Website claims honeymoon’s over for Urban Meyer (honest)

Wait until Urban Meyer gets a look at this website.

Wait until Urban Meyer gets a look at this website.

Fire coach (Fill In The Blank) websites used to be somewhat of a novelty and a source of amusement. Now most of them are just cliche and stupid. But occasionally one pops up worth mentioning, only because of the absurdity of it.

I just found one: FireCoachMeyer.com.

Laugh it up, Bulldog Nation.

I’m just glad George S. Patton didn’t lose to Mississippi State the week after beating the Nazis. He’d be toast.

OK. It’s a down year for the Florida Gators. I get that. But fire Urban Meyer? And replace him with who — Nick Saban? Oh no wait, Alabama lost to South Carolina. He’s old news, too.

It’s possible this website was started by a fan from a rival school (or a recruiting coordinator from a rival school). But given the lunatic fringe among most SEC fan bases, I  lean toward somebody in Gainesville.

(UPDATE: The website appears to be a carryover from a Fire Ron Zook website in 2005.)

The site looks like it was slapped together in about five minutes (and possible following five beers). It carries the heading: “FireCoachMeyer.com. The dawning of a new era . . .”

Below that: “BREAKING NEWS: Gators UNRANKED! 3 LOSSES IN A ROW.” And then this: “What is it going to take for the University, Almuni, and Fans to realize that the leadership of Urban is now bringing down the program. 2010 is just as we worried…and it all started with the Flip Flop from our coach.” (The reference: to Meyer’s abbreviated retirement.)

The bottom of the page reads: “The honeymoon is over. And prepare for the new term, ’sub-Urban.’”

There’s also an “apparel” link. But T-shirts must not be printed yet because the link doesn’t work.

For what it’s worth, I’ve sent an email to the site’s administrator. No response so far.

In Meyer’s first five seasons, the Gators finished 9-3, 13-1, 9-4, 13-1, 13-1. Included in there: two BCS championships, two SEC titles, three SEC East Division titles and AP rankings finishes of 12, 1, 13, 1 and 3 (the only loss last year coming to national champion Alabama).

This season, Florida is a mediocre 4-3 (2-3 in the SEC) and has dropped three straight regular season games for the first time since 1988. So for at least one pea-brain, the honeymoon is over. Son, push away from the keyboard.

I attempted to submit something similar to this earlier, but it disappeared so here is attempt no. 2:

Gator fans, if they haven’t noticed already, will soon take note that Meyer’s record without Tebow is only 13-6, including the cupcake games. Tebow was their Herschel, a once in a lifetime talent that could, and usually did, dominate games. Tebow in the spread would make just about any coach look like a genius (I know, Meyer went 12-0 at Utah. But Tommy Bowden once went 12-0 at Tulane).

Meyer’s 9-3 record his first year and his 4-3 record this year isn’t enough information to base a judgment at this point, but if it becomes obvious that Florida is a second-rate program under Meyer without Tebow’s services, you can bet that the folks in Gainesville won’t waste too much time figuring that out.

If Meyer could have hung on to Cameron Newton, we wouldn’t be having this conversation.

@neckerbreak,

The UF/UGA series is very close in the all-time record (46-39-2 to UGA’s favor).

Last two years (most meaningful regarding who will actually be playing this year’s game): UF is 2-0 with a total score of UF: 100 points to UGA: 27 (two blow out wins).

Want to go back to the past 5 games? UF is 4-1 against the Dawgs.
How about the last 10 games? UF is 8-2
Last 15 games? UF is 12-3
Previous 20 games: 17-3

See any trends here neckerbreak? Or is the truth just too painful? Yes, we might lose this year because we are godawful, but if we win we will be howling with laughter and you Dawg fans will start talking about “next year” like you do every year. If the Dawgs win we know that it is only a temporary thing and the world will right itself.

Tebow might have been a “plant”. He went to Fla and stayed only four years. HE KNEW he would have to leave after his senior season. He set Fla up! I bet he is not even a “christian”. He should be ashamed.

Gang,

This is more than just losing Tebow. This Gator team is struggling in a LOT of areas. They have some talent and play makers, especially on defense. But its raw and undeveloped. I mean when was the last time Florida has lost 3 in a row? The 80’s maybe? I’m think its a bit silly for Gator fans to want to fire Meyer, but I think Addazio definitely needs to go. He’s no Dan Mullen for sure.

Now with that being said, will the Gators still beat UGA? I mean its possible since they have a bye week. But I think it all kind of depends on how the Dawgs play vs. Kentucky. If they blow Kentucky out this weekend and make it 3 consecutive weeks of scoring 40 points or more, I think they’ll beat Florida but 3 TD’s. And even if they barely beat Kentucky, I still think they beat Florida. Florida’s defense is not bad, so I think that will be interesting to see how Murray and Co. do vs. the Gators. But the real match up is going to be how our defense does vs. their offense. Our defense is not very talented just like they’re offense isn’t very good. So something is going to give there. But even if the Gators do beat us, I still don’t see them beating South Carolina and I think FSU could beat them as well. The Gators are seriously a 7-5 team.

