Website claims honeymoon’s over for Urban Meyer (honest)

Wait until Urban Meyer gets a look at this website.

Wait until Urban Meyer gets a look at this website.

Fire coach (Fill In The Blank) websites used to be somewhat of a novelty and a source of amusement. Now most of them are just cliche and stupid. But occasionally one pops up worth mentioning, only because of the absurdity of it.

I just found one: FireCoachMeyer.com.

Laugh it up, Bulldog Nation.

I’m just glad George S. Patton didn’t lose to Mississippi State the week after beating the Nazis. He’d be toast.

OK. It’s a down year for the Florida Gators. I get that. But fire Urban Meyer? And replace him with who — Nick Saban? Oh no wait, Alabama lost to South Carolina. He’s old news, too.

It’s possible this website was started by a fan from a rival school (or a recruiting coordinator from a rival school). But given the lunatic fringe among most SEC fan bases, I  lean toward somebody in Gainesville.

(UPDATE: The website appears to be a carryover from a Fire Ron Zook website in 2005.)

The site looks like it was slapped together in about five minutes (and possible following five beers). It carries the heading: “FireCoachMeyer.com. The dawning of a new era . . .”

Below that: “BREAKING NEWS: Gators UNRANKED! 3 LOSSES IN A ROW.” And then this: “What is it going to take for the University, Almuni, and Fans to realize that the leadership of Urban is now bringing down the program. 2010 is just as we worried…and it all started with the Flip Flop from our coach.” (The reference: to Meyer’s abbreviated retirement.)

The bottom of the page reads: “The honeymoon is over. And prepare for the new term, ’sub-Urban.’”

There’s also an “apparel” link. But T-shirts must not be printed yet because the link doesn’t work.

For what it’s worth, I’ve sent an email to the site’s administrator. No response so far.

In Meyer’s first five seasons, the Gators finished 9-3, 13-1, 9-4, 13-1, 13-1. Included in there: two BCS championships, two SEC titles, three SEC East Division titles and AP rankings finishes of 12, 1, 13, 1 and 3 (the only loss last year coming to national champion Alabama).

This season, Florida is a mediocre 4-3 (2-3 in the SEC) and has dropped three straight regular season games for the first time since 1988. So for at least one pea-brain, the honeymoon is over. Son, push away from the keyboard.

Computers say: Georgia No. 60; Georgia Tech No. 45

Is the BCS championship party finally over for SEC?

Georgia enjoys a laugher and tries not to wonder, ‘What if?’

Figured this would happen, Fire everyone, nope just an offensive coordinator or some more assts.
Short term memory. When the Florida team is back to 12-1 or 13-0, they will be back to the same old insufferable fans. Tough times for awhile.

fireronzook.com is a website that I accused of being run by a BullDog, or Nole, or Cane back in the day (2004). He promptly sent me a virus for my trouble. The site is run by a disturbed fan who has the attention span of a flea. This is an example of the ability for people to remain anonymous on the internet so they can spew their insanity at will. Fireurbanmyer.com needs to go away, or get a life

Schultz, what are you? The official seat-warmer for the AJC? I know you’re not actually calling for Meyer’s job, but you seem to be bringing a lot of attention to poorly performing coaches lately, perhaps because we won’t pay attention to you unless you catch on to something controversial. Can you please stick to real sports commentary? Then I won’t be tempted to actually read your column. In fact, I don’t think I’m going to read it anymore anyway. I’d rather redeem that time bringing attention to your poor performance, so I think I’ll start a website…

A good ole Dawg whuppin in Jax will make us feel a little better. Hopefully, during our week off we will either change the offense to fit our QB or change QB’s to fit our offense. Unfortunately, I think we have to find another QB, Brantley is just not the answer. Burton and Reed add a spark but they really must not be able to throw the ball or they would be in there.

If you are going to correct grammar on this site, you should know that “whomever” is not appropriate to use in the nominative case. It should be “whoever posted that..”

