Georgia starts slow, then writes winning script (UPDATED)

If Georgia's comeback to make a big enough statement, this message did. (AP photo)

If Dogs' comeback wasn't big enough statement, this was.

(UPDATED: 1:15 a.m.)

COLUMBIA, Mo. — By the time this night was over, Georgia had to be more than just somebody else’s memory.

Decades from now, there couldn’t be any warm-and-fuzzy storylines about how some newbie won its first SEC game, because the flip side to that would be that the Bulldogs had lost it. There couldn’t be the tale of how a long-standing program (Georgia)  had stumbled in its conference opener for the third straight season, this time falling to a program (Missouri) that some questioned was even worthy of this leap.

But by the time the evening ended, Georgia didn’t have to worry about that. The Dogs had several early hiccups Saturday. They turned the ball over. They committed penalties. They trailed as late as 20-17 with less than three minutes left in the third quarter. Then they changed the script.

The Dogs scored the final 24 points of the game. They scored 38 in the final 30:30 of the game after managing only a field goal in the first 29:30. They won 41-20.

It’s too early to know if Georgia is a great team. But that is how great teams react. They take over games and look like they’re ready for the moment, especially when the opponent looks like it isn’t.

As the game ended, Georgia fans in one corner of Memorial Stadium, chanted, “Old man football! Old man football!” The reference was to the Missouri player who had mocked their style.

Big mistake by the Tigers. Fond memory for the Bulldogs.

“We all heard it — that was great,” quarterback Aaron Murray said.

“”Hilarious,” wide receiver Marlon Brown added.

Defense held Dogs in it until Aaron Murray and offense got going.

Defense held Dogs in it until Aaron Murray got going.

It was 3-3 until late in the second quarter. Brown said, “I was thinking, ‘Wow, this really is ‘old man football’ — for both teams.”

But Georgia drove to a touchdown with 30 seconds left in the first half, and suddenly it couldn’t be stopped. In one stretch they scored on five of six possessions (four touchdowns and a field goal), although the last two touchdowns of the game were gimmes, set up by Missouri turnovers caused by linebacker Jarvis Jones: an interception and return to the Mizzou 1, and a sack and forced fumble at the 5.

“I think we showed people we can play,” Jones said. “In the first half, they threw a variety of punches at us, they showed us everything they had. In the second half we were more comfortable. And we made plays.”

Meanwhile, the Tigers unraveled. It started with their head coach, Gary Pinkel. He called for a fake punt early in the fourth quarter when Georgia led only 24-20. Some might call that the element of surprise. In reality, it was an awful message to send his players. It was like telling them, “We can’t win this playing normal football.” There is nothing wrong with calling a fake punt, but not at that point of the game.

Also, it failed. Punter Trey Barrow was stuffed on a fourth-and-11 run by Sheldon Dawson at the Tigers’ 38. The Dogs converted that into a field goal and outscored Missouri 17-0 from that points.

Jones: “That was a big turning point for us.”

Nobody went into Saturday expecting a blowout win. Georgia showed flaws last week against Buffalo (soft defensive line, off-target quarterback), was missing bodies (four defensive starters suspended) and was playing on the road against a solid opponent that obviously was pumped for its SEC debut.

But the one thing nobody in Athens wanted or expected was a reminder of last season’s first significant test of the season. Remember the Boise State game? The Bulldogs looked outcoached and overmatched physically by a perceived inferior team that night. They trailed 28-7 in the third quarter and lost 35-21.

That’s sort of what it looked like for a half (or more) against Missouri. The offensive line didn’t block well. Murray was off target. He frequently overthrew  receivers, and the one time when he underthrew a receiver (Brown), the pass was intercepted — and on the first play after Georgia had recovered a Missouri fumble.

There were other problems. Malcolm Mitchell belatedly and foolishly decided to field a punt on a bounce and in traffic. Of course, he got hit and fumbled. The Dogs finished with 12 penalties, including five false starts. There were dropped passes. Placekicker Marshall Morgan made 52-and 41-yard field goals but missed an extra point and had another ricochet in off the upright.

But defense, despite also having some bumps, kept the Dogs in it until Murray and the offense got going. With Georgia trailing 20-17, Murray completed consecutive passes to Brown (40 yards), Michael Bennett (22) and Brown (11) again, the last one for a touchdown and a 24-20 lead.

Missouri panicked. It didn’t look ready for the moment. Pinkel’s fake punt backfired. It was over.

This memory was all Georgia’s.

The Biggest Scare UGa has is Murray
If he plays against a real quality team like he has against Buffalo and Mizzou in the first half he will not get a chance to come back in the second half.
If UGa plays a 1st half against USC like they did against Mizzou it could have them in too big of a hole to climb out of having to count on Murray’s passing ability.

Great games in Texas and Missouri today……Murray played well…..and so did Jeff Driskel. By the way…..Jeff Driskel is now 23 for 32 for 276 yards and a TD…no INTs. Showing a lot of leadership and athletic ability. The kid is going to grow into an outstanding QB this year.

It wasn’t impressive (except for JJ’s game), but I will take it. The defense looks much improved from last week and I can see that when the missing pieces are back they will be very stout…Especially in the middle of the field where this team looked very exposed in the game tonight (Norman may be a good kid, but he’s no SEC safety). I would rather see JHC in that role than Norman… My fault lies on the offense. Murray has happy feet along with a inconsistent arm & decision making skills. Our OL better improve fast, because they are horrible…Too many false starts and not enough pass blocking… Also, why is Gurley getting so many limited touches? He needs 15-20 for now, NOT 10… Marshall looks like Isiah did last year; he is not running hard and goes down at first contact/ not making anyone miss. I think he may be more effective in the screen game if we actually called any… Plenty of room for improvement overall, but I will take the final result.

Yessuh, boys–after that strange first half, it became a good old-fashioned Georgia beat-down! That’s what the powerhouses in the SEC can do–quickly overwhelm a team before they know what hit ‘em.

We’re looking forward to Murray settling down, getting all our defensive guys back, and steady improvement.
This might just turn out to be a great team.

Missouri, we wish you young fellows the best but everybody’s gotta run thru the ring of fire if they want to play in the SEC.

Our starting left tackle had 3 false starts and gave up 2 terrible sacks. Murray threw a bad int – mitchell fumbled a punt in a terrible decision. We missed an extra point. We had another slew of penalties… But here is what we didn’t have – bad punts. Missed tackles. Pick 6’s.
We went to an explosive stadium with a veteran qb and a good coach and spanked em by 3 touchdowns.
Richt and Bobo call a conservative game and that frustrates me as much as you, but patience paid off. We waited and waited… And Missouri finally imploded.
Go dawgs

Jones for Heisman, but Samuel had the play of the game. I think Richt put them both in his will, if he didn’t adopt them. Murray played great except for the pick. There were a lot of dropped balls tonight by people who don’t drop them usually. Penalties, fumbles, and poor execution looks like our typical pattern from the last five years. It is like we don’t wake up until we get stressed. We didn’t start to execute until Mizz scored, and then we woke up. It has to be coaching because it is different kids every year. I’m not sure how you coach that, but we do it every year. The good news is that the Dawgs usually improve a lot as the year goes by….Go Dawgs.

There were times I didn’t recongnize half the names on the defense – I can’t wait until we are back at full strength. All of the way until the end the D looked fresh and in good condition – maybe that new conditioning program is now showing results. I think we can now put to rest the “Murray has not won a big game” BS – a road game of that magnitude in that kind of a hostile environment is a big game regardless of the rankings. Just ask Arkansas. I think Mizzou is going to upset some people this year – the only thing holding them back is lack of deopth and in this league that will kill you. A gritty performance by the Dawgs in a hostile arena – congrats to the D for keeping us in the game until the offense woke up and for hanging in there despite the fact that half the starters are still out. Go Dawgs! Keep getting better!

Mark/bobo still believe that execution trumps schematics. So they really don’t worry about confusing any body or being predictable. Mark/Bobo just think a well executed play will work. It seems as if the UGA fans are rather absorbed by GT, who you claim doesn’t matter to you and you’ve beaten a lot. Not sure how much, but a lot.

