Welcome to Georgia-Georgia Tech week. Is it just me or does the point spread seem a little thin?
Most sports books have installed Georgia as a 5½-point favorite. Granted, the game will be played at Tech — home field is worth three points in wagering circles — and this is a rivalry game, which generally screams, “Beware!”
There’s also the uncertain status of Georgia running backs (either because of injury or immaturity).
But the Bulldogs (9-2) have won nine straight and secured a spot in the SEC championship game. The Jackets (8-3 after a 6-0 start) have had a better season than expected, but they just allowed 31 points to Duke in a 38-31 win (the Blue Devils entered the game ranked 99th nationally in scoring offense at 21.8 points per game).
Georgia is ranked 13th in the BCS and the Associated Press. Tech is 23rd and 25th, respectively. I would’ve thought given the way perceptions tilt, the line would open at 10 points or higher.
I’ll have more looking ahead to the game in the next few days, but I figured this would be a good place to start the banter.

The best offense the Dawgs have beaten was Vandy, who is ranked 60th in FBS. Tech put up almost 500 yards of rushing against them last year, and the Dawgs haven’t improved all that much. I think 3 is about right

I thought it would be closer considering UGA only played one team ranked less than 80th in the country in total offensive yards and that was Boise St. Also UGA didn”t play that hot against Kentucky which is statisticly one of the worst teams in the country. Don’t bet so I’m not too concerned about point spreads.
Big John and Kwaeme will stop the dive, Jarvis Jones and Cornelious Washington will stop the pitch, and Ogletree, Rambo and the rest will clean up the flotsam.
By the third quarter the GnaTs will be forced to pass and then look out. Whoa Nelly!

The only chance we have in this game is to limit turnovers, and stop the big pass. We seem to have done neither very well this year. If we hold on to the ball, we can win. Tall order. I would say the line should be about 10.

This is a bigger game to the Jackets this year. This is their final game of the season against THEIR biggest rival. Their whole season has built up to this game. They want a victory over us the way we always want one over the Gators. This game for us on the other hand comes the week before OUR biggest test of the season. Look at the post game comments from the Dawgs. We are excited about playing in the Dome, but we know we have “another game” to play first. Different perspective

Tech doesn’t have a 3 pt home field advantage in this game—1/4 of the stadium will be red. Probabilities are: UGA wins by two scores 25%, UGA wins a squeaker 50% (<4 pts), Tech wins a squeaker 25% so a 5.5 line is about right. Should be a good game—just hope the zebras don't end up being overly involved in the outcome.

About right or maybe a little too much if the assumption is that the Dawgs will have the not-so-potent duo of Harton & Malcome running between the tackles. Not enough of a spread if Crowell is in the game.

If Georgia’s D shows up healthy and plays assignment football, I see the dogs covering the spread and a little bit. Bugs can’t pass and everyone knows it. I am not sure they have more than 6 different passing patterns to differentiate in the first place. Remember the FL game? Being one dimensional is going to hurt the bugs on Sat. 8 in the box, UGA will rock.

I’d say the spread is about right. It will actually depend on which of both teams shows up. On paper, UGA will most likely pound us. However, if we can get our act together defensively, we may have a chance. Lot of “ifs” but that’s why you play the game.
In all honesty, I think the UGA defense has improved more than ours and that will probably be the difference in the game.

Very surprised. Based on the Sagarin ratings, it figured at 7 1/2 or 8. I think it’s undervalued at 10. Wish I were in Vegas. I’d take the Dawgs and lay 6 or 7 in a heartbeat. If we play the same D we played against Duke, Murray will carve us up with short passes and we’re bound to blow a tackle or two and turn a 10 yarder into a 60 yarder. UGA 38 Tech 14 (I’d say Tech 17, but Paul will pass up a short FG attempt somewhere and try to go for the first down and fail).

Jeff you sure have been drinking the UGA koolaide of late…I am wondering why? Sure they have won 9 straight which is commendable but I dont think anyone would say that they have been dominant or that they have beaten anyone of note. Wasnt Florida (their “signature” win) trailing FURMAN in the 2nd qtr this past weekend? Kentucky had 4 wins, 3 of which were against directional type schools, UGA scored 19 points. They have beaten 2 teams (not counting Coastal Carolina) with winning records.
Granted Tech hasnt beaten anyone of note, other than Clemson, but given the fact that they are 8-3 and playing at home, I would say that the spread sounds about right.

UGA’s defense if great and the offense has more play makers than Techs. UGA players will have to adjust, they aren’t use to playing in front of such a small crowd. Tech players will have to adjust to playing in front of more than 35,000.

IF, and I say IF, we bring the Clemson game, we win. If not, it will be another mistake filled 31-24 loss or something. UGA is not all that. Very average, really. We, on the other hand, are very inconsistant. And we do indeed seem to play down to our opponents. On paper, sadly, UGA wins by 8-10. We have to make more big plays than they do. We never seem to be able to. Tech has, for the last 10 years or so, snatched defeat from the jaws of victory several times against the dogs. They had us dead at halftime, and then began frying fish at halftime. We can hope for that again. Possible, but not likely.

