Cam Newton’s Heisman is a victory for fact over suspicions

Cam Newton won the Heisman by a wide margin but he was left off the ballot by 105 voters.

(Updated: 9 p.m. Saturday)

The problem isn’t just that some turned Cam Newton’s Heisman run into a morality play. The problem is how we’re judging morality.

His father tried to pimp him to Mississippi State for cash. So is this was supposed to be a vote for Cecil “Huggy Bear” Newton? Is a Heisman vote suddenly not for the student-athlete but for his father, mother and maybe third cousin? Because if that’s true, clear the trophy case. Start with last year’s winner, Mark Ingram, whose father has been in jail for most of the last 10 years for money laundering and bank fraud.

Cam Newton purchased a stolen laptop when he was at Florida, then panicked and threw it out the window when he heard police footsteps. Big mistake, for which he paid a price (public humiliation).

There have been stories of him being on academic probation at Florida. Sorry, but does this put him in some exclusive company in major college athletics that I’m not aware of?

As someone who makes his living in the world of opinion, it nonetheless astounds me how opinion so often trumps fact today.

Cam Newton won the Heisman Trophy Saturday night. Maybe you don’t like it but it was the only choice that made sense.

Newton’s 2,263 points were far head of the next closest competitor, Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck (1079).  But 105 voters out of the 886 returned ballots left Newton off their ballots. For the holier-than-thou voters who want to point to the word “integrity” in the Heisman’s mission statement and yell, “Aha!” — fine. The laptop incident and academic issues at Florida two years ago at the age of 19 prove that Newton is flawed. Welcome to a very large club.

Warrick Dunn, here delivering a new home to Janice Cantrell, is a pretty fair judge of character.

Question: Do Heisman voters hold every candidate to that standard every year, or is this just a new policy of theirs?

But to those who chose not to vote for Newton for the Heisman based on what they think he knew or they think he did or they think he took during recruiting, I would suggest they try peddling that in a courtroom and see where it gets you.

“They’ve done their investigation and the NCAA says he’s in the clear right now,” Warrick Dunn said Friday. “If they say he’s eligible, he’s eligible. People need to just let it go. He deserves whatever he gets.”

Dunn, the former Falcons running back, didn’t win the Heisman when he was at Florida State (he finished fifth in 1996). But he’s in New York with Newton this weekend to accept the Heisman Humanitarian Award for his long-standing.

“Home for the Holidays” program and the work of his foundation.

Few athletes in history have commanded as much respect on and off the field. So his opinion carries some weight.

When asked about Newton as an Auburn quarterback, Dunn said: “He’s resilient. Mentally tough. To be able to focus and stay on course during all of this says something about his character. He’s been able to separate the nonsense off the field with what he has to do on the field. It shows he’s strong mentally.”

As for Newton’s Heisman candidacy, Dunn was bothered that it was even a question.

“They’re just not giving him his due,” he said. “You’re innocent until proven guilty. Most of this is about public opinion, not facts. People want the perfect student-athlete. There are no perfect student-athletes. When I went to college, most of us didn’t even know if we were breaking rules. What if somebody talked to us or gave us a ride or bought us a meal? We didn’t know. I think a lot of what’s happening to Cam Newton just goes back to the Reggie Bush thing [when he had the trophy taken away for NCAA violations].”

Newton overcame his early problems. He plays with pure joy. He lifted a college program like few ever have. He’s one bowl game away from completing arguably the greatest season ever by a college player. He has endured the darkest of clouds hanging over his head, beating Georgia just after the scandal broke, Alabama on the road after it mushroomed and then South Carolina in the SEC title game.

If evidence should come out that Newton knew something or took something, the argument changes. Take away the award. A lack of integrity will be confirmed.

It’s not an ideal situation, but it’s better than the alternative of disqualifying somebody on a hunch. We don’t convict people when we think they might be thinking of robbing a bank. That’s not enforcing morality. It’s a presumption of guilt.

The number of folks who cheat in college and high school is a long list. I’ve witnessed teachers “cheat” for their pet students which is never punished. I like to see all the judgmental folks judged by their own high standards. Then they would be in a real fix.

RJ – If he truly cheated, and was up for explusion, why didn’t UF notate his academic records or block them when he decided to transfer with the intent to avoid explusion? If they had done either Cam would not have been able to transfer to Blinn Jr College or Auburn. Perhaps the answer to that question is that all of those stories are fabricated – if not, than I think there’s a much bigger story than just Cam Newton cheating.

Shultz,
So now all of a sudden you’re the guy with no morals. If the majority of college students receive stolen laptops and cheat on test, its OK they have served time by humiliation. That’s not bad, I’ll tell my kid to go ahaed and cheat and if you get caught shame on you. If you believe this to be true, then don’t you think you have humiliated Mark Richt enough. Why the change of heart? You think its time to fire CR becauce his boys drink and some get caught. You may not have gone to college, but the majority of college kids drink and they are not even 21. Surprise! Does that make it wrong or OK. Why is Pete Rose not in teh hall of fame…….? The same reason Cammie doesn’t deserve the Heisman! Cammie Newton does not deserve the Heisman because he’s a cheat and a thief and his character along with his “Pimp Daddy” will be gone from college football after 1/10/11. Hip hip horrah!!!

This is unlike the Cam situation which is filled with rumor, speculation, anonymous sources, opinion, and I suspect more than a little bit of wishful thinking. Also, with the Cam situation, whether you like their decision or not, the NCAA, after reviewing all of the evidence, found Cam eligible to play.

If I was an Auburn fan, I’d be as happy as a hog in slop. [insert banjo music here, and break out the double entendres]. But it’s also true that Newton comes across as a poster child for all the “Hey, look at me” athletes of the world. All that prancing around the field after the game, blowing kisses, and soaking up the adulation of “his” fans is nauseating. Hey guy, act like you’ve been there before. Plus, a small dose of humility in the face of all the controversy surrounding him would have gone a long way toward evening his public perception. Instead, he comes across like a man that has dodged a big bullet, but insists on running back out in the middle of the firing range carrying a target. And something tells me that about $40 million of guaranteed money coming his way next year is just not going to make him any more palatable.

“We don’t convict people because we think they might be thinking about robbing a bank” – but we don’t simply declare someone innocent of a dozen other crimes because we don’t have enough evidence to decide if they actually did rob the bank.

I’m OK with giving Cam a pass on the pay for play issue unless/until it is proven that his family received money from Auburn, but that doesn’t mean that he also gets a pass on all of the other legal issues. Newton is the best athlete among the contenders, but he has more “integrity” related problems than all of the other candidates combined. Here is a great example of emotional hearsay evidence.
In 1962, a Georgia Tech player was injured by an Alabama player.
The real problem was the crummy face mask for skill players back then.
The extent of the injury depended on who you listened to.
I believe my family exaggerated the injury for decades to get me to hate Bama.
Why would Bobby Dodd reschedule Alabama in the eighties if the injury was so terrible?
The final proof for me that my family had been lying was last year’s GT/VT game. At halftime the player was introduced and not only that, the program revealed he had played 5 or 6 years in the pros.
The “terrible” incident probably was great preparation for what life in the pros would be like.
There wasn’t an elbow thrown just every week at you back then. You had to dodge one every game.
I thought at that halftime I’d been had.
Tech fans will now probably argue this situation all over again.
Well then Dodd was a fool to play them again.

