Carlton Thomas is the latest Georgia running back to find trouble. (Brant Sanderlin/AJC)
Back on the Left Coast, USC was referred to as “Tailback U” for its rich history of running backs. Among them: Marcus Allen, Mike Garrett, Charles White, Anthony Davis, Ricky Bell, Reggie Bush and a certain alleged double murderer.
Georgia’s history may or may not be equal to that, but with the likes of Herschel Walker, Garrison Hearst, Charley Trippi, Frank Sinkwich, Rodney Hampton, Robert Edwards and Knowshon Moreno, it has an argument.
So what happened?
The Bulldogs just lost their third running back of the offseason. At least for one game. Junior Carlton Thomas, who only last week spoke of taking on a leadership role with the team, has been suspended for one game for unspecified violation of team rules during spring football, according to our Chip Towers. That’s one less body available for the season opener against Boise State.
Thomas’ suspension follows Caleb King being declared academically ineligible (again) and ultimately leaving the program, then declaring himself for the NFL supplemental draft (good luck with that). And King’s exit followed Washaun Ealey being released and transferring to 1-AA Jacksonville State.
Ealey had a series of off-the-field incidents in Athens. So did King (who also was ineligible for last season’s bowl game and was suspended two games earlier in the season). Now, Thomas falls in line. Or maybe that should be out of line.
When and why did the Georgia running back position become such a parade of knuckleheads?
I’ve stated in this space before: How the Bulldogs perform next season will be based largely on the success of the offensive line and freshman back Isaiah Crowell. The Dogs’ best hope is that Crowell is a departure from his recent predecessors.

a little dose of reality here.
The depth chart for the opener will be:
Samuel-RS Jr 6′2″ 238 lbs
Malcome-RS Fr 6′1″ 220 lbs
Crowell-Fr 5′11″ 190 lbs
If we have the ball the normal projected amount of time-80 plays, Murray will throw it about 35 and we will run about 45.
Samuel will get 20+ carries
Malcome will get 8-10 carries
Crowell will get 8-10 carries
Nick Marshall/Branden Smith will get about 5 or 6
Crowell will be lucky to gain 30 yards.

Not really, if anything it’s further proof that running back is a harder position to fill than we usually think. The greats are few and far between. Just because the basic philosophy behind the position is simple the execution at elite levels is difficult.
It’s another reason I don’t feel so high on Crowell yet. Lattimore is an incredibly special talent who has the propensity to work very hard at his craft, those don’t come around all to frequently.
Most of these guys just play because of the bennies that come along with it.

this at least cuts out the stupid draw play right up the middle on 3rd and 8…lol With this tailback situation, UGA will have to be more creative in the passing game and spread the ball out. maybe use even more formations, shifts, and motions than ever before. I believe down to my core, with all these elements presenting problems, CMR will not give BoBo free reign on offense like in the past. It WILL cost him his job. I see some tension forming up between the two as CMR will probably overrule him alot on key downs. Take what we have left, call alot of slants and screens, then pound them in the third quarter with malcolme and samuel, they Could be unstoppable. there is nothing better than when a talented team and its embattled coach have their backs against the wall

To be honest – Ealey and King leaving is the best thing for them and the program. Both of these guys developed into liabilities and were cancerous to the team due there inconsistencies on and off the field.
Although it would have been a great story if the both turned it around – finally mature and “get it” – it was wishful thinking and I do wish them the best.
All is not lost:
1. Moving Samuel is HUGE and a plus. He passed blocked exxceptionally well when he played as a 17 year old – and is hungry and mature. Yes, he has stiff hips – but he is a powere runner.
2. Malcome is a brute – another power runner – redshirted last year and had a great spring – although he was injured. He is ready to go and will have 2 summers in the system. Reports are his fitness level is exceptional.
3. Brandon Harton – walk-on – fast, extremely quick – hard runner and a big surprise to the team.
Similar to Carlton Thomas – 3rd down and change of pace type of back.
4. I. Crowell – Should have an impact – need to find a way to put him in position to be successful as he is learning the system and learning how to pass block.
Regarding Carlton Thomas – extremely quick and fast – but he scares me as he is a fumble liability -even in the spring game – he fumbled. On his TD run – the ball squirted out after he broke the plain.
More concerned with the O-Line.