Fire Urban-what a joke! I do believe he has earned to go through a down time with his team. All this talk isnt good for the Dawgs. On top of having a week off and having the heat turned up on him from stuff like this,he will have his team ready to play in Jax. We wont see the team that played Miss St,I assure you of that.

Jeff,

I might be your biggest fan, but this column is absolute garbage. That “Fire Meyer” site is clearly the work of a rival fan, because it parrots all the stupid talking points like “he doesn’t even care about his family!” that were so common after he decided to return to UF. Either you’re easily fooled by amateur hoax sites, or you saw an opportunity to throw the UGA fans some red meat and get yourself a big headline on ajc.com.

The UF fans were booing their team against LSU!

October 19th, 2010
8:36 am

Why do so many people think that this website was not starting by a real UF fan? Were you guys not watching the UF/LSU game? While UF was driving in the 4th Quarter to take the lead, the fans were booing their own team after every no gain and cheering every time they gained a yard. You can say that was aimed at the OC, but really? You are booing on your home field in a game that is still within reach of winning!!! Boo after the game if you must, but rather spoiled-rotten Gator fans were booing during the game. UF fans don’t deserve a winner if they can’t endure 1 FREAKING down season while they are reloading and playing freshman (ranked the best recruiting class last year). Also, the punter was having to kick field goals which certainly effected the outcome Saturday.

Tampa,

Take the good with the bad. And there is both. Only an idiot would want Meyer fired. Only an idiot would say that UGA is going to win the national title in 2010.

Now, that being said, you can bring back whoever you want to in Jacksonville and the fact remains that your offense is going to struggle. You need to take off your blue and orange homer glasses and realize I was right when I said Brantley was a square peg in a round hole as far as the gators offense is concerned. He is better suited for UGA’s pro style.

The reality is, no one in their right mind would trade Murray for Brantley. Meyer would give anything to have him.

Tampa Gator: Well done in defending our coach. I have not heard anyone say a word about getting rid of Coach Meyer. Yes, the talk has been negative about the play callling and the questionable ability of our offensive coordinator. I have complete confidence that Coach Meyer is vigilantly attacking the problems, and we will see a fully prepared team in JAX on 30 October. Our fan base needs to forget about Tebow and Harvin and move forward. Additionally, true Gator Fans need to be concerned with our team rather than belittling our opponents. The fan base at each SEC School is passionate which makes our league strong. At the end of the day, we are all Americans and we have each others back if someone attacks the SEC or our great country.
I recommend the Gator Fans just be concerned with our team and the DAWG Fans expend their energy on supporting their team. The FL-GA Game this year should be a good one.
Go Gators!

wow, so primadonna athletes don’t just stop at the GA state lines.

Hilarious though, who is a better coach than UM right now. 2 national titles in how many years.

Coaches can’t really do a whole lot about getting young players to do the right things. They can scream about it. They can demand it…they can’t get them to do it to the best of thier ability every time. That’s on the player. Some of it is just being young.

I can see why some FL fans are a little put out. Florida went down a notch when Mullen left, then another notch when Strong left. And the offense, without a LOT of studs, isn’t winning anymore at the rate the fans expect. That together with Meyer’s personal uncertainty and discipline issues, doesn’t look good.

I have to throw in one more parting shot… Mr. Schultz, where’s your false outrage when it comes to Urban Meyer? You’re so quick to throw CMR under the bus, but let’s just look at CUM’s record when it comes to arrests: http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/story/14124413/meyer-shows-true-core-values-by-reinstating-rainey
Sure, he’s got a great record and championships, but as you would/should argue, he has no control over his players, and no morals either. Who is more deserving of a website calling for his resignation? Richt, Meyer…or Schultz? My vote is for Schultz.

