VIDEO: I was passed over again by Augusta National

(So there was a little hiccup at Cinesport headquarters with the machinery. Here’s a video recap of Augusta National’s decision to add two women members. Just consider this like an NBC Olympics broadcast.)

Augusta National never comments on membership and certainly never had welcomed a woman into their membership before. But the club broke both practices on Monday when it announced former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and financier Darla Moore as members. It was a great and long overdue move by club chairman Billy Payne and Augusta National members, who forged right ahead into . . . well, the 1900s. I spoke about the historic decision with Cinesport’s Noah Coslov (and also told him my shocking recommendation for the potential third woman member).

– If Braves serious about East, they need to beat Nationals now

– NFL is damaging its own product with replacement officials

– Falcons’ defense still showing reason for concern

A bit surprising that the IBM CEO, Virginia Rometty, isn’t also one of the first female members.

Danny O — The only reason I can think why Virginia Rometty wasn’t added as a member is because that’s what everybody expected, and Augusta National likes it that way … Of course, there’s also the possibility she was invited and said no.

I know how ya’ feel Jeff …

I just got the e-mail this morning from The Masters Tournament regretting to inform me that I (like you) again had been “passed over” for my application to attend the 2013 practice round.

Maybe they’ll invite you to join and me to come next year …

Jeff, could it be that Billy and Co just don’t appreciate your brand of sarcasm like many of us do?

How could they NOT like the “Count?”

That makes a lot of sense, Jeff. That way if anyone asks about Virginia, they can spin it that this decision wasn’t influenced by outsiders.

BTW, if what I have read is true, it seems like Billy Payne set his eyes on this not long after taking the helm at Augusta National. He knew that it would have to be a slow and carefully choreographed process, and went about it with diplomacy. Branch Rickey tactics at play in 2012.

The next woman shouldn’t be Madonna.
The next Female member of Augusta National will be…insert drum roll…..

Tiger would never win the Masters again and it would be an easy to keep him away. LOL

Travesty! There will be NO celebration of this racist, sexist, homophobic golf club until the day they let a black man compete in…..uh er…I mean a woman offered membership…uh… er….I mean a black woman allowed to….uh er….I mean a gay black transgender to play in the Masters and oh yea, be appointed to Chairman….(or would it be Chairwoman? Or Chairperson?).

With Billy Payne’s southern bell accent, he looks like a UGA graduate to me.

Billy Payne is basically making a nice living on the legacy of a Tech graduate, Bobby Jones.
