Website claims honeymoon’s over for Urban Meyer (honest)

Wait until Urban Meyer gets a look at this website.

Wait until Urban Meyer gets a look at this website.

Fire coach (Fill In The Blank) websites used to be somewhat of a novelty and a source of amusement. Now most of them are just cliche and stupid. But occasionally one pops up worth mentioning, only because of the absurdity of it.

I just found one: FireCoachMeyer.com.

Laugh it up, Bulldog Nation.

I’m just glad George S. Patton didn’t lose to Mississippi State the week after beating the Nazis. He’d be toast.

OK. It’s a down year for the Florida Gators. I get that. But fire Urban Meyer? And replace him with who — Nick Saban? Oh no wait, Alabama lost to South Carolina. He’s old news, too.

It’s possible this website was started by a fan from a rival school (or a recruiting coordinator from a rival school). But given the lunatic fringe among most SEC fan bases, I  lean toward somebody in Gainesville.

(UPDATE: The website appears to be a carryover from a Fire Ron Zook website in 2005.)

The site looks like it was slapped together in about five minutes (and possible following five beers). It carries the heading: “FireCoachMeyer.com. The dawning of a new era . . .”

Below that: “BREAKING NEWS: Gators UNRANKED! 3 LOSSES IN A ROW.” And then this: “What is it going to take for the University, Almuni, and Fans to realize that the leadership of Urban is now bringing down the program. 2010 is just as we worried…and it all started with the Flip Flop from our coach.” (The reference: to Meyer’s abbreviated retirement.)

The bottom of the page reads: “The honeymoon is over. And prepare for the new term, ’sub-Urban.’”

There’s also an “apparel” link. But T-shirts must not be printed yet because the link doesn’t work.

For what it’s worth, I’ve sent an email to the site’s administrator. No response so far.

In Meyer’s first five seasons, the Gators finished 9-3, 13-1, 9-4, 13-1, 13-1. Included in there: two BCS championships, two SEC titles, three SEC East Division titles and AP rankings finishes of 12, 1, 13, 1 and 3 (the only loss last year coming to national champion Alabama).

This season, Florida is a mediocre 4-3 (2-3 in the SEC) and has dropped three straight regular season games for the first time since 1988. So for at least one pea-brain, the honeymoon is over. Son, push away from the keyboard.

Is the BCS championship party finally over for SEC?

The problem for Florida is that now that Tebow is gone, other teams get the calls they should get. If a Gator makes a catch while standing two feet out of bounds, it is ruled incomplete. If a linbacker for another school gets within 6 feet of the Florida QB, the refs aren’t under orders to throw a roughing the passer flag. If UF misses a field goal, it isn’t an automatic offsides penalty on the other team’s defense.

Now that Sister Christian has gone on to keep the bench warm in Denver, the NCAA has no investment in making sure the Gators get to the SECCG. Chin up, Urban, and welcome to the reality all other schools face where they have to earn the wins.

My bet is he plays in Jax on 10/30.

The domain name was registered on November 20th, 2004, so this is clearly not a spur-of-the-moment thing. The message boards have been active since 2005. Apparently it’s the same guy who ran “fireronzook.com”.

I especially like this comment from 2005:

“The hype everyone was giving Meyer’s gimmicky, Spread-Option offense appears to be nothing more than an “Urban Myth”. Gimmicks will not work in the SEC. If may be a good thing for UF that Urban’s offense was exposed early in the season. Perhaps now they can make some changes and get back to playing Florida football. That performance vs. Alabama on saturday was the worst I’ve seen in a big game since the FSU game back in 2000. The only impressive playcall I saw by Urban the entire afternoon was the fake punt. Sorry, just plain sorry.”

Absurd… I think both Urban Meyer and Nick Saban have done a disservice to themselves and other coaches in the profession. It is highly unusual in college football to win 2 championships so soon (Meyer) and it is highly unusual for a coach to turn a program around so quickly (Saban). No team or coach stays dominate forever. I suspected this last year… that if either one of them were to stay at their respective programs as long as Mark Richt has at Georgia they are going to deal with turmoil and dissapointing seasons. Meyer is tasting his already… it will happen to Saban as well.

