Falcons are easy highlight in Atlanta’s dark sports weekend

WASHINGTON, D.C. – After another playoff cameo role by the Braves on Friday and the ugliness by whatever remains of Georgia and Georgia Tech on a college football Saturday, the Falcons didn’t need to accomplish much Sunday to achieve some degree of popularity.

Almost anything north of humiliation would’ve been an improvement.

They provided more than that. They won.

They weren’t great. The quarterback threw a pick-six in the second quarter. A fumbled snap ended their next possession. The offense made the NFL’s 29th ranked defense look almost impressive at times. The defense allowed Washington’s far lesser of two rookie quarterbacks, Kirk Cousins to throw a 77-yard touchdown pass (and he hadn’t taken a snap all season).

So they weren’t perfect. Or close. And yet: They’re still perfect.

They rallied with a 17-point fourth quarter to beat the Washington Redskins 24-17.

They are 5-0 for the first time in franchise history — this after being 4-0 for only the third time in franchise history. Suddenly, they are punching through ceilings.

Are they great? No. It’s a little early to phone Don Shula and ask if he’s worried about the Falcons posing a threat to the 1972 Miami Dolphins. (Hey, once you win five, how tough can 11 more be?) But in the last two games against Carolina and Washington, the Falcons managed to pull out victories in games where they seemed less than whole. That is something that really good (and potentially great) teams do.

“I’ve said since the beginning of the season that this is the best team I’ve been on as a Falcon,” said tight end Tony Gonzalez. “It might be the best team I’ve ever been on as a player. But it doesn’t mean anything? No. It feels good to be 5-0, but I’ve been 9-0 and lost in the first round of the playoffs [in Kansas City in 2003]. So we just have to go one week at a time. I know that doesn’t sound sexy but it is what it is. We’ve got a target on our back now.”

The Falcons: The hunted. Let that sink in. There’s only one other unbeaten team left — Houston (4-0), which plays Monday night.

When the NFL schedule has stretched into the second month and a team still hasn’t lost, nit-picking should be held to a minimum.

“They’re playing with a tenacity I haven’t seen in the last couple of years,” said former running back Warrick Dunn, now one of the team’s minority owners. “They’re playing with aggressiveness. When you win games where you really don’t play that great, it’s a positive sign. It shows that you can respond to adversity. That means something as you move down the road and the games get bigger.”

The Falcons sputtered offensively until late in the third quarter. The exception was Gonzalez, who had one of those just-stupid-great games: 13 catches, 123 yards, one touchdown, as a 36-year-old. The Redskins were intent on bracketing Roddy White and Julio Jones on the outside but they couldn’t do anything about Gonzalez in the belly of their defense.

In the Falcons’ first five possessions, they had three punts and two turnovers. They had only seven points after eight drives, but started to take over late in the third.

“What do you want talk to us for — we stunk,” White joked when media approached.

Not coincidentally, the momentum shifted  after Washington quarterback Robert Griffin III was knocked out of the game by Sean Weatherspoon. (It was a clean hit: Weatherspoon crashed into Griffin as the rookie ran out of the pocket and was sliding down. The back of Griffin’s head appear to come down on Jonathan Babineaux, causing a concussion.) Cousins took advantage of a breakdown in the secondary, throwing a 77-yard TD pass to Santana Moss. But Matt Bryant tied it at 17-17 with a 53-yard field goal and Michael Turner’s 13-yard touchdown with 2:46 left gave the Falcons the lead.

The best teams find a way to get it done.

“It’s the first time since I’ve been here that we’re just going out there and expecting to win,” White said.

That’s five out of five. And this weekend, the Falcons were the city’s shining light.

We’ll need constant adjustments, make sure to study the tape, and don’t get complacent.
Tough stretch of opponents coming up: Philadelphia, NO (they’re 0-4 but always play us tough).

JSS the Troll is here because he was an abject failure in a former life, has drifted through a couple of “downsizings” since then, and is a miserable excuse of a human being.

He’s one of those guys who has no idea why his “brilliance” isn’t more appreciated by everyone who’s ever known him.

