The Falcons' Roddy White never fails to entertain -- and here he goes again.
(2 p.m.: OK. this has officially mutated. The first update below includes Roddy White’s latest Tweets. The second update includes a selection of sanitized-for-your-protection Tweets from readers to @RoddyWhiteTV. I can’t reprint many but you’re free to do a search from your Twitter account, if you have one.)
(7 p.m. I’ve accumulated most of what’s below and put it together for a print column, which I’ve pasted below. The only real new bit of information is a statement from the Falcons. I also chuckled when I just read Roddy’s most recent Tweet: “Can the AJC gave[sic] me a great Christmas present this year and stop posting my tweets I would luv that.” I believe we need to have a discussion.)
In the old days, this was called bulletin board material: a player or coach saying something that ended up in a newspaper story and, literally, was pinned to a bulletin board in the other team’s locker room. (And yes, I’ve seen it.)
But now, we’re more likely to have Twitter wars.
It’s fairly mild so far, but things are heating up between the Falcons’ Roddy White and the New Orleans Saints, who come to the Georgia Dome Monday night.
This actually started after ESPN analyst Trent Dilfer, took to a video blog to compare the Falcons to the 2003 Kansas Chiefs, who went 13-3 and then were bounced in the first-round of the playoffs. Dilfer said the Falcons “are not indestructible” at home and he went on to say the Saints could very well win Monday night’s game, then come back and beat the Falcons again in the playoffs in the Georgia Dome.
Here’s the video:
White responded via Twitter, @RoddyWhiteTV: “No chance in hell the Aints come into the dome and win once trent dilfer”
White, who’s been known to talk some smack on his amusing video blog site, RoddyWhite.TV, also Tweeted: “The aints fans are so rude … we shall see monday night.” And: “Yall [New Orleans] fans keep talking making it worst for those guys tht got to guard me cause yall don’t. lol.”
Will Smith, the Saints defensive end, responded on Twitter and it was subsequently re-Tweeted by Reggie Bush: “Wondering how @roddywhitetv has the audacity to call us AINT’S.” And he attached this photo:

UPDATE: Here’s the latest Roddy White Tweets. OK, now he might be taking things a little too far:
11:48 a.m.: “I don’t know why everybody mad for the saints I made a comment on wht trent dilfer said on tv it had nothing to do with them”
12:03 p.m.: “The grace of god gave them tht championship so tht city wouldn fall apart now and now they think they hot [bleep] in … http://tmi.me/4ugiT“
12:04: p.m.: “The first time we played them their coach gone say after we won the game thts a good win for yall like the saints are the colts”
12:05 p.m.: “The saints win one championship and want to go crazy well yall [bleep] aint winning this year we gone make sure tht doesn’t happen.”
UPDATE II: Here’s a selection of comments Tweeted directly to @RoddyWhiteTV (not fixing typos, just taking out profanity):
@fleurdelele: Among the comments: “Lemme see your [rear] go thru what we in Nola went thru after Katrina…then try & talk [crap] about us!”
@ goodolcharlie: @roddywhiteTV dude you talk more crap then ocho well this monday the saints are going to shut you up.

@Monedula: @roddywhiteTV how many superbowl rings do you have?
@Peytonshead: Saints fans goin crazy over @RoddyWhiteTV talking trash. You need to just say “Roddy, until you win a SB, #ICantTakeYouSeriously.” Done.
@Doucette2003 @roddywhiteTV yeah we still got ONE MORE championship ring than you!!!!! You had a good year but we not having it Monday night #whodat!!!!!!
@ Clint_Money: The funny thing about @roddywhiteTV tweets is that they are borderline unreadable. #collegeisgood
@RickyT105: How many you got Roddy? How many rings you wearing?
@ Haxorize: Man, @roddywhiteTV is making me hate the Dirty Birds even more than I do. It is so on. #geauxsaints
@ StephanieBengal: Hey you’ve been playing light outs but when has a WR ran his mouth @roddywhiteTV equalled into playoff victories and Superbowl titles?
@ Matt Olivier: listen chump!!Don’t think you can say all that [bleep] bout N.O. We WILL hand y’all that first lost at home believe that #WhoDat
@ Claddagh41: @roddywhiteTV its okay that you can’t understand what our team did for our city. Maybe Dr. Phil can help you work out your ring envy issues.