DawginLex,
If Murray averages 35 passes a game I think we are in trouble. Only two games last year did he attempt that many, Florida and UCF. I think we gotta pass it successfully, but that does not many in large quantities.
Schultz is right. UGA has had two good backs since 1995, Musa Smith and Knowshon Moreno. Edwards was nice, but only in glimpses. So what was once Tailback U is now as much a myth as anything. UGA has bombed on to many cant miss tailbacks, Sanks over Jamal Lewis? It is as much evaluation of talent as it is coaching. The talent evaluation in Athens has got to get more better as Ray Goff would say.

A legacy is not determined by one season alone let alone a one game suspension for a 2nd or 3rd string player. You can argue that CMR’s balanced approach has deemphasized the running game over the last ten years over the history of the program, I’d stack Georgia’s RBs against anybody. We’re forgetting other guys like Lars Tate, Tim Worley and Musa Smith. Also, even though he was overshadowed by Garrison Hearst, some guy named Terrel Davis.

Sensationalize? Yes, seriously. Three tailbacks having problems of various sorts does nothing to the legacy of great running backs at UGA. Why not just report the facts instead of fabricating some supposed hit to the “legacy”? Some of those facts might include the fact that UGA reruited a top running back last year, will, probably get another this year, and is already recruiting for the future at the position. The tradition will continue.

With a 238-pound RS-Jr. tailback meaned-up at linebacker for a year I’m expecting the Dawgs to line up and run right at people until they stop him. Unless one of those backs has a “break out” year and the OL responds to their new coach, this is going to be a long, long season. Best prepare for 7-5. Maybe 8-4.

Yes, that’s right . . . Coach has asked me to run a few plays at tailback. I run low to the ground and am hard to knock off my feet. Most importantly, I have no arrest record and I am popular on campus. I remember last year meeting the Okra Festival Queen. I’ve told some of you this story before. She was a student at UGA and she was wearing a hat that looked like a piece of fried okra. At halftime, she urged everyone to eat more okra and not to drive while drunk. That completed the Athens experience. It was a good day of Georgia football.

King and Ealey hurt UGA and Carlton Thomas is not an every down dependable RB.
Samuel, Malcome and Crowell will lead the way for UGA. It may take some time for this position to gel. I would be equally as concerned with your Offensive Line and WR’s.
If UGA picks up Marshall and Henry for 2013 – then UGA is have a stable of backs that every school will envy.
I wonder if D. Henry from Yulee (love the name – Yulee) will have a negative impact on UGA’s chances at getting Marshall.
BOISE VS UGA
Funny how many Dog fans are still thinking Georgia is going to hammer the Broncos!
Vegas and the rest of the college world see this as a Bronco victory.
I expect a hard fought game – and Boise to win this game – potentially win it going away in the last half of the 4Q. Much like Mississsippi State did – or South Carolina did – or Auburn did!
If this game is close in the 4Q – Boise will win.
Recent 8-5 and 6-7 records are not flukes – but realities to the state of the UGA football program.
Boise has a large number of returning starters – with the exception of WR. However, the next wave of WR’s will be ready to go. Our defense if very good – and our Offenses excels in picking teams apart. We play are disciplined and play as a TEAM – two things UGA has not done in quite sometime.
I expect UGA’s defense to be improved – but your OL is a mess, your WR’s are unproven, and you are converting a LB to play RB – when it did not work out for him the first time.
With that said – UGA may need to develop first half of the season – then gel into a monster second half. Like the year UGA whipped Hawaii. UGA was a completely different team 2nd half of that season.
Best of luck to UGA.
Since moving to ATL about 3 years ago – have really enjoyed following the teams and love the passion. ATL is the capital of college football – Hockey??? who cares!!!

