Hello and welcome to that special time of year, and I speak of course of when we overindulge on turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, potatoes au gratin, Mr. Potato, potato chips and onion dip, creamed corn, that string-bean-mushroom soup-Styrofoam-onion-ring thing that nobody really eats but the dog loves it when you mix it in his kibble, probably something with cheese, rolls (three kinds), margarine (light) and three to seven desserts, after which we fall face down in our plate of Cool Whip remnants and lapse into a tryptophan coma … until we wake up at 3:45 a.m. and scream, “NOOO! I OVERSLEPT! Play-doh goes on sale at Toy Zoo for 39 cents in 15 minutes! Where are my keys!?!” And then you take one step and suddenly there’s a strange jingling sound coming from your stomach.

If you're in this picture, you really need to get a life.
By the way, if you go to Walmart on Black Friday, just don’t tell Paul Johnson, or he might punch you. (Actually, after Johnson mocked a barking Georgia fan on his call-in show, saying, “He just got off from Walmart,” I had this vision of Johnson’s version of Hades: Handing out happy face stickers as a greeter .)
So here we are again: It’s Georgia (Tech) vs. Georgia (Tech). (You decide which school goes first. I’m Switzerland. Or Snellville.)
Georgia has the advantage of a better defense. But it has the disadvantage of every running back always seemingly injured, suspended or sufficiently numbed.
Georgia Tech has the advantage of a running game that Georgia hasn’t really stopped in three years. But it has suffered from the hiccups of youth and just allowed 31 points to Duke.
If Tech wins, Johnson may smile.
If Georgia wins, I figure the Richts get to at least second base.
Ever see that famous kiss scene in, “From Here to Eternity?” Get ready for Burt Lancaster and Deborah Kerr on the Georgia sideline.
Pucker up: Dogs win and cover 6.

Wonder if Saban branded this on players' foreheads?
Arkansas at LSU: The Piggies think they can pull the upset, but I don’t see how getting waxed by Alabama 38-14 puts you in the same category as LSU (which beat Alabama). Rest easy, BCS. Tigers win but take Arkansas and 12½.
Alabama at Auburn: Bama blew a 24-0 lead to Auburn in Tuscaloosa last year and lost 28-27. Nick Saban probably still remembers the deli guy who accidentally put mayo on his turkey sandwich 37 years ago, you think he’s forgetting this? He even had a “Never Again” poster with images of the scoreboard and Cam Newton plastered on the locker room wall. Duck. Tide covers 21.
Clemson at South Carolina: Clemson has gone from BCS contender to getting dropped by Georgia Tech and N.C. State and beating Wake Forest by a field goal. For about seven minutes, they had everybody fooled. Gamecocks cover 4½.
Florida St. at Florida: Urban Meyer claims he hasn’t had coaching relations with Ohio State, at least not as he defines it, which should not to be confused with the truth. Just wondering: Given that gut-wrenching, emotional exit from Gainesville, will there be a “quality family time” clause in his new contract? Seminoles cover 2½.
It’s Urban Meyer as “Tommy Flanagan”
Laid An Egg Bowl: I’m not sure why Ole Miss subjected its fan base to extra weeks of Houston Nutt. Does masochism now qualify as a tax deduction? Miss State covers 17½.
Boston College at Miami: Miami president Donna Shalala didn’t consult with Al Golden before declaring the Hurricanes dead for bowl season, which is fine with Golden because he had planned to meet with realtors in State College that week, anyway. Canes work out their anger, cover 14.
NFL Fridge Pack

If Mike Mularkey is looking for a way to pass the time ...
Minnesota at Falcons: The Vikings got themselves back into the Andrew Luck sweepstakes by breaking Adrian Peterson’s ankle. At least, that’s the story I’m going with. Biggest question this week is whether Matt “No Huddle” Ryan let Mike Mularkey call any plays Sunday. Birds cover 9½.
Gainesville West at San Diego: Tebowmaniacs are mad at Denver exec John Elway because he refused to pledge his undying devotion to Tim Tebow. So I guess this means winning two Super Bowls and being recognized as one of the 10 best quarterbacks in NFL history doesn’t qualify somebody as an expert. Blasphemy! Chargers cover 6½.
Buffalo at N.Y. Jets: Rex Ryan’s stock has dropped so much, his wife just put her socks on. (Lost? Google.) Jets win but take Buffalo and 8.
Sorry, I just had to revisit this
Chicago at Oaktown: Jay Cutler is out with a broken thumb. Bears fans are irate. This makes two straight years he ducked out for something less kidney failure. For the love of Nagurski. Raiders cover 4½.
New England at Dream Team: The Eagles have won one in a row and LeSean McCoy thinks they can run the table and make the playoffs. Is there drug testing this week? Patriots cover 3.

Important “Sack Schultz” update: Congrats to Tony Vinelli (brother of Milli?), who won tickets to the Georgia-Georgia Tech game. He is 143-37 to this point. There are four contestants tied for first for the Hawaii trip and 27 folks within two of the lead going into the final week! I’m in 3,080th place. I think that means I have to drive the winner to the airport and feed their dog while they’re gone.

Jeff — Any truth to the rumor that Tech is demanding to move the Tech-UGA game to a neutral site vs. having UGA be the home team every year? Also, has the AJC confirmed that the UGA Athletic Association is looking to expand Bobby Dodd Stadium and add luxury boxes? Lastly, is it true that GT returned 5k unsold tickets to UGA for this weekend’s game? It appears they were unable to move their full allotment of tickets.