It’s obvious how much he thinks of his own fake brand of google-search-related intelligence. So much so as he refers to one of the most respected men in all of the NFL, and the best GM this team as ever had as “the boy genius,” with a kind of dismissiveness reserved for people of actual acumen and intelligence, of which this troll has none.

He finds no joy in the shrinking circle of people who still put up with him, so this waste of space continues to invade these blogs, trying to suck all of the joy and happiness out of everyone else. If he’s a miserable craphole, well, by God, everyone else must suffer, too.

JSS is a troll, and the absolute worst kind of troll there is. He’s worse than the very worst basement-dwelling fanboys who populate internet forums the ‘net over.

He’s a pathetic waste of humanity. Only deriving pleasure by deriding others in the very blogs he populates day after day after day, “gracing” us with his wonderful presence. Sad, sad little pitiable man.

Not a Vick hater. We need to see another QB. Can’t keep leaving points on the field with redzone turnovers. Maybe Foles can perform better. He may be able to see the field unlike Vick. We’ll never know unless he is tried.

Matt Ryan engineered his 18th career game-winning drive in the fourth quarter or overtime during Sunday’s win against the Redskins. That’s the most in the league since 2008 and the most ever by a QB in his first five seasons since 1966.
Here’s where Ryan ranks:
Quarterback Comebacks 1st Season
Matt Ryan 18 2008
Ben Roethlisberger 16 2004
Peyton Manning 16 1998
Jake Plummer 16 1997

“@JSS, as you probably know, this Falcons team is far from perfect and could easily be 3-2 or 2-3. What do you think they need to change to see some post season success? Do you think its even possible for this squad to win in the playoffs? The most glaring problem that I see with this team is the Run D.”
________________________________________
Will you have your arms around cusp of what their problems will be once they reach the playoffs, that is run defense. I’ve been flogged on these blogs since day one because I believe that it is the way that you beat them. In the regular season, teams will tend to maintain some level of offense balance, however as the Giants and the Texans showed in the post season, if you know that it is a teams weakness go after it… The thing that makes them vulnerable is that the three teams who are starting to separate themselves within their divisions (San Francisco, Chicago, and Minnesota) all have extremely proficient running games.

In terms of the offense, fans are going to see the same thing that happened coincidentally 2 2003 Kansas City Chiefs, they were team that could throw the ball vertically and intermediately. They also had Priest Holmes at the zenith of his career. So despite the 2 passes “deep,” they’ve still not made teams fear their deep game… The saving grace has been Gonzalez in the 10 to 20 yard range. As far as Matt Ryan and playoffs, there is a danger of the overreaction for quote unquote explosive plays. It is too late to improve personnel and by that I mean the interior lines both offensive and defensive. So you have to count on scheme. That’s only worked for one team (where it seemed just to really lacked talent), the injury depleted 2010 Green Bay Packers during their run. If the throws 52 times in a playoff game, they’ll be going home. Come the playoffs they must have run-pass balance otherwise they’ll be courting disaster…

So the short answer is they must keep things in third and very long defensively (plays to the scheme). They have to pray that they don’t see a team with 2 legitimate tight-ends for a quarterback that make the safeties commit to pass coverage. And they must hope that teams do not commit to run to their middle or their right.

So far, so good. A fun way to start the season, and curb the Braves Blues. I certainly hope they can keep it together and stay under 3 or 4 (…or even LESS) in the loss column overall by regular season’s end. It’ll be fun to see how they handle Oakland next week before going into their bye. Well done, Falcons! Rising up BIG TIME!

Enjoyed the Birds in person today. They overcame a couple of big plays and gutted it out. Skins fans/stadium were deflated after Cundiff’s miss. Matt Bryant’s bomb was huge. Great win on the road. (PS – Dateline should be Landover, Md., not Washington, D.C.)

We can only hope that it’ll be fun next week. Definitely a trap game–coming home from a big, emotional road win to face an underachieving Raider team, with a bye week on the horizon. The benefits of victory next week would be enormous.

