We ran the ball well enough. We threw the ball well enough. We played defense well enough some of the time. You know what that points to as the problem…Coaching. It’s so painfully obvious. Bobo is not a good offensive coordinator. We moved the ball from the shot gun, but we always went back to the I formation when it counted. He always calls the wrong play at the wrong time.

Seriously? When’s the last game the we actually outcoached somebody? I can’t remember. It probably goes back to Auburn a couple of years ago.

3 and 4, game on the line, freshman QB, crappy OL and a kicker that can nail it from the railroad tracks……everyone go deep. This was the worst call I have EVER seen a UGA coach make. Time to face the music folks. We have the worst staff in the SEC. We have a RB coach coaching receivers. We have a WR coaching RBs. Our OL coach is not living up to the bill. Our OC couldn’t get a job in the sun belt conference and our HC is soft. McGarity needs to clean this mess up ASAP. Richt’s best team was in 01 and that was with Donnan’s players. Mark, go practice your backflips and let’s get a real coach in here.

Washaun Ealey keeps making big gaffes: a big fumble last week and two huge sacks caused by his missed blocks this week. I guess I am saying he is not a complete player. Good runner at times but capable of big goofs at terrible times. And I think you could say that about a lot of the players which means it’s the coaches. Richt brought some great things to Georgia but he has also failed to beat Florida and other big rivals. His teams get stomped a lot giving up huge numbers of points. That never happened before; at least not as regularly. Just flat out stomped by Alabama, Florida and Tennessee lately. And worst of all, he loses (at home) to schools like Vandy, South Carolina and Kentucky now. HIs vaunted road record is not so great lately and he plays about 50/50 with ranked teams at home and loses on the road. The negative is beginning to outweigh the positive. He’s resting on his laurels I guess. If he loses six or seven or eight games this year, which seems likely, his overall record will still look great. When you break it all down and look at recent years and the big failures in big games, he’s not getting it done. Pretty embarrassing. And by the way, will Georgia please dump the Jacksonsville game? That’s a home game for Florida.

CUZ I hope you didnt’ cus too much during the game. If Murry was healthy last year an got some game experience he would be real scary. Murry is good. He held the ball too long but he also didn’t throw but 1 INT.

Bobo went from utter conservative play calling last week, to inconsistent and play calling that simply didn’t make any sense…

When Richt first got here, he came with excitement and an unpredictable approach… He even went with the no-huddle… We were effective… We have slowly regressed offensively, and defensively we just can’t get the right players in place…

Why not trace steps back to what worked??

Offense looks like a middle school team, never thought I would see the Dawgs get this low again. We have played down to the opposing team for years never played up to the competetion.

I stopped by yesterday and mentioned that, while I wasn’t making predictions, based on the South Carolina game, Georgia didn’t look very good this year. After today’s game, I still think that’s the case. I think Arkansas fielded a better team today, and I know the play calling and execution was better on both sides of the ball. Our QB and our receivers are as good as any you will face this year – probably better. Georgia’s a great program and I think Richt is a good coach. Hopefully your administration doesn’t do anything rash. It can always be worse. Good luck with the rest of the season.

I’m a huge BullDawg fan, and anybody who expected different this season was just dreaming. When you install a 3-4 defense, with personnel recruited for the 4-3, you will have a learning curve. When you have a RSh. Fr. starting at QB in the SEC, you don’t have much chance. When you lose your top WR recruit and top CB recruit right before signing day, when CB was your biggest quality depth area need, and your top WR is ruled unable to play, your going to have problems.

I said before the season we would be 8-4, I’ll stick to that (ok, maybe 7-5). You give Grantham, Lakatos and company a couple of years to recruit the right personnel, we have Nat’l Championship caliber teams coming. Give it time and root like crazy for the Dawgs!

BTW – we lost to the #12 and #13 teams in the country – don’t hang your heads – we have war next week at Miss St.

P.S. – I actually thought we may start 1-3, then end up 8-4. Let’s be realistic. And if we can Richt now, we have years of re-building to wade through, and there’s no gurantee we hire a Nick Saban caliber guy. I would say Bobo’s job, and maybe Searels are on the line however…

Every year i count the days til football season. I make sure my saturdays are free so I can watch Georgia. During the off season I read blogs, keep up with recruits, etc. etc. As fall approaches I get excited and I hope “this year will be the year”, but every year I get disappointed. I love Georgia with all my heart. The Red and Black means a hell of alot to me. Its time!!! The players deserve better and so do the fans.

This is a bad football team that is poorly coached. At some point you Georgia fans are gonna look yourself in the mirror & tell yourself that the problem starts at the top & quickly rolls downhill from there!

Bring back Willie … he never lost in Columbia & he never lost to Arkansas (& he cost ALOT less!).

This team will lose 6-7 games this year. Overpaid coaches & bad players!

I grew up in ATL and southeast and now on the west coast where they don’t care much about college football out here except for maybe Oregon and USC – easy to understand when you have Pebble Beach, Tahoe, Wine Country, beaches all within a few hrs.