Some of the factors I’m looking at follow: last year Tech was #1 in running and we were #56 against the run; going into this year’s game Tech is #2 in running, and we are #2 against the run–Adv. UGA. Conversely, Tech got 411 yds on the ground last year–way over their average. That tells me that either CTG doesn’t know how to work against the option with a 3-4, Tech plays over their heads on big rivalries, Adv–Tech. Should be interesting. The other side of the ball is tough, but I think KY was an off week. Losing the number one TB after losing the number two TB, after losing Samuel probably got in the Dawgs heads a bit. Worst of all, I think it got in Bobo’s head. I suspect Murray was trying to win it without the TB and was probably trying too hard. Over the last few seasons, you can throw the stats out on this game because of the rivalry aspect. The key match ups are noted above. I think that if UGA has a weakness, it might be at TB. If Tech can shut down the O, the stand a great chance of pulling off the upset they so desperately want.

Special teams is going to be REALLY vital in this game. Also, if Tech gets the first score and then it’s blow-for-blow the whole game…that favors the Jackets due to the clock controlling nature of the option-based-spread game. Turnovers will kill either team in this one.
In the past Tech has looked like the better team in this game, but the first break that doesn’t go their way seems to get them all crestfallen and dejected. My diagnosis is they too easily let the Dawgs get into their heads an under their skin. If Tech can play more disciplined than the Aggers early on we can get that monkey off our back and not be as intimidated.

Georgia should be favored…..they are the SEC East champs. Tech struggled with Duke…didn’t they?
And….Clemson just completely perplexes me. Such outstanding talent on that team and every year they lay 2, 3, or 4 bad tasting eggs during a season. How can a team with that much offensive talent bomb so badly against NC State?…..and they have a lot of talent on defense as well. Just perplexing…..almost every single year….no matter the head coach or the teams involved.
Laid that egg…..against NC State????…….how can that be????? Look at there roster. Loaded top to bottom. They should be undefeated in the ACC and now ranked #2……….?????

I’m actually quite happy Tech is coming into this game as an under[jacket]. They already have the tradition of hatred, the napoleon-complex, the 2-game losing streak, and the lopsided series record working to put the fire in their preparation for this game. Now they have the season-making nature of it and also the “nobody believes you can win this one” mentality to add to it all. I hope the spread moves up to fourteen by week’s end and all the sportswriters are piling on GT. There’s a very large bulletin board in our new football facilities. CPJ uses it quite well.

Dawgs aren’t good….they are average.
Tech is extremely young…won more this year than they should have, likely a trend to continue.
Dawgs need discipline to play Tech and win.
Tech needs to play the option to perfection, stuff the run, and get to the Georgia QB
Not sure which is harder

As as Tech fan, I am surprised the line isnt larger. Although, UGAg may be looking ahead to the SEC CHampionship, which could play in Tech’s favor.
But since Tech can’t throw, can’t catch, can’t kick and sure as hell can’t play defense….going to be a long day for my Jackets.

“Florida struggled with Furman but had no problem with Kentucky.”
GtBob, Obviously Florida didn’t show up for the Furman game. Why, everybody knows that if they had come to play, they would have won by at least 70. After all, they have that “SEC speed”, which no other player in any other conference has.
And on the top of that, the refs, of couse, tried to give the game away. Not to mention that Florida was mentally unprepared for the game – all the could think about was running through that SEC gauntlet. How could they possibly be into this game when they have to play the likes of Ole Miss, Vandy, and Kentucky week after trying week?
Just check out the NFL – it is stocked with probably 98% SEC players. Certainly all the best ones are. Aaron Rodgers? SEC, of couse.
Adrian Petersen? SEC. Tom Brady? SEC.
At least I think they are all from the SEC. If they are not, it is only because the owners conspired to get players from different(inferior) areas of the country to expand the TV markets. That is the only possible reason to draft a player from a non-SEC conference.

I know UGA struggled last weekend, but it seems like they tend to do that against lesser competition. They normally seem to play better against better teams. I know Tech is better than KY, & I do think they’re a dangerous team, but UGA normally seems to play good against Tech for the most part. It’s kind of hard to get up for KY…I guess, rather than someone like Tech.

Honestly, the line sounds about right. Our offense didn’t play so hot against UK, and that’s reflected here.
However, I think defense is where this game is decided, and UGA’s got a heck of a squad while Tech … doesn’t.
Don’t get me wrong, when Tech’s offense is working, it’s hard to stop. I just don’t think they’ll be able to get it started against this D. Unlike Alabama, who got handled a little bit by Southern’s triple option (they obviously adjusted), this team and coaching staff have faced it before and can see how to stop it (UVA and Miami).
That said, I still think it’s gonna be a good game. But the Dawgs take over after halftime and shut it down. Dawgs by 10!

You canNOT judge teams by comparing who they play. Every game is different and different teams get more or less motivated each week. By that standard, SC beat UGA 45-42, Auburn beat SC something like 16-10, UGA beat Auburn 45-7. Go figure. It’s different each week, no matter who you play and where. On paper, UGA throttles Ga. Tech and pounds them to dust. But you play on the field and this weekend will be different han last weekend. I’m nervous every game UGA plays because I don’t know which team will show up.

