Richt looking forward to putting Dogs’ season behind him

Mark Richt enjoyed a rare highlight with the win over Georgia Tech but can't wait for this year to end.

Mark Richt celebrated after beating Georgia Tech but he can't wait for this season to end.

ATHENS – The final home practice of the season had ended Tuesday, and Mark Richt acted like somebody just surgically removed a bowling ball from the top of his cranium.

He smiled. He cracked jokes. He probably hadn’t been this relaxed since word first leaked of some NCAA investigation into A.J. Green back in July.

“It’s the last day,” Richt said Tuesday, almost giddy. “It’s kind of like just before the first day of summer when the kids can’t wait to go on vacation. What they don’t realize is the teachers are even more excited than the pupils. I’ve got four days now where hopefully I don’t have to do anything. That would be awesome.”

Can you blame him?

It’s not that Richt isn’t looking forward to Georgia’s final game, the Liberty Bowl against Central Florida. But mostly he is looking forward to this season officially being over. Losses, suspensions and arrests have worn on him (it’s worth noting Richt’s qualifier: “… where hopefully I don’t have to do anything.”)

The season can’t be fixed. It can, however, be dropped into a waste basket.

Richt recognizes the problems. It’s why he churned part of his coaching staff last year and recently demoted his strength and conditioning coach. Defense is an issue. Mental and physical toughness — definitely issues. The Dogs are losing too many games late and too many games on the road, which used to be a staple under Richt.

Resolve, resilience — those are just words now.

Richt: “We played close games but close doesn’t get it done. We talk about finishing the drill, but we certainly didn’t live up to that.”

He won’t wait until the spring to talk to his players about next season, or until the day after the Liberty Bowl. The 2011 season, he said, starts when the scoreboard clock in Memphis hits 0:00.

“Here’s how I look at next year: When we play the [bowl] game, and it’s over, and we’re in the locker room, I’m going to thank those seniors for everything they did, and hopefully they’ll have a smile on their face,” he said. “Once I tell the seniors thank you, I’ll talk to the juniors and I’ll say, ‘OK, from this moment forward, it’s on your watch. This is your team. What are you going to do with it?’ We’ll immediately start talking about next year.”

And then this: “When the game’s over, we’re turning the page.”

Does this sound like a man ready to move on?

Of course, Richt recognizes that it’s really he who’s on watch next season, more than the returning players. He has been questioned in Athens like never before. A segment of the fan base wanted him out. Since winning two SEC titles in his first five seasons, he has seen other programs pass Georgia. South Carolina just won the East. Only three schools – Kentucky, Vanderbilt and Mississippi – won fewer conference games this season than the Dogs.

Georgia’s 3-5 record – the same as the recently imploded Tennessee. Nobody expected that, least of all Richt.

When athletic director Greg McGarity reaffirmed before the Georgia Tech game that he wasn’t going to make a change. I’ve stated before, that’s the right call. Richt has built up enough credits in 10 years that he deserves an opportunity to turn this around. If he can’t do it next year, then the subject is certain to be revisited.

Richt knows this. But he feels good about quarterback Aaron Murray. He feels confident the defense will improve. He thinks changes in the strength and conditioning program are “going to make us better.”

A win in the Liberty Bowl would be nice, Richt said. But it can’t wipe out the last several months — and he is so ready to move on.

He better talk to his entire team about the following:

1.) Staying out of trouble
2.) Getting ready to beat Boise State and play like it is their last game
3.) Pay attention to coach T and follow his strength training regimen and get bigger, faster and stronger
4.) Repeat 1 and 2

Richt needs to recruit like there is no tomorrow because for him, there might not be one if he doesn’t win at least 9 games next year.

2011 will be a make or break season for CMR and the UGA program as a whole, it starts with recruiting, signing impact guys or guys who are willing to do whatever it takes and bleed UGA red/black….then with the off-season strength/conditioning…the spring practices…and the practices leading into the Boise State game.

We’ll have a great chance to have a turn around season…but it’s up to Richt and the other coaches…and then to the players.

If he doesn’t get it done in 2011…

and next year won’t be any better. this isn’t 2005 mutts.
boise is for real and if you don’t come prepared, which you haven’t much this season, you’ll get pounded. of course the pollsters will rank you much higher than you’re worth because
1. you’re in the sec
2. you’re playing boise and they want to get as many eyes on it as they can. an unranked uga, which is where you should be after losing half your offense, just won’t bring the eyeballs like a 18th ranking will.

2011 will be huge……….For Coach Richt……………My guess is 85% of UGA alum likes him, 75% of just fans, but I’d say, if asked, 50% would say that he needs to show significant improvement to keep his job. I’d say 7-5 might even keep him if the defeats are hard fought and close. Liking Mark Richt is not the question. Being competitive in the SEC is. The schedule sets up nice for him next year. AU should even be a win at home if Cam leaves, and he will. This team could lose to Boise,SC,and Florida….and 9-3 would bring him back. A lot of fellow Bulldog club members I talk to are worried about this class upcoming. They think it’s fading….

