NASHVILLE — If I’m a little slow getting this live blog started, it’s because I just ate about 27 pounds of barbecue — the combo plate of ribs, pulled pork and brisket — at the Wildhorse Saloon. Seriously, it’s some of the best Q I’ve ever had — and I’m sure I’ll be sweating it out in the middle of the night.
PETA did not endorse my lunch. But I will.
Most of you probably have been to Nashville at some point. For those who haven’t, I highly recommend it. Watching Steve Spurrier and South Carolina almost blow a game at Mississippi State is about the only thing that prevented this from being a perfect day. That is to say, they didn’t blow it. The Gamcocks got a touchdown pass from Connor Shaw to Alshon Jeffery with 3:50 left and escaped Starkville with a 14-12 win. A South Carolina loss and the door to a division title would’ve blown open today

for the Bulldogs.
South Carolina already has endured turnover at the quarterback position (Stephen Garcia was kicked off the team) and Saturday saw running back Marcus Lattimore suffer a sprained knee in the fourth quarter. After the game, Spurrier told the media Lattimore’s injury “could be serious. He could be out a while.” The Gamecocks are off next week before resuming Oct. 29 with consecutive SEC games against Tennessee (road), Arkansas (road) and Florida (home).

So going into tonight’s game against Vanderbilt, the Dogs (3-1) trail South Carolina by (4-1) by a half-game in the SEC Eastern Division, with the Gamecocks still holding the tiebreaker edge. Florida (2-2, 4-2) kicks off against Auburn tonight at the same time as the Georgia game.
For Georgia, this game against Vandy really is about making the Florida game mean something. Losing the first two games of the season to Boise State and South Carolina basically left the Dogs with little to no room for error.

It’s understandable if you’re still not sure what to think of this team. Since starting 0-2, the Dogs have won four straight over Coastal Carolina, Mississippi, Mississippi State and Tennessee by a composite score of 130-35 The three SEC wins have come over schools that entered the weekend with a combined conference record of 0-7.
If Georgia struggles tonight, something is wrong. The Commodores have lost their last two SEC games (Alabama, South Carolina) by a combined 55-3. Their offense is awful, their defense decent. It shouldn’t take a lot of points to win this.
For what it’s worth, Georgia is 51-18-2 all-time in the series and has won 15 of the last 16 meetings. The Dogs’ have won nine straight in Nashville since their last loss in 1991 (27-25 under Ray Goff).

The defense started lights out on the first possession. Since then, they are missing tackles left and right. Not sure what’s going on with Crowell. Samuel has been running okay. Not sure why they keep passing the ball if the running is effective. Hopefully Crowell is not hurt or being held out for something else.

Georgia Tech had the nation’s best average SAT score for football players, 1028 of a possible 1600, and best average high school GPA, 3.39 of a possible 4.0. But because its student body is apparently very smart, Tech’s football players still scored 315 SAT points lower than their classmates.
Many schools routinely used a special admissions process to admit athletes who did not meet the normal entrance requirements. More than half of scholarship athletes at the University of Georgia, the University of Wisconsin, Clemson University, UCLA, Rutgers University, Texas A&M University and Louisiana State University were special admits. . . At Georgia, for instance, 74 percent of athletes were special admits compared with 7 percent of the student body as a whole.

I like Murray seems like a good kid, but he is not THAT GUY like he seems to be spoke about. He is average at best. He certainly is not a game changing talent. For UGA to be successful with him, he is going to have to let the other playmaker do it without making the routine mistakes. Riding his back won’t take you very far.

Okay Okay My People…… I know we’ve been less than mediocre at best the past two seasons, but we’re on a nice little streak lately and things are lining up in our favor. I could have cared less if we dropped CMR after last season (let’s face it….I was PO’d man), but we didn’t. We started out the gate slow and confused against Boise St then improved somewhat in a loss to S. Carolina (we got smart and ran Crowell). We still aren’t blowing doors off like Bama and LSU, but we could very well be playing one of them in Atlanta. IF we don’t beat Florida…….I’ll join in your Fire CMR Parade from over here in Iraq, but as a Dawg Fan I can’t root against him. What happens after the season happens…but I’m 100% GO DAWGS. I’ll let the AD and the President deal with the rest. That’s above my tax bracket. “GO DAWGS!!!!”

UGA isn’t Alabama. Never has been. Never will be. In my lifetime, the best UGA has ever been has been under Richt. Other than Dooley’s early 80’s run, the run Richt went on from 2002-2007 is unmatched in UGA history. I’ve read Loran Smith’s book cover to cover numerous times. We are a program that wins a NT every 30 years or so, and wins more than our share of SEC championships. Richt had us in contention in ‘02 and ‘07 for the national title and won SEC titles in ‘02 and ‘05. He’ll win another unless we shove him out the door for the next Jim Donnan. Took Dooley over 15 years to win a national title, and he didn’t have anything close to the success early on like Richt has. So yeah, I’ve done my homework.

Thank god Granthams got a pair – Richt doesn’t – Franklin is a hack his guys played dirty all night and CTG called him out on it. CMR lost alot of the good will he gained over the last three weeks.