Let’s see – Fresh QB, starting FB injured, C King injured, AJ Green out, T Sturdivant out and maybe never coming back equals struggles in the SEC. AJ Green being out COMPLETELY changes the defensive scheme that the opponents have to install – watch how the offense looks a lot different in a few weeks if all those players return.

Let’s see – the 3/4 scheme on defense is a learning curve and if anyone here on the board played football will understand that plus this is still a pretty young defense.

What scares me is the lack of “physicality” of the OL as this denotes a lack of toughness which is either coaching or the recruiting of soft players. I also didn’t like the fact the RBs couldn’t pass block worth a you know what which is a requirement in the SEC. Finally, the fact you call a go route on 3rd and 5 at the end of the game is beyond me – you have to provide some type of check down option for the Freshman QB – I like Bobo as a person but it seems like he is underachieving as well as a Coordinator as the trend has worsened since Richt gave up the reins. All this along with the fact you let Ark go 79 yds in 3 plays at the end of the game proves again you were simply outcoached and have less talent on the field with less heart when the game is on the line.

The sky isn’t falling although I know how passionate people get about college football in the south, but UGA will have better days ahead – they now have a proven AD that obviously was successful at Fla and have all the financial backings and commitments from the top of the university downward.

Let’s see how this plays out, but I believe Alabama is by far the class of the SEC at this point.

You guys are all idiots… A play or two goes differently and everyone is praising UGA for winning a game in the SEC against a top 15 opponent. Over the past 10 years Richt has one of the best winning percentages in football. This is the first year and the 3rd game of a new defense… did you really think things would be better overnight? there are a lot of bad habits to break from the past 5 years… and for the Tech haters out there.. worry about your team.. you lost to Kansas, then barely beat a UNC team missing 12 players… get a life and pay attention to your own blog.

Jeff you are so off base as well as most of these fans. you praised tech after they lost last week to kansas ” nc fears grogh” if tech played sc or ark how many games would they win? not one. we should have one the game after that great comeback, but it is not the end of the world that we lost. tech just beat a nc team by 6 that has halve its starting team on suspension. arkansas was ranked 12, i am dissapointed we lost, but lets just wait till the end of the year before we call for someones job. last year everyone in this paper had tech beating us silly , how did that work out? i noticed last year you went on vacation after the game probally so you would not have to write about it. some thing must have happened between you and uga, because for the last 2,3 years the only time you write about them you spill venom. In the medium to long term PAST, UGA has not been very good. Stafford was a diamond in the rough and Moreno was gonna be something special and then, we got blown out with them by Bama and UT and Florida and Tech. They NEVER amounted to much beyond their hype.

Same is true of just about every kid up there. Aaron Murray is still fun to watch because you know that he cares. Beyond him and maybe Logan Gray and Chapas and the punter and the FG kicker and Kris Durden, I have no use for the bulk of the Dogs.

The excuse one yar like in 08, it was because “we lost Jeff Owens” is why we were so lousy and then in 09 “Cox had the flu”, but it was for the enitre year and Smith and Ealey fumbled in the KY game and we continued to lose with excuses.

Now? A long term business decision has to be made concerning the UGA football program. We have a new AD and the traditional lazy, good old boy connections in Athens might not be there anymore.

AD McGarity expec ts UGA to win like when he was a student here.

Time will tell. UGA is the North Carolina of the SEC. They recruit and “they are well coached and they are just fabulous and they have the fans and the alumni” but they end up always around 6-6 in the Liberty Bowl.

As for my alma mater UGA, I will not go sit in the stadium and put up with all of the stuff in Athens at my age …….I’ll sit at home and watch them fold. This season is gonna turn very, very ugly for us all.

Now I know why Dallas didn’t put up a fight to keep Grantham. I, along with a lot of others, thought he would bring some intensity, toughness to the Dawgs. BS! There is probably no one on Georgia’s schedule that is the least bit afraid of his BIG, BAD, TOUGH defense! Georgia would lose to Georgia State right now. Fire Bobo? I say let’s clean house and start over! Fundamentals are still not there and getting worse. Line blocking is horrible and Ealey’s half effort of a block almost got Murray killed. And the play calling is atrocious. How was Richt ever considered an offensive genius? Does no one stay home on punts to prevent a fake? No excuse for their punter getting a first down after he bobbled the snap. You can bet if we don’t get that fixed other teams will take take note. And how do receivers get that wide open. I was really expecting more out of our DC. Right now we have a promising young quarterback and a very mediocre team. And I expect things will get worse before and/or if they get better.

It’s time to clean (the Dawg) house. I’m sick of the conservative play calling and uninspired defense. It looks like the Dawgs have been playing in slow motion this season. I think CMR is a good man and was once a great coach, but I believe he’s lost his passion and is just going through the motions. It’s time to let him go. He’s done a UGA. The Dawgs will be nothing but average (or less than average as they are now) until CMR is gone.

Some of the play calling was hard to understand…. especially, the 3rd and 4 during the last offensive possession. Why wasn’t there a short option to which Murray could check down? Why wasn’t at least one receiver (preferably two) running a 5 yard route? Very puzzling.