Jeff, I feel the way you wrote this article, you are trying to paint the picture of Mark richt taking the Eeyore approach of “oh, botha”.

Any Tech fan that reads this will interpret this like Mark Richt is just moping around the practice sidelines, wondering why he even interacts with this team anymore.

So I copied this link from Georgiadogs.com of today’s practice session to paint the picture that REALLY should be painted about the attitude in Athens.

I would scratch the MOTIVATION TOOL of jumping from the pool high board bit, next season, CMR. The players need to know that you are on a mission and you’re “taking no prisoners”. Whether the “prisoners”(no pun intended!) are players or they are coaches who are not smart enough to make game adjustments that give the DAWGS the best chance of being successful in tight games. The real need for them to call plays that exploit your opponents weaknesses rather than playing to your opponents strengths. The coaches in the booth MUST see what the fans, like me, are seeing. We stay in losing strategies much TOO LONG during quarters. I guess to prove a point! Expensive stubborness, in my opinion. If something is not working. Cease the activity! Next, I am very worried about the recruitment coming up. The last two season records for UGA is hurting us. Hope we get a few Christmas surprises in the form of 4-5 defensive animals! We need them badly. Just remember CGT. We are not very patient when our defense loses games for us.

takedowndawg,

you honestly think that Coach Richt taking his team to the pool (like he has done every year since being at UGA) for one afternoon during Summer camp, and creating a bonding atmosphere for the KIDS on this team, is the reason we went 6-6 this year?

Honestly?

Come on man. A college football team is not a boot camp or punishment for chosing that school. I guarantee you Saban, Meyer, Chizik, Spurrier and every other coach in the country do things every year to let the kids have fun and bond as a team.

The only people who say this Dawgs team is not close with one another, are the frustrated fans who want to take extreme measures so you can have an extra bragging right or two over the offseason. Go ask ANY of the players on this team is going swimming was a disgrace to them, and weakened their ability to gel together and win games, and they will laugh in your face.

Go join the military, buddy. And cheer for their intramural teams if you want 100% serious faces 100% of the time.

The Presidents of Maryland and Miami had coach’s fired that won more games than Richt this year, just say’n…… Two things at work….. Mark is a very, very nice, respected man OFF THE FOOTBALL field…and 10 years at UGA, with some success……….Donnan got the hook pretty quick. I, as a fan and alum study this team and roster. I’m very concerned he is in a talent gap in players and coach’s at this time, and will not have the time to turn it around. Very telling that late in the second half of the Tech game on fourth and one our Veteran line could not knock Tech’s tired defense off the ball for a first down. They stuffed the play. Nuff said.

Richt better hope that the Tereshinski move works out, but the main issue is players. As in, not enough really good ones. Name me one impact player on this defense. None. Maybe Jarvis Jones will be Boss Bailey and we will find a Jonathan Sullivan, Greg Blue, Thomas Davis, Tim Wansley, and maybe a Tony Gilbert or Will Weatherspoon in recruiting or at junior college. Otherwise, the Dawgs will be trying to hire Will Muschamp, or God forbid, Kirby Smart next December.

Dont’ mean to berate players, but UGA’s recruiting has been overrated. Our coaches have got to do a better job of evaluating and recruit not just talent but heart. I hope Coach Richt is at UGA as long as he wants to be. College football has big problems when you have people like Coach Friedgen getting fired and Bill Stewart. The coaching fraternity has brought alot of this on themselves by the big salaries, but it has gotten out of hand. I heard Coach K say if he started at Duke today he probably wouldn’t be at Duke 6 or 7 years. That is sad. We are a spoiled society and if we can’t win it all we lose. I like to win as much as anybody but the handling of coaches has gotten out of hand.

If he was one of my employees, he’d had been fired last year. It’s attitude not record. His attitude is on display on that field for 12 games this year. His performance review is unsatisfactory in all areas. My thought is, why waste another year? But, he is back and it is what it is. In my mind he has a year to fix it. The difference in UGA and Miami is that the Dawgs got better as the year went on. Maryland doesn’t know what they are doing. I have had a couple of high school coaches tell me that some recruits are worried about the future of CMR. Our competitor’s are using that against us in every living room of each blue chip prospect as well. If we are going to stick with CMR I think McGarity needs to give him an extension through 2014. d.a. double, you what you appear to be saying is that Coach Richt know worn out motivational tools are working for him? Like “finish, the drill”. I suspect that they might have had a positive affect some time in the past in the Pollack-Green era but I question their effectiveness now. If I hear the, “finish, the drill” one more time(in a commercial or a speaking engagement by Coach Richt, I may throw up! Two terrible seasons with a VERY GOOD young quarterback and several outstanding receivers and two or three defensive players of repute. I believe the trite slogans have very little, if any meaning, to the current players. Slogans, are supposed to change the heart of the player and make them give more of themselves. I don’t these slogans have any power or affect on this current crop of players. You and I can agree to disagree but obviously what is being using is not working. A lot of folks seemed to have pretty high expectations for a team starting a freshman QB and installing a new defense. I’m not completely surprised by UGA’s 2010 season, but a little disappointed.