The line is probably accurate coming off the performance from UGA, but as much as I would love to see Tech pull one out, if the D-Line and LBs don’t come out playing like men its going to be a long day… UGA’s line will push Techs front 7 around and open huge gaps. It’s painful to watch my jacket’s D against the run when they face a big strong line. I love my Jackets, but I think UGA is going to shove us around on the line of scrimmage. That translates to their O running the ball straight at us (like in 2009) and their D forcing us to run to the outside and throw the ball. We need more horses up front, especially on the D-Line. If we’re going to come away with a victory, I think it will take a near perfect game from Tech and a few brain farts from UGA. I’ll be there regardless. Go Jackets!!!

I am unusually confident about this game. Granted, the Kentucky game was not impressive, but that is likely a combination of a letdown after the Auburn win (just like Okla, Okie St, Oregon, etc.), the fact that we had a walk-on WR turned RB cough up the ball twice, and Aaron Murray looking as bad as he has all year. We just weren’t geeked up for this game despite it being for the SEC East. We went into the Kentucky game knowing we could play our worst game over and still win. Not proud of this, but it is what it is.
Add to that the fact that our defense is lights out against the run. We aren’t going to hold them to -19 yards, 50 yards, and 20 yards as we have against UF, AU, and Ken, but GT will not have nearly the success running the ball that they usually do. We have some vulnerability in the Pass D, but I’ll take my chances against GT’s lack of passing attack…I wouldn’t be surprised to see a couple picks for our boys.
The final ingredient is that our boys will be excited to beat Tech. We are in their head as UF’s is in ours. I think we will win by 21 points and yes I will come back to take my medicine if we don’t.

At 5.5 Vegas is really working to get money on the Tech side of the bet. I would have figured 7.5 to get the money there. Who is going to play for UGA? 5.5 seems a little light but if Crowell and Thomas can’t play or Crowell plays hurt then maybe 5.5 is about right. I still think Georgia’s defense can stop a GT team that is a run dominated team. They have a run to pass ratio of about 5:1. It seems that Georgia could defend against the run and at some point make Tech pass the ball. But Georgia couldn’t stop them last year, mostly because Justin Houston did not play disciplined football and tried to chase the ball which GT wants you to do. If you are chasing the ball, the TO works. Discipline, fast LBs and big Safeties are effective against the TO, sounds like Georgia. If UGA’s defense forgets the ball and plays disciplined assignment football, we can stop the TO. Georgia’s offense will be effective enough if we don’t have to live by the pass because of the RB situation. Still a lot of ifs, maybe some of the ifs will become clearer by weeks end.

Vegas was way off in setting the line for the Kentucky game because they assumed that Georgia would have Thomas and Crowell for the Kentucky game. Against Auburn these two had nearly 250 yard’s rushing , which to Vegas means a balanced offense. If both had played against Kentucky we would have won by 30 points. Vegas want make that mistake again. We are only favored by 5.5 points because Crowell may or may not play and if he does we don’t know how long and I think Thomas is 50-50 at best, it all depend’s on if Richt think’s Thomas has paid enough penance.
Vegas also know’s that if CMR and Bobo get a lead they will sit on it and run out the clock which is Johnson’s strategy , keep the score close and run out the clock by keeping the ball on the ground. If Tech scores late and pulls ahead, Georgia could be in trouble unless Bobo will embrace his strengths in the receiving group of player’s. Georgia need’s to throw a lot more to Conley and Bennett. If the ball in catchable, they don’t miss anything. Georgia doesn’t need to freeze the ball , Johnson staying on the ground will be enough for both teams.
If Crowell and Thomas play’s that changes everything and you are balanced again and thus is Vegas’s problem in setting a point spread.

ARdawg, I think the key is turnovers. That is how we lost to SC. Multiple dumb turnovers. That really helped keep several opponents in the game, including KY. We really should have beaten a number of teams much worse. Richt called being able to put them away after Ole Miss. I thought NMST and AU showed the O had made the next level, but KY was a step or two back. Murray was off and counting King and Ealey, we were down to our 6th TB on last year’s projected list. Maybe that got in Bobo’s head? The other biggy is when we try to run out the clock. That always seems to kill our momentum. We seem to do much better on shootouts. CTG does make adjustments, but he was embarassed by Tech’s option last year. I think that is one of the more interesting aspects of the game Saturday.

Georgia while winning did not do a very good job against the cats and missed the spread pretty bad. No running game at all against a horrible Kentucky. I expect a close game and fear an upset because of the running game issues. Our Defense is good, but they can get tired if they are on the field all night because the offense can’t move the ball and passes for three and outs. Georgia may also fail to prepare and be thinking ahead to the Dome. We saw Tech do that a few years ago. If I was a betting man, I would take Tech and the points. Crowell will be out and their is no telling if th elittle guy will be allowed to play. I am stunned by the arrogance of some of the dawgs on this blog. I guess the had a different view of last weeks game from their seat. From my seat in the stadium, we looked awful save some solid defense against the worst team in the SEC.

Therefore, GA Southern is better than LSU. NOT! LSU beat AL who beat GA Southern so GA Southern is not better than either.
So what do we have? A quagmire.
**The point being is every game is its own game. The high school mentality of “They lost to them, who we beat, so we’ll kill all of those who lost to them.” doesn’t wash. UGA offense sleep-walked through the KY game.

