NCAA right to end investigation into Cam Newton, Auburn

Cam Newton can celebrate another victory. The NCAA has closed the book on its investigation.

Cam Newton can celebrate another victory. The NCAA has closed the book on its investigation.

(MOST RECENT UPDATE: 6:30 p.m.)

The conspiracy theories won’t end.  But the NCAA says its investigation into Cam Newton’s recruitment by Auburn is over.

College’s football’s relative governing body announced Wednesday it was closing the book on Newton and Auburn after conducting “more than 80 interviews,” apparently none of whom claimed — and could verify — that they were offered money, took money or had a cash register receipt for somebody who did.

Go ahead and whine. But I’m not sure how you can fault the NCAA on this. There is little question the NCAA, for all of the criticism it has received over the past several months on how it has handled this, would have nailed Auburn and/or Newton if it could have.  The NCAA is not above wanting to make a big show of things.

The problem: There’s simply no evidence of wrongdoing.

Here’s a copy of the NCAA’s statement:

After conducting more than 80 interviews, the NCAA has concluded its investigation into Auburn University.  The NCAA enforcement staff is committed to a fair and thorough investigative process.  As such, any allegations of major rules violations must meet a burden of proof, which is a higher standard than rampant public speculation online and in the media.  The allegations must be based on credible and persuasive information and includes a good-faith belief that the Committee on Infractions could make a finding.  As with any case, should the enforcement staff become aware of additional credible information, it will review the information to determine whether further investigation is warranted.

Yes, we know that Newton’s father, the pastor Cecil “Huggy Bear” Newton Sr. tried to pimp his son out to the highest bidder. The NCAA found back in December of 2010 that Cecil attempted to solicit a large payment, reportedly $180,000, from Mississippi State in exchange for assurances that his son would transfer there from a junior college, bringing his football talents with him.

For this NCAA violation, Newton was ruled ineligible — unbeknownst everybody at the time. He then was reinstated in time for Auburn’s SEC championship game three days later, when the whole bizarre chain of events was disclosed. The NCAA was criticized at the time for not declaring Newton ineligible for the season. But it ruled that there was insufficient evidence that Cam Newton was aware of his father’s actions.

Now, if you wish to debate the logic of that, that’s fine. But what you think you may know is not exactly considered admissible evidence in a court of law. And there certainly never has been a evidence of wrongdoing by Auburn in all of this, despite what buffoons like Danny Sheridan might claim on radio shows.

Jackie Thurns, the NCAA’s associate director of enforcement, sent an email to Auburn athletic director Jay Jacobs on Tuesday that outlined its 13-month investigation into the Tigers, not just regarding Newton but allegations of impermissible inducements and extra benefits connected to four other players: Raven Gray, Stanley McGlover, Chaz Ramsey and Troy Reddick. All made allegations on HBO’s “Real Sports” show called, “Dirty Money,” but nothing could be substantiated.

If anybody committed a crime, they did an excellent job wiping away the finger prints.

College football stirs emotions here in the South, and nobody stirred them more last year than Newton during Auburn’s unexpected run to a national championship. But the contention of many that Newton should not have been eligible to win the Heisman Trophy (which he did) and Auburn should not have been allowed to play for the SEC and BCS titles (which it did, and won) were baseless.

Many will vent about this, as they have for months. There will be angry comments from fans and flaming comments from a few major media outlets that quoted double-secret sources of Newton’s guilt and Auburn’s finger prints.

But the NCAA made the right decision here. The last time I checked, we don’t convict in this country on a juicy theory.

I’m not sure it matters any more … the NCAA loses credibility every time something happens (or, as the case is here, “doesn’t happen”) due to the uneven punishments they hand out. What the local schools ought to do from here on out is lighten up the self-imposed penalties … next time somebody sells their jersey, they ought to be told they can’t buy ice cream from the dining hall for two weeks. I’m sure the Infractions Committee will buy that … what the hell, they bought this.