“My Commentary”
Once upon a time some 46 years ago, a franchise was born. Through countless coaches, quarterbacks & front office so called gurus. This franchise has been snakebit more than a diamond back in the Arizona desert.
There have been some 10 or so franchises half the shelf life as these underachieving Falcons. Steve Bartkowski and that forever choke versus America’s team in 1980, to the worst playoff loss versus Green Bay and Aaron Rodgers (Oh we need those Saints paper bags after that masacre).
Then came one of the greatest athletes to ever play in the NFL, by far the greatest athlete at the quarterback position. This guy received so much hatred & ill will, even more so than other quarterbacks with far less success.
He is the only quarterback in Falcons history to lead a team to 2 different playoff wins, in separate seasons. It’s really a mystery why he received so much scrutiny, even though he lead a team, at the ripe old age of 22 into a freezing Green Bay in the playoffs. He accomplished something that had never been done before in NFL history – he beat Green Bay in their historic building, yet there was not a single other player on the team that anyone remembers.
The just two years later, he led the team to a division title, and gave the Falcons their greatest one sided win in team history. All this while still receiving blame for losses, and no credit for the wins. Even to this day it is still a mystery why he is still hated, even though he has moved on to lead another franchise.
That brings us to the guy that was supposed to replace his memories in the eyes of the fans. It has not been easy, considering Vick’s jersey still is the hottest item in Atlanta. In comparison, Vick did more by the time he was 24 years old, than CHOKE has done in his, well, whole life.
It’s really amazing how a guy with 4 years as the starter can get so many free passes, even though at age 26 has no playoff success other than committing some 7 turnovers in two lack luster playoff performances.
More to come……………….

Too bad steroids ruined the Bullpups vs the Baby Jackets, Thanksgiving Day game. But then in its final days, Georgia was suiting 100 freshmen and juniors, who all held dummies during the week for the varisty team, while Tech was making announcements over the intercom, “Anyone still on campus who wants to play a football game this Thursday, see the equipment man at Grant Field.”

Some people get more from being positive. Others get more from life by being negative – or a “hater.”
The Matt Ryan Hater is one of these individuals.
If you have enough free time to write an article detailing the history of the hometown team documenting the rise and (in your opinion) fall of the new franchise QB, then you’re already too far gone. And after devoting so much of your time to that article you feel the need to share it with all of us here on the blogisphere -copying and pasting it; then you’re not only hater, you’re obsessed.
Get a life.

What’s with JS and MB’s articles only mentioning CPJ’s Wal-Mart comment, and NOT mentioning his offensive follow-up and subsequent apology? Why does that dude get such a pass? Before, his “I have a chip on my shoulder ’cause Tech gets less respect” thing was cool- I’m a Georgia fan, and even I could kind of appreciate it. I get it. Over time though, he’s really just come off as kind of an insecure jerk. I’d be willing to bet that there are plenty of Tech fans who feel the same way. They bought into it bigtime at first, and after plenty of on-field mediocrity and even more off-field blustering… deep down, I bet a lot of them feel like it’s getting old.

This game is a coin toss. Either team has a chance to win, and its all going to come down to turnovers. The UGA defense hasn’t played anyone of merit thus their number 4 rush stats is untested. Comparing the trip option with Alburn or Florida is comparing apples and oranges.
The smple truth, if the Tech team that played Clemson or V-Tech shows up……Tech wins
If the Tech team that played Miami, Va., or Duke darkens the field…..UGA wins.
As for CPJ, If given time his offence will become a true national power, just as Nebraska was back in the day. The real question is can Tech ever forge a solid defence…….something a kin to the Black Watch of the 80’s( Pat Swelling was a beast). Never the less, the tide is changing, and the days of ole’ are near. At the very least, I’ll take our four National Championships over the one UGA has any day. THWG !

Um, well maybe because he is a sociopath who gets excited in seeing dogs get drowned, electrocuted and slammed to the ground. Not to mention he was admittedly lazy and didnt prepare for games. He would be the last one in and the first one out.
He sure looked good “leading” the “dream team” to a 3-6 record. He didn’t play when the Eagles won their 4th game of the season.

This game is way to close to pick. As far as the UGAG defense that is so good against the run, come on guys whom has UGAG played? The best offense they have played is BSU and we saw what happened in that game. Georgia’s SEC wins are against teams with a combined SEC record of like 23-33 ( and you can honestly say you have beaten a legite team)? NMS had the second best offense at #40 and then it goes down to the low 70’s to 118 for the remaining teams they have played.
GT has the #15 offense in the country and the only people to stop this offense to this point is the offense themselves. I also hear how Tech has not played a team with the players UGAG has either, and honestly get your head out of your ARSES because VT has just as good a D and dare I say without a doubt the better coach. That would be just one that they have played every bit as good as the UGAG D. I mean come on let the kids play and when it is all said and done we can give honest answers. This GT team was picked to maybe win 6 games while UGAG had the dream team.
I have watched both teams play all season and you have to be more impressed with the GT body of work then UGAG’s especially with the players each team has on the rosters. GT is one of the youngest teams in the country with no 5 STARS and maybe 1 or 2 4 STAR players. Being on the outside looking in with the body of work done this season without a doubt GT has outplayed UGAG (while winning 9 in a row is impressive) but don’t beat your chest because whom you beat meant nothing to anybody.