The expectations are that Georgia plays in the SEC and Boise plays 10 really weak teams a year piling up impressive stats in a weak conference. It’s a good time for Boise to catch the Dawgs, because most Dawg teams year in and year out would beat Boise 9 of 10 times . Being a running back and a mascot at the same time is something I am glad to do for Coach Richt and the program. The hardest thing for me will be the “no-bite” rule. A little dog gets anxious when he’s playing ball and there is a tendency to snap at the tackler. Watching the game from the sidelines while your sitting on a bag of ice is different, just ask Barbara Dooley. I think getting to play on Saturdays is going to be a real treat. Terrel Davis— Ray Goff obviously misevaluated his talent.

All of you Boise State fans–remember all the sports announcers said Ga. couldn’t stay with Hawaii (same league) in the sugar bowl. But they found out that play in the SEC is different. I’m not saying Ga. will win–just that I wouldn’t pay much attention to what sports announcers on TV say. They are the same ones who pick Ohio State vs SEC in National Title games.

BSU has a good team, and they will come to play. But, as far as Boise fans talking about the state of UGA’s program: BSU played two ranked teams last season, barely beating one and losing to the other. The vast majority of their schedule, year in and year out, is comprised of the teams that SEC teams pad their schedules with. How many national champions do you face each season? In 2007, UGA faced the previous three champs in the same season. Patsy schedules and NCAA sanctions! Please, don’t talk to me about the state of our program.
It’s been a couple of rough years. I hope that Boise comes in thinking this is going to be an easy win.

“Damage for Georgia Tech’s future should be limited”
UGA gets a RB who doesn’t passes his classes and doesn’t pay a parking ticket. one who violates team rules and has a car accident and leaves the scene and another commits a violation unknown (shouldn’t you wait until you know what it is?) and yet the “legacy” of all UGA running backs is in peril?

Jeff – where was the AJC for over 16 months when the NCAA was investigating GT? Why was the story never made public by this media outlet?
The answer is either the staff of the AJC participated in a cover up on behalf of Tech, or the beat writers never, never once, requested via Open Records, any information from GT as regards the NCAA, pending investigations, letters regarding potential investigation, letter regarding violations, etc etc. Which is it? If the staff at the AJC was doing its job when it comes to fair and equal reporting, the GT NCAA story would not have been a shock when it became public. Even the Knoxville paper has done a better, fair and more impartial job as regards Tenn’s NCAA issues than you folks. It’s a good thing the AJC staff isn’t with the Columbus OH newspaper if so the Ohio St mess would still be secret.
Shameful job of reporting by the AJC, or better termed “lack of reporting”. Now here you are deflecting attention to Georgia suspending a 3rd team TB. Got those priorities in line there don’t you big guy?
Maybe you can find the time to explain how it is you guys misses such a “Big Story” locally. Why the Atlanta Journal and Constitition was silent, oblivious to an NCAA inquiry and now probation at Georgia Tech. Stunning.

Thanks to a perfect score of 1,000 for the last academic year, Georgia’s football team posted a multi-year score of 976 was only one point behind Vanderbilt.
Also, the last graduation saw a UGA starter give the commencement speech for the student body!