Vegas spreads have nothing to do with the actual score. They put those spreads out there to lure suckers to bet one way or the other. They know nobody will bet Tech straight up so they put the spread at 5.5 to get some suckers to bet for Tech, and if Crowell suddenly gets really healthy then the spread will increase even more to get more suckers to bet for Tech (since the other suckers will bet the Bulldogs big time.)
Don’t care what the spread is, we are going to lay some whuppin’ on the tech boys.
All you guys talking about how bad Kentucky is, answer me this… Is tech’s front seven as good as Kentucky’s? Are Tech’s DBs better than Kentucky’s? No, I don’t think so. Teams that can run between the tackles OWN tech’s defense. Anybody who couldn’t see that Bobo basically shut down the offense after we got the lead wasn’t watching the game.
The biggest question will be can Boo step up his game this week so he can be there in case IC can’t/won’t go? Carlton Thomas needs to be dropped just for being stupid. 3 strikes ought to mean you’re out. I’m pretty sure that Zander and some other guys will be getting work this week at tailback. Will be closer than it ought to be due to the RB situation, but we should pull this one out.

No surprise to me! We are both better teams that we were on the day of our losses. UGA is rolling on defense, and we know how to stop BOBO on offense. CPJ has a penchant for this kind of game, and he will have some tricks up his sleeve that we have been practicing all year. Look for a close finish, but I think we get up on the dogs big early. It will be decided in the 4th quarter late, and I like our chances becuase your big back quits about mid way through the 3rd quarter. First off, thanks to the many honorable Techsters who paid their respects to Larry Munson on the AJC blogs.
UGA should take this game very seriously; and, especially after the unimpressive win against KY, I’m sure they will. This year’s Dawgs have shown great character and determination, outrageous comments by certain bloggers to the contrary notwithstanding. I don’t bet with bookies but I see Georgia winning by a larger margin than 5.5. The main reason Georgia didn’t blow KY out was fumbles by the back-up RB’s. Murray failed to see and throw to open receivers a few times and KY’s run defense was generally stout. If Georgia doesn’t turn it over or regress on special teams, they should win by 7 or more. Disclaimer: I’m usually wrong about these things…

Geek, pretty interesting. I also think TB is one of the keys in this game. CMB has a lot of talent to play with, but he doesn’t always threaten opposing Ds with it. Boo is strong, and should have been in more on the attacks to the middle. I love Harton in space, as well as Smith and Boykin. He may have to get creative in using them, which probably isn’t likely. Your comment about getting ahead is interesting, too. UGA has given up most of their ground in the first two or three offensive pushes from the other teams. It has been very consistent lately, and then the D adjusts and locks down. I think Tech’s best hope is to gash us early, and then try to win the shootout, with turnovers and penalties. The refs Saturday were really after UGA–terrible calls. If the refs come in with an agenda that could help you. That is the danger in the late shots we had against Vandy. You get the same refs, and they may be looking to settle scores. UGA is very, very talented, but I think Tech has more than a small chance of pulling off an upset.

GTBob logic…Bama has an off game they aren’t excited about and give up 21 points to Ga Southern. Bama loses by three to LSU. LSU manhandles Oregon. Oregon loses to USC. USC loses to Arizona State. ASU loses to UCLA. UCLA loses to Houston. So somehow with his vast circular logic…UGA sucks, the SEC sucks, no one has a tough schedule, Houston would overpower all SEC defenses, the SEC should stop playing football. Every defense that gives up a touchdown is awful. Any offense that doesn’t score 50 sucks. Every kid that has a traffic violation is a criminal. Any kid who smokes marijuana is a disgrace to humanity and a bad kid.
Essentially, all of these statements are egregious and embellished beyond belief but this seem to be the only currency GTBob knows how to express himself.
GTBob, your life will not improve one lick if GT wins outside of you being able to crow about something bad happening to UGA and you getting to let out all that pent up frustration you have been regurgitating and spewing over every single UGA blog the past nine-weeks we have won. The point spread was 30 against Kentucky; they won by 9. They probably figured the point spred against GT was 17, so they factored it down to 5.5. I, personally just hope for a win. And BTW: Dyer is better than anyone on your team and both Vandy and Auburn pass the ball, which means we could not stack 8 in the box like we will against he bumblebees. GT BOB UGA has 2nd best rush defense is country. They have a better rush defense than LSU. They have played a lot of the same teams that Alabama and LSU have played and held them to less rushing yards. Which is amazing considering they have had less blow outs then LSU and Bama (blowouts equal more passing GT Bob because I worry about your football knowledge), So if UGA’s defense sucks against the run apparently you think LSU sucks against the run?

The Dawgs showing up flat against the KY Wildcats does not bode well for GT. Legitimately talented teams very seldom show up ill prepared to play two weeks in a row. The Dawgs will be ready. Last week, CMR basically gave the team a day off practice because they loooked tired. This sent a message to the players that if the coach doesn’t think we need a full week of prep for KY, then we can beat them with out a full effort. KY came ready to play with a team that had half the talent and twice the desire. Georgia will be amped for this one. Another home game in ATL.