Why don’t you turn your attention back over to SEC teams.

Now I want to congratulate UGA on their big win over an unranked team and congratulate the Mizzou coach for faking a punt when you have a punter that can boot it 60 yards. GO DAWGS…OLD MAN FOOTBALL !!!

Mizzou;

Hold your heads high SEC brothers. You gave us all you had and more for three quarters. I genuinely mean, “Welcome to The SEC”. I have stated for over 5 years that Mizzou is an SEC caliber team and your boys proved it tonight. You will beat some other SEC Teams this season.

Your stadium will be enlarged in forthcoming years. SEC Football generates huge bucks and I am confident Mizzou will benefit from that.

FOR GODSAKE change your uniforms. They are NOT SEC quality. On TV it looks like black tape was laid onto yellow jerseys. Absolutely awful appearance except for a Halloween Night Game.

DAWGS;

You cannot play catchup football and hope to beat Vandy, UT, SC, UF, GT and whomever we play in the bowlgame.

My hunch has proven right – though a little belated. I thought I saw a good but inconsistent team v Buffalo. I thought things would begin clicking in the first half of this game but it took the 4th quarter for the O and the D to begin hitting on all cylinders – but boy oh boy how well they did!

I don’t think we can compete with Bama or LSU this season if we make it that far but who knows what may develop.

Congrats DAWGS on a great 4th qtr and victory!

It was a solid win. The Mizzou players were clearly playing above their head. And that isn’t a knock. They were very emotional, which will really hlp you on defense. They have been pointing to this game all summer. They have been told all summer that they were not good enough to play in the SEC. Remember the game @ Oklahoma State a few years back? Simllar situation. This time the kids stepped up and won.

Focus on the positive folks. We survived this game with 4 suspended playeers. Should be able to manage through Florida International and a we get a couple of those guys back.

It isn’t clear if they wll all be back for Vandy – but that game is a home game. And everybody is back for South Carolina.

This was a big hurdle and a solid test for some of our Freshmen. And while the Freshmen Kicker missed the PAT – he was ‘clutch’ on both field goals – one being 52 yards.

Special Teams were solid ‘again’….

So yes, there were some mistatkes – most in fthe first half – with the team playing stronger and stronger as the game went…

If they stay healthy….

They got a shot to be special…

Why don’t you turn your attention back over to SEC teams.

Now I want to congratulate UGA on their big win over an unranked team and congratulate the Mizzou coach for faking a punt when you have a punter that can boot it 60 yards. Man, even Miles wouldn’t do that stunt. Too bad, I thought Mizzou was going to come back and win given how easily they were moving the ball up and down the field.

Georgia won a huge road game against a very solid team…and they won by 3 touchdowns. That’s what Top 10 teams do. UGA finished strong in the 4th quarter. That’s also what Top 10 teams do.

There’s no doubt that we have the makings of an excellent team, especially when we get our 4 wayward defensive stars back.

Missouri has a solid program. Their last three starting QBs are all playing in the NFL. It would be great if Mizzou could knock off USC in a couple of weeks, and they are certainly capable of doing it.

But they are so poorly coached, so unprepared, so undisciplined, that I know that even though they won tonight, Georgia’s play for most of the game will get them beat against teams better than Mizzou. Tired of seeing the coaches waste talent, tied knowing that there will be at least one game where all the mistakes and misuse will result in a bad loss.

Great win for the Dawgs! Surprised Grantham let John Jenkins stay in game with 3 minutes left and 21 point lead. Hope his injury is not serious. I know Kwame Geathers was hurt earlier. These nose tackles mean alot this season. I love Richt but find it difficult to understand why we don’t give more carries to Gurley. He clearly moves the pile and makes things happen. The players know it when they compare him to Trent Richardson. Freshman or not, don’t penalize him for being a winner. Knowshon Morena was redshirted and took forever to crack starting lineup because Richt and Bobo favor senior backs. All Morena did was spin and make something happen everytime he touched the ball just like Gurley. I am not smarter nor pretend to be wiser than our coaches but sometimes you can just tell that our offense is not in sinc and we need to conscientiously decide that running smaller backs off tackle will not get it done against the LSU’s and Alabama’s. I’m pulling for our coaches to establish a big back (Gurley) along with the FB to help us push the pile near goalline and short yardage situations. I also think Malcolm Mitchell should be utilized on offense with post pattern or hitch/go when Bobo can’t get pass play to reach first down anyway. Throw it up there because Malcolm has great hands and is a winner and can go get it! Besides, an interception is just like a punt yet we still have opportunity to spread the field and put our best against their best! Can’t stand third down pass plays that need 10 yards and we get 6. Great start for season though and go Dawgs!

I meant unranked after one game. Mizzou was still unranked after winning last week.

They’ll still be unranked after this week. I mean they might have gotten some points there at the bottom of the USA Today, but not when you run a fake punt and then your QB loses his composure.

Is this a good time to go over a little stat-age? And not just that the Mizzou kid lit the best defense ever, the one with no signature win, with 260+ yards. But a little more important stat, since the BCS started we’ve won 2 National Championships. Alabama has won 2. Florida… 2. Auburn 1. Tennessee 1. UGA… well, hey, you beat an unranked team.

Hello again Jeff. Man am I glad this night was a W. I admit I expected a second half choke after the missed extra point kick. The Dawgs actually did what a ranked team is supposed to do down the stretch. Take a lead then batter the opposition into submission. I was proud to see a fake punt fail against the Dawgs. Man have I grown frustrated with those things over the years. The offense put some points on the board but I am so very proud of the Dawg defense. The defense was clearly cheated out of one TD. The Dawgs now go on a stretch which could be prosperous. I expect the next big thing to involve Steve Spurrier. All true Dawg fans know what I mean. Good night Bulldog Nation. :)

PJ, I’m glad UGA won – no thanks to the offense. Again, this Bobo led offense is not very poor. The QB, O-line and receivers were average. They are lucky the defense put them in good positions for easy scores. UGA’s offense is a problem and they can’t win meaningful games playing like this. I saw LSU, ALA and SC offenses move the ball consistently today. There O-lines opened running lanes and pass blocked very well and the UGA O-line looked out of place most of the game against Mizzu.

I’m telling you, keeping Bobo as the OC will cost us. The UGA AD or the boosters need to pressure CMR to replace Bobo – when Willie Martinez was replaced our defense improved exponentially. If we get rid of Bobo, the offense will do the same and UGA will be a national powerhouse.

Go Dawgs!

A couple of things I noticed. Mizzou was still doing pretty well with many of their players going out of the game. I’d really love to compare the recruiting classes. Not interested enough to do that leg work but I bet there is a massive difference. And more importantly, hey nice leg cramp there to slow the game down when you’re getting beat down the field. With a little over a minute left in the first half, Mizzou went for a touchdown. If Bobo was in the same position, does anyone think he would have enough gonads to go for a touchdown? Based on past history, he would have ran the ball and go into half time. I think Mizzou’s coaching staff is better than Georgia’s. Georgia won because of more talent tonight, not coaching.

I LOVED that Kentucky aint worth a “shirt” line Schultz!

The Dogs offense has now came to life and I expect them to be a sight to see the rest of the season in the passing game. Especially if we ever get Mitchell back over there where he belongs.