Its my fault. I was the one who decide to read this article. I find it amazing how many sportscasters and writers now act like Cameron Newton is Mother Teresa.

Listen, just because the NCAA cleared him doesn’t mean

A. He is innocent
B. They just don’t have enought evidence, yet.

I’m not saying Newton is guilty or not guilty, but the guy clearly has had some character issues in the past. I’m tired of sportscasters and writers now trying to talked down to us listeners and readers like we are children.

Let me ask you Jeff; do you believe O.J. was innocent?? Of course not, everyone knows he was guilty; yet is was found innoncent, right. Now that is a whole another argument.

Are you living in a life filled with jealousy and selfishness and simply hate seeing others succeed? I myself think that Cam accomplished what he did due to the awesome players around him, in large part.Any “decent” quarterback could have those numbers with the protection Cam had. Look at the film. Auburn has an awesome offensive line that enables Cam to make those plays. You will also see Cam overthrowing receivers regularly. All i’m saying is, let’s deal with facts. Let’s deal with what happened on the field and only worry about the rest when, or if, it can be proved. Until then, leave the man alone. He’s not liable for his greedy dad’s mistakes.

If you think he played the game this year with excellence you would be 100% correct. If you think he did so with integrity you would be wrong. Both are the mission of the Heisman. I can see your point if Cam had just one issue, but he is showing a pattern of moral turpitude. What does it say to the aspiring athletes in high school and younger if he is awarded the Heisman? That it’s okay to commit questionable acts, perhaps even break the rules, so long as you are an elite athlete?

Shame on you and anyone else who feels that he should win this award. Yes, its okay to make mistakes, and its okay to turn your life around. But should you still get to be able to perform on this grand stage? NO! It’s just like Michael Vick. I’m very happy he’s turn his life around, but no way should he have ever been allowed to play professional football again. Our morality as a country is just plain sickening. Cam has EARNED the Heisman Trophy with his performance on the field and the respect of many others for his classy behavior during all of this off the field turmoil.

He has also made mistakes and paid for them but they have nothing to do with his performance on the field.

At this point, what I want to know is why is no one writing about how Cam’s academic records from Florida became public knowledge and how releasing those without his consent is illegal and a felony? That’s for more serious than is being acknowledged and I’d like to see those same sportswriters who so zealously wrote about what Cecil Newton MIGHT have done do the same thing about something that was DEFINITELY done.

Why doesn’t the rule apply to him, even if he was unaware, a dubius assumption
.
His past doesn’t matter? That’s a dumb stance. Patterns of action distinguish Everyone’s actions, whether good or bad.
So Warrick Dunn’s assessment carries more weight than the next person? Well, what if an even more credible source produces the opposite assessment of the situation. Does that mean we go get the handcuffs?

He would have ONLY been ineligible at MSU where the playforpay scheme was discussed. Just like Albert Means at Alabama. A booster coughed up the money and Means was declared ineligible. He went on to play at Memphis where he WAS eligible since the infraction had not occurred at Memphis. It’s the exact same difference with Cam. Ineligible at one school; eligible at another.

Which story was true- the one he told SI that his father made the Auburn decision; or the one he told Fowler that HE alone made the decision to go to Auburn?

Let’s see. The FIRST story that came out was that Cam said “the money was too much”. NOW all of a sudden the Dawgs have ad-libbed and added two words – “at Auburn” so that it reads “the money was too much at Auburn” just to give the lie more credibility and insinuation against Auburn. NO WHERE have those two words “at Auburn” been reported. NO WHERE! And show us the proof he even said it. Oh? Third party source?

You Losers who are still pimping your 1980 trophy go around and make up crap and now you’re going after Florida. And did we read correct? One of you actually entertained Richt going to Florida? Have you seen the ESPN 30 on 30 titled “The greatest who never was”?
Some similar issues to Cam including a poor family who do not know to wait until the pros to get the money. The player in question played for Oklahoma and the Texas coach was sure Oklahoma has used money to lure him away. Somehow all the going ons managed to ruin him. After some problems developed at Oklahoma, he signed with the same pro league Herchel did. I don’t think he ever got much money. No one in the story comes out looking good.

Schltz…one of your most amateur articles…

Newton is, without a doubt, one of the most gifted college athletes to come through the NCAA in years..no question as to ability and with his size and the right coaching, he should do well in the NFL..
but, he has a lot to learn and I feel that if someone can get through his ego, he will be a real star…

As to his Dad and dealings, it would be hard for any intelligent person to believe that he was not aware of all of the dealings…maybe not directly involved, but too many things said do not add up to the point that he did not know…also, his own actions have proven that he was certainly not above sliding around the law and/or greater punishment at Florida… so, those who do not take the character flaws into consideration are not very smart or do not want to look into their own mirror..
should the character flaws be eliminated for consideration of the Heisman…since there was no overt active effort on his part in the financial dealings, it probably should not count against him, even though I would bet that he knew every detail… maybe the Florida issues were just normal juvy ignorance or just habit from his paternal upraising…

Let’s give him a chance….give him the award….the athletic part he earned outright… it is yet to really be seen what his real character is or will become… he will have lots of money come his way; maybe he needs a few days sessions with Mr. Vick to decide on his real future… that would honestly not be a bad time spent…!!!!

Difference between this and Reggie Bush? It’s called evidence. And to those of you who think he will eventually be found “guilty”: Hold tight to that dream. Organizations like the NCAA are not very likely to a) continue investigating when they’ve rendered judgment and b) overturn their decision later. Tends to make them look (more?) foolish.

The Auburn Hillbillies-

Come and listen to a story about a kid named Cam,
A liar and a thief, but Auburn didn’t give a damn
Then one day he got paid to play the game
And out of nowhere the investigators came
NCAA that is, judge and jury, Committee on Infractions

Well the first thing you know Auburn decides to go “all in”
Cheating didn’t matter just as long as we can win
Glendale, Arizona is the place we want to be
So we threw out the rulebook and called ourselves “family”
The Auburn family that is, yes we cam, “lean on me”

Well now it’s time to say goodbye to Cam and all our wins
He’ll play in the NFL with that same sh*t eatin’ grin
How in the world could we have been such fools,
Now we have to pick up the pieces of what’s left of our school

Sanctions that is, reduced scholarships, bowl bans

We’ll be back now y’hear?

I still do not totally agree, but the argument is tenable. However, one thing needs to be restated: The NCAA and the court of public opinion are NOT criminal fora. You do not have the right to be innocent until proven guilty. That has been an oft-repeated misconception in this whole saga.

I guess the I didn’t know excuse works!!! I didn’t know.