Not exactly a “Clean Bill of Health” press release is it. When you cheat so often it becomes your finest tradition (how many times on major probation? Is it 5?) to the extent two undefeated teams sat home during bowl season on probation, then you evidently become so good at it you don’t get caught any longer.

Auburn didn’t cheat, OJ didn’t kill Nicole, Barry Bonds, Sammy Sosa and Mark MaGwire didn’t juice, and Bill Clinton did not have sexual relations with that woman.

So weak. Basically a player’s family get’s 200,000 bucks and four seperate players admit to HBO they cheated, with no penalty. At Miami ridiculous things like purchasing several escalades to buying prostitutes for recruits goes with a one game ban for the quarterback. However at Baylor a kid’s mom gets a loan from a coach when the kid is a sophmore in high school, pays the loan back immediately, but the kid (Perry Jones III) gets suspended for 6 games.

They are all about money. The NCAA is just as clean as Auburn for example…

Any institution that has enough money to keep them quiet and out of their backyard will walk clean with a slap on the wrist and a wink. Think I’m lying? Then tell me how a program like THE Ohio State University doesn’t get the death penalty after evidence shows a lack of control for almost a decade(especially when you consider the fact that they were already on probation during the time… and yes their kids still broke the rules after the scandal broke… I mowed your lawn, gimme bout $300)? How does UNC not get buried for Butch’s transgressions? How does USC escape, yeah I don’t think their punishment was hard enough, with only probation and a loss of scholarships… Meanwhile Tech (and you know I hate those nerds) gets smacked hard for like a couple hundred dollars by only 2 players?…. Look at the revenue stream Tech generates when compared t the other schools!.. Rule of thumb, money rules everything, even one of God’s chosen people… Aint that right Cecil?

Jeff,

You are incorrect on a few things. first off, the NCAA is NOT a court that must abide by any real legal standards. There is no burden of proof beyond a reasonable doubt or anything else. To believe what the NCAA is saying is to believe that Huggy Bear pimped out his son (and I believe that this was verified) for the sum of $180k but that he went to AU for nothing. Nothing. That is just not a credible argument.

Second, and this may not be your inaccuracy but more the ncaa’s illogical conclusion–how can the ncaa rule someone ineligible for a very serious action and then rule the very next day that he has instantly been reinstated and that no wrongdoing was found? If there was no wrongdoing, then why rule him ineligible to begin with? that’s asinine.

Third, where has it EVER been interpreted that ncaa violations involving benefits ONLY are ok IF the athlete knows what his family members are doing on his behalf? A violation is a violation regardless whether or not Cam knew about it. The inconsistency here is just damning in my view.

I’m certain at least one Auburn football player who took the field in 2010 received ‘impermissible benefits’ at some point or another. I’m also convinced that every team that has ever won a MNC in the modern era (whatever that even means) of CFB fielded at least one player that took improper benefits in the eyes of the preeminent NCAA.

Can I prove these theories? Of course not. But there’s simply no way a team could compete at the highest level without someone providing incentives for these world class athletes to come to their institution. Get real and get over it, people. Auburn got jipped because they didn’t get to enjoy their championship season the way all of those other “cheaters” that preceded them did. If you want to start flinging asterisks around like it’s MLB in the late 90s, then by all means put one by EVERY TEAM THAT HAS EVER WON A CHAMPIONSHIP.

UGA has won a few games in a row so I guess we can expect their quick return to trash talking, but just a couple early losses were enough to give the rest of the league a respite, so I guess we can live with it..I still don’t think they can pencil AU in as a win yet..

No the NCAA did not do it’s job and any compitent reporter would know that. Wait a second. A former head coach did come out and say that Auburn players were being paid. A former head coach and 4 former players and the fact that his father was selling his son’s services to the highest bidder wasn’t enough? Jeff I think that it is time thay maybe you should find a new line of work. If I were a University being Investigated by the NCAA I would not allow them on my campus, I would not allow them to my students, my coaches nor anyone that has anything to do with my school. In fact I can’t for the life of me understand why the Universitys just don’t up and tell the NCAA to go to you-know- where and leave the NCAA. Newton was attempting to milk MSU for $180,000 and Cam didn’t go there, what did Auburn or someone affiliated with the War Eagle/Tiger program provide Rev. Newton? Everyone knows the NCAA is only concerned about avoiding scandal. Follow the money Jeff and maybe a Pulitzer awaits…