You Richt haters enjoy this win? Richt is solid. Calm under pressure. This used to be celebrated. Bobo? Still suspect but better. Richt is a great coach. Richt is the best coach in UGA history matter of FACT. Cant handle a couple of down seasons? Then you better go root for a nother team every few years because they ALL have down seasons. UGA had theirs and are STRONGER THAN EVER. I have NEVER seen UGA”s foundation and future look better in my 32 years of watching them. THIS team is going to only get better and better, including the already STOUT defense when the starters get back. OGLETREE IS A BEAST! Definite All-American and add Rambo and that is 3 All-Americans at least on our D….Bobo is still the weak link. Not Richt. UGA has NEVER been am ELITE program and you all expect them to be. Richt is about to take them there. Stay tuned and support your team and coach. See you in the SEC Championship game…and for the next 5 years! Its going to be a great time to be a Dawg fan. People say Richt gets as good of players as Bama. NOT TRUE. Bama gets FAR MORE 5 STARS….FACT. IT took Saban 10 years to win a NC and he is the KING. THis is Richts 12th season….you expect EVERY coach to win a NC in their first 10 years? ROFL…Took Dooley, the Bear 18 years of being a head coach, takes most of them 15 years with a few recent exceptions at elite schools. UGA is not elite in football, but Richt has had us in the top 10 more the last 10 years than EVER in UGA history during a 10 year span and we are there again. We won a game msot people thought we would lose. Better condiitoned UGA was in the 4th. Better adjustments after halftime. Big plays by Jarvis(from Columbus I might add). UGA weathered the storm in a hostile environment, They deserve a lot of love, but not too much. But they DO DESERVE ALL OF OUR SUPPORT AND SO DOES A GREAT COACH. RICHT. HE WILL TAKE US TO THE PROMISE LAND SOON. BOBO? HES BETTER BUT STILL HAS GOT TO IMPROVE MORE. RICHT IS A GREAT COACH AND WE ARE BLESSED TO HAVE HIM AS COACH OF OUR BELOVED DAWGS! HERE COMES ANOTHER 10 WIN SEASON. THAT WILL MAKE WHAT 8 IN 12 YEARS? WOW. SOON WE WILL GET THE BREAKS AND GET OUR NC SHOT. SHOULD HAVE IN 2007 LIKE BAMA DID LAST YEAR BUT WE DIDNT, LSU DID. THEY WON IT ALL, WE WOULD HAVE DESTROYED THEM HEAD-TO-HEAD….SO DONT FORGET THAT. RIACHT HAD THE BEST TEAM IN THE NATION IN 2007 BUYT DIDNT GET THE SHOT BAMA GOT LAST YEAR. AND THE NEXT YEAR WHEN THEY GAVE US THE CONOLIATION PRIZE OF BEING RANKED #1? ANY OF YOU WITH HALF A BRAIN KNEW THAT UGA HAD LOST FOR TOO MANY IMPORTANT PIECES TO BE WORTHY OF EVEN A TOP 5 RANKING. RICHT DIDNT BLOW IT, THE TEAM SIMPLY WAS NOT GOOD ENOUGH AND CERTAINLY NOT AS GOOD AS THE TEAM WE HAD THE YEAR BEFORE. SO GET YOUR THINKING STRAIGHT. GET BEHIND THIS MAN INSTEAD OF CRITICIZING HIM AND SEE WHAT HE CAN DO. HE WILL WIN THE NC AT UGA. HE WILL AND HE WILL IN THE NEXT 5 YEARS….AND HE WILL BRING UGA TO THE ELITES LIKE BAMA, USC, OKLAHOMA, LSU, PENN ST,

GO DAWGS. A FEW MORE OF YOU GET OFF THE RICHT HATING BANDWAGON…HES NOT A PROBLEM. WITHOUT HIM OUR RECRUITING WOULD SIGNIFICANTLY INFERIOR. ALL HE NEEDS TO DO IS GET A FEW GUYS TO LAY OFF WEED AND STOP TESTING THEM AFTER SPRING BREAK! THAT CRAZY A.D.! ANYWAY, ITS GONNA BE A GREAT YEAR. WE MIGHT BE READY TO CONTEND FOR IT ALL COME THE END OF THE YEAR….YEAH

Seldom does any team play a season without mistakes. This Georgia team made some mistakes, especially in the first half. Playing a perfect game the first of the year does not guarantee that you will play that well at the end and playing a lousy game or two at the beginning of the year does not mean that you will play lousy at the end of the year. I believe this team can play the disciplined football demonstrated by those teams in our conference who are, according to many posting here, we are “lucky” enough to be in the same conference with. One of those “GREAT” west division teams seems to have stubbed it’s collective toe, but I’m sure that you haters believe they would have beaten us Dawgs tonight. Do you detect any sarcasm?

Get off Theus’ back. I doubt that any of you negative posters have played even high school football, much less major college. The young man is acquitting himself well and is getting better. Now now, GT is, I have no earthly idea how GT is. I saw the VaTech game and Clemson game last year. Hard to judge the ACC when Clemson is streaky and then allows WV to put up 70. But as to Missouri. I think they played well and are a solid unranked team. In fact, any team they led for almost 3 quarters, I’d consider that team about the same as Missouri if not a little better. But I think that Missouri shouldn’t be ranked, so I’d say the same about someone they led for so long. :D

Mizzou Texas A and M join SEC and BOTH lose

September 9th, 2012
1:05 am

We beat an unranked team, who will have 6 losses to just SEC teams; and, so will Texas A and M.

Faurot Field attendance 71,004

Marshall Morgan looked poor last week on extra points, and worse again tonight. One would think a Special Teams’ Coach would have noticed that last week and had him working on it.

Malcolm Mitchell was missed on offense again. Our receivers all dropped pass after pass all night long, except Jay Rome.

Mizzou had more 1st Downs than we did, and more of them on the ground than we did, in this Pass-Happy Offense. What were those play-calls by Mike Bobo tonight ?

How can a team have jitters at the beginning of that game ? After what we did last week, and what we’ve done over these current 8 years now – which is not beat teams who are Top 10 teams, and this certainly wasn’t one – one would have expected our Offense would step on the field and take the ball in for scores.

Asking too much obviously against this 7-6 Mizzou football team. Texas A and M too, Tampa Dawg, will also be 7-6.

Mizzou had more total offense against our defense, than we did against their pitiful excuse of a defense.

3 FUMBLES tonight and Aaron Murray’s interception.

2 more Sacks to bring that total to a zillion for Aaron Murray.

Boo Malcome is our Starting Tailback ? Another FUMBLE tonight and he has never on any day been our best Running Back.

Congratulations to Mark Richt for making the SUSPENSIONS all anyone would talk about pre-game.

Blake Sailors was an abomination.

Connor Norman right there with him.

Merritt Hall returns kick-offs for 7 yards each time ? No wonder they kick-off to him.

Quayvon Hicks at least they let Quayvon Hicks play – the 1 Fullback we’ve recruited in 6 consecutive recruiting classes with 200 fullbacks singed by our opponents every 1 of the 6 seasons.

12 penalties, nicely coached football team we’ve got here Mark Richt.

Aaron Murray 2012 now has 12 carries for minus 2 yards per carry.

Aaron Murray pass completions against these 2 cupcakes with Florida Atlantic next stands the same as last year when he is the # 72 QB in the nation in pass completion percentage.

Richard Samuel proved he should be on Defense, again tonight.

Christian LeMay did not get 1 snap against a 7-6 football team we beat by more than twice their score.

Christian LeMay averages more yards per game rushing than Ken Malcome.

Only a Tech fan would say they don’t care about being ranked. Tech fans accept their failures really well.

Please tell me why the top 25 matters. How would being ranked change our season? Arkansas, Florida, and Nebraska will be ranked next week. Its a completely meaningless beauty pageant. Especially this early in the season.

CMR’s decision to bench Crowell is questionable. If Crowell played the first half, score would not have been close. I understand discipline, but the performance of the team is more important than “proving a point” by benching a talented player like Crowell. Time to face reality.

You don’t have to worry about that. The only team on our schedule is South Carolina who plays Clemson, Georgia, and LSU, while all we play is just only them.