P.S. If the Gators do hang 40+ points on the Dawgs in a blowout, then Mark Richt should fired on the shot!!! That is just unacceptable!

Gator bob,

You are off the charts delusional if you think the last 2 years have anything to do with the 2010 UGA/Fla game.

Tebow is gone
spikes is gone
Hernandez is gone
Strong is gone

joe cox is gone

The game is going to be close and i expect UGA to win. The harsh reality for you and the other Gators is that you wish you had our QB in the worst way.

Murray fits your system better than Brantley ever will.

It is not fair to judge Urban Meyer until 3-4 years after Tim Tebow is gone. What coach would not have been great with Tim Tebow leading on and off the field? He was a once-in-a-generation player.

It would be like judging Vince Dooley only during the time Hershel Walker was playing. If you judged those 3 years you would say 2 undefeated regular seasons, 3 undefeated years in SEC play, 3 straight SEC Championships, 2 wins in 3 majow bowl, a national championship, etc. Some of us UGA fans wonder why we lost any games while Hershel played. It took 3 coaches and 20 years to win another SEC title.

Tim Tebow is gone. The greatest player Urban will ever coach is gone. Don’t judge Urban Meyer the year after he lost Tim Tebow. Let’s judge Urban Meyer in 2013 or 2014 to be fair.

RTR…Tide fans are similar to Florida fans. Success makes them difficult to be around. I have met many Tide fans however that are very reasonable. So that makes them better than Florida fans in my book. Florida fans are just generally awful.

And what is the *&%$ing problem with wanting your team to do well!? There is no problem with this. You want or expect greatness from your team and fans of other teams are delusional. Here is the news. Every fan wants there team to win the NC…only one team does though; so that makes fans of 120 some-odd teams delusional every single year. And only one group of fans stands atop the mountain and declares the rest of college football fan-dom delusional. Its your turn I guess.

I don’t know…Maybe if our coach signed twice as many recruits as we have scholarships…or if he were better at exploiting medical redshirt loopholes…or if our school paid off the local police to keep our kids out of the headlines; we would have a cahnce to declare all other fans delusional too.

Stupid coach Richt and his respectable values.

Jeff,

Your post brought to light a fact about Georgia if they fire Mark Richt. My question to all the Georgia fans who have called for Richt to be fired is:

So if Georgia fires Mark Richt, who do they get that’s better than him?

Urban Meyer? (not available)
Nick Saban (not available)
Chris Peterson (not available)
Bob Stoops (not available)
Jim Tressell (not available)

Those are the only coaches out there who currently have a comparable record to Richt.

And please, don’t tell me that UGA should hire Kirby Smart or Will Muschamp. Neither one of those guys have a record as a head-coach. Therefore we have no idea if they are even comparable to Richt. The fact of the matter is that Georgia could not even theoretically hire someone with as proven of a track-record as Richt.

Therefore the talk of firing Richt (and Meyer) is sheer lunacy.

Show me someone who’s a better coach, and is available, and then we’ll talk.

If Penn has a mouthful of Urban’s Meyer before the game as he often does before he refs a WLOCP, Florida will win running away. There is no bigger friend to the Florida Football team than Penn Wagers.

Jeff – My brother is a Die hard Gator fan and he works with AD Foley’s golf buddy. my brother told me over the weekend some inside information on the Urban Meyer 1 day retirement that I suppose ties in to your question today ” replace him with who ” My brother was told that Urban wanted to take 2 years off and Adazio be interm HC and Urban would come back after the 2 years for another run. From what my brother was told was Foley informed Urban the following morning that if he continues his step down that He ( as in Foley ) had already been called by a coach that wanted the job, and Foley said if Urban didnt come back immediately, Foley would announced the hire of ( you guessed it ) – Bob Stoops. Which occured right before his brother took the job at FSU, but considering there was a DC opening at UF as well he would have brought his brother with him.
the more and more I think about it, it makes perfect sense.

Can you dig in and ask the difficult questions to get this confirmed?

Ugggggh.
a lil success by the Dawgs makes them difficult too. The difference is the level of success the Dawgs get ain’t much to BRAG about, but the Dawgs still try. Yes, Richt is so respectful that he only recruits a few Jailhouse Dawgs and leaves the rest for other SEC teams to recruit a few too. The problem is when the same jailhouse recruits go to Bama they don’t seem to get in trouble. Why is that?

I understand you get rumors all the time but I’m telling you this is coming straight from Foley’s golf buddy.
Dont tell me you actually believe the (I’m coming back for a spirited practice garbage) if there is a coach you could feed Urban that might scare him for his job not being left on a silver plater for him to return when his recruits were juniors it would have to be Stoops. Plus it sounds like Urbans EGO not to have to accumilate the losses to his career record but just get the bright light shinning on him when he would return them back up in 2 years. He must really think he is at a Joe Pa status or something .
I for one can totally see it!