This one left and this one transferred and this one got upset and left and a former coach was in a Ponzi scheme and another alumni is arrested and an official is caught with red panties and on and on. To JS:
(from Pat Forde): “If you want to know how far the AJC has fallen, lack of reporting on Tech case is a great indicator”
(from thevictoryformation): How did the Media Completely Miss the Ga. Tech Story?
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
This collection of individuals is by far the biggest offender. The AJC sports staff includes Jeff Schultz and Mark Bradley as columnists, Tony Barnhart, Tim Tucker, Ken Sugiura, Doug Roberson, Chip Towers and Bill King as college football bloggers, and Michael Carvell as a recruiting blogger. How did 9 (nine!) people that are assigned to cover college football miss a story like this that was happening in their backyard? Furthermore, former AOL sportswriter Terrence Moore used to be on staff at the AJC (prior to taking a buyout), and was one of the people that convinced Calvin Booker, the former Tech player with sports agency ties mentioned in the NCAA report, to stay at Tech for his senior season under new head coach Paul Johnson. I’m not saying that Moore necessarily knew anything, but he has known Booker personally since Booker’s high school days, and has a personal relationship with him. None of the nine people listed above could pick up a phone and call him, or send him an email? What does the AJC pay their Tech beat bloggers, Sugiura and Roberson for? It’s not exactly news that the AJC staff has been lacking in their reporting. Before his departure for the Orlando Sentinel (to cover Florida State), Coley Harvey was the Tech beat writer for the Macon Telegraph, and he was more of a go to for news and insight than the guys whose offices are a five minute walk from campus. Bryan Fischer made a great point about how this shows just how far the AJC has fallen. Pat Forde agreed. I guess someone out there in twitterland thought that the recently broken Atlanta Public School scandal absolves the AJC of its many sins, but I don’t recall seeing a byline by any of the nine individuals I listed earlier on any of those reports. To give you another example of the rampant incompetence that rules the day at the AJC, check out the fourth paragraph here. The link there takes you to the front page of From The Rumble Seat, the SB Nation blog run by and for Georgia Tech fans (full disclosure: I have written for From The Rumble Seat in the past). Scrolling to the earliest story posted about the investigation, you see a post that was updated multiple times throughout the morning, and while said post does mention Bay Bay Thomas and Morgan Burnett, it does so by displaying a tweet from Zach Klein, the sports director at WSB-TV in Atlanta. I imagine that in the mad rush to put something on AJC.com, the names of the players came up, and somebody asked “where’d you see that?”, and the response was “on some blog”, and they never even bothered to find the actual post, or where the players names originated. That’s just out and out laziness. The AJC should be ashamed of themselves.
I do want to take a moment here and give kudos where they’re due. Zach Klein was in front of this story for the entire day, and had information before anyone else. We need more people like him, and less like the gaggle of incompetents at the AJC.

You UGA fans are hilarious for the most part, most of you have common sense, but some like 2001 are just ignorant.
Claiming other campus police or city police at other institutions are on the take is easy when you live in your mom’s basement and play video games all day. Get some facts.
Jeff wrote a column based on the facts, not one time did he misspeak about those facts. The situation at UGA is unlike any other in the SEC, and there are NCAA investigations going on at 2 of our schools and one is awaiting penalties from their previous coach. The number of players leaving, suspended, flunking out, or being dismissed this far into the summer is unheard of. That is what is the root of this. Players are supposed to responsible student-athletes who are afraid to make poor judgements this close to the season beginning. Look at Arkansas, even Petrino kicked off a player who decided for the second time in a year he would drive drunk. Besides that one we have had less than a half dozen dismissals since spring practice ended and half of those have come from UGA.
The root of the problems with UGA is not the coach, not the school, but with the type of players being brought in to hurry up and right this ship and the changes CMR made during the past off season and those players are now having to live with those changes.
No matter how you spin it, life as a Football Dawg is not good and until a game is played and UGA gets a win against a team that has a winning record, we will continue to view this UGA program as a failure with all the talent that abounds this state.

At other SEC schools, the head coach leaves the dismissals and the perp walks and to the assistants and law enforcement, and this happens only if the player is not on the two-deep. If the player is on the two-deep, then the punishment is doled out in conditioning work on the field, where it helps the team.
These situations are managed. They don’t bark it to the press and they don’t give players free weeks off.

I’m wondering what Boise fans think about their center being 5′11″ 285 going up against our 2 NT’s who are each about 6′5″ 350. And your guards and tackles weight less than our 2 DE’s by about 10-20 lbs as well.
You’ll see 3-4 sets on most plays, but on short yardage you’ll actually see a 4-3 set with 1300 lbs in our 4 DL’s going up against your 1400 lbs in 5 guys on your OL.
We’re going to have 1-2 extra pass rushers on virtually every down in 3-4 because you need 5v3 on the line. This has to be a legitimate concern of yours. I’m not talking smack, I’m actually asking a reasonable question about what you think, because this isn’t going to be as easy as some think it is for Boise.