“I was showing how much worse the offenses in the SEC east are this year compared to last year. So either the SEC did not play defense last year or the offenses got alot worse. Which is it?”
Neither. Teams above or below any SEC are not the same. The SEC teams are not the same. You wish to cherry pick something from last year that might support your contention, add it to something this year that might support your contention, then mish-mash everything together and feel you’ve made a position. All you did Bob was make yourself look like a fool.
Last years numbers are only relevent to a discussion on last year. As far as this year, SEC offenses are playing against SEC defenses. When SEC defenses are the most dominant in the nation it would stand to reason that the offenses of these same SEC teams would look pale in comparison to teams who do not play against those same defenses. Simple logic really. You just insist on being ignorant to simple logic

UGA may have better players than Duke, but I’ll take David Cutcliffe calling plays over Mike Bobo any day of the week.
Seriously – I could call the plays for UGA this week. Keep running the ball between the tackles. GT hasn’t shown they can stop any team with a big OL.

I guess you’re easily fooled like most ga fans into thinking they are something great because they’ve beaten coastal carolina, new mex state, ole miss miss st tenn aub and fla. yeah those are some high caliber teams. not.. lsu should be favored over ga by 13. and i will still take them as i expect a 45-10 blowout

Sure sounds like it. Point spreads are where they are because that’s how the money is flowing. It isn’t set because you think it should be higher. The line is about in the middle of the average margin of victory for both teams the past 3 years. Why is that odd? Sounds about right to me.

UGA is going to win 63-6. Carlton Thomas is gonna sneak in the endzone – like he sneaks women in his hotel rooms. Isiah is going to blow by Tech defenders – like he blows smoke out the dorm room window.
We are the best team in the SEC and we have the best coach in the world. His hair is even the best – its getting ready for the halo thats going to float over it, He makes his wife say “go dawgs” through the dashboard of his ford F-150 through some type of magic device.
Once he beats Tech 63-6, on 9 TD’s in the first half, he is going to beat LSU by 20+ and play in the BCS NCG… then he will win that game… retire… and become a professional Lee Dungarees model.
The only way we loose this game is if the REF (people in stripes with non-sense letters on their backs) screw us… or tech laterals it to a leopard who runs over/ eats our defense. Tech plays in the ACC, so, automatically we are +10 better. SEC is like Whistler’s Mother… nobody knows why… but its the freaking best. The ACC is more similar to whistlers brother… nobody knows what that is… because it sucks.

Still not confident about Georgia over Tech in this one … injuries are taking a toll and remain an X factor.
As far as the talk about the rankings, fellow Dawg fans … you can only look at your “good losses” when you have some “good wins”. Georgia hasn’t notched a win that has moved the needle on college football’s richter scale this season. The SEC East teams’ struggles with FCS teams only underscores the fact the national perception is the Dawgs have skated by on a Boise State-type schedule. Georgia’s ranking is higher than it should be, but then again this season has underscored the wonderful parity college football is achieving. If Georgia is close against LSU, then I’ll finally believe this is actually a really good team. Right now, it’s just slight above average and Richt is the beneficiary of one horribly weak schedule in a down year for the SEC.

Yawn!! It is so nice that a blog about GT, or at least half of it, is out there for you Tech fans to comment on. Most of your blogs last about as long as it takes for one of you to mutter something like “I hate UGA” and jump up and down squealing like a girl. If it wasn’t for UGA blogs you guys wouldn’t have ANYTHING to try your childish rants on. Now if any of you girls want to talk football and the up coming game then here is my thought. I believe GT will give UGA fits with the triple option. If the Dogs can contain the outside and not let anyone get the corner then the GT game plan will rely on the pass and that is what the Dogs want with Tech. On offense if the tailback situation is the same as against Kentucky then the OL had better do a much better job. The game will be close. Another typical UGA/GT game. LSU fans? I don’t give a bowl movement about you till after Saturday.

I see them on my Hawks blog all the time saying distasteful things about the NBA all the time. 1. How do you consider Tech fans to be ‘trolls ‘ on a neutral blog about the point spread? Aren’t we allowed to comment or did you lose the point of the thread because it ran longer than two posts?

The spread certainly shouldn’t be any more than that – it’s probably about right. I know UGA fans are all feeling giddy right now, but in their minds they know that this team is the beneficiary of perhaps the weakest SEC schedule in memory. I know you can only play what’s on your schedule, but outside of one game against AllBarn, UGA has looked very underwhelming against a woeful SEC east. Let’s face it, if the dawgs had to have played even ONE of the big three from the west, they wouldn’t be playing in the SECCG. Swap SEC schedules with USCe and its the ‘cocks who would be in Atlanta. Dawgs will get smoked by LSU…mark it down.

You would think that most Tech fans would feel the same way about their annual game with UGA as I tend to feel about our game with Florida. No matter how confident I am headed to Jacksonville, until we actually win more often than we lose, it is hard for me to get too confident. 4 wins in the last 20 and only 1 of the last 10 should be enough to temper their enthusiasm but you couldn’t tell that by most of the Tech comments on here today.
You can only play the teams on your schedule and no style points are awarded. Like my golfing buddy always says, “It’s not how, it’s how many.” Unless something unforeseen happens, it should be 1 out of the last 11 by Saturday afternoon at 4pm and with 16 of 22 starters coming back in 2012, things are not going to get easier for Tech to change this series domination anytime soon.