Please bear with the long post; I’ll get to the UGA – GT rivalry.
But first, from a pure SEC perspective:
The Georgia – Florida game is my most favorite SEC East rivalry game to win because of my pure dislike of our Gator opponent and some of the after-game fan encounters; I know some GA fans knowingly show disrespect to our opponents also and I hate that they do, but in Jacksonville, I’ve seen it downright nasty whether they win or lose.
I enjoy a win over the Gators primarily because of our most recent past two-decade losing history and because it is usually the most difficult and more meaningful for us in our effort to win the SEC East.
And the Georgia – Auburn game is an enjoyable win just because it’s our longest-term rivalry, it’s usually not an easy win, and with all the recent history of on-field unsportsmanlike play from some certain AU players and the sideline demeanor of certain AU coaches, and because of the history of off-field controversy (game-ending end-zone sprinkler event).
And because ALL my wife’s family and their children went to Auburn, beating the Tigers makes the holidays’ so much easier to enjoy!
For some strange reason, when we do win, I never hear a ‘War Eagle’ when we walk in the door at Christmas!
But from an In-State Perspective:
The Georgia-Georgia Tech Game is just plain and simple, good old fashion hate!
I pull for GT every game of the year with the exception of ours; I want them healthy, at their best, and on top of their ACC conference ladder when we play.
Listening to and reading their ’superiority’ rantings all week before the game about how they’re gonna beat the Dawgs this year, even if their ‘win’ is a moral 400 – 500 rushing victory, and the scoreboard shows less GT points scored; priceless!
It’s just great to beat Georgia Tech and I’m glad to read our players feel this way.
After CTG has had another year to get our defense playing stout and executing a sound and fundamental 3-4 defensive scheme, I don’t think GT will get their moral ground game win this year.
IF our offensive line can block for four complete quarters and give Murray just a little time to throw, he’ll pick GT’s defense apart, and with even a small hole open to them, whoever plays RB for us, even our smallest will be able to move the chains on the Tech defense.
A lot of If’n, but I think this is Georgia’s year to quieten the Tech blog faithful for a while.
It’s a fun week of bragging rights leading up to the game, and if UGA plays like it did against Auburn, it will be a fun year of bragging rights after the game!
From what I’ve read on these blogs, these Dawgs are hungry for a win and are not looking beyond Tech. I’m thinking UGA 30 – Tech 13.
Hope UGA (and GT) has an injury-free game; we’ll need all of our players at their healtiest and best next week in the SEC CG. .. Go Dawgs!

So BCS stinks – I guess after we route Tech we STILL will not have played anybody worth mentioning, huh? UGA STARTED the season playing two ranked teams and if the offense had not imploded we would have beat SC. We were young and starting the season against two good teams….if you want to compare “body of work” – all you have to say is Tech plays in the ACC – that pretty much says it all !

Why is it that the Tech fans posting on here all seem to be illiterate? Usually, we can hold out hope for a little grammatically correct smug commentary, but not today. GTcline and BCSstinks both needed to pay more attention in high school English class.
Tech fans are having a lot of fun talking about Georgia’s schedule and implying that the Dawgs somehow are not deserving of their lofty defensive ranking. Enjoy your little party of blind conjecture while you can, Jacket fans. The truth (and Jarvis Jones) will smack you in the face on Saturday morning at noon.
That being said, it is valid that being ranked #2 in the nation in rush defense (not #4, as one poster said earlier; that’s our ranking in total defense) means little when facing the triple option. Tech will get some yards Saturday. As one example, little old Georgia Southern rang up over 300 yards rushing using the same offensive scheme last week against Bama, the #1 rushing defense in the nation. It’s all going to depend upon how effective the Dawgs are in limiting big plays–which means playing disciplined football. That and turnovers will determine how Georgia’s defense does against the Jacket O.
On the other side of the ball, if Georgia has any semblance of a running game and Murray is on target, the game might get ugly.
Playing the law of averages, I like the Dawgs in this one by ~10 or so. Say, 31-21.

Tech Gives 31 to Duke.Dawgs a whole lot better than Duke on O. If Dawgs Defense plays like the last 3 weeks, this one is over early……..But…..Tech always plays us like they are a top 10 team… It’ll be interesting, but Dawgs too big and fast and physical for Tech to hang around long, and they won’t score much against our D, cause Dawgs real good at stopping the run….and that’s what Tech does. Would love to see a blow out and get the ” We’re an academic school and football is not that important to us” comments going early.

Anytime you play a gimmick offense, that you very rarely see, you are bound to give up some yards. Tech. is bound to rank up there in the rushing category because that is what they do 85% of the time. Their passing game depends on teams gearing up to stop the runs, and a QB that throws up wounded ducks for passes. How many teams are still using the TO outside of the service academies anyway?
Now for the facts.
1. Techs. line averages 295 pounds. UGA’s DL averages 340 lbs. You do the math. Can anybody say chop blocks?
2. UGA has linebackers that are fast as the tech. RB’s. They also get into a opponents backfield, seal up the middle and are quick to get to the ball.
3. In a regular offense, you know, one what the big boys play in, the QB tech. has, would not even be a 2nd stringer.
4. Tech. seems to have forgotten, that you also have to play some defense so you can prevent mighty teams, like Duke, from putting up 31 points against you.
5. techs. offense scores on average, 27 points against the 7 FBS schools that have faced, and gives up 27 points. UGA averages 28 points in the 9 FBS schools that have faced, and gives up less than 14 points to their opponents. with our defense playing. Defense wins games.
6. Tech. plays in the ACC, and UGA plays in the SEC. Enough said there.
7. UGA has probably the all SEC QB and tech. has a person that fills that position.
8. UGA teams are generous to a fault, in that almost every holiday season, they give Tech. another early Christmas present, and a reason for tech. fans to brag, about how academically superior they think they are to everybody else, and therefore they are really a very good team. Funny, how we never see or hear about all of these engineering students putting on the pads and getting on the football team.
9. Tech. fans are obsessed with beating UGA every year, while UGA fans know it is a football game and a chance to smack their little sister around again. UGA is going to the SEC Championship game this year, and tech. is going where exactly?
I think you can get the picture. Tech. fans come onto these blogs high as all get out, the week before the ball game and brag about how good they are and it last until the game is over. Then they go into the justification mode (BS Excuses), and say, wait until next year once again. UGA fans get ready for more meaningful games and tech. fans go into the excuse, we are academically superior, we are the greatest, we own UGA fantasy world for another year. They really emphasize the moral victory excuse and brag about how they ran this many yards and anything else that might have helped them, think they are great. When is the last time that a moral victory got you into a better bowl game or counted on the record?

heeldawg, you are talking like this Georgia team has a played such stiff competition. The offenses UGA has played this season
BSU 30
NMS 40
USC 79
MS 87
UF 92
UA 93
UT 97
Vandy 100
Ole Miss 114
UK 117
CC AA and no rankings
GT 15
Now, you look at these offenses and how can you not have a Defense ranked high. Bring some stats to validate this defensive ranking and you will get no argument from here. Typical DAWG fans here that speak and have no facts. I never once said that GT would win the game but stated a fact that UGAG’s defensive ranking is a little inflated by the competition they have played. To be honest with each and every person on this blog, GT should never beat UGAG when you look at the rosters from both teams. With that being said, which team plays to there ability?

