Richt’s Dogs have struggled against ranked teams

Mark Richt is only 2-7 in his last nine games against ranked teams.

Mark Richt is only 2-7 in his last nine games against ranked teams. (Brant Sanderlin/AJC)

If most are doubting Georgia’s chances of upsetting No. 2 ranked Auburn Saturday, one reason is that the Bulldogs’ five wins have come over Louisiana-Lafayette (2-7), Tennessee (3-6), Vanderbilt (2-7), Kentucky (5-5) and Idaho State (1-8).

But there’s another reason: Mark Richt’s teams have struggled against any team in the top 25, let alone a BCS title contender.

Richt’s Dogs have lost seven of their last nine against ranked teams and are 4-8 since 2008. That includes losses this season to the only two ranked teams they’ve played — No. 24 South Carolina (17-6) and No. 12 Arkansas (31-24).

Contrast that with Georgia going 5-0 against ranked teams in 2007 and 10-1 in a stretch that started in November 2006.

In the recent 2-7 stretch vs. ranked teams, the lone victories came over No. 7 Georgia Tech in 2009 and No. 18 Michigan State in the Capital One Bowl the year before. The losses came to Florida (twice), Georgia Tech, Oklahoma State, LSU, South Carolina and Arkansas.

The breakdowns:

Here’s Mark Richt vs ranked teams year by year:
2001: 2-3
2002: 5-0
2003: 3-3
2004: 2-2
2005: 4-3
2006: 3-2
2007: 5-0
2008: 3-3
2009: 1-3
2010: 0-2
Total: 28-21
Here’s the breakdown since 2008:
2008
#8 Alabama: Lost 41-30
#22 Vanderbilt: Won 24-14
#13 LSU: Won  52-38
#5 Florida: Lost 49-10
#22 Georgia Tech: Lost 45-42
#18 Michigan State: Won 24-12
2009
#9 Oklahoma State: Lost 24-10
#4 LSU: Lost 20-13
#1 Florida: Lost 41-17
#7 Georgia Tech: Won 30-24
2010
#24 South Carolina: Lost 17-6
#12 Arkansas: Lost 31-24

So there are the numbers. How confident are you that  Georgia will buck this trend in Auburn?

UGA will lose to Auburn and then GT will deny them the chance to play in a bowl, meanwhile you UGA fans can watch GT continue on in the season. It’ll be wonderful.

outside of 2006 and shocking Auburn in the wee hours of the morning, the team ranked #12 higher win. by this time of year you know who is good and who is bad and the rankings show it. the chances are ruined for an 06 repeat by two words – Heisman campaign. that means national stage and motivation, oh and a touch of revenge for losing 4 straight.

Auburn will almost equal how much Newton scores, UGA will add points after the game is in hand… Aub 52 UGA 24

Jeff Schultz again doesnt know jack about football. Where do they get these writers…….from Ga. Tech?
Jeff if you would read alittle more you’d find that Mark Richt is the most successful coach in Georgia history, has the best winning pct. among active SEC Coaches. Yes and Urban Meyer is only higher because of Bowling Green and Utah. 5th highest active wins/losses. 12th highest paid. If you google http://www.dawgsports.com and do a comparison on Richts 1st 9 years as HC compared to other greats at Georgia it might enlighten you some as to where he stands.
This hopefully will shut your mouth and stop your campaigning on getting rid of Mark Richt.

With that said I’m looking forward to to going to the plains. Hopefully the dawgs will play at their highest level and with a purpose of mind that winning is the only option.

You UGAG fans are the most dillusional people I have ever seen. In 10 games this year the UGAG team is 5-5 with the wins coming against teams with a combined record of 13-33 but you think your offense and defense is really that good? Come on people learn football before you start opening your mouth. I will be the first to admit I am a GT fan all the way and our team is just not that good this year but at the same time GT’s 5 wins are against teams with a combined record of 22-21 so looking at it right now I would say that GT does have better wins.