On defense, tackling was pathetic. Regardless of “talent” (I use the term loosely), teams that tackle poorly and don’t execute the fundamentals don’t win championships. In fact, they don’t win, period.

Speaking of pathetic… You Tech people on this board are pathetic. You lose to Kansas, one of the worst teams in FBS, and you squeak by a UNC team missing 12 players. Then you get on here talking smack? I’ll say it again. Pathetic.

I’ll say it again.. First year new defensive scheme… 3rd game… anyone who has ever played realizes its not an overnight transitiion. Everyone is calling for the death penalty the case hasn’t started. Everyone thought UGA sucked and needed new coaches after the 2006 season.. then they finished #2 in the country in 2007. You never know how the season will end. Everyone will agree that the defense had been atrocious. Give Grantham time, and Jeff if you really think that Grantham and the D is so bad… admit it.. when he was hired you mentioned him being the “Right man for the Job” and could be great.. now your writing him off… why don’t you right something and stick by it.

Butler on the WSb radio call in show said quite a few fans left in early 3rd qtr. THAT will get the AD’s attention …………..that is how it began for Goff. The administrators have to view that to make a change. It began today and it will get very, very ugly if UT comes in and works UGA over. Wow!!

The uGA program has been passed by by the better teams ( all of them ) in the SEC and we are alone in LAST PLACE in the SEC East.

Richt’s biggest flaw is that he is not hiring the “right” assistants….and then when they are not getting the job, he waits toooo looong to replace them. We have all seen his teams over the last 3 years taking steps backward (under Martinez & Bobo). Why isn’t Richt calling the plays??…..apologies to Bobo’s mom, but he is not a SEC offensive coordinator!
Most of Richt’s best teams were with Richt calling the plays and VanGorder leading the defense.
………..maybe Will Muschamp will be here next year…wel need a leader that is either high energy and/or attitude (in addition to talent)…and Richt has neither. Since the firey VanGorder left, each year the team has become softer and less emaotional……in addition to wasting sooo much talent….

I want to see CMR get mad – but he’s too COOL for that. Maybe Bobbie Bowden (CMR’s mentor) had it right when he said that MR was a great man and great asst. – but not a head coach. For all the fun that Dawg fans take at the Evil Genius (Steve – the old ball coach) for throwing visors – perhaps CMR needs to do the same – throw his headset or those dark fishing sunglasses – do SOMETHING. Hel* this is FOOTBALL – SHOW SOME EMOTION and some STONES.
I think Bobbie might be right – CMR (though a fine man) is not head-coaching material.

i am starting to think since cmr came to uga he has managed to take some exc players and turn them into avg players now he is trying to take some above avg players and turn them into below avg players.
should he be fired? i don’t know, because i not sure that the powers that be at uga would find someone better.
as for bobo he did not have enough experience to be made oc, right now he is following cmr advice and is calling plays that cmr wants called. he is doing what he has been taught.

Let’s all take a step back and look at the big picture. Before Richt got here the program had been average at best for the previous what 18 years? He has two SEC titles and multiple bowl wins. While we were scrubbing around in the Goff and Donnan years the rest of the SEC caught up. Florida was a garbage program before Spurrier got there and now they own us. A losing record this year and I say yes it’s time for a change but I am one that is willing to give CMR the full season to show us if he can be the coach of 02 and 05. I love UGA as much as anyone but it’s times like these we all need to take a deep breath and realize there are 9 more games left in the season. If you can’t deal with the down years then you don’t deserve the good ones. All you cry babies stop being fans of my beloved Georgia Bulldogs.

Tech fans, again you play in the ACC, a road win there is worth as much as Boise State’s win against Va Tech…..laughable.

I disagree with you on Grantham not looking better than Willie, Jeff. He has no size up front to run a 3-4 like we see in the NFL. Give the man some time to get his recruits in there and the D will prove more consistent. For proof, take a quick look at Bama. However, I will have no faith in the future of the Dawgs’ offensive coaching until a coaching change is made. Bobo is ruining a brilliant, talented young QB. Pretty sad that our season is over before it could begin…

Two games do not make a season. The offense and defense have done well in spurts. If we become more consistent, we can win some games. We miss Caleb King and Shaun Chapas as much as AJ at moment.

We are not recruiting the right players. We are not coaching them up and we don’t seem to have a plan to change it. As painful as it is to say, the coaching staff must take full responsibility and a change of course will eventually be necessary. The question remains, how long will it take. I have confidence in G. McGarity to right the ship, but it will take some time.

I’m kind of surprised no one else has locked into the essence of the Richt conundrum: IF you believe he should be replaced, name a coach who is a definitive upgrade on both recruiting AND on-field coaching, who is absolutely willing to leave their job and come to Georgia. The seeming, and frustrating, reality is that he’s one of the top-five recruiters in the country. And in the SEC that’s a must to compete.

Doesn’t appear that he’s as good a coach as Meyer, Saban or Spurrier, but who is? And I don’t know of anyone in his “peer” group who will leave the gig they have to coach Georgia (great job, but who is leaving another top-10 or 20 program for it). So your prospective talent pool is guys who either are doing awesome at lesser programs, or “hot assistant of the week” types that surge to the front of the media line every season.

