Falcons are a joke. Noodle arm is not a qb who wil lead this team anywhere. Vangorder is a clown and should be fired asap! He can take the entire falcons secondary with him. Ray edwards and dunta robinson both are overrated. This defense is so bad, I don’t know what else to say. We ave up our draft for a wr who can’t catch and we have a qb who can’t complete deep passes because he has a noodl arm. Strike up the band, the birds will have an early exit from playoffs because the just are not good. The bears suck andwe managed to get blow out by them. Enough said.

This regime is good I will admit, they put the Falcons in a place they’ve never been with some model of consistency (4 back to back winning season, 2 playoff seasons in a row). However, at the end of the day when it comes down to it, this team has consistently failed to show up in big games. They’ve been outcoached, outschemed, outsmarted, and no adjustments are made. This team is much like the Atlanta Hawks, get in the playoffs but once in crunch time, you will be disappointed. The coaching staff needs to be changed, at least on the defensive end.

Tim, I gave up my season tickets a few years ago and you feel a lot better when you see them play like this (and they are always going to) when you know you have that money in your pocket and it isn’t going to support crap like this year in and year out.

I had already decided that I would not renew my tickets for next year. Tonight’s game reaffirmed that the correct decision was made. Hopefully Arthur Blank will demand a new offensive coordinator from Mike Smith. That’s not all they need, but it’s a start.

Good write up Jeff ,,, I hope Arthur reads it out loud tomorrow to the Falcons front office when he shuts the door and let’s it fly. But, then I wonder if that is his style,, does he really get in anyone’s face over what is completely unacceptable. Or is it one big lovefest of pushing MV7’s wheelchair and the like? Dimitroff should start looking for his next gig, because he ultimately becomes the worthy scapegoat. Does he or others see that our OC and DC can be outmatched and outwitted in any game – even ones against the 7 losing teams we beat. I ask the question,,,, did we really think we were a Julio Jones away from winning it all? and who would have convinced Blank that this was the reality — especially after all of the proof of how bad this team rally is at the core following getting waxed by the Packers in the playoffs. Here’s the run down…
-Arthur promotes his fired GM (McKay) and makes him President & CEO
-Dimitroff and his joke of a scout staff bring in H.S. players disguised as college drafts and sign FAs that have no talent just to appease the fans
-Mike Smith didn’t have a top 10 defense in Jacksonsville and got the HC job because McKay knew him and thought he was a good guy
-Dimitroff is a figure head…no real say so and had zero experience as a GM
-Mike Smith hires an OC that’s washed up with an archaic offensive philosophy, a DC that isn’t a college level proficient DC
-Everytime the team has time off they get embarrassed for being unprepared
-Arthur needs to sell the team to someone who doesn’t get close with the people he hires and forgets football is a business–where’s the accountability???? Not one person on this team and staff is held accountable for the poor performance of this team

As longtime fan, I appreciate the new competitiveness, i.e., playoffs 3 out of 4; 4 straight winning seasons. I still remember the consistent ineptitude all too well

the organization now has to decide if it wants to be elite and if so, take the required steps (examine pats, steelers, saints, pack and do whatever is necessary to emulate that success); the talent is there, the current coordinating is clearly not equal to that task

Would BVG please go back to Statesboro. Maybe they would hire him to wash the uniforms. Our defense is TERRIBLE!!!! Not one of the DB’s could cover my grandmother. Pass rush is a hope and a prayer. 3rd and 12 always nets 15+ for any offense against us. TERRIBLE!!!!!

Hilarious seeing all the shock and awe. Us longtime fans are used to it by now. We just arent that good. Like ‘Dimitroff sux’ said, we don’t have any great players. Roddy is as close as it gets and Abe is too old. Our qb is great if you’re simply happy with being better than Falcon’s history. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem like he is a big game player. A string of comeback wins against dumpster diving teams isn’t really that impressive. (Sanchez has more come from behind wins than Ryan the last 2 seasons, rendering that “feat” unimpressive in the grand scheme of things).

Lets face facts here. I for one never felt the Falcons had an above above average team. What I do believe is the Falcons have a good team. A good offense and good defense. Super Bowl Champions are usually made of either Great offenses or Great defenses. Dont have to have both, but at least one of the two. Until Falcons can step up their game in one area of the other, we will continue to see winning seasons, playoff games but no Super Bowl Champions. My Christmas wish is that Van Goerder get a good college head coaching job.

If not already, Mike Smith will end his Falcon tenure as the best head coach in team history. Even with Reeve’s ‘98 team his overall tenure was a downer. These four years have been awesome and unprecendented…Tonight was a downer, but it’s tough to win 3x in a season vs. a quality NFL team. If the Lions manage to get the 5th seed, the Falcons will be ready for a rematch in the dome.

And so it is with the NFL. Last year we won based on the level of competition put in front of us. If you recall, if you have been following this team for more than a year, we went 9-7 the year prior. Therefore, we were the recipients of a softer schedule. Since we went 13-3 last year, guess what? We get a tougher schedule this year.

But, here’s my deal to all of you bailing on this team. I’ll pay pay top dollar for season tickets to anybody wanting to bail. But, I don’t think I’ll have to pay much because I’ll bet a years salary that 99 percent of you whiney snots that most of you claiming that you’ll never buy tickets again probably have never even set foot in the dome.