He reduces the charges as much as he can, and then he gives all of them deferred sentencing until after the upcoming football season is completed. Your program and it’s fans are a joke now, and you always have been.If the D.A. in Gainesville was a fl.state fan, Florida wouldn’t even be able to field a team this fall. For you to come on a rival schools blog and brag about your players and their arrest records truely shows how uneducated you really are. For those who are excited about Samuel coming back…um, they was a reason he got switched to LB. He sucked as an RB. When he found himself in open space, he’d run right towards the closest tackler. It’s like he was already an LB, running as fast as he could to the nearest opposing player. Watch highlights, I’m serious.
We succeed running when pick a guy and ride him all the way, Knowshon, Musa, etc. CMR tries the Florida State thing too much of running back by committee. Doesn’t work most of the time.

UGA is an unknown commodity this year…. as is UF…. South Carolina is grossly underrated. AU is also overlooked. LSU…. we’ll see. Bama is going to be great. UT is also an unknown and potentially a big ugly orange surprise. Arky and Missy State, overlooked by everyone. Ole Miss and KY probably not, but any given Saturday. Then there is Vandy. That raps up the SEC report.
I still say the key to Georgia’s better season will be the D. Look for UGA to miraculously rise to the bottom of the top twenty before playing BSU. A lot will depend on the players not letting that hype go to their heads.

Ealey and King were not all that big. The guys they have now are pretty big, so perhaps their strategy will change. It better, because Boise will win in a cakewalk if they do not run the ball A LOT. Ball control is the only way to beat Boise, because you can COUNT ON Boise scoring at least four TDs, even if UGA’s defense is vastly improved (which it will be).

Boise,
Thanks for your concerns but choose your words carefully. It’s that same passion of football around these parts that can give way to a swift RETURN to being an SEC contender (which makes you a national title contender). I agree the last couple of years were not flukes and more a product of not developing players and bad trends. But I know the previous 6 (2 SEC titles) weren’t either. Do not be shocked if we are ranked in the top 10 after 2 weeks and things are back to normal.
good luck to you as well.

With Washaun and Carlton in the backfield last year against SC, the Dawgs netted 61 yards rushing. I don’t see these guys doing any worse. SC plays the run tough (at least against UGA). They have a solid D that always plays tough against the Dawgs. The differences will be that UGA’s D will be more solid; Murray knows the playbook, and Lattimore will not be a surprise commodity.
SC is a much bigger fish to fry than Boise. Let’s hope an elevated ranking and a win over Boise will not go to the Dawgs’ heads.

UGA_2001- Are you kidding me? Did you not see the article that was all over the news where Chizik asked if the investigation is over yet, & she said when it’s over I’ll let you know. It came for the New York Times, but every other news source reported it to. It was even on the front page of the Solumbus paper down here as well. Besides, you should know that it’s not always public when school is under investigation. GT just got busted, & I don’t think anyone saw that coming.

Chazzo, I’ve feared the same thing. I hate to beat a dead horse, really! Richt has a history of not having his teams ready to play big games. If they beat Boise, and history repeats itself, and we don’t show up against USC, we will get run off the field.
Chuck, of course I remember Knowshon and Musa. A different offensive game plan against Bama and UF in 08 and that season could have been very different, IMO.

Dawg in Lex. You are right, sir. Nice job. Samuel will start, Boo Malcolm will back him up and hopefully Bobo will finally realize that if something works, keep running it until it stops working!!!
He has always caused me to approach apoplexy by running something a time or two if it works, and then going to something else. His reasoning is always ‘we wanted to change before they stopped it.’
Pound Boise, pound it pound it, pound it. Malcolm and Samuel should be able to have three and four yard plays in the first half that turn into seven and eight yarders after three or four quarters.
Crowell? He’s an all time great high school player. AFTER he shows me he can play in the SEC, I’ll get excited.