I have said it before and I’ll say it again, this whole thing is about money. How much money would the NCAA lose if it were a TCU v Oregon title game? How many sponsors would jump ship? He wont be guilty until after the season, which will be after everyone makes their money on the game. Cam will be in the NFL next year and won’t be impaired one bit by any NCAA ruling. Chizik will move on to the NFL also, a la Pete Carroll, just before the NCAA wraps up its investigation and he’ll be just fine. The real loser in all this is Auburn. They will be put on probation, lose scholarships, not be able to compete in bowl games, and whatever else the NCAA decides. The fans and university are the real victims of the scum that is the Newton family.

Now we have this saga that really puts a bad taste in your mouth — it is ruining college football. Yeah — we’ve come to expect the crimes and corruption at the pro level, but now it is infecting the college ranks. Anyone who thinks for one minute that a kid who had no problem stealing from another student or cheating in his classes didn’t know anything about his Dad pimping him out — is living in fantasy land. The NCAA has established a precedent this time around that will reverberate through college football for a long long time. Me, personally — I’m sick and tired of hearing about it. I’m starting to feel about college ball the same way I felt about pro ball after they went on strike.

Reality check..

If you want to disqualify Newton on the ‘integrity’ front – wouldn’t you also need to disqualify a player convicted of domestic abuse?

And thus – the 2 players who made the greatest impact, with the best seasons, against the best competition – would be disqualified – even though both are currently eligible to play and those events happened before this season.

The Heisman goes to the best/most impactful player in college football. Start including ‘how much time they volunteered at the local shelter’ – and the award is something it wasn’t really intended to be.

Eventually, you got to realize there might be something more here than an innocent college kid that made a mistake…or two…or three. For now, he is eligible, so you have to vote that way, and there is no better player in college football. But I would not stick my neck out too far for this guy unless I knew him well and knew these situations well.

The thing I still cant get over is why the NCAA even says that its a violation for a parent to shop their son during recruiting? We know that happened at least, but they appear to not want to enforce it. That should be a game or two suspension…period. It’s not the same as Bush where they proved money change hands, and Bush knew about it. Nevertheless, a rule was broken. So, again, why have the rule at all if they wont enforce it like they do all the other knit picky recruiting/agent rules?

For Auburn to get the death penalty, the NCAA needs to prove that there was a significant lack of institutional control AND that multiple people in the athletic department were aware of serious rules violations. That isn’t going to happen.

You may rant and rail – and if Auburn wins on Jan 10 – always claim the conspiracy bogeyman allowed them to win a ‘tarnished’ NC. But the reality will be in 10 years – Auburn has a BCS trophy – and UGAG doesn’t.

Your team will suffer big time for all this and you will still be an idiot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ever heard of SMU? The UGA-AU rivalry will be diminished because you guys won’t be able to compete with UGA when the NCAA get done. Love your NC run, but enjoy loserville for the next decade. Believer — you made a believer out of me. This whole thing stinks, it’s wrong that it is being glossed over due to the big time money (BCS Championship, etc.) implications, and worst of all — like you said, young athletes all across the country are going to try and emulate this behavior. You know — I don’t even care at this point who wins the national championship. I’m not even going to bother watching it. I’ll have extra time now to go hunting.

As a beleiver in the Constitution of the United States I have to agree with you, Jeff. I can think for myself, therefore I don’t need you or Dunn. Everyone has the right to their opinion. If you don’t like the NCAA rules then get them changed. There’s plenty of cheating that goes on everyday and I feel the NCAA does their best to control college sports. Without them there would be no integrity. The SEC is a hot bed for cheating because they are college football and everyone else is just playing. I feel the majority of college programs don’t cheat, but there are some that will do anything to win. If the investigation shows cheating , I hope the NCAA will punish all involved severly. As for as the Heisman Trophy give it to him. The NCAA can always take it back after he has secured his millions from the NFL.

My brother, my brother.

This isn’t a court of law.

1) If it were a court of law, there would be a presumption of innocence and a judge instructing a jury: “Hear only these facts, hear only this testimony, ignore all else, ignore common sense if need be — know the only verdict you can render must be BEYOND THE SHADOW OF A REASONABLE DOUBT.”

2) If this were a court of law, there would be Heisman voters hearing the firsthand sworn testimony of witnesses, seeing the confidential documents of NCAA investigators, and watching video of Cecil Newton and Kenny Rodgers and Cam Newton talking to investigators about the investigation.

Let’s not make this bigger than it is.

Tell the truth – You are exactly correct – one more than UGA, and same number as OU and Minnesota. The last major violation occurred in 1991 – earlier than the most recent UGA violation in 1995. 3 of those violations for Auburn were directly attributable to the football program.

Oh – and before you jump on to the ‘rule-breakers are rule-breakers’ bandwagon too quickly, Auburn, Alabama etc can’t begin to compete with the UGA-Jim Harrick era..

Warnings from reporters and professional athletes about how concerns about Newton won’t pass muster in a court of law and how the NCAA has declared him eligible despite its concerns is a fallacious argument. This is not a court of law, and a declaration of non evidence is not a declaration of innocence. Where there is smoke there is fire is a way of saying there is a lot of circumstantial evidence, and that applies to this case. Newton should become friends with Reggie Bush. He will need to know how Bush coped with the public humiliation involved with giving the Heisman Trophy back.

From everything I’ve read the kid has turned his life around. Is it SO shocking that a 19 year old kid made a mistake? I was a 19 year old kid once like I’m sure most of us were, and BELIEVE ME I made MANY mistakes. Do I want that held against me the rest of my life? It is truly a crying shame what his Dad did, but should the NCAA be in the business of punishing kids for the actions of others? You can only control what you do on the field, and this kid has special talent. To deny him the right to play the game he loves just isn’t right….

Andrew Luck was a high school valedictorian and is an architectural design major at Stanford. That’s not a guarantee of “innate” integrity; there are no guarantees for anyone. Luck may be the 1st draft pick and go on to star in the NFL and go on to win awards for humanitarianism, ala Warrick Dunn. Or, who knows…

Billy Cannon of LSU won the Heisman in 1959 and the 1st pick for the NFL and the new AFL. After pro football, he went back to college and became an orthodontist. Later on, in 1983 he was heavily in debt and became a counterfeiter. He was imprisoned for 2 1/2 years and he was thrown out of the College Football Hall of Fame.

Is Billy Cannon lacking in “innate” integrity? After all, he is a convicted felon. But, since 1995 he has been the dentist for the Louisiana State Penitentiary. Some people overcome their mistakes in life and turn it around. Cannon frequently is present on stage for the Heisman Trophy presentation; you may have noticed him congratulating Mark Ingram last year.

If you try to predict the future you will be wrong on many counts.

Whatever

December 10th, 2010
5:42 pm

Every sportswriter in the South is going to say that Cam should win no matter what. The stuff with his dad aside, what about the other stuff? Does that constitute integrity to you? As for Warrick Dunn, he just needs to keep his mouth shut about Reggie Bush and other matters that he knows nothing about.

“The Heisman Memorial Trophy annually recognizes the outstanding college football player whose performance best exhibits the pursuit of excellence with integrity.”