Thomas Dimitroff does NOT know how to evaluate talent. He’s the weak link in this organization. He had how many picks when Ryan came out of college. What did he do with it? Plus he gave up a million picks for Julio and what has that gotten the team? NOWHERE.

It doesn’t matter how many picks or talented free agents available, if your GM does not know how to evaluate talent then its going to show up when it counts the most.

If AB has the balls, which I doubt, to cut ties with TD then this organization can get a quality GM and move in a positive direction.

NFC south was soft last year except for the Saints. We had Arizona, Seattle, San Fran(pre Harbaugh), Browns, and Rams. We snuck up on the Ravens and Packers. Like I said, the schedule was softer than it was this year because of the year prior.

One thing that everybody forgets about is the fact that we gave up Harvey Dahl due to salary concerns. That was a bigger hit to us than alot of people acknowledge. The weaker line has kept Ryan and Turner in check this year.

But if we listened to have these kids on these boards, we’d have a new coaching staff, GM, and owner next year.

Why are you clowns still complaining about the refs? Name the plays. Inevitably, most of the plays you will cite will either be inconsequential, or barely significant calls. Almost all of which were made long after this game had been decided in favor of the Saints (halftime).

Listen to the people who played in this game. They were pathetic, and there is no excuse for the nonsense they put on the field for you to watch. Stop blaming the refs. Your failcant players lost this on their own.

Now go back out to the ‘burbs and nurse your wounds.

I have no complaints against the Refs. I wouldn’t have minded getting a similar call on that 3rd down pass to the Falcons 3rd string (I think) tight end that was made against the Falcons D a series earlier. But both of those plays were calls I don’t think should be made. Rogers holding call, it was what it was. He didn’t have to try and wrap his arms around the guys legs and the pass was basically out of Ryan’s hands about the same time as the hold. But, I put that on Rogers and not the Refs.

The BS call on Lofton for hitting a “defenseless player”, obvious Saints defensive guard jumping offsides with his hand over the line upon snap, and the no call on Falcon tight end Reggie Kelly (or whatever his name is) which was also a “defenseless player”.

Next time, watch the game before commenting. All calls went to the Saints.

Ryan played well tonight. Our defense killed us in this game. Say what you want about Julio’s fumble and the red zone failures, but our D gave up 35 points (I’ll give ‘em a pass on the FG after Sproles’ return) to the Saints. Not only that, they gave up 164 yards rushing. It was a total meltdown on D. You cannot possibly beat a good offense when have given up nine straight third-down conversions (5-for-5 on third-and-long) to it.

I put this one on Smitty and VanGorder. If they can’t come up with something better than this (they did back at the Georgia Dome, if I recall), then somebody has to be fired. Drew Brees is a great guy, but I wouldn’t expect a “physical football team” (as Smitty claims we are) to make it so damn easy on him. I’ve been a Falcon fan for thirty years and I’m tired of watching the other team have their way with us. Smitty hasn’t had too many of those moments, but they’re starting to pile up in the collective psyche of Falcon fans. This franchise needs a playoff win or two really, really badly. If we come up empty-handed this year, the fans are going to turn on the team.

These posts crack me up! The great thing about a blowout loss is there is something there for every dirtbag faux fan to point to as the problem. Having said that, anyone calling out Ryan is a total idiot. The guy can play. He is not the caliber of Brees, but tonight, Tom Brady couldn’t have been Brees.

Two things bothered me about this game. The D-line gets no push, which exposes ALL zone schemes. Even if Dunta was worth half what we pay him and we had legit free safety play, they would get punked with the time we give the opponent QB. Second, I’m really tired of hearing all about the Saints. They’ve earned a severe beat down with the way they’ve taken it to us lately, and I want to have a team that will fight every inch of the way down the field. We may not match up talent wise, but dammit, we need to match intensity, and I didn’t see that. Even the GB loss last year wasn’t this bad. We played fast and hard in that game, we just couldn’t tackle the QB. This game we couldn’t get close enough to fling sweat on the guy. It was really sad.

And that was an awful game officiating wise. It was like watching a hockey game in Philly. One side got to play any way they wanted, and the other got hammered all night for everything. Didn’t make a difference in the score, just made it that much harder to watch.

Big guy in the sky, you have helped Tebow, is there anything you can do for us Falcon fans? Since 1966, I never thought I would say this, but our best coach has been Dan Reeves and he never WON a Super Bowl anywhere, but he GOT THERE. I am 60 years old and don’t know when I’ll be facing St. Peter, so Norb Hecker, Norm Van Brocklin, the swampfox(twice,yikes), Leeman Bennett, Dan Henning, Jerry Glanville, Petrino, the Mora guy…and others, big spirit, could you just grant us one real coach before I kick the bucket? Could you take time out from Tebow to give us THE ONE, and help king Arthur make a worthy choice. As Furman Bisher used to write..selah.

The Falcons-Saints matchup is starting to remind me of the Georgia-Florida games from earlier in the century, with Mike Smith playing the role of Mark Richt and Sean Payton as Urban Meyer. Much like Richt, Smitty is a nice, buttoned-down head coach with a nice, buttoned-down team. But Payton’s Saints, like Meyer’s Gators, are the bully on the block. They’re cocky, they’re relentless, they have a killer instinct, and, most importantly, they’re damn good. When the nice team meets the bully, it’s no surprise who wins the great majority of the time.