Each year at this time, I try to look at the year’s COFH match-up and logically determine, based on the year’s collective bodies of work which team is most likely to win. This year, I’ve tried to decide whether Tech can even make it competitive enought to bother to watch.
My conclusion, No. Anyone trying to predict a Tech win is not basing their conclusion on logic. Yes, UGA has on occasion played down to their level of competition when they have lacked motivation (e.g., Kentucky). However, when the opponent was one that inspired effort from the get-go, they have proven solid (e.g., Auburn). UGA will not be flat. They will not be looking ahead to the SECCG. They will take care of business against Tech.
Tech’s defense has been consistently porous all year. Teams that chose to focus on the run have been able to run with dominance. Those that wanted to pass have been able to pass. Tech’s inability to put Duke away in the second half last week is a microcosm of the season. Renfree and his cadre of receivers are an order of magnitude less talented than UGA’s Murray and his corps. Yet Renfree was allowed to pass 42 times without a single sack and very few “hurries.”
UGA’s defense is a tad undisciplined, but ultimately athletic and fast. Tech may be able to move the ball on occasion and may even fall into one or two big plays, but ultimately they won’t be able to sustain the ball control needed to neutralize the UGA offense by keeping them on the sidelines.
And that’s not even considering the debacle that is Tech’s “special” teams….
My conclusion, UGA by 17.
As a serious Tech fan, while I know it is unlikely to happen, I’m beginning to advocate that this end-of-year game go away. With the expansion of both conferences likely adding another in-conference game to each team’s regular season slate, it might be time to hang this one up. UGA could move an in-conference rival to the end of their schedule (maybe Florida?) and Tech could move the Clemson game to the end of the year (same considerations apply for USC and Clemson needing to clear a slot on their respective schedules).

For most Georgia fans this game is at best the 2nd or 3rd most important game of the year (behind Florida and Auburn). Depending on what part of the state you’re from the South Carolina or Tennessee games are also more important. However, don’t overlook the effect this game has on in-state recruiting. Georgia’s recent dominance in this rivalry has had alot to do with their recruiting dominance in Georgia high schools.

Margarine? Who eats margarine on any day especially Thanksgiving Day rolls? That just ain’t American. This country was founded on butter. When the Pilgrims landed, the first thing they did after off-loading the Mayflower was to sit down with the Indians, salt and BUTTER an ear of corn and called it Thanks For The Meal. We Were Growing Tired Of Pickled Herring. And Hot Buttered Rum. Nobody tried to pinch a calorie making Hot Margarined Rum. Besides, even the Pilgrims knew that if we were to die of clogged arteries, it’s best to please the taste buds in the process and that pleasure is derived from churned cream, not lab created imitations. Oh, and good luck to all this weekend.

gtne80, I have to ask what you have based this on? GT is sitting at 8-3 in a season that most predicted they would maybe win 6 games at best. Yes, teams have been able to run on them most of the time but they have also stepped up when they needed to and won a few games because of the defense. They shut a very high powered Clemson offense down that at the time was on fire. Clemson has more play makers and speed on the offensive side of the ball then UGAG does. Granted, when you look at this game and the athletes GT does not compare but stranger things have happened.
As far as Georgia’s Defense, how good are they really? For the first time this year they will play a team with a top 20 or even top 30 offense. UGAG played probably the easiest schedule in FBS this year, so do not jump the gun.

@BCSstinks – Yes, Tech beat Clemson but after last week’s shellacking by NCState, one has to wonder just how big of an accomplishment that really was. Maybe the Duke ugliness was a function of lack of motivation or overconfidence. That game required Tech to bring their own motivation. But go back another week and look coldly and unemotionally at how (un)competitive were we in our biggest game this year (i.e., Virginia Tech)? That game was at home on a Thursday night. We had everything to gain (potential ACCCG berth) in that game and we laid an egg.

What does Urban Meyer have to do with the Florida-FSU game? Nothing. And that is what the game is this year, almost means nothing, except to the two teams and the fans of the two teams. But the fact remains, these are two very disappointing teams playing out the year and looking to a brighter future.
Georgia wins easily over Tech. Georgia is just too fast and big for them. And more talented.
LSU’s defense shuts down Arkansas and wins by at least 10. It IS all about the D.
Bama crushes a bad Auburn team. All about the D at Bama and all about Auburn not having one.
And Clemson returns to their better multiple personality and whips South Carolina.
And whatever happened to the Vikings? Falcons win! Falcons win!

Pretty thoughtful analysis and I’d say I probably (although relectantly) agree. However, I’d much rather see a competitve game.
You have to wonder how all the talk and action on conference expansion will affect these cross-conference, end-of-season rivalry games. While I’d hate to see them go away, you have to wonder if Tech wouldn’t be better off without it.
It seems that this game is largely for the Atlanta and North Georgia fan base, just as Florida is more meaningful to South Georgia, Auburn for West and West Central Georgia, South Carolina for East Georgia, etc., etc.
In my 40 plus years of following it, the folks in South Georgia don’t follow the Tech rivalry that closely anway (Tech doesn’t seem to fare well recruiting there, largely because the South Georgia kids, players and students, don’t or can’t get into Tech……at least they didn’t when I was there).
Must be a bummer for the Tech program ending the season (most years) with a loss against a school where they have a real recruiting disadvantage.

The Tech-Dawgs game is for fun. I’m a Tech fan and I certainly want them to win however it’s not a matter of life and death. The economy is a mess; a war with families losing homes and jobs. The reality is that Georgia should win every year because they have all of those 4 and 5 star athletes, although the last few years they have greatly underachieved considering their talent level. Tech has mainly 2 and 3 star atheletes. To say we’re number one is kind of silly considering your talent pool. Tech continues to give up big numbers in the passing game and they have way too many turnovers against Georgia each year which kills our chances to win. We wish everyone a Happpy and safe Thanksgiving. God bless America!