It’s unlikely that you can find a guy who can out recruit Richt. And the coaches who are clearly better than him all have great jobs. Days like today are frustrating for a Georgia fan (alum), but I don’t see a drastic move that assures us that things would be better.

Good points about the O-line. What the heck is up with that? New D takes time to jell, as does a new QB. Seems like Georgia never meshes a supposedly “great” line with an experienced QB.

SEC is better than ever. Still seems like Georgia players think they can win games just because they wear the red and black. Can only hope that they’ll respond to two “L’s” and improve. But the season is only 3 games old, and talk about firing coaches is a waste of breathe. When the last time Georgia made a big coaching change mid-season? Better plan on dancing with the one that “brung ‘ya” and hope this team steps up……

Watched Caoch Saban of Bama being upset even when his team was up by about 40 points…he doesn’t seem to accept mediocrity but the dawgs seem to these days..very disappointed in Coach Bobo’s play calling for the most part…he did throw in a few wrinkles and the our )-line coaching doesn’t seem to be there and if it is then they are not as good as we once thought…Please correct me but did O. Charles get any passes thrown to him today…”0″, i think…and to make matters worse we had one of the top tight end recruits in the nation on hand today and yet we throw maybe one pass to them…absurd that we can’t find ways to get the ball to some of our playmakers…I keep hearing if only AJ were here, well he isn’t and won’t be next year so we better start finding ways to develop our talent…I know we are young and are missing some key players but thats where coaching should come and players stepping it up…I’m proud of how we fought back, but disappointed in some of the blown coverages or whatever the situations were that left their receivers absolutely wide open…I’m afraid that Coach Bobo is going to get the rash of the blame and unless the season turns around the dawg fans will be calling for him to be relieved of his duties at the end of the year…I’m still behind the dawgs but am very concerned in the direction we are headed…

In all honesty…..the Gators really miss Mullen’s imaginative play calling. I think our new OC (who was also terrible last year) got his training at “3 yards and a cloud of dust and then a 2 yard dunk univerisyt.” I can call every play he runs….as I am sure the DC coordinator for the other team can do. Right now…Bama is going to beat us by 24 points unless the offense gets its act togehter…and I don’t think it will with our OC calling plays. He is worse than Bobo.

Now we no why Kirby Smart turned down the coordinator job because he didn’t want to kill his career by coaching for quoir boy and his soft undisciplined players. Football players follow the lead of their head coach. Richt is a passive, soft, and loves to make excuses. His players see this laissez faire attitude everyday. So it really doesn’t matter who they bring in to coach the D because they will underachieve just like their head coach. RICHT IS THE MAIN PROBLEM.

No problems with what Grantham said, the players have to be held accountable at some point. There are only so many coaches you can fire. Against SC, the players didn’t tackle. Against UA, the players got beat in coverage. TG can call the right play everytime, but if Rambo has no clue what his assignment is than that is his fault.

Didn’t see the first three quarters, but one of those sacks Murray took in the fourth was because Ealey missed a block. And I heard another on radio, where Eric Zeier clearly put the blame on Ealey for missing a block.

Seems like the coaches are saying the right things, but the players aren’t always buying it. Which is why their names keep showing up on the police blotter, and why the Dawgs are 0-2 in the SEC.

So…either UGA needs coaches that these players will listen to, or different players who will listen to these coaches.

And, yes, I am available at my usual rates.

He is 91-28 in 10 seasons with the Bulldogs and 7-2 in bowl games. 91-28! with a 77% winning percentage! That is better than Vince Dooley who everyone considers the best coach in the programs history. Dooley didn’t win his ONLY national championship until his 17th season as coach. So Richt is void what? A national championship? Most of you are forgetting exactly how hard that is to do. You are criticizing a man with values second to no one. One of the most respected men/coaches in the entire country. All the man has done is average 8+ wins over 10 seasons. FIND MORE THAN A HANDFUL of coaches who have EVER done that well. And to boot, he has done it in THE BEST FOOTBALL CONFERENCE IN AMERICA. I am sick of fair weather fans like most of you who want to blame someone and feel empowered to dictate who stays and who goes on a weekly basis. The last call on the final drive was horible. 3rd and 4 should have been a running PLAY. Even if you don’t make it, maybe it is 4th and one and you consider going for it. Richt and Bobo don’y like to run the ball period. Every time we get in have groove and start running with some consistantly the opposing coaches don’t have to worry about it. Ga will throw a pass. They can’t stop it and will not stick to running even when it is working. QUESTION: What do you do when you have a new young QB? You RUN THE BALL!!!!! That takes pressure off him. However, Bobo and CMR think you need to go deep. We were on the 50 and needed about 30 yards and had 2 time outs with 50 seconds left. Why are we planning a hail mary??? Terrible!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Both Richt and Bobo. Richt needs to go to because he does not see anything wrong with it. If he ever gets rid of Bobo it will be in an effort to save his job, not because he knows what he is doing. HE DOESN”T.

