Digi-Blog goes to Falcons camp (no Flowery Branches)

photographerFLOWERY BRANCH — The Digi-Blog hasn’t ventured into cold weather before. But given we’re in Snowmaggedon 2011, I figured: “Why not?” And how ironic is it that the week the Falcons play the Green Bay Packers — who are used to this sort of thing — the Falcons’ practice fields are under snow?

All the Falcons’ players and coaches made it to today, but 0n Monday running back Antone Smith was a no-show. “He said he couldn’t make it out of his neighborhood,” running back Michael Turner said. “Something like he was the first one on the street and it was it was all ice. He gave some war story. So we had to fine him a little bit.”

I’m still looking for Ledbetter. He must have some war story, too.

(UPDATE: Falcons coach Mike Smith said there actually were two players who didn’t make it to Flowery Branch Monday and one Tuesday. Cornerback Dominique Franks could not make it out of his subdivision Tuesday. Also, I just spoke to Ledbetter. He said the weather has not affected his wine and cheese party.)

OK, here we go . . .

birdsI left my little house in North Fulton — where I’m out of seed — and headed north. Way north. Why did the Falcons have to put their practice facility near Chattanooga?

plowAs it turns out, Arthur Blank can afford his own snowplows — and people to drive the snowplows.

Even the flags look cold.

Even the flags look cold.

signI’m pretty sure this is the first time they had to use this sign.

twofieldsThe evidence that there’s two practice fields over here are the two goal posts at the opposite end.

facilityIf you’re looking for the players, they’re inside that building, straight ahead. Fake grass but no snow.

footstepsI can verify from these footprints that at least one employee decided to sleep in the dorms. Either that or there are spies afoot.

packersThis is a familiar sight if you’re the Green Bay Packers.

coachesYou’ll be happy to know that Mike Smith and his coaching staff made it.

hydrantThere’s a good chance we won’t be needing this today.

ledbetterJust for the record, if you’re ranking the toughness of AJC writers, here’s Ledbetter’s chair.

Jeff, how much use does that outdoor practice field get in the cold weather anyway? Even when it’s not snowing, it seems it wouldn’t be an accurate way to simulate gameday conditions when we play at home, right?

Let’s be fair, here. That’s no snow plow.

These are snow plows: http://colledun.com/gallery/albums/TowPlow/TowPlow.sized.jpg

Just think. If we had some of these in Atlanta, many of us would actually be at work today.

great job Jeff… late word on ESPN is that the national media even favors Green Bay’s snow over Atlanta’s. Dang national media gives us no love

Why did the Falcons have to put their practice facility near Chattanooga?

Jeff, Dude, the Falcons training facility is northeast of Atlanta; Chattanooga is northwest of Atlanta.

Just be thankful Atlanta did not get 24 wet inches of snow and a collapsed dome roof. Could have happened.

A Clusters wouldn’t let a little snow stop us, either, Jeff. It is good to see you out and about. Why didn’t somebody warn us about all this snow? If you see Mr Blank remind him to wear a muffler around his neck in this cold weather.

Watched the Falcons/Packers from 7 weeks ago on NFL Network last night. The Packers never led in that game, and our D is better now. Not sure why the national media favors the Packers.

While our players get ready to face Green Bay:

The Saints are planning for next year

Vick spent an hour in the VIP room of a Philly strip club with 2 girls. They were playing cards right MV7????

Don’t blow it Falcons! Much better opportunity than 1998(which honestly was kind of a fluke).

Ha ha, because they all live in N. Fulton, Gwinnett, and in Hall County! They only care about “Atlanta” 8 weekends a year… I don’t count those overpriced exhibitions…

To hear the national media tell it Aaron Rodgers is the 2nd coming of Joe Montana and the Packers have found a running game with James Starks that rivals the best rushing attacks in NFL history. The fact of the matter is that Rodgers won his 1st playoff game essentially because Mike Vick threw a pick in the endzone with 33 seconds left and Akers missed 2 field goals. Matt Ryan is just as capable of leading the Falcons to victory as Rodgers. In the first meeting on Thanksgiving weekend Rodgers was actually Green Bays leading rusher. Since that time the Falcons defense has improved and the secondary which was at time faulty has become very opportunistic in getting turnovers. I think the Falcons will beat the Packers by throwing the ball and utilizing the no huddle which Matt Ryan runs to perfection and limiting the effects of Aaron Rodgers by getting to him with pressure from the defensive line. Go Falcons!!!

Jeff there is not a single word about the Falcons ANYWHERE on the net – nothing – why don’t you Atlanta media types generate some buzz? The team needs some buzz to get hyped up. Just seen on ESPN – “Bears Packers Champ Game Likely” – tell it to the odds makers, the Falcons are favored, so it’s just BS.