Murray played much better than I expected, and the Bulldogs were more competitive than I originally expected. The disappointment comes from watching UGA lose the close ones — especially Colorado.

Richt is trying to bolster the conditioning of his team by changing the S&C program. He’s trying to deal with character issues by establishing a mentoring resource. He’s actively dealing with noticeable issues while using resources already at his disposal. These are positive changes in areas with glaring shortcomings, in my opinion.

Richt made a huge, tough change by gutting his defensive staff last year. Couldn’t reasonably expect that to pay huge dividends in the first year. However, this is the one area I’m watching closely. It’s a big change to go from a 4-3 to a 3-4 defense, with the latter being more complex. Due to assignment flexibility, I wonder if it was a smart move to go to a 3-4 defense. Making calls and meeting assignments in a 3-4 set-up may be a little too complex for the college players to take on. I think 2011 will showcase whether or not this was another mistake.

I have no problem with Richt getting another year to pull the program back together. He’s got a good AD to provide the support he needs. Got to admit, though, that I’m a bit unsettled by a 10-year head coach that still seems to be struggling to put together the “right formula.”

In any event, the UGA fanbase can now look ahead to 2011. We’ll see what transpires . . .

There were a lot of things for the dawgs to celebrate this year. Let’s see…

1. A drunken, whoring athletic director.

2. Twelve players arrested.

3. A player suspended for violating NCAA rules.

4. Winning the Fulmer Cup for the most players arrested.

5. Winning the title of #1 party school (i.e., the most drunken student body in the USA).

6. A sleazy assistant coach who razzes opposing players, unethical coaching conduct in violation of NCAA rules.

7. A super sleazy head coach who thinks he’s a saint, but recruits thug wannabes, gangbangers, and illiterate morons.

8. A 6-6 record despite having a team full of 4- and 5-star recruits.

2) South Carolina – Probable loss. SC will be even better next year on offense ( But the D will be a work in progress) Dogs 1-1

3) Coastal Carolina – Lead pipe cinch win. Mortal lock . Dogs 2-1

4) @ Ole Miss- Likely win.Say goodbye to Houston Nutt on this trip. He’ll walk the plank in Oxford at seasons end. Dogs 3-1

5) Mississippi State- Defining game. Bet on the Bulldogs in this one. The “other” Bulldogs. Dogs 3-2

6) @ Tennessee- Vols always play GA tough in K-Ville. This one could be where the “sources close to the program” ( IE: Big $$$ donors) start speculating on Richts departure. Dogs 3-3

7) @ Vanderbilt- Probable win. GA players rally around their embattled coach. Dogs 4-3

8) Florida @ J’Ville- Until Richt is somewhere else ,likely loss. Dogs 4-4

9) New Mexico State- Likely win. Aggies girlfriends could give us a better game . Dogs 5-4

10) Auburn- A win. Cam Newton will be earning money in plain sight ( in the NFL) and the Dogs will settle a score. Dogs 6-4

11) Kentucky – Likely win. Kentucky is still Kentucky (in football) Dogs 7-4

12) @ Tech- Likely win. After months of internal investigations, endless fact finding blue ribbon committees and a president’s direct interview of Paul Johnson,it is determined that Georgia Tech cannot throw a forward pass to save its life. Dogs 8-4.

There you go. Do we keep CMR if it unfolds like this? Is the 6 win to 8 win improvement enough / Does he get the benefit of another years doubt?

Its kind of like comparing a Christmas Tree to Christianity. I am a Christian…..and believe in Jesus Christ the Son of God…who died on that wonderful cross for me. However by no means does a Christmas tree represent Christianity. Alot of people have Christmas trees but aren’t Christians.

The same goes for this “Finish The Drill” stuff….which alot of past former athletes attributed their success because they gave it their all. However by no means does it mean that any players today want to continue in that same tradition. Actually other than Murray…Green…Houston….Durham….I see no real guys on this team that stepped it up. I have been watching Georgia for the last 25 years….and this group stunk!!!!!!!!!!!! Coaches…players….and fans……all have themselves to blame for a subpar season. Id be interested to see our new slogan once FTD is retired….”THE DREAM TEAM”…..ROFL

Astropig………………..It will be time to go when Adams say’s it’s time. That man is powerful, and the Regents will not and do not step on his toes, Nor the Athletic board. Adams is the guy, and if it plays out as you laid out, Mark will be back in 2012. Adams IS the one and ONLY one to make the call. Now, if the Money starts going away, he’ll sit up and take notice, but winning 5,7, 8 games is fine with this guy.

