Is the BCS championship party finally over for SEC?

if the dawgs can take the SEC east and then win in Atlanta, any chance of us making it to BCS game? surely we’d be ranked in top 5?

Should a one loss Alabama or Auburn get in over Boise State? Hard to say…. I completely agree the schedule Boise plays isn’t fair to either team, but then again this is the way the system is set up.

I think Boise could give either Alabama, Auburn or LSU a heck of a game. I don’t think a one loss SEC team deserves to get in ahead of an undefeated Oregon or Oklahoma. Lot of football left though. I do take one exception in regards to Boise… Hawaii has shown they are a good team. They won’t beat Boise, but to call Nevada the only good team left isn’t accurate.

Agree Auburn and LSU have a shot but probably not Alabama since loss and schedule has been rather light, thus far have not beat a current ranked top 20 team. Picks up with LSU and Auburn but doubt either with be a top 10 team when they Ala. Would like to see Auburn play for national title since they were passed over in 04.

Hey, I have no problem with the Auburn football team, when did I poke fun at them? I poked fun at the fact that your institution can’t decide on 1 mascot. I am a proud UGA fan and understand that we can’t win all the time. Am I happy about this season…..no, but as a fan, I remain optimistic that the future won’t yield this year’s results on a consistent basis. You were the one who displayed sensitivity and brought the football team record into the discussion.

What the hell am I talking about?

You see, since you are from Auburn, I will spell this out for you slowly.

There are four years of eligibility in college football. Georgia has won the last four games that Georgia and Auburn have played. That means that any Auburn players who played their first game against Georgia in 2006, played their last game against Georgia in 2009 (if you are confused see my first statement in this paragraph about eligibility 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009).

The conclusion would be that since Georgia won all of the games between the two schools for the last four years, those players left Auburn having never beaten Georgia.

Please let me know if you are still confused. I tried to dumb this down as much as I could, but I do realize I was still forced to use some big words like “eligibility” and “paragraph”. If you need further help, I’ll see if I can get one of my children to write more detail on your level.

When they got to the top the UT fan said “I’ll settle this. I’ll jump off this mountain and fall to my death to show my love for the Vols. Auburn has to get their defense in order and if they do they’ll win out. Bama is tough but Bama is very very beatable. LSU and Auburn will be a great game this weekend. If Auburn can just score and score and score, there will be no way for LSU to keep up.

The biggest problem the SEC has is that they will have to have an undefeated team at the end of the season and Alabama is going to prevent that from happening. Maybe the SEC can convince Alabama to lose to both teams to keep their streak going. That doesn’t seem likely though.

I met him. He is more like 7′9 350lbs and can throw a football over them mountains over there. The reports of him throwing the laptop out the window are also inaccurate. He thumped the laptop and the police found it lodged into a cinderblock building some 800 feet away from his dorm room.

You sports writers are insane.
First you say ”Bama is far ahead of everyone.” Then you say, ”Bama is out of it.” Now you say “the SEC is out of it…maybe.”

Scenario:
1. Oklahoma (6-0): Yes, they beat Florida State and Texas but they they beat Utah State by 7, Air Force by 3 and Cincinnati by 2. I am unimpressed. I predict they lose AT LEAST one regular season game and the Big XII championship game to Nebraska.

2. Oregon (6-0): They will be in the big game unless they lose to one of the lame-wads from the Pac 2.

3. Boise State (6-0): Joke, Joke, Joke.

5. TCU (7-0): see above.

7. Michigan State (7-0): overachievers will come crashing down soon enough.

If that is all Alabama/Auburn/LSU has to worry about, I think an SEC team will be there.

Masoli was all world in the Pac 10 but can’t hack it in the SEC. Pac 10 wins the championship when they cheat. Big 10–do they ever show up when given a chance to play for all the marbles? ACC…HA HA HA HA! Big 12…2nd best conference in the country. They win BCS championship, whenever they play the Big 10. Big East…worst conference in the country. I will say this: Boise State shows up to play for big games…BOTH times it happens each season.

Basically, I believe a 2 or 3 loss SEC Champion could still be the best team in the country. The problem is the system won’t allow that kind of team to get through to the big game.

I think all the other conferences should have their own playoff. The winner of that tournament plays the SEC champion to determine the National Champion.

I expect Auburn to go undefeated, and then get jobbed again in the BCS. Look at it now – there’s NO WAY an undefeated Auburn team is going to out-poll an undefeated Boise State team, and someone else will hang on at the top.

Auburn won’t get any style points. Bama won’t be undefeated, and the experts seem to think this a down year for the SEC as a whole because the traditional powers are losing games. It doesn’t matter how many good teams there are, it’s how many eye-popping victories a top team can rack up and Auburn isn’t going to get any.