This is just an odd down year for the East. Honestly, I know UGA sucks this year, but we could be a legit 4-2 right now (not that even that record is anything to brag about). Both UGA and FL recruit well. The big downer is the Vols who show no signs of turning things around, but UK and SC seem to be rising. Meyer is solid (as is Richt) for at least two years.

This story edges of complete stupidiy….no one associated with the Gator programs….fans of the Gators specifically….is concerned with the coaching skills of one, Urban Meyer. The man has nothing to prove concerning his coaching skills. Now….choosing his OC might be an issue….and I do think the Gators will have a new OC next year…and possibly a new OL coach….with Steve Addazio just being kicked up to the assistant HC position only just to keep his recruiting ablilities around the program. But…Urban Meyer will be the head coach as long as he wants to be the head coach at Florida…period…and 99% of true Gators fans want that….not some idiot that puts together a moronic website.

Plus…..if a FG kicker makes two kicks…the Gators are 6-1…not 4-3. Florida just needs to fix the offense and they will be on a roll again. Meyer and company have recruited the talent….but it needs to be coached up on the offensive side of the ball….and Steve Addazio is the problem….not Urban Meyer.

The joy of living in the Jacksonville suburbs was that a week ago I got to hear the local sports radio station interview Gainesville Sun sports reporter Tom Dooley and the hosts of the show and Mr. Dooley, all die hard Gator fans, hung ole Urban out to dry. That was before the loss to Mississippi State. Didn’t listen to today’s show. I’m sure it would have been entertaining for Dawg fans to listen to. They cannot believe that Urban has failed to adopt the offense to Brantley’s style and they are running the offense like Tebow is still back there taking snap. My brother and sister and their families live in Gainesville, FL (they are Dawg fans) and they have heard plenty of the fire Urban Meyer crap. Good news is I should be able to get cheap tickets to this years game! Yeah!!!

…and the FG kicer…is injured…and the best punter in the country is perhaps the worst FG kicker. Chas Henry will be punting the ball in the NFL next year and a mid round pick….and should not have to be kicking FGs with the game on the line this year…..and now the backup kickoff kicker is hurt. The Gators have had tons of injuries this year…and the Rainey issue…and Brantley is playing with injured ribs and a badly hurt thumb…..but those are not excuses that a couple of successful FG attempts would not have us all ignoring. The walking wounded at Florida have been out of wack this year…and those injuries have impacted Florida’s success….particularly on the OL with Matt Patchan and James Wilson not being available as backups this year…except for Wilson in the first two games. But both will be back for Georgia….and Brantley will be healthier….and Demps will be healthier….and Rainey will probably be back….and Debose should be over his severe ankle sprain…and Urban Meyer will have two weeks to prepare for Georgia and hopefully create a new and improved offense that Brantley can run out of the I formation….and hopefully tell Addazio to pass the ball down the field.

I think Florida will come out much improved and certainly healthier against Georgia…and it should be a nail bitter and down to the wire. Don’t count Florida out yet….like Georgia…they could end up in Atlanta still….and watch out for a hungry Gator….it can cause some damage.

Concerning Rainey…..

He has a well laid out program he has to complete in order to play again at Florida….and if he completes that program, he will play against Georgia (with the sign off of the university president and the univeristy AD…Foley)….and not before. He will not play just to beat Georgia….he will play against Georgia if he completes the program rules as described to him……and from what I have heard….he is working hard to accomplish that goal. According to the timetable, he may play against Georgia….but it might not be until the Gators play South Carolina….and again…his playing has nothing to do with who Florida will be playing…..

…..and, Rainey, wasn’t having much of an impact when he was playing. He has been a major disappointment during his playing time with the Gators. So…him coming or not coming back against Georgia is no big deal. Debose is better anyway….and I would rather have Debose playing than Rainey.

Don’t worry about the fireurbanmeyer.com crazies, Florida will be back to normal next year, just like Georgia, I hope.

It is pretty realistic that UF could lose three out of their next five games – Georgia, South Carolina, and FSU and winning against Vandy and Appalachian State. That would be a 6-6 record and right now both UGA and South Carolina look much better and FSU about even. They have no QB or offensive punch but Meyer should get a lot of leeway and time to straighten things out even if he finishes 6-6. Two national titles should buy a lot of time but the Florida fan base is totally spoiled right now. Deal with no more Tebow and Percy Harvins for now guys!!

well said. But some of us Gator fans are starting to question Meyer’s judgement in selecting him as the OC when he is obviously not even a good OL coach…..but is a great recruiter….