Does beating a team like Missouri give you a sense of satisfaction? MISSOURI IS A VERY GOOD TEAM HATERS….#9 IN OFFENSE LAST YEAR IN THE NATION….MOST PEOPLE PICKED AN UPSET. DIDNT HAPPEN. IF MOST PEOPLE WERE PICKING AN UPSET….MISSOURI MUST BE PRETTY GOOD WITH THEIR BALANCED OFFENSE OF OVER 3,000 YARDS PASSING AND 3,000 YARDS RUNNING LAST YEAR AND WITH THEIR QB RETURNING ALONG WITH SEVERAL HUGE RECEIVERS…UGA MADE BETTER ADJUSTMENTS AT THE HALF AS USUAL, AND WERE IN BETTER CONDITION IN THE 4TH AND THEREFORE CAPABLE OF MAKING BIG PLAYS. IF YOU ARE GASSED IN THE 4TH, HARD TO MAKE THE BIG PLAYS….UGA dominated the 4th quarter and 2nd half really. What are people hatin on ANYTHING for? HUH? YOU LOSERS! All of you. ESPECIALLY GT fans. Get a life cause you will NEVER have on in football as long as Mark Richt is coach at UGA….havent you figured that one out yet? The offense woke up. Richt went in there and snatched a knot in Bobo’s head and Murrays rear end and things turned around for the offense and both the offense and the defense were in better condition in the 4th. That was obvious. But saying Missouri was not a good team? They were a very good team and deserve to be ranked. Thats for sure. UGA;s offense was low and needs to start faster against Vandy, and I think they will. Vandy dint seem to play well on the road, not nearly as well as they do at home. ALL UGA was looking to do in the BIG PICTURE, you IGMOS, was surive and come out with a win and if you forget the first half which was basically a tie, UGA dominated the 2nd half, especially the 4th. More than doubled their score. Good win. 1-0 in the SEC and THAT IS THE BIG PICTURE. JUST WIN BABY. AND UGA WILL. AND THEY WILL. AND THE WILL NOT LOSE A GAME ALL SEASON.. SEE YOU IDIOTS ARE MISSING IT.

ALL UGA HAD TO DO WAS TO WEATHER THE STORM OF THE MISSING PLAYERS THIS GAME. AND THEY DID. NOW THEY HAVE A GREAT CHANCE TO GO UNDEFEATED.

SEE YOU HATERS IN THE SEC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME WHEN UGA WILL BE #2 IN THE NATION BABY! YOU HATERS LIKE THAT? THE BIG PICTURE….WE WEATHERED THIS STORM, SURVIVED OUT TOUGHEST TEST AND WILL BE FULL STRENGTH AGAINST SOUTH CAROLINA AND WILL PAY THEM BACK BIG TIME.

GOING TO THE SEC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME RANKED #2 IN THE NATION. YOU STILL GOING TO BE HATING ON RICHT? YOU YOUNG AND DUMB IGNORANT LOSERS PROBABLY WILL BE STILL HATING ROFL!!!

ITS GOING TO BE A GEAT YEAR. WE WILL GO UNDEFEATED IN THE REGULAR SEASON AND JUST GET BETTR ABD BETTER EAND STRONGER AND STRONGER EACH AND EVERY GAME…ITS GOING TO BE A GREAT YEAR NOW THAT WE GOT PAST THIS EARLY TOUGH TEST…..WE HAVE IMPROVED UPON LAST YEAR ALREADY!!!!! DONT U HATERS SEE THAT? DONT MATTER HOW. WE DID…AND LOOK AT US NOW HATERS….ON THE ROAD TO AN UNDEFEATED SEASON….YEP

Hey, last thought of the night, it is 1:19 in the am. Some of us have to go to work tomorrow, even on Sundays.

Anyways, the last thought comes from our friend Stewart Mandel. It’s a statement I want you guys to read very carefully. Which I know is hard. But this is from September 2010. By the way, who won the BCS that year… oh yeah, Auburn. Blew you out. Watched that game. :D Now now, don’t worry, they won’t blow you out this year. Remember, we sent Jefferson over there in a Frasier jersey.

Anyways, parting thought as you come to realize UGA has no big wins in the past few years, no BCS trophy, struggled mightily against an unranked team whose seating in one endzone is in the grass and well, is rather irrelevant on the national stage:

“I’m with you, Dave. If Georgia runs off Richt this year, it will be textbook Clemson/Ole Miss Syndrome. (Note the example cited in that link: Minnesota. How’s that working out?) Historically, Georgia is more prestigious than either of those teams — but not as much as Dawgs fans like to think. In all my travels, I’m not sure I’ve ever come across a fan base whose self-perception is so far from reality. Georgia fashions itself a national power in the vein of Ohio State, USC, et. al., based primarily off one glorious three-year run 30 years ago with Herschel Walker (and some kick-butt years in the 1940s). Prior to this season, the Dawgs under Richt had vastly outperformed their historical “equilibrium,” and in fact Richt’s career winning percentage (.752) is the highest in school history (not counting Bobby Winston’s lone 5-1 season in 1894).”

The MOST telling points about tonight’s game :
______________________________________

1. We beat an unranked team

2. Marshall Morgan looked poor last week on extra points, and worse again tonight. One would think a Special Teams’ Coach would have noticed that last week and had him working on it.

3. Malcolm Mitchell was missed on offense again. Our receivers all dropped pass after pass all night long, except Jay Rome.

4. Mizzou had more 1st Downs than we did, and more of them on the ground than we did

5. How can a team have jitters at the beginning of that game ? After what we did last week, and what we’ve done over these current 8 years now – which is not beat teams who are Top 10 teams – go out and execute from the start like it matters.

6. We did not do that, again.

7. Mizzou had more total offense against our defense, than we did against their pitiful excuse of a defense.

8. 3 FUMBLES tonight and Aaron Murray’s interception.

9. 2 more Sacks to bring that total to a zillion for Aaron Murray.

10. Boo Malcome is our Starting Tailback ? Another FUMBLE tonight and he has never on any day been our best Running Back.

11. Congratulations to Mark Richt for making the SUSPENSIONS all anyone would talk about pre-game.

12. Blake Sailors was an abomination.

13. Connor Norman right there with him.

14. Merritt Hall returns kick-offs for 7 yards each time ? No wonder they kick-off to him.

15. Quayvon Hicks at least they let Quayvon Hicks play – the 1 Fullback we’ve recruited in 6 consecutive recruiting classes with 200 fullbacks singed by our opponents every 1 of the 6 seasons.

16. 12 penalties, nicely coached football team we’ve got here Mark Richt.

17. Aaron Murray 2012 now has 12 carries for minus 2 yards per carry.

18. Aaron Murray pass completions against these 2 cupcakes with Florida Atlantic next stands the same as last year when he is the # 72 QB in the nation in pass completion percentage.

19. Richard Samuel proved he should be on Defense, again tonight, instead he’s jerked-around by Mark Richt’s “coaching staff.”

20. Christian LeMay did not get 1 snap against a 7-6 football team we beat by more than twice their score.

21. Christian LeMay averages more yards per game rushing than Ken Malcome.

@LSU42….your former coach Saban who led you to a Co-Championship in ‘03 (USC was by far the better team)….left you and the stinky swamp and went to your arch enemies where he buried you last year.

Meanwhile, Uncle Les stumbles his way to a fluky 2 loss NC and has underachieved since….

How many weeks has UGA been ranked #1 since? How about us?

How many BCS titles has UGA won since we won our last one?

Dont be happy. You are a LOSER. The rest of us? We won the game…..we WON. Be happy! MAN…10-2 is a very good year by the way. VERY GOOD AND MOST TEAMS WOULD BE THRILLED TO HAVE THAT GOOD OF A SEASON YOU BLIND LOSER AND ESPECIALLY ON A CONSISTENT BASIS BECAUSE IF YOU ARE HAVING SEVERAL 10 WIN SEASONS, YOU ARE BUILDING A PROGRAM THAT WILL WIN CONSISTENTLY AND HAS A CHANCE TO WIN THEM ALL….HARDLY NOBODY GOES UNDEFEATED….NOBODY AND CERTAINLY ON A CONSISTENT BASIS. ASK TENN, FLORIDA, SOUTH CAROLINA, ARKANSAS, ALABAMA, LSU….BUT KEEP WINNING AND SOONER OR LATER YOU WILL. DO YOU KNOW HOW MANY 10 WIN SEASON UGA HAD IN THE 15 YEARS PRIOR TO RICHT? DO YOU? LOOK IT UP. IF YOU DONT WIN 10, YOU CANT WIN 11 OR 12 OR 13! HOW WOULD YOU LIKE TO WIN 8 OR 9 EVERY YEAR? LIKE UGA WAS DOING ON A CONSISTENT BASIS PRIOR TO RICHT HUH? RICHT HAS TOOK US BEYOND THAT AND HE IS ABOUT TO TAKE US FURTHER. THIS TEAM WILL ONLY GET BETTER AND BETTER AND COME SEC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME….HAS A GREAT CHANCE TO BE UNDEDEATED AND GUYS, WE HAVE A DEFENSE AND ONE THAT WILL BE SO GREAT BY THENM THAT WE HAVE A CHANCE TO BEAT ANYBODY. ANYBODY. SEASON JUST STARTED….JUST WAIT. ITS ONLY GOING TO GET BETTER.