UGAG fans never seem to amaze me on how dillusional you really are to think you are going to even play Auburn a close game. Just one time please be honest with yourselves and stop talking out or you arses. True football fans know when to admit what there team really is all about. Auburn wins by at least 2 TD’s.

After reading this, it’s obvious we have not been a factor in the last 3 years except beating the usual suspects….I didn’t know it was this bad……..but it is…….Mark and the Dawgs could go a long way by upsetting Auburn Saturday in the minds and hearts of the fans…..but, Auburn looks unstoppable………. Mark will be back in 2011 and probably beat the usual one’s we feast on, but if we lose the one’s that really coult next year, I don’t know what else this AD needs to see….or it’s just that being champions in Athens is not that important to those in power……Just as long As Mark and Bobo are happy I guess…..

Cam’s due a less-than-stupendous game. Maybe Saturday is the day. Maybe Auburn v UGA , 2010 is the game.

Minimize dumb turnovers on the Dawg’s part, get a couple big kick-off returns and they got a chance.

(After looking over all that data and statistics you laid out, I’ve decided you’re now hanging out with that Sabernomics/Sabermetrics guy)

My thought on the topic is: Interesting, however these figures may not mean quite as much as it seems. A superior metric would be to examine the season win/loss record against final season poll team rankings. (Get your hot intern on that)

If a team is victorious over an opponent in week 1 when the opponent was #20 but ultimately goes 6-6 for the season, did the opponent legitimately deserve to be ranked in week one? And if a team is victorious over an unranked team in week one but the opponent finishes 8-4 in the regular season and ends at #17 in the final polls, wasn’t that actually a quality win in week one?

But back to the stats as we have them. Interesting how for the first 8 years UGA played games against “ranked teams” an average of 5.4 times — with a high of 7 — annually. Fast forward to the last two years. Four “ranked” opponents in 2009, three in 2010. Yet the worst 2 year period of Richt’s career. Sheesh. More fodder for the bug zapper man.

Whoa Nelly. Expect this to be a better game than predicted. Auburn gives up a ton of points (34 to Kentucky, 31 to Mississippi, and 24 to Chattanooga, all in the last month), while the Dawgs have found themselves a top 25 defense. And to my knowledge, A.J. Green hasn’t been suspended this week. But, then again, there’s the reality of our freshman quarterback at the helm on the road in another big game. Remember how that Florida thing went? Auburn, of course, has one of the best quarterbacks money can allegedly buy. I’m just glad the game’s not in Athens this year. All those Auburn fans coming over in their tractors and hay bailers and bush hogs really clog up Highway 78. But, in the end, it looks like 5-6 going into the Tech game. To recap; Tech sucks!

thank goodness Mark has gotten this ship turned in the right direction. Great win Saturday against Idaho State. Now it’s on to Auburn for our date with destiny. Nothing will stop this team from reaching it’s potential. That potential hasn’t even topped out yet and I expect Auburn to go ahead and put these Dawgs down and out of their misery so they can then get on back to Athens and get the partying started. We haven’t seen yet how this team can perform downtown Athens after getting a proper beating administered by a really good team. This schedule that Georgia has played has been the easiest in 20 years and this is what Mark Richt has wrought. The job he’s done actually makes Nancy Pelosi look like a success. When you have Joe Cox last year, starting with very little game experience, gonna lose a lot of games. This year, repeat same mistake, you have Aaron Murrsy starting, with no game experience, gonna lose a lot of games.

Compound that with the decision to hire a defensive coach that runs a 3-4 scheme, and then, on top of trying to get through another season with a QB without exerience, Georgia also has to make it through the learning curve on defense, without the 3-4 body types to run it.

Add to that te 4 game suspension from AJ, and you can see Georgia is lucky to have 5 wins.

I expected Georiga to finish 4-8 in 2010, so they’ve exceeded my expctations, but I don’t see another win this season.