I’m beggining to fear the Falcons have developed a Club Med atmosphere that’s not conducive to winning the big games. We looked a little scared of the Saints tonight, quite frankly. I’m thoroughly disappointed and quite concerned about this team’s chances of seriously contending for a Super Bowl under this regime.

What a crying shame that the City of Atlanta must be represented by this totally inept ‘team’. I have watched them since their inception, and they have NEVER failed to CHOKE and stink up the place during big games on national TV, especially MNF. There is only one football team in this state with pride, guts and class – the UGA Bulldogs. We run this state!

Loserville . . .agree totally on that. That stat of 40 times+ comes up often from Mr. Choke on these blogs. Its a distorted picture IMO. This team is currently built for balanced attack. There may be games where the plan is to not run, such as Baltimore last year, and it works. But the strength of this team is mixing it up. If Ryan is throwing it all the time that goes against that strength. In almost every win, Ryan has played pretty well to very well – and when Turner is doing decently/well – he has a much greater advantage. What is too bad, is in some of those losses with 40+ passes, they’ve had opportunities to win. But we’ve seen them . . ..it’s the Red Zone issues. Be it bad execution on QB/Receivers or penalties . . ..they gotta get better.

The Falcons pass rush is a little better than last year, but it’s still not where it needs to be, compared to a team like the Giants. Feels like this team rarely gets any pressure up the middle (Babineaux/Peters) and Abraham never shows up in big games.

Well another Game of well we got ready to go all ready Matt Ryan ready coach’s ready(well some were)And the defense ready to Go(oh they went to Brothels) and goin win cause we better team quotes the Falcons coachs and cheerleaders..Now 9-6 it will be 9-7 after we lose to a Bad Rex Grossman n The redskins sealin us as 6th seed and we have play 49ers in wildcard at SF folks and detroit vs Ny Giants…..in wildcard…Now if we beat redskins we will play Ny Giants and Lions 49ers…..and siants vs packers in cold Green bay sold out always never empty seats here at dome its empty seats n library crowd ….

The Falcons got beat where it counts,on the o-line and the D-line! Why havent BVG figured out that his soft defensive scheme hasnt worked since he arrived! Why dont our coaches ever make any adjustments at all? MM does not seem to be the same coach that he was with the Steelers!?!? The defense needs a Jenny Jones make over! It real hurts to get treated like a rag doll by the saints…SMH

Congrats to Drew Brees on breaking single season passing yards record. Also winning the Division.
I predicted a 37-20 outcome which i wasnt far off but Falcons have no reason to ashamed of what happened.
New Orleans year to strive toward a Super Bowl. They played like champions last night and its what expected being at home and having a QB like Brees. We started out slow this year but im elated to get the chance to play in the playoffs.
Look Atlanta Falcons are as talented as the Saints are but i think bringing out a group of players on and off the field confused the Falcons on Defense.
It was a mastery of art by New Orleans Offensive Coordinator. Van Gorder wil just have to figure how to counter attack it.
I see glimpses of comparisons between the Saints and Packers run from last year. They are coming off a streak that may take them far into the playoffs.
I still think they must face the Packers in the NFC Championship and that could very well be Lambeau Field a very tough place to play. Wish the Saints luck and it woiuld be great to see them beat the Packersthis year.
As for my Atlanta Falcons, we had a few setbacks this year, doesnt mean that we dont have a chance to advance in the playoffs. Im still gonna root for them regardless.
Be a good sport and congradulate New Orleans on its win and lets move down the road because theres more football to be played.

As is common, the angle here is wrong. The Falcons did not so much get out-played as they beat themselves. Saints defense sucked too. Falcons offense was just as good except when it came to the red zone but that was not as what made the game lopsided and part of that was penalties also. It was OBVIOUS to everyone that had the Falcons not made the mistakes, that this game was going down to the last few minutes. Sure you could say making more mistakes is being outplayed but that was not the what this article was saying. It was saying that their offense and defense outplayed us and were better hat is just wrong. Cut out the mistakes and this is a nail-biter. Take away some costly penalties, the Jones fumble and the kickoff return and this game was fairly EVEN. When the Falcons got into a position(that they certainly wanted to avoid)of getting behind that much they had to abandon the running game for the most part and the Saints got oppurtunities to light the receivers up. I certainly seen Moore lay some hits on some Saints! Guess that dont count and only the Falcons receivers got hit hard!

Again let me TELL YOU LIKE IT IS AND WAS:

Cut out the mistakes and this was another close game just like the one that went OT earlier this season. Nobody stops the Saints unless they have an off-game offensively OR and this is the KEY to the Falcons POST-SEASON SUCCESS AGAIN THIS YEAR: QB PRESSURE. Pressure Brees and he will throw INT’s all day. Dont work against Rogers though. You have to hammer him and put him down. Falcons better fix their pass rush and blitz some more since the DL is not getting the job done. Play some man to man and do some creative outside the box blitzes from different positions. SOMETHING! or it will be a repeat of 2010……

Cut out the penalties and the Jones fumble for a TD and this was a very close game. Falcons beat the Falcons more than the Saints beat the Falcons.