YOU BETTER SUPPORT YOUR COACH BECAUSE IN 15 THE YEARS BEFORE HE GOT HERE, THERE WERE NO CHAMPIONSHIPS OF ANY KIND FOR 20 YEARS…WE ARE ABOTU TO GET SOME MORE AND GO UP ANOTHER LEVEL….GOT TO GROW AND RICHT IS STILL GROWING TOO. FIRST TIME HEAD COACH. TOOK BEAR BRYANT 18 YEARS UNTIL HE WON A NC. DOOLEY TOO. EVEN SABAN TOOK 10 YEARS YOU LOSERS AND HE IS THE BEST COACH EVER….RICHT HAS ONLY COACHED ONE MORE YEAR THAN IT TOOK SABAN! AND TRUTH BE KNOWN, YOU WAS THE BEST TEAM IN THE NATION A FEW YEARS BACK BUT DIDNT GET THE CHANCE TO PLAY FOR IT. YOU KNOW ITS TRUE. THATS NTO RICHTS FAULT. BAMA GOT THE CHANCE TO LAY FOR IT LAST YEAR EVEN THOUGHT THEY DIDNT WIN THE SEC, NOR THEIR DIVISION. HAD UGA GOTTEN THAT OPPURTUNITY, RICHT WOULD HAVE A NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP AND 2 SEC CHAMPIONSHIPS AND 4 EASTER DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIPS…..PRETTY IMPRESSIVE FOR ANY COACH. EVER….MORE CHAMPIONSHIPS ARE ON THE HORIZON THE NEXT 5 YEARS. MAYBE THE BIG ONE. MAYBE EVEN THIS YEAR. ITS NTO HOW YOU START AS MUCH AS HOW YOU FINISH AND WE ARE GOING TO BE REALLY GOOD COME NOVEMBER!!! GET OFF RICHTS BACK. YOU YOUNGUNS DONT KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT, DONT HAVE ENOUGH TIME ON THIS PLANET TO KNOW. YOU SHOULD BE HAPPY! NOTHING WILL MAKE YOU SORRY PATHETIC EXCUSES FOR FANS HAPPY EXCEPT A NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP. ONLY 1 TEAM CAN WIN THAT OUT OF 114 TEAMS. ONLY 1. ODDS ARENT GOOD. MOST TEAMS DONT EVEN HAVE HOPE. 10-11 WINS IS A GREAT SEASON, ESPECIALLY IN THE SEC! YOU YOUNGUNS SHOULD BE BANNED FROM BEING IN HERE. YOU DONT HAVE A CLUE…MOST OF YOU. LISTEN TO WHAT IM SAYING AND GET SOME WISDOM….LISTEN TO YOUR ELDERS AND YOU WILL….STOP TALKING AND START LISTENING AND YOU CAN….

ITS GONNA BE A GREAT SEASON. WE ARE 1-0 IN THE SEC AND LAST YEAR WE WAS 0-1.

BE HAPPY! ITS ONLY GOING TO GET BETTER TOO!

First off great win by the Dawgs and D. Glad we won. However that Oline was horrible, and looked undersized. That needs to improve significantly and I mean drastically. If Murray even has one they could be a great team to give him time to set u people blame his passing, but if he has to rush throws before he takes his punishment, just think of how much better they would be. 2. Mizzou had more total offense against our defense, than we did against their bad D

3. 3 FUMBLES tonight for us and Aaron Murray’s interception.

4. 2 more Sacks to bring that total to a zillion for Aaron Murray.

5. 12 penalties, nicely coached football team we’ve got here Mark Richt.

7. Aaron Murray 2012 now has 12 carries for minus 2 yards per carry.

8. Missed extra point when we should have tied the game-up at half, when a Special Teams’ coach would have noticed we kicked extra points horribly last week vs Buffalo.

Columbus: drunk? That’s the only way ALL CAPS is justified.

But to your POINTS in your COMMENT

1) 10-2 IS good…except when those losses are two the only good teams you play all year.
2) Everybody wins 10 games now that 12 games are on the schedule, plus a championship game and bowl game
3) UGA would have played for a national title in 2007 except for a loss AT HOME to South Carolina and debacle in Knoxville, in which the team was entirely unprepared to play either game.
4) 2-0 is good. Better than 1-1. But nothing from what I’ve seen in two games suggest this team will run the table in the SEC East, much less be a challenge Alabama or LSU for the championship.

Jarvis Jones played about as well as you can play on defense. We have some glaring weaknesses in the secondary though. Running backs ran the ball tough. A few mistakes that can be corrected. we turned a nail-biter into a route against a team that seemingly had us throttled offensively. We got exposed in the middle pass defense when it seemed we were about to lose control of the game. But everytime we faultered, our offense turned it up a notch. Then JARVIS took control of the game and asserted his physical abilities and the game was over. Cant continue to dig our own graves, and expect to come out with same results. However, it was refreshing to see us ramp it up and overwelm the tigers on their own field down the stretch. In perspective….we arent as good as we ended up, and neither is Mizzu as bad as final indicated, but the response our team emitted is refreshing and welcomed. Kudos to Mizzu for taking it to us…..yall are gonna win in this league….the difference in the SEC is that you have play quality ftball every play, every game, against every opponent, EVERY WEEK……..Not gonna gloat, cause it could’ve been us with the long trip home…..just nice to see us respond in a volitale setting, when a moral victory was lookin pretty good there for a while….GO YOU HAIRY DAWGS!!!!!!!

The game went exactly the way I said it would. I said that the biggest thing that Texas A&M and Missouri will find out is to be able to compete with the best in the SEC you have to have DEPTH, as Georgia found out the hard way against L.S.U. last year. I missed the score , I said Georgia wins 31-21 but when a team is in the last 5 minutes of a game and are behind it is easy to score one or two more times because they go for 4TH down in their own territory and throw on every play. Easy for a turn over in your own territory. Many times the end score is not indicative of how hard the game actually was.
I give Missouri credit for a very good game, who played us very tough for 3 Quarters. The outcome was up in the air until the fourth Quarter.

I must give our defensive unit a lot of credit for keeping a very high powered offense down long enough for our depth to take over and win the game. Franklin is a great Quarterback and the defense held him to 25 yards on 20 carry’s. Completely neutralized half of what makes Franklin great, the ability to run the ball. And we did all that missing 4 starters. We will be ready by South Carolina game. We did too many great things tonight to criticize the few negatives that were obvious. They will be addressed by Richt , Bobo and Grantham . Great win as a team.

Some of you are so blind. There are four quarters in football and the offense only played the last one. They couldn’t score a touchdown the entire length of the field most of the night. They were spotted good field position by the defense. To give credit to Bobo the 41 points and say there’s nothing wrong with the offense is a one-eyed Johnson. Defense saved the offense yet again. Mizzou was even more undermanned than Georgia yet they kept the game close ’til the end. We’ll see if the same people praising Richt anf Bobo feel the same way by the end of the season.

All night long, their Mizzou Offense did better against our Defense than we did against Mizzou’s horrible Defense. Aaron Murray threw an interception, caused us a fumble on a pitch that was more like a shot put shove, was sacked several times, over-threw his receivers and failed to establish the run again against that sorry Mizzou Defense, this time, insisting on throwing until the end when the game was simply taken over by Jarvis Jones, already the Most Celebrated Georgia Bulldogs’ Linebacker in our 120-year history.

Special teams were shaky, and we forced Mizzou to throw the ball into our weakness. We were unprepared to play once again, and will NEVER beat the top teams, where our current 0 for 7 vs teams making the Top 10 dates back 7 years’ now.