Kerryb, we get the same type talent as other top SEC schools.Trust me it’s the coaching and not the players fault. All 18-21 year old kids will be undisciplined if it is allowed. Guys like saban don’t put up with that immature bs and they mold their players into men who want to win championships. I can feel the anger and the pain. The Bulldawg nation is indeed suffering. Let’s get to the nuts and bolts of this seemingly dire situation.

Offensive: It is predictable, unimaginative and sometimes rather stupid. Not allowing a check down outlet for Murray is unconscionable. Bobo’s play-calling is suspect at best. No swing passes or 5 yard drags by the backs at all. The offensive line is not performing to expectations, but when the other team loads the box with 7-8 players, because their D-backs are able to cover our receivers one-on-one, blocking becomes even more difficult. Except for the one pass to Aaron White, our TEs were non-existent and we have stable of them. Did Charles even catch a pass?

Defense: Gave up too many big plays. At times they looked good and then bam a big play occurs, no one’s sure of their responsibilities, and an Arkansas receiver walks into the end zone with nary a Georgia player within 20 yards. Inexcusable for that kind of breakdown to occur. That was the same problem we had last year. It’s obvious that Coach Grantham doesn’t have his personnel in place, but one player always seems to be out of position one of every 20 plays causing the meltdown. And that’s all it takes.

Coaching; Subpar so far. Richt needs to go against his true personality and light some asses up. He was able to rally the team in the fourth quarter with some sort of motivational speech at the start of it. He needs to be able to get that type of spark out of his team in the other 3 quarters as well. It shouldn’t take a 14 point deficit to motivate these players. Bobo is not improving as a coordinator. On of his biggest flaws is that he does not put place his skilled players in positions where they can succeed. Not enough one on one match-ups in space, especially in that 5-10 yard range; an area where one missed tackle can result in a 30 yard gain. Coach Searles best coaching job as a Bulldawg was in his first year here. Most of the season last year, the line was anemic. This year the line has played inconsistently, surprizing for a unit that was projected to be one of the country’s best. Not having AJ Green also hurts the production of the O-line as mentioned above. Grantham has his work cut out for him. I don’t believe he is a problem or will be in the future, considering his pedigree of coaching in the NFL and working with Coach Saban and Coach Beamer. he just has to understand the limitations of his talent and don’t put players in positions in which they won’t perform. Get the non performers out of the game if they aren’t contributing.

Recruiting: Perhaps this is the biggest problem. Despite so many top 15 recruiting classes the team hasn’t performed to that level in 3 years. Some one argue that this a sign of poor coaching and perhaps that is totally accurate, but our defensive players are undersized and not strong enough. We have no depth at QB which should have never happened. Our running back depth doesn’t seem much better. Except for AJ Green, our skill players don’t appear to be play-makers. Our inside linebackers aren’t big, Our nose is too small for a true 3-4. Not much size in our DBs. It seems that Richt and his staff have recruited many more “finese players” than power players. If you compare Alabama players, the benchmark for the SEC, to Georgia players, the size strength, and speed discrepancy is obvious. We have a long way to go. it starts with recruiting, then coaching.If you take care of the first aspect, the second one becomes a little easier. Enuff said!

Yeah, I know it sounds crazy but it reminds me alot of 2007 when we lost to South Carolina and then got whitewashed at Tennessee. Things could not have been worse in Dawgland and then we held on to win at Vanderbilt went on a tear and ended up ranked #2 in the nation. So keep watching and we will see who is right.

TampaGator, i figured you would take your shots at the dawgs and i guess they deserve it…I don’t think your gators looked to great against Tenn, but hey you won and are undefeated, we can’t say that…Our DC i think will be fine, but he needs to get some people in here that fit his schemes and coaching attitude…I’m not ging to compare DC’s right now, we all know your talent level on defense is above the dawgs right now…I am concerned about our offensive schemes, dispite the absense of AJ..O/ Charles had absoulutely “0″ passes thrown to him..our other tight end had maybe one, possibly two…This team dispite the first 3 quarters did show some real life in the last quarter, i was proud to see that, but some unbelievable playcalling on our next to last posession when we were running very good, we decided on third and four to send our receivers 20 yards down field and of course we know how that turned out…I have always defended the dawgs as you well know but i am sadly becoming dischanted with the coaching…I know the coaches can’t keep the players from fumbling or dropping passes, that is the players responsibilities…and as far as our O-line, well what we all thought including the media, is that thaat would be a strength, but i haven’t been impressed too much so far…I still think Coach Richt is a very good coach and brings in some very good talent and we have some great recruits committed for next year, but if this trend continues, the dawg nation will be calling for additional changes…Ususally when that happens your program falls behind a few years….I hope it doesn’t come to that, the season still is young and i think we will or should improve every week in every phase, but the patient is wearing thin….

If Georgia’s offense does not improve when Green returns, Bobo will be fired by year’s end. Georgia’s defense will improve by year’s end, a switch to a 3-4 takes time. The question is who will Georgia get to fill in for Green next year. Richt is one of the top recruiters in the country. You don’t get rid of that. Of course he does have the advantage of being the only in-state program available to most of the blue chip athletes in a state that worships high school football.