Found this on the ESPN blogs…made me laugh.

Cecil is trying to come up with ways to increase donations to his church. He stumbles on a book on hypnosis and decides to give it a try. The first Sunday, he says “You will each give a hundred dollars.” Sure enough, he takes up the offering and each person has given a hundred dollars. The following Sunday he does it again, and sure enough, everyone gives $100. The next week is Easter and he knows his church will be packed, so he decides to go for broke. Easter Sunday arrives — record crowd – 180 people show up. He gets up there and instructs them (under hypnosis) to each give $1000. Sure enough, they do. He’s busy collecting his $180,000 in the offering plates, but the weight of that much money makes him drop the plates and money scatters EVERYWHERE! He yells “Crap!”
(He spent the rest of the afternoon cleaning up the church).

jb, I do believe that you are right regarding Adams. I think that he personally is well satisfied with 60% winning record for our DAWGS. He seems detached and uninvolved. He is more interested in the University’s acad. rating. Nothing wrong with that priority but where does the football program fall in his priorities? Does anyone know? Good question, jb.

Why does the AJC even waste the money to pay writers to write the same stuff. Pull out last year’s or the year before last, replace the names with the raising seniors and you have these articles already written, and you can mail it in from home. I might add with the same results every year too. Seems to me Richt is not one of those coaches that lives in the office, and I think Georgia lets him get away with that while he is winning and he in return his players. You always hear of the hard working coach, maybe since these articles are so easy for the press to write, a little time could be spent comparing what other men do that make one million dollars or above a year. I think you would be surprised that most of them have a workload much more stringent than than college coaching. I think most men of accomplishment cannot stay away from their jobs either. It is a disease. Not good for the health but neither is being a soldier or many other occupations that make far less. No the real coach is not a great family man or church organizer, no more than a Ted Turner or Donald Trump is. They are freaks paid a lot of money to be freaks. The only place they feel normal is in their own empires, control freaks. I don’t see any of this in Richt, may have been there and gone, but I am thinking it is not there now. Richt may get to heaven before anybody in the SEC but it is going to be hell on earth.

If Richt does not win the SEC he should be gone next year PERIOD!!! South Carolina should be our toughest test. Florida bringing in a new coach and new system if we can’t beat them next year, it will never happen!!!Tennessee will be much improved but they are a little further away than we are!!! Auburn losing Newton and starting a new qb should be a win. Mississippi state will be a good game but really Mississippi beating us 2 years in a row!!! Should never happen!!! There is no Lsu on the schedule and no Alabama!!! Unless we get to SEC championship game!!! So bottom line this is the easiest schedule we will have had or will have in a long time. But if we can’t beat the teams in Sec east the Florida’s , Tennessee or South Carolina we can never win anything. Like Richt said when he was hired 10 years ago I know why I was hired To BEAT FLORIDA. Well Richt even by what you said then YOU HAVE NOT DELIVERED!!! 1 MORE SEASON SEC CHAMPIONSHIP OR BYE BYE RICHT!!!

Only saw that called on one other school and that was Washington and this year we lose Green and have a young QB. We played with no heart, I guess that is coaches fault. The Florida game this year kind of set the tone for the year. Who would have expected Murray to play like he did. We forgot he was young. No excuses but truth is the truth. Bottom line is if Coach Richt doesn’t beat Florida next year he will be gone and all of you will be happy. And if we don’t get tougher on players that will happen.

Let’s see how all this adds up:

A.J. Green gone to the pros; plus
Mediocre running backs (yeah, the same two); but
Aaron Murray with a year under his belt; but, then again,
The distraction of blue chip Christian LeMay (wait and see); but, again,
An extremely favorable schedule; but there’s always
A defense that seemingly cannot stop the run; but don’t forget
The above average special teams play (barring early exits), but
That lack of on and off field discipline thing.

Drum roll please . . . . . .

2011 is the year the Dawgs should run the table> There, I said it. But . . . they’ll be lucky to slog through a 9-3 record. And that begs the question, can a winning coach get fired after going 9-3? Check back with me next December on that one.

I keep reading a lot of comments about how 9 wins should bring Richt back next season. As far as I’m concerned, if he doesn’t beat UF next year, he should be gone. Period. Football is really about two things: 1. winning rivalry games; 2. conference championships. If you can’t do 1., then it is difficult to do 2. Even if you don’t do 1., but somehow accomplish 2. (as we did in ‘02 and ‘05), it diminishes the accomplishment and leaves a bad taste.

Richt is 2-8 against UF. If he falls to 2-9 next season, what more evidence do Georgia fans need that Richt is not the guy to turn this rivalry around? Ole Miss, Miss. St. and Auburn beat Florida at least half the time. If they can do it, there’s no reason Georgia can’t. Someone out there is a coach with the cajones to turn the series around for Georgia just like an audacious Spurrier once turned it around for UF. Georgia needs to be committed to finding that coach.