Hey, dawgfan: Tech alumni and fans have lives that don’t depend entirely on what a bunch of kids does on Saturday afternoons. College sports are fun to follow, but the biggest reason for going to college is to get an education.

UGA fans don’t seem to care about anything but football, and they don’t care if their players are enrolled in silly majors that no parents who are paying the bills would send their kids to UGA for. The very few football and basketball players who graduate have no job opportunities and end up unemployed or working in menial jobs that hardly require a college degree.

Georgia Tech is a real school with serious academic standards, and that includes scholarshipped athletes. UGA has a long history of being a party school, where parents send their kids for an easy degree, even if the degree itself is practically worthless.

Jan Kemp exposed the crap going on at UGA with athletes being enrolled in courses a ten-year-old kid could pass. That was almost three decades ago, and nothing has changed. If anything, the abuses are more blatant today. Way too many illiterate morons are being recruited, and the very high arrest rate shows clearly that Richt does not care if his players have any morals or self-discipline.

The bottom line is that most Tech fans have very good jobs and productive lives that don’t depend on Tech’s football record for their happiness in life. It would be great to beat UGA more often, but when you put scholar-athletes up against dummy-athletes, it’s usually no contest.

It’s pretty pathetic to see UGA fans who typically have never been within miles of a college classroom and who live or die with UGA’s weekly results on the football field.

So keep on posting your “30-24″ all you want, especially since you’re home with plenty of time on your hands. I wish you well, maybe you’ll get lucky and get your old job back at the Waffle House before your unemployment checks stop coming

JB, you really think Richt can go 8-4 next season? Losing AJ, Durham, and Houston? Optimistic.

What’s crazy is the Dawg improved in all four areas that cost them games last year: defensive scoring, penalties, special teams, and turnover/takeover ratio. And they still may lose more games this year than last.

Kenneth

Alabama went 7-6 in 2007, in their 1st year installing the 3-4, it’s just a complex defense to learn, and without the correct personell in year one to run it, Saban went 7-6 in 2007. If Georgia loses to Auburn, and beats Ga Tech, they’ll be 6-6, win the Bowl game, that’s 7-6, which is exactly where Saban finished his first yea rinstaling the 3-4.

good to know Richt’s keeping up with Nick Saban’s trajectory so far with the new 3-4 defense.

Hank

November 8th, 2010
8:26 am

Since Saban went 7-6 in 2007, his year one with getitng the new 3-4 defense going, Georgia was expected to go 7-6 at best, but add in starting a freshman QB, that has cost georgia at least 1 loss to Florida. Add in the 4 game suspension to AJ Green, that has cost Georgia at least one more loss to Arkansas. So, 5-7, considering those 3 developments, is about where Saban would have fnished with the same stuff going on.

Not too many people expected Richt’s team in 2010 to beat Saban’s team in 2007 as far as defensive stats go: Georgia’s hoding the competition to less than 20 points a game, Saban gave up over 22 his year 1 with the new 3-4 defense in 2007. So Richt is ahead of the game. Both will likely end up wit a 7-6 record in year 1 with the 3-4, BUT, BUT, Richt ALSO had a Freshman QB, and a 4 game suspension to his #1 player.

They are so alike I guess Richt will take UGA to 14-0 and win the BCS Championship in 2012?

Yeah, right. Richt had his chances in ‘02, ‘05, and ‘07 but lost to inferior teams (UF, UF, SC). Now the SEC has at least a half-dozen coaches as good or better as Richt.

From a historical perspective – AUBURN – UGA is always an interesting game. Both programs mirror each other – and have generally been solid.

This year – I think Auburn has too much to lose and they have jelled into a very good team. As a result – The Auburn train has gained momentum and look what they are pursuing – Undefeated season, SEC WEST Title this weekend, National Title implications, Heisman spotlight …….. and you guys think a 5-5 team is going to beat Auburn?