@ Donareilly: This @roddywhiteTV diarrhea of the mouth has to be the dumbest stuff. He spewing a bunch of bs. Lets see what he’s saying tuesday morning.
@ Kralph97: @roddywhiteTV trash talking is 1 thing but trying to undermined the people of the N.O. is a diff game. You’re whack.com for that.
@ RuRu69: Roddy…GET OFF TWITTER AND GO STUDY FOR THE GAME!
@ Nader723: Sean Payton is in the locker room right now with @roddywhiteTV picture on the board saying this [bleep] gotta get SMASHED Monday

I realize none of this constitutes a burning building. But it is amusing to see athletes take their smack talk to the electronic world when they’re often so careful about what they say in front of their locker.
Also this: Is something Trent Dilfer says really worth getting upset about?
♦
Print column
Athletes and celebrities complain all the time about the 24/7 media world today, and they certainly have a point. If you are, say, Roddy White, you can’t go anywhere in public without running the risk that some guy, excessively fueled on Budweiser and Jack Daniel’s and carrying a flip-cam, is going to bait you into saying or doing something stupid.
Two minutes later, we have the latest YouTube sensation.
But there’s another side to the instant media world and we’re witnessing it this week. Athletes and celebrities are fascinated by Twitter. What they wouldn’t dare say in front of their lockers, they don’t hesitate to bang out in 140 characters or less.
In their work environment, athletes often have an automatic filter between their brain and their mouth (though sometimes it comes in the form of the team’s public relations director standing next to them during interviews). But when they’re at home on the couch, they have no filter between their brains and their finger tips.
Which brings us back to Roddy White.
Dude: Do yourself a favor. Take your hands off the keyboard. Better to use them for catching something other than flak.
White, warming up in his own special way for the Falcons’ game against the New Orleans Saints Monday night, ignited a Twitter war Wednesday. White is an amusing and entertaining guy, and it’s not the first time he has engaged in a little smack talk on his Twitter site (@RoddyWhiteTV) or on his video blog (RoddyWhite.TV). But he jumped the rails a bit this time.
This actually started after ESPN analyst Trent Dilfer, in a commentary, compared the Falcons to the 2003 Kansas Chiefs, who went 13-3 and then were bounced in the first-round of the playoffs. Dilfer said the Falcons “are not indestructible” at home. He went on to say the Saints could win Monday night’s game, and then come back and beat the Falcons again in the playoffs in the Georgia Dome.
White took to Twitter for his response: “No chance in hell the Aints come into the dome and win once trent dilfer.”
No real harm, right?
Then it got fun. Saints defensive end Will Smith responded on Twitter: “Wondering how @roddywhitetv has the audacity to call us AINT’S.” And for punctuation, he attached a photo of his Super Bowl ring. (That was re-Tweeted by Reggie Bush.)
Still no real harm, right?
Then White sent out the following three Tweets (not cleaning up the typos or grammar here):
“I don’t know why everybody mad for the saints I made a comment on wht trent dilfer said on tv it had nothing to do with them.”
“The grace of god gave them tht championship so tht city wouldn fall apart now and now they think they hot [bleep] …”
“The first time we played them their coach gone say after we won the game thts a good win for yall like the saints are the Colts.”
That second comment was by far the most inflammatory because it invoked the city of New Orleans. It touched off a flurry of comments to White’s Twitter account. Some came from Falcons’ fans supporting him, but most were from angry Saints, many including profanity.
Among the comments: “Lemme see your [rear] go thru what we in Nola went thru after Katrina…then try & talk [crap] about us!”
White was not available for comment Wednesday, which was a players’ day off for the Falcons.
Reggie Roberts, the Falcons’ vice president of football communications, e-mailed a statement, saying only: “We simply think this was a case of one of our guys having fun on his personal Twitter account. The fact of the matter is that Monday night’s game will be played by two of the NFL’s better teams and the outcome will be decided on the field.”
I realize none of this constitutes a burning building. But it is curious how athletes take their smack talk to the electronic world when they’re so careful about what they actually say.
Oh, and there’s this: Is something Trent Dilfer says really worth getting upset about?