Serious Dawg fans need to start organizing and demanding that Richt be fired. Otherwise, sports writers will be asking the same questions this time a year from now.

Richt represents mediocrity. Saban and Meyer represent excellence and championships. Richt simply isn’t in their class, nor will he ever be. Richt would have to be incredibly lucky to win the division, and the odds against him winning the SEC championship would be at least 50:1.

Those are the simple facts, and there’s no amount of enthusiasm or cheerleading or Top 5 recruiting classes that can get around it.

And no, I’m not actually pulling against UGA in the bowl game. But I wouldn’t cry over a loss in a meaningless game against a non-rival that will only determine whether Georgia is a 6-loss underachiever or a 7-loss underachiever, either.

rincon dog, with the success of Auburn this year it is evident that we don’t pay our players enough.

Joking aside that NC isn’t automatic with the so called talent. Look at USCal this decade all that talent and they have 1 NC. And I would say that their talent level was NFL caliber for most of this decade. I think programs will have ups and down and Richt has had his share of ups this decade, better for UGA than the previous 20 years. A couple of down years with that defense hurting the past 3 years. I think he made the right move there with Grantham. Thing is everybody wants it this year, right now, and we all know a little luck is involved (ask Les Miles). Ask Makc Brown why they didn’t get back to the title game. I think Richt will turn it around with this class coming in I don;t think redshirting the real talent will ever happen again under Richt or with Grantham. They need to win.

Our new coach will be. 1. Southern 2. More than likely an Assit somewhere. ( good enough for Foley he;ll figure) 3. Will clean house. Not one coach will be retained. 4.My feeling no current head coach who’s already made a name will take the job due to Mark’s success. McGarity knows ONE THING. You gotta beat Florida to make it to the Dome. You have a team that can do that, it all falls into place.

Off topic as h3ll but you know, if Mark Cuban can pull off a 12-16 team playoff, there could reasonably 4-5 SEC teams qualifying every year. That wouldn’t sit well would it?

While I like Richt the human being, I became disgusted with Richt the coach after the ‘08 season, and I haven’t seen anything since to make me change my mind. Give him one more year to turn things around and if he does…great! But, if he doesn’t, fire him and let him forfeit the balance of his salary. Maybe Al Davis was right in doing this with Lame Kiffen.

Sure we have. In 2002 and 2007 we were right there. All we needed was for Ohio St or Miami to lose in 02 ( Both came incredibly close to losing multiple times down the stretch) and in 07 if Tennessee doesn’t win out ( They got incredibly lucky to do so ) we play LSU for the SEC title and then for the National title. Nobody can convince me we weren’t the best team in the country in 2007 when two loss LSU won it.

To Supes (and others) asking about Caleb King: I write this only because there’s a report out there and you asked: 1) There’s been rumors for days about the possibility he won’t be eligible; 2) Richt was asked about him today and declined comment on any player’s eligibility at this time (either because there’s an appeals process or because he just didn’t want to address it until the team goes to Memphis; 3) There is a publication, the Columbus Ledger, reporting that Caleb is ineligible. I don’t know the reporter’s source. All I can tell you is that every media outlet has different sourcing policies and the AJC’s is stricter than most. At this time, the school has not made an announcement and sufficient sources haven’t confirmed/reported the story to the AJC. That’s about all I can say on that. I hope that clarifies the situation.

Irrelevant team

December 21st, 2010

UGA has been an irrelevant team for how many years now? The last time they were on any-body’s radar was in the 2008 pre-season poll where they were ranked #1, and wound up with 3 loses. So, I guess the 2007 season was really the last time UGA had an notoriety. Oh wait, my bad; they didn’t win the SEC Championship Game; Wait another minute, they didn’t even win the SEC East, meaning no BCS game either. CMR had a team full of talent and they under achieved. They have top 5 recruiting classes year after year and yet the program continues on a downward spiral.
I truly hope UGA can turn it around and become relevant again. The DAWGS were one of the storied programs when I was growing up along with USC, Mich, Ohio State, ND, PSU, Okla U, The U, etc. All of these programs have gone through tough times, but every program made changes when winning seasons weren’t just good enough (except for PSU of course w/ JoePa).

I don’t believe that Georgia runs a corrupt program, I may be wrong but I think Richt is fairly straight up as far as I can tell. I do wonder about the Lemay kid with his dad being a pastor of his own church. (red flag)

With the Cam Newton saga this year at Auburn, it leads me to believe that the NCAA does not care if a kid is being paid, as long as the NCAA is making money and as long as they can keep it from becoming public knowledge, so as not to risk damage to the ability for the NCAA to earn big bucks, they will turn their head the other way.

Reggie Bush would have never been outed by the NCAA, if it were not for the civil suit filed against Bush, by an agent who was just trying to get his money back. Since it became public knowledge in a public court of law, the NCAA had no other choice but to put USC on probation! College football would not have so many fans and would not be making record revenue if the public found out that the collegiate athlete’s were actually being paid and not just playing the sport for the love of the game.