It’s great being optimistic – but this is the same group that really thought UGA was going to beat Florida????

How many UGA fans thought they were going to beat South Carolina?
How many UGA fans thought they were going to beat Arkansas?
How many UGA fans thought they were going to beat Mississippi State?
How many UGA fans thought they were going to beat Colorado? COLORADO???? What did Colorado do before and after their game against
UGA???? I know the answer – LOSE FOOTBALL GAMES!!!
How many UGA fans thought they were going to beat a “down” Florida team?

I think UGA is going to play hard – but the difference between the two teams this year is night and day. Auburn will be running away with this game – and UGA will focus on beating GT to finish the year .500

In the 1986 Jan Kemp trial, O. Hale Almand Jr., a lawyer for UGA, offered a justification for the favorable treatment accorded the athletes, citing a hypothetical player. “We may not make a university student out of him,” he told the jury, “but if we can teach him to read and write, maybe he can work at the post office rather than as a garbageman when he gets through with his athletic career.”

That trial exposed UGA for the football factory that it was, and exposed Vince Dooley as a fraud and a sleazebag. It also derailed Dooley’s plans for a political career. That’s why we see the decrepit old fraud doing TV commercials even now.

Mark Richt is just the latest in a line of sleazy UGA coaches who coddle athletes and discard them after four years of football. He recruits illiterate morons he knows aren’t smart enough for college, but he doesn’t care, as long as they help him line his pockets with millions of dollars each year.

Georgia also lost 3 DL to the NFL. Hard to have a good year with all that going on: Freshman QB, new 3-4 defense without the right personell, 4 game suspension to top player AJ Green, losing 3 DL to NFL.

But for Richt to match Saban’s 2007 7-6 record when Saban was putting in his new 3-4 at Alabama, is a good goal.

Dogville barks and boasts that Auburn will fall to their beloved dogs. It could happen and I could win a lottery, however one must look at the Richt’s won loss record as Mr. Schultz has done. Racking up on hapless teams does not endear a football program to greatness. Arguments have been made regarding coaching those five star recruits Richt seems to attract. 75-76 Dog has it correct, Bobo will be the coach to fall on the sword for Richt and Richt will be a saint once more.

Buck this trend? You did all of this research, well what do you think the record is of teams against the No. 2 team in the country. I am sure the No. 2 team wins about 95% of the time that why they are No. 2. Whether we beat Auburn or not this “trend” will not have anything to do with it. And if we had managed to beat a ranked team, at say No. 24, somewhere earlier this season I doubt our chance at Auburn would be any better. You guys keep circling looking for new angles to kick Richt and UGA. As an alumi and fan I know the Dawgs haven’t been good this year, and at times they have been terrible. Beating Auburn would be great but it is not going to change this into something great. Only winning next year will change things, so stop beating a dead Horse (dawg).

Based on how the year has gone, it is likely Georgia gets blown out in this game. However if I were an Auburn fan I would be pretty nervous based on Georgia’s success in Jordan-Hare over the last 12 years. Also, Georgia can’t be any worse than Clemson….. so despite how good they have looked recently I still think Auburn is very vulnerable. Any team capable of giving up 24 points to Chattanooga is beatable.

It’s going to unfold similarly in Auburn. By the way, there is no plain in Auburn. THAT “plain” is a plain from a Scottish poem referring to a plain in Auburn, Scotland. Auburn has never been able to get their mascots straight (Tigers, Plainsmen, War Eagles) and thry can’t even get their heritage straight.

The “difference”.. is apathy.
Win it all one year….and the motivation is gone the next. They gotta “want it more”.

Of course we’re nervous about GA. Every game makes me nervous but so far, no team has been able to stop our offense. Yeah, we gave up 24 points because of our second string defense that was put in at the half. We also scored 62 points.

