Over/unders: Dogs 9.5 wins, Jackets 8 (agree or disagree?)

The guys who set odds see Alabama winning 10 to 11 games, most among SEC schools.

FLOWERY BRANCH — I’m out at Falcons’ camp today for a column I’ll be posting later. But until then, I just received these college football over/unders from the online sportsbook Bovada, which must have me on their email list because they think I’m a degenerate gambler (and I have NO idea how they came to that conclusion).

So I thought, well, here’s a good conversation starter. Below are all of the odds from Bovada. But

Which way would you go on Dogs? More or less than 9.5?

here are the ones that you’re probably most interested in. The over/under on Georgia’s win total is 9½. The over/under for Georgia Tech is 8.

For what it’s worth, I would go over on both.

The SEC schools listed: Alabama 10½, LSU 10, Georgia 9½, Arkansas 8½, South Carolina 8½, Florida 8, Auburn 7½, Tennessee 7½, Missouri 7, Texas A&M 7, Mississippi State 7½, Vanderbilt 6½, Mississippi 5½, Kentucky 5½.

The ACC schools listed: Florida State 10, Virginia Tech 9, Clemson 8½, Georgia Tech 8, North Carolina 7½, Miami 7, Virginia 6½, Duke 3½.

The odds on Georgia to reach a BCS bowl game are about 2.3-to-1 against.

DawginLex – be careful what you ask for.

Last year – UGA went from a bottom 3 SEC team to the #5 SEC team – and was completely outclassed and embarrassed by LSU in the second half – just completely obliterated on national television – very embarrassing for UGAg that day.

So what has changed?
Your OLINE is worse off now then last year.
You are depending on a stiff 5th year RB that moved to LB and has been a bust.
– another RB that was so buried on the depth chart – he quit the team and through thug attrition – he is your best. and two freshman that played small classification football in NC.

Oh yeah – a QB that chokes in every big game he has played in and has lost 11 games the last 2 years.

Yeah boy – UGA is an elite program.

Tide Rising,
I look for UF to be about 8-4 or 9-3 this year, but I expect them to be back to championship level in 2013. Not too many of us realized how much rebuilding needed to be done after all the coaching changes and player attrition over the past 3 years. I like the way Muschamp is trying to build a PROGRAM as opposed to how Urban just built an elite team. It surely wasn’t built for long term success.

Both will go under. UGA-9. GT-7.5. UGA, with a couple of breaks could go 10.5 but GT will hang at 7.

Must be tough realizing your team is less talented than Colorado and UCF. 55 years of domination must surely Sting an knowing its going to get much worse each year has to put a burr in you A$$ too.I suppose I too would be bitter if my team had only beat its most hated rival 15 times in the last 5 .5 DECADES. Beast,

That’s realistic although 8-4 is shooting a little low this year. The only team that I see as being a probable loss is LSU. Otherwise every game is winnable on your 2012 schedule. Plus the new offensive coordinator may get a fire lit in the gator offense by the time the bigger games roll around in the middle of the season. I expect 2013 UF will be back to national prominence. I just think 14-0 is a lot to ask no matter who you are.

UGA – better watch out – MO will be a tough game. Vols will beat UGA – then South Cackalacky – then Florida – then Auburn – and the fight is out of the Dawg – GT will beat UGA – and the search begins……..

To the earlier poster who said the UGA fans were piling out of Sanford and Sons in the 4th of the Boise game, I do believe that one was played at the Georgia Dome. If not, I really was having a bad night! I would love to think UGA would win at least 10 or 11 this year, but we always manage to p..s away some that we should win, so to me 9-3 might be about right. And guys, let’s quit slamming each other ooc schedule. We all should be ashamed of some of the teams we play. But I give some credit as Alabama vs Michigan is a heck of an opener, not so with UGA vs Buffalo. GAT vs VAT is a nice opener as well, but Alabama vs Western Carolina later on? UA practice squad would win that one by bunches! Also, congrats to Auburn and Clemson stepping up for that opener. Money do talk, don’t it!