It amazing you don’t hear the Steelers fans talking about they ring. Oh wait, they have 6 of them. Or what about the Patriots? The Saint are the only Super Bowl winner with a asterisk. The only thing the Saint going to win this year is the 2013 number 1 draft pick. At least they going to come out of this season with one upside.

Not sure what it is about Ryan this year, but I feel that he will lead us to victory every week. He’s been the field general that we’ve been waiting for him to become. Watch Brady or the Mannings. Ryan has become a very good QB.

If they win that first playoff game, something tells me he’ll become a great one in February!

Falcons need to get back to dominating opponents, the past few games they have looked skittish against the running game, perhaps that had a lot to do with facing running QBs….

…Improved job of pass protection for Matt Ryan, who continues to show great accuracy in his passes. Next week’s game against Oakland cannot be taken lightly and going into the bye week with at least a 4 game lead will be a must considering they will be facing high quality opponents (Phi, Dal, NO, Arizona) going forward.

Jeff Schultz : Steve Spurrier should take a lesson from Mark Richt ?

Where is your blog AFTER the game about that Jeff Schultz ?

CUPCAKES : We now return you to our quest for the most CUPCAKES on any schedule in the history of man. Thank you Greg McGarity. Kentucky is next. For beating 5 unranked teams and for being schooled in the blow-out loss to Steve Spurrier 7-35, we’re ranked # 14 in the AP Poll. Obviously, a loss to Florida would drop us down to about # 25. Spurrier called off the dogs, and emptied the bench at the 10:45 mark in the game, ahead 0-35.

Spurrier, who has averaged the # 20 Recruiting Ranking by Scout.com starting 2005 when he got to South Carolina, has a 4-4 Record against Mark Richt who has averaged the # 8 Recruiting Class starting 2005 when Spurrier got to South Carolina.

Ben Dukes says Aaron Murray, 21-12 as UGA Starting Quarterback, has got to move on – go – leave – quit, not be our Quarterback. Connor Shaw is now 13-1 as Steve Spurrier’s Quarterback.

# 87 NCAA Official Strength of Schedule for 2012, Greg McGarity has us with not one meaningful game at Home all Season at Sanford Stadium.

Aaron Murray was incorrect in his BRAGGING pre-game :

2013, we lose the entire Defense and play Alabama.

I am not into rubbing their bottoms, patting their heads, holding their hands, and telling them how great they are or how many cupcakes they can beat from here on out, when they lay an egg 0-35 before Steve Spurrier empties his bench.

Mark Richt said his team was not FLAT Saturday.

South Carolina scored 35 points to nothing before Steve Spurrier with 10:45 left in the game emptied the bench. Our Special Teams still made up of mostly walk-ons gave up another punt return for a TD of 70 yards. And, our Offense could not score the whole game until Steve Spurrier emptied the bench and even then it took until 1:55 left in the game to score.

The Falcons are not a perfect team but they don’t lose games like the one in Washington on Sunday afternoon. It wasn’t pretty, or clean, and it turned into a battle of wills and who wanted it more. Mike Smith has his team primed for just that type of battle. Lets just hope that the run D can improve and that Ryan can continue to play at a high level. Maybe we can get a shot to erase some demons in the GaDome come January. Thanks Falcons for giving us something to believe in after our other local boys got booted over the weekend! Rise – Up!

Great win Falcons, Matt Ryan made some very solid throws in the game, if we can beat the Raiders we will be 6-0 into the bye week. As for the Dawgs that was miserable, that team is a reflection of Mark Richt, a heck of a nice man but a meek and quiet football coach.

If we pay close attention to 2012 opposing defenses scheme vs the Falcons, teams haven’t changed that much from 2011. Ryan arms strength has changed…………………..

When sport journalists ask Matt Ryan about his zip on his throws, Ryan down play his new found arm strength……Ryan gives modest responses or moots the ideal about his offseason workout contributing to the noticeable difference in his passing game……..

Consider the throw to Roddy(59yd Bomb) vs. the Panthers, Ryan was ask if he would have made that throw last season…..Ryan answered yes,,,,saying he always have confidence in his ability to throw deep…….WRONG ANSWER!!!!!!!