What synergy!!! The Falcons faced a very, very talented team. Coaching A+, Fans = “12th man”, QB ou-of-this-world, freakishly good. Hey! He broke D. Marino’s record! That is not done every day…27 yrs. it stood. Let’s face it, the Falcons have faced the Super Bowl winner in ‘11 and the team that well might be ‘12 winner.
Can’t ever remember such an awesome display of offense, so well-coached and informed and rabid fans. What we saw last night was rare. The Falcons got beat by a better football team and that’s that.
The Falcons have a class act football team with a bunch of hard-working guys, who might well be in the Super Bowl were it not for these exceptional teams.
I am not ashamed to say I was a fan of the Bills’ teams that went to the Super Bowls. While not as successful as Packers and Saints in that they have “rings”, the same synergy there. Talent, good coaching, rabid fans all made for exceptional teams. It is not easy to put it all together like these three teams have. All three cities have rabid, well-informed fans who wouldn’t let there teams lose at home. Wish Bills could have played SB in Buffalo. Things might have been very different.

Are we really that surprised at the outcome of this game? If so…why?

I’m not surprised. Extremely disappointed. I thought we would win, based on my assumption that Mike Smith and his coaching staff (and especially the players) would have had enough pride and ballz to stand up and be a MAN and do something about the dominance the Saints have over them (by dominance I mean in the sense that the Saints own us since Sean Payton and Drew Brees teamed up).

Tonight was affirmation that the Falcons are NOT an elite team. only above average. Last years 13-3 record really could have easily been 9-7 but for a few luckily bounces. As for this year….One has only to look at who we beat and the number of rookie quarterbacks we played.

Bring on the Hawks. (good grief).

Did you see the mismatch with Grimes on Jimmy Graham?

A guy 5-4 can not expect to cover or out jump a guy that’s 6-7. Lil man Grimes jumped as high as he could, was in perfect position to make a play, but that was a mismatch.

It reminded me of how I use to tease my little brother and play keep away with the ball, why he try’s to jump and get it.

Grats to the Falcons on making the playoffs. U need to send a gift to the league office for making out ur cupcake schedule. Hers is something to chew on folks. As much as I hate the Hawks and the ownership, they are the winningest ATL team we need to rally behind. Second round of the playoffs 2 years running with probably a 3rd coming up this year. Dimitroff cant draft, Smitty and Vangordor cant coach, and Matty, well Matty is just a mat (as in door). No corners, no d lineman, and our LEET (roflmao) offense scored only 16 points.

The falcons are completely transparent on defense. The linebackers are so far back it is obvious that they are rushing four. The NO linemen can decide before the snap who they are going to block. New Orleans will line up 7 in the box. They may rush three , they may rush 5, they may rush seven. The point is, you don’t know. How can professional coaches be so predictable and miss the obvious. I am no expert but I knew how many the falcons were rushing every time and would moan before every play they were going to be burned and they were. Get a clue

Outcoached….again. Saints usually blitz alot. Nope not as much last night….they dropped back in coverage and rushed 3 a lot of the time. And Matty CHECKDOWN did what a game manager must….throw it underneath and let the receiver get blown up!!! Never a throw down the field to challenge the safety.

Guess what! The game film will let other teams know how to dispose of you in the playoffs! 1 and done is in your future again!

The Falcons certainly didn’t “rise up”…instead, they laid down and let New Orleans “french kiss” them with a Mack truck! What a pitiful game on the Falcons part. Julio Jones is much “ado about nothing”. What happened to the “explosive” team the Falcons were supposed to have this year. Matty Ice is a good quarterback, but he can’t compete with the likes of Aaron Rodgers or Drew Brees…the rest of the Falcons with the exception of Tony Gonzalez pretty much “s***”!

Only the Falcons know if this was for real. Beating the Saints last night and coming back to New O and beating them again would be a hard task. Brian VanGorder is either the worst defensive coach in the playoffs or he was trying to hide his stuff for a couple of weeks. Holding that plastic covered play chart before every play looked so disingenuous, because the defense stayed very simple and vanilla. You don’t need a chart to put eleven men on a field no more than you need a calculator.

Julio Jones, while he will be a beast in years to come, is not the WR that AJ Green is. I hope people can finally see the difference.

Both avg. exactly 73.6ypg, but Julio avg. a yard more per catch and has 70 more YAC in two fewer games.

Anybody here blaming this loss on Matt Ryan didn’t watch the game and shouldn’t be allowed to post on this board ever again. Our defensive front was awful. Brees had all day to complete anything he wanted. The Saints converted what…something like 5 of 5 first downs in the 1st half, most of them over 8 yards to go. We had our opportunities, two interceptions and a stuff on 3rd down but we couldn’t do anything other than 3 and out on each. When we did get some drives going, we stalled out and had to settle for field goals. That’s not going to get it done. This team is not ready for the big stage.

The difference between the Falcons and the Dawgs is the Dawgs have the talent to be better, the Birds are about playing at full capacity getting to the playoffs. The offensive line cannot stop the outside rush and without Mughelli they are having a hard time run blocking too. Mughelli is quick enough to bust the DE coming around. Our backs last night were literally getting in the way of our lineman, more than helping. They were where they were suppose to be on blitzes but got thrown around so much they clogged up the movement of the offensive lineman.

