Celebration time: Carlton Thomas is mobbed after a first-quarter touchdown, igniting a 43-0 rout. (Brant Sanderlin/AJC)
ATHENS – Since Georgia is way past concerns about where it ranks in the Harris Poll, there’s little in the way of buildup for the unveiling of the first BCS standings Sunday. Certainly, there’s no reason for fans to reflect and wonder: “Will Vanderbilt’s record hurt our strength of schedule?”
But that shouldn’t matter right now. There is a pulse.
One week after thumping Tennessee 41-14, the Bulldogs boat-raced Vanderbilt 43-0 on Saturday.
That’s two wins by a combined 70 points. The only lingering depression following consecutive dismemberings stems from the fact the schedule is now exhausted of teams from the Volunteer State.
Seven weeks into the season, a 3-4 record is not what anybody in Athens had aspired to. But aesthetically, it’s far more appealing than 1-4 was — or what 1-4 seemingly projected to.
The latest win even inspired two Capital One Bowl officials to sit in on coach Mark Richt’s postgame news conference. A tad premature, perhaps.
Consecutive wins over bad teams at home don’t reveal a lot about how good a team is. But it certainly makes everybody stop guessing where the bottom is. It also says something about character.
As Richt summarized neatly: “It looks like we’re getting better. It looks like we’re playing with more passion. We’re getting some momentum.”
Next week at Kentucky will be a slightly tougher test. (The Dogs are 0-3 on the road.) The following week against Florida will be significantly tougher. (No reason to revisit inglorious history right now.)
Win those two games, and suddenly two Capital One Bowl officials won’t look so out of place. Uga VIII would be elevated to deity status.
If Georgia manages to turn this season into something special, people are going to start showing up at Uga’s doghouse, asking him to lay paws on their forehead.
The Dogs weren’t without some minor flaws Saturday. Among other things, Richt and his team burned three timeouts in the first five minutes of the game. But what followed was mostly a performance that gave them the look of a wrecking ball. Richt was even allowed to even joke about the early management issues. When asked about officials not checking replay when a seeming touchdown pass to A.J. Green was ruled incomplete, the coach cracked he couldn’t debate it because: “I didn’t have any timeouts left.”
"Big Bad Bruce" (Uga VIII) fell asleep during the game, apparently having concluded, "My work is done here." (AP photo)
But when a defense pitches a shutout and limits an opponent to 140 yards and an offense amasses 547 yards, there’s not a lot to pick on. The offensive line blocked. The running backs ran hard, broke tackles and didn’t fumble (Washaun Ealey: 123 yards, one touchdown). Aaron Murray threw for 287 yards and two touchdowns, and Green didn’t even account for most of that (he was the third-leading receiver after Kris Durham and Tavarres King).
The Dogs’ only challenge will be not looking back, not asking: What happened in Columbia? And Starkville? And Boulder?
“Obviously it hurts, especially when you look at the way we’re playing now,” tackle Clint Boling said. “Where was this two or three weeks ago? But we just have to move on from it. There’s nothing we can do about it now.”
“We just have to control what we can control,” Durham said. “Just get wins. That’s all we can do and hopefully get some help along the way.”
A two-game winning streak shouldn’t inspire parades. But it represents a breakthrough. Georgia hadn’t won consecutive games all season. They hadn’t won consecutive SEC games in 13 months — September of last season over South Carolina and Arkansas. Those were the same two opponents that started the spiral this year. Before the win over Tennessee, the Dogs were 2-7 in their previous nine SEC games. Now they will go to Kentucky with a chance to balance the season record.
Forget the BCS. Right now, it’s about cleansing, winning and landing somewhere north of Shreveport.
Durham again: “We were embarrassed the way we were playing before. We’re trying to get tougher as a football team.”
They are. We’ll soon find out where it gets them.

