Tucker Carlson.

Michael Vick.
I write this knowing that the last thing anybody wants — least of all me — is to rehash Michael Vick’s history of dog fighting. But this seems worth mentioning: A commentator for Fox News (”fair and balanced”) just declared that Vick should be executed.
Tucker Carlson, filling in for Sean Hannity on Fox News, was addressing reports that President Obama phoned Philadelphia Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie to congratulate him for giving Vick a second chance in the NFL. Carlson went off on a rant and punctuated his remarks by declaring, “I think personally he should’ve been executed for that.”
Wow. And he said this even BEFORE the Eagles were upset by Minnesota Tuesday night. What would Carlson do to Vick now?
Here’s the video:
Once more, this time with feeling: Vick served his time for his crimes and has the right to earn a living. Anybody who chooses to boo or criticize him as a result of his past is completely within their rights. But I’m certain declaring on a national news broadcast that somebody should be executed probably is over the journalistic line.
Then again, I’m not completely familiar with Fox’s “fair and balanced” standards.

Why do you care Jeff? I watch several news outlets and Fox is by far the best. Didn’t this Tucker guy recently leave Cnn? And why can’t he have an opinion. Oh that’s right. Liberals like you are only for free speech if it jives with your beliefs. Personally I think he should have been locked up for life. I guess schultz hates dogs too.

@ Dog Lover… Vick is a criminal. However, he paid his time and did deserve a 2nd chance. I think that so far he is making the best of his 2nd chance and I hope he can stay on this path. By the way… you saying that Obama is a racist makes you look stupid (and yes I’m a republican). And to all the Vick fans that claim they are Falcons fans… Please pick a side and don’t wear your Vick jerseys to the Falcons games. I loved Vick when he was here and I enjoy watching him play, but he’s NOT a Falcon anymore… GET OVER IT AND MOVE ON!

I don’t think Carlson is considered an “anchor.” He’s an opinion guy, like Bookman and Tucker only a little farther to the right (ha). Shepherd Smith and Bret Beyer are the “anchors.” I think.

Dog Lover…do you feel the same way about Sarah Palin? This is just another example of the Fox News anti-Obama slant. Sarah Palin can kill all the moose she wants and you and Carlson obviously have no issue with it.

Let me just add that I hate what Vick did, but he paid his debt to society and people need to get over it whether they like the outcome or not. No one would have cared if he was working at a fast-food joint; what bothers people is that he has made the most of this opprortunity and now stands to make millions again.

Tough Nolla Guy…you said ‘you don’t know the meaning of the word sociopath. dogfighting was acceptable in his community so he is not a sociopath.’
Go educate yourself. Google DSM-IV for the signs of a sociopath and he fits most of them. As for that tired argument about how it’s okay because it’s what was done in the black community, get real. I have plenty of friends who happen to be black, own pitbulls and wouldn’t dream of fighting them. There is a very, very thin line between animal abuse and child/spousal abuse. This has been documented.
I don’t think MV should be executed, but I also don’t believe that he should have so easily slid back into an easy life. Let him live the life of a true ex-con and see how that feels.
When the Eagles lose, and I hope they do, sad to say, I hope that my city’s ‘love affair’ with MV will end, as it’s a sad commentary on stardom, and money.

# 1 — your reference that Tucker Carlson was filling in for Hannity on “Fox News” is misleading and hardly accurate. Sean Hannity’s show is not a news show and never has been. It’s commentary. As for it being balanced, it’s a heckuvalot more balanced than any of its counterparts on CNN or MSNBC. Balanced (IMO) means you have guests from both sides offering their respective views or opinions. How many times do you see that done in the liberal media? Do you see a lot of conservatives on Chris Matthews’ show? Nope.
#2 – While execution would indeed be a harsh punishment, I imagine Tucker was merely using hyperbole to express his views (and over all disgust) regarding Michael Vick. I agree that Vick is total garbage and concur that any amount of *time served* or recompense/rehab will ever correct what are obviously serious character flaws. The man even got enjoyment from throwing his own family pets in the fighting ring, getting his thrills from watching them get ripped apart. Do you really think any amount of community service changes that type of individual? Don’t kid yourselves. Mike Vick is sorry he was caught and not sorry for what he did.
#3 – Jeff, while you moan and groan about bias, your article here is just as biased. UN-biased reporting means the reader never knows how the writer feels about his subject matter. How YOU feel about your material is blatantaly obvious.
Biased is as biased does.

Clearly he misspoke. No one is that idiotic. Vick paid his dues for a lesser crime than that of Ray Lewis and yet he continues to be vilified.
The Vick situation has taken on a life of its own. There is that odd growing movement that feels the Falcons turned their backs on Vick and they look forward to him returning to the Dome to gain revenge. Those believers fail to understand it was Vick who turned away from the Falcons.

In sports if you have a special talent you will always find a job, it’s about winning, that’s it, nothing else. Vick makes money for the Eagles, it’s a simple as that.
Obama calling the Eagles owner and congratulating him for hiring a dog killer probably wasn’t a good move for the leader of our nation and politically it looks like this will back fire in a major way.
I like Vick as a football player, who can deny his talents, however I think this is a case where most people either brush it off their shoulders or don’t know the truth. You can easily find the court documents that detail the crimes Vick committed. When you find that Vick broke the necks of dogs and electricuted them in bathtubs I think better perspective. Not many people are capable killing a dog with their own bare hands, sounds disgusting.
I don’t mind that Vick got a second chance and I find myself rooting for him on the football field, but when you truly look at the vicious acts he committed I see how some people can never forgive him.

I am a liberal. A big liberal like my brother. We grew up in Frisco which is about 80% ultra liberal. My borther was indoctrinated by the wonderful leftist gov’t schools in the Haight Ashburry district. That’s why we love to use the word hate and conservative so much!
Those evil conservatives are bad bad bad. They don’t want to let this best president, lowest approvals aside, accomplish his agenda. They complain about him playing 50+ rounds of golf in 20 months when Bush played 30 in 8 years and we bashed him for that. You see we are liberal hypocrites and we believe in free speech but only when it’s a liberal cause or message. Now that the president has spoken on Vick, we must defend him at all costs! That is what a good little liberal subject does! Tucker = Bad Vick the dog killer = good.
We would support anyone if they were liberal and the president supports them. We are LLS.
Loyal liberal soldiers. My brother is blessed to work for such a fine left wing newspaper. It is nice for him to get to discuss politics on a sports blog and show his true feelings! He is the best!