Jeff, its really embarassing dealing with these troubled running backs (C.Thomas & I.Crowell) this year after dealing with C.King & W.Ealey last year. What’s up with running backs being problematic ? UGA needs Crowell & Thomas against Ga. Tech & in SEC Championship game.
I witnessed the UGA-Ky. game and my thoughts are that M.Bobo is too vanilla with the play-calling. Faced with six 3rd & 10’s and he calls a run up the middle each time ? A.Murray has to hit vertical passes to open up the running game & short passing game.

I was at the GT / Duke game. It was not as close as the score. If GT can avoid momentum altering personal fouls on third and long this week (which they have been unable to do the last two weeks), Tech can win this game. The final score is going to be 40 – 35 or something like that one way or another. For you Dawg fans who think that your defense will be able to stop Tech, just watch what Georgia Southern did to Alabama last weekend. Tech is going to score in bunches, but Georgia will too. It is going to come down to who makes the least amount of mistakes.

Nothing is certain in this game – UGA’s defense seems to be in good shape right now compared to the last few years headed into the GTech game, but with the different style of attack, this is a whole new affair for Grantham to prepare for. I think UGA is more likely to score big, but Tech could put up 20 or 30 if it is clicking offensively, and that would be enough to put the results in doubt.

*That’s funny you call Tech “a little trade school” UGA’s bread and butter is their business school….last time I checked GT has a higher ranked business school. Georgia just had a pretty unimpressive win over UK, did not play any of the tough SEC West teams, and needed a punter’s tackle to beat Vandy. GT has had weak opponets as well. Virginia has turned out to be better than we thought. Line seems about right to me considering it is in Atlanta. UGA is in a better place right now after putting together a decent season against average opponets.

The line is about right. It might go to 6.5 by the end of the week. UGA will be focused for sure so it could be ugly for GT. It could be ugly too because UGA defense eats running backs for lunch….what is Tech going to do? They better not let UGA score thats what. Good luck with that…..
LSU gonna score 48 on UGA? LOL. Thats the funniest thing I have heard this season!

Duke vs KY and this ain't bb
November 21st, 2011
4:07 pm
Kentucky for years has always recruited top quality kids from Georgia and that makes the UGA/KY game ALWAYS a tense one. Saturday was no different than what UGA fans expected.
Duke, does not recruit QUALITY GEORGIA HS football players like KY can. KY has 24 kids from Georgia and likely, they could play for most any other SEC team …………..certainly second teamers. Duk’s starters on the other hand would not start at ANY SEC school and in fact, not start at 60% of the ACC schools. Vandy would beat them 35-16 ………… 8 out of 9 times.
UGA has a D line and a scheme that is UNLIKE any UGA D in many years. UGA is BIG on the D line and they CAN RUN and they ARE DEEP. UGA has two LBs that will be top, top NFL draft choices within another year and one could win the Butkus Award and be AA this year ………..Jarvis Jones. His sack total in one year is 2 behind 4 year player David Pollack. He will get that on the first GT series.
LB Ogltree is a beast and so are Chris Robinson and M. Gillard at LBs, along with Garrison Smith, Hererra and Vasser. Our D backs have speed and ball presence of mind. Our safeties bring it.
I have viewed 5 or 6 or 7 UGA games this year where the opposing QBs (1st and second teamers) are KNOCKED OUT of the game, if only a play or three. AU’s QBs and KY’s TWO QBs were dazed beyond belief. Washington will be pummeled on his pitch plays.
UGA 34-GT 20 and GT will have tons of USELESS yards.

UGA is inconsistent. I hope the good team shows up against GT.
GT is tough. They run the ball and play hard. UGA is a finesse team, but will need to be sturdy enough to hang with the game.
GT coaches almost pulled an upset last year in Athens. When they let UGA score with just a minute left, we were happy to score without realizing that a TD would have beat us. We should have taken a knee and run the clock out.
This is the problem. UGA coaches. Specifically, Richt and Bobo. Grantham is smart, but Richt and Bobo are still incompetent regardless of the record.
So Snoop thinks that 5 points is rather liberal, particularly in Atlanta.

Tech has the ability to beat Ga. It has run for over 400 yards a game the last three seasons. The problem with Tech is that it self-destructs with too many turnovers against a good defense; three last year that all led to touchdowns. Tech has a big problem against good throwing teams, like Georgia. That’s our main achilles heel and the Dawgs know that. We are so bad I wish we didn’t have a bowl to go to. We are going to get killed. Duke nearly beat us. Richt is a genius, got to go take my medication. Why do they have to play in Atlanta, I can almost here the bones breaking from here. They burying Munson here are in Athens? Maybe I can get out of town for that funeral and miss this train wreak. There should be a law against playing a team that much better than us. Does playing Tech count for Georgia in the bowl wins? They are so good we should give them two wins just to go away. Richt promises to have sex on the 50 yard line with his wife if they beat us by 60 points, so his fans will get their money’s worth after such a dull game. I think he is coming to the game naked so he will be ready to celebrate. He is so smart, they are so damn good.