There are many games from last season that will refute Ryan’s yes……..Poignantly, the playoff game vs the Giants, when the Falcons offense(0pts) fail to outscore Falcons Defense(2pts).

RYAN’S OFFSEASON WORKOUT HAS COUNTERED OPPOSING TEAMS DEFENSIVE SCHEMES AGAINST HIM……….TEAMS CAN NO LONGER AFFORD TO PLAY 8 MEN IN THE BOX AGAINST THE FALCONS……OR RYAN AND HIS RECEIVERS ARE VERY LIKELY TO BURN THE DEFENSES AGAINST THAT SCHEME….

RYAN’S ARM STRENGTH HAS MUCH IMPROVED…….THE 59yd BOMB TO RODDY TRAVELED WITH VELOCITY BETWEEN TWO DEFENDERS………THE THROW DIDN’T TRAVEL LIKE A PUNT OR BLIMP THAT RYAN’S DEEP THROWS DID LAST YEAR…..

ALL ALONG, I HAVE SAID THAT RYAN IS ONE OF THE MOST CEREBRAL QUARTERBACKS IN THE NFL,,BUT HIS ARM WAS MEDIOCRE OR JUST ABOVE AVERAGE AT BEST………

NOW, RYAN CONSISTENTLY PUT ZIP ON HIS PASSES….WHY? HIS OFFSEASON STRENGTHENING……….HOPEFULLY, RYAN CONTINUE TO STRENGHTHEN HIS BODY….

Falcons on three, DOMINATE!!!!!!

I enjoyed watching UGA getting stomped on Saturday. I love to read the idiot UGA fan every season enjoy their 2 and 3 loss seasons every year expecting next year’s team during the off season to win a national championship. The stupidity of expecting a second rate head coach, a third rate offensive coordinator and a reject Dallas Cowboy defensive coach to win a National Championship is beyond me. I read where one of the above entries (Dawgdad The Original), who is obviously a frustrated Tea Bagger, compare it to a so called Presidential Debate the other night. I laugh at you sir for being foolish enough to support a State institution that hired a drunk, adulterer and wanna be athlete as it’s AD. UGA will never win a National Championship without major changes in the administration.

Yes, the Falcons are 5 and 0. So what. I’ll save my expectations until January when the playoffs are here. That’s when the great teams get it done. I admire an owner that has changed the losing culture of this franchise. I admire an owner that now wants more than just winning seasons and nothing afterward. I admire an owner that won’t except an also ran. He makes changes. Think about it Dawgdad The Original. Your stupidity as a Tea Bagger is insulting to bring politics into this blog. There are other sections in this website where you can shoot your stupid and mindless political crap as you please. We’re sports fans here. Respect that. If you can’t then I’ll come back every day to this site and debate your UGA support into the ground.

Great comeback Falcons. Defense is getting better every week. Offense is finding ways to get the ball in the endzone when the opponent takes away your two star receivers and ground game. The Falcons are using all the roster. Teams win championships. Bring on the Raiders.

Excited the Falcons are 5-0. I hope they win them all. But look at the facts – they have only beaten 1 team with a winning record so far. And let’s not forget 2 years ago – the best record in the NFC. Sports Fans – it’s all about winning in the Playoffs – so far they have none in the Smith era.

East Atlanta Ron

October 8th, 2012
9:30 am

Before the city gets caught up in the hysteria of being 5-0, let’s step back and reflect on what should be the real goal of professional football teams… winning a Super Bowl…. Thus far the Falcons have only played one team that will smell the post season. By the way, that one team (the Chargers) just lost to a team that had not found a W this season (the Saints). As I’ve stated in the past, in the NFL, stopping the run and being able to run the ball still rules. If you look at the Falcons objectively, those weaknesses will come back to haunt this team. Based on the weaklings in the NFC South, the Atlanta Falcons should have at least a 13-3 record at the end of the regular season, but I don’t think the Falcons will be ready for the post season. I’ve seen blog entries even mentioning the possibility of the Falcons finishing 15-1. The Packers were 15-1 last year. Ask the Packer fans if last season was a successful season. I’m sure you already know the answer. I’ve lived in Atlanta since 1967 and I’ve followed the Braves, Falcons and Hawks for decades. At the end of the day, if your team isn’t the last team standing, the season ends on a sour note. I’m so over regular wins over inferior opponents being glamorized. By the way, the Oakland Raiders are another inferior opponent from the worst division in the NFL, so don’t bother shouting about being 6-0 next Monday. In closing, the initial East Atlanta Ron Top 5 for 2012-2013 is provided below…