UGA has a little more talent, size, and speed and they needed. Give the Mizzou team credit for giving it all they had for this huge 1st SEC game. I don’t know who Mizzou plays this week but it better be the little sisters of the poor or they will get beat due to the effort they gave and they still lost. I don’t understand why so many get on Bobo so much when for the most part isn’t the play but the players that fail to execute the play. Again Congrats for the win.

@Huh….sport the wheels are off the auburn cheating machine. I hope you’re still all in. Bobby Petrino is riding his Hog (without the queen) toward Lee County this AM. The woodcutter, the banker, and the old drunk coach is gathering up the 5 mill they owe clean Gene and it’s over for trupa and lupa. Karma on the plains….oh hell it’s just too funny. There is no doubt Mark Richt and Tommy Tubberville have lost control of the auburn football program.

The hugs by Mark Richt of his players were the highlight of the night. Mark Richt did that, right. You really haven’t seen that from any coach anywhere anytime. It is great to see him do that. Do it some more Mark Richt.

Lots of room for improvement, but you have to love this win and the determination of this team. Let’s get healthy, beat FLA ATL like we should (by 40 or so with no injuries) and get ready for the state of Tennessee. Side note— Hats off to Conner Norman, however, the fact a walk-on kid is starting in the SEC tells me we have some depth or attitude issues in Athens. With his size he should only be a special teams player on this team at best. Hope we get our full compliment of players back soon. And Connor, youre a Damn Good Dawg!!

PJ it was the starting right tackle and it was first game jitters in the SEC and in a hostile environment! Now he is ready for SC. Plus we will have Danztler back to spell him! What a great job by line down the stretch just overpowering Missouri. Hurley averaged 6.5 yes per carry! We will be fine. This game allowed the freshmen to grow up and our depth on defense will be awesome when everyone is back!!!! Jarvis Jones is a truly great player!!!

Todd Gurley needs a lot more touches than he gets, Boo Malcome a lot fewer touches, and Aaron Murray a lot fewer plays too. It was fun to watch and any win is a good win. The offense needs to wash clothes and cook meals for the defense and special teams for the next couple of weeks. Most of the points came from defenisve set ups… D carried the game even though they got torched and scorched a few times…missed assignments hurt even more against other ranked teams.. Murray will be OK, he needs to learn to control the adrenaline like any other high performing athlete.

Georgia is lucky the Mizzou coach isn’t real bright.

Will we ever stop this running back by committee crap?!?! Gurley should be getting at least 20 carries a game. He is a big play waiting to happen but he’s sitting on the sideline watching malcome and marshall get equal carries? Yesterday Gurley had 10 for 65, Marshall 12 for 32, and malcome 7 for 33. You give Gurley 10 more carries and he breaks at least one to the house. Don’t give me the “keeping them fresh” reason either because that’s crap. Keys to the Win:

1) Jarvis Jones had one of his best games in a red & black uniform. He created havoc all night for Mizzou, and if he wouldn’t have…. well there might have been a different outcome. 8 tackles, 1 sack, 1 Int, and 1 FF. This guy is our “Ace” on the defense.

2) Marlon Brown’s big catches. He quietly had his biggest game of his career here at UGA with 8 receptions for 106 yards and two TDs. He stepped up big time in a big game. With our offensive hiccups in the first half, Brown seemed like the atmosphere didn’t affect him. Kudos to the Senior, my offensive MVP.

3) The whole Defense. If you look at the stats for the game, they’re almost exactly the same numbers. The one way Mizzou was going to beat us was by spreading the football and running over us. We might have allowed this to pass all over us with 269 passing yards, but we held them to only 102 rushing yards. The D-Line plugged up the gaps and our linebackers played smart and with speed.

One still has to wonder why Richt still wants to pass the ball so much—-maybe its just a retardation that comes with coaching in the ACC————in any case I guess his reputation off the field has kept him at UGA———-But Georgia HAS got to run the ball better and more often in order to beat the better teams—–other wise, more interceptions and whatever————–The theory that Richt uses is based the premises that he has Joe Namath as a quarterback—that is fine and good ————-but he doesn’t have the best receivers in the league and Murray is not Namath. So watch Alabama play—they always get those tough yards while still passing——– a little more balance and patience.

Great win for the Dawgs! If you can’t be happy with a 3 TD win on the road in the SEC then you probably have some other issues in your life as well. Lot of mistakes and we did not play our best but we did own the 4th quarter and that’s all right with me.

Jarvis Jones is moving into Pollack territory as a DGD. Man this guy is good. Other heroes Samuel, Marlon Brown, Big John, Herrera, King. OL was resilient and did hurt Mr YoungMan at the end.

Big win and this team really has a chance to be good as we get guys back and as our OL gels and grows up. Getting Commings back alone will shore up the D a lot.

As for RBs I really thought Malcome was excellent tonight. Good hard running, moving piles and a nice burst for the TD. Gurley is going to be the best back but he did make some mistakes tonight hence Malcome in at the end. Marshall will be fine and cat wait to see him get some daylight.

Here goes. Poorly coached for 3 quarters. Dropped passes. Hey, Number 82, you’re making it tougher and tougher to throw the ball to the white guy. Lord have mercy but you let “us” down. Sorry play calling. Is there a play on third down that calls for the ball to be put into play passed the little blue line on the tv screen that indicates herre’s where the first down distance is? HOW FRIGGIN MANY third and 7’s were answered with a three yard or less pass in traffic. Murray, good lord, son, you just keep on making turnovers. I’m tired and happy they won, more so that most, but the truly great teams play 4 quarters ilke the dogs played the 4th quarter. ‘Nuf sed.

I predict that Mizzou will win a bunch of games this year – so I would not say they are a bad team or no-bodies. As to the D – it will get alot better when we get our starters back. Think about Jarvis with Ogletree to help. And with our safties back, it will change pass coverage completely. Starting to smell like dome match-up with LSU/Bama. Tall order there but winner probably gets into national championship. On offense, we can’t start out so slow as season progresses, or could be trouble against better teams. I don’t mean GT when I say better teams.

I don’t ever worry that our coach will get caught in some awful recruiting scandal or trolling around town with some co-ed. That said, I think this team is championship caliber RIGHT NOW with a creative and courageous offensive coordinator. I kind of gave up on Bobo tonight. While watching the game I accurately predicted the EXACT play calls in sequence for the first 3 UGA drives of the third quarter. Although we came back from a less than stellar 2.5 quarters, I’m still not convinced these Dawgs can play with the big boys. I still look back at loses to Boise State and Michigan State last season. Murray is still a pretty loose cannon, and we can’t shake stupid penalties. The D looked impressive without 4 key starters, and J. Jones played like I wish all of our boys had played. never ceases to amaze me how little you truly know about football….first of all, crediting Dawson with stopping the fake punt totally disrespects the incredible effort Richard Samuel made to stop that play….it was important enough that Richt himself credited him with the play of the game…secondly, the ball to Brown wasn’t underthrown. it was actually gonna hit brown between the numbers but for the very good play by mizzou’s lb that didn’t bite on the play action and dropped into coverage right in the path of the pass….seriously jeff, you are just another guy who “likes” sports who knows where to put the comma….you really don’t have a clue.

First off…yes, for the last time…it was a fake punt, not a fake field goal. Georgia’s Dawson tackled the runner after her ran for about 5 yards. Second…Georgia cannot afford to start out jittery like this each and every game. They come across a top-ranked opponent, they will get clobbered. The key, once again, consistent football. Jarvis Jones played awesome on defense. He was just incredible. Michael Bennett played an inconsistent game. He needs to make those crucial catches. He missed a wide open catch…and had real estate in front of him. I really wish they would get Todd Gurley more in the backfield. He seems to really do a good job…but Malcome had a good game as well. The placekicker…man, does he need practice! Overall…I would give GA a B. Still more room for consistencies! GO DAWGS!

Congratulations to the Georgia Bulldogs. Evidently I watched a different game than you did. Missouri outplayed the dogs on offense and defense. A silly fake punt attempt, and 2 costly turnovers inside the 5 yd line spelled doom for the Tigers. Heck even the “sisters of the poor” can win games when it’s handed to them on a silver platter. Over 400 yds of offense by Missouri against a so called powerful SEC defense. We’ll fix our mistakes, but you just can’t fix stupid. Congratulations. Job well done. You showed those Missourians who’s boss. LMAO

Hawk has got to be GT suppporter. He has the hatred dripping because he supports those losers on N. Ave. That will be a fun game at the end of season – another ass whipping. He doesn’t even have the guts to come out and say for whom he roots.