Who in their right mind thinks UGA can beat Auburn? Have they been asleep all season? UGA has three conference games left, all three on the road (Kentucky, Florida, Auburn). Good luck. The best chance for a win is the Gators!

Some years back, Auburn ran the table, but was kept out of the BCS championship because an obviously inferior team, Oklahoma, got ranked above Auburn in the beginning of the season, and then never lost a game. Their delusions of grandeur, spurred on by the clueless BCS (strength of schedule, and conference excellence, is not a concept they seem to be able to grasp, were destroyed when USC (a legit contender for the championship) beat the living snot out of Oklahoma in the championship game — one of the worse games and biggest let downs of the college football year — anti-climatic does not quite describe it. And, here we go again. The writer is correct. It will be up hill for the SEC. Auburn of LSU could run the table and be closed out of he championship this year by teams (Boise State, are you kidding me? -one Little Sisters of the Poor game in their schdedule after another) who could never compete week to week in the SEC and have such a won-lost record. The best SEC teams have one or two losses because they have to play other SEC teams. Week in and week out in the SEC, every game is a real game. My God, Kentucky just beat South Carolina, which just beat Alabama, and so on. There are no gimmes in the SEC, on any Saturday — ever. As soon as you think that, you will lose. Last year, for example, Ole Miss beat Florida. This just may be a year that nothing can be done. You can bet that the other conferences, and their supporters, and BCS politicians are really getting tired of this, and whether legit or not, they do not want to see the SEC win it all again this year, even if they produce an undefeated team, or a team beaten only by an SEC team. But, it was a good run.

Shultzie, I think it’s a bit premature to be singing a dirge for the SEC. Oklahoma has quite a gauntlet to get through – games v/s Texas, Mizzou, OkieState and Nebraska – before we can crown them a sure thing. Oregon still plays USC, OreState and Washington (yeah, the team that just knocked off an unbeaten Saturday night) and Boise’s SOS is going to probably keep them in a holding pattern at number 3. Barring an implosion by the rest of the FBS, Boise probably won’t make it to the Nat’l Championship. It’s still anyone’s game.

Jeff S. asked “Is a one-loss SEC team more deserving to get into a title game than an undefeated team from the WAC or Mountain West?” I seem to remember that a MWC blasted a SEC team in the Sugar Bowl 2 years ago. So the answer is YES! The only way to settle this is on the field. Utah, TCU or Boise St. deserve to go to a good game if they win out. If OK and OR win out, they should play for the BCS CH, but if TCU and Boise ST are the last 2 undefeated teams, why not let them play? I seem to remember everyone saying that Utah had no chance against the Tide, who won that game again? 31-17 ring a bell?

Auburn (one player) and LSU are pretenders. Auburn should’ve lost to Ky and Miss St. LSU’s offense is pathetic but has been good enough. Only Bama would be deserving with one loss. Ok will probably lose as will Oregon. Its a mess. But NO WAY Boise should ever be in the title game, as good as they play. they play two ranked teams and NONE on the road and NONE back to back. I agree Jeff, the party is finally over for the SEC, although Alabama could sneak back into the hunt for the BCS. However, one team does not make a conference. Also, when you consider that a 2-3 team is in the hunt for the SEC east, that does not bode well for respect.

The only teams making any noise in the SEC are LSU and Alabama. Auburn could be the real deal, but I am sure they will run out of gas once Cam Newton is injured. Miles will outcoach Cheese Nip who has played only 1 or 2 competitive games, otherwise, they have been walkovers just like UGA in the past 2 games.

Derek I tend to agree with you regarding the 3 losses but Ole Miss is questionable after losing the opener to Jax State. Boise moved down to strength of scheduled or lack thereof and deserve to move down. Boise is good, especially their fast and hard hitting defense, but they need to beef up that schedule.

OU deserves to be number one after they destroyed FSU, and beat Texas. OU is the real deal, but they could hiccup down the road, however, I suspect OU will mostly destroy anything in their path, including an SEC opponent.

If anyone thinks the Big 12 is weak, then line it up and let’s get it on. UGA went to Stillwater last year and got their helmets handed to them. Basically if you want to gain credibility, then schedule some Texas, OU or even Mizzou then you will get style points, but only if you win.

Alphare, you get your best team from the SEC against OU in the NC game and they will mow them down this year. OU has had problems in the past, but they are firing on all 8 cylinders this year, so just tell OU when and where and they will be there.

SEC clingons continue to argue they have the best conference, but just schedule Texas, OU, OSU, or even TT as a road opener, then come see me. Put your money where your mouth is. I grew up in the midwest and believe me, they can hit harder and they are just as fast or faster. Where do you think your college quarterbacks are coming from (i.e. Stafford)?