It’s amazing how little people understand about the betting lines. Even those in the media seem clueless. The line has absolutely nothing to do with who the odds makers thinks will win the game and by how much. They set the number to get equal action an both sides. It’s weak and lazy for those in the media to use the line as an indicator of who should win the game.
UGA does a pro rata split
November 21st, 2011
4:54 pm
Some of MAJOR BOWL MONEY IS WORTH FAR MORE, than pro rata of Gator Bowl money or the Music City or the Fil A or the INDEPENDENCE BOWL money …. GT BOB or the Papa Johns Bowl. Does your school get 10% of $5,000,000.00 TOTAL BOWL MONIES or 10% of $45,000,000.00?
My point is SEC teams are in THE BOG BOY BOWLS and a split of those pies is worth FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAR more …split or no split.
Besides GTBOB, I love the Ft. Worth Cattlemen’s Stockyard Porterhouse, with 4 prawns, cocktail sauce and a big old tater swimming in butter, chives and sour cream vs Shoneys in Charlotte, which is where Tech’s Belk BOWL HQ will be. There is a good Waffle House there at the Charlotte Airport on Little Rock Road. Keep that in mind too.

We are taking Bobby’s name off the stadium Saturday, no reason embarrassing him with this. For Saturday this is to be called the Reggie Ball International Stadium. When we found out Tech helmets are going to be flying higher the flights at Hatfield we thought it only right to claim international. We are parading Reggie around the track at half time, he was Georgia’s MVP a few years ago and deserves the honor. There will be a ring ceremony and such not. That is assuming Tech shows up, they are really getting scared and it is only Monday. This Georgia team is the cream of the SEC, they are back.

Neither UGA or GT are ‘powerhouses’ in NCAA football, haven’t been for quite some time. But it is typically the UGA fans who go around pounding their chests and patting themselves on the back after an impressive win over New Mexico State or Kentucky, while when GT wins, all the UGA fans assume that their opponent was over-rated. Didn’t hear much from UGA last year after the Central Florida game though….odd.
Who wins this weekend is anyone’s guess. The GT running game is superior to the UGA running game because UGA is still having problems with recruiting kids that have no discipline, and the UGA coaching staff is clueless on how to instill discipline. Actually, they probably do know how to instill it, but a win is more important to them then the welfare of a troubled student-athlete. UGA passing game is superior to Tech’s because Tech doesn’t recruit a QB that throws for 400 yards a game, that is not their offense. I seem to remember a few years ago when UGA fans were laughing at the Tech running game calling it a high school offense, then that high school offense ran all over you.
Tech will probably go to a mid-tier bowl, just like most of the schools in the ACC. UGA will also probably go to a mid-tier bowl because they have no chance of beating LSU, Alabama, or Arkansas. The ONLY team that UGA has played this season that is the caliber of those 3 teams is Boise State (and Boise State is no where close to those 3 schools), and they lost that game. Come to think of it, the UGA fans were busy talking smack about them before the game as well. Hmmm, seems to be a pattern here.
The ACC and the SEC East are mediocre to say the least this season. While the ACC typically is not known for its football, the SEC is. The SEC West is carrying the weight of the conference, but UGA fans think more of themselves and their football team because they are in the SEC. Reality hits them next weekend…..real hard.

A betting line has nothing to do with what the bookie thinks the outcome is going to be, it’s based on the betting action on each team, so the bookie can make the most money possible. The opening line is where he anticipates the action to be and he adjusts the line from there if there is more or less betting on one side than he anticipated.

On a weekend when 5 of the top 10 teams lost, you moved up how many slots? Tells me that someone else is not too impressed with your team. And yes, you BACKED INTO the championship game. You couldn’t beat South Carolina, so you depended on someone else to do that for you while you played weak teams. If this had happened to UGA, you red necks would be complaining about the same thing. Hell, I saw one idiot post that IF (yeah, right) you win the SEC championship and you do not play for the national championship, someone ought to get sued. Talk about a bunch of whining cry babies. Geez, win your conference games, earn a championship, beat good teams and maybe you can play for a national championship.

There is a LEVEL of Anonymity that helps the VITRIOL grow on the Blogs. We say things we wouldn’t say if we knew our customers, bosses, employees, friends, and family knew it was US. At times Dawgs and Jackets find the common ground and chat with respect. We actually find that we don’t Hate each other. We disagree and don’t like the others team, but on a personal level we are not all that bad. This week is one of those weeks for sure where we will not find much common ground or be respectful of one another. It is what it is. Maybe the Players should watch all the bloggers suit up and play a few games on Friday. We could talk all our crap and take some hits too. Remember this?!?! – There are certain things YOU ought to know, so that you can remember them.
1 – The UGA-Tech wins and losses is not 61-37-5. It is 61-39-5. The glaring discrepancy exists because UGA won’t count two of its losses to Tech: 1943 – 0-48, 1944 – 0-44.
2 – No UGA-Tech wins and losses should be counted after 1963, at which time Tech led the series by one game. In 1964 Tech left the S.E.C., forced out partly by UGA influence.