“Besides the academic fraud, Newton was arrested in November 2008, after he bought a stolen laptop computer. He also had 12 traffic citations between July 2007 and November 2008, according to Alachua County Clerk of Court online records.”

Bill Clinton implores Democrats to back tax deal
Bill Clinton implores Democrats to back tax-cut deal in surprise appearance with Obama

WASHINGTON (AP) — Bill Clinton implored Democrats to back the tax-cut deal that President Barack Obama negotiated with Republicans as the former president made a surprise appearance with Obama in the White House briefing room Friday — and later took over the podium.

“I don’t believe there is a better deal out there,” Clinton told reporters who’d been summoned at a moment’s notice to see the former chief executive back the current one. Clinton and Obama had just finished a private meeting in the Oval Office.

Obama said it was a “terrific meeting” and then yielded to Clinton. The voluble former president took it away, and Obama left part-way through his remarks, saying he had holiday parties to attend. Clinton not only provided an economic tutorial but riffed on several topics, including the need for the Senate to ratify a U.S.-Russia nuclear treaty.

“Both sides are going to have to eat some things they don’t like,” Clinton told reporters about the tax deal. “We don’t want to slip back into a recession. We’ve got to keep this thing going and accelerate its pace. I think this is the best available option.”

You can’t vote based on what you don’t know, only based on what you do. Of the five candidates available, Newton is clearly the best.

And I also think it’s hilarious that despite living in a capitalistic society, Cam Newton and his family are considered “criminals” by some for wanting to be compensated for the work they put in, just because some arbitrary and illogical rules were violated. The economic value added to Auburn and the BCS as a result of Cam Newton being in an Auburn uniform far exceed the economic value of Cam Newton’s scholarship. Y’all can live in fantasy land all you want; to me, no NCAA rule trumps the basic principle of capitalism and free enterprise that says a person can and will be compensated for their hard work. I don’t know if he is guilty or innocent and neither do you. However. if his father is guilty of some crime I definitely believe he knew about it. Two people of low morals that are that close would not have any secrets from each other. If his father is guilty then he is guilty. Anyone believing differently is outright naive or stupid –take your pick. And another thing, if you believe that the SEC and the NCAA would pursue this matter right now then you have your head in the sand. There is too much big money that would be lost if a SEC team is not in the NC game. That is why the SEC said it would be up to the team to investigate. The NCAA will not pursue right now because they don’t want a TCU – Oregon matchup. Who would watch but the very hardcore fans. No interest in this matchup. Remember the protection the SEC officials gave Fla and LSU in recent years (Fla-Ark, LSU-GA among others. This league and the NCAA are crooked. Big money rules. Good luck to Cam and his father if they are innocent but if one is guilty then both are guilty.

At the end of the day, it comes down to whether Cam AND his family broke any NCAA and SEC rules, laws and by-laws. Without a doubt, his father violated a SEC by-law which makes Cam ineligible for any further participation in collegiate sports with any SEC school, whether Cam knew about it or not. Without a doubt. And here it is from another column:

Slive’s statement is an absolute joke, and so is Newton’s restored eligibility. Apologists for both have tried to find some wiggle room in the SEC bylaw that instead makes it clear Newton should never play another down of college football.

That bylaw reads:

“If at any time before or after matriculation in a member institution a student-athlete or any member of his/her family receives or agrees to receive, directly or indirectly, any aid or assistance beyond or in addition to that permitted by the Bylaws of this Conference… such student-athlete shall be ineligible for competition in any intercollegiate sport within the Conference for the remainder of his/her college career.”

It cannot be more clear cut. Obviously the admitted solicitation of $180K from MS St qualifies as agreeing to receive money. Cam without a doubt should be ineligible.

Anyone voting for a guy known to be without question lacking integrity, a prerequisite so important, it’s in the mission statement of the Heisman organization, obviously has a values problem, an inability to distinguish between right & wrong.

The only question is:

Did Cam Newton act in a manner that deserves being recognized for his outstandsing integrity?

No he did not.

The Heisman trophy eligibility criteria is not restrictive enough to exclude those that lack ethics/integrity – hence no reason to exclude Cam.

“Academic integrity” expectations apply to regular students – not football players. No one actually considers a football player a “student”.

Why is everyone so surprised that Cam Newton is a liar and a cheat? The honest truth is that we expect football players to be “academically challenged”. We are impressed when a football player can get through an interview without sounding like a complete idiot. So why the hypocrisy?

Cam is a classic prototype football player in every respect. His sleazy father prostituting Cam out for a few dollars is a sad cliche. I feel sorry for him. He gets my pity vote.

When reputable writers at both Fox Sports & the NY Times, BOTH report Newton cheated academically, 3 times at Florida, 1 his freshman year, twice his sophmore year, you are talking about a deeply flawed character here.

Add the laptop incident, where Cam’s side of the story of buying a laptop from a guy in a van, then throwing it out the window in a panic, begs research.

Add the ESPN interview where Cam CLAIMS he has NEVER spoken to his own Dad about the biggest story in college football: Did his Dad try to get $$ for him to play for a school?

Never. Not 1 conversation? Really? The #1 sotry in college football for weeks.

Incorruptable? Most think Dad tried to get $180,000 in exchange for Cam’s play.

Well, here’s another opinion:
“Cam Newton is the best player in college football. I just couldn’t vote for him to win the Heisman. This isn’t some sort of protest vote. I’m not trying to make a statement about crooked parents or shady boosters or NCAA loopholes or cockamamie explanations or inexplicable exonerations. The reason I left the Auburn quarterback off my Heisman Trophy ballot is much simpler than that. Four of the five Oklahoman writers with Heisman votes chose Auburn quarterback Cameron Newton, above, but Jenni Carlson decided against it after reading through the Heisman voting rules and NCAA bylaws. Why Cameron Newton will win the Heisman without my vote I’m not sure he’s eligible to win the award. On a night when Newton is sure to make several trips onto the stage at the College Football Awards Show, the trophies he wins tonight will be a precursor to Saturday night’s coronation. Oh, I have no doubt that Newton will win the Heisman. He’s a cinch, a shoo-in, a sure thing. And I had every intention of voting for him when I sat down at my computer Monday afternoon to fill out my ballot. I always like to take one last look at the candidates before voting, but Newton was a for sure No. 1. He not only threw for 28 touchdowns but also ran for 20 more, and he did it playing in the toughest conference in the land. The only question I needed to answer was who else was going on my ballot. Oregon running back LaMichael James? Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck? Oklahoma State wide receiver Justin Blackmon? Boise State quarterback Kellen Moore? After poring over statistics and weighing my options, I finally decided how to vote: 1. Newton, 2. Luck, 3. Blackmon. I typed in their names and their schools. I checked the spelling. All I needed to do was enter my e-mail address so a confirmation letter could be sent my way, then hit the “Submit My Vote” button. But I happened to glance at the top of the ballot and the bold words “Rules Governing the Vote” caught my eye. I started reading.