If UGA's D is overrated, how about GT's O?
November 24th, 2011
8:53 am
GT’s “vaunted” offense has some Inflated numbers to say the least. Hell Miami held them to 7. Best games, against the almighty Kansas, they have given up 42 points or more in 9 games and are 2-9. Oh MTSU? 106th in total d and 2-8. Western Carolina you might ask? 1-10! Are you kidding? Not to mention the acc. GT’s opponent’s. Overall combined record is 55-65! Wow awful. Oh and UGA’s? A not so great but at least respectable 64-57. So before we talk about how overrated one team is, take a look in the mirror. GT fans like.to point at UGA’s “overrated” defenestration’s, but fail to see how the matchups in this game clearly cavorted UGA. UGA is 2nd against the run and GT is 2nd in rush offense. What do people say, offense wins championships? NO. Defense does. Tech’s O is 17th in points scored at 36.5 a game, UGA is not far behind at 23rd with 34.3 ppg. The real difference is on defenestration’s where UGA is 11th in ppg allowed at 17.8. Mighty GT? 56th at 25.3 ppg. Just some fun facts for everybody to think about. Happy thanksgiving!

@Switzerland, I’d much rather see a competitive game too, but I don’t see much chance of it.
The facts are the facts. When I look at 9 out of 10, I take a “prove it to me” attitude toward anyone saying that Tech will compete. The loss two years ago when Tech was on a high and UGA was headed the other direction showed something to me that I have a hard time reconciling.
Tech is left to hope that some freaky things will happen (UGA players come out flat or overconfident or looking ahead, freak turnovers, etc), but that just adds to the frustration.
If Tech could establish a defense that would produce a couple of 3 and outs in the first half and give the option some time to wear down the other side, the T-O offense would be a lot more effective. But, that said, I don’t have much on-the-field performance this year to see that Tech’s D will effectively slow down UGA’s offense. UGA will run on first and second downs and then Murray will drop back and have plenty of time to pick apart our secondary.
Winners never quit and quitters never win, but to never win and never quit is just stupid.

Tech lives to beat Georgia. Bottom line. They can deny and say they worry about ACC wins, but we know, they know, that this game is ALL they worry about. When Johnson wins, they have rings made. When they lose, We’ve got bigger fish to fry. He his so transparent. It is a big brother thing. Dawgs get all the press and live in the SEC which gets all the national talk, so thus Tech, being in Atlanta, screams ” look at me” all the time. Choke,
It would be such a shame if the “coach killer” brought down another coach. This time, though, the coach (Reid) has won consistently for many years and his teams have almost always played at a high level. It might also be the second time a $100 million contract was given away to the same player, with nothing to show for it after the contract was accepted.
Your obsession with Matt Ryan is pathetic, really. The verdict on his career as an NFL QB may not be written for years, but there is no question that he is giving his best to the Falcons and the fans of the team. Personally, I hope Vick does continue to turn his life around and I wish him success, except when his team plays the Falcons. As for you, I wish you would go away.

Matt "CHOKE" Ryan
November 24th, 2011
9:42 am
“My Commentary” Continued………………………
Most CHOKE supporters would look to his questionable success, if you call the regular season without playoff wins a success. However, if you look deeper into the circumstances that paved the way to those regular season wins, you will see that in 2008 the teams they played, only 3 of them were actual playoff teams. Beating the then horrible Green Bay Packers, Bears, Broncos, Chiefs, Rams, etc., doesn’t equate to beating real NFL talent.
I know you are saying things like: He was a rookie, with a rookie head coach, with a green GM. Well, that all sounds legit, until you travel up north to Baltimore where the Ravens had a rookie quarterback & rookie head coach.
The Ravens were also coming off of a miserable season before 2008. However, what the Ravens had that the Falcons could only dream about was at the GM. There is no doubt that Ozzie Newsome makes Thomas “Big Hair” Dimitroff look like, well, a rookie.
Well 4 years later, and 4 road playoff wins later, Ozzie showed what a real GM can do without wasting 72 million on a HOPE. I know what you are saying, the Ravens had a great defense, and anyone could win with that great defense. Well that same great defense prior to 2008 had a 5 win season.
To make matters worse, the New York Jets with a rookie quarterback, and rookie head coach, accomplished the same feat as the Ravens. Therefore, it doesn’t take an economist to reach the conclusion that 72 million was wasted in the wrong position, because CHOKE has been a bust from the beginning.
The warning signs were staring the Falcons in the face. A 5th year college quarterback, posting 22 picks in what should have been his best season. They were so desperate to replace an Atlanta legend, who every Sunday since being the starter filled the Georgia Dome to capacity. There were no empty seats anywhere.
When your franchise quarterback wins less impacting games versus the weak schedule, but lays eggs versus the only two playoff games on his resume, doesn’t resonate to Canton.

I have a question for the NERD fans out there. Why is it every year you talk your stuff like you will win when you have lost so much against UGA? That would be like a UGA fan going on a Florida blog and saying they “own” Florida or that UGA will win every year. You make fun of UGA’s schedule. Guess what? UGA does not control their SEC schedule. They control their out of conference schedule and picked Boise St. Who did Tech pick for their out of conference schedule? Kansas? Western Carolina? Middle TN State? PLEASE stop your jealousy of UGA. We can’t help it that we are better then you, have women, have a SAFE campus, and fill-up our stadium. You will always be second to UGA. Just like Texas A&M is to Texas, Cal is to USC, Auburn is to Bama, etc.

I wonder why as well. Schultz here is even trying to poke fun at the Wal-Mart comment in his blog here, while neglecting the offensive comments made by Johnson. You Tech people really should be ashamed, but you’re not, and it says alot about you. Of course, hypocrisy has always been the strong suit of Tech people. Rip Grantham because he yells and makes gestures on the sideline, but shower Johnson with unconditional love as he uses the MOST defenseless people in the world as the punchline in his joke to make himself feel better about the crappy school he finds himself coaching his HS offense at.