As mad at A.J Green as I am right now for torpedoing our season, I think his absence might have helped Murray develop in the long run. Forcing him to look hard for whoever’s open instead of locking down on Green has made him a better QB. I think we’ll get it together and be the team nobody wants to play in a bowl game. Unfortunately, it won’t be on New Year’s Day. Even more unfortunately, it won’t be a playoff game.

Any team that uses this and last week as a barometer is kind of crazy! Play the game as they come. Kentucky should be a win, although night games there are always tough. Florida, at best, is a toss up. I was shocked to learn that Idaho State even has a football team. We play Auburn at Auburn and they just hung 65 on Arkansas, a team that beat us at home. Tech sucks in oh so many ways, as always, but that’s likely to be a toss us also. In sum, UGA wins 6, maybe 7, this year. Respectfully, that ain’t no moral victory. Goodbye Capital One, hello Shreveport.

Sure UGA is down this season. But only complete idiots (usually loser Tech people) thought that somehow the Dawgs were dead. Those opening losses to Ark and SC were just what I said they were at the time…losses to respectable good football teams. The next two were just by products of losing those first two and a team down on itself.
Make no mistake, the Dawgs are definitely in a down year, but it’s not like they’re as bad as Tech or something. And I’d bet my money that had the stupdity of the AJ Green saga not happened, UGA would be sitting pretty right now as a undefeated team despite it’s many current weaknesses.

When we were at 1-4 the best we could hope for was to improve our play. We are seeing exactly that – IMPROVEMENT. Aaron Murray is playing lights out for a red shirt freshman and Grantham is doing an amazing job of taking Willie’s PUPPIES and turning them into football players.

@Duluth Dawg – I agree we need to stay grounded. But that goes both ways. This is the SEC and you’re just not going to dominate and win 10 ball games a year every year. You’re going to have down years and this is one of them for certain. My comments are more directed at the stupid Techies infesting these blogs and the overzealous Dawg fans out there who thought the sky was falling.
It was cleary not. Ealey keeps his hands on the ball a couple times and we beat SC and Ark. That’s without even factoring in Green. Add AJ to that and I feel they win all 4 games. Not that I’d label them the best team in the country because of it. But they were NEVER as bad as some were making them out to be. I feel that will be proven over the course of the rest of the season.

I agree poopdawg on the preparedness of the team. And that’s all been Richt’s fault. But, to his credit he’s not resting on his laurels. Last week he abandoned the NFL type limited contact practice and went to full pads/contact. Which I think will be seen as the turning point for this season and for the overall shape of the program. You can’t go out and practice all soft and layed back and expect hard play and intensity in the game. Just doesn’t work.

On defense, I think that the tackling has improved, the containment is better, evidenced by today’s performance and the linebackers are settling down. The secondary is still clueless when guys spread the field and run and that might be a problem next week and definately against AU.

Ryan…you’re right Au looks tough to stop on offense, defense will still be their achillies, but they are good on offense…as far as Cam Newton. he does look like a legit heisman contender…I’m hoping a certain person who usually gets on here doesn’t start up with how the dawgs let him get away…just for the record, they even mentioned on TV that he had wanted to attend Au from the beginning but with them having Kodi Burns, he went to the gators instead…its my understanding that he was never a serious threat to come to the dawgs…anyway, great win for the dawgs, i know its Vandy, but we looked good in all phases…the RB’s looked much better, but again Vandy didn’t really challenge us..Kentucky will no doubt..the dawgs have to bring their A game…althought i find no consolation in the losses, losing to SC, Miss State and Ark doesn’t look terrible now based on what these teams have done…Colorado…well no excuse…still a tough road ahead, but i feel better about the team than i did thats for sure..go dawgs…

@Jeff Schultz, your tweet is still incorrect about Florida’s last 3 loss regular season. In 2007, Tebow’s first year as starter, Florida lost to Auburn, LSU, and UGA. 3 losses in 4 weeks actually. I always remember this because they also lost their bowl game to Michigan to cap a 4 loss season in Tebow’s first year as a starter. I always keep this stat handy in my “why Herschel Walker is greater than Tim Tebow argument”. Herschel never lost an SEC game and only lost 3 games in 3 years.

flagboy? – The thing about nobody signaled the TD was a real screwup. If they had called it a fumble, there was no way that a replay could have overruled that, either. It looked to me that when his knee went down, the defender’s hand was between it and the ground. But I couldn’t tell if it was all of his knee, or part of his knee. There are going to be plays where you just can tell from TV camera shots.