Coach Richt needs to focus on character and ability with these backs. It didn’t take a brain surgeon to know that Caleb wasn’t going to survive the rigors of college classes. It also didn’t take a football guru to know that he wasn’t a great back. I saw a Buford team shut him down completely in front of Auburn’s head coach his senior year. Turberville left at halftime. I think King had negative 2 yards at that point. C’mon coach…Find us some real talent and some real character along with an academic mind (or at least a teachable mind that can survive a baccalaureate degree.)

Sir Barks a lot,
A little memory recall for you, I know our backs are against the wall but moving Richard Samuel back to RB in IMHO is still a very big mistake and will only hurt the team. The first time around he proved he was not a running back, he has no feel for the position, as he lacked the ability to run where the hole was even when there was a hole he went down on first contact, sometimes with no or only nominal contact. He missed blocks frequently which got our QB either sacked, hit and/or hurried a lot, he fumbled a lot as well. In his defense he did have several good runs one for a TD but if you remember he wasn’t even touched on the play and still almost tripped on his own feet. I do hope and pray that he has learned from his mistakes the first time around and he proves me wrong and provides the Dawgs with much needed leadership at the running back position.

Seems I remember that there was more to Caleb and Washaun being at UGA than Richt not knowing how to recruit (which is a laughable assertion btw). Richt was shooting for the stars with a back he didn’t get. It was tough to attract THE RB when you already had Knowshon.
That being said, King and Ealey did average over 5 yards a carry. They didn’t exactly suck.
Finally, I was a well-behaved, A student from a private school in Central FL and got kicked out of UGA after two years. There is no telling what is going to happen when an 18 year old hits campus.
I just don’t buy some of the arguments here that Richt is somehow a poor recruiter because a couple of players didn’t pan out.

I also don’t buy that Richt is the only coach in history that has recruited players with discipline problems. Look at all those players at UF, smoking pot and using dead girl’s credit cards. Look at Garcia at South Carolina. And the couple of years I was at UGA, I saw what Vince’s players were doing. If you guys are so capable of recruiting a perfect team of incredible athletes who make straight As and never get in trouble, then you should be making millions. Go get a job!

Top 1,000 reasons Boise will crush UGA:
1) QB Kellen Moore ->Best QB in the country
Boise has most All-American than any other team in the country.
2) O-Line-> Tops in the country
3) D-Line-> Tops in the country
4) Doug Martin-> Tops in the country and far better than any UGA RB ezly.
5) Coach-> 2 time Bear Bryant winner(only coach to ever win it twice) Best coach in the country.
6) Boise beats teams better than UGA all season long.
7) Boise likes to crush teams and make them cry at their house in front of their fans.
9) Boise has better players at every single position.
10) Boise doesn’t lose to mediocre teams and rarely loses to great teams.
11) 61-5 record over the last 5 years.
12) Tops the nation in scoring
13) Tops the nation in pts. allowed.
14) etc……. I just don’t have the time to write out all 1,000 but thats a good start.

Pete,
The game is played on the field as you will find out in September. To compare the competition UGA has faced against the Boise competitiion is a stretch at best. Last year Boise beat VA. TECH. Which then promptly went out and lost the following week to a DIV. II school. They followed that up with an 11 game win streak and Boise lost to New Mexico. I think VA. TECH. would have beaten Boise in a rematch. You RB is going to be new, Your Defense is undersized but fast, I will give you that. Your offensive line is on average 35 pounds less than the D line of UGA, so the advantage goes to UGA. You lost your two best WR’s last year, as we did. No proven performers on either side so that is a toss up.
I am sure you think they are invincible, but like I said, the game is played on the field, not in any fan of any teams mind. Maybe you had better wait until after Sept. 3rd, to start polishing your trophy.
By the way, any word yet on the NCAA investigation that has now concluded on Boise, for lack of control. Just the penalty to be found out right?

Whoever is running for UGA: Just hold on with both arms and get 3.5 yards. Wrap it up tight, don’t let it go, and plunge for 3.5 yds. Do that 3x and its a first down. If you can get your feet to the line and fall down, that’s two yards. That means the O-line has to move someone backward 1.5 yards.