Maybe he got the OC job to keep him from taking the Syracuse job….a big mistake we see now.

But….the Gators are not out of it yet….but they should be….and it has been a strange and difficult season for both Florida and Georgia fans……but there is always next week….or should I say….there is always the bye week and another week before the Georgia game….and I am glad of that this year.

Gator fans have been overly arrogant for some time – I do not pity them right now one bit. But in fairness, they are like many fans who think that once they get to the top they have a divine right to stay there forever – EHHHH. Not happening. The wheel goes round and round, my friends. Herschels, and Tebows come around now and again but once they’re gone things tend to drop off a bit. It’s already been a crazy year in college football – the bottom line is: All the Dawgs need to focus on right now is a very tough Kentucky team – after that, if we win, we can get a little excited.

If Phil Fulmer and Tommy Tuberville were back, it would seem like the good old days — Georgia’s third-place finishes in the East notwithstanding. Furthermore, when’s the last time Georgia and Florida both lost to Mississippi State in the same year? Jeff, if you try to distance yourself from the Mark Richt bashing, you’re a bigger clod than I previously thought. You’re a good writer and a poor correspondent. The way I figured Steele’s computer’s scenario is this:

The first tiebreaker doesn’t settle it head to head.

The 2nd tiebreaker kicks out SC, due to 2 losses in the East division

In the 3rd tiebreaker Georgia then wins head to head against Florida

Ed

October 18th, 2010
9:42 pm

My point is, when you at how the SEC East plays out objectively, like Phil Steele’s computer does, SC, Fla & Ga all end up with 4 losses, but Georgia will only have 1 SEC East loss, where SC & Fla will both have 2 SEC East losses.

http://www.philsteele.com/miscpages/projectedstandings/2010/10ConfProj.html

I got Florida losing to Georgia and beating SC.

I got SC losing to Ark & Florida.

I got Georgia winning out, and beating Auburn in an upset, although Georgia can lose to SEC West Auburn, and still win the SEC East.

So UGA can be 4-4 headed to JAX to play a 4-3 Gator team. That could really be interesting. Will King being out for the Kentucky game matter much? The Gators coming off the Bye Week and UGA should be at full strength. It could be a good game. If the dawgs win, then Sunday school could be unbearable. I’m amazed at how awful a column can be and still make it online with the AJC. This isn’t “news” until you know it’s not a gimmick, and all you’ve done is establish uncertainty about the threshold question that should be answered before you respond in such an over-the-top, theatrical fashion. Is it column-worthy to note that there are crazy people out there? Well, crazy plus a few bucks gets you a website. Why do we care unless that website has a substantial following? We don’t. This Florida fan thinks that the Dawgs will beat us on 10/30. I can’t see us improving that much before the game. Murray is head and shoulders above Brantley at this point in the season and their defense is starting to click. Could be a long day in Jax for us Gator fans.

Ways to lose a Head Coaching job : 1) Lose early and often in your job…2) Win a NC then start losing…In this game, it’s all about the W’s especially when you’ve been successful. The fickle fanbase won’t stand for it. Nor will they have the patience for the rebuilding process. They expect diamonds from coal lickety split…It’s always best for a HC to leave on their own terms (unless a buyout looks good).

What gator fans don’t realize is that there is a reason for playing each game. There are no guarantees each year. Gator fans are living in the past. Get over it. Tebow is gone. He was your player of the eons and also your inspirational leader. You are now lacking at QB and leadership. In other words, the gators are average and will muddle along for a few years. Rememer the dynasty of the Hurricanes and the Seminoles? Your time is past. The upside is you’ll spend more time with your family instead of wasting hours on AJC blogs arguing every minutiae.

Phil Steele’s computer is picking UGA to win the SEC East?

He must have bought a new computer, because the one he used preseason had FLA at #7, Southern Cal at #8, Miami at #9, ND at #16 (???? – must have been programmed by Lou Holtz), UGA at #19 and LSU unranked.