“Nick, you are correct that the stats are not exactly the same. This year, the Falcons scoring defense is much better tthan the saints of last year.”
And our scoring offense was far better than yours. We scored 169 more points than we allowed last season, 217 if you include the playoffs. Atlanta is currently at 108.
Not to mention the Saints were missing their 2 starting CBs and 2 starting OLBs for multiple games last season. In fact, the past 2 seasons the Saints have been hit by injury after injury and still managed to win 26 total games. I’d like to see how Atlanta would cope without some of their top players for more than a quarter.

“Atlanta is 12 and 2, saints are 10 and 4. Atlanta is the best team in the NFL. Choke on that… You are what your record says you are…”
If only “best record in the NFL” equaled “Super Bowl Champion”.
As for “best team in the NFL”, they play in New England.

The chiefs lost to the colts 38-31 that year. The colts were a 3 seed. The falcons will be a 1 seed and play or 4 or 5 seed. Dilfer is a moron and has been bashing the falcons all year. Trent if you are so confident in this, let’s make a bet. I will bet you 5k the falcons won’t lose 2 games at home to NO. I know you read these blogs about you. That’s how insecure you are. Bald headed dumbarse.

1. Dilfer’s thoughts are opine only. His opinion is contrary to record, so he has a right to be wrong, and our guys will prove him wrong.
2. Aints got their share of breaks last year. Do you all remember the close ones and the come from behind wins they had? Sound familiar? We are getting those this year. They are not.
3. They are going to have to play 2 to our 1 and stay healthy. They have a harder road.
4. We can still lose to them and beat Carolina and still have the NFC best record and home field advantage. All advantage to us.
5. New Orleans sux. Hate that darn city. It’s slummy, dirty and below sea level? Who the hell thought that was a good idea?
6. 12-2. Falcons Rule!

DAT BOOT… I know you guys are dangerous. Never said you weren’t. You have the team and talent to beat us but we have the team and talent to beat you as well. You guys are World Champions and you deserve all the credit and respect you earned.for last year. All I am saying is this is not last year. The Saints had/have a ton of heart and I was one Falcon fan that was happy (to some extent) that you guys won the SB last year because of what that city has been through. But I get tired of all of your fans coming on these threads and running their mouths like the Saints are the Patriots. When the Saints win multiple championships then they can crow all they want but until then not so much. To be totally honest there are only three teams that concern me right now and that is the Saints, Eagles and the Patriots. You guys out to be praying that you do not end up playing in Chicago in order to get back to Atlanta cause that will be a tough place to play in that weather. Personally I would love to play the Saints here again in the playoffs because it would be crazy. I enjoy the Saints fans that travel and come to the games. As a matter of fact I have tailgated with them many, many times over the years and they are a blast.

Monday’s game is meaningless in the falcons just have to beat a bad carolina team to get the #1 seed. So timmy, it is meaningless. But I wouldn’t expect you to know stuff like that being the jock moron you are. The falcons D is much better than when they played NO. The saints barely beat cincy–shoulda lost and got smacked around by Balt. The falcons won’t even have to give 100% to beat them.
Even with the game not meaning much the falcons win

Because the Falcons being elite in the NFL is just like Boise State playing for the BCS. They had a great record, but in the end when it counted they CHOKED and they realized they, just like the Falcons are overrated and are far from elite.

We won 11 of our 19 games by 10+. The only “lucky” win we had was against Washington. Atlanta, OTOH, was lucky to beat San Fran (if Clements just falls down, Falcons lose; great play by White, but lucky Clements didn’t just hit the turf), New Orleans (missed chip shot FG), and Baltimore (White blatantly pushing off and then admitting to it on national TV).

You have drew brees. Thats it. THATS IT> No running game. You blitz every play. Its why you lost to Baltimore last week. BLITZ CRAZY. No one would take another player on your team besides Drew Brees. He has a few more years left. Then you and your visor wearing coach will be done. ANd your bad ownership will DOOM you for yrs if not decades.

And those are just defunct teams. Current teams have also left Baltimore, Chicago, Cleveland, Los Angeles (twice), and St. Louis.