Just for fun:
Georgia beats Kentucky and Florida, but losses to Auburn.
Kentucky losses to GA, then beats Miss. State, Vandy, and Tenn.
Florida losses to GA, then beats Vandy and SC.
SC beats Vandy and Tenn, then losses to FL and Ark.
The East ends with four teams tied at 4-4.
I’m mostly joking (although none of these outcomes are unreasonable), but the East really is completely up for grabs.

The SEC has been pretty lucky with its conference championship game – but this season does show the downside to this format. Conference title games work best when the two divisions are relatively balanced. This year a, 11-1 or 12-0 team from the West could very possibly play an 8-4 team from the East. If the team from the West wins, it gets very little bump in either the polls or the computers to help in the BCS standings. If the 8-4 team wins, then the conference losses a chance at another title.

Cousin Vicker, you are absolutely wrong. If UT, UGA, and UF all finish with 3 losses, there will be a 3-way (of course) and a tie-breaker established by the SEC several years back, would be the determining factor in who plays in the SEC title game. Just ask Schultz, I’m sure he can clear up the misunderstanding you have about the matter.
aintconVinceD – like I said before, UF is on the losing streak and UGA is on the winning streak (no matter what the level of competition). UF needs to “man-up” and get back in the winning column. If they lose to the DAWGS after having a bye, they’ll definitely need to “man-up” to salvage their season. UGA needed to man up after losing to Arkansas, and they didn’t, they needed to man up after losing to Mississippi St and they actually did even though they lost because of the fumble. However, they definitely “manned-up” against Tenn after UT gave LSU all they wanted (yep the same LSU that just beat your Gators last week). I emphasize this to beat a dead horse, there are not any easy wins in the SEC, you have to be prepared, so don’t diminish UGA’s wins by saying they played inferior competition. At this point, UF may be inferior competition……see ya in Jax!

Honestly, instead of playing what if and worrying/dreaming of a mircale scenario to win the East, why don’t we be proud of the win today and worry about playing a pretty good Kentucky team on the road? That is part of the problem some of the UGA faithful have (that the nerds and others like to point out) one or two wins and the comments get delusional…Could it happen? Sure. But only thing that matters at this point is winning some games – the last 2 weeks were a start, lets get a road win next week. And before all the talk of bring on the Gators – remember we play on road while they have 2 weeks to hear “how bad they are” before they play us…

That was the last course I took for my much-interrupted quest for my Bachelor’s degree from Thomas Edison College ( four colleges attended, plus credits in nuclear physics from my Navy service.) Looks to me like these teams we LOST to, all were against teams who LOST yesterday :
Missy State already had lost 2 when they KILLED US
Colorado LOST at home again to Baylor Bears, Arkansas LOST again but our offense could not do that, South Carolina LOST again to Kentucky no less
A well-coached UGA team this season easily could have the SEC East wrapped up long ago.
We are not that team obviously. Everyone else is; but, we are not.

We beat Louisiana Lafayette, vols and Vandie – clearly the 3 worst teams on our schedule.
In the meantime, The SEC West is a LOT better than The SEC East, again.
And, The SEC East was there for the taking this season without all these damn ARRESTS / SUSPENSIONS and their resultant LOSSES to 4 teams, none of which have ANY defense as proved again again all season but our offense could do nothing in any of the 4 losses.
T. Kyle King thinks the win watch is important.
Uh, excuse me, we are 41-18 after the 2005 season through this morning, the # 22 team in Won / Loss these 5 years AND # 2 Fulmer Cup Most Arrests / Suspensions after the 2005 season.