REason #14) All of Boise’s players have more playing time than any of Georigas’(Most of Boise’s starters were outta the game by halftime because Boise played teams like Georgia). Boise doesn’t rebuild.
15) Where Boise lost starters, they have players coming in with ample playing time.
16) Boise’s slightly smaller Lines, crushed bigger lines better than Georgia’s, just ask Oregon, VT, TCU, etc………………….
17) etc….. I could go on, but i’m running out of time again.
For the record, Boise lost to Nevada who was 13-1. That Nevada team that Boise lost to, lost to Hawaii and beat Fresno at Fresno by 1 pt.(I think) in the last minute or two of the game. For the record, Boise destroyed Hawaii like 49-7 and destroyed Fresno 51-0. Boise didn’t get up for that game because they became complacent and lost to a inferior but good team. Sorry to tell you, they won’t let that happen again, and sure as hell won’t let some mediocre team from the east do it.
Cheers!

Jeff we (UGA) no longer have our traditional legacy at running back with the the current coaching staff. It has been replaced with a new legacy of infamy that features suspensions, flunk outs, underachievers, overachievers, quitters, prima-donnas/divas and position flip-floppers at the position. The coaching and leadership at the position gets the grade of “I”, for incompetence on and off the field. There is an undercurrent of dissension on this football team and it will continue to reflect in ball games this season as it has all summer. The problem at the root on offense is you have a coach who is in has-been status himself as an evaluator of talent as well as coordinator, turning over the complete offense to a guy who is only an average QB coach, who has no prior experience at any program at any level as an offensive coordinator. The SEC is no place for on the job training at OC if you want to win championships. Then you have an O-line that is thin on depth, that can only hold blocks barely long enough to get passes off. The staff can’t seem to commit to teaching the finesse O-line to execute hard nosed, smashmouthed, sustained run blocks to pave routes for the running game. That’s right UGA is soft offensively, which is reflective of the mentality of the ”you betta not curse at ‘em” mentality of the coaching staff. Was Thomas suspended because Richt caught him cussin’ red-handed !!? LOL. Next the #2 recruiting program the past ten years, has recently brought in highly recruited prima-donnas and divas that are soft guys that lack the hardcore mentality needed to be a respected SEC running back. But what else would you expect to come to play “RB” at UGA, with the current crew running the offense. We will never see another traditional UGA RB as the past greats playing in this offense, because this offense is not geared to run the football and a truly talented big time back would & should avoid this offense like the plague. Thus no tears were shed when WE & CK left because they were just fumblers & cancers recruited by CMR. The current UGA offense is set up to feature the short passing game of the Richt/Bobo braintrust, who see only themselves in the overachieving and overrated QBs they play political games to name the starter. Because of the established mediocrity that exists at UGA, I would not be suprised to see the team perform poorly (as they always do in Jacksonville) throughout another long disappointing season. I hope I’m wrong, but here’s some advice to CMR since he has virtually eliminated the running attack at UGA. Get Bobo to get Lemay plenty of reps besides Murray because without a solid O-line and ground game with blocking RBs, the starting QB is going down and going down hard !! When AM gets knocked out, CL can come in and lead the offense. So don’t worry about the RBs now CMR, because you never have worried about establishing the run to pass. But you better have the best no.2 & 3 QBs ready when the time comes. Believe it, that time is coming real soon. Wake up, delusional UGa fans and CMR staff the job make or break player on offense won’t be a RB. It maybe whoever survives playing QB.

The Dawgs losing some running backs off the current team has nothing to do with its legacy. For you to even mention such is absolute lunacy. You can never take away what UGA’s great running backs have accomplished. We’re excited abourt the new RBs coming in. Once again JS you are showing your lack of knowledge (or maybe it is your lack of caring) about the college game. King Gator, What a stupid comment. Last year’s game against UCF was at the end of a disappointing season — UGA played lackluster the whole game and lost as a result. They didn’t show any fight or motivation (that was the biggest disappointment with last year’s team). Don’t you think the circumstances are a little different starting the season against Boise in the Kick-off Classic? They are a LOT different. Fopr you to make such a comparison is completely asinine.