GatorMike…it is my understanding that belittling Gator opponents is part and parcel with being a Gator Fan . The arrogance that follows a few good seasons is enough to make me despise any and every Gator fan. Every time I see those awful colors or those horrible crocodile car stickers and tags I shake my head and assume that that person is an a$$hole.

There are things I do like about the Gators though:

Watching Tim Tebow Cry.

The hilarious story about Tebow wanting to pray before the Wonderlic test.

Percey Harvey’s score on the Wonderlic.

Urban’s face when Tebow took that lick against Kentucky.

Watching other fans or opposing players do the “Gator Chomp.”

Their OOC schedule.

Greg McGarity (though he was ours first)

Watching Urban get angry.

90’s era Steve Spurrier in-game and post-game interviews.

Orson Charles Breaking your NC trophy. I love that kid for this fact alone.

Corrine Brown’s “gratulatory” speech in the hallowed halls of congress where she spoke 6 words of actual English and wore an orange boxer’s robe. Class. Class. Class.

Well I knew the Gators would be down this year after losing all of those players, but to only put up 6 points vs. Bama and 7 points vs. MSU is just bad! They’re offense is more than just mediocre, its bad!!! The line is having problems, they have no inside running game. Throughout the offseason, Meyer and Addazio said they would tailor this offense to meet Brantley’s strength’s as a passer. And that it hasn’t happened at all! The problems that Florida has aren’t going to be fixed in a bye week. They could very well lose to UGA, South Carolina, hell maybe even to FSU.

ugaclassof2004 , the problem is the REAL coach is now at MissSt. Meyer knows this which is why he cried last yr & tried to quit (or did quit but decided to come back for another few million reasons). Meyer knew what was coming & that he would be exposed. Actually, if you think back the FL offense suffered last yr even w/ Tebow. FL has more talent than anyone in the nation & they have lost 3-straight. Meyer, keep the tears coming..

Uuugh, I understand and respect your opinion because we Gators also have some obnoxious idiots in our fan base, and we are spoiled. It pi##es me off when so many Gator Fans act like fools when we are winning because the vast majority of them do not remember the lean years or understand that success in all sports runs in cycles. You have good reason to feel the way you do about the matter. I will not belittle another school regardless of what I hear. In fact, I have a number of good friends who are DAWGs, VOLs, Cocks and LSU Tigers. We have our annual bets and give each other a hard time for no more than 2 weeks per year. I do understand that when any team has success that there is jeolousy and hated by one’s opponents. Furthermore, I bet the DAWG Nation would love to have had the success the Gators have had over the past few years even if it meant a lot of undue hate mongering.
As for Pouncey, he belongs at Guard where he is awesome because he is not a good center. The guy beind him, Sam Robey, will be next years center, and he should be given the job and Pouncey should go back to Guard. Of course that is simply my opinion.
Go Gators!

Obviously, any talk of firing Urban Meyer is ridiculous at this point. However, it’s worth noting that his record without Tebow (2005 and parts of 2010) is 13-6, or .684, and that includes the yearly cupcake games. Since Tebow was to UF what Herschel was to UGA – simply one of the most dominating players in college football history – it will be interesting to see how effective Meyer is in the long run without Tebow. If Florida continues to struggle into 2012, he’s toast regardless of past success. Just ask Galen Hall how it works in Gainesville.

And these guys wore orange (obnoxious per se) and were arrogant long before Spurrier or Meyer arrived. They are the only fan base that would talk trash after LOSING to UGA.

But give them credit, they love their team. Wish Georgia people could generate the kind of noise they make in the Swamp (acoustics aside, they still yell louder). Not that it helped them against LSU and Miss. St.

GatorBob,

UGA actually still owns UF historically. What has occurred since 1990 is an aberration if you will. History always has a way of sorting itself out. This trend will veer back to normal and the Gay-tors will once again be looking up at UGA like they are supposed to.

Meyer will either retire, leave or have a self-inflicted heart attack from the shame of continuing to lose. Either way, doesn’t look good for your asylum.