NCAA invetigators are mostly women and cannot dig enough. Why are 80% of police investigators male. Its because they are more instinctive and can dig. Ask why Cam Newtons dad pimped him out. He got money from Auburn thru Dog track owner and now that Auburn won National Championship and Cam the #1 pick in NFL and playing well. Money talks and character and crooks win. Cam rode around on a scooter while a student at Auburn. Herschel drove around in a Trans Am while a student at UGA.
Any unbiased journalist would hunt down and find a copy of the Sports Illustrated issue from the 1980s with a cover story entitled “When the cheering stops”. Jan Kemp and “developmental studies” was a drop in the bucket to the “Welcome Wagon” and the envelopes full of money that was slid under UGA football players’ dorm room doors during the 1980 football season.

I guess you think that black people alone got Obama elected? I’ll speak for the voice of one middle aged white man … I hated MJ and Tiger (I am one of the few) because I hate to see one person dominate a sport like that. I also hated Bird for the same reason. I hate Bonds because he broke my hero’s (the only sports hero I have) home run record. I thought it was funny when he beat the other cheater, Mark McGuire’s, hr record because I hate him more. I hate Cam Newton because he is narcissistic. I hate that he would run out separate from his team. I think that is crummy. (When I say, “hate” I mean sports hate. For those of you who found the two-page letter a little difficult to comprehend, here’s a followup statement from NCAA spokesperson Stacey Osburn on the AU investigation: “We’ve conducted a thorough investigation and have done all we can do. There’s nothing there.”

Through tax records, bank records, personal observations in the Newton home, business and church on several different occasions, there has not been a single item that indicates any extra money came into that family.

Mississippi States’ Kenny Rogers and Cecil Newton discussed money in a Starkeville hotel on November 27, 2009. $200,000, of which 20,000 was to be Rogers’ fee. Since Rogers couldn’t raise $200, let alone $200,000, that’s where the money talks stopped.

Ask why money was not mentioned on Cam’s recruiting trips to Oklahoma, Tennessee or Auburn, as the NCAA asked. The answer was money was not discussed anywhere but at Mississippi State.

Cecil wasn’t “shopping” Cam’s services, Kenny Rogers was hustling a deal, trying to make a buck. End of story.

I don’t know if the Newton’s got any money from Auburn, but the NCAA sure made it look like they were trying not to find anything. It took weeks for the NCAA to figure out what they were going to do about AJ Green selling his jersey and UGA had no real choice but to keep him on the sideline while the NCAA slowly investigated. GA Tech made the mistake of letting Demaryius Thomas play while the NCAA was trying to figure out if he was guilty of accepting a few hundred dollars worth of clothing and it cost them their ACC Championship. When it came to the Cam Newton case, the NCAA was able to make a decision about his eligibility in the middle of the night and have him back in the line-up the next day. Maybe Cam isn’t guilty of taking money from Auburn, but the NCAA has about as much credibility as the first OJ Simpson jury.

UGA fans might as well stop hatin’ on Auburn and accept the fact that the Tigers are NOT GUILTY !! Talk about conspiracies but here’s one. Do the Dawgs hate AU was found not guilty of any payoffs because it took Tiger coach G.Chizik just two years in the SEC to win the National Title and UGA coach M.Richt hasn’t delivered yet in eleven years. If that’s the reason then I see why UGA has the most delusional fans, along with FSU fans in the nation. As a Dawg I give Auburn all the credit they richly deserve ! Their coaching staff is far smarter than ours. Only an idiot posing as a coach would pass up an opportunity to win the national title by recruiting Cam Newton at tight end than quarterback ! And when you think about it what would Urban Meyer have accomplished if he was able to keep Cam Newton at UF ? Georgia fans should really shut up and be glad Newton did leave Florida for Auburn. Had Newton stayed at UF and won titles clearly the pious Richt would have been run out of Georgia by now. All Georgia fans are not jealous or delusional. You ( and Sgt. Jeff Shultz) might want to pretend this is just about Bama or Georgia fans . A quick trip to ANY sports forum where the idiots don’t end every sentence with W.D.E. (apparently short for W.e D.eny E.verything) shows that is a lie . Fans of teams who NEVER play /*\U in so much as a game of badminton can recognize a b*llsh*t coverup when they smell it .