If UGA can put up 62 points then you might beat us. Chances are, you won’t. The Clempson game was early on in the season before we hit our stride. It was the most physical game we’ve played all year and Clempson hasn’t been the same since.

In a world with sports agents, rogue alumni and backbiting rivals, the days of the gentleman’s handshake are gone. No program can trust another in this atmosphere.

There were probably few who were surprised when Florida coach Urban Meyer’s name emerged on Friday as the source of The New York Times article that brought into question Newton’s recruitment from Blinn Junior College in Texas.

While there were strong denials from Meyer and former Miss St. quarterback John Bond, who sits at the center of the controversy, we’ve all been taught the smoke and fire metaphor.

Believe what you will, I see fire.

In the span of two seasons, Meyer has become a shell of his former success. He now looks the part of the desperate coach who’s watched his program crash like Nancy Pelosi on election night.

With his player arrest record rising faster than unemployment and questions of whether he can win without Tim Tebow, Auburn should be the least of his concerns.

Watch Meyer today and you see the paranoia of Richard Nixon and a coach who more closely resembles Ron Zook than Steve Spurrier. Inserting himself into the Newton story has to make Gator fans shake their heads.

Doesn’t he have enough problems with the Florida players who haven’t left?

Richt has a better record than Sabana against ranked teams in his career. Richt has 6 top 10 finishes, Saban doesn’t. Richt has 4 top 10 finishes in a row, Saban doesn’t. Richt’s never had a season, as a head coach, or assistant coach, where he won less than 8 games in a season in 24 years of coaching. Richt’s won 75% of his games, Saban 70%. Yes, Saban gets lucky once a decade, but overall, Richt’s a better, more consistent coach than Saban, more highs, more wins, less lows.

IF UGA were to handle Auburn and GT and then go to some low level bowl and win, I still say that CMR should be fired. He will not be …………ONLY because we have to pay him $ millions either way and the Athletic Board of Directors is aware of that ugly reality. UGA for now is stuck with Mark Richt.

He will be mildly “put on notice” by AD Greg McGarity to win the East next year. The UGA alumni are terribly divided over this matter and the administrators do not want that ………..it affects $$$ contributions and general enthsiasm about the university. Folks, I have seen this before EVEN when Dooley was HC around 69 and 70. UGA then was very, very sub par and the students ( i was one ) wanted him long gone.

So for now, UGA faithful, we are stuck with another ugly year in 2011 possibly. Richt simply does not have the high caliber of coaches to run a powerhouse team. Watch the off season when not one of their coaches is offered a job ……………and compare to MSU’s staff or Auburn’s,etc.

If we destroy GTin Athens like 54-20 that will make up for some of the grief that this typical MR 2010 team has produced. Also, next summer with more of the same after hours player’s crap …………… look out.

Sabin has to play in the SEC WEST.

In case you haven’t noticed, there are about 6 stadiums where it is extremelly difficult for the visiting team to win in the SEC.

The mountain of the Alabama line (Cody)went to the NFL-with a bunch of winners. This past weekend, LSU managed to get an entire game out of the
QB’s.

For the Georgia fans, and Kenneth in particular, Sabin went to the Independence Bowl with the desire to build a better team for the following year–and didn’t gripe about being in Shreveport.

If you believe Sabin and Bama are having a down year, wait till the Iron Bowl in Tuscaloosa.

As for Georgia, I hope you win because Iam4LSU, but the Auburn team, who has an eagle for a mascot, not a tiger, is the real deal. AU should enjoy the Cam, because he will not be back next year.

Jeff,
Why is it exactly that you tend to spin most of your UGA columns negatively? Why is it that you seem to want CMR fired? What is the “radix”–the root issue? CMR’s record stands tall. It is without question that he is the finest coach in UGA history–and that is not the ranting of a drunken man. The stats prove the story. How bout a positive column on Richt? How about interviewing former players all who sing his praises? What do you say? I read you regularly my friend–but wow–it just looks like there could sometimes be a positive column on CMR. Perhaps you could sit down and talk with the man. Thanks.

