I have been a supporter of richts for the last two years when all my friends said he had lost it turns out they were right and I was wrong. I am sad to say it but Richt must go he has lost his mojo and I see no way he can get it back. I am not saying this because they lost to a high school team tonight I am saying it based on the last two years work as a whole. I am now afraid that richts last year which will be next year will destroy the program beyond repair.

I believe him! I am a Richt loyalist. Just not sure who will fix it. Bobo left an egg on the field. There was no tackling. It looked like, for you younger guys, UGA vs Wake Forrest back in the 77 or 79 season. How can that line not block that defense. How can all of these NFL bound players not make bigger plays. Brandon Boykin can’t tackle. Sturdivant can’t block. It looks like Green can’t catch as he dropped a couple or crucial easy catches. Worst offensive game plan a UGA team has ever had as long as I remember. In all honesty, the defense looked decent again. Play calling sucked. So here again is what I state. There are three parts of this, planning, preparation, execution. Tonight we missed on all three.

I admire CMR as a man but his time at UGA needs to end. Please Greg, do not extend this another year. We have second tier players and third tier coaches and first tier committmenst in facilities and salaries/budgets.
Extending this another year is just postponing the inevitable and that is not good for UGA and all the other sports programs.
It’s a hard decision but a total change is absolutely necessary. I trust you see it the same way.

Nick Fairley, does that make BYU an elite program, UT, FSU, Miami. Auburn won a NC in 1957 but had to forfeit it due to NCAA violations, which included paying players. HMMMM sounds familiar. Who is worse off? Tech has a 55,000 seat stadium and ends of 6-7? Muttland has a 92,000 seat stadium and finishes 6-7. Face it Muttlanders, the only thing that has kept Richt around is his domination of Tech. But the fact of the mattter in the 10 games Georgia has played against Tech, Tech should have won in 2004, 2005, 2006, 2009, and 2010. In 2007, Richt benefited by three touchbacks that should have gone Tech’s way and in 2008, Tech won.

First off, I agree that Mark Richt should have been fired long ago. Not because of the teams record but because there is no discipline in the Georgia athletic program. He lost control of the team and its brand and mission long ago. I fault the University for not stepping in and making the right decisions. They are obviously complicit and incompetent in this whole matter. As for the game, they were outplayed by a better team. UCF has an outstanding program so those of you who think that Ga. should win by default because they are in the SEC, you are dead wrong. The world has changed. There are great teams all over this country, regardless of conference. So, get over it. UCF is as quality a team and program as Georgia. There is nothing special at Georgia anymore. That special quality has to be earned again in the future. It starts with getting rid of Richt and starting over and the whole athletic (and perhaps administrative) infrastructure.

Bulldog fans can always relish their annual victory over Tech, which by design is a “gimme” game. Tech cannot compete on the recruiting field. Georgia has the pick of the litter (pun intended) in a state that worships high school football. Why then, with year after year of elite talent, doesn’t Georgia have a fistful of NCs by now? Who would have predicted that Auburn would have more victories this year than Tech and Georgia combined?

Georgia can gloat all it wants about beating Tech every year, but deep down, they must know it is a hollow victory. All that talent….

I didn’t think I ever would come to say this but it is past time to get a new coach. As long as Richt is head coach, Georgia will never win a national championship or even an SEC or SEC East title. South Carolina is ascending and Jeff Garcia and Marcus Lattimore will be returning next year. Dooley should have Tennessee improving next year. Of course there is always Florida. They don’t rebuild, they reload. As for the Richt defenders (if there are any left) I hope you are happy with the 6-7 record and potentially a 4-8 record next year. I don’t see it getting better anytime soon with the coaching staff we have. UCF wanted this game more than UGA did. Until McGarity decides to demand immediate changes, I will devote my time to following Georgia State, Georgia Southern, and high school teams who show more passion and desire than Georgia did this season.

Randy , Murray did not help us tonight but has been steady this year. This was an offense handicapped by Bobo looking at statistics to determine what play to call. Maybe Murray had been hearing too much from the press all week about the QB records he could have broken today but didn’t.

There is one man to blame, and that is Coach Richt. Either is schemes or the players he has recruited are not up to SEC championship caliber.

He is 2-8 vs. Florida. That should be enough for dismissal. You MUST beat Florida to win the SEC East, history tells us that much, and this man simply has no clue.

Coach Richt has no passion, no fire, no leadership qualities. He is regularly outsmarted by coaches that are his junior in the SEC. When’s the last time Georgia faked a punt? When’s the last time Georgia caught an opponent off guard with a reverse or an on-side kick?