Nobody from the West helped Georgia do anything. What got them to the SEC championship was winning nine straight games. And yes they did beat a few Armpit States the same way Tech did when the gloating about being 6 and 0.I’ve looked but over most of your comments tonight and most of what you’ve done is poke fun at the Dawg nation. Not once have you said that your team will win on Saturday. You do believe dont you? It certainly will be the TECH team that beat up Clemson. Here is a food for thought… Last year we played with a back up QB turned the ball over 3 times (i think) and it came down to a Extra point… We put the ball on the ground too many times last year but this year we’ve shown some improvement in that area of the game. Plus our corners are way better and Al Groh has the confidence to put them 1 on 1 against your WRs. If our O-line can get to the 2nd level consistently… Watchout we got this game. Further, I think the dawgs got a good excuse of playing SEC championship…

No I said LARRY never married.
WHY? hell even Abe lincoln came out of the woods and log cabin with his male friend to marry Mary “the beard” Todd. What was Larry doing around all those male athletes for so many years and never caught a wife? It is a REAL question. Dawg fans like to sling mud. Answer what larry did with all that free time without a wife?

I understand that you dislike Georgia but your logic still make no sense. If Georgia does not do its job and win they dont win the East. And yes they beat some bad teams which is what good teams do.What they didnt do was loose to teams like Tech did( Virginia and Miami) which they should have beaten.Georgia truly loss to Boise but they manhandled South Carolina and scored 42 points on their defense.South Carolina’s special teams and Georgia turnovers put the Gamecocks winning points on the board.Again I understand the dislike but not the logic.Arkansas,LSU,and Alabama are fighting to play in the BCS championship game. One team loosing will get another team in.According to your logic the second team getting in will be tainted because another team loss.To me if you dont win you dont put yourself in a position to get in.If an AAC team’s loss got Tech in the championship game you would understand. But they’re not in that position so you bash Georgia.I honestly wish you had something about Tech football to cheer about.

I thought 5.5 was (and is) a little low BUT:
The wagering publuic, even more than the rabid fan, tends to remember the LAST thing it saw, i.e., Georgia only winning by 9 after being favored by 31. While it may seem I’m being harsh on UGA by not mentioning Tech’s only winning by 7 over Duke, the SEC does garner more attention nationally so the small margin over the Wildcats is a little more eyebrow raising. (I personally don’t hold last week against the Dogs…how many teams actually play well on Senior Day? Look it up, most teams don’t).
It looks kind of easy to take UGA to me. Maybe I say that as a somewhat jaded Tech fan but I recall the Clemson line only being 3.5 and knowing that something was amiss — and I’m hoping the same is true for this week.

It all depends on which Georgia team shows up, the one that played Auburn or the one that played Kentucky. I’d have to say the game is dead even. You never know what happens when these two meet. We know from the beginning that Crowell will find a way to sit on the bench. He always does. How he has as many yards as he does is a mystery. He hasn’t learned to hold onto the ball either. I sure hope CMR is looking for a running back! Sorry to be so negative!! I have a great sadness about the passing of Larry Munson (the greatest announcer there ever was!!!!!) GO DAWGS!!!! Well, I see that Arizona has hired Rich Rodriquez to try to inject some life into the offense. I know I’ll be in Savannah next season when the young pup takes over, but if there’s any Arizona QB that doesn’t run a spread offense, it’s time for him to join me. Maybe the Savannah School of Art and Design will start a football program.

No one cares about this game that’s why it’s at 12 in the afternoon when most people are out knocking out their Christmas shopping. Only reason most people will see it is because they’ll be out trying to buy a TV. That being said, Tech by a FG. This will be the first time since August UGA has played a team with a QB that can actually throw it more than 12 yards. Lucky season where the mighty in the East fell off this year and the Dawgs seemed to be the only ones that wanted it. So, see ya in a couple of weeks boys. OBTW, our condolences to the Dawg Nation and the family of Larry Munson. He was a class act and could paint a picture with his words!! RIP.

Larry Munson’s Birthday is September 28 (1922).
Larry Munson does not have a sense of smell.
JASON don’t you think SOME mention of his wife or children would be on this site?http://www.larrymunson.com/larrystory.asp
Larry Munson is an avid reader and has been known to read up to 3 novels per week.
Larry Munson served in WWII.
Larry Munson once used “fake broadcasting” to call University of Wyoming football games. Back in those days, cost of travel did not allow the broadcasters to travel with the team on away games, so Larry would call the games (on 3-5 minute delay) via telegraphs coming in from the game.
Larry Munson used to announce on WSM Radio in Nashville, TN. He also did the play-by-play for the Nashville Vols from the Sulphur Dell.
Larry Munson leads a weekly movie club where he and mostly college students go to the movies together. After the movie, Larry and the group review and critique the movie.

The line is correct IF we come in with our third string running back which I believe Vegas is assuming.
I love this “UGA didn’t play anybody”crap. NO, we played everybody on our schedule just like Boise, Alabama, etc. Our strenth of schedule is solid but not great. We played a tougher schedule (Sagarin) than three of the top ten teams. Our 2nd best rush defense and 4th best overall defense is what it is. We have the fourth best offense and third best defense in the SEC. At this point in the season, numbers don’t lie.
BTW..the third longest winning streak in the country! Keep it going against the no passing, can’t sell out your own stadium, 7th best defense in the ACC, nerds.

We have one decent RB. He’s a freshmen and fragile. We are crippled offensively when he’s not in the game. So yeh, I’d say that spread is about right. In fact, I’d say it’s 50/50 chance we win depending on how Crowwels ankle holds up or anything else goes wrong.