Jeff, I agree there are multiple problems, but 3 games doesn’t a season make. There’s still a lot of talent on this team, and the past two weeks we’ve played, quite frankly, two teams that are better than UGA right now. Granted the defensive woes are glaring — the secondary looked really bad this week after the run defense stunk last week. The offensive line has been offensive at times — I don’t know what the problem is there, but I suspect it’s just that the talent level isn’t as good it’s been touted.

This being said, I don’t believe there’s reason to panic and turn on Richt and the team. Arkansas has one of the better QBs in the country — he’s going to make a lot of people look bad this year. Our QB is a Freshman getting bettter each week. USC seems to have their best team in years. We figured to struggle early with a new QB and a new defense. I think the team has gotten beeter each week in many respects. Let’s come back after the UT Game and see where things stand.

Jeff, The only point of your article that makes is accurate is the offense playcalling. Bobo has to be replaced. You’ve got to remember — we lost two very close ballgames (could have gone either way) to two SEC teams in the top 15. This isn’t beating an ACC team devoid of 12 players. With some smart playcalling in the last two games — Georgia probably wins. Also, you can’t pin those sacks on the line — most were due to the backfield not staying on their blocks. Call the right plays — and UGA gets back on the winning track.

Seriously dawgnation how many bonafide 5 stars DO we REALLY have one that’s it soit should be no surprise we are where we are. Secondly our guys football IQ is quite low. My biggest disappointment is i don’t think the coaches were quite honest during spring or preseason THIS is not a good team How did they ever think it was. 82dawg..agree the backs have got to pick up the blocks, but i think if we are honest in our accessment we can see that the O-line has not been very consistant especially in some crucial downs…Alos, Murray will get better, i hope, in not holding on to the ball so long, but then that also goes to our receivers having to get separation…I now in the case of Ark their receiveres did get alot of separation…

Dawgs, our “experienced” offensive line is either weak or hurt. They are getting little if surge from the snap. The two SEC opponents we have faced so far performed at least are” half as good again” as our lineman. Searles, is in a lot of us fans “eyesight” right now. We look lower average in our conference. If we are hurt, I hope they heal up again in a hurry, Little, if any true holes opened up for Ealey or Thomas this year. IF, our offensive linemen are weak or lack desire we are in for another tough year.. Murray, in my opinion.looks fine for the amount of starting playing he has had. Bobo, needs to be mentored/monitored strongly by Richt himself. Bobo, is not OC top flight caliber in our conference from what I have witnessed this year.. Hope the DAWG “tide” changes, In a HURRY!

If I was McGarity, I’d try a simple experiment. I’d bench all the coaches for a game against somebody decent. Say Kentucky because by then we’ll have 4 losses. I’d then let Murray call his own plays on offense and let the graduate assistants call the defense. Then see how it goes. These players are so used to having someone do their thinking for them, they fail to execute. If it’s anywhere close to as good (or in this case, as bad) as when the coaches are making the calls, then you instantly know where the problem lies. I can’t imagine it would be a bad thing. We might then learn something about our players. Pie in the sky I know, but you gotta try something.

I wonder if any of the books about UGA football include the perspective of someone speaking for the late Jan Kemp? The perspective that “student” athletes like Lindsay Scott were playing years without taking college level courses? That the proudest moment of the football program was earned by players who never earned a single college credit?

Dawgtards love to return to 1980, but their memories are really short when it comes to remembering an earthshaking event that happened a few years later that showed the world what a joke UGA athletes were and what a scam artist their beloved Vince Dooley was (and is). So for all those dawgtards with short memories or who think their athletes are actually taking real courses and trying to graduate, here’s the quote that broke the trial wide open and showed what a slimeball Dooley is:

O. Hale Almand Jr., a lawyer for the defense, offered a justification for the favorable treatment accorded the athletes, citing a hypothetical player. “We may not make a university student out of him,” he told the jury, “but if we can teach him to read and write, maybe he can work at the post office rather than as a garbageman when he gets through with his athletic career.”

Nothing has changed at UGA, they just do a slightly better job of keeping things quiet, but that’s hard to do when 44 of your player-thugs have been arrested, isn’t it?

Being a coach ain’t no picnic for sure. You’ve got a million experts looking over your shoulder. But the record speaks for itself. Apart from the Green-Shockley years this train has not had much momentum. Even the Stafford-Moreno years were underachieving. The coaches can draw up the plays but they can’t play them. The talent bank is lacking.

We have become a 2 tier team in the SEC and going down lower than that.Our program is not important in the SEC anymore and has the direction of becoming the laughing stock of the nation.I do feel for Richt,but he brought this on himself for actions taken the last five years.Our recruitment of players shows we have a big problem in this area. Both in judging talent and the overall character of the player. He(Richt) has lost all control of the football program. He will resign or be replaced at he end of this season.

We’re a program with no identity, focus, or confidence and that’s frustrating to watch. I liked the way the guys fought today, and because of that I think they will eventually break out of this funk. But it just seems like this team is trying too hard to figure out how to win. This is the equivalent of a slump in baseball. They just need to settle down, take what the other teams give them AND play smart. The foundation of any good team is strong fundamentals. In the past UGA could get by with sloppy play because their talent could carry them to victory, but not anymore. If this team goes 6-6 because of bad fundamentals then this coaching staff needs to go.