Coach Richt couldn’t see that his team could not stop the offenses of Auburn and GT? If I were him I would have on side kicked every time after a UGA touchdown. Heck, you only need to get one of them to keep the other team at bay. Dropping the pooch against GT to kick off the game? Really? You couldn’t see that coming after Auburn suckered you on an onside kick to start the 2nd half? You really thought GT was going to kick it deep to #2?

Tonight’s game was an absolute disgrace and has rendered UGA irrelevant on the college football landscape. To not go for it on 4th and inches after moving the ball 96 yards….you just told your offense you don’t believe in them. You should be coaching as if this game means something, call out all the stops, because you are coaching for your job. Tonight was a must win game for Richt. Every game he coaches from here on out is a must win. He just doesn’t coach that way. He coaches like he’s coaching 10 year old girl soccer on Sunday afternoons. No sense of urgency.

If McGarrity allows this to continue he will also become irrelevant. After awhile, players and fan bases just simply tune you out.

Richt couldn’t beat year 1 coach Mullen at MSU and his year one DC Diaz. How the heck do you think Richt will fare against Muschamp and Charlie Weis next fall?

The only way anyone can make a difference with regard to getting a coaching change….don’t cry, don’t moan, don’t whine. Just stop going to games. Stop spending money in downtown Athens on gamedays. Stop buying UGA merchandise. Can you imagine if the first home game next year only had 45,000 people in the stands? The University Bookstore and merchants in town will chase Richt out of town themselves. This is how we can make a difference. Don’t drop any $$$$ on UGA football.

As far as the Dream Team, are you kidding me? Why would any of these kids want to come play for Richt? You mean I can choose between Saban, Gainesville, Tallahassee, Spurrier, etc. etc. and you want me to sign with the wet blanket in Athens? Yeah, don’t think so.

What’s McGarrity waiting for? 3-9? 2-10? If that happens, he’s gone too. If he’s smart, and most tennis players are, he will move Coach Richt out of Athens tonight.

I’m in sales. And what I know is this…if I am giving 13 clients to sell to, and I only sell to 6 and miss out on 7, I’m not getting paid 3 million. I will be getting $405 a week because that’s about what unemployment pays when you work for a boss who will hold you accountable.

It should really come as no surprise that this season was well below mediocre for the Bulldogs. They have all the potential in the world and should most definitely perform much better than they actually do but they play with no fire and no intensity. They are pretty much a mirror image of their head coach.

UGA does not have a lot of toughness on the field…I see only 3 or 4 players they field out of 22 ( add the 2 kickers, they are great!) that are worthy of mention…Two of them, Houston and Green, will certainly leave for the NFL…..
The talent pool at UGA right now is a fair indicator of their record…Which is to say not very good!

Mark Richt refuses to run the football. When he had cerebral guys (from Georgia) at quarterback like David Greene and DJ Shockley they would check to running plays. Georgia has become a program that only passes. Think about the top players in the Red & Black over the past few years. They are a passing team in the SEC and the results speak for themselves. Looking at what Richt has made our program makes it obvious that he has to go.

Getting the ball on the two yard line and driving 96 yards to the UCF two line line to kick a field goal told me two things, Mark Richt was still the coach and we were going to lose this game. Go figure! I was never one to jump on the bandwagon to fire Richt but look at the tallent that has regressed after coming to UGA. It’s a wonder we can even get a kid to sign anymore. Three and four star players don’t get better at UGA the get worse. Joe Cox and Logan Gray are prime examples and Nick Williams who was a four star player is looking asking about transferring. Our O line is a joke and our defense could not stop the Bad News Bears. CMR is a nice guy but maybe he should look at some of the openings and be pro-active before the hatchet comes down.

Coffee Bluff Dog, you are fighting an in-state rival who has one hand tied behind their back. Alabama/Auburn, FSU/Florida, USC/Clemson all have similar recruiting pools to compete over. Remember when it was FSU then Miami then Florida playing for NCs. Last year Alabama, this year Auburn. With the talent Georgia is able to stockpile every year, there is simply no excuse. All I’m saying is the Tech game should be a distraction to Georgia’s march to a BCS title, not the main focus of your season (i.e. the last game to save another disappointing season). Georgia has simply too much talent for Tech – - every year. Bragging and gloating about beating them is like the high school bully bragging about beating up the nerd at recess.

Oh, and by the way, Florida will beat Georgia again next year.

Great post. I was waiting all year for an end around play to Logan Gray(former QB) and then let him pull up at the last second and throw a deep pass to AJ down the field. Never happened.

We don’t have a trick play in the playbook. No, you can’t win every game with a trick play, but you might win one! Like you pointed out, that onside kick by Auburn really turned that game around.