I think UGA Fans are o.k. for the most part. Some do get out of sorts very quickly if the team does not play up to their high expectations. This year
the dawgs will finish well with only one more loss at worst. The UGA fans
should be feeling thankful that their team is turning it around and playing much better regardless of the opposition.

looks like a corner MAY have been turned, people dont realize that we lost to a very good gamecock team (that beat alabama), a good arkansas team(took ALA to the wire, shot it out with auburn with a hurt mallet) and a good miss st team (5-2 record, beat UF by holding to 7 pts, only lost to undefeated auburn and LSU). and all at the beginning of the season while trying to break in a new defense and QB (no A.J. didnt help) by the time they lost to colarado their confidence was shot, but i think now we are seeing the real potential of this team

Crazy season.
To add my observations to the bonfire:
1. Say what you will about the fact that this was a mere win over Vandy, the team is better. Much better. Murray looks more comfortable running the offense, the line is blocking more effectively, and the defense seems to finally be figuring out what they are supposed to be doing out there. The last two weeks have been wins. That’s the key. The team that lost to Colorado could have easily lost either of these past two games–but that team is gone.
2. AJ Green’s presence changes other teams’ offensive gameplans even if he does not catch a pass. We are a different team with him on the field. If he had played against South Carolina, Mississippi State or Arkansas, I think we would have won at least two of those games. 5-2 would not have looked nearly as bad as 3-4–and if AJ had been in gameday shape against Colorado and had not been MIA in the locker room during the third quarter, we would have won that one, too. That $1000 jersey has cost Georgia a lot this season.
3. Georgia is a better team right now that Georgia Tech, so if I were a Tech fan, I’d keep my mouth shut. But that’s never been a virtue of their fan base.
4. The Kentucky game is going to be a shootout. But I think the Dawgs will pull out a win.
5. The Gators are very beatable.
6. The Dawgs will end up somewhere in the vicinity of 7-5, which I’ll take after the 1-4 start. Hopefully, the end of this season will set up the beginning of 2011.
7. Cam Newton is the best player in the country. He means more to Auburn than any other player does for their respective team. If he doesn’t win the Heisman, something is wrong.

The last two Blowout Games against a couple of teams that are amongst the worst in The SEC are a mixed bag of blessings.
Certainly we enjoy the victories after the previous miserable losses.
But one must ask why The Dawgs could not have played better against Ark, SC, Miss & Colorado – all of which have lost games.
Having watched all of The SEC Teams this season I see none that The Dawgs of Old could not have beaten.

Don’t worry about “what if” but worry about Kentucky. Remember the first 5 minutes of the first quarter and aour coaches have a problem on weather to kick a field goal of try for a first down. They have to use their last time out of the half to decide. Maybe late in the game but not in the first quarter against Vandy.

Pitiful that Dawg Fans would come in here and represent that Florida is doing WORSE than UGA when we are # 77 in the BCS with 8 teams ranked ahead of us in the BCS Rankings in our own conference.
And, don’t forget we lost to hapless Colorado, who got beat at Boulder by the Baylor bears for God’s sake.
Florida is 50 places higher in the rankings than we are because of that loss, alone by us to Colorado. And, every other team who beat us this year already ALL LOST LAST NIGHT.
Dawg Fans have NO BUSINESS saying anything to Florida and we appear to be headed to our 2nd player taking extra benefits THIS YEAR, and this 1 we played vs Louisiana Lafayette and the vols, so those 2 “wins” are LOSSES too. I think with all honesty that we are 1-6 having beat ONLY Vandie and we have the National Championship for MOST ARRESTED / SUSPENDED sewn up. Yet, you come running in here putting hell on Florida for losing in a close game to a team who blew us out.