You can bet that REGARDLESS of what Sgt. Shultz here thinks … this outcome that spits in the face of ALL fari minded college football fans WILL create more problems than the NCAA thinks it just solved by trying to sweep it under the rug .

The NCAA has been slamming other programs for years if their players get so much as a “unauthorized” ice cream cone , sitting players for mutliple games if they accept so much as a car ride to get home for a funeral , keeping investigations against school like the USC Trojans open for over four years . Yet when it comes to the $Cam the NCAA opens and slams the book so fast someone is lucky they didn’t lose a finger . First he is Declared ineligible … then eligible fatser than he could steal a laptop . Then when that didn’t go over well they pretend to investigate to “calm everyone down” . In the middle of that investigation FOUR /*\U players go live , on air , and CONFESS to taking bags of cash … result ? The NCAA can’t find any evidence and those are just “allegations” ROFL ( someone in the NCAA offices might want to learn the different between the words “allegations” and “confessions”

All of which begs the question MikeP … YOU have been the /*\U head clown on AJC comments claiming there was no investigation for months . Now you accept that announcement that the investigation is over and pronounce that it “proves” $Cam U was “clean” all along .

Obviously there was an “investigation” …. even if it was a farce …. not that a fan of a cheating scumbag program like /*\U would care . Lie one week …tell a different lie the next … what’s the difference ? All part of being part of the the “Fambly” lifestyle .

Then again … given the pathetic excuse for “investigation” from the very beginning on this entire charade … maybe you were right all along . The so called “investigation” was obviously more of a “cleanup on Aisle 3″ type thing than any effort to find the truth .

Just curious there … because I am sure it doesn’t happen often for people like you … How does it feel to tell even half a truth … even if it was by accident ?

Congratulations on /*\U being able to find the right mix of liars and scumbags to apparently get away with buying that once in a Tiger fans lifetime whiff of a $Campionship . ;-)

None of the other SEC programs that have won the NC carry that reputation. Plenty dislike those teams but Auburn is dirty regardless of what a useless body like the NCAA says or the AJC. Some of you are just sad. Nothing on or off the field turned out as you want and your angry and bitter about it. There were promises and I read them here of FBI tapes nailing Auburn. Then an article came out that said Cam or Auburn was never mentioned in those tapes. So those of you who said that lied. And those who said the NCAA would find Auburn guilty, you lied. You had no idea what you were talking about. So your recourse is to sit here and throw a tantrum worthy of a… Georgia fan. Sigh.

Wake up. Go get a shower. Go on. Be a man and say “congratulations Auburn”. Be a man and realize the NCAA (as another source said put tremendous amount of money and people into the Auburn investigation) walked onto that campus, interviewed 80 people, looked at every record and came out with nada and not even a side offense. Pretty darn impressive.

And Alabama fans… you’re on the verge of the death penalty and there are pictures turning up with your football players having dinner with boosters and signing pictures at a clothing store that the school disavows itself from. No way that Cam and pastor Daddy did not have daily conversations about schools and ways to get him the best deal. Absolutely NO WAY. Do not care how Cam is touted by everybody in the sports world; he is a physically great athlete but he is a cheater that rose to fame on that BIG CHEAT. Will NEVER pull for him in pro football or his team and waiting for the day that the real truth unfolds even if 20 years from now.

Cam will always be a triple threat…liar(Sgt Scultz defense), a cheat (see UF) and a thief (see UF) and of course Cecil, pastor at the Church of What’s Happening Now (is a new Escalade in the future) Good grief even Stevie Wonder could connect those dots but then again we are talking about the NCAA which has the same degree of integrity as Ceil!!