1. 49ers
2. Texans
3. Patriots
4. Giants (sorry guys, the NY Football Giants have a better pedigree for now)
5. Falcons

The Falcons and Eagles go head to head with both teams having a BYE the week before.
We get the Cardinals in Week 11 coming off of their BYE.
We get the Caints 4 days after we play the Bucs in Week 12. 10 days later we play Carolina at home.

AMEN Brother….Preach on!

Falcants fans are such hypocrites……………..

On one hand they say CHOKE is elite…………….

On the other hand they say Vick was a loser……………

So tell me this: If CHOKE is elite & Vick is a loser………….

Why was his playoff record 2-2 and a championship game and CHOKE

is 0-3?

And not only is he 0-3, but he has been out scored 102-47.

Hypocrites only talk loud but in the end actions have the final word

and CHOKE and his 72 million dollar contract has been out performed

by a 30 million dollar contract in Baltimore……………

THIS IS WHY CHOKE FAILS IN THE PLAYOFFS:

They get soft regular season schedules and comes playoff time

they think they can do the same things to the elite teams that

they got lucky with the weak teams. Here is an example:

Compare the top 3 teams that Philly has played vs Falcants:

Philly…..Ravens (12-4) Steelers (12-4) Giants (Superbowl Champs)

Falcants…Denver (8-8) Chargers (8-8) Chiefs (7-9)

Being 5-0 and stacking wins vs weak teams will not make them

battle ready. Now take teams like Philly, who are playing playoff

elite quality teams, so comes playoff time they will already have

been tested. Falcants on the other hand, CHOKE will once again

experience the Deer meets Headlights Syndrone………….

Why is Ryan elite and Vick is a loser?

Because Ryan is 2nd in QB rating, has 13 TDs and 3 INTs, and his team is 5-0 BECAUSE of him.

Vick is 24th in QB rating, has 6 TDs and 6 INTs, and his team is 3-2 DESPITE him. And he doesn’t look at game film because he’s stupid and lazy.

And Ryan has never been in prison.

Isn’t it true that CHOKE failed to get a single point in last

This past week was hard for “Georgia” fans to handle except, of course, for the Falcon’s.
The Braves…well when your super star starts with a really bad error so what did we expect after one more really bad error by a “pro” and another by a rookie who I guess didn’t know how to run to first base. That set the tone and the Cards walked right in where we feared to tread. I can’t comment on the Tech and Dog things except to say they are
alwful looking when they lose. As for the Falcon’s well the sign of a good (almost) great pro football team is that they win even when they are doing many bad things. I was almost astounded when they turned it around and folks, you half-to-know they are now in the books at 5-0 and the Saints ain’t! As for baseball now…. who cares!

I’m not lashing out at you, Choke. I’m lashing out at your hero, who squandered his God-given talents because of laziness, sloth, stupidity, and disrespect for the law, not to mention downright cruelty to animals; and in the process, he also squandered my hometown city’s #1 draft pick, made a coach resign in disgrace and disgust, and set a franchise back 5 years.

I don’t understand how you can refuse to understand the Falcons did what they had to do, and how much better off they are for the FUTURE — not the past — because they replaced Vick with a QB with a strong work ethic and leadership quality.

Your hatred of a good man in Ryan is childish, unfounded and based solely in jealousy. Your comments are offensive, redundant, and non-constructive.