I might be your biggest fan, but this column is absolute garbage. That “Fire Meyer” site is clearly the work of a rival fan, because it parrots all the stupid talking points like “he doesn’t even care about his family!” that were so common after he decided to return to UF. Either you’re easily fooled by amateur hoax sites, or you saw an opportunity to throw the UGA fans some red meat and get yourself a big headline on ajc.com.

The UF fans were booing their team against LSU!

October 19th, 2010
8:36 am

Why do so many people think that this website was not starting by a real UF fan? Were you guys not watching the UF/LSU game? While UF was driving in the 4th Quarter to take the lead, the fans were booing their own team after every no gain and cheering every time they gained a yard. You can say that was aimed at the OC, but really? You are booing on your home field in a game that is still within reach of winning!!! Boo after the game if you must, but rather spoiled-rotten Gator fans were booing during the game. UF fans don’t deserve a winner if they can’t endure 1 FREAKING down season while they are reloading and playing freshman (ranked the best recruiting class last year). Also, the punter was having to kick field goals which certainly effected the outcome Saturday.

Tampa,

Take the good with the bad. And there is both. Only an idiot would want Meyer fired. Only an idiot would say that UGA is going to win the national title in 2010.

Now, that being said, you can bring back whoever you want to in Jacksonville and the fact remains that your offense is going to struggle. You need to take off your blue and orange homer glasses and realize I was right when I said Brantley was a square peg in a round hole as far as the gators offense is concerned. He is better suited for UGA’s pro style.

The reality is, no one in their right mind would trade Murray for Brantley. Meyer would give anything to have him.

Tampa Gator: Well done in defending our coach. I have not heard anyone say a word about getting rid of Coach Meyer. Yes, the talk has been negative about the play callling and the questionable ability of our offensive coordinator. I have complete confidence that Coach Meyer is vigilantly attacking the problems, and we will see a fully prepared team in JAX on 30 October. Our fan base needs to forget about Tebow and Harvin and move forward. Additionally, true Gator Fans need to be concerned with our team rather than belittling our opponents. The fan base at each SEC School is passionate which makes our league strong. At the end of the day, we are all Americans and we have each others back if someone attacks the SEC or our great country.
I recommend the Gator Fans just be concerned with our team and the DAWG Fans expend their energy on supporting their team. The FL-GA Game this year should be a good one.

Watching Tim Tebow Cry.

Percey Harvey’s score on the Wonderlic.

Urban’s face when Tebow took that lick against Kentucky.

Watching other fans or opposing players do the “Gator Chomp.”

Their OOC schedule.

Greg McGarity (though he was ours first)

Watching Urban get angry.

90’s era Steve Spurrier in-game and post-game interviews.

Orson Charles Breaking your NC trophy. I love that kid for this fact alone.

They’re offense is more than just mediocre, its bad!!! The line is having problems, they have no inside running game. Throughout the offseason, Meyer and Addazio said they would tailor this offense to meet Brantley’s strength’s as a passer. And that it hasn’t happened at all! Uuugh, I understand and respect your opinion because we Gators also have some obnoxious idiots in our fan base, and we are spoiled. It pi##es me off when so many Gator Fans act like fools when we are winning because the vast majority of them do not remember the lean years or understand that success in all sports runs in cycles. You have good reason to feel the way you do about the matter. I will not belittle another school regardless of what I hear. In fact, I have a number of good friends who are DAWGs, VOLs, Cocks and LSU Tigers. We have our annual bets and give each other a hard time for no more than 2 weeks per year. I do understand that when any team has success that there is jeolousy and hated by one’s opponents. Furthermore, I bet the DAWG Nation would love to have had the success the Gators have had over the past few years even if it meant a lot of undue hate mongering.
As for Pouncey, he belongs at Guard where he is awesome because he is not a good center. The guy beind him, Sam Robey, will be next years center, and he should be given the job and Pouncey should go back to Guard. Of course that is simply my opinion.

However, it’s worth noting that his record without Tebow (2005 and parts of 2010) is 13-6, or .684, and that includes the yearly cupcake games. Since Tebow was to UF what Herschel was to UGA – simply one of the most dominating players in college football history – it will be interesting to see how effective Meyer is in the long run without Tebow. If Florida continues to struggle into 2012, he’s toast regardless of past success. Just ask Galen Hall how it works in Gainesville.