Jeff,
I agree. No evidence means it’s time to close the book on this at Auburn. What I would like to know is how is MSU waking away from all of this? Weren’t they the ones actually having the conversations with Cecil Newton about pay for play? Can you shed some light on this for us?

While it may (or may not) be true that Cecil Newton sought financial compensation from Mississippi State in exchange for Cam Newton’s services, I told the NCAA investigators that I had no knowledge of any such discussions. That was good enough for them. They cleared us of all wrongdoing in less than 24 hours.

If you’re gonna pull off this sort of heist, you have to be all in. You had better make sure that you’ve got all of your pieces in place. If you manage to get yourself in position to embarrass not only your conference, but your entire league by blowing up the post-season and costing the SEC, the NCAA and the BCS millions of dollars, then you’d be surprised by the ease with which you can prove your innocence. Throwing a little Jesus© into the mix doesn’t hurt either.

This is not a game for the feint of heart. This is a maneuver that should only be attempted by seasoned professionals. By he way, have you seen my new office? Come on in. I’ll show you around.

The problem with this case is it always relied on someone coming forward and fessing up. Which wasn’t likely to happen as AU has a long history of paying to shut people up (coaches & players alike). I haven’t read the report but listening to the comments of people who have it was more a fact of what they had “not meeting a burden of proof” than them not having anything. And they noted how curious it was that everything was totally clean…no secondary violations found either, which almost 100% of the time are found during this type of investigation. Which tells me everything was spit cleaned to upmost to complete the cover up. So congrats, you kept everyone quiet and got away with it. But I for one will never believe he played for free after asking for money elsewhere, that just doesn’t make sense.

The NCAA is not a legal body and it has no power to prosicute so when it runs into a wall of silence it is powerless. Professional cheaters like Auburn football or Kentucky basketball know the rules and there right so it takes a while.
In the next 3 to 5 years it will break, someone will brag or someone will deciede to write a detailed book and the skinny will emerge.

Most of the people who I know and who are not Auburn fans believe Cam Newton had some type of knowledge of what his father was doing. Even though no one could prove it, Cam and Cecil have shown by their past actions what kind of men they are. Stealing and selling out your son…when you are a pastor. At this point though there is nothing anyone can do, Cam is making big bucks in the NFL and if something were to come out now it would hurt the school, not the Newtons. Wonder how Tiger fans would feel then? Cam is a great player no doubt, I just think the NCAA totally missed this one. So, the NCAA snoops that were sharp enough to find $1,000 in the Greene case couldn’t find 200K at the Newton household? After 20 months of snooping they couldn’t find an extra dime? Your only reasonable explanation is that there WAS NO extra money.

Love how posters here deny reality: Houston Chronicle, Gainesvile Sun and so forth prove that Cam Newton did not cheat at Florida and left the program in good standing both athletically and academically, yet supposedly ” honest” posters here continue to type lies.

That doesn’t mean it didn’t happen it just means there isn’t enough evidence to convict in a court of law. Good grief, criminals get set free all the time because someone messed up something, didn’t file something on time, evidence was “compromised”, etc. A lawyer’s job is to find loopholes in the system that prevent a conviction. Just because the justice system says I am innocent doesn’t mean I didn’t do something wrong, it just means they couldn’t prove it, 2 completely different things.

Our justice system is as flawed as our government. They are both run by egomaniacs with personal agendas.

The NCAA gives itself a license to declare players eligible or ineligible. The NCAA imposes sanctions on Universities at their choosing…..like they have several times before against Auburn. The same NCAA in this case ruled that Auburn committed no wrongdoing. But the NCAA did not award Auburn a “National Championship” and in fact doesn’t even acknowledge it. They never have. There has never been a National Champion in D1A college football. Not Georgia’s NC’s in 42/46/80, not the 146 Alabama claims ;) ………..not 96/06/08 Florida claims, the 4 Tech claims, ND, USC, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Ohio State, Penn State, LSU, Miami, FSU, Michigan, Texas, etc etc etc

So is the NCAA THE Authority in college football or not?