And here is the funny part about that onside kick. My brother called me at halftime and predicted Auburn would do that to start the 2nd half. If we sitting at home can see that coming, why can’t Richt and his bunch of clowns see that coming??

Richt had his chance to turn things around, this year and last. We have gone from 10 wins to 8 to 6. Anybody on here want to take bets on more than 4 next year (Coastal Carolina, Ole Miss, Vanderbilt, and New Mexico State maybe). UGA has done less with more than any team I can think of. Spurrier was right, we get the players I just don’t know what happens when they get to Athens. Richt has to go.

Richt should get a chance, but he has to send BOBO to the High School coaching ranks. Richt has to open all positions to all players. No playing FAVORITES any more. Murray won games against teams that had losing records. He looked great at times but not when it was time to finish the drill. The O-line coach needs to be replaced. The O-line was supposed to be a strength and Well did you see the game tonight? Enough said on that.

Losing to UCF (or any C-USA team) is unacceptable. I say give Richt one more year, but anything short of 9-3 and he’s gone.

I think Mark Richt is a good coach, and an even better man. But he doesn’t have this program where it needs to be. One losing season doesn’t mean he need to go. He’s earned the chance to fix this. That said, if he can’t get it done in 2011, it’s time for a change.

I would rather have a good man who recruits and coaches the right way than someone who breaks rules and wins with a bunch of felons, but this year UGA had eleven (!) players arrested. This is your last chance, Coach Richt. Fix it, or else.

I am a long time UGA fan, but I am also a realist and I do know that Georgia is not an elite program. We want to be but we aren’t and we aren’t gonna get there with Richt. But I do have say the”Nick Farley Scare’s Dawg Fan” earlier that said the elite programs were Alabama, USC, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, and Nebraska? Notre Dame? are you serious? When is the last time Notre Dame won anything in Football? When is the last time Nebraska won anything? I agree Alabama is an elite program. Alabama and Florida have set the standard for what is elite in the SEC and the whole coiuntry for that matter. Georgia, alhough I love em, will never be an elite program until we hire an elite coach an elite staff that knows not only how to recruit elite players but to make them better.

When we didnt go for it on the opening drive, it told me we were not playing to win, we were just playing not to lose. That is the mentality that Richt is coaching with and it will cost him his job.

CMR says that changes have to be made, but you have to give Grantham at least next year to turn things around and we were not blown out in any game and could have won all but 2 of the games. So if Grantham is safe then that only leaves Bobo. If UGA doesn’t have a a new offensive coordinator next year then all what CMR said is just a bunch of big talk and no real change is coming.We will see..
I have alway’s been a big supporter of CMR but I hope McGarity will make sure that we have some serious changes for next year because the dumbest football fan can see that the current status quo isn’t getting the job done and if we have the same coaches next year we will get close to the same results. You can’t lose the skill players that we are going to lose and improve unless a lot of changes occur.

Jeff – you can act like Conf-USA is high school level if you want, but send some of the BCS boys on the road to C-USA without their BCS zebras and you’ll discover they can play big boy football. UCF has talent and a good team, period.

That said – O’Leary is a better coach than Richt, but he’s a better coach than most. UCF is going to get even better.

Richt’s problem is the age old ABAC-North problem. They recruit great athletes – with no regard for anything else…. Hence a 6-7 team full of THUGS.

He is glad to be middle of the road…has shown no passion to win…does not take charge when necessary…his assistants at time have looked good and other times they are completely lost…main issue is that he does not have the will to win..the passion..the dedication…the desire…the ambition…he had these things earlier in his career, but now it is clearly over…maybe 2-3 years off will help him re-kindle his vision for greatness…but this can not occur at the expense of the UGA program…you are right, we are doomed to a below average SEC team under Ritch…I see no reason to buy tickets, hope in the dawgs or believe things will get better…today’s loss is certainly one of the low points in UGA history.

The only thing that has scared me about the FSU team is how much the BALL Tackle. If they don’t rip the ball out the player could get away and run, but it has worked tonight. FSU has caused fumbles and INTS. I can’t believe Spurrior didn’t pull Garcia. I said he waould get killed, but HELL both teams are HITTING DAMN HARD.

JB: I agree with you that CMR has to go. But he wasn’t a “no-name” assistant when he left FSU for Georgia. In fact, had Butch Davis not screwed Miami, then left for the Browns– CMR would have taken that job. Two things would have happened: Miami would be in the same awful situation today they are in– and Will Muschamp or Kirby Smart would already be the Dawgs’ coach– and we might be headed to a BCS title game.

Does any of the real Dawg fans really think we are still in the upper tier of the SEC. This year is one of the worst performing teams I have ever seen at UGA and I went there and graduated in the middle 70’s. Unless some serious changes are made we are destined to lose 5 or more games every year. I didn’t see any dominance this year at all. I hope that CMR will give LeMay a legitimate chance to play QB next year along with Murray because as bad as Murray wan’t to be great and win he definitely has limitations.