Gator fans, if they haven’t noticed already, will soon take note that Meyer’s record without Tebow is only 13-6, including the cupcake games. Tebow was their Herschel, a once in a lifetime talent that could, and usually did, dominate games. Tebow in the spread would make just about any coach look like a genius (I know, Meyer went 12-0 at Utah. But Tommy Bowden once went 12-0 at Tulane).

Meyer’s 9-3 record his first year and his 4-3 record this year isn’t enough information to base a judgment at this point, but if it becomes obvious that Florida is a second-rate program under Meyer without Tebow’s services, you can bet that the folks in Gainesville won’t waste too much time figuring that out.

If Meyer could have hung on to Cameron Newton, we wouldn’t be having this conversation.

GatorBob

October 19th, 2010

@neckerbreak,

The UF/UGA series is very close in the all-time record (46-39-2 to UGA’s favor).

Last two years (most meaningful regarding who will actually be playing this year’s game): UF is 2-0 with a total score of UF: 100 points to UGA: 27 (two blow out wins).

Want to go back to the past 5 games? UF is 4-1 against the Dawgs.
How about the last 10 games? UF is 8-2
Last 15 games? UF is 12-3
Previous 20 games: 17-3

See any trends here neckerbreak? Or is the truth just too painful? Yes, we might lose this year because we are godawful, but if we win we will be howling with laughter and you Dawg fans will start talking about “next year” like you do every year. If the Dawgs win we know that it is only a temporary thing and the world will right itself.

Gang,

This is more than just losing Tebow. This Gator team is struggling in a LOT of areas. They have some talent and play makers, especially on defense. But its raw and undeveloped. I mean when was the last time Florida has lost 3 in a row? The 80’s maybe? I’m think its a bit silly for Gator fans to want to fire Meyer, but I think Addazio definitely needs to go. He’s no Dan Mullen for sure.

Now with that being said, will the Gators still beat UGA? I mean its possible since they have a bye week. But I think it all kind of depends on how the Dawgs play vs. Kentucky. If they blow Kentucky out this weekend and make it 3 consecutive weeks of scoring 40 points or more, I think they’ll beat Florida but 3 TD’s. And even if they barely beat Kentucky, I still think they beat Florida. Florida’s defense is not bad, so I think that will be interesting to see how Murray and Co. do vs. the Gators. But the real match up is going to be how our defense does vs. their offense. Our defense is not very talented just like they’re offense isn’t very good. So something is going to give there. But even if the Gators do beat us, I still don’t see them beating South Carolina and I think FSU could beat them as well. The Gators are seriously a 7-5 team.

P.S. If the Gators do hang 40+ points on the Dawgs in a blowout, then Mark Richt should fired on the shot!!! That is just unacceptable!

Tebowless Meyer

October 19th, 2010
12:35 pm

It is not fair to judge Urban Meyer until 3-4 years after Tim Tebow is gone. What coach would not have been great with Tim Tebow leading on and off the field? He was a once-in-a-generation player.

It would be like judging Vince Dooley only during the time Hershel Walker was playing. If you judged those 3 years you would say 2 undefeated regular seasons, 3 undefeated years in SEC play, 3 straight SEC Championships, 2 wins in 3 majow bowl, a national championship, etc. Some of us UGA fans wonder why we lost any games while Hershel played. It took 3 coaches and 20 years to win another SEC title.

Tim Tebow is gone. The greatest player Urban will ever coach is gone. Don’t judge Urban Meyer the year after he lost Tim Tebow. Let’s judge Urban Meyer in 2013 or 2014 to be fair.

RTR…Tide fans are similar to Florida fans. Success makes them difficult to be around. I have met many Tide fans however that are very reasonable. So that makes them better than Florida fans in my book. Florida fans are just generally awful.

And what is the *&%$ing problem with wanting your team to do well!? There is no problem with this. You want or expect greatness from your team and fans of other teams are delusional. Here is the news. Every fan wants there team to win the NC…only one team does though; so that makes fans of 120 some-odd teams delusional every single year. And only one group of fans stands atop the mountain and declares the rest of college football fan-dom delusional. Its your turn I guess.