GT you are a moron if you think beating a team 3 times is so hard. That is true if the teams are evenly matched!!! That’s no where near the case. They got BLOWN OUT. And the same will happen again in two weeks. The falcons are a bunch of primadonnas who are soft and play with no heart. They only care about money. That is soooo evident. Apparanty what we hoped was not the case is indeed the case with this team…an inability to truthfully assess the quality of this football team and coaching staff by the HC. At week 15 of year 4 of the new regime it is CLEAR this team is 2nd tier franchise with a staff that cannot get it to the next level. Time for wholesale changes. the Julio roll of the dice by Dimitroff was and is a disaster. a complete misread of the sheer quantity of needs this team has. It is very clear after last night’s game that we are copnstantly being out coached. the Saints had a new defensive scheme for our offense and we had an same scheme for their offense, something is not logical to me here. We need a defensive line that can put pressure on the QB Abe and Edwards cn not get it done.No push from the middle and no 1st round pick. like the Braves and Hawks we are not gaining any gound in the division. We are in DEEP Trouble.

Lasst year Green Bay barely made the playoffs and won the Super Bowl. But they played well the last 5 games of the season. The Falcons looked bad last night. The Saints & Packers will kill the Falcons on any night on any field.

Ryan moved the ball with ease between the 20’s. Mularkey then proceeds to muck things up with his play calling.

Not sure I kick that 51 yd field goal in a game that had no bearing on us making the playoffs. Funny, division lead on the line at home in OT and Smith goes all in on our 29. In a meaningless game (Panthers not likely to beat NOLA in NOLA) he plays conservative even though our defense obviously was slowed by a night on Bourbon St.

I hate to say this, but Mike Smith may very well be the new Jeff Fisher. Good coach, will always field a good team, but will likely never win you a Super Bowl. And yes, I know Jeff Fisher was 2 yds away from winning a Super Bowl that his team should have never been in.

Tired of the Matt Ryan comments, without him we would not have won 9 games. Does anyone notice how effective we are in the “no-huddle” when he is calling the plays. Does anyone notice how poor the O line is play, Sintek at left tackle & our #1 choice for left tackle on the bench and MR getting hit on just about everythrow. Notice the last 4 games M. Turner has gotten less than 50 yds, this is the O line, where is Dahl and his nastiness when you need. It’s not Ryan, it falls directly on the scheme, O & D, the co-ordinators, head coach and GM putting the right people in place. The Falcons failed to address the D, with the exception of Ray Edwards who is a bust, instead once again going for the O with Julio and Jacquiz. So quite talking about Ryan and start addressing the real issues, in this case Co-Ordinatiors, head coach and GM.

Those are allot of needs (and I agree on needing them). There’s no way we can get them all filled. The greatest need I can see right now is the defensive front. They get absolutely no pressure on opposing QB’s. I would like to see some DT’s here that can collapse the pocket from the middle. I think the best pressure is when it comes from up the middle without a blitz. But with the Julio Jones pick, that’s not going to happen anytime soon. We’re in some pretty big trouble.

Falcons and UGA the best football teams in America from March until August! The QB for the Birds will never get you past one game due to he can’t throw the deep pass. The DB’s are average to below and ther offensive line is much below average.

Our fans do suck. NO has had a show down there even when Archie Manning was quarterback. They were the Chicago Cubs of football. Atlanta has a lot of transplants at the games. When we play someone from the northeast the crowd is filled with hairy looking people dressed in polyester of the opposing team. Only one team gets supported in Atlanta and it is not even an Atlanta team, Georgia. I am thinking a Baptist minister would not approve of the stuff that goes on in a Falcon game. Mr. Blank has found a home though, and on television he looks comfortable in that atmosphere.

Settle down fellas, I know emotions run high and every time we lose a big game- the fans want to clean house. Here’s the rub the Falcons had opportunities to score touch downs and didn’t get it done. If you kick field goals and the other team scores touch downs you are not going to win. Some of the Falcons players haven’t panned out, Ray Edwards has not been very productive and Abe plays well against teams that are sub par. We are small on the defensive side of the ball and other than Walker getting a sack up the middle, it was few and far between all night. Babs and the rest of the D-line got pushed around. The two rookies Jones and Jaquizz Rodgers made crucial mistakes that killed momentum. I thought Matt played well, but some of the offensive play calling was suspects. I don’t know why you keep kicking the ball to Darren Sproils, Bosher can’t consistently kick it out of the end zone like the Saints kicker. Maybe we should have paid more to retain the kicker we had. The refs missed several calls that would of help the Falcons. There are some players on this team who’s contracts will not be renewed next year. All you can do is forget about this lost, win the Tampa game and look forward to the playoffs. Remember you are what you are………

I think you’re right. Gave up way too much for Julio. I think they screwed the pooch with that move. No way to address any of their needs now for a couple of years. Can’t sign but a couple of mediocre free agents a year or one good free agent. I think the Falcons have boxed themselves in with no way to appreciably improve themselves for a couple of years.

Still hopeful and looking forward to the playoffs – game was closer than the score, but did reveal that the Falcons would have to play at their very best to get beyond one and done – so I am looking to next year.

Where to start?

I thought Ryan played well against the Saints, but had little time and no help from RW, so I am not on the “Choke” bandwagon of members from the NOI.

DBs played as well as they could last night, but we need a man size CB.

LBs are AWESOME.

DL is inconsistent.

Love Julio, and Roddy White when he makes the catch – other options are good as well.