For Murray this has been a blessing in disguise. Play What If…
- what if the line performed like it should have
- what if Murray was forced to stay in the pocket
- what if Met would have still have been on the team
That’s enough to get the point across…
- if the line performed like planned, CMB would be running the ball way more
- if the line performs, Murray is forced to stay in the pocket and never shows his wheels, and a big part of his game would have been left on the cutting room floor
- if Met was still on the team, regardless if Murray’s fault, or not, he would have been pulled to provide a spark to the team and Met would
Credit to CMR & CMB to adjust their mind set to adapt to Murray’s game, and not vise-versa. UGA has a much more exciting offense with Murray’s dual threat/abilities.
If you think it doesn’t matter, then take a look at Florida where they are still built for a Tim Tebow type of QB. I suspect Brantley will be given “a rest to heal up”", in will come Burton, and Brantley will never be the starter again. The same will happen at USF, BJ Daniels is a very good mobile QB, but Holtz is forcing him into a being pocket passer and Daniels will not be behind center by the end of the year either.
Murray and UGA got lucky in a way. CMB & CMR took their lumps at the being of the year by not turning the keys over to Murray’s style of play, but they felt the heat, and pulled the trigger. Baring injuries, the Bull Dawgs should be good for years to come. This splurge of offense should also help with recruiting for those on the fence and bring in some big time receiving talent and players wanting to play in a top tier program and a BCS bowl game.
Good for CMR & CMB to make the adjustments and good to the fans who applied the pressure and not setting back and accepting the “wait until next year” mantra.

Hey, um, I love the “we can beat Auburn” crowd considering you’ve lost to 3 teams they beat when those teams were healthy and running at full power. Heck, how many did UGA score on ARK? 65?
The truth is, UGA is a under coached and under developed team of over hyped players championed by fans who are a laughing stock of the nation… in a division that is an absolute embarrassment.
Just say, ONE MORE GAME AND WE HIT 500!! And stop worrying about the teams that are undefeated.

BTW, if Auburn is so beatable by UGA, why you talking about them? Should just be an automatic, like Idaho St or whoever you’re going to play. I don’t hear anyone talking about them.
As to “we can stop the [AU] run”, really? You realize Auburn is passing? You realize you didn’t really stop Colorado, what’s their record again?
I’ll be straight and honest with you folks since I have an alumnus living under my roof, since Am 680 did the “when did things go wrong at UGA” the other day, as in how many years ago did the wheels really come off? The fact that discussion exists says something. Listen to what your rivals are saying, “keep Richt.” That means you’re coach my be one of the best men in CFB, but he’s not a winning coach. You are not developing players, Matt Stafford didn’t get 1 ounce better in the years he was at UGA, just fatter. That can be said for a lot of players. There is no development. You’re bumping along and if demanding to be respected but at the same time if you get the spotlight you freeze. That’s a head game and that’s coaching. But keep Richt, man I hope you win enough to keep him so that i can come back and tease those who are absolutely irrational. The ones who say: “we’re going to run the table” after losing 3 straight or “I really thought we’d be 10-2 or better this year with a freshman and a horrible track record.”
What I cannot believe is that the SEC East is so bad you’re still in contention?!? But I think KY and UF will ruin it for you before you get beat by Auburn. But here’s to irrational hope!

The truth is that UGA is simply irrelevant on the national football scene… again. Each year the reputation and significance of the UGA football program diminishes under CMR. It started with the Black Out game embarrassment and has declined since then. The program is now under .500 in mid-season and still Dawg fans proclaim the most ridiculous and delusional statements. That’s ok, remain delusional and keep your coach. It’s just (another) rebuilding year. You’ll be contending for the BCS next year (again). if Georgia doesn’t beat the Gators this year, they will never beat the Gators because the Gators have one of the worse offensive teams in the country….and no doubt the worst offensive coordinator in the country. That was one of the worse college football games I have ever witnessed in THE SWAMP last night. And why doesn’t Florida have a backup placekicker? The Gators don’t lose to LSU or Miss. State….as bad as their offense is….with a decent backup placekicker.