If they are, Auburn is not the National Champion for 2010, no D1A team has ever been.

If they aren’t then it doesn’t matter what they say about Auburn cheating or not cheating or about any other university for that matter.

It’s all fan speculation.

Of course……….

The NCAA, the Universities, the conference offices, and the bowl committees keep cashing the checks.

Unlike most of the guys in the league, Cam had a father figure in his life. Unfortunately his father is a scum bag already trying to profit off of his son’s abilities. Apparently the young man never had plans for school. I guess we will find out how far that smile and that arm will take him. I am a lawyer and would make three points. Playing college football is not a constitutional right and the SEC (and NCAA) are free to adopt standards that are higher than what we find in our local criminal courts on a daily basis. Secondly, even in the criminal courts circumstantial evidence is admissable and “proves’ a fact as well as direct evidence. Now you may want to believe the son did not know what the father was up to at the time it was happening (I don’t), but don’t you find the son’s comments about the dad more than just a tad curious when he publically condoned all of his dad’s behavior after it had been publically revealed? (Imagine the defendant’s son taking the stand and saying “we are all family and my dad has done nothing wrong” after the prosecution showed the video of the dad robbing the store owner. I would want to know who was driving the get away car). Thirdly, as a lawyer my advice to any kid in a similar situation with a set of values similar to the Newton family’s and yours would be to let the dad do all the negotiating and deny knowledge if he gets caught. If the kid feels a little uneasy about letting his dad take all the “blame” I would remind him that the media casts no blame and makes no moral judgements, even as you say your father did nothing wrong. Welcome to the brave new world of college football morality. Congratulations!

Newton’s father did not break any NCAA rules last year. However, his actions will be in violation of NCAA rules now that the NCAA has decided to prohibit parents from seeking payoffs for their child’s services. So, in that huge NCAA rulebook, which requires compliance officers at all universities to oversee regulations on phone use, cafeterias, etc., they failed to ban parents from selling their kids? No rule on shopping kids was in place? Wow, what a loophole! That’s a truly egregious oversight and something that truly tarnished a national championship and an entire year of college football. The NCAA lacks credibility as an oversight entity. They now have a rule banning Newton’s father’s actions. It came a year too late.

When you say “we”, I assume you are referring to our nation’s legal system. Please be aware, however, that the NCAA rules and protocols have absolutely nothing the to do with our legal system. The NCAA’s tactics with regard to lack of due-process and its dependence on “secret witnesses” (right, Phil/TN?) would get it thrown out of every court in the land and likely jailed for contempt.

This article conflates the concept of criminal activity and violations of NCAA regulations. Furthermore, Schultz is wrong about whether “a juicy theory” is enough to convict. Criminal law in this country allows for a finding of guilt based solely on circumstantial evidence. That the NCAA refuses to use circumstantial evidence just shows it found an excuse to look the other way. The NCAA knows its big sporting programs stink and it’s trying to cover things up now.

Sorry fellow , you’re an idiot for sure.^^^^^^^

Not in the official NCAA histories . 2010 is a NC for the Auburn Tigers. They were honest and the BEST college team in the nation. Auburn did it with 1 of the greatest players of all time . Is it just me or is this decision moot? I think the large majority of people understood that nothing would be found and that Newton, as well as Auburn, would not be hit with any penalties for wrongdoing. And coming from a current student at Alabama, last year’s season is anything but on our minds right now; we don’t care about Auburn winning last year as much as we do about succeeding this season. Generally, we’ve been over this thing for months now. Jealous of Auburn?, if you paid attention, you’d find that almost 100% of UGA fans congratulated, and were proud to be in the same conference as, UF, LSU and Bama when they WON their NC’s. I know that I personally did. But I and most of my fellow SEC’ers, as well as the rest of the NCAA, knows *AU’s track record, as well as the mountain of “circumstantial” (ala OJ) evidence against you. With characters like Lowder, McGregor, etc. leading the way, it speaks volumes about the program. Then you have a player who cheated and stole at UF who *AU welcomed with open arms and played but one season there (this after offering his services to the highest bidder). Not to mention the HBO boys who all of a sudden got quiet. If Bama did all of this, *Aubies would be shouting from Cheaha Mountain. *AU cheated and, for now at least, has gotten away with it. Deep down inside you *Aubies know it or you wouldn’t be protesting so much to try and make everyone else think you’re clean. You’re not and no one believes your cover-ups. The *’10 NC and *Heisman are badly tainted. And just like *Sosa, *McGuire, *Clemens, and *Bonds, *Auburn will always carry an asterisk.

