Over/unders: Dogs 9.5 wins, Jackets 8 (agree or disagree?)

The guys who set odds see Alabama winning 10 to 11 games, most among SEC schools.

FLOWERY BRANCH — I’m out at Falcons’ camp today for a column I’ll be posting later. But until then, I just received these college football over/unders from the online sportsbook Bovada, which must have me on their email list because they think I’m a degenerate gambler (and I have NO idea how they came to that conclusion).

So I thought, well, here’s a good conversation starter. Below are all of the odds from Bovada. But

Which way would you go on Dogs? More or less than 9.5?

here are the ones that you’re probably most interested in. The over/under on Georgia’s win total is 9½. The over/under for Georgia Tech is 8.

For what it’s worth, I would go over on both.

The SEC schools listed: Alabama 10½, LSU 10, Georgia 9½, Arkansas 8½, South Carolina 8½, Florida 8, Auburn 7½, Tennessee 7½, Missouri 7, Texas A&M 7, Mississippi State 7½, Vanderbilt 6½, Mississippi 5½, Kentucky 5½.

The ACC schools listed: Florida State 10, Virginia Tech 9, Clemson 8½, Georgia Tech 8, North Carolina 7½, Miami 7, Virginia 6½, Duke 3½.

The odds on Georgia to reach a BCS bowl game are about 2.3-to-1 against.

As soft as Georgia’s schedule is, they should win 11 or more.

Realistic view from a lifelong Dawg:

Dawgs lose 4, maybe 5. Mizzou, SC, fla and one or both to auburn and tech.
Thin line, no proven rb, qb turnovers, missing key players on D, new kickers and the always present
lack of discipline.

tech prob wins 9.

Gambling is still illegal in Georgia and yet football brings out the best in it. Time to legalize sports book and Class II gaming. Love the odds.

Don’t know how many times it has to be said but apparently people still don’t get it. UGA, and any SEC school, has no control over their SEC schedule.

With the patsy schedule UGA has, they will probably do that well, but they’re not that good. Tech should definitely win 8, and may well win 10.

Y’all won’t have any problems with Washington. No one in the SEC is at the level of Bama & LSU. Arky is the 3rd best Team in the SEC & they play y’all better than they play us.
USC & Oregon lose twice. TX & Oklahoma lose twice.
A 1-loss Bama or LSU gets in over a 1-loss Team from the B1G, Big East or ACC.

Middle Tenn is better than Buffalo and Fl Atlantic by a long shot. Presbyterian was only added because Tech had to have a game 4 days after playing VT Labor Day night. Pres was NOT on Tech’s schedule prior to that. The Jackets will beat VT (not easy, but a win), Miami (easy), probably lose AT Clemson (would not in Atlanta though), will struggle but win at UNC, and will show the dwags just how pathetic they really are.

Too many biased fans do not understand that Head Coaches who actually coach directly affect their teams and they lead a point of emphasis with their coaching. Examples?

Mike Leach- Offense
Dan Mullen- Offense
Nick Saban- Defense
Beamer- Special Teams
Richt( when he did actually coach) Offense
Spurrier- Offense
Meyer- Offense
Johnson- Offense…
The list goes on and on. The point is that fundamental development for players when they walk on campus, attitude, dedication and putting their team and their personal responsibility first is what makes WINS and failure causes LOSSES.

UGA- too many questions on Offensive Line- Under 9.5
GT- Defense will once again cause majority of their problems- Under 8.5
LSU/Alabama will either be undefeated or lose to one another
Florida beats their number- IF their offense ever shows up
Arkansas- is a internal ticking time bomb and no one sees John L. Smith doing anything without their play calling Offense Guru- Bobby Petrino pulling the strings and their coaches moving onto other jobs.

@ 1eyedJack…..why do you include BYU in your list? They are at least a Division 1 team with a decent history. The dwags’ only OOC Division 1 opponent is Tech. Yes, the ACC is weaker overall than the SEC, but the SEC teams on the UGA schedule this year, with the exception of USC, are no better than the majority of Tech’s ACC opponents……Miss State? Ole Miss? Tenn? Ky? Not much to brag about there. Even Florida isn’t that good now, but they will still beat the dwags. Auburn is an unknown.

Supersize – why are you and most Tech fans that stupid? EVERY year, you sit there and say how pathetic UGA is, and how Tech will beat UGA, and it almost never happens. If UGA is pathetic, yet Tech loses to them almost every year, what does that say about Tech? Tech will NOT win at VA Tech either. You know this.

Jeff, I would have to go UGA under and GT over. If you read these blogs, UGA is lucky to win 3 games because of that no discipline, incompetent head coach we have and that idiot we have as OC. On the other hand, GT has a genius HC ( if you don’t believe me just ask him) that will probably win 11 games without the players, he is that much smarter than the opposing coaches ( again if you don’t believe me just ask him). Seriously, I think we cover and counting a bowl game I think Tech can cover (we’ll know more about Tech after the first game)

@ Winning and Losing …. That was actually a fairly good analysis, but I think Tech’s D will surprise a lot of people this year (including a lot of Tech fans). And I think UGA’s D is vastly overrated, and “choke” Grantham will probably be gone by the end of the year because he is out of control.

bama will not…repeat WILL NOT play for either the SEC champ or any other championship with nothing better than a 10-2 regular season record.

Over for the Dawgs.

I would say over for Tech, but I’m not sure about the psychological effect that an opening loss to VT will have on them. Tech is a soft program that folds easily when the chips are down. After they lose to VT their whole season could go down the drain. They could just give up. I didn’t watch Tech play much last year but against UGA they looked like they were just going through the motions. This program has no fight to it. Therefore, I say under for Tech. After they quit on the season and their depth problems catch up to them later in the year like always, they’ll probably only win 7 games after all is said and done.

Thanks.

@ dwagfan…..Tech does indeed have a bad habit of folding after big games, win or lose. But the addition of a new strength and conditioning coach is hopefully going to change that trend, which incidentally goes all the way back even to Bobby Ross’ teams. I DO NOT believe we will lose to VT. But how we respond after that will indicate how the rest of the season may play out.

I think UGA is going to go over, but Tech could be right on or under. Tech starts with a tough first half…@Va Tech, Virginia, Miami, and @Clemson all in the first six. That was 3 of their losses last year. I’m guessing it could be three again with Virginia being the only win. Then they have BYU, @UNC, @Maryland, and @UGA in the second half. I cant give them UGA right now, and the other 3 could be trouble…especially the road games. Im saying 8 wins at best, but I wouldnt be surprised if its less than that.
