Chris Rainey (with football, not cellphone).
Urban Meyer is still on a losing streak — on and off the field.
Any hopes the Florida coach had that the backlash over his decision to reinstate wide receiver Chris Rainey would fade pretty much imploded again.
The latest slam comes from Carol Wick, who runs a domestic violence shelter in Orlando. Wick told Mike Bianchi of the Orlando Sentinel: “I think somebody in sports has got to take a stand. Given Urban Meyer’s well-known moral values, I think it would do a lot of good if he were the first coach to step up and say, ‘No, this is unacceptable behavior. I wouldn’t tolerate it in my home. I wouldn’t want it to happen to my daughter and I’m not going to tolerate it on my team. Violence and threats against women are not acceptable.’ ”
Urban Meyer: Not making friends.
The background: Rainey, the Gators’ wide receiver, sent a text message to his estranged girlfriend: “Time to die, [bleep].”
When Wick was informed that Rainey has been painted as a good guy by Meyer, she responded, “Good guys don’t send threatening text messages telling their girlfriends that it’s time to die.”
Rainey was suspended indefinitely but partially reinstated last week. The expectation is that he will play in Saturday’s game against Georgia in Jacksonville. Meyer said he’ll make that call on Thursday.
The Florida coach, whose team has lost three straight, tried to sound like the tough guy again today. He didn’t pull it off. Speaking on the weekly SEC coaches conference call with media members, he said: “As of now he has done everything he’s supposed to do. … We’re going to keep a tight rein on Chris Rainey. He’s never been an issue before and he certainly better never be again.”
Meyer also echoed some the remarks he had said on Tuesday, saying that the bye week will “result in some changes” to the offense.
Also this: Rainey would play both wide receiver and running back.

I’m sure your post will be gone by the time this clears, but I’ll go anyway. Climb back into your sexist hole. There is a big difference between a DUI (a mistake) and threatening to kill a woman (you are a scumbag). People make mistakes, and can be given second chances. Scumbags have no place in college athletics…maybe in the NFL.

SouthGaDawg: Was Chris Rainey convicted of a felony? Hell there are TONS of folks who initially get charged with felony’s only to have them dropped to misdemeanors once the Prosecution realizes it doesn’t have any evidence

UGA fans are delusional. UGA would sit out the kid for the Idaho State game and skip the FL game. UGA fans complaining about FL’s player punishment is the pot calling the kettle black.

You guys are MORONS!
This is all about winning and I do not want to hear freaking excuses about Newton. Bottom line: he was a thief, and he got caught! Believe what you want to believe but that is the reason he left as he got more playing time when Tebow was there than Brantley, so explain that!
Gators will win big with or without Rainey as the lack luster done nothing program that has not done jack in 30 years will lose again!
Enough Said!

Marietta_Gator – Your football program looks as mediocre as our program right about now. You are not exactly Bama, LSU, or even Miss. State this year. I wouldn’t be too high and mighty until you see how Urban Phase 2(minus assistants and Tebow) turns out.

Our ol’ Buddy Bianchi of the Orlando Sentinel
says it is ironic that Urban is letting Rainey back
on the team Saturday, which by the way is the
last day of Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
Bianchi says Urban should have sent a message
to all women by not reinstating Rainey.

If you win, you can get away with most anything. If you don’t win, you can’t get away with much. That’s life in professional sports, which college football is. Maybe not the way it should be but that’s the way it is.

Rainey should be kicked off the team. Period. So should other guys who make similar mistakes. UGA has kicked off several players this year and the trend will continue for similar infractions.
Anyone other than a football or basketball player making a threat like Rainey’s would be in the criminal justice system. No one, and I mean no one, should be allowed to get away a terroristic threat to a women, or anyone else, for that matter.
Time for the UF president to step in and take control. Meyer and Foley are jokes!

Even if I didn’t bleed red & black, and desperately wanted a win this weekend, I think Meyer should have booted him off the team. This is really a symptom of today’s society where many have no respect for themselves or others, and don’t give me any “mamby-pamby” sob stories about being raised poor. Respecting others transends wealth or poverty and never goes out of style. BTW, the Dawgs will win 28-17.

Marietta – If you think Rainey’s act was a misdemeanor,
go online to the Orlando Sentinel Sports Page and listen
to the 911 call to the Alachua County Sheriff’s Dept., when
he was over at this girl’s house threatening her.
Urban is a scum bag for letting Rainey back on.

Innocent until proven guilty. The charges will be dropped to Harassing phone calls. Stalking? he was not following her. Threats? He didn’t say he was going to KILL her. He just said it was time for her to die. The Felony charges will be dropped and it will be misdomeneor Harassing Calls. It is no different than UGA fans getting drunk and saying ” I am going to kick you A..” at a football game.

Gator fans would sell their soul for a win…..any win…..Winning is more important than this girl…….or really the University of Florida itself….Their success has clouded judgement down there….. Meyer is desperate for a win……He’s being bad mouthed….Beating Georgia is more important than the school, recruiting, the team or that girl…..Rainey is a pawn, who will treat life as getting away with something…….but sadly, when the cheers go away, ole Urban won’t be there to get him out of jail one day……..

Regardless of school: any arrest/violation other than speeding ticket and maybe underage alcohol consumption should be kicked off teams and scholarship revoked…..DUI – gone, death threat – gone, assualt – gone etc….No 2nd chances for those offenses….For the habitual speeder (that somehow gets arrested rather than jsut ticketed) or underage drinker, or license revoked – I’d give them 2 strikes….Someone needs to take a stand – perhaps it should be the universities themselves if the coaches are unwilling or unable

Urban says one thing and does another. He speaks of morals but play someone who gave death threats. He talks about Thursdays being Family Day at Florida in one sentence and in the next says that he never takes a day off. He sees nothing wrong with trying to poke eyes out during a game.
His words say one thing, his actions says another. There is a word for that.

Marietta_Gator – each school has had their fair share of issues but I honestly don’t see how you can defend this…Certainly you don’t think a suspended license for a speedinf ticket is not the same as a death threat – that was confirmed by the way…I hope you got a better education than that with your 2 degrees at Florida…

Well it is not like I didn’t know that Urban Meyer wasn’t a man of class or integrity. He will do anything to win no matter the cost. UGA might not have the wins FLA has over the past couple of years but I would rather have the integrity. Urban runs a dirty program and no one can deny that. Hope that he changes and doesn’t play Rainey but we are talking about Urban Meyer so I doubt it.