It would seem to me that this team needs a radical change and upgrade on the offensive line in order to reach Green Bay and NO.

In the Spring I hope that GM Dimitroff looks to replace the center and at least one other O lineman, then perhaps can pick-up a darting RB in the middle or later rounds of the draft – or perhaps the Jaguars hiring our OC for head coach will help.

Dunta Robinson = Derek Lowe.

Free agents signings that each team had to make because they had nothing else. Everyone knew both players were overpaid/overrated, but the team basically had no other options if they wanted to compete. I suspect Dunta will be cut after this offseason.

Dunta Robinson was half of the defenses failures last night. He bit on the up route almost every play, and he played deep on the in routes. Brees picked him apart all night and i think if we have a competent corner in that spot then the game is at least competitive. Also, Ryan did have 373 yards with no picks which is nothing to scoff at, but he could only do what the playcalling allows him to, and Milke Mularky’s playcalling sucks. Especially inside the 20. Who calls a screen pass to Michael Turner on the 19yd line?!? I hope someone picks him up as their head coach cuz i dont want him anymore, and then i hope Mike Smith replaces Brian Van Gorder but whatever. Congrats Drew Brees. You’re my least hated and most respected Saint (as opposed to Roman Harper).

LBH – Hawks attendance is amazing considering the product and absolutely certain known outcome of the season. Hawks avg 16K a night, comparable or better than Washington, New Orleans, Charlotte, Philadephia and many other markets.

Braves average 2.5M a season. TV ratings are typically in the Top 10 among MLB markets and #1 on radio among MLB markets.

Falcons have sold out every game the past few years. TV ratings for Falcons are, along with NO, the highest for any sunbelt market.

Thrashers attendance was greater than Chicago and Boston for six of their years in Atlanta.

It took Roddy White a couple of years to find himself and become all pro. I can only hope Julio Jones does the same, because the Falcons gave up a boat load and they really need some help in other Areas. Green Bay and New Orleans are heads above anything in the NFL. The Falcons are a league dream. Just middle of the pack average. Parity. It’s what the NFL dreams of.

LBH – any NBA or NHL team that is averaging 15,000 in a 20,000 seat arena is giving away tickets – this is done in all of those markets, not just ATL.

Atlanta viewership, listenership, merchandise purchasing and attendance are all very respectable, particularly for the Braves.

It is amazing considering the on the field/court/ice results – and the amount of recreation and other entertainment options in this town.

You want to bang on ATL, fine – just do it from someplace else like NO, Philly, or some other rat hole.

Falcons have talent all over the field. The defensive scheme tonight was clearly not the right way to go and executed poorly by the players. It is hard not to get emotional and call for everyone to be fired, but the history of the past four years suggests the Falcons will be better next time. That being said, no excuse for that performance last night. I know Brees and Rogers are good, but we have made it look like they are playing against air and that should not be happening with our talent level.

It’s not Dimitroff…he is the reason the team has any success at all. He has put talent on the roster and the coaches are too stoopid to do anything with it. You could have two Deion Sanders clones as corners and they wouldn’t be able to do anything playing ten yards off and the opposing qb never being pressured. Their scheme on offense and defense suck, they almost never have good game plans, and they never change anything. They had extra time to prepare for the game and did the same thing they always do…play zone and no pressure. Besides that they don’t do the fundamentals…they don’t tackle, block, pass, kick, or catch. I think that goes back to coaching. Pretty bad when we have tons of offensive firepower and can’t score against a good team.

Also…I have been getting frustrated with the lack of respect from the media for the Falcons, but with performances like this against top teams (Packers, Bears, Saints), we really deserve the lack of attention. My problem is with the ugly trend over the last 4 years. We offer no sense of urgency or sense of purpose against top teams or big games that matter. We make all the excuses when we lose. And we look to blame others or make excuses when our offense puts up 13 points or less against good teams. If not for our kicker, I am not sure we could score. This coaching staff is no different than the Dan Reaves era. At least Dan got us to the Superbowl but we need coaches that can make adjustments .. Not go with the same game plan over and over

The Coaching Staff and the game plan are the epitome of mediocrity. This is the same game plan that the Falcons had under Dan Reeves with the red gun. To spend 6 – 8 minutes on a drive to get into field goal position, only to have your opponent score a touchdown in 2 – 3 minutes will get the brakes beat off you every time. The Falcons are experts at running time off the clock not scoring. Those dink and donk passes will only get the ball from the 20 to the 20 (Teams will give up that garbage yardage underneath). After you get into the red zone, there is no room for the dink and donk passes due to being backed up against the end zone. The only thing left is to try to put the ball in the end zone, not run out the clock! How can ownership and management not see this? Our defense is pure bubblegum. Great offenses look forward to playing against that soft 4/3 set with weak tacklers and no rush.All you have to do is look at what the best teams are doing in the league and try to mimic that. Duh!!!

Reality check: the Falcons are a good – but not elite – football team. Three winning seasons in a row is a good team. Matt Ryan is a very good QB – he’s just not at the level of Brees – Rodgers – Brady.
80 percent of the teams in the NFL are not as good as the Falcons. But GB-NO-NE are MUCH better.

Fans for the first 40 years would be happy with this team.