“We want to play where we’ll be proud of our effort, and we want the Bulldog Nation to be proud of the way we play,” Georgia coach Mark Richt said Sunday. “We just want to respect the game of football, to the point that every day we practice and every time we play, we play in such a way that we can feel good about it when we go on the field that next Monday, or whatever day it is. That’s what we’re looking for. That’s what I’m looking for, anyway.”

Here’s what I take away from Mark’s above stated quote. We are going to play “hard” and play with “respect”, putting forth “effort”, so we can “feel good” about ourselves and “proud” of our accomplishment. Nowhere in that statement do you see “expect” or “excellence”, or “we are going to put together a great game plan”, or “the players will be ready to compete and win”. This is what bothers me most about Mark and his thought process. He would rather be “proud” in defeat, have his players “respect the game” & “feel good about ourselves” without expectation of winning.

GA lost to SCar, ARK & MissSt. Murray was really ‘green’ against SCar & ARK, and GA was w/o AJ also. GA lost to a terrible Colo. team –can’t explain that one except for maybe GA was tanked by their 3 losses in a row, and the fact that Bobo called an awful game by not getting AJ into the game until the 2nd quarter, then AJ left w/ cramps for most of the 3rd, then the fumble that was setting up the game winning field-goal..anyway, strange things happen (James Madison beat VaTech, who beat GaTech). Then there’s the FL game…that’s an expected loss because FL beats GA every-other year, then GA beats itself the rest of the time. So, with that being said, AU has had a few close game–the game w/ KEN comes to mind where AU needed a last-second miracle to pull that win out –a team that GA handled with ease. AU pass D is weak, the game is being played at AU (visitor usually wins), AU is due to have a slip-up, GA has won the last 4 games against AU, are just a few reasons GA’s chances are good to beat AU.

Jeff-

No, the reason we’re doubtng gergia wins this game, are not what you wrote, no because Richt’s ONLY 28-21 against ranked team (is that bad compared to Saban’s record???)

They’re:
1- Freshman QB who does freshman stuff like throw 3 interceptions in 1 game & get sacked twice by Idaho State.
2- Brand new 3-4 defensive scheme, who even defensive gurus like Saban, struggled in their first year implemnting the 3-4 defense, especially hard for Grantham in year 1, because he got to Georgia so late, Grantham wasn’t able to recruit his ideal physical types to run his scheme the way he envisions it, he’s just using the existing players, and pluggin part sin, that really don’t fit.
3- am Netwon’s ability to average over 40 points and 500 yards a game.

Georgia will lose, by a large margin, perhaps 35 points. Auburn could very well break 60 points against Georgia’s young defense, and Murray will likely have another meltdown, especially in the first quarter.

Urban Meyer’s wins this year have come against powerhouses like:

Miami of Ohio
South Florida
tenn
Kent
Vandy

Combined record is worse than the teams Richt’s have come against
*****************************************************************
South Florida 5-3
Miami (OH) 5-4

LaLaff 2-7
Idaho State 1-8

Richt’s record against Auburn is 4-0, don’t see how Jeff could have missed pointing that out.

After all, Jeff did point out in a previous article, Georgia’s record against Florida, yet did not point out Georgia’s record, 4-0, against Auburn.

One has to wonder why a person would flip flop?

