten back into the fight. Bottom line, FLA is a good team, but truly benefited from early turnovers to gain the early momentum, but understand this, they are no where near 33 points better that SC. If those same 2 teams were to play again this weekend, SC could easily win by the same margin… it just wasn’t their day on that particular Sat.
With that being said, FLA’ a little overrated, based on their recent performances over LSU and SC and GA is a little under rated, based on their piss poor play recently, so I predict that it will be a much better game than most people think and it will come down to who can gain the early momentum, because the fan base is a 50/50 split.
Prediction GA 20 FLA 14 (Morgan misses at least one extra point)

And, poor little Fred comes in here and says after Florida we only have to win 2 games to win the national championship. You berate him for that, like you berate EVERY poster on this blog. When you yourself prove you are a total idgit.
Maybe if he isn’t assuming that we beat Florida as you would certainly be telling him he should be feeling about Florida, since you won’t let me post how poorly we look compared to Florida in week # 9, he should have said that we need to win 3 games : Florida, Alabama and the BCS National Championship Game. But, if he did assume a win over Florida as you tell me I should be posting about Georgia with our 1 good game we’ve played all season against only Vandie; his comment is accurate that we only need 2 wins.
Maybe if he means 2 wins from playing for the national championship by beating Florida and Alabama, he’s right on that, too.

“We are 2 wins away from the national championship!!!!!!!!”

Your reply in any case was that we have to win more than 2 games to play for the national championship.
Really ?
We play the # 108 strength of schedule all 2012, and after Florida the only teams left are :
4-3 Ole Miss
1-6 Auburn
3-4 Georgie tek
0-0 Georgia Southern 1-AA no 1-A teams they play all 2012 except us
You blithering blathering fool, do you really expect us to lose these 4 ? First you tell us all to post nothing but positive posts about Georgia, then you tell us that Florida has too many positive posts about Florida for them to win Saturday, and now you follow those words of wisdom up with we have to win 6 games to play for the national championship, not 2, when 4 are not worthy opponents for a Top 10 BCS Ranked Georgia Bulldogs Football team today, jerk.
I would not put a whole lot of stock in what DawgNole says. After all, he posted earlier that 0-4 in The SEC Mizzou would be the measure of how great Mark Richt’s team would be this season. And, DawgNole said :

“Mark Richt beats the pansies and loses to the others.”

If I am supposed to be so positive, where is the positive nature in saying “Mark Richt beats the pansies and loses to the others” ?
Call me an idiot for reading your posts you yourself write, but for the life of me I cannot see where you are so damn smart twit.