You’re right about another thing, Choke. Atlanta is a losing city. There’s no doubt about that. The Braves in 1995 is all we’ve ever had to hang our hats on. We have suffered longer and harder than fans of any other city. But some of us were born and raised here, and the teams here are all we’ve got. Some jump on the bandwagon of winning franchises like the Cowboys and Yankees, but winning, when it finally comes, will be 100% sweeter to those of us who remained loyal to our hometown through the bad times.

Now, the Falcons are off to their best start ever. Damn right we’re happy.

If it pains you so much, why don’t you switch to the Philly blogs and say something positive about your boy, instead of constantly being a downer here.

Yeah, Vick was good when he was 22, because he had a God-given gift — he could run faster than anyone else in the league, and had a cannon for an arm.

He’s also incredibly stupid and lazy. He admitted to Jim Mora in an interview that he never watched game film when he was in Atlanta. Then there was the dog-killing and prison.

This is your role model?

He is not nearly as fast anymore. He is not improving. He is a shell of the player he was then.

Hey Y’all:

“ONE HEARTBEAT, BABY!!”. Our Falcons played with “ONE HEARTBEAT!!!. That’s all I have to say. They played TOGETHER. They played STRONG. They played MAD. And they played NASTY. Now they are playing CONSISTANT. That is what is developing in the “PROCESS” of our Atlanta Falcons getting to the SUPER BOWL. We have had the first in many things since Coach Smith and Dimitroff have come to Atlanta: The first back to back winning seasons. The first 4-0 record. And now the first 5-0 record in Atlanta Falcon history. The “PROCESS” is continuing GROWING into our being the first Atlanta FALCON team to win the SUPER BOWL. We are “ONE”.

I am loving the “PROCESS”. I see the players that they drafted growing and showing their skills at a high level. I see the veterans they signed playing at a HIGHER LEVEL. I see the coaches the coaches “COORDINATING” and enjoying the talent they have with they “SCHEMES” they are using to “DEFEAT” teams. I see the OWNERS and the GM”s “LOVING ” what they “ENVISION” of how they want an Atlanta “SUPER BOWL” team to look like. The “CHEMISTRY” on this team is “ONE HEARTBEAT!!!” And we the FANS, THE COMMUNITY, AND THE LOCAL MEDIA ARE PART OF IT. Every game the team is getting better and better in understanding the new coaches system that Coach Smith believes is going to get us to the next level on a consistant basis. They are putting a “GREAT PRODUCT” on the field. The players appeared to have bought into the system and, AS A TEAM, are excelling individually, and AS A “TEAM”. Every game is exciting this season, No “BORING” stuff. I can feel the CONFIDENCE, NASTINESS, AND SWAG that this team is becoming. By season end, there will be Christmas gifts for all off us comming into the New Year. It will be a “POWERFUL” team continuing its drive to take care of “UNFINSHED BUSINESS” on its quest to the SUPER BOWL. Tony Gonzaalez said it best, “ONE GAME AT A TIME”. Yeah, “ONE GAME AT A TIME IN “ONE HEARTBEAT!!”. Its time to hit these NFL teams in the mouth with a “THUMP!!”. Can you hear it “THUMP!!”. IT”S GETTING LOUDER!!!! THUMP!!! THUMP!!!! “ONE HEARTBEAT, BABY!!!!”

GO FALCONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

THE “PROCESS” CONTINUES TO THE SUPER BOWL. THUMP!!

The Hawks were playing basketball ? Is that what that was when I was changing channels. That team is going nowhere. They have nothing.

The only team in this area with it going on, is the Falcons’ team, and them only because Arthur Blank spends the money.

Georgia just takes the money and gives it to Mike Adam$. And, Georgia has a ton of money, the most profitable athletics program in the nation.

Georgie tek cannot give away tickets to their “games” losing to Middle Tennessee college who got blown out by 4 touchdowns by a nobody team this weekend.

Braves has horrid ownership, no manager, a great GM who has his hands tied and unable to spend money to get the holes filled.