I was there in 80 and 81 – the 80 dawgs team had a great and underated D. Buck Belue could not complete a pass and Herschel had a bum shoulder yet kept running. It was a simpler time in those days. Players were much smaller and slower.

Listened to first part of game on the radio and the announcer mistakenly stated that the first half was going so fast that the game would be over in two hours! This game was a 15 round heavyweight bout that didn’t get rolling until the last half and then it lasted what seemed like forever. The Jekyll and Hyde Bulldogs kept the offense on the bus until the end of the third quarter. I like everyone else kept waiting for the Offense to show up before the defense ran out of gas from having to pull their tails out of the fire. I guess we have to remember they don’t get pre-season games like the Pros but heck, neither does any other team. Let’s pray we continue to mature and learn from our mistakes. I am praying for patience and a stiff upper lip this year. I only had to leave the room once last night. Lastly, two observations, Missouri’s defense sure stunted a lot and confused us on offense while we sat down with three to our detriment a lot of times. Second, only the Evil Genius can pull a fake punt on us and make us look like unprepared fools. Welcome to another year of heart attack Georgia Football!

Murray was surprisingly shaky for much of the first half. But Missouri played with great speed on both sides of the ball, and that crowd either had a great sound man or already qualifies as one of the loudest in the SEC.

As well as Jones played, Mizzou moved the ball. The faked punt changed everything, and that is not to belittle y’alls win in any way. Columbia won’t be an easy stop for anyone this year, including Alabama. The setting is already SEC caliber.

Would like to see Richt ease up on suspensions. We are putting ourselves at a disadvantage. It almost cost us this game. I know they need discipline, but why penalize everyone else with a stricter policy.

It was a great win, but UGA has to perform from the opening kickoff, not just in the second half. Football is four quarters, not two. The offensive execution has to get better, if not they will lose to Vandy and Tenn. befor the SC game. Don’t know who to blame, but the OC has to get this offense moving with better execution. The line will get better but, it better be quick. The passing game needs to be upgraded. The offense should be moving like a fine tuned piano not like it’s stuck in first gear.

Also, you should have pitched a dhutout agains BUFFALO.

Rob Hilliard

11:07 am

We just saw a Georgia defense missing four starters muffle a fairly good offense featuring an extremely mobile QB and 6′6″ wide receiver who was #1 rated H.S. player in nation, with the exception of two breakdowns in the secondary. Hard to imagine that will happen when Bacari Rambo replaces Connor Norman at free safety and Alec Ogletree & co. return. In the meantime, we have two wins and Norman has gained invaluable game experience in Rambo’s absence.

Theus looked … well, like a legit freshman starting his first SEC game on the road in a much-hyped contest. He was beaten cleanly on a few occasions by a very experienced defender and schemes requiring an OL to have quick thinking without premature action. He’s a beast and will get better as the season progresses. Good to have FAU and then Vandy at home. He’ll grow quickly.

Bennett uncharacteristically didn’t latch onto a few passes he normally grabs. Everyone has a game like this. Marlon Brown shows what happens when a defense tries to focus on taking away Tavarres King. To be sure, Todd Gurley is more explosive. But you can see Keith Marshall has the goods. There is absolutely no comparison (as one blogger indicated) – in style or in skill level – between Marshall and Crowell. Isaiah had toothpicks for legs, and it’s hard to see his future as a pro RB – maybe a WR. Together with Ken Malcome and Richard Samuel IV, the Dogs have the latest – and fully stocked – version of “running back U.”

With all the hype of the Mizzou contest, I’m hard-pressed to fault players for a somewhat lackluster performance versus Buffalo (which piled up 56 points against Morgan State). They’re going to surprise a few teams in the MAC this year.

Give Missouri some credit for stiffling a Georgia offense during most of the first half. They had months to prepare for our tendencies. Murray will be fine. When he had to perform, Aaron elevated his game and drove the offense down the field.

Just hope Jon Jenkins is okay. He was walking gingerly off the field in the fourth quarter.

Good win – but nothing other than Jones screamed elite or top ten team about that performance. If you are a top ten elite team you are expected to go in and handle an unranked physically inferior team with ease. Not wait till they wear down to take control.

Same inconsistent QB play, OL has some issues. WR and RB look pretty good. Defense has some good (2 great players) but stlll gave up too many plays.

No dog in the hunt , but Georgia fans calling out Bama is hilarious. Missed the last time they played? Missed those national championships?

Georgia fans and team have a reputation for being poor winners – hard to argue against that idea.

That is something we should all aspire to. Hopefully other guys on the team will not let him shame them. As for Gurley I will blindly speculate that they are going to try to keep him healthy for later on…
Murray looked fine except being jittery in the beginning, overthrowing passes. His receivers are the ones that looked tight. Without the dropped passes the game would have gotten out of hand much sooner methinks. Overall, a solid effort by players who know how to execute and have the physical ability to do so. Coaches just got to get everybody ready for game time…and cut down on the penalties arrrggggg…!

Missouri is going to be a good SEC member, in FB and BB . I thought their lack of depth hurt them last night after some injuries and they started wearing down late in the game. They have pretty good skill players so I think they’ll be fine.

May as well give the game ball to Jarvis J. He is something special and has really improved his draft status by coming back for his sr yr.

This trend of snapping it to the QB and running it reminds me of girls flag football. The Vandy/S.C. game was like that, too. Did you hear that Mizzou? You play girls flag football!

Schultz,

You need to go back and watch the game again. Richard Samuels snuffed the fake punt and Murry’s interception was not due to an underthrown ball, but due to an outstanding defensive play by a Mizzou linebacker.

It’s amazing how you can insult UGA while at the same time trying to sound like you a praising them. The Dawg’s showed real character going into a very hostile environment taking the best shot the opposition could throw at them and then as a team asserting themselves and blowing the opposistion out of the water.

First hats off to NYC Village Pourhouse and the dawg alumni there, man that was fun ro watch with everyone. Second observation, not sure why all of these fringe dawg fans think they know better than CMR and are critical of the game and or Murray. He had 239 yards and 3tds. Several dropped passes, a 40 yard hookup with bennet recalled due to penalty. He played well and was the stabalizing force last night. That was a damn good Mizzou team that had this game circled all off season. Their team wanted to prove to themselves , their fans, and the nation that they were legit for the SEC. That made them dangerous and game. A win on an SEC opponents field isnt easy, CMR does it with regularity. This season could be specail. Support the team and quit your crazy pontifications about the quality of anyone’s decisions or play on the field. Finally, TG is a beast. Anyone else notice whats different about him, after breaking off that 40 yard run, he ran back to the huddle! We ceratinly havent had that type of player in a long time! Go Dawgs!!!!

nice win, but calm down, it was against an unranked newcomer to the SEC. a few things I learned is you’re not going to win a game against a quality opponent if Murray insists Bennett is the featured weapon. Teams leave him open for a reason. The other is thing I got from the game is that Jarvis Jones abused the OT late in the game and made some plays. Hopefully what Mizzou and Texas A&M learned was that it’s the SEC and even the 4th and 5th best teams in the conference can go on the road and kick a$$.

Hey people BoBo called a great game ! The bad throws & dropped passes. Made it look bad. Only time I got upset was when we had the ball on the 2 late in the game & got called for false start. Instead of Murray looking to the sideline for the change in the play or formation !! That was a no brainer Just line up in power & run the damn ball right at them. We did on the next play. Malcome scored the in your face TD. That was a good test for was. A knock down get down street fight & we passed the test. LET’s get behind these Dawgs Show some true support Cuz there is no telling how far they can go !! Just look at what happen in the USC (cal) game they fault back & finished the drill !! Don’t think we stand a chance if we play three quarters the way we did againt Misso against Tenn-SC-Fla…..Misso wasn’t even a top 25 team…..sorry to say this but they beat themselves with the turnovers………………..does anyone else notice that at times Murry has this ” deer in the head lights look” i swear it seems to me in the big games he has a diffrent look than when we play patsies? Anyone else notice that?

