Welcome to Georgia-Georgia Tech week. Is it just me or does the point spread seem a little thin?
Most sports books have installed Georgia as a 5½-point favorite. Granted, the game will be played at Tech — home field is worth three points in wagering circles — and this is a rivalry game, which generally screams, “Beware!”
There’s also the uncertain status of Georgia running backs (either because of injury or immaturity).
But the Bulldogs (9-2) have won nine straight and secured a spot in the SEC championship game. The Jackets (8-3 after a 6-0 start) have had a better season than expected, but they just allowed 31 points to Duke in a 38-31 win (the Blue Devils entered the game ranked 99th nationally in scoring offense at 21.8 points per game).
Georgia is ranked 13th in the BCS and the Associated Press. Tech is 23rd and 25th, respectively. I would’ve thought given the way perceptions tilt, the line would open at 10 points or higher.
I’ll have more looking ahead to the game in the next few days, but I figured this would be a good place to start the banter.

GTBob, the ACC is a joke and everyone knows it. This Saturday, we will see the highest ranked ACC team vs. the highest ranked SEC East team. You really think Clempson is going to stroll into Columbia and get a W? I think not.

You would think that most Tech fans would feel the same way about their annual game with UGA as I tend to feel about our game with Florida. No matter how confident I am headed to Jacksonville, until we actually win more often than we lose, it is hard for me to get too confident. 4 wins in the last 20 and only 1 of the last 10 should be enough to temper their enthusiasm but you couldn’t tell that by most of the Tech comments on here today.
You can only play the teams on your schedule and no style points are awarded. Like my golfing buddy always says, “It’s not how, it’s how many.” Unless something unforeseen happens, it should be 1 out of the last 11 by Saturday afternoon at 4pm and with 16 of 22 starters coming back in 2012, things are not going to get easier for Tech to change this series domination anytime soon.

I by the way think the point spread is about right…and for all the Bugs we only want to win by 1 or more. Damn the stats we just want the win.

Jeff, its really embarassing dealing with these troubled running backs (C.Thomas & I.Crowell) this year after dealing with C.King & W.Ealey last year. What’s up with running backs being problematic ? UGA needs Crowell & Thomas against Ga. Tech & in SEC Championship game.
I witnessed the UGA-Ky. game and my thoughts are that M.Bobo is too vanilla with the play-calling. Faced with six 3rd & 10’s and he calls a run up the middle each time ? A.Murray has to hit vertical passes to open up the running game & short passing game.

I was at the GT / Duke game. It was not as close as the score. If GT can avoid momentum altering personal fouls on third and long this week (which they have been unable to do the last two weeks), Tech can win this game. The final score is going to be 40 – 35 or something like that one way or another. For you Dawg fans who think that your defense will be able to stop Tech, just watch what Georgia Southern did to Alabama last weekend. Tech is going to score in bunches, but Georgia will too. It is going to come down to who makes the least amount of mistakes.

“But the Bulldogs (9-2) have won nine straight and secured a spot in the SEC championship game.”
That is not a shock, especially since many were predicting just that before the season started, especially with the weak SEC East in mind. The schedule has been so weak for the Dogs, it is hard to tell how good, or how bad, they really are.

Thank Goodness Richt will be back. Imagine I can win at least 2 more natonal championships before the ladies in Athens get rid of him. Tech may slip up on the Dawgs. Depends on how high the Georgia team is at the game. Imagine Crowell will be stoned.
And then LSU. That should be at least a 30 point Dawg disaster. Then I beat LSU for another national championship.

Typical Jeff and AJCUGA thinking. Georgia hasn’t played anybody worthy except Boise State and South Carolina and they got beat by both. I give LSU and Alabama some credit since they do schedule some tough teams out of conference. Georgia is overrated, overstated, and certainly overreported. Go Jackets!

Nothing is certain in this game – UGA’s defense seems to be in good shape right now compared to the last few years headed into the GTech game, but with the different style of attack, this is a whole new affair for Grantham to prepare for. I think UGA is more likely to score big, but Tech could put up 20 or 30 if it is clicking offensively, and that would be enough to put the results in doubt.