O. J. didn’t do it! It was proven!

October 13th, 2011
3:19 pm

It’s amazing to me how many UGA fans wanted Cam and Auburn to be guilty. I posed the question to UGA fans a long time ago, and I could pose it again now, but it wouldn’t matter. UGA fans then, as well as now, didn’t want to admit why they felt that way.

The truth is that UGA was mad that Cam was allowed to play in the Auburn/UGA game, because they knew that they had a much better chance without him. UGA, regardless of it’s storied tradition of football, has become the school that wants to play their opponents at their weakest, not at their best. They want players to be sat by their school, to not be allowed to play by the NCAA, or to be injured so that UGA will have a better chance of winning (UGA fans have become very interested in Brantley’s healing process).

Additionally, UGA was rooting AGAINST Auburn in the National Championship game. Instead of wanting the conference to win it’s 5th straight NC, they were more concerned about how another team (not UGA) winning the NC, and how it would make UGA more irrelevant.

Yes…UGA needed Auburn to be guilty. They needed an excuse that they could point to and say “that’s the reason we didn’t win the game.”

It’s sad to me to see UGA fans act that way.

Cam’s daddy admitted to shopping his son around, and the NCAA had to invent the CAM RULE. So don’t act like he’s innocent. The rules state that if a player is “shopped” to a school by someone acting as an agent on his behalf, then that player will be deemed ineligable. Auburn argued that they did not pay for Cam’s services, which may very well be true, and that he didn’t sign with the school that he was “shopped” to, as well as his dad was not an agent. The next “Cam’s Daddy” that tries this crap, will find a different outcome!!!!!!!

If the NCAA is looking into a program they generally find something if there is something to be found. Auburn has put in place great processes, and great people to ensure they are compliant. All the other scholls that have current NCAA issues has no bearing on each individual school’s investigation. They all stand alone, so comparing 1 to another is not an accurate comparison.

Ok, that was fun reading. As somebody posted here, there isn’t enough crow to go around on the Cam saga.
So in summary, AU won the NC and Heisman in 2010. It stays. That leaves all the top programs in the SEC with a BCS NC that stays. No, UGA is not a top program in the SEC, except maybe in a preseason (ha!) best, case, UGA is middle of the pack in the SEC.
Since the SEC went into divisional play, UA/UF 1 or 2; LSU 3; AU 4, UT5, (based on wins, NC, SEC champs, perfect seasons, trips to ATL) UGA no better than 6 in a conf and division that includes KY and VU. Just the plain truth.

NO WAY THE NCAA SHOULD HAVE ALLOWED HIM TO CONTINUE PLAYING AND RESTORING HIS ELIGIBILITY…BUT THEY WERE IN THE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP HUNT, AND THIS MEANT BIG BUCKS TO THE NCAA…BY GOING BACK AND FINDING SOMETHING NOW, THIS WOULD MAKE THEIR DECISION TO RESTORE HIS ELIGIBILITY LOOK LIKE A BAD DECISION ON THE NCAA’S PART…NO WAY THEY GOING DOWN THAT ROAD….

DON’T BLAME COACH JOHNSON AND TECH FOR BEING MAD….THEY INSINUATED THAT THE TECH COACHING STAFF/ATHLETIC DIRECTOR WERE WRONG FOR DISCUSSING THE SITUATION WITH THE PLAYER BEFORE THE NCAA GOT TO TALK TO HIM….COMING DOWN ON TECH LIKE THEY DID IS AWFUL….