Wikipedia defines and “inferiority complex” as follows: A feeling that one is inferior to others in some meaningful way. It is often subconscious, and is thought to drive afflicted individuals to overcompensate. Unlike a normal feeling of inferiority, which can act as an incentive for achievement (or promote discouragement), an inferiority complex is an advanced state of discouragement, often embedding itself into one’s lifestyle, and sometimes resulting in a retreat from difficulties.

Proud-Dawg, I was just about to post the SOS stat but you beat me to it. BCS Stinks posts all of these stats about the offenses UGA has faced, but is neglecting to post any stats on how GT is overrated across the board. Any logical person picking this game would pick UGA based on what each team has done so far this season. Now rivalries seem to have a way of bucking those trends sometimes, but not most of the time. When you have two teams whose strengths match-up, defense prevails 9 out of 10 times. GT’s D is #1 in the ACC against the pass, because teams typically run the ball right down their throats. Everything you could know about these two teams points to UGA winning this game. Not going to be a blowout IMHO, but UGA will win. Too many people picking this game are doing so based on emotion. GT fans point to UGA vs UK last weekend, so what about Duke? Both teams were probably looking ahead. UGA wins this one by 10.

I know this, Dawg fans would never stand for our coach trying to demean defenseless people with special needs, nor would he demean the hard working middle class of any company. What these nerds don’t get, is without all the lowly Wal-Mart workers, there would be nobody to pay the cable bill, and all these brilliant Techies would be jobless begging for a Wal-Mart job themselves.

@5150…I’m not going to argue on a blog, but you do realize Wal-Mart sells not only UGA apparel, but Tech stuff as well? Here is something you may not know. Georgia Tech is sponsored by Russell Athletics. Who is Russell’s largest retailer? That’s right, Wal-Mart. Wal-Mart has piece of Russell Athletic, fact…There are trashy fans for any team, including UGA, Tech, Auburn, Bama, Florida, so to lump an entire fanbase into one category is simple-minded at best. Take this into account. My best friends dad, a graduate of Cal, lost his job 2 years ago. He could not find work anywhere, but in order to take care of his family he took the only job available at Wal-Mart. He swallowed his pride to better his family. In fact, several years ago the AJC published the SAT and HS GPA scores and UGa was better…….and of course it is reflected by the graduation rates. Also, lots of chatter about the offense rankings of UGa opponents. Is it possible the low rankings are due to the tough SEC defenses these teams faced?

Netural…………………You mean this?…………..Now the Atlanta Journal-Constitution has gone ahead and quantified that by comparing average SAT scores and grade-point averagesGPAs of athletes with the rest of the college’s student body. Not surprisingly, football and men’s basketball players came out on the bottom, and some averaged hundreds of points lower on SATs than their classmates.
The Journal-Constitution studied 54 public universities, “including the members of the six major Bowl Championship Series conferences and other schools whose teams finished the 2007-08 season ranked among the football or men’s basketball top 25.”
We all suspect that big-time student athletes sometimes aren’t the best and the brightest academically.
Some highlights:
Football players average 220 points lower on the SAT than their classmates. Men’s basketball was 227 points lower.
University of Florida won the prize for biggest gap between football players and the student body, with players scoring 346 points lower than their peers.
Georgia Tech had the nation’s best average SAT score for football players, 1028 of a possible 1600, and best average high school GPA, 3.39 of a possible 4.0. But because its student body is apparently very smart, Tech’s football players still scored 315 SAT points lower than their classmates.
UCLA, which has won more NCAA championships in all sports than any other school, had the biggest gap between the average SAT scores of athletes in all sports and its overall student body, at 247 points.
Some “universal truths,” according to the Journal-Constitution:
All 53 schools for which football SAT scores were available had at least an 88-point gap between team members’ average score and the average for the student body.
Schools with the highest admissions standards, such as Georgia Tech, the University of Virginia, the University of California-Berkeley, UCLA, and the University of North Carolina, had the biggest gaps between the SAT averages for athletes and the overall student body.
Football players performed 115 points worse on the SAT than male athletes in other sports.
The differences between athletes’ and non-athletes’ SAT scores were less than half as big for women (73 points) as for men (170).
Many schools routinely used a special admissions process to admit athletes who did not meet the normal entrance requirements. More than half of scholarship athletes at the University of Georgia, the University of Wisconsin, Clemson University, UCLA, Rutgers University, Texas A&M University and Louisiana State University were special admits. . . At Georgia, for instance, 73.5 percent of athletes were special admits compared with 6.6 percent of the student body as a whole. At a glance, here are the top 10 highest and lowest schools based on the average SAT scores of football players (out of a maximum 1600 score):

“My Commentary” Continued………………………
When it comes to the NFL South, there is a tradition of playing good tough football, well except for the recent version of the Falcants. Ever since the realignment of the NFL Divisions in 2001, it had been an ongoing tradition that when a team in the division finished in last place, they would win the division the following season.
Well that traditional came to a roaring halt when the Falcons spent their 3rd overall pick, and 72 million on a 5 year college player who failed to win the embarrassingly overrated A.C.C. In 2007 the Falcons finished in last place, then in 2008 they failed for the 1st time to follow up a cellar season with a division title. Drew Brees did it. Mike Vick did it. Tampa & Carolina did it, but the self proclaimed second coming of Peyton Manning failed to keep the tradition going. However, Drew Brees rekindled the tradition by leading the Saints to the division title.
This was really unacceptable because the Falcons spent so much money on free agency, in particular Michael Turner & Tony Gonzalez. In fact, at age 26 Mike Vick had already been to 3 pro bowls, and had playoff wins versus Green Bay (Brett Favre) & The Greatest Show on Turf.
CHOKE is now in his 4th season, and they are currently the 7th seed for the playoffs, which means they will not make it, and yet another failed season of winning a playoff game, and more than likely falling even further behind Sanchez & Flacco in post season success.
What will be even more interesting is to see what owner Art Blank does with the 2013 draft, which will be CHOKEs contract year. Will Blank extend him? I doubt it. The question is – will the Falcons take the best quarterback via free agency or will they draft another franchise quarterback.
If they choose the latter, then they should select a quarterback with NFL arm strength with the ability to read defenses.
More to follow…………………………

