Georgia’s Crumley is possible AD candidate at Tennessee (UPDATED)

(Updated at 12:30 with comments from Crumley)

Frank Crumley, who spent nearly two months trying to calm the seas at Georgia following the Damon Evans fiasco, may be on the list for a more permanent fix-it job in Tennessee.

While this hardly qualifies as official interest by Tennessee, the Knoxville News Sentinel has listed Crumley, Georgia’s executive associate athletic director, as a potential candidate for the Volunteers’ vacated A.D. job. Mike Hamilton not surprisingly resigned from the position on Tuesday, just days before Tennessee is scheduled to meet with the NCAA’s Committee on Infractions to face potential violations in football and basketball.

The newspaper listed seven candidates within the SEC while acknowledging that “the search will extend nationwide.” Crumley has been Georgia’s associated AD for finance and business since 2007. He was the interim replacement for Evans from July 5 to Aug. 31 in 2010 and was praised for the job he did following Evans’ resignation for a DUI arrest in Buckhead.

Whoever gets the Tennessee job will be stepping into an inferno and possibly inheriting probation in the two major revenue-producing sports. But Tennessee also has one of the larger athletic budgets in the country, top facilities and competes in the SEC, so it’s viewed as one of the premier jobs.

UPDATE:

Crumley said he was not aware that he was named as a potential candidate, and it follows that he hasn’t been contacted. But he affirmed that anybody in his position would be interested in a job like that.

“Any job in the SEC would be a great job to have, but I have a great job right now,” he said. “They’re going to get some great candidates. Tennessee is probably at around $100 million [with their athletic budget], and we’re at $89 million. Part of that is because their stadium is so big. Texas, Ohio State and Tennessee are at the top.”

Crumley said he was not a candidate for the Georgia job before Greg McGarity was hired as Evans’ replacement.

“Dr. Adams told me up front that his goal was to look outside first and if he didn’t find somebody, then he would include internal candidates,” he said.

Crumley would be a great hire for UT. He is knowledgeable and has a cool head under pressure. Great loss to UGA if he goes but money talks.

Crumley is used to cleaning up dog poop at UGA so he might just be the man to clean up the Smokey poop at UT.

Why do I even bother checking the ajc twice weekly? I can’t remember the last time they reported something I didn’t read elsewhere hours earlier. There are always the same idiots posting the same moronic comments (red panties, Richt more losses each year last 3, start 0-2 Richt gone, bama cheats but we win so hurray blah blah blah)

The hometown paper for the Falcons has an idiot as the beat reporter who can’t even write well enough to garner 50 comments on his blog weekly. The UGA beat reporter is more interested in his ohio state loveing pal ledbetter than he is in UGA.

Shultz and Bradley are ok but 1 good article a week between the 2 of them isn’t worth putting up with all the morons who live on the ajc blogs.

Dave O’Brien is the sole bright spot and only professional on the whole staff.

You must be young or don’t remember when Herschel Walker showed up with a brand new Trans AM and his sister got a track scholarship the year before. Herschel was 1 of 8 children from a very poor family, but some how he had a Brand New Most Popular Car to go to college in.
REDNECK CAR? You must not remember the 60’s & 70’s muscle cars that most of America wanted until the Gas Crisis and Jimmy Carter hit.

The TransAMs were for the ‘necks with money (like the one given to Herschel).

The jacked up Chevelle SS and Ford Torino were primary cars driven by the rest of the Athens ‘necks back in the day.

You can still see some of these cars around Athens, usually rusted out with primer paint jobs.

First the AJC tries to fan the flames by insinuating that DRad (GA Tech’s AD) would be a candidate for the Tennessee position and now Crumley. I guess they are really antsy for getting hits on their sites with all of the collegiate sports wound down before the kids report for practice and recruiting is only starting to really get cranked up now…

You want to go back five years ago to the La Monroe loss? I really don’t think you want to compare Bama’s past with whom ever your team might be.

You are correct that Saban will probably get Bama in trouble just like he did when he was HC at Toledo, Michigan St and LSU…..oh I just remembered that has never happened.

I also would like to know who is letting you about Saban making his coaches do the dirty work. I guess it is the unknown “they”. As far as I can tell the ones leaving have had good things to say about our coaches. Most of them just see they will not have playing time at Bama.

5150, We need rain badly in Southwest Ga. Only a half an inch or so in over 90 days, and temps in the high 90s and 100s. A farmer friend of mine told me that if he didn’t get a good rain in June he would probably shut down his irrgation systems. High diesel and power bills and shrinking water supplies and a heat damaged crop with low yields make for a tough financial situation. He is an AU grad but a good friend and I can tell the stress is getting to him. Some things are more important than what team a guy roots for. Y’all say a prayer for him and the rest of us down here.

UGA the best team in American from Feb until August. I know because I read it here each and every year! Nick Saban is going to kick your azz and everyone else year after year. Nick doesn’t cheat because he doesn’t have to too. He will outwork your lazy azz Richt just like he did Fulmer,Tubbs and Meyer. The guy actually loves recruiting where most of the others hate it and that makes a big difference. You guys keep on throwing rocks at him though because it makes you feel better and Lord knows you UGA fans need to feel good about something.

Neither of them have a track record of success.

Crumley would be a good hire for the snakepit in Knoxville. I don’t see Dooley lasting another 2 years. The fans there are nuts and will run him off because he will not be able to recruit and win. UT will now get payback for all the assaults and poor sportsmanship at their stadium. I had friends who used to visit all away games never had any trouble or were assaulted anywhere but Knoxville.

Why don’t you all comment more on your own blogs and articles about tech. when they are on the AJC? You spend more time spouting stupid crap on the UGA blog than you do on your own. GT,

The answer is quite simple GT, it is football, not my whole life. It would be nice to come and read these blogs and not see them become a a childish bunch of stupid comments against other teams though. You give respect where it is due, and Alabama has built quite a program up, whether anybody likes it or not. Doesn’t mean I like them, just that I recognize that they are pretty darn good and deserve the Kudos.
As for being hungover, I don’t drink. If there is not much to hate about UGA from a tech. point of view these days, I suggest you read the blogs on AJC, since enough of your loyal fans, seem to delight in coming onto AJC blogs and spewing a bunch of crap and childish comments.

Well, no matter what, UT is going to have the hammer drop down on them from NCAA. I think they should put Pat Summitt sp? in charge. She has had no issues, bleeds orange and white, and takes no crap. I couldnt see her trying to cover up for anybody at any time. If not her go completely out of the box and bring somebody in that knows how to control their staff, and deal with rule breakers swiftly and harsh. Any person coming to the school breaks an NCAA rule, your gone, no questions it just that easy. Hell bring in somebody from West Point.

IARS you took a shot at Bama, didn’t sound like much respect there to me, but then I do drink so perhaps my perception of reality is dim. As for a “bunch of crap” from Tech bloggers it is a bite like Spurrier and Fulmer. The old ball coach just can’t help himself, Fulmer, the pumpkin, just makes it to easy.