I don’t know…Maybe if our coach signed twice as many recruits as we have scholarships…or if he were better at exploiting medical redshirt loopholes…or if our school paid off the local police to keep our kids out of the headlines; we would have a cahnce to declare all other fans delusional too.

Stupid coach Richt and his respectable values.

Jeff,

Your post brought to light a fact about Georgia if they fire Mark Richt. My question to all the Georgia fans who have called for Richt to be fired is:

So if Georgia fires Mark Richt, who do they get that’s better than him?

Urban Meyer? (not available)
Nick Saban (not available)
Chris Peterson (not available)
Bob Stoops (not available)
Jim Tressell (not available)

Those are the only coaches out there who currently have a comparable record to Richt.

And please, don’t tell me that UGA should hire Kirby Smart or Will Muschamp. Neither one of those guys have a record as a head-coach. Therefore we have no idea if they are even comparable to Richt. The fact of the matter is that Georgia could not even theoretically hire someone with as proven of a track-record as Richt.

Therefore the talk of firing Richt (and Meyer) is sheer lunacy.

Show me someone who’s a better coach, and is available, and then we’ll talk.

If Penn has a mouthful of Urban’s Meyer before the game as he often does before he refs a WLOCP, Florida will win running away. There is no bigger friend to the Florida Football team than Penn Wagers.

Jeff – My brother is a Die hard Gator fan and he works with AD Foley’s golf buddy. my brother told me over the weekend some inside information on the Urban Meyer 1 day retirement that I suppose ties in to your question today ” replace him with who ” My brother was told that Urban wanted to take 2 years off and Adazio be interm HC and Urban would come back after the 2 years for another run. From what my brother was told was Foley informed Urban the following morning that if he continues his step down that He ( as in Foley ) had already been called by a coach that wanted the job, and Foley said if Urban didnt come back immediately, Foley would announced the hire of ( you guessed it ) – Bob Stoops. Which occured right before his brother took the job at FSU, but considering there was a DC opening at UF as well he would have brought his brother with him.
the more and more I think about it, it makes perfect sense.

Can you dig in and ask the difficult questions to get this confirmed?

a lil success by the Dawgs makes them difficult too. The difference is the level of success the Dawgs get ain’t much to BRAG about, but the Dawgs still try. Yes, Richt is so respectful that he only recruits a few Jailhouse Dawgs and leaves the rest for other SEC teams to recruit a few too. The problem is when the same jailhouse recruits go to Bama they don’t seem to get in trouble. Why is that?

Dont tell me you actually believe the (I’m coming back for a spirited practice garbage) if there is a coach you could feed Urban that might scare him for his job not being left on a silver plater for him to return when his recruits were juniors it would have to be Stoops. Plus it sounds like Urbans EGO not to have to accumilate the losses to his career record but just get the bright light shinning on him when he would return them back up in 2 years. He must really think he is at a Joe Pa status or something .
I for one can totally see it!

Let me understand this, someone (with unknown allegiances and motives) anonymously creates a website, and there are people dumb enough to attribute this sentiment to Gator fans generally? Wow. Of course, losing Tebow hurts. But look beyond him. Hernandez, Spikes, Pouncey and Cunningham are now starting for the Patriots and Steelers. Think about that – 4 rookies from last year’s UF team are starters on NFL teams that are a combined 8-2 this year. Add in Joe Haden, who is making a push to become a starter at corner in Cleveland, and you could soon have 5 rookie starters. Second year guys like Percy Harvin and Louis Murphy are doing pretty well in the NFL, too. You simply don’t replace that much talent without a drop off, and it’s a testament to what Urban has accomplished at Florida for people to have believed that he could.

Interesting stuff. I have a friend who went to FSU and he told me something similar regarding Bowden. He says if Bobby had retired years ago when he first talked about stepping down, the FSU coach today would be Mack Brown.

Funny how this stuff works out. Just like if Erk had been hired at UGA, Goff would still love his alma mater and Paul Johnson would have called plays in Athens and might be our coach today.

258 – let me get this straight, these rookies are starters on good NFL teams (yeah, that happens all the time), but they have nothing to do with these teams being successful?