“In order that there will be no misunderstanding regarding the eligibility of a candidate, the recipient of the award MUST be a bona fide student of an accredited college or university including the United States Academies. The recipient must be in compliance with the bylaws defining an NCAA Student-Athlete.”

An alarm went off in my head. Compliance with the bylaws? According to bylaw 12.3.3., NCAA rules do not allow individuals or entities to represent a prospective student-athlete for compensation to a school for an athletic scholarship. Those words come directly from an NCAA press release, an edict issued a week ago addressing Newton’s eligibility. It went on to say that, “According to facts of the case agreed upon by Auburn University and the NCAA enforcement staff, the student-athlete’s father and an owner of a scouting service worked together to actively market the student-athlete as a part of a pay-for-play scenario in return for Newton’s commitment to attend college and play football.” To me, that sounds like a violation of the bylaws. To me, that means Newton isn’t in compliance and isn’t eligible to win the Heisman. Yes, I recognize the NCAA has declared Newton eligible, but it has also said that reinstatement often concludes before an investigation is closed. This thing ain’t over. But regardless of what may happen with Newton down the road — it may be hard to believe, but I gave no thought to Reggie Bush’s vacated Heisman — I didn’t decide to leave him off my ballot because of future considerations. I left him off because the Heisman rules say that recipients must be in compliance with NCAA bylaws, and in the NCAA’s own press release, it said bylaw 12.3.3 had been violated in the Newton case. I went back to my ballot and started hitting the delete button. The ballot that I submitted: 1. Luck, 2. Blackmon, 3. Moore. Newton will win the Heisman without me.
I just had to vote my conscience.”

As Jeff pointed out, the thing that catches my attention the most, (and I have mentioned this in other pages) is that the commissioner states that the SEC is going to be closing the “loophole”. That would indicate to me that their is going to be new language that would have changed the results of his playing those last few ballgames.

I would also be willing to bet that when the NCAA revises thier rules on this, it will NOT be in favor of having a grater burden of proof of intent. It will be more iron clad.

If this had happened back in the summer, the AU fans would have been looking forward to the second game of the year when he was reinstated after sitting out the opener for recruiting violations. And everybody could have feigned thier indignation, how the NCCAA needs to be more subjective, how unfair it is to punish a school for something a player’s Dad did, yes a rule WAS broken, but he said this and that, and no money “actually” exchanged, but, but, but………and the NCAA would have been quite unmoved by any of it.

In Alabama, cheating is as much a part of the football lore as the houndstooth hat worn by Bear Bryant and that purty dress worn by Mike DuBose’s secretary.

Alabama has seen it all over the last 20 years. Shady loans. Athletes illicitly accepting cash payments from agents and boosters. Multiple probations. Postseason bans. Scholarship reductions. Lack of institutional control. You name it, the Crimson Tide has done it.

Welcome to Alabama, where the NCAA probations are nearly as prevalent as national championships. Actually, in the last decade, Alabama has recorded more NCAA probations (three) than it has national titles (one).

I don’t understand how you can be so offended when a Georgia player steals a $35 scooter helmet, but so forgiving when a Heisman trophy candidate buys a stolen $1000 laptop for $120, paints it a different color, and throws it out the window when the cops catch him, resulting in an arrest, and cheats 3 times academically over a 2 year period.

Which is it:
1) $35 theft of a scooter helmet is wrong
2) $120 purchase of $1000 laptop, trying to get rid of it when cops bust him, and cheating academically 3 times over a 2 year period, and father trying to extort $180,000 for his son to play, rather than wait 12 months on a big NFL paycheck?

You seem to show moral outrage over little things Georgia players do, and you seem to show no outrage when it’s Cam Newton.

Chris Dodd and Barny Frank refused to allow ANY changes that Bush envisioned to slow down the dangerous lending practices by the banks on home mortgages. These organizations insured them or guranteed a secondary market would exist for the SCAM NEWTON type of loans to folks like Pastor Newton with a sketchy past.

Perfect metaphor SUB PRIME is …………perfect. Any thing to advance the liberal agenda with folks that are shady or sketchy or UNQUALIFIED which Scam Newton was for college. Cna he play ball? Can Barney Frank blow a horn?? You betcha !!!

In another thread here, there were three links to reputable news outlets that prove the allegations of Cam Newton cheating at Florida are false.
Apparently nobody over there read the linked stories, so I’m not going to bother posting those links again. Anyway, either Thayer Evans lied when he wrote that story or his claimed “anonymous source” lied to Evans.

Like it or not, Jeff is correct on this one. There will be no “stripping” later. Quoting Lars Anderson, writer for Sports illustrated during a radio interview yesterday: “Sources inside the NCAA tell me that the Cam Newton question is settled. It’s over, dead. People need to move along.”

This is the ole “if 100 journalists jump off a cliff, would you?”

Same reason journalist said Alabama wold repeat as National Champions.

It was irrational, but the journalist didn’t want to look dumb by stating an unpopular minority position.

Journalists don’t like to be “out of the majority club”.

They usually let majority opinion make their decisions for them.

The AU family is very proud. Team is 13-0, SEC Champs and headed to the BCS game, Cam Newton to win Heisman, Nick Fairley has won the Lombardi award, Coach Chizik is National Coach of the Year and things have never looked brighter on The Plains.

To those of you hanging on to the delusional hope that something bad will happen to Auburn because of the dealings in Mississippi, here’s some advice from Sports Illustrated writer Lars Anderson on a radio show yesterday: “Sources inside the NCAA tell me that the Cam Newton thing is concluded. It’s over, dead. Period. People need to move on to something else.”

Y’all Dawgs need to worry about why, with four top-ten recruiting classes on your team the best they can do is 6-6. Enjoy Memphis. The AJC sports blogs are not truly representative of a cross sampling. It is a sub-culture with mostly repeat participants entering their opinion about whatever the hot topic is at the moment. And anyone who is honest will acknowledge that the blogs are full of finger pointing and mud slinging, not exactly a source of unbiased, thoughtful insight (with a few exceptions). I’m just as biased as the next college football fan. So, Jeff, what exactly is your point again?

DENYING is an important part of this young man’s life. One day I hope Cam will discover the importance of telling the truth in life.

The more I think about it the more I’m believing that Myer’s quitting – again – was because he was pee-oohed because he couldn’t keep Newton for the past two years, and the likely two more National Championships Florida would have won. I mean, how big a head would this guy have grown if he could boast of four NCs in six years….nobody would have ever ‘topped’ it.

Why do I think it? First, a coach that would ‘rationalize’ an on-camera,, eye-gouging, with a two quarters ’sitting’ – in the damn Vandy game for God’s sake…along with more rationalizing of a death threat to a player’s former girl-friend (ever wonder why she stopped seeing him in the first place?), along with a series of ‘happenings’ surrounding his players the never seemed to have cost him, the players or the team any real penalties – of consequence anyway. Now you’re trying to tell me that that coach would have allowed the obvious best QB in the country – or on his team for that matter – to get away over a little thing like ‘receipt of stolen merchandise’ – that they managed to keep him from being charged with by the way – and whatever stuff he did that they had long-since excused him for. No way. My bet is that Foley and/or the schools administration said ‘enough is enough’ and forced Urban to ‘let him leave’…I mean they even said he could claim it was because he wasn’t going to get enough playing time – so he decided to play for some JC in Texas instead?