Did you see this in the bleacher report?

Sources at the University of Georgia are not commenting on reports from Yahoo Sports that Bulldog freshman running back Isaiah Crowell’s estranged uncle sought payment in a pay-to-play scheme from the University of Alabama, University of Kentucky and University of Tennessee. Unnamed sources at the SEC say officials from Alabama reported the violation to the SEC in February.

In accordance with new NCAA rules Isaiah Crowell will be suspended indefinitely pending further investigation. Sources close to the Crowell family say the Crowell’s uncle Doug Montague is estranged from Isaiah and he has only met him at family functions as a child and that he has no part in Isaiah’s life. According to compliance officer at one major program that relationship will have to be investigated.and the faster it can be determined he had no contact the sooner he will be reinstated although it could take several weeks.

Now I made all that up. On an iPhone, that’s hard to do btw.

Anyways, I’m weary of this new Cam rule. What you have is a recipe on how to wreck another schools championship. It’s exactly what dawginlex foolishly wanted last year and while you may claim Cam and his father had a closer relationship how can you be sure? Every day people sleep in the same bed and even you know what with their spouse without ever knowing that same spouse has been you know what-ing with someone else.

This to me is a bad idea. If money exchanged hands you’ll have the evidence, you can’t hide $200,000 all that easily. Especially from the NCAA that wanted this real bad.

Ha ha ha. The best part is, if that story had been true and UGA had to forfeit it’s season because Isaiah Crowell was being paid to play… it’s be an improvement over losing games to say you had to forfeit!!

HA HA HA HA HA.

The problem for UGA fan’s is they believe every August they’ve won the national championship. When reality sets in, they get really mad. So they’re mad a lot.

So when Auburn, who is in UGA fan’s mind beneath UGA, wins out for the second time in a decade and wins the Heisman and BCS National Championship and smokes their team 49-31, they’re outraged. The Cam Newton saga was their outlet, their hope… their falsehood. Because when reality sets in and all they had hoped in terms of NCAA violations won’t ever happen what do they do? They come on the internet and say they were right and the NCAA was wrong!!! HA HA HA HA

This is just plain fun. I hope you know Auburn fans are smiling and laughing and UGA fans aren’t. This is just so much fun. :D :D

And you know what.. you know I’m right. We are laughing at you and smiling because you lied and lied and lied and we’re proven wrong and wrong and wrong. No different then saying we’ll beat you and you get beaten 49-31 and you say we cheated because we played Cam and Cam cheated. Instead, we never cheated, and Cam beat the pooh out of you. I agree with whoever said UGA is desperate for their opponents to have injuries and suspensions so they have a chance to win. That says a lot right there and it’s so very true.

You’re about as worthless as the white inbred bag of pooh excuse of a dog for a mascot. UGA I to UGA whatever, what a difference inbreeding makes and how appropriate a mascot.

Several posters have referred to the NCAA’s new rule that would make a player ineligible if someone solicits money for him, even if he did not know. Do you really think that rule is anything but a nightmare? What if the kid’s stepfather hates him and sets him up? What if his sister is a selfish princess and asks for money? Does it not occur to you how easy it would be to have any team’s best recruit declared ineligible, for something he didn’t do or know about?

Haters are gonna hate. The fact is Auburn was cleared after an exhaustive 13 month investigation and NOTHING was found. Only Alabama is a repeat offender in the NCAA’s eyes in the State of Alabama. Deal with it. 28-27. WDE!

Maybe if the Mutts were even halfway relevant since a guy named Hershey Bar left campus in the early 80’s, they wouldnt have to worry about Auburn and Florida so much. Ga fans are pathetic losers. Ironic most of them are Falcon fans too. Maybe if either of those teams won, but I digress.

When wins become more important than integrity, you get yours Chizeks, your Lane Kiffins, southern Cal, Ohio State, etc.. Colleges need to get back to playing true students who are making reasonable progress to graduating in no more than five years. Reasonable rules should be laid out and violation of them is death to the violater in so far as the team and scholarship are involved!!!