JRW7, don’t get too excited about your hatred for UGA and it’s recruiting because they’ve probably got a few gems that have already committed to the coaches silently but are waiting until signing day to make it public. Recruiting will never be a problem at UGA.

UGA AD Greg McGarity will be judging Richt on these issues:

Bowl game. Richt needs a win. Is this his last bowl game?
Recruiting. Richt must sign some big boy D linemen AND two great running backs. He needs to own the state of Ga. with recruits and the needed recruits.
Off season in conditioning and academics.
G Day game and will any new stars emerge …………….like Marlon Brown.
Summer time …………………….no arrests are too many.
The Boise State game and the resulting season. 10-2? Cap One must be the min bowl for UGA or the SEC East. THAT would solidify Richt’s future. Only that, not some 7-5 crapola year.

Richt has to excell in these areas or he is gone. Two years too late for my money.

The dogs can have the best coaches, recruit and sign the best players, beat Georgia Tech and win every game played, win the sec championship and national championship, have the best facilities, have sell outs for every game, have the games broadcast every week, have everyone but one wear fuga gear, have the g plastered on every car, house, etc., have barking become a new communication tool, and anything else to be the greatest every year, until the world ends.

But as you all realize/know, the greatest trait of anything associated with uga, which specifically includes any and all dog fans, is that all of you SUCK big time and will until the world ends. It makes no difference what you say nor how you attempt to deny it. So, SUCK on.

A big part of Richt’s early success(in addition to the fact that the coaching in the SEC was not as strong as it has been the last 5-6 years)was his hiring of Van Gorder as defensive coordinator. The Defense was in good hands and he could concentrate on Offense. He made a bad choice to replace Van Gorder and it has led to the decline of the program. I hope I am wrong, but I think he made another bad choice with Grantham. While the defense may have improved statistically, they were not good. They were terrible on 3rd down and couldn’t get stops when needed. Grantham doesn’t come across as a great defensive mind and his antics on the sideline such as making the chock sign to the UF kicker makes him seem to immature to handle an important job. Manny Diaz, now at Mississippi State was available at a third the price and he did a great job at Miss. State. He would have been a good choice and the scheme could have remained the same. No question Richt’s DC choice will decide his fate just as it did in 2001. I hope Grantham is better than it appears from his first season.

Really something to be proud of!

All of you UGAers get your heads out of the sand or wherever you have them
stuck and start worrying about the number one problem with UGA. At the rate
your athlete-thugs are being arrested, you’ll be lucky to have any football team by the end of the season.

UGA has made the state a laughingstock with its reputation as one big party
school with copious job opportunities for bail bondsman, and decent people are fed up with this. Get rid of the illiterate, undisciplined drunks and felons that Mark Richt recruits, and get rid of Richt too. Even with these illiterate jerkoffs, he can’t even win the division, much less the SEC, so what’s the point.

So while you sit there in your delapidated single wide, deciding if the beer will last

There were 21 teams who had a better recruiting class than ours this 2010 season and we have ignoble feat of having our recruits that got us even that highly ranked at # 21 recruiting class, who were arrested / suspended or failed to get in academically – before they even got to play in a game.

The 2009 recruiting class is gone from our roster already.

The 2011 recruiting class, is, once again, more of the same.

One item that should be on everybody’s honey do list for Mark Richt is:

Don’t allow your players to read any of the preseason press: none of this, no predictions, no BS preseason polls.

The only game that should exist right now is the liberty bowl. Then Boise State…. Then South Carolina.

Conjecture about how many games he needs to win or what games the team will win or what they will be ranked is just that…. conjecture. Face it. No one knows.

The sky is falling!!!!

One of the greatest things about college football as opposed to pro football is that you can never EVER base how a team will do NEXT year when you are still in THIS year. NEXT year’s team will be much different from THIS year’s team.

Quit crying about losing AJ and Durham and Houston. Somebody will step up. It happens every year.

Quit crying about the defense. It will have different parts and be more experienced.

Quit crying about Bobo. We scored plenty of points to win 9 – 10 games.

Quit crying about recruiting. It’s almost two months until signing day. We’ll have a top 10 class.

Every single year that Universities have been playing college football every single team has lost some players. You can only have them on the field for four years at most. Some players who were not big enough or strong enough to be a STAR THIS year WILL be big enough and strong enough to be a STAR NEXT year.

For years they had to worry about one team and today they have to worry about only one team, Wisconsin that replaced Michigan. Come up with better proof Irrelevant team”.