Big Al,

The 41 championship is dubious indeed. Even Bama fans will tell you that. But my point is that its a wash considering that the 66 team was easily the best in the nation. Bama won mythical national titles in 64 and 65 but started out the 66 season ranked 3rd behind Mich. state and ND. Those 2 teams played to a 10-10 tie and both stayed home for the bowl season but remained 1-2. Bama meanwhile went undefeated, untied, and thrashed Nebraska 38-6 in the orange bowl game.

Bear Bryant considered the 66 team his greatest team ever and statistically it was possibly the most dominant team to ever stop on the field. But politics had a play considering these were the turbulent 60s and the 66 team was denied what should have been an obvious national title to any fair minded person.

Tide,
I’m aiming a little low this year because of the disappointment over the previous two years. I wouldn’t be surprised if they could somehow go 10-2, but I’m not going to get my hopes up just yet. We still have to actually SEE the improvement before I get all cocky again…LOL. And I was just kidding about the 14-0, but we should be pretty darn good by then.

@DawgBite – just having fun at Bulldog nation – I do like your 5:19 post.

Reality – GT – due to the type of school and the league we play in – will not be an SEC powerhouse. It is what it is.

As for UGA – there is no excuse for UGA to NOT be in the national conversation in most years. UGA has the facilities, the campus, the fan base, the recruiting base, the girls – and yes – the academics.

Seriously – our state has some great higher education institutions – Emory, GT, UGA – and how bout ole North Georgia in Dahlonega – that is a very unique and special school – very impressive.

With that said – Richt is an impressive person – but what the heck is lacking?????
You said it – UGA will lay an egg or two every year and look like world beaters in the same year!

The SEC title game last year showed the 2 sides of UGA.
A great game plan that shut out LSU in the first half – yet stupid tactical and lack of detail in punting to LSU in the second – and became very predicatble. LSU just stomped UGA in the ground that second half. the follow that up with the play not to lose bowl game against Michigan State. Those two games alone tell you that Mark richt is getting totally outcoached against the elite conpetition – where UGA wants to be.

if your going to talk about not slamming ooc schedules than let us be real.

some credit as Alabama vs Michigan is a heck of an opener… agree

not so with UGA vs Buffalo….. agree

GAT vs VAT is a nice opener as well… now that is a back handed slap as far as i am concerned.

-vt is ranked in the top 10- again.

-they are the preseason favorite to win the acc

-we are playing at their place.

- their d is supposed to be the strength of their team this year. common sense says that d’s are ahead of o’s early on in the season.

-but for gt they have dominated the acc.

- they even gave a strong bama team a run for 3/4’s of a game in the peach bowl a few years ago.

-given the fact that most fb aficionado’s say that key to beating the cpj offense is lots of practice time to devote to the spread and all you can say that is a “nice’ opening game?

yeah right!

Probably more pressure on Richt than last year….If he felt pressure. He is by all means a Godly man and winning football games is not the end of the world with him, thus no NC and a staff who would have trouble for the most part getting another job at a football school. Now, he wants to win, but he won’t sell out to do it, thus the split in the UGA fan base. Half are OK with were we are and half have come to the conclusion it’s as good as it’s gonna get. Anything less than 10 wins will be a big disappointment.

I can tell you UGA will have a hard time wining 2 out of 3 against Tech, Auburn, Mizzou, Richt’s 4 wins & 10 losses against winning teams since 2009. Wins .4 of games vs. winning teams.

3 games of winning teams (Tech, Auburn, Mizzou)
X .4 (Richt’s 2 year win % vs. winning teams
=
1 win

So, 2 losses there.

Then Richt plays 2 top 25 teams in SC & UF. Richt’s win % since 2009 vs. teams that finish top 25 is 0%, 0-9, so:

2 games x 0% =
2 more losses

So, UGA finishes 8-4, using Richt’s 2 year averages.