All spring and fall, every coach harped on Murray “protecting the ball.” No interceptions! The kid’s going to be a good QB but right now he’s scared to throw unless the receiver is wide open. That’s a coaching problem. They’ve taken his confidence away and made him afraid to take chances. So, he gets sacked six times.

In the NFL the test for keeping a HC is whether you think he can lead your team to a Super Bowl championship – for most college programs the bar realistically is set lower (winning the conference championship for most programs)

The SEC is different for the top programs = Georgia aspires to be measured against Alabama and Florida, which means Georgia presumably either sets winning a NC as the standard or should concede that standard is unrealistic

Since UGA presumably does not concede it should not be competing for a NC, ask yourself if Mark Richt’s career path at UGA is on that trajectory – I bet the new AD is

Just to be contrary . . .

Why I hold out some hope (and none of this is to deny the o-line problems, the defensive lapses, the questionable play calling, etc.)

1. Penalties way down, especially moronic personal fouls (that will pay off sooner or later)

2. What Lattimore and Mallet have done to UGa the last couple of weeks they’ll do to a lot of other teams this year, too – we’re not losing to chumps.

3. We’re in it right up to the end.

4. Despite the hysteria here, these coaches have a good track record.

5. A.J. is coming back.

Douglas you are right. Even though UT has 2 losses I have been very impressed with how Tennessee has played. They are organized, disciplined, and play with a lot of heart,passion, and effort for all 4 quarters, basically the exact opposite of a Mark Richt coached UGA team. At the beginning of the year I had UT marked down as a easy win but now it could very easily be another L.

I have watched a ton of football over the years and it is not Martinez or Bobo that will ultimately cost Richt his job. It is the strength and conditioning coach. Every year the SEC teams all recruit great high school players. Watch and Alabama, Auburn, Florida or even Arkansas game and look at the differece in the size and speed of the players compared to Georgia. UGA do not have 1 Div. 1 runnign back on roster. I am watching the Auburn vs Clemson game and their backup RB’s are better than any back at UGA. Size and Speed UGA is lacking.

Good grief please watch the links from previous spots and see the post game interview. This is a coach walking into his SEC grave and its like someone else said, “He is punch drunk or something” Can’t understand his line of thinking at all!! UF/UA just reload year after year. Other than 2003, 2005 which UGA had other teams lose to put us in the championship game, its been way too much talent and just bad coaching that leaves our kids looking flat footed and confused time and time again!! Richt is flat out outgunned in the new post 2005 SEC. Who are we really going to beat this year?? How far has this program fallen from the 2007 Season where we STILL didn’t play in the SEC game because of the typical “SLOW”??? starts by Richts team! With great players we are not even a top 20 team any more??? I think the fan base has woken up to what I have seen for the last 5 years. Richt needs to go be a OC for NC State!! UGA deserves better than the crap we have been getting for the last 5 years. The school pays BIG money for the HC position and there is NO reason for Peterson or Smart or Muschamp etc…. not to take a serious look at it. Gruden/Cower/Harbaugh I don’t care get a coach who cares less about his hair. Get me a man who shows his emotions and spends less time with his spiritual devotions. Coach your nose has been in the book so much now it is showing up in your player’s on field touch.

The criticism of Richt that I cannot deny has legs is that he hasn’t recruited well. Sure he gets big time talent, but it is never dispersed well. He ends up with six QBs and no linemen. It is just strange that it never seems to gel. There never seems to be a solid, gel year when a major star is there. Everyone says the Murray years will begin next season when AJ will be gone and the O-line will be gone.

I think there’s a lot of truth in the jeers. Richt had some big seasons, but didn’t really play anyone. The guns have just never seemed to fire in synch. I have to admit as much as I have been against firing Richt, maybe it is time for a new approach.

Basically, you got four more games: UT, UF, AU, and GT. If he doesn’t win three out of four of those and one of the wins being UF, I bet Richt gets to go fishing with his old boss next season.

I grew up in ATL and southeast and now on the west coast where they don’t care much about college football out here except for maybe Oregon and USC – easy to understand when you have Pebble Beach, Tahoe, Wine Country, beaches all within a few hrs.

Let’s see – Fresh QB, starting FB injured, C King injured, AJ Green out, T Sturdivant out and maybe never coming back equals struggles in the SEC. AJ Green being out COMPLETELY changes the defensive scheme that the opponents have to install – watch how the offense looks a lot different in a few weeks if all those players return.

Let’s see – the 3/4 scheme on defense is a learning curve and if anyone here on the board played football will understand that plus this is still a pretty young defense.

What scares me is the lack of “physicality” of the OL as this denotes a lack of toughness which is either coaching or the recruiting of soft players. I also didn’t like the fact the RBs couldn’t pass block worth a you know what which is a requirement in the SEC. Finally, the fact you call a go route on 3rd and 5 at the end of the game is beyond me – you have to provide some type of check down option for the Freshman QB – I like Bobo as a person but it seems like he is underachieving as well as a Coordinator as the trend has worsened since Richt gave up the reins. All this along with the fact you let Ark go 79 yds in 3 plays at the end of the game proves again you were simply outcoached and have less talent on the field with less heart when the game is on the line.