Point being that UM, first, realized that if he had had Cam to ’spell’ Tebow last year, and Cam to play Cam this year, he would very well have won the last two Championships…and the egotistical competitor that he is, can’t get over it.

I grew up poor and in a modest home that needed tons of repairs and paint. Our church needed the same. We are poor African Americans and we did not bring any of this on ourselves.

When I cam home from JUCO ( remember I was by then AA QB ) our home looked like the Georgia governor’s mansion and moma was driving a Jaguar AND a Porche SUV and our church??? It looked like the National Cathedral in DC. Wow!! MY dad’s wardrobe looked like a was a Captain in Tony Soprano’s family and the rings on Daddy’s finger blinded me. Moma must have gotten some Botox and silicone injections too ………… because she looked like she was 32. Maybe she really is 32.

Our condo ( s ) in Destin were some fun destinations and we always stopped and had lunch and adult beverages at Victoyland dog track.Daddy and moma never lost a bet!!! They are inately smart, I guess.

From Bo to Cam, ranking the top Heisman seasons of past 25 years

1. Barry Sanders, RB, Oklahoma State (1988). To this day, no one has approached Sanders’ staggering 11-game totals: 2,628 rushing yards and 37 touchdowns. Both remain FBS records. The closest running back that year, Indiana’s Anthony Thompson, had 1,546 yards and 26 TDs. Sanders earned 559 first-place votes to runner-up Rodney Peete’s 70.

2. Cam Newton, QB, Auburn (2010). If the season ended today, Newton would break the NCAA record for pass efficiency (188.1). He threw for 2,589 yards, ran for 1,409 and accounted for 49 touchdowns (including one receiving). Newton’s 307.5 total yards per game isn’t significantly higher than Luck’s (290.8), but Newton has accounted for 18 more touchdowns and beaten six ranked opponents compared to one each for Luck and Moore.

3. Tim Tebow, QB, Florida (2007). Production-wise, Tebow’s season holds a slight edge over Newton’s. Tebow accounted for more total yards (321.6) and touchdowns (51) while posting a nearly identical 29-to-6 TD-to-interception ratio (Newton: 28-to-6) and a slightly lower passer rating (178.8). The difference: Tebow led his team to a 9-3 record, not a 13-0 mark, and had a more comparable peer in Oklahoma’s Sam Bradford, that year’s No. 1 passer.

You heard here first. If SEC were smart about expansion, they would support APP St. in ascending to DIV-I, then invite them into SEC. App would become the darling of the state of NC, and open the NC market wide up for the SEC. Boone is Denver east. (Problem is, they would be mopping up on SEC teams in short order soon.) Jeff Schultz.

I suspect if the last of the Newton family peccadilloes stopped with Cam’s UF issues, then the Heisman voters you ridicule as holier than thou would be far more likely to cast their vote solely based on what transpired on the football field in 2010.

But a reasonable person can build a house of well-founded suspicion on a foundation of facts. Cam Newton did knowingly buy a stolen laptop; he tried to hide the evidence and was savvy enough to dummy up with the cops until his lawyer was present. Cam Newton did perpetrate academic fraud at UF and Reverend Cecil did shop his son’s talent for money.

None of this stuff makes Cam or his old man Public Enemy 1 and 1A. But unless you’ve got blinders on, it certainly generates skepticism toward claims that Cam’s recruitment and matriculation at Auburn are above reproach.

I agree that suspicion of cheating does not proof make, so play on Cam and congrats to you for the honors bestowed in recognition of your football talents.

But if I’m a Heisman voter, I may not want to be played for a chump and see my 2010 vote flushed down the crapper if and when further investigation proves cheating in fact occurred.

On the other hand, this year’s Heisman voting shouldn’t be close. Cam’s hands down the best player. If I was a voter, I’d hold my nose and cast my ballot with him as #1.

Maybe they can interview Eric Ramsey on this story – he is still with us, ain’t he? I mean he didn’t have to go into a witness protection thing or something?

Say what you will about Georgia fans…and you probably should, after all, you gave us Joel Eaves and Vince Dooley and all you got was Pat Dye – oh yeah, you got Cam Newton too…so obviously we’re way up on you in that regard. But just remember, the more you rag on about all this the more contrite you’ll have to be when the ‘truth outs’. The way I see it, you’ll either have to keep on denying that it’s ’so’ – you know like Cam’s cohort at UF on that laptop thing that kept telling him to do while he was in handcuffs and the cops were reading the ‘text messages’…how ‘dumb and dumber’ was that?…Or, you’re gonna find yourself shaking your head in disbelief in between hanging it in shame….assuming you’re capable of shame over something like this.

You dawgs sound like a bunch of little kids with your “the FBI will get you” stuff. The FBI is not investigating Auburn. Get over it.

The NCAA and SEC investigations are over and Auburn and Cam Newton are cleared. Get over it.

It’s been proven by three different news sources that the story about Cam Newton cheating at UF is a lie. Get over it.

It’s been proven by those same three sources that Cam Newton was in good academic standing with the University of Florida when he left there. Get over it.

It’s been proven that Cam Newton was in good standing with the UF football program when he left there. Get over it.

You’ve been duped by a couple of unscrupulous journalists that were trying to get more hits on their websites. Get over it and be smarter next time.

In the meantime, I’ll let y’all know what it’s like to go out to the desert and play for the National Championship. 13-0, It’s great to be an Auburn Tiger!

Whats the word that is always being used in regards to Heisman canadiates (INTEGRITY)- Cam has admitted to the computer scam/theft and also the student paper’s but these problems are being pushed under the rug because at this time there is no money trail (COMON MAN) are we really suppose to be considered that dumb. THE HEISMEN IS GOING TO ADD TO ANOTHER CHARGE OF THEIVERY. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jeff,

The Heisman is an award given to the “outstanding college football player whose performance best exhibits the pursuit of excellence with integrity.”

Note the word “integrity” in the Heisman mission statement…

Newton doesn’t “deserve” anything. Guys that play hard, don’t cheat, don’t steal laptops, don’t throw them out windows, don’t lie, don’t punch other players on the field, and don’t lie on the ground faking injuries to eat more clock time…players that don’t lack integrity “deserve” the Heisman…

That’s not moralistic. That’s the truth.

Classy post. You sound like a d*uche-bag, so it’s not surprising that you would defend fellow a$$wipe Cam Newton. FYI…you can actually pull for Auburn and be disappointed with the actions/integrity of your QB…of course, that takes humility and self-confidence, something most Auburn fans lack. Enjoy the desert…hope Oregon win.

Scam Newton is thug. He didn’t buy stolen laptops. He stole it. The only reason he’s not in jail is because the owner of the laptop decided not to pursue it. He was caught cheating numerous times. He stole a paper that was not his, and was caught signing his name to it. He also had numerous traffic violations. Then there was the whole mess as Auburn and MSU. Couple that with his pathetic “look at me, aren’t I special” routine before and after every game. The clown has no integrity.