Tom Brady called Aaron Hernandez “a great addition to the offense” – but what would he know, right?

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette said of Pouncey: “Rookie Maurkice Pouncey is the best thing to come along since Dermontti Dawson, and he plays with the same Dawson-like qualities — strength, quickness and athleticism. Just three games into his first NFL season and very few people need convinced of his awesome ability.”

Jeff Driskel, the incoming 2011 recruit, is NOT drop back passer. He’s a dual threat guy (through 5 games, 760 yards / 9 TD’s passing and 621 yards / 7 TD’s rushing).

Agree about our WR’s this year. There is no one in that group to keep a def coordinator up at night.

The problem with Florida is that their starting QB is playing for Auburn. They were counting on Cam Newton to be Tebow’s replacement but as I understand it he stole a laptop got caught and then had to leave the team.

I know the TV boys are trying to paint a picture that Newton left Florida on his own because he did not want to play behind Tebow but who does that and then goes out and plays for a junior college instead. I gues it is true that if you tell a lie enough times some people will start believing it.

But Florida would be undefeated (just like Auburn) if Cam Newton had not snatched that laptop.

Hmm….now I see why you UF fans are never accused of being intelligent folk. Did you not even bother to read my comments? I conceded everything you stated before you even went to the effort of wasting your time to just repeat. One could argue this season is a push between the two programs. Both teams are breaking in significant new pieces. However, I think UGA was dealt the stepper hand with a freshman QB and new defensive scheme. The anger and bitterness of your posts tells me I struck a chord with you and you clearly realize your program is slowly sliding back into obscurity where it belongs. Enjoy your recent national titles and remain proud of them, because it appears you will never see one again.

I think Urban Meyer is a good coach and should be fine for at least a couple more seasons, but I seriously doubt that UF would ever get a chance to fire him because he would probably resign first. Check out his news conference after the Miss. St. game; the sound of Miss. St. fans cheering somewhere outside seriously rattled him for a few moments. His face looked pained. A couple of Zook-like seasons would be more than someone wound as tightly as he is could take. Also, he doesn’t strike me as someone who could hold up well to media and booster criticism.

It’s interesting how even one elite player can make a coach look real good. Richt’s defenses have never been the same since David Pollack left after the ‘04 season. When one defensive player has the ability to disrupt or negate whatever the other team is trying to do on every play, it makes a huge difference. On offense, when one player – especially a QB who handles the ball on every play – has the ability to create something positive on every down no matter what the defense does scheme-wise, it makes a huge difference. Tebow was that guy for UF. Throw an elite talent like Percy Harvin into the mix, it’s a wonder Florida ever had to punt.

Heath you must be a Kentucky fan. 26 straight wins will cause that to happen to a guy. This year Florida is playing a ton a freshmen etc. and it has been a tough year. However, with the exception of the Alabama game they still could of and should of won both other games. I would have liked to see someone other than a punter trying to make field goals that’s for sure. Anybody who has a clue about Florida football “Heath excluded” knows that we are just a hint away from where we normally are. Better than your team.

I don’t think Urban Meyer deserves half the heat he’s getting. This is going to be an off year because Florida is still in the stages of rebuilding. Heck, look at the Longhorns. They were at the BCS championship last year and they just recently broke into the top 25 after their win last week. Shat happens. Sometimes you just gotta roll with it. Give the man a break.

2010 is the truest test for Urban Meyer’s coaching skills.

1- No Tebow
2- No Harvin
3- No Charlie Strong
4- No Dan Mullen
5- #1 rated (of all-time) recruiting class
6- FINALLY Tough schedule that included Bama, LSU, Georgia in same year.

So, can the guy coach or not? Pre-Harvin in his career? No top 10 finishes. Post Harvin? No National Championships.

I found it interesting to study the contrast in styles of Meyer against SPurrier in how they approached Alabama.

Meyer brought in his ‘big package’ to try and slow down the Bama offense and got blown out.

Wrong strategy, bad coaching.

Spurrier got a big lead, and forced Bama to pass against 7 and 8 deep pass defenses, Playing from behind took Alabama oput of their running game.

Great strategy, better coaching.