You have holes on sports teams. It what you do to fill the voids that makes the difference. Here at UGA Mark Richt signed 107 players to play 2012, and is down to 66 scholarship players plus 1 transfer-in and we wonder why we cannot compete ? He ran them all off by not playing them. Like Chris Conley and like he’s doing to Jay Rome and whoever his back-up QB is because the only 1 he plays loses every big game. 0-10 vs teams who made the top 25, even. I mean great scott, we’re All-Time Top 10 College Football program in wins. How can we be 3 wins 17 games against teams who made the top 10 all 12 years now of nice guy, lousy coach, lousy staff as Falcons’ fans here keeping point out to us, and a quarterback who got his house egged and rolled yesterday.

I am supposed to feel sorry for them ?

At least we have the Falcons to watch. That’s fun. I really gave up on the Falcons 40 years ago, but I pay some passing interest to it.

As you UGA, How dare yall get my hopes up by starting off in the TOP 10, getting as high as number 5, and come out and get mali whoped by Spurrier and Cocky(again). Its like yall do this type of thing on purpose every year just to piss your fans off. Im starting to believe itll never be meant to be and yall wil always be “one or two” players or plays away. Think about it: in half of thre time Mark Richt has had, Spurrier has pushed freakin SOUTH CAROLINA ahead of us. SMH what a shame!—————-

“JSS just has sour grapes about the entire Vick saga and feels that the Falcons would have been better off had they waited for vick to get out of prison. lol.”

Funny how you make assumptions that you’ve obviously transfer from your failed arguments across the internet and try to transfer on to me… I gave up on the Falcons on January 7, 2007, Vick was still the starting QB and was nowhere near Leavenworth…

As far as your “Flacco” comment, he’s been the best bargain in the NFL since Brady’s rookie contract expired… They saved $40 million towards their cap, they were able to afford more than adequate pieces that has allowed them to score more than 24 points 4 years ago as their high water mark in playoff scoring… Let’s see, 4 straight years of playoff (of course you’ll credit the defense) since 2008. Since 2010 playoffs ended, 7 TDs and 2 INTs in 4 playoffs games… What’s Ryan done? Well 3 TDs and 4 INTs including a pick 6… Enjoy your Ryan ride, but next time leave out of your fantasy arguments that you’ve had with others… Trent Green had great years too, how many playoff games did he win?

Now take teams like Philly, who are playing playoff elite quality teams, so comes playoff time they will already have been tested.

In all honesty, MCR’s trolling is the same rhetoric over and over to the point of spam. If Jeff and Mark would just ban the guy from the blogs, there’d be less spam, less baiting, less language issues, and less name jacking.

Sure don’t seem like it. If you gave up on them, you wouldn’t be here commenting on almost every article of which they are the subject. You have your right to a negative opinion, but dont sit there and try to feed us that BS. You have a vested interest in the Falcons similar to that of MCR’s, except MCR has the cojones to tell us.

There is a strange assertion. Look I will not go over this again. Because each time it is going over old ground. I have stated over 10 times why I gave up my season tickets which I had held for nearly 2 decades when the Falcons hired Bobby Petrino.

The Atlanta Falcons are a part of the National Football League. My “vested interest” is the National Football League. Here’s the difference, you don’t get this type of silliness on the blogs of columnists in the cities who have franchises in NFL or CFL… You’re the only people who don’t get that point. If you guys want same speak, there are a actual “fan blogs” where moderators have and will give you just that. You don’t see it on Boston Globe, Pittsburgh Gazette, Washington Post, Miami Herald, or the countless other sports pages which allow commenting.

I have a friend who runs a Steelers specific blog, he gets the hoot out of the level of acrimony that he sees in the screenshots that I sent him regarding Falcons blogs… So, if you’re being fed ” BS” you must have gone to your local Ace Hardware and bought the stuff. That’s not a pretty picture.

There is no acrimony from me towards you JSS. I understand where you come from and I respect your opinions. You are only Falcons “hater” (for the lack of a better word) here that we can have a civil conversation with without mindless back and forth drivel being posted and because of that, I didnt buy the fact you stopped caring for this team (which explains my last post). Ive been wanting to ask, Have you chosen another team to affiliate with, since you no longer share a connection with the Falcons? Or do you just watch games for the sake of entertainment now?