AU is riding high and undefeated, Cam maybe a sure bet on the Heisman. UGAs season is a failure and for all intnt and purposes is over except, for a shot at beating a probable NC team. Very easy to overlook if you are AU. Bama looms much larger and while you are in the NC hunt a Georgia team can be looked past. (unless)

Just throwing it out there dude. You slurp up that kool-aid if you want but, Auburn would be the first team to get beaten and fall in such a manner

There are 2 kinds of teams, ranked, and unranked. Both Georgia & Florida have not had a win against a ranked team. So, to buy into Jeff’s article, one has to assume Georgia & Florida’s teams and coaches are not good this year, yet since Florida’s team was ranked in the top 10 earlier this season, Jeff is erroneous.

sounds to me that the one who “doesn’t know Jack about football” is college fan in general. First of all, Tech is such a great school academic wise that they don’t offer Journalism degrees, nor degrees in “Housing”, which nearly a third of all UGA football players are majoring in. Do you know what that degree in “Housing” is? It’s a major that was drafted at UGA so their athletes can have a major. It allows them to be able to go into “public housing management”. Wow – what a hard major – I bet you don’t find THAT major at GT.
But my main point about you not knowing “Jack” is when you look at the recruiting classes that CMR has had every year since he has been there (usually in the Top 10, some years have been in the Top 5), then CMR doesn’t look that great. CMR should get PAID for beating the Florida’s, Auburns, Alabama’s etc; NOT Louisiana-Lafayette, Idaho St, Central Michigan, Georgia Southern, Tenn. Tech, Troy, Western Carolina, Western Kentucky, and Troy – who UGA has played over the last 5 years; Plus the annual Vandy and KY games.

Rex Robinson, one of the many former Dawgs, said on 680 today that he believes that Mark Richt is the man for the job and that he would be back next year. It is hard to imagine UGA firing, arguably, the most successful coach in their history. Lots of former UGA players are singing the same song–both those that played for Richt and those who preceded him–the song is “Richt is a great coach.” Almost to a man–they are singing that song. CMR has the resume to back it up. He was considered an offensive genius at FS. His record at UGA against top ranked and unranked teams alike is among the very best in the nation. Do you guys realize how far the program would be set back if Richt were to be fired? Come on guys…

There is a lot of similarity between this year’s Georgia team and the 2007 Alabama team. Both were in the first year putting in that new 3 down lineman type of defense, both beat a bunch of unranked non-impressive teams, both had a lot of off-the-field arrests/incidents, both lost to a team they shouldn’t have (Bama to Louisiana Monoroe, Georgia to Colorado), both played Auburn late (and lost likely), both finish the season with no more than 7 wins, and no lss than 6 losses. Both defenses were pretty good and held opponents to less than 23 points a game on the average, Georgia’s a little better so faf on defense, but after Auburn, might be equal there too. Of ourse, Alabama went on to go 13-1 in 2008, and 14-0 in 2009, so we can only hope 2011 & 2012 works out the same for Georgia. Overall, it seems to me, Georgia’s surprisingly ahead of where Alabama was in 2007.

Great win by the Dogs. 55-7 domination. Defense looked great, offense was humming, special teams was cooking. Good to see Georgia didn’t have a let down like teams led by Saban usually do, remember when Saban lost to La Monoroe in 07′? None of that fr Richt against Idaho, just won going away, completely dominatd the game. The 3 interceptions were nice, also thought Murray finally got on track in the second quarter and had anice game, and Justin Houston continues to be the defensive player of the year, best in SEC, best in country. gletree looked superb. Tavarres, AJ, Brown, Durham, receivers looked smooth.

Murray is going to light up Tech’s secondary and our immense offensive line will crush GT’s fragile D-Line. The line on this game should be at least 14 points. UGA is a big underdog to Auburn, but I think you have to throw out the records with these two teams. Georgia has won four-in-a-row against the War Eagles (is that their name this week?) and Auburn’s defense has been poreous (putting it mildly). Nobody has been able to stop Newton and there’s no reason to think Georgia can either, however that should be the goal. Containing him is a better objective. Limit his ability to make the big play. For me the key to a Georgia victory resides on the shoulders of our linebackers and safeties. If Rambo takes of his diapers and puts on a real football uniform, he could be the difference maker. He needs to get a hard lick on Newton early to set the tone.

I’m very confident Georgia’s offense will put a lot of points on the board, as long as Murray is accurate.
