LIVE: Another win keeps Georgia in SEC East hunt

Another "partial sellout" flows through the gates at Vanderbilt Stadium.

NASHVILLE — If I’m a little slow getting this live blog started, it’s because I just ate about 27 pounds of barbecue — the combo plate of ribs, pulled pork and brisket — at the Wildhorse Saloon. Seriously, it’s some of the best Q I’ve ever had — and I’m sure I’ll be sweating it out in the middle of the night.

PETA did not endorse my lunch. But I will.

PETA did not endorse my lunch. But I will.

Most of you probably have been to Nashville at some point. For those who haven’t, I highly recommend it. Watching Steve Spurrier and South Carolina almost blow a game at Mississippi State is about the only thing that prevented this from being a perfect day. That is to say, they didn’t blow it. The Gamcocks got a touchdown pass from Connor Shaw to Alshon Jeffery with 3:50 left and escaped Starkville with a 14-12 win. A South Carolina loss and the door to a division title would’ve blown open today

Elvis, Elvis, everywhere. (How much BBQ could he put away?)

Elvis, Elvis, everywhere. (How much BBQ could he put away?)

for the Bulldogs.

South Carolina already has endured turnover at the quarterback position (Stephen Garcia was kicked off the team) and Saturday saw running back Marcus Lattimore suffer a sprained knee in the fourth quarter. After the game, Spurrier told the media Lattimore’s injury “could be serious. He could be out a while.”  The Gamecocks are off next week before resuming Oct. 29 with consecutive SEC games against Tennessee (road), Arkansas (road) and Florida (home).

The Opryland grotto. The river is completely natural.

The Opryland grotto. The river is completely natural.

So going into tonight’s game against Vanderbilt, the Dogs (3-1) trail South Carolina by (4-1) by a half-game in the SEC Eastern Division, with the Gamecocks still holding the tiebreaker edge. Florida (2-2, 4-2) kicks off against Auburn tonight at the same time as the Georgia game.

For Georgia, this game against Vandy really is about making the Florida game mean something. Losing the first two games of the season to Boise State and South Carolina basically left the Dogs with little to no room for error.

That's my wife on the left, posing with Steve Spurrier, I think.

That's my wife on the left, posing with Steve Spurrier, I think.

It’s understandable if you’re still not sure what to think of this team. Since starting 0-2, the Dogs have won four straight over Coastal Carolina, Mississippi, Mississippi State and Tennessee by a composite score of 130-35 The three SEC wins have come over schools that entered the weekend with a combined conference record of 0-7.

If Georgia struggles tonight, something is wrong. The Commodores have lost their last two SEC games (Alabama, South Carolina) by a combined 55-3. Their offense is awful, their defense decent. It shouldn’t take a lot of points to win this.

For what it’s worth, Georgia is 51-18-2 all-time in the series and has won 15 of the last 16 meetings. The Dogs’ have won nine straight in Nashville since their last loss in 1991 (27-25 under Ray Goff).

OK, that’s it for now. I’m going to do some laps. I’ll be back shortly for the duration.

I can only hope we’re lulling them into some sense of complacency, at the expense of making the Vandy D look like Bama.

@Jeff: Not like Murray is doing much better tonight. He ALWAYS overthrows receivers on plays where it’s a sure catch.

And Blair Walsh misses again! He needs to be benched for a game.

Do we have another fg kicker? They certainly couldn’t be any worse than Walsh this year.

Now I remember why I can’t wait to move to Hiawassee and the lake….I will not be able to recieve UGA games unless they are on a national network and I will not have to watch silly play calling from Mike “I hate the name BooBoo” Bobo…..why can’t Richt and his silly OC just line up and knock em backward…quit calling finese plays, quit trying to out cute your opponent and line up and knock em down……

We now have the complete list of courses that Isaiah Crowell is taking for the fall semester. It’s a pretty ambitious schedule for the lad, but I’m sure he’ll be up to it.

1. Know Your ABCs – Part I (A-M)

2. Fun With Dick and Jane – The Coloring Book

3. Life Studies: Put the Mojo on Your Teammates While Emptying Their Lockers

4. Law 101 – Know Your Miranda Rights

5. Dress for Success: The Inspiring True Story of the Fabled Red Panties

6. Arithmetic 1 – Multiplying by One

7. Psychology: Getting Along With Your Cellmate

I like Murray seems like a good kid, but he is not THAT GUY like he seems to be spoke about. He is average at best. He certainly is not a game changing talent. For UGA to be successful with him, he is going to have to let the other playmaker do it without making the routine mistakes. Riding his back won’t take you very far.

Mark Richt is clearly not happy with Murray or Walsh. I wouldn’t be surprised to see a QB change before this is over. You can’t keep giving a team chances that you should beat.

It looked like Conley but on 3rd down Conley was wide open on a slant over the middle. If Murray is too short to see or too timid to make a quick decision CMR needs to put Mason in.
So far our offense looks terrible and Murray is the problem not Vanderbilt’s defense. Murray is taking way too long .

the SEC East just needs to go ahead concede the SEC Championship to either LSU or Alabama. There’s no way the 3 crappy teams in contention are going to beat them.

You Bobo haters…I don’t like any of these coaches, but our players CAN’T EXECUTE. Period. Can’t execute a screen, can’t execute a dive, can’t execute a toss sweep, can’t execute a slant, can’t execute a go. They just can’t execute. I blame that on Richt, then Bobo.