I was upset at halftime….if it wasn’t for JJ we would have lost that game!

Why did we go from handing the ball off deep to the tailback vs this little half toss to the tailback…..almost cost us on the first play from scrimmage

Offensive Line did nothing against them for the first three qtrs…..we will need much better oline play (running the ball)against the big boys or we will be in trouble.

I was frustrated with Murray during the first half last night too. However I watched the game again this morning and have a completely different opinion now. Basically, he threw 1 unwatchable ball in the first half. Bennett dropped 2 passes that were both good throws. The back shoulder throws to Wooten and King were put where only they could catch it. That is what Murray is supposed to do. The int was the only bad decision decision he had all night. I think everyone is expecting too much from him. He can’t throw it and catch it. Murray played an outstanding game. Marlon Brown was clutch last night but he had 2 drops that were perfect passes and great decisions by Murray. Murray helped the dawgs win a huge road game last. The fans need to give him credit!!!!!! If the receivers catch those good throws early last night, his stats are much better. Let’s hope everyone stays healthy. Go Dawgs

10-2 is a good year! Right?

September 9th, 2012
1:03 pm

Missouri has maybe two starters that could start for Georgia. Maybe a WR or two. Their QB can’t throw. Their defense is undersized compared to a typical SEC defense. They are Vanderbilt. and they played like it. A better coached and disciplined team has that game in hand at halftime. But UGA needed a dumb fake punt call and some great plays by Jarvis Jones to finally put the game away in the 4th. This team has no business in the top ten, much less #6 or whatever it will be this week. But by all means, celebrate like Georgia won the SEC after this one.

The Dawgs have struggled in the 4th Qtr. over the last couple of years. Last night demonstrated what an improved S&C program can do to change that storyline. The Dawgs hunkered down and put the hammer spank on Mizzou when it counted the most. The rest is just the prelude to the dance.

Orl Dawg, question is, why is he throwing to Bennett so much in the first place? Can Georgia not design plays to get King or Brown open? What happened to Mitchell playing some snaps on offense? Why throw that much at all when you have a game-breaking back in Gurley, who was rarely used in the 1st half? I agree that Murray did not look as terrible individually as much as the offense in general looked awful and unprepared in the 1st half.

Jarvis Jones responsible for a drive starting inside 1 and a drive starting inside the red zone. The actual offense scored 27, only 9 in the first half, against a defense that will have 40-plus dropped on them routinely by the other contending SEC teams offenses.

For the record – I too did not like the taunting with the signs after the game. We did keep our mouths shut during the week when Mizzou ran theirs – and of course, we just don’t know what was coming out of the stands during the game when we were struggling. Maybe just frustration and release of same. But need to do better.

However – getting a lecture from a GT fan on sportmanship is tough to swallow. The cheapest, dirtiest players around and punk ass fans I have ever been around. And everyone knows it.When I go to their games at Grant Field – I just shake my head at the antics of grown men who support GT. I am consistently shocked when I come on here and read posts from fans criticizing Aaron Murray. “He needs to calm down, He needs to play better for us to beat good teams, I guess he’s our best option for now.” I think that the people who make these comments obviously know nothing about football and have never even been on the football field to know any better (and yes, I played high school football, not college, but I was an All-State cornerback). He completed 63% of his passes last night with three touchdowns. He had very little time to throw the ball all night; Mizzou blitzed nearly every down. I know he had at least six balls dropped (Bennett dropped three, Marlon Brown two, Merritt Hall had one hit him in the hands as well). Mizzou’s corners were all over our receivers all night; he had no one wide open all night; all the throws were to small windows. He also had a completion to Bennett in the first half on a third down play that would have put us in field goal range taken away by a false start penalty.

Sure, he missed a few passes and had the linebacker make a good play and tip the ball to himself, but no one is perfect. He’s on pace for 36 touchdowns and 6 interceptions through the regular season. He has good footwork, gets outside the pocket and makes plays against the blitz. He made good reads last night. He will easily break every Georgia passing touchdown record if he stays healthy this year.

I thought he played well last night and led our team well. I’m not sure what game all of you pessimists were watching.

DAWGFAN12

September 9th, 2012
2:27 pm

I also thought our defense played very well; Mizzou has some talent on offense with some fast players. They will give people in our division a tough game.

Mizzou had 130 yards and 14 points on two plays; if you look at their total yards and points for the night, you would see this is a large percentage of their total offense; three points were on the offense giving turning the ball over in field goal range.

Both of the touchdowns came on posts down the middle where the safety should have been helping out in the cover two that we were running. Bowman, our young corner, got beat and there was no one in site helping out over the top and the Mizzou receiver just outran him to the goalline. On the other BSmith got beat on the same route after missing the jam; again he had no help over the top. This is simply an experience problem. Nothing against Conner Norman; he obviously has higher moral standards than Rambo but I doubt the bulldogs get burned on that same route twice with the starting DBs in the game. Overall, very encouraged with the D play moving fwd. I think this will be a good confidence boost.

Read: catch Murray’s passes! He stood in there once and got whacked while tossing a nice throw to one of our best receivers who was in a position to gain some serious yardage. Our star dropped it. Dropping those types of passes demoralizes the QB, and it’s like an extra life for the opposing DC.

I’m glad this was our second opponent of the year and not our first. We needed last week to work some of the bugs out & be ready for MIZZOU. No more BYUs, etc. for our first game!! Dawgs plsyed well as a team and deserve the win.

@ 5150 UOAD 1- UGA doesn’t play USC this year. 2- South Carolina would have to play a perfect game for your scenario to be pausable and as we all know, they can not get out of their own way at times. I would not bet the chicken farm on South Carolina just yet if I were you.

@mizzoufan

I’m a huge Mizzou fan and I hated that statement from Richardson but I definitely think we showed we belonged in the SEC and while I was impressed with your football team I was more impressed with the Georgia fans. Had several interactions with them and they were all nothing but extremely nice. Hope you enjoyed your first visit to Columbia. And I will say your defensive has perfected the art of the fake injury so it that sense the old man football was correct. Good game in all the better team won.

Dont worry,Missouri will get it’s statement victory over South Carolina..Take it to the bank.

Mizzou and Texas A and M wasted their time booing while players were on the field unable to get up. So, the only way you think you can compete in The SEC is to run a hurry-up ? We’ve seen hurry-up offenses for 80 years. You Lost by more points than you put up with that offense. And, you and Texas A and M, Lose 6 games to just SEC teams in 2012. By no means is UGA the best team in The SEC.

6 of the Top 25 and 8 of the Top 30 in the AP Poll are SEC teams. Where are Texas A and M and Mizzou ? No votes.

WIll our coach EVER tell the truth about suspentions? He said Monday they would all play, but never made the trip. Don’t think he really wants to win.

Hey posters, read the article! JS said it was a fake punt which lead to a field goal. You’re so stuck on removing the splinter from the Dawg’s eye, you miss the beam in your own. Gripe, criticize all you want, the Dawgs were the best. The Tigers put up a great fight, but were over matched and outmanned. Let the big Dawg eat and give the opposition their due. Go Dawgs!

Wow, does Arron Murray’s fecal matter also smell like roses? I, as every Georgia fan should be, was completely ashamed of our game against Missouri. How can you write a love letter for that outting. “The Dogs had several early hiccups Saturday.” you wrote. We were vomitting up our shoes and tripping on them!!!

“It’s too early to know if Georgia is a great team.” OK, maybe you missed something so let me help you out with this. They are not. Our defense is pretty good but the offense is on life support. The family cat leaves things in the litterbox that look better than our offense. What do you think is going to happen when we play a team that doesn’t give us two and a half quarters to make something happen? We’re gonna eat turf is what’s going to happen.

I guess I don’t know a lot about this football program nowadays, seems all I can remember is 2-0. I also don’t know much about being such a bitter, angry person. Must be a miserable existence, I bet you are a joy to your family, your co-workers, and everybody else you interact with (same goes for the rest of you haters, very sad). GO DAWGS!!!