UGA’s win over Vandy was nothing to write home about, because the wins came over 2 of the worst teamsin the SEC and D-1 football. This home win for UGA also proved how weak the SEC is this year, because when you have 2-3 team in the hunt for the east, then that side of the conference is weak.
UGA is not getting better, their opponents are just weaker than normal. UGA will only make .500, because Auburn will throttle them terribly. Keep in mind Auburn just disassembled Arkanasa yesterday and Arkansas took it to Georgia.
In terms of Florida, the Gators will continue to dominate over the Dogs, because Meyer just finds a way to win and they own them.
Basically, everyone just needs to calm down and face the facts that UGA has one of the weakest schedules in the SEC, if not the weakest and everyone is getting excited about nothing. This is the main reason that UGA football has tanked and lost any hope if playing for a national title, because they cannot run with the big boys when it counts (i.e. Alabama, Florida, OSU, etc.)

Typical UGA fans looking backwards to teams they lost to and attempting to justify the season. MSU looks strong, so now UGA is looking better. You are in soft stretch in a weak conference this year, give me a break.
The only teams that count in the SEC this year are Florida and Alabama, and the jury is still out on these teams.

You Dawg fans who keep repeating “30-24″ like a mantra enjoy yourselves all you want. The thing is… Tech alumni and fans have lives that don’t depend entirely on what a bunch of kids does on Saturday afternoons. College sports are fun to follow, but the biggest reason for going to college is to get an education.
UGA fans don’t seem to care about anything but football, and they don’t care if their players are enrolled in silly majors that no parents who are paying the bills would send their kids to UGA for. The very few football and basketball players who graduate have no job opportunities and end up unemployed or working in menial jobs that hardly require a college degree.
Georgia Tech is a real school with serious academic standards, and that includes scholarshipped athletes. UGA has a long history of being a party school, where parents send their kids for an easy degree, even if the degree itself is practically worthless.
Jan Kemp exposed the crap going on at UGA with athletes being enrolled in courses a ten-year-old kid could pass. That was almost three decades ago, and nothing has changed. If anything, the abuses are more blatant today. Way too many illiterate morons are being recruited, and the very high arrest rate shows clearly that Richt does not care if his players have any morals or self-discipline.
The bottom line is that most Tech fans have very good jobs and productive lives that don’t depend on Tech’s football record for their happiness in life. It would be great to beat UGA more often, but when you put scholar-athletes up against dummy-athletes, it’s usually no contest.
It’s pretty pathetic to see UGA fans who typically have never been within miles of a college classroom and who live or die with UGA’s weekly results on the football field.
So keep on posting your “30-24″ all you want, especially since you’re home with plenty of time on your hands. I wish you well, maybe you’ll get lucky and get your old job back at the Waffle House before your unemployment checks stop coming.

Resaca – you obviously don’t have a clue about how bad Tech is both academically (when about 12 players were ruled academically ineligible at once) and thug wise (drug dealing and cartels operating out of the locker room and bombs in the student quadrangle) – you have no business talking about UGA’s blips or Jan Kemp. You’d better worry about walking down North Avenue and not being raped, killed or shot. Athens is a GREAT town and anybody who went to school there loves it – and we don’t need police escorts to get to class safely.

DAWG NATION: Lets all be happy for the last two weeks, however we need to be realistic and realize that we are not that good this year.
On one hand the effort and enthusiasm on the field seems to be trending in the right place. The coaching has been better, although Bobo to me is still out of his league. The players and coaches need to be appluaded and lets hope it continues.
On the other hand; we beat TN and Vandy. TN had a game at LSU where they played over their head and almost won, but they are not the TN of old. Vandy, well they are just Vandy.
We must be realistic but hopeful for the remaining games on the schedule.
6 and 6 after our start would be a moral victory. Anything more would be great end to a dreaded start.
Go DAWGS. Keep your heads up. Criticize when it is warranted, but NEVER waiver on your overall support and applaud when it is deserved.