Amazingly, there are very few morons posting about Matt Ryan being a noodle-arm and a loser. He is the only reason the game was not more of an embarrassment. He played great the entire game. In fact, he only needed a little bit of time, and the O-line, though not good, at least gave him enough time to have no sacks, 375 yards, 65%, no INTs. In fact, we had more offensive yards and more time of possession. Ryan made consistently good throws all night. The main offensive problem was penalties and the fumble.

Defense lost this game. Forcing some punts with decent field position instead of starting at the 20 after each NO score would have resulted in more points for us. And the game could have been closer. But zero pressure, inability to track down Brees, poor coverage. 8 for 8 on the first 8 third downs? Give me a break. NO has an elite offense, not a PERFECT offense, but we made them look perfect.

Most of us have played some kind of organized football. We can generally watch any game, high school, college, or pro and spot weaknesses on each of the observed teams. Their receivers are 6′3″ our DBs are 5′8″. If you cut the board too short, go get another one and start over. QB goes up to the line, starts the count, backs off and audibles, clock winds down to 3 seconds. This allows the defense to set and fire, and we do it every time. The OL is not that good to give the DL that kind of advantage.

We have another running named Smith (#35) who looked great in pre-season. Where the hell is he? Give that man a shot. We need some help in the running game. And almost everytime Snelling runs the ball he gets yards. Mularkey finally woke up and involved Snelling in the last half of the season.

Another issue last night involved yards after the catch. There were none. Credit the Saints defense. When our receivers caught the ball they were right there.

Going into the game, I thought we had the advantage with the time off. As the game progressed, i thought it was bit unfair that we were playing in their building on MNF. We earned the right to host The Saints in our building on MNF. As the game entered the second half, it appeared no one cared about winning except the fans. Like we were relived to have made the playoffs the day before so no need to make a statement now. The goal was met even if the objective of winning was not a priority

Concerning the Falcons future, there is NOTHING this team can do (short of a perfect offensive game with no picks or punts) to beat the Saints if we see them in two weeks. The Giants or the Cowboys, maybe we can beat them in their own back yards, but not the Saints. NO WAY. No game planning by our DC or OC at this point will make this team any better. It is the players and their play on the field and these guys aren’t going anywhere in the postseason if the game goes through that sump pump called New Orleans.

After this ROUSING PERFORMANCE, I’m guessing the attendance at next week’s game against the Bucs will be around 20,000 or so, in anticipation of the upcoming Falcons’ playoff “run”.

M fender.. To get yards after the catch require the ball thrown in stride. I am not going to say anything negative about Matt R. Many of his throws are after the break when our receivers backs are facing the defense. The other top QBs find a way to throw to the spot they expect the WOs to be hence catching in stride and producing yards after the catch. We mustva had 5 black jerseys around our guys when they caught our dinky 5-7 yard check offs

The results is a playoff team for the Falcons. Sure we played a very weak schedule but unlike college football a weak schedule in the NFL is still a schedule. Parity is magic, KC beats GB get out of here but it happened. On top of that the Falcons are in the playoffs three out of four years nothing flukey about that.

This is the stage where most Atlanta teams blow it. They can’t take the next step. For the Falcons they have never been this far before, never even had back to back to back winning seasons. We really should be celebrating, though it doesn’t feel like the old Fulton Stadium crowd that weathered the games in the old days. That team seemed like real football, this stuff feels like the world of Sid and Marty, an amusement park.

A lot of over-reaction here, led by the over-reactor in chief Mr. Shultz. What this game means is NO won a game on Monday, December 26th. That is all that it means. Falcons looked flat. Like a team that knew it was in the playoffs, and virtually had nothing to play for. No excuse for that. But I don’t feel any worse about the Falcons playoff chances. In fact, maybe they’re better. Sometimes a good butt kicking is what a team needs to motivate them.

My only complaint about anyone is Smith. And only because he didn’t go cover zero when Brees is throwing the ball late in a blowout chasing a record. Don’t fault the Saints for going for it. Do fault Smith for not ordering Brees to be put on his tail even if it results in a penalty.

Same story…average defense and C- offensive line play. Where’s Dahl? Someone better put some bigger, faster defensive and offensive linemen in the calculus when they go shopping free agency. It’s amazing Matt is not on injured reserve. What a beating he’s taken this season. And Turner, always a fighter but he has lost a step…or two. Falcons better shop for a top tier running back also. FWIW, I expect New Orleans to go all the way this year. Falcons are done and it’s time to sharpen up the drafting pencil with a focus on linemen.

For most of yall that is crying about Falcons, think about this. We never had a back to back winning seasons and going to the playoffs 3 out of the 4 years before this regime, and sure we got our butts handed to us last night, but we just have to dust ourselves off and trying much harder again, believe me this loss sting the players lot more than its sting with us.

I got faith that the Falcons can pick themselve back up and realize they have to come to the game focused and playing at 110% through the game. For the Saints, I dont like yall fans one bit, but I have to say congrads on beating us and getting that record but the playoff is going to be good and bloody and hopefully the Falcons is going to be ready this time.

Actually Mr. Smith – that is exactly what you played last night.

Completely unprepared for a team leading your division, that you play twice a year and with which you gave up 8 for 8, 3rd down conversions in the first half.

Their kicker booms it out of the end zone. Ours? He reaches the 5 yard line, then suddenly we cannot tackle.

