Over/unders: Dogs 9.5 wins, Jackets 8 (agree or disagree?)

The guys who set odds see Alabama winning 10 to 11 games, most among SEC schools.

FLOWERY BRANCH — I’m out at Falcons’ camp today for a column I’ll be posting later. But until then, I just received these college football over/unders from the online sportsbook Bovada, which must have me on their email list because they think I’m a degenerate gambler (and I have NO idea how they came to that conclusion).

So I thought, well, here’s a good conversation starter. Below are all of the odds from Bovada. But

Which way would you go on Dogs? More or less than 9.5?

here are the ones that you’re probably most interested in. The over/under on Georgia’s win total is 9½. The over/under for Georgia Tech is 8.

For what it’s worth, I would go over on both.

The SEC schools listed: Alabama 10½, LSU 10, Georgia 9½, Arkansas 8½, South Carolina 8½, Florida 8, Auburn 7½, Tennessee 7½, Missouri 7, Texas A&M 7, Mississippi State 7½, Vanderbilt 6½, Mississippi 5½, Kentucky 5½.

The ACC schools listed: Florida State 10, Virginia Tech 9, Clemson 8½, Georgia Tech 8, North Carolina 7½, Miami 7, Virginia 6½, Duke 3½.

The odds on Georgia to reach a BCS bowl game are about 2.3-to-1 against.

ACC has dropped so low a lot of their teams aren’t even listed…Of course with Richt maybe we shouldn’t be either. Likely the most under achieving top talented team in the country year in and year out. But tough to find a loss on this years schedule. We’ll pay for it next year though.

of GT, UT, SC, Auburn, and Florida as people daily get on here and indirectly slam them by saying UGA doesn’t play anybody. I know the Vols are down, but they can still be dangerous. I happen to think Tech and South Carolina are also decent teams, and Florida will not be down long. Auburn is likely still a year away.

Any SEC schedule is tough. period.

Dawgfan, not sure what SECC game you watched, but outclassed?? Don’t think so. If not for 2 dropped sure T.D’S in !st Qtr, UGA would have been up 21 or 28-7. When you couple that with LSU had one first down at the half, i wouldn’t call that outclassed.

Hey dawgfan – your comment – “It might have helped if we had played a legitimate opponent the week before and not some midlevel ACC team with a gimmicky offense” – It’s funny to me how that “mid-level ACC team” nearly beats your top 10 team every season. What does that say about your coaching?? Not much. Though I’m not a Tech fan – it appears to me that CPJ gets A LOT more talent out of his players than CMR (and remember, GT average recruiting classes over the 5-6 years have been about #45 in the nation – compared to what? # 6 or 7 in the nation for UGA??) – that right there proves that CMR is not a very effective coach. If not for UGA’s pansy schedule (you guys only played 2 real teams in the regular season last year – and lost BOTH of them) – CMR would be fired.

UGA is awful, even with their joke of a schedule (which they have every year) they will still lose at least 6 games minimum. Tech sucks too, even worse than UGA.

1953Dawg – agree with your comment – but you have to admit – there is a serious strategic and tactical void in UGA’s game prep. Why punt to the Honey Badger – not once, not twice, but continued to do so after being burned several times ……. that’s called being stupid.

Boise did not punt to UGA’s punt returner – (Boiken?) they rugby punted to the sides and if it went out of bounds – they did not care. Again – I like coach Richt – a great person – but there is something lacking over there in Athens each year – and he is the man in charge.

hey ric unlike uga….. gt did have a series with auburn lined up but they backed out.

unlike uga gt also had a series lined up with alabama but that fell through for some reason.

we have contacted tosu and tried to schedule games with them also but they are booked so far in advance it was useless.

so you were saying?

come on now lets be honest. uga has roughly 10 players every year that are arrested, in trouble team rule wise or ineligible due to poor grades. for that reason alone you cant afford to drop a game against a reasonable opponent.

you scheduled boise state last year at YOUR place thinking it would be good for national exposure and a guaranteed win.

by half time your 4 and 5 star players were playing with hands on hips. never mind that this was a game your team had all summer to get ready for. never mind that it was boise states 2 and 3 star players against the uga dream team.

i can still remember the tv spanning the uga crowd mid fourth quarter as they piled out of sanfred and son stadium like wildibeasts crossing the nile.

nothing like uga revisionist history…..

I would say the best bet is to go with Florida winning more than 8. The offense WILL be greatly improved with Pease as OC……and as an ESPN talking head said this morning…..”Weis is addition by subtraction for Florida.”. QB play will be better. RBs running downhill instead of east-west will be better. WR will be better under Pease as well. TE will be very good……with a lot of confusion motion and different sets (remember Boise State last year?). And the defense….already good….with be a year older and much deeper. Florida is a team to definitely place a bet over bet on. Georgia will cover the 9.5 with only two losses this year…..one of those to the Gators….but they still win the East.

@ Steve “Tech will not win at Virginia Tech, you know that.”

Really, why is that? The game was very close last year. We’ve got more coming back than they do. You can call our defense weak. It may be, we don’t know. But balancing out our weak offense is the loss of 4 5th year starters on the O-line, their two best EVER WRs, and the ACC player of the year. For VT to beat us, they will have to have had a Saban-like recruiting effort to bring in 8 starters on offense and pull off a win against a veteran team with a senior starting QB. I’m not saying 100% that we’ll win, but I’d bet we will.

I sincerely hope no other Georgia player has any more legal troubles this year….or in the future. I am sick of hearing about it. Sometimes you just have to go into the plush green yard you have created and hand pick some wiltered blands and some unsuspecting weeds……and I think that has been done at Georgia. I expect their new culture will raise up high during this season….just a few knuckleheads do not make that team. I expect Georgia to come out firing on all cylinders because of all of this….seriously….can’t we talk about football with the players that are on the field now. UGA should win 10 games easily. What does that get them?? A Capital One Bowl appearance? Unless you win 12-14 games you aren’t in the NC talk which means you are irrelevant. THey are starting 3 new OL?? No proven RB, no threat at WR or TE, a QB whose numbers look great because he throws 5 TDs against the cupcakes yet has a tendency to have his mistakes be costly ones and a coach that plays not to lose instead of playing to win.

Yeah UGA will win 10 games and that sounds great but that is a long way from contending for a NC.

Truth is……none of us will know much about our favorite teams until game 3 or 4….and that is when polls will become relevant to me. Vegas, magazine, and reporter predictions have no influence on games on Saturday afternoon. The players, the coaches, and the fans in the stadiums do. Some of us have gut feelings…..like my gut says Coach Pease is going to make a huge diffence on the offensive side of the ball for Florida….and therefore more than 8 wins. But I will know if my gut is right after the A&M and Tennessee games. Bama fans will know right off the bat with Michigan. Georgia will have an idea after the Missouri game….but for sure later on with SC. Tennessee fans will have a good idea of their team’s potential when they play Florida at home.

We as UGA fans need to change our expectations as long as RIcth is the HC. You should expect to win 9-10 games a year. That doesn’t make you relevant in the national scene. Until we can win 12-14 games a year we won’t contend for a NC. Not only that but one of those 12-14 wins has to be against LSU or Bama. Is that realistic based on what we’ve seen?