WhoDat sounds so unintelligent! But what can you expect from New Orleans people. Look how they trashed everything in their path when people took pitty on them after Katrina. The Saints are healthy, and they are coming into are dome after a lost. Roddy needs to be quiet and heal his body, because they are going to do some cheating come Monday Night. The Saints are known for stripping the football, for example, the Dallas game. Mr. White, please hold on to the football, and don’t let them Saint strip the football from you. This game is a Championship game, and we hope that the Falcons fans will be beating chairs, screaming, and going crazy. Learn from Ocho Johnson, who put a 3-11 curse on his team “If we don’t go to the Super Bowl it’s a blanket shame”. Falcons need to stay healthy, get this win and rest up the wounded players for the playoffs. GO FALCONS!!!!

I am life time Steelers Fan and the Falcons are my second team. How ironic would it be if Mike Vick and Matt Ryan ended up Co-MVP’s?? Not sure if that is even possible?? The Falcons ball control on offense is the best in the NFL and Turner is a horse. The Defense while much improved still has it’s moments. A completely healthy SPOON makes that defense sick! If there was a rematch today of the first game the Falcons would beat my Steelers with no problem. The city of Atlanta and the Falcon Fans deserve a Superbowl Champion! Guess the Saint fans forgot about Favre’s gift in the NFC title game last year. How many times did the Vikes hand them the ball? It wasn’t over until the Vikes choked away a chance at a winning chip-shot field goal.
Yes, the Saints had it all going last year but they were very fortunate in the title game. Fortune is always a big factor in who wins an evenly matched game.

Dilfer is just part of the pack mentality at ESPN and other east coast news outlets that cannot get their heads around the fact that the Falcons are the best team in the NFC. When you think about it, they’ve been pretty disrespectful of the Saints much of the year, too, who are pretty much the same team as last year but with a worse turnover ratio. In the NFC it’s been all Eagles/Giants/Cowboys since Week 3.
It’s not that they truly BELIEVE the Falcons will blow it, it’s that they WANT them too so everything will fit their preferred narrative and they can go back to talking about DeSean Jackson, Rex Ryan and ‘can the Cowboys STILL make the playoffs?’ 24/7.
Maybe those lunkheads should check the latest census figures before dissing teams outside the Northeast and Midwest with such reckless abandon. These reasons are why THIS obsessive sports fan watches ESPN less than the Game Show Network.

Roddy country bumpkin is as trashy as that show the housewives of atlanta. Your team has not won a thing and he wants to talk about the saints. That’s coming from a team that just had back to back winning seasons in it’s franchise history. Dude you are a idiot. If you don’t push off against the ravens thats a loss. If the 49ners player after that interception just falls to the ground that’s a losts. If the saints kicker hits that 29 yard field goal tests a loss. Now I know thats all part of the game, but your team has luck on their side this year, just like the saints had last year, and sometimes you have to make your luck. Until you get to party with the Lombardi, like we did you roddy or roady country bumpkin, need to shut your ugly face.

Roddy White has backed up all the trash that he has been talking all year, he leads the NFL in catches and yards. A few weeks back he made comments like that before the Falcons played the Ravens and he let his play on the field do the talking once the game started. I think that is just what you get when its two huge rivals like the Falcons and Saints. As for Trent Dilfer he’s a complete moron and not worth my or anyone’s time for that matter. Go Falcons!!!

Who Dat Nation, reading your posts is like slowly having pieces of my brain removed. I just feel myself getting dumber as I read them. The Steelers 2nd string QB didn’t beat us – their defense did. That’s how they beat teams. They didn’t score a touchdown on us until overtime.
But what’s funny is that we haven’t lost to a bad team all year. Mind explaining how you guys lost to Arizona and Cleveland??? I’m amazed that any team who lost to Arizona would still have fans gutsy enough to come on an opposing message board, but then I guess that’s why Saints fans aren’t exactly know for their high IQs. You can’t have a high IQ and willingly live in that trash dump known as New Orleans.

Tell me you can’t see this scenario playing out:
Falcons meet the Eagles in the Dome during the playoffs. Atlanta “fans” cheer wildly for Michael Vick (just like last time he was here). Philly wins. Stupid Falcons “fans” get their wish.
In all honesty, I can see this happening. I like Vick as much as any Falcons fan does.. but when his team comes to THE DIRTY DOME, they are the enemy. The 12th man is needed for our team, not the visiting team. The fact that we have thousands of imbeciles in the stands that can’t fathom rooting for the FALCONS just amazes my goofy white ass.