Let me understand this, someone (with unknown allegiances and motives) anonymously creates a website, and there are people dumb enough to attribute this sentiment to Gator fans generally? Wow. Of course, losing Tebow hurts. But look beyond him. Hernandez, Spikes, Pouncey and Cunningham are now starting for the Patriots and Steelers. Think about that – 4 rookies from last year’s UF team are starters on NFL teams that are a combined 8-2 this year. Add in Joe Haden, who is making a push to become a starter at corner in Cleveland, and you could soon have 5 rookie starters. Second year guys like Percy Harvin and Louis Murphy are doing pretty well in the NFL, too. You simply don’t replace that much talent without a drop off, and it’s a testament to what Urban has accomplished at Florida for people to have believed that he could.

258DAWG,

Interesting stuff. I have a friend who went to FSU and he told me something similar regarding Bowden. He says if Bobby had retired years ago when he first talked about stepping down, the FSU coach today would be Mack Brown.

Funny how this stuff works out. Just like if Erk had been hired at UGA, Goff would still love his alma mater and Paul Johnson would have called plays in Athens and might be our coach today.

your problem is you dont change the gameplan for the talent you have, which makes no sense that you got that QB to commit for next year when he is ALSO considered to be a pocket passer.

Surely they make you take probability at Tech. Each school should have a similar number of fires. There has to be something preventing those fires in Tuscaloosa. It isn’t the pyromaniacs–so who is it?

258 – let me get this straight, these rookies are starters on good NFL teams (yeah, that happens all the time), but they have nothing to do with these teams being successful?

Tom Brady called Aaron Hernandez “a great addition to the offense” – but what would he know, right?

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette said of Pouncey: “Rookie Maurkice Pouncey is the best thing to come along since Dermontti Dawson, and he plays with the same Dawson-like qualities — strength, quickness and athleticism. Just three games into his first NFL season and very few people need convinced of his awesome ability.”

Jeff Driskel, the incoming 2011 recruit, is NOT drop back passer. He’s a dual threat guy (through 5 games, 760 yards / 9 TD’s passing and 621 yards / 7 TD’s rushing).

Agree about our WR’s this year. There is no one in that group to keep a def coordinator up at night.

The problem with Florida is that their starting QB is playing for Auburn. They were counting on Cam Newton to be Tebow’s replacement but as I understand it he stole a laptop got caught and then had to leave the team.

I know the TV boys are trying to paint a picture that Newton left Florida on his own because he did not want to play behind Tebow but who does that and then goes out and plays for a junior college instead. I gues it is true that if you tell a lie enough times some people will start believing it.

But Florida would be undefeated (just like Auburn) if Cam Newton had not snatched that laptop.

Hmm….now I see why you UF fans are never accused of being intelligent folk. Did you not even bother to read my comments? I conceded everything you stated before you even went to the effort of wasting your time to just repeat. One could argue this season is a push between the two programs. Both teams are breaking in significant new pieces. However, I think UGA was dealt the stepper hand with a freshman QB and new defensive scheme. The anger and bitterness of your posts tells me I struck a chord with you and you clearly realize your program is slowly sliding back into obscurity where it belongs. Enjoy your recent national titles and remain proud of them, because it appears you will never see one again.

Btw, Brantley isn’t even worthy to sniff Murray’s jock, as well you know ;)

I think Urban Meyer is a good coach and should be fine for at least a couple more seasons, but I seriously doubt that UF would ever get a chance to fire him because he would probably resign first. Check out his news conference after the Miss. St. game; the sound of Miss. St. fans cheering somewhere outside seriously rattled him for a few moments. His face looked pained. A couple of Zook-like seasons would be more than someone wound as tightly as he is could take. Also, he doesn’t strike me as someone who could hold up well to media and booster criticism.

It’s interesting how even one elite player can make a coach look real good. Richt’s defenses have never been the same since David Pollack left after the ‘04 season. When one defensive player has the ability to disrupt or negate whatever the other team is trying to do on every play, it makes a huge difference. On offense, when one player – especially a QB who handles the ball on every play – has the ability to create something positive on every down no matter what the defense does scheme-wise, it makes a huge difference. Tebow was that guy for UF. Throw an elite talent like Percy Harvin into the mix, it’s a wonder Florida ever had to punt.

Heath you must be a Kentucky fan. 26 straight wins will cause that to happen to a guy. This year Florida is playing a ton a freshmen etc. and it has been a tough year. However, with the exception of the Alabama game they still could of and should of won both other games. I would have liked to see someone other than a punter trying to make field goals that’s for sure. Anybody who has a clue about Florida football “Heath excluded” knows that we are just a hint away from where we normally are. Better than your team.

I don’t think Urban Meyer deserves half the heat he’s getting. This is going to be an off year because Florida is still in the stages of rebuilding. Heck, look at the Longhorns. They were at the BCS championship last year and they just recently broke into the top 25 after their win last week. Shat happens. Sometimes you just gotta roll with it. Give the man a break.