He needs to look up the word “humility” in the dictionary, and then display some. Then again, he probably doesn’t know what the word means, and I’m sure he can’t spell. As for him being a student-athlete, don’t make laugh. He’s not a student in any sense of the word. He’s simply being kept eligible by that joke of an academic institution named Auburn University.

The Heisman Memorial Trophy annually recognizes the outstanding college football player whose performance best exhibits the pursuit of excellence with integrity. Winners epitomize great ability combined with diligence, perseverance, and hard work. The Heisman Trophy Trust ensures the continuation and integrity of this award. The Trust, furthermore, has a charitable mission to support amateur athletics and to provide greater opportunities to the youth of our country. Our goal through these charitable endeavors is for the Heisman Trophy to symbolize the fostering of a sense of community responsibility and service to our youth, especially those disadvantaged or afflicted. All assets of the Trust beyond the expense of maintaining the annual presentation of the Heisman Memorial Trophy are reserved for such charitable causes. The Trustees, who all serve pro bono, are guided by a devotion to college football and are committed to community service and the valued tradition which the Trophy represents.

If you voted for Cam you did not follow the mission…..

Cam will get the Heisman. The word “integrity” is being etched out as we speak. For those who choose to ignore facts….stole the computer, cheated several times at UF. I guess he was in “good standing” ’cause everyone turned a “blind eye” to his lack of integrity ’cause he is a good football player…wink, wink. Now his father solicited a payment for Cam’s play….fact, at MSU. He admitted it. Now Cam has said that he and his father are so “tight” BUT he didn’t know about the proposed bribe, wink, wink. Defies logic and common sense. BUT, Cam chose where he would play not his father, wink, wink. His father is a pastor or at least a purported one. Please cite for me the Book, Chapter and Verse in his father’s Bible where it says “Go forth and solicit funds from all institutions of higher learning ’cause my son is a talented athlete.” Just so we are clear, father and son are corrupt in the very literal sense of the word. It make take some time but the truth will be revealed. Auburn and Chizik, enjoy this brief interlude before reality slaps you up side of heads.

Hey Thuga fans,

Its been 4 weeks since the beatdown of the Thugs in Auburn. Since that time:
a) Auburn has won the SEC Championship
b) Cam Newton has won 3 Awards and will win the Heisman tonight.
c) Coach Chizik has won the Coach of the Year
d) Nick Fairley has won the Lombardi award.
e) Auburn is ranked # 1
f) Auburn is headed to Glendale For BCS Title Game
g) Thuga had to rely on Tech to miss an extra point to be bowl eligible so they could play in the lowly Liberty Bowl.
h) Red Panties have sold out at Walmart
i) Thuga merchandise has been reduced for quick sale in all the stores.

The danger in not giving him the trophy when he was clearly the best player is that it would have given motive from this point forward for every single candidate to have all their dirty laundry and their family’s dirty laundry paraded in front of the nation each year. And you know there would been very little regard to if any of the slime campaigns were actually true. The Heisman would become a contest not of athletic ability but of which school and fan base could best sling mud at everyone else.

The SEC decided no infractions had been committed by Auburn in regards to money or the cheap shots by the players, I hope they enjoy their Christmas gifts, I know they will be some nice ones. By awarding the Heisman to Fig Newton, this will foster crap to continue for future players who decide to stray, and be awarded for their actions. Amazing. Someone may have cheated before so we should have no problem with this one. And the innocent to proven guilty crowd must think they are in court of law. The NCAA can take action on far less–as is the case with most administrative agencies. Still, even in court much is accepted as proven by quality inference. You know one of those operations of logic. I could go on but many of you seem incapable of critical thinking. Also belief JS is in bad need of mouthwash. Some places were not meant for kissing.

Did notice Cam was not an All American. Also noted that the undefeated one did not win SEC coach of the year. Seems a little integrity is hanging around. Probably not for much longer with the likes of JS.

Apparently the alligations of a stolen laptop and falsified term papers (i go to college. Facts? The SEC Bylaw 14.01.3.2 is very clear that you do not have to RECIEVE benefits to be inelegible, just an AGREEMENT TO RECEIVE benefits by an agent or family member, makes the athlete inelegible.

The truth is, the facts are, Cecil agreed to received money for play.

When it all shakes out, Cam Newton will digrace Auburn.

The facts are, the Heisman Mission statement states there are 2 requirements for the Heisman Trophy winner, here’s the standard, regardless of how journalists feel, here are the facts.

1) Excellent performance
2) with integrity

The OPINIONS of writers don’t take precedent over the INTENTIONS of the Heisman fund.

It is ridiculous for you to compare Newton to Mark Ingram’s situation. Ingram’s Dad did his crime when his son was 12 and it had nothing to do with football and its regulations.

The college football game we knew and loved took a major hit yesterday. Gone is the sportsmanship, the integrity, and the STUDENT athlete. The sportswriters had an opportunity to do what Mike Slive (SEC) and Mark Emmert (NCAA) did’nt have the balls to do. The sportswriters could have rightened the ship.

There’s a cummulative effect to this Newton thing that reeks of a bad odor. Laptop stolon from room 303 when Cam lived in room 306 and laptop was found in Newton’s room–painted, cheat academically, cheat again, cheat again, Preacher man Dad tries and extort $180,000, Dad banned from school events with his son, Cam claiming he has never spoken to his dad about the charge????, etc.

Jeff worte about the cummaltive effect. If that’s the standard, no one shold have voted for Cam Newton.

One article for you:

http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/news?slug=rivals-1150363

FoxSports.com writer Thayer Evans published a story today alleging Auburn quarterback Cameron Newton “had three different instances of academic cheating while attending the University of Florida.”

The story follows several days of editorial attacks on Newton by Thayer, a former stringer for the New York Times.

Two independent sources with detailed knowledge of the UF academic discipline system during the period in question have disputed the Evans story. According to the sources, no allegations of academic impropriety regarding Cam Newton were sent to the Florida Student Conduct Committee at any time either during or after Newton’s time at UF.

“Nothing was reported, officially or unofficially” says one source, who did not wish to be identified. “The formal process is for allegations to go through the Student Conduct Committee. If [any allegations against Newton] didn’t follow that process, then they didn’t follow the rules.”

Newton enrolled at Florida in the spring of 2007 and transferred to Blinn College in January of 2009.

Per the source, no charges against Newton were ever brought to the Student Conduct Committee during that time.

The source also indicated that no Florida football players have ever been officially reported to the UF Student Conduct Committee for academic violations during Urban Meyer’s tenure.

According to the source, student arrests are subject to additional discipline via the Student Conduct Committee, but it is not uncommon for students in such situations “to cut a deal with the Dean of Students’ office before coming to the Committee.”

At the time of Newton’s enrollment at UF, if attempts to informally settle academic disputes failed, academic violations issues were referred from the Dean of Students office to the Student Conduct Committee, where a hearing chaired by a member of the UF Honor Board would be conducted.