Sorry if I upset you over the Holiday Season, as that was not my purpose. Regardless of the outcome concerning W’s & L’s with those teams/schools, the point is they strive to get better. Their programs were suffering due to other schools getting the best players in-state, out-of-state, etc. The other schools changed coaches and while sitting in a recruits living room projected something new…change. They have people start buying into these ideas. Recruits start talking with each other and are sold on where the program is going and get some really good players to come to a school. It is a heck of a recruiting tool. They go to a program that hasn’t been relevant, but has a great football tradition, with a chance at getting on the field sooner, playing with a core group of players with the same vision for 3 or 4 years, and bring back a program like UGA.
Now, I will admit that at some of the schools I mentioned didn’t work out, but their “football nation” was tired of being irrelevant.
Ohio State may be the most over rated team in the country, but they get excellent players, they get the national rankings, they get great ink, they get excellent TV exposure. As bad as ND has been they still have a TV contract and regardless of their record will always be relevant because of their tradition and fam base following.
If Bobo gets demoted, if the OL coach gets released, if, if, if…well if that all happens then all the parts will have been replaced (defensive side done last year, S&C coach this year) and then you have the same person steering the ship. But of course, the enablers will want to give CMR more wiggle room, more time, another year, another change, something/anything to keep this good guy in place. “Just wait until next year” should be on his business cards. Well, next year will be the telling year. Has Ark, SC, MS, Aub, moved ahead of UGA for the best players available? Guess we’ll find when CMR is “given enough time to turn things around”.

For those fans who think UGA is loaded with talent, you’re WRONG. There is a growing talent gap at UGA and it needs to be fixed. If Rodney Garner is such a superior recruitor why don’t we have more players on the first string All SEC Team, or All American’s etc.? With all the coaching vacancies why aren’t more new head coaches going after our coaches such as Rodney Garner? I’ll tell you why… they aren’t that good.

I hope someone makes Garner an offer and he takes. The quicker we get rid of him the better our program will be. He’s a lame defensive line coach and he’s not pulling in the right type of guys at UGA.

UGA has marked the date for MSU in Athens in 2011 and we will punish Mississippi State and it will be a long day. Tavarres King, Marvleous Marlon Brown, Michael Bennett and Orson Charles and Fred Lynch and Wiggons and Rontavous Wooten and more coming like Chris Conley and such. Aaron Murray will make you pay. Ealey ought to be gone too. You recall him? He fumbled into your end zone and lost the ball. TG and GH that he is gonna be gone.

Our QBS are suddenly a very strong part of the UGA team vs 2010’s with 0 depth. In 2011 UGA has Hutson Mason and the Wilcox County QB, Nick Marshall, and that NC kid, LeMay.

Yes, UGA fans are always pumped up about the future with football. Richt is motivated too and all of his coaches know what it on the line, baby. Their JOBS ……………….$375,000 per year up to $750,000 and $2.7 mill for CMR.

Coach em up boys ………………… McGarity is watching and I like it.

Yea, Yea

I remember an article 8 some yrs. ago that Florida was bringing in Ron Zuke and the door was open.

What did Richt do? Proceeded to put up back to back 13pt games and go 1-2 vs. Zuke, and I don’t even count the 1 win, Zuke was a fired coach who ran out of the tunnel to the wrong bench, we had to hang on the win that 1.

This guy flat out gets tight when he sees Florida run out of the tunnel. And yes folks, it’s still about the game in Jax, always has been, always will. And Mark Richt has “really” posted 1 win in Jax. Are you serious? And we’re still talking well next yr. I feel good about it all, Aron Murrray, …….

Can you imagine the pressure Richt will be feeling, even if he’s undefeated going in to Jax, looking over at Will Muschamp! Richt and Bobo will throw up at the hotel and then get on the bus over to Alltel, Florida runs out and Richt and Bobo freeze, takes them a whole first half to adjust, by then it’s too late, just like a few months back.

I’m telling you, nothing has changed.

I go to sleep alone.
Wake up alone.
Dine alone,
Study alone.
Go to GT games alone.
I sit and watch UGA games and the pretty sorority girls and I know that I am always alone.
UGA sorority girls often are asked to go on blind dates with GT men and when they learn that I am a GT mAn, I go to the movie alone BUT WITH TWO TICKETS.
Grant Field during rival games makes me feel alone because it is always empty … like my mouth is now, that they knocked my teeth out.
I laid on the floor after they beat me …………………alone on Ethel Street.
It is never good to be alone at GT ……………..you can lose your video games and your teeth.

Two wins in Jax

December 22nd, 2010
10:50 am

CMR has 2 wins in 10 attempts vs Florida and frankly, who has a better record in the SEC playing them every year??? UGA plays them always in Florida. No, the 2009 SEC C game does not count ……………..what coach has a a better record over 10 in the SEC? Who has consistently defeated The U of F????

Richt is in his 10th yr and there is no other SEC coach but one, so the others must have come and gone, because had they handled The U of F and CUM, they would still be with us.

Put this in perspective ………………U of F has been THE FOOTBALL STANDARD for years now in the entire NCAA Div 1 and I am a UGA grad. Richt could easily have won two more counting this year and one or two others in his 10 but he did not but 2 vs Florida ain’t so bad.