I’ve never posted before–I can’t help but do so now. Jeff, your article is the exact message that I’ve been reciting for two years. There is no reason to bring CMR back next year. He’s a great man who has lost his way. I admire him for many reasons but the program, the university and the fans have suffered because of his lack of direction. If you are not progressing in the SEC then you are backing up and we have been backing up for over three years. Losing is contagious and the more you settle for it the more it becomes habit and excusable. Excuses are for losers.
Losing in a championship game will hurt your pride but can be tolerated if the program direction is strong. Losing to Conference USA should never be tolerated. It’s ultimately indicative of what we all have felt and now known in our gut for the past three years: the program direction is in disarray and THAT should get CMR fired. This issue is systemic. CMR’s been given more than enough time to make substantive changes. No more excuses.

Figure it out: Richt will remain in Athens as long as UGA keeps paying him millions of dollars a year with absolutely no performance requirements. Any coach with any ethics at all would resign, but Richt is there for the money, so he’s not going anywhere.

Which makes him exactly the same as Pay Day Green, except that Green is leaving for the money.

It’s gonna be a long year for CMR and UGA and that is unacceptable and embarrassing. The 5 Star recruits will not be coming due to the speculation on the job’s of the coaching staff. Never, ever should a program that has the resouces that UGA has lose to the Conference USA(no disrespect). UGA should not have to be in a position to go to the Liberty Bowl. Go Dawgs and win some games!!

Everyone seems to be blaming the COACHES for the loss today. The COACHES are not on the field tackeling, executing plays etc-THE PLAYERS ARE! As for the field goal call-3 points is 3 points and pretty much a sure thing-what would you have said if THE COACHES had gone for the touchdown and failed? WHY DIDN’T HE KICK A FIELD GOAL. The players have to execute the plays-not miss tackles-not catch balls etc. Your FRESHMAN Quarterbck did good for never having played in a Bowl atomshpere before. You can only COACH so much and the PLAYERS have to do the rest. I know-I am a GATOR fan and I do feel your disappointment with this SEASON. Our players failed to tackle etc and we have a QUARTERBACK who would rather SLIDE than take a hit-yet expect the OFFENSIVE LINE to protect him -give their all for the play etc.-he slides down. I would personally have a hard time with protecting someone who is not willing to do what it takes to make the play. BEST OF LUCK NEXT YEAR-SEE YOU IN JACKSONVILLE!

Folks, you can analyze why UGA is atrocious in all aspects of the game until the cows come home. Bottom line is that Richt has pulled a giant scam on the Bulldog Nation. You see, he has never been what he appeared to be. And those in the Bulldog Nation who accepted his lame stories year after year and defend him today and apologize for him need to go to a sex counselor for latent homosexual tendancies. If you defend Richt, you are a loser and you are an enabler to the sorry state of football that we find ourselves in today. For those of you who fret about who could possibly replace Richt, I say almost anyone could do a better job than the status quo and current downward trends in every single aspect of the program. We need to do a nationwide seach for a PROVEN head coach, preferably with absolutlely NO TIES TO THE UGA FOOTALL MAFIA which has treaded on the plentiful quality of recruits since the days of Wally Butts. We need to get our wallets our like Alabama and Florida and PAY FOR THE BEST. If we do this, we will win championships within three years and get a handsome return on our investment. The UGA football program is a veritable gold mine but ONLY IF IT WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS.
We don’t need a nice Christian man, we need a demanding head coach. Go to church and talk to the preacher if you’re looking for the nice Christian man. The coach has to have ENERGY on the field. He has to have PASSION. He needs to DEMAND EXCELLENCE. Richt does none of these things and never has. The only excellence he enjoys is on his THREE MILLION DOLLAR PER YEAR CHECKBOOK. This is unearned income and the GBI should confiscate it when he is fired.

I have been a huge Richt supporter, but now I just cannot fathom how ANYBODY can think he deserves another season. Just look at how the program has been steadily going downhill the last few seasons. I wish he would “man up” and resign. If not, come on McGarity, do your job, fire Richt, and get us a coach who can get the program back on the right track.

Maybe, if the UGA AA plays their cards right, Conference USA will invite the dogs to join their Eastern Division. It’ll be tough. A step up in competition. CUSA has already won two bowl games, which is two more than the mighty SEC, which just fell to 0-3. After all, East Carolina is stuck way out there by themselves; they need a rival that’s not more than 500 miles away. Sure would be nice to tie the Peach State into CUSA….bring some balance.