GT Cline, while UGA schedule wasn’t as strong as it has been in recent years, we played who was on it and did what needed to be done to be a top 5 defense. But lets take a look at that schedule of GT, CU is 9-2 a nice win, but also shows how weak CU’s schedule has been, NC and NCST are 6-5, now here’s were it gets interesting, Western Carolina, 1-9, MTSU 2-8, Kansas 2-9 Maryland 2-9, Duke 3-8. So exactly how has Tech’s schedule been so strong? As for as GT playing the games they played against Clemson and VT, you lost the VT game, CU has been exposed as smoke and mirrors and much like Tech, will get pounded by the instate SEC rival this weekend.
You do realize that about 70% of Ga high schools were running your offense 10 years ago but most have gotten away from it because defenses learned to stop it don’t you? Expect to get deep into your depth chart of RBs this weekend because they not going to want much of whats coming their way Saturday. UGA by 20

Tech will play legitimate student-athletes who will go on to successful careers in industrial management and engineering.
Georgia will play mostly bozos who would not have met the academic requirements to enter any college or university. The few who actually graduate will have worthless degrees and skills for which there is no demand. Most will be pathetic losers who are a burden on society. Fortunately the CEOs of Walmart and Waffle House are Tech alumni who will give some of them jobs, but even a graveyard shift fry cook has to have some skills and the ability to stay sober.
Yes, Tech fans would love to defeat Georgia more often, but not at the win-at-all-costs price that Georgia pays.

Sandy, you say Tech isn’t playing to win? How long ago was the last time Tech was investigated by the NCAA, why were they stripped of the ACC championship, was it because they had student athletes who were going on to adminstrative and management positions? A little reminder for you, they were investigated for taking improper benifits, the title was stripped because TECH, not the student athletes, didn’t cooperate with the investigation. Tech has the same type kid as a student athlete that every other BSC school has, they all recruit the same kids, just not many of them want to attend Tech. Here is why, OL are taught to cut block, which is on the verge of being illegal in the NFL, the goal of most D1 college football players, and is already frowned on my most of the teams. The OL is not taught even the basic fundamentals of pass blocking, so tell me, why would a top high school lineman want to attend Tech? The qb, really, Nesbit was a good college qb, he is trying to hang on as a S for the practice squad on one of the NFL teams. WR, why would any wr find Tech’s offense appealing, and then to RB, they get pratically zero experience as a receiver, or in pass blocking, both very important skills for a pro RB. The best you had, and he was very good, barely got drafted because of your offense. The reason Tech doesn’t have the athletes other schools have is because Tech’s offense is not a good for development of NFL skills, not because Tech wouldn’t like to have better players. And give me a break about Tech athletes being smarter, your grad rate is one of the lowest in BCS, and lets not forget the poster child for Tech’s superior scholastic athletes, good ole Reggie, remember he was accepted to Tech, anyone you bring up at UGA will be no worse than on par with Reggie.

Amd UGA has a higher graduation rate than Tech for its football players, so apparently UGA is doing a better job educating inferior students. Why do you have a problem with how many special admits UGA has, you said Tech also has them, as does every other D1 school except the military schools. But is that all you have to cry about, UGA has more special admits than us and it isn’t fair? Whats not fair is Tech is playing with an offense that was effective in 1980, 80% of the high school coaches in Ga would shut it down and is why you seldom see it anymore. Whine about CPJ and his offense not being able to recruit, not UGA because we run an offense that is NFL friendly.

I’ve never understood how anyone could take any pride in the UGA football team. Look at their history for the past forty years: how can anyone ignore Jan Kemp and the remedial studies scam, the Jim Harrick sleaze, the DUIs in the athletic office (not just Damon Evans), the DUIs and other arrests of players, the #1 party school label (for the most drunk students), the suspensions and outright dismissals, the Fulmer Cup, and on and on?
As disgraceful and sickening as it is, I don’t see many alumni and fans demanding an end to this sleazy activity. It sets UGA apart as the kind of school that decent people despise and it’s become an embarrassment to the whole state of Georgia.
Will it ever end? Not while Mark Richt is at UGA. Richt is the biggest hypocrite in the United States. And even with the cheating and lawlessness that he ignores, he still doesn’t win the SEC.
So you’re paying him $3.5 million a year to be champions, but he can’t even win the SEC East. So why do you keep paying him millions of dollars year after year?
Just wondering.

This needs to be reposted frequently to remind dawgtards what an embarrassment they are.
Georgia Tech had the nation’s best average SAT score for football players, 1028 of a possible 1600, and best average high school GPA, 3.39 of a possible 4.0. But because its student body is apparently very smart, Tech’s football players still scored 315 SAT points lower than their classmates.
Many schools routinely used a special admissions process to admit athletes who did not meet the normal entrance requirements. More than half of scholarship athletes at the University of Georgia, the University of Wisconsin, Clemson University, UCLA, Rutgers University, Texas A&M University and Louisiana State University were special admits. . . At Georgia, for instance, 74 percent of athletes were special admits compared with 7 percent of the student body as a whole.

The fact that you guys have enough time to spend almost all day on here going back in forth is pathetic. If you didn’t notice today was Thanksgiving and clearly you guys have nothing better to do than insult each other on everything but football. I wonder how much you would say if you actually were face to face…absolutely nothing. It’s amazing how brave you get over a blog. I predict most of you guys are not even alumni of UGA or GT. Get a life, grow up, and just act like normal human beings. Goodnight.

btw, bishop, 8 days from now LSU is going to blister your beloved DAWGS. Start the season in the dome, and end the season in the dome with losses. Perfect bookends. Once again, no chance for a national championship. What a horrible situation where the rest of the football world just can’t grasp how important the bullDAWG nation happens to be. To be taken seriously as a DAWG poster, you must invoke the name of Herschel.