You feel like the commenters on this blog who are affiliated with the Falcons are acrimonious towards the commenters who have a differing opinion about the Falcons. I think thats true only because the folks with the differing opinions post the same drivel over and over and over again and are unwilling to debate.

You were a Falcons fan once, how would you respond to these folks who are unwilling to debate? I bet it would be somewhat acrimonious.

Again, you are covering “old ground.” I can less who wins or loses games on Thursday, Sunday, or Monday in the NFL. The NFL is neither sport nor entertainment. It is a huge business masquerading as a spectator sport. I don’t hate the Atlanta Falcons. I do have a strong dislike for how they operate their organization. It is a miniature version of the seedy side of the New England operation. They withhold information, the treatment of certain past employees who were nothing but loyal to the organization (see Emmitt Thomas and Rod Medlin) was abysmal. I certainly will leave that disgrace of a training staff out of this today. The final straw is the pure backwash that the new stadium deal is going to leave on each and every person traveling, visiting, or renting a vehicle subsidizing a billionaire!

I follow the NFL as a business. I grew up around the league. Said it a million times, People like Tommy Hart, Julius Adams, Fred Hoaglin, James Brooks, and Roger Jackson have framed what I learned and know about the game. As inept as the Smith family was, they were rarely just driven by the bottom line. That was one of the calculated risks I took when I first started buying season tickets. Their flirtations with Jacksonville were stupid, the city did need a better facility that old Fulton County Stadium. They could be comically stupid, Glanville and Campbell, but they never sold their soul to a person like Petrino. All professional sports is one thing, an artificial alignment. The artificial alignment of allegiances is ancillary thing. Let Blank die or grow tired of losing wives, he’ll sell your allegiance down the river as 30 of the 32 owners would in a heart beat… The game, I watch them simply for strategy, approaches, and who executes it in any given… The adjustments, the problem is if you turn into a “sport” it is takes on a artificial gravitas!

That all sounds real good JSS,, Yes, all professional sports are a business. The purpose of a business is to make MONEY. So glad you were able to figure that out Einstein, now why are you here?

JSS

Sorry to tell you this, but there are different types of businesses. And they are all not solely “to make money.” Take a minute to read the NFL mission statement and why its a 501 (c) 6 organization. You bandy around terms of assumptions that sound good in high school economic classes, but aren’t true in the real business or tax world. Now, that does not mean that their are not owners who are greedy (Jones, Blank, Johnson, and Glazer) beyond their requirements of the League’s profit sharing responsibilities in terms of exploiting wider revenue opportunities or streams. But be under no illusions, excluding Major League baseball, none of the North American professional sports league operate as for-profit businesses…

“there”…

And so understand what non-profit business league or trade association means here’s the excerpt from the IRS code… If you didn’t know, the NFL doesn’t pay federal business or income taxes…
Section 501(c)(6) provides exemption from taxation for business leagues, not organized for profit and no part of the net earnings of which inures to the benefit of any private shareholder or individual.

Section 1.501(c)(6)-1 provides that a business league is an association of persons having some common business interest, the purpose of which is to promote such common interest and not to engage in a regular business of a kind ordinarily carried on for profit. A business league’s activities should be directed to the improvement of business conditions of one or more lines of business as distinguished from the performance of particular services for individual persons.

Sorry to cover old ground JSS. I knew these blogs existed but I never paid attention to the commenters until now. I spend most of the time on the ESPN blogs.

I’m whole-heartedly against the new stadium Deal if it means that Atlanta throws ANY tax dollars their way. If Blank wantas a new stadium, he needs to pay for 100% of it. If he is unwilling, the Dome is just fine.

JSS

October 9th, 2012

Too late, the money has been and remain allocated for Blank’s stadium. The cusp of it now is all how much we as taxpayers (and despite claims to contrary, I pay real estate, income and sales taxes in GA) much of the pie will go to give revenue to Blank… He’s using the good credit of the State of Georgia to gain advantages in contracts, land acquisitions, and bank terms… It’s called picking winners and losers…

bring that talent to the surface. Which is it? Either the players can,t play or the coaches can,t coach.