Spurrier has won two in his 5 years. His first yr and this year. Richt is in good company.SS also is a Florida grad and he is a legend …………………legend he is. Like him or not.

Kids …………………when you come on this site, have some info not just some teen dribble.

Pro Football Weekly, after gathering input from NFL evaluators, has released its 2010 All-America team based on a combination of draft value, pure talent and performance.

Any guesses on which SEC team had the most first-team selections?

Georgia … by a mile.

The Bulldogs, who suffered through the worst season of the Mark Richt era, had five players on the first team, including Cordy Glenn and Clint Boling as both of the offensive guards. A.J. Green was selected at receiver, Justin Houston at outside linebacker and Drew Butler at punter.

No other SEC team had more than one player selected as a first-team All-American, which only reinforces that Georgia was far more talented than its record reflected this season. The Bulldogs (6-6) need to beat UCF in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl to avoid their first losing season since 1996.

The best quote I’ve heard out of Athens in 30 years is Todd Grantham earlier last week on 680 with Buck Belue. He said about recruiting, “Is this kid going to help us beat Florida? That’s how I’m looking at players. Georgia can’t achieve it’s goals until we beat Florida.”

It’s about damn time! That’s been Florida’s mantra since 1990. Beat Georgia and it will all take care of itself. It’s that simple. Georgia has been too worried about the “end game”. Too worried about winning the SEC or the NC before looking at the steps to get their. Georgia has relied on it’s total domination of Florida before 1990, it’s rested on “well we’ve won in Jacksonville before”.

Georgia has to get out of the Vince Dooley state of mind, realise that the season and everything they play for should be BEAT FLORIDA, everything else will fall into place. The alumni need to quit worrying about Tech because relevance has passed them by. Georgia will split with UT, win 3 out of 4 against USCe, and split with Auburn.

Georgia needs to focus on Florida. All else falls into place.

Nick Fairley scares dawg fans could you ask ol’Nick to please come back for his senior year , we and the rest of the SEC would like to express just how we feel about his type of play. If he were to show up next season in Athens you would have an accurate gauge on just how scared we are of that symbol of all things that Auburn football has come to stand for………tell to bring his “belt” with him.

2010 was what happens when you make the wrong decision at QB. Murray lost 6 games, 5 were his fault. He just choked when it counted, time after time, only did ok when it was against teams with losing records.

Thanks goodness Christian Lemay will be on campus on about a week, to get this ship turned around.

With the right QB, UGA would have been 10-2 in 2010.

Jeff-

When did Richt ever say he was looking forward to putting thre season behind him?

I don’t sense that at all.

He’s looking forward to a few days off for Christmas, who doesn’t?

Richt enjoys the moment, he’s only focused on right now, that means winning the Bowl game, and getting the young guys some reps.

Chances of somebody pulling a Murray, and losing 6 games again, is slim.

Agree, done with Murray, I like that “pulling a Murray” phrase to describe QB’s who can’t beat winning teams.

I am underwhelmed. Of course Richt recognizes the problem. Identification of the problem, however, is just the first step of the six step problem solving framework. Any casual observer recognizes the real problem. Er, uh that would be the CEO, Mark Wrecked. Yes, he fancies himself as a CEO, not a head ball coach. There lies the basic problem. He has no energy, no fire in his belly. He is detached and arrogant. And both his and his staff’s complete lack of coaching and leadership skills are obvious to all but the most blind Aplogists and Defenders in the Bulldog Nation.

There is a faction who thinks that we shouldn’t talk about our coaching problem with candor and frankness. They are misguided. We need to solve the problem, and the problem is Richt plain and simple.

It is well past time that UGA football regain our glory and Tradition with a fresh proven professional coaching staff. The longer we wait, the greater and longer the pain and embarassment. Also, the UGA is going to lose a lot of money from alumni donations and UGA football revenue. Nobody likes a loser.

Here’s another thing. It sounds like Richt and Company have decided to just kind of skate from now until the bowl game day. What a mistake! They should be working EXTRA HARD to avoid a losing season. Somehow, I cannot picture Mark Richt motivating much of anybody. Can you? Do not be surprised if the Dawgs come back from Memphis with their tail between their legs. Not only can we not beat Florida, we can not even beat Central Florida… Who would have ever thought that the great Bulldog Nation would have sunk to such depths?

Keep Murray and replace Richt and 2010 Dawgs are 10-2. Do you idiots know anything about football? During a public discussion I was involved in on Richt, the most ardent Richt supporter during the entire conversation was a woman who made the most sense with this comment in his defense; “Hey, Mark Richt is a handsome man!” Kind of overshadowed all the silly comments about him being a “nice guy”. Well, there you have it. You get what you settle for. With this type of mentality in the stands, why not have STUPID on the field as well? Go Falcons!