Thank you Jeff!!! It seems that every time you make one of your moronic predictions regarding GT the opposite occurs, so once again — thank you for picking the illiterate hicks from Athens!!!
Aside from that, I believe this will be a typical close (3 point) GT v UGAG game. But the pups defense is a total sham and has done NOTHING against any quality opponent this season. My high school team could have done better against them than any of the pathetic SEC-Least losers did! Face it, beating Sister Mary’s School for Wayward Girls (AKA: Vandy, KY, MISS, MISS ST, TENN, FLA) doesn’t impress ANYONE with more than 2 working brain cells (which by default eliminates 99% of the UGA fan base). Reality time for the Trembling Chihuahuas. Your going to get smoked Saturday, and then beat even worse the next Saturday. I can’t wait to hear the usual excuses from the inbreeders (both fans and mascot) Saturday night.

“High School Offense”?
Tech’s “high school offense” hung 512 yards on Georgia last year.
Our defense may give up too many points to win this game, but our offense is usually not the problem.
The scenario that worries me is this: Georgia scores quickly – a good touchdown drive and a Tech turnover or special teams breakdown gives the Dogs a 14-0 lead in the first quarter. Then Georgia simply loads the box and forces Tech to throw.
If it goes down like this, Georgia cruises to an easy victory.

I always worry about the Tech game, as Tech does sometimes win, even when they shouldn’t, and because the triple option is an unusual offense (it’s also an offense I enjoy watching, even though I understand why it’s seldom employed by major college teams).
I also think Tech is a fairly decent school. It’s not as great as everybody from Tech thinks it is, but it’s decent enough.
Of course, Tech fans are all worthless bums. The Tech stadium is smaller than a good high school stadium. The piece of junk Tech thinks a relic is a vehicle which runs on vitriol. The Tech team wears ugly uniforms. The Tech football team plays in a weak conference, and can’t even manage the playoffs there (and even Clemson can). Tech is a Joke!
Worst of all, Tech fans are idiot enough to brag, and posture, and insult as second rate a football program which has what record against them? What are those numbers for the last ten years? Or, just pick any time frame – what’s the record? Or, is Tech counting Moral Victories again?
If Tech fans weren’t so delusional, they’d recognize reality. Even if Tech does win on occasion, most of the time Tech Loses To The University of Georgia. Georgia owns the NATS. Reality.
I’d say I’m sorry for Tech, but I’m not. I hope we run up the score on Saturday, and I hope all 63 of the Tech fans who show up for the game leave by the end of the third quarter, leaving the ghetto stadium filled entire with the colors – Red and Black – of the team that owns the state.
I’d like to say I like the NATS, but it would be inaccurate.
Go, Georgia Bulldogs!

Is there anywhere a moron that actually thinks Tech’s running game is as potent as Auburn’s? What did they gain against the GA D? What happens when Tech is reduced to trying to throw the ball? It’s actually hilarious. If Coach Johnson is so deluded he thinks Vandy and Auburn wouldn’t be playing for the ACC championship, he’s a nutcase.

Why do Tech fans insist on turning a chat about football into an all out assault on anyone who receives an education from UGA? I’m willing to bet that it is actually harder these days to get into UGA because so many more people apply. So should UGA fans say that UGA is more prestigious and exclusive because UGA denies more prospective students every year? That makes about as much sense as those ridiculous jokes about UGA grads being pizza delivery men and Walmart greeters. Tech is a math and science type place, which is awesome. We really do need a place like that in the South to compete with the northern elite institutions. Whereas UGA offers a different kind of education. I guess I just have a lot of trouble believing that a Tech grad would snub their nose at their child if they received an education from the Henry Grady journalism school or the Terry College of business. And for the record, I know at least five Tech grads that are down at Woodruff Park “Occupying”. That outstanding degree is really coming in handy isn’t it? So can we please stop with all the elitist grandstanding about how much “smarter” you are, because it really does make you seem foolish.

Good to see JS and others here at the fine AJC sports section mention the Paul Johnson “Wal-Mart” comment. Funny thing is, I see no mention of the subsequent comment about “retard” and no admonishment from the faces here at the AJC sports section. I mean after one Todd Grantham decided to match wits with the newest bush leaguer of the SEC, everyone here made sure we knew that it was wrong and that Grantham should be reprimanded. But let Mr. “Genius in his own Mind” say something totally offensive about fans of the other in-state school and not a peep about a reprimand. Way to continue to show no bias there AJC and especially the pencil-neck geek who writes this blog.
If the last two weeks have shown anything (condemning Grantham b/c his agent answered a question by you guys and putting words in his mouth; to causing a storm because Crowell decided to do #2 before stepping on the practice field) it shows that your claims of no bias against UGA are falling on deaf ears. Yep Yahoo was right when they claimed you to be asleep at the wheel when your faithful GT was getting hammered by the NCAA earlier this year.

Can we just quit this series areadly? UGA and GT are focused on very different things. I’ll spare the details about admit exceptions, etc. Bottom line is, the series isn’t competitive. 9 of 10? 30something of 40?…. When was the last time GT destroyed UGA in a game like a huge lopsided victory? It doesn’t happen. The one in ten times Tech wins, it’s by an inch/fieldgoal or something. The series isn’t competitive or fair to GT. GT…just get out of it! IT ruins the season with a historically certain loss at the end. It ruins recruiting because instate guys see our guys lose year after year. We don’t get a big paycheck like most tiny schools would for playing a football factory. There is nothing in this for GT but pain. GET OUT AND SAVE THE SPOT ON THE SCHEDULE FOR A TEAM THAT WE CAN COMPETE WITH! Someone tell me why GT would want to play in a series that is so lopsided and ends the season on a bad note year after year? What is in it for GT? UGA, I get why they want to play it, I want to know why GT would rather play this game than against some other school more comparably talented?