Our secondary looks confused as if they are surprised that the other team snapped the ball.

You know what? Enough is enough, this is the 4th year and the Falcons are out coached and over matched.

Not good enough,oh and by the way – how much for a beer?

They are who we thought they were (Playoff team, but no championship pedigree). Really disappointed in our defensive effort and offensive closing ability. Against good teams (note- when everyone got excited about little winning streak, I guess it got lost on who we beat)drives have to closed out with touchdowns.

Can’t figure out why a select few are calling out DRob and he didn’t even have a bad game. That interception was a quite a play. I’m not saying he’s a shutdown corner, I’m just saying aside from our D-Line not getting any pressure on Brees and missing sack opportunities and some terrible 3rd and long defensive calls, the corners and Will Moore played well. Decoud on the other hand is constantly out of position and giving up big plays.

I know Spoon was on Sproles most of the night, but can we bring a safety in the box and give our best blitzer a chance?

I’ll agree with the overall assessment…much like UGA, the Falcons are just good enough to beat everybody else, but can’t beat the top echelon teams. But your comment about receivers “getting laid out” and the D not reciprocating- well, it’s kind of tough when the “judgment calls” of personal fouls on hits go only one way. Several hits by NO could have been flagged but weren’t but when Loftin made a perfectly legitimate clean hit, the flag was thrown. It tends to make you second guess every time you go in to try to break up a pass.

DC Dirty, go back and watch tape of Robinson for this year. Yes his INT was a great catch but he routinely get beat night in and night out. He is better than a lot of DBs int he league but not worth the $$ the Falcons are wasting on him. Dude is basically Big Play Ray with prettier hair and less INTs

So when do these embarrasments start to motivate change? People want to give Dimitroff and Blank a pass but they have sold the fans on this team of Ryan/Smith and it has produced nothing but embarrasment on the big stages. I hate to say it but they look like the Hawks…….built to make the playoffs but get destroyed by the true contenders.

Also, anyone thinking Ryan may develop into a Brees is dreaming. Brees was already All-Pro and Offensive player of the year by the time he was Ryan’s age.

I know hindsight is 20/20 and Julio looks to be a future All-pro but the deficiencies on our lines shows how valuable draft picks are. We sure could use some help there and we’re not going to get it.

The Falcons are certainly capable of winning this years superbowl and beating the saints and green bay (clearly the top 2 teams in football) on any given night. The Falcons just have been settling for MEDIOCRITY and their coach (Mike Smith) hasnt driven them hard enough towards excellence. I saw in the first half of last nights game where there were at least 3 missed tackes which would have changed the outcome. There were also at least 2 pick opportunities where the falcon defenders had their mitts on the football but couldnt execute the interceptions. Honestly, that is the only way you will beat a new orleans team (only two years removed from being the world champions). The other thing the falcons forgot to do last night was PUT PRESSURE ON BREES. IF BREES IS PRESSURED, HE WILL MAKE MISTAKES AND THROW PICKS. Like the last blogger said, dont push the panic button yet until the Falcons have been eliminated in the playoffs.

The only thing I see embarrassing is the thought that some believe the game was fair.

Explain – exactly – WTF the call was on the safety? Looks to me like safety = sack = yards off Brees’ yardage total, so the ref picked up the flag.

Whatever it was, the ref made up a new rule, hence “Saints Rules”. Need I remind that these rules no longer apply in the playoffs (see – Seattle 2011).

Falcon Fan’s you are right….Matt Ryan was the best QB on the field last night. He threw for lots of yards as he led his team to 16 points. YES, the problem was the defense….they intercepted the ball only 2 times. Matt Ryan, hurled it over 50 times like the stud that he is and walked away with 1 td to show for it…..clearly the best QB in the NFC South.

Special Teams put up a speed bump for Sproles….LOL.

Once a year or so I pop in here to point out the Falcons prime problem, and always get attacked by the blind chumps who spend their lives here, but those clowns will never go anywhere as long as VanDumbass is their DC. I tried to tell folks when he was blowing the big games at UGA, and when he went to Georgia Southern (before he totally destroyed their program in one season), and when he went to the Falcons, that moron runs the most craven defensive scheme in all of football (remember Martinez was his protege). It was so bad Gruden was ridiculing the Falcons defensive scheme last night. VanDumbass is always going to get reamed when he faces good offenses with good OC’s like Green Bay and NO. It’s pathetic. The happiest day of my life was when Spurrier hired him, but no, God wouldn’t let us have that good fortune, and sent him back to Atlanta post haste. What did Georgia do to offend him so badly that he would curse us with Van Dumbass for so many years?

As long as he’s the DC watching the Falcons is a huge waste of time. Wait until next year, and if VanDumbass is still the DC, wait until the next year after that, and again and again…

Now that Drew Brees has his record the Falcons should play serious with him.There is reason for hope: we almost beat them the first time. Now we know what to expect. The secondary should know that if the ball hits them in the hands we want them to catch it.

Ryan is not there yet. Yes, there are times when one is pressured to just throw the ball away and live for another play, but if one noticed, he does it every time he is pressured. Didn’t see Brees doing that….he moved out and burned us with the always open by ten yards receivers.

And for heavens sake, 4th and 1 do not throw the darned ball into the ground. How about a jump ball where your guys at least have a 50/50 chance ….the other guys are getting the ball back either way.