Florida will win the SEC East, because they will run the table on their remaining SEC schedule. They may have a few problems with USC, but they will easily handle Vandy, UGA.

Alabama will bounce back and win the SEC west, including a beatdown on Auburn. Even if they tie with Auburn, the beatdown will give them the SEC West based on head-to-head.

Alabama will win the SEC, and play OU in the NC title game, because Alabama will get huge style points for winning the SEC and will hammer anything in their path from here until the SEC game.

Uuugh…

If you are going to take a loss, take it early, but at least try and gain some style points by scheduling a tough opener on the road. UGA fell in the first 2 weeks on 2008 after being ranked #1 because they were playing weak opponents. Then they went on the road and lost to OSU in the opener, and went into a death spiral.

Basically, if we could remove the BCS and create a top 8 or top 16 playoff system, then that would kiill alot of these arguments, but until then, the debate rages on.

I agree that 8 or 16 team playoff would be the best solution…for the SEC anyway. The other conferences do not want this to happen because, if the brackets are seeded appropriately, you could end up with a 75% SEC Final 4 and an all SEC final.

I remember when everyone said that Hawaii was a powerhouse the year they went undefeated until they came to the SEC and played in a real conference and got their @$$ handed to them by Georgia. I’m an Auburn fan through and through and give credit when credit is due. If Auburn goes undefeated in what is quite aruguably the toughest conf. and gets denied the big game again, then something is quite wrong.

Yes, Auburn’s strength does rest on the shoulders of one INCREDIBLE player, but so did Florida when they had their INCREDIBLE quarterback and nobody disrepected Florida like they are doing Auburn.

Fact is, Auburn has a legitimate chance of going undefeated. I think that if they played Oklahoma, Boise State or Oregan next week, they could beat any of them. Period.

Auburn’s defense is lacking, but does it really matter when their offense scores more points than their opposing team? After all, it’s about who has the most points at the end of the game that matters right?

Cameron Newton helps his Heisman talk

The bang-bang nature of it was kind of eerie. Moments after CBS put up the graphic that Auburn’s Cameron Newton had 143 rushing yards in first half, and a whopping 57 of them after contact against Arkansas, Michigan QB Denard Robinson burst up-field for a 12-yard gain on the rugged Iowa defense. The wiry 195-pound sophomore, however, was drilled, taking a helmet in his upper right (throwing) arm. The Wolverines star had eclipsed the 100-yard rushing mark on the play, but stayed down on the field for a few minutes before being helped to the sidelines. His day was done.

Meanwhile, back down at Auburn, the 6-foot-6, 250-pound Newton kept rolling on. Newton finished the day with 188 yards on the ground and 140 more passing. You could practically see the Heisman scales tipping one dual-threat QB up while the other side of the scale sank mid-afternoon Saturday. Newton ran for three TDs of 5, 1 and 3 yards, distances that usually indicate “hard” yards as the Tigers overwhelmed the 12th-ranked Hogs, 65-43. In the past two games, Newton has carried the ball 53 times, putting the Tigers’ offense on his back, and he only seems to be getting stronger.

“Even when you have guys there, he breaks the tackles,” said Hogs coach Bobby Petrino. “He’s also fast and big and can really run the ball. He’s just a really good player.”

Stanford was ranked #16 the week before this game. The pollsters moved them up 7 places to #9 after they beat a 1-3 Notre Dame team. This was done so that ABC / ESPN could generate more hype about this game occuring during Saturday night primetime. Thus they could say “A Top 10 match up”. When was the last time the PAC10 can claim a match up, in conference, of Top 10 teams?

The winner of the AU / LSU battle this weekend will be in the top 3 or maybe even to the 2 spot.

War Damn Eagle – You have a good offensive team but defense is what wins championships; therefore Auburn will not win any type of Championship this year…SEC or NC. I plan on going into your house on November 13th and seeing UGA win for the 5th consecutive year in a row and I hope that Auburn is still undefeated when we come calling b/c you are highly OVER RATED!!

5150 P.O.A.D. It would say the exact same thing it said about the ACC last year when your championship game had teams with 5 losses (was it 6?) between them: The ACC and the SEC are just alike–except the SEC has good teams, coaches, and players.

And who is our 1 player? The guy with 100 yards rushing last weekend? The guy with 100 yards receiving? The guy that had a hand in 4 Td’s? The guy that had 60 yards receiving and 1 td?

If either Auburn or LSU runs the table, they are in. There’s no doubt about that. If neither of them wins out the SEC won’t be represented, unless a bunch of odd upsets happen.

That’s ok. A team that isn’t unbeaten really has no gripe about getting left out. Unless, of course, Boise or TCU, who play a double-A schedule get in. Ain’t fair, but that’s how it is.