Resaca,
Funny that you trash UGA fans and Alumni, but you are sitting on a UGA blog, really?
You forgot a few things, UGA alumni are very successful. The state of GA is run by….you got it UGA alumni. Tech is nothing more than 1 major school, people go to Tech to be engineers. Those who attend UGA, which has a highly ranked Vet, Law, Business (Terry College), and Journalism (Grady College) schools, make a difference in a variety of fields. Last time I checked, UGA is a top 50 school. I am very proud of my UGA degree, the experiences and friendships I built can’t be replaced. Oh yeah, and I get payed rather well.
Is envy a sin in the Quran? (Only a Techie would know that)
The reason the state of GA roots for UGA is because it’s the states University.
Enjoy your Tech degree and everything that comes with it……..lonely nights and a lack of a social life

Mr. Schultz. Even if it was vandy it was a confidence builder not only for this team but for us fans. It was the way they won and played w/o those drive killing penalties, dropped passes or fumbles. THE DEFENSE, a weak and sore spot during the 4 game losing skid looked good from the 2d qtr on not giving up those huge chunks of yardage and tackling a heck of a lot better. Granted, the win was over vandy, but this was a convincing win, one that left fans clapping and not shaking the heads in disbelief like they did so many times during week 2-5.
If they can duplicate their play against a good KY team and win in convincing fashion then we can say the wins over TN and Vandy were not over lesser teams but rather a good team finally playing up to their potential. Win out this season and CMR ought to be SEC coach of the year.

I just heard Kevin Butler & his sidekick ” Homer Hondo the Scalawag Yankee Fan ” trash Boise State for trying to claim a right to the National Championship game because of their poor schedule and lack of tough opponents. This is like calling the kettle black. Did they not get word that UGA just dropped a home and away series with a top notch Oregon program so they could pick up a couple of homecoming opponents lower then Vandy in the future.( sounds like they are trying to avoid potential defeat ) Did Butler already forget that he has a National Championship ring by not defeating the best opponent in the 1980 Sugar Bowl but by beating a average Notre Dame team. Give Boise credit for being smarter then the rest and figuring out a way to give themselves the best chance for success in our current college football system just like teams have been doing for years. Until we have a college playoff system in place I appalled Boise for giving themselves a chance to be National Champions. I don’t know many DAWG fans who wouldn’t want to be where the Broncos are right now. LOL

Posted on page 4. Also we do not come on here and want to fire our head coach during one down season like Dawg fans do (and not all is lost yet in the SEC East for the Gators with a two weeks to get healthy and hopefully find someone else to call offensive plays…I have had it with the inept calls of one Steve Addazio…he was horrible last year with one of the best QB in college football history….and he is even worse this year calling plays for a QB who can’t run the spread…and pulling the one who can and calling his typical swing pass that cost the Gators the game. Losing Andre Debose (the Gators only big play player on offense right now with Demps hurt and very limited) on offense and Jaye Howard (one of the best DL in the country) on defense in the first quarter did not help the Gators much last night. But…you can’t win close games when your FG kicker can make FGs of 40 yards or less. With Celab Stugis not hurt….the Gators are 6-1 right now. But they are 4-3 and still have a shot at the East….and how pathetic is that for the SEC East this year. Not one great team in the division….not one. How did SC lose to KY after beating Bama? Georgia better be ready to play KY next week or your big comeback will turn into sour grape fans once again.