No charges against Newton, to the first source’s knowledge, were ever sent to the UF Student Conduct Committee.

A second, independently verified source, also with detailed knowledge of the Florida student disciplinary system, took issue with Thayer’s assertion that Newton, had he actually been charged with academic misconduct, would have been in danger of expulsion. “I worked ten or twelve cases,” the second source says, “and I never saw anyone get expelled.”

The second source, who also declined to be identified, also says no charges regarding Newton were ever brought to the Student Conduct Committee, noting, “If Cameron Newton would have come before the committee, we would have known about it.”

The second source also expressed indignation over the possible leak of student information to the media.

“That is completely confidential. We’re not allowed to say anything to anyone.

“The person that was in charge of [students’] academic records is a very ethical person. Someone like him would never have released anything.”

Being the best player, which he is, doesn’t make him Heisman worthy. The award has now lost any integrity it had left. The show yesterday was an embarrassment to ESPN, the NCAA and college football in general. To all the Newton apologists…I have some ocean front property in Arizona for sale. Only $180K. Just please make it in cash and donate it to my church…..$cam Newton

Inference is not fiction. Inference is used regularly in logic and in court. The facts we know about Cam, family, and Auburn renders dirt the better case. But you have remained in pucker mode and refuse to acknowledge the role of inference. So, you continue to kiss a rather peculiar part of the body. I shall send mouthwash.

Fact: Cam’s daddy was pimping him out to the highest bidder.

Fiction: Cam and Mommy didn’t have a clue as to what daddy was doing….

Fiction: College football is a farm league for the NFL….

Fact: You Are Clueless

Hey GT4ever do you know more than the NCAA? They said Cam was not aware of his father’s actions. What part of that do you not understand? It is NOT a fact that he “Pimped him out” to the highest bidder! You are DEAD WRONG!! The only boosters that tried to deliver money were from MSU. You are like all the other hacks of the world. Spread a bunch of misinformation and pass it off as fact. What a clueless individual…..

Like Bush was in 2005, he is the best college football player of the year. Like Bush’s parents, Newton’s dad is going to bring the whole program down and Cam will return the Heisman (another vacated sign) and Auburn may have to vacate a tainted title…

FACTS:

-EVERY rumor involving Cam’s father and Miss St. was found to be true. Magically the only one that wasn’t, Cam’s personal conversations with the Miss. St. contacts.

- Cam’s father’s church has been desperate for money for years. Bordering on being condemned, the church mysteriously gets the exact amount it needed to stay afloat. Coincidentally enough, at the same time as when Cam went to Auburn.

- Bobby Lowder is one of the dirtiest boosters in all of collegiate sports. The FBI is investigating his bank. A bank shared by other equally shady Auburn boosters.

SUSPICIONS :

That Cam’s father REALLY allowed Cam to go to Auburn for free, even though he was found GUILTY of trying to shakedown another school. Hmm……

Let's be serious

December 14th, 2010
12:58 pm

Jeff,

Given what’s already been proven, the magical money that fell from the heavens to bailout Cam’s father’s church that occurred at the same time Cam decided to go to Auburn, the fact Bobby Lowder is an Auburn booster, the only real “suspicions” are if daddy Cam really let his son go to Auburn for free.

He earned it on the field, which is fact. Suspicions are off the field behavior. I am Tech grad of ‘73. I watched this kid outplay Nez this year by mostly passin’. He ran and jumped over defenders like Nez, but he did not run anywhere near as much as Nez. It was his passin’ that won the trophy. That emphasizes the need for CPJ to incorporate passin’ into Tech’s O, and to get the black out of the uniforms with the black stockings and solid side stripes on white backgrounds like Auburn wore as backgrounds this year. This black pleases no one but Erk Russell, Ted Roof and Bill Curry.

Florida, UGA and AU academics

December 15th, 2010
11:12 am

Florida threw Cam Newton out of their school. Period. Class over.

Entrance requirements at UGA vs AU? Please. All of the kids that can afford to, go over to AU or to Ole Miss ( sueprior to AU ) or to SC or to Clemson if they cannot get admitted to UGA or to GT for the HOPE deal. North Fulton and east Cobb are full of AU kids. UGA? They reject tons and tons of highly qualified kids from these two metro $$$ areas who just do not quite hit that SAT requisite. My kids? UGA BABY!! EMORY MBA SCHOOL TOO!!!

All this remedial class talk about UGA? Prove the claim that “UGA has more remedial students than any school in the USA”. Please. EMORY MBA SCHOOL would laugh in your face. Case closed.

Besides …………………….UGA IS THE UNVERSITY OF GEORGIA and AU is the second university in Alabama, unless Spring Hill in Mobile has eclipsed them. AAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHHAHAHA

AU will always always be in the shadow of ALABAMA. ALWAYS IS A LONG TIME.

Maybe this will clear it up

Does this ehlp you AU denial types?

1.) MSU is under an FBI investigation about corruption and MSU ballplayers. WHY? Bribes and possible gambling issues by Scams daddy and um, maybe ………………..Scam himself.
2.) AU IS ALSO under investigation for the same thing. Recruiting is not a jurisdiction of the FBI. THEY ARE concerned only with sleazy crimes like bribes or gambling for money with players, etc.

Now, does this help all of you AU clowns? IT AIN”T OVER till the BUREAU SAYS THAT IT IS.

AU in ATL

December 16th, 2010
3:22 pm

AU fans in denial? These are the facts as of right now.

NCAA said Newton was good to go. Yeah at this time…The NCAA didnt have to say anything. No, its not about the money either. If they thought that there’s more to the Newton case, all the NCAA/SEC has to do is keep silent, let AU and Newton keep playing, let all parties SEC/AU etc. collect BCS money and bring the hammer down any time after the BCS Champ game. Like at USC.

The FBI completed the bribe/casino/dog track investigation in late november. Arrests have been made. trial dates have been set. Currently going through discovery. That means the information gathered during the investigation (wire taps, documents etc.) is being shared by all (defendants and prosecuter judge, etc). To date nothing related to AU/newton/booster has been identified. God knows people have (are) looked.

There is no ongoing investigation at AU by the FBI/NCAA or anyone. The only open investigation being carried at this time is in Newton’s recruitment, primarily as it relates to MSU. No money trail. By all accounts no money has been exchanged anywhere. Financial records have been turned in and reviewed. A few thousand you can hide pretty easy. 10s or 100s spent dollars. No way.

If nothing else, consider that Malzahan decided to stay at AU and not take $3MM at Vandy. Call me crazy, but I bet he knows a little more of what’s going on and what may or not happen at AU in the near future than most.

Cam Newton is awesome, and he’s eligible, and he beat the dawgs worse than Vick did, and he rolled the Tide away…and he’s gonna be the Nat’l Champ QB. Auburn gets a title, like Bama and UF and LSU. dawgs get nada!!!! Gotta luv it. Been a long time since ‘80. By the way, who paid for Herschel’s Trans Am that he drove back in the day?? Lets look into that and then talk about giving back some trophies.