UGA has for several years lacked SEC caliber physicality. This is why UGA is no longer an upper tier SEC school with the LSUs, the Bamas or the Floridas of the world. UT used to be in that group and over the long haul, so was Auburn.
This year, SC with a SMALLER O and D line shoved and slammed and pushed UGA all over the field. So did MSU and so did a weak D Arkansas team. Colorado did too. We are too small and our D backs are slow intelectually ………it seems. Maybe Safety # 9 Alec Ogletree will have some impact going forward.
Now, UT and Vandy are the weakest SEC teams maybe beyond UGA. Watch the game with KY on Saturday ………… they really like physical play AND they will SPREAD UGA all over the Commonwealth field. It will be a shoot out and I hope that UGA can hang tough …………I really do not like our D line. They are simply too small to play big boy ball and it might take two years or more to develop some starters that have BULK and talent. This is UGA’s weak, weak link in football right now. Really bad it is too.
Florida is so down this year vs the last 20+ years of Gator teams ………….BUT I still think that they will spread UGA all over the stadium.
Auburn is KY with a better O. KY does have a top notch, high octane O, but so does Auburn.
GT?? They are horrible in big boy ball , especially on D but like Ky and likely Floirda and Auburn, they can spread UGA with their middle school offense and they will be watching how GA plays KY’s triple option. We are so weak up the middle. See the SC game. Ugh !!!
I love the Dogs …………but Richt has put UGA in this spot with his $$ induced complacency and his divided attention span between his faith based endeavors over UGA football.
We must STILL make a coaching staff change. If we run the table …………maybe he gets one more year ………otherwise this time next year will be a carbon copy of 09 and 10. One year or other, our recruiting will just have to take it on the chin.

I just hope the Plainsmen don’t fix their swiss cheese D by then and we certainly are going to have to be able to take down Cam when he’s first hit. Of course that’s easier said than done.

I think that the SEC officials have become “comfortably numb” when it come to making calls. The advent of instant replay marked the point at which all the officials should have been let go and re-hired. This would have the league train new officials HOW to make calls within the new dynamic of replay.
It can’t be that hard to find better officials.

Jeff, So have the “Trembling Chihuahuas” upgraded to the “Barking Jack Russells” in your mind now? Your inconsistency as a journalist makes your columns laughable. Also, I don’t think you’re giving Kentucky enough credit — they play a very physical brand of football and would take GT or any other ACC opponent to the woodshed. Lastly, the bowl in Shreveport no longer has a tie-in with the SEC. I get very amused because all of the Tech people think UGA ending up in Shreveport last year was based on the team’s performance when it had nothing to do with that. The Outback Bowl picked Auburn over UGA based solely on a business decision. UGA had a better record than Auburn last year and beat them head to head. The Outback Bowl thought Auburn would sell more tickets is why they picked them — they figured the Outback Bowl was starting to get somewhat stale for UGA fans. I hope UGA fans reject any future offers form the Outback Bowl — I’ll certainly never return to that bowl game again.

We outgained them by over 400 yards, defense was playing lights out, the recievers were catching the ball, the running backs held on to the ball and the offensive line blocked, FINALLY!! I’m all for a feel good end to our season if it’s underclassmen that are getting us there. We need to use this season to develop our boys that will be back in Athens next year. No offense to the seniors but they blew their shots with the pathetic performances in MS and CO this season. Leadership could and should have gotten us Ws in both of those games.
Murray is a stud and will need some toys he can rely on next season. As much as I love Green…he won’t be around next fall when optimism exists again in Athens. The coaches need to hit the recruiting trail hard and get a 5star toy at WR or RB.
The defense is looking soooo much better than Martinez’s nightmare last season. Kudos to them for making steady improvement all season long. Could anyone have imagined we were capable of a shutout last season??? Grantham has it working on that side…with youth nonetheless.

You know, people were making cracks at Auburn for getting past KY by 3 points. They are a very good football team. Miss State is another team that has surprised a lot of people.

Let’s keep things in perspective. Two wins vs crappy teams does not salvage a season. If they win the next two then we’ll talk about redemption. We still have major holes and until we see progress, I’m not buying

To any Auburn fans out there starting to talk like they are going to win the national title, GET REAL! Beating Arkansas was your only convincing win of the year. Auburn got very luck in their other wins. Their defense has to be one of the worst I have ever seen. Can’t win it all with that crap. Auburn will go 1-2 vs. Alabama, LSU, and UGA. Before you start saying there is no way UGA can beat Auburn, please see 4 years ago when a freshman QB and terrible UGA team came to Auburn and killed them. I believe Auburn was ranked #6 that year.

If after a Georgia win, multiply by 1000 to get a real picture, if Georgia loses, divide by 1000, Jeff’s usually off by about a 1000x worse than the way things are.