The sky isn’t falling although I know how passionate people get about college football in the south, but UGA will have better days ahead – they now have a proven AD that obviously was successful at Fla and have all the financial backings and commitments from the top of the university downward.

Let’s see how this plays out, but I believe Alabama is by far the class of the SEC at this point.

What happened today is dagger to the spirit & life vessel of the team. The game was lost by the coaches for lack of respect for the opposing coach (Petrino was a lousy NFL coach), poor coaching (center not snapping the ball when the D-line in the neutral zone), and poor play calling ( causing the QB to many too many reads & sight-assignments resulting in him holding the ball “too long). Maybe Bobo can stay as QB coach and Searls ???. The gameplan is not to the players’ strengths. Where was speedster Branden Smith? TE/LB mismatch? Or the slip screen to a WR (zero route)? Wishful thinking (I guess). We are laughable to the media & the rest of college FB. Bottom line:: UGA has lost its power & respect — as a program and a university. I hate to say it, but there’s NO WAY Jim Tressell, Pete Carroll, Urban Meyer, nor Nick Saban loses this game tied with ball on the 50-yd line with 2:55 to play… sorry! Explains why their team plays for WINS BCS championships!

10 – 2 is not possible. 9 – 3 is doubtful. My guess is 6 – 6 at best and if Bobo is not fired – then I’ll start the campaign to fire Richt myself! But lets be honest – the defense sucks as bad as the offense. 380 yards in the air! WIDE open receivers with our defenders trailing down the field watching their butts enter the endzone 20 yards behind! Come on! Should have saved the money and kept Martinez!

0 – 2 in the SEC for the first time in 17 years! Since the Hawaii game GA looks like a program that said, “Ah, we ain’t ever really gonna make it to the big time. Lets shoot for mediocre.” The problem with that is that this team is not mediocre – it is bad! With bad coaching!

“How do you assess the leadership of this 1-2 team ?”

The most pitiful part of this is all the back-slapping and high-fiving if GA wins at Miss State and Colorado, two below-average teams. You can be sure Miss State will be even with GA in the 4th quarter next week. That game is at best decided by a field goal. Colorado may be a two TD win, but it will be the closest loss Colorado has because of the reserved play-calling of Richt and Bobo.

Let’s face facts. Richt’s staff is in shambles. Bobo has ALWAYS been overmatched (he belongs in the high school ranks). Searels I have no clue, but he is failing. Garner is recruiting all the “5 stars” that are clearly not as good as Scout and Rivals ranks them. Where are the tight ends? Where are the passes across the middle in the flats? Where is ANY imaginative play-calling that takes advantage of the opposing defense’s weaknesses?

Prediction: GA finishes 7-5 (which is really 5-5 since SW Louis and Idaho St are gimmies). Richt may survive into 2011, but it looks unlikely he will be around in 2012. The quality of conference coaching (and even the assistants) have passed him by. The program is slowly fading, and next year season tickets will be plentiful with minimal donations.

When do we ever play 4 qrts. of football….trust me….this program..under the Richt Regime is heading to the level of Vanderbilt….I watch football teams in all conferences…Washua would not start for any other SEC team….Carlton #30…is 5′2…no chance against SEC defensive front …we have 2 qrt. backs. the last 2 years that have started the season..without ever starting a game…BOBO would not be an OC in any division 1 program…no dominate players on defense….watch how Florida and Alabama..manage a football game…not coach…they are great in every area of managing the game….last time I looked their players are the same age as ours….I will not go to another UGA game…as long as Richt and BOBO are on the sideline…it’s just to painful to waste a good Saturday on watching “bad football”…Richt is the guy that red-shirted Moreno..best back we have had in 10 years…it’s get everyone together at the beginning of the 4th qrt…and do a mo speech..and then execute the worst 2 minute drill in the history of Ga. football!

No other good teams left on the schedule except what, Ga Tech (Richt’s 8-1 against those boys), Auburn (Richt’s 4-0 against the War Eagles). Florida is hurting this year. Georgia goes 12-2, finishes in the top 5.

“FL is now proven to be a pack of pansies”? How’s that? They haven’t played well, but they’ve managed to win all of their games. How about Tech? Lost to a bottom-rung Big12 team last week didn’t they? Had to fight for all they were worth to beat a UNC team that is missing 60% of their starters. Watch your mouth, son. UF would steamroll your second rate team!

All of you so-called DAWG fans can kiss my big white A@%!!! This is only football. It is about playing the games and getting better. These kids played their hearts out and came up a little short. SO WHAT!! There will be another game next week!! All you “EXPERTS” calling for the firing of CMR, CMB and CTG after three games should just get over yourselves!!!!!! All the doom and gloom and whining coming from the same people who were lauding the DAWGS after the first game, makes me want to hurl. Please find some other avenue in your life in which to find some happiness, because you have completely lost all perspective. Football as in life is about competing and trying to get better.

SEC ref calling a game at an SEC team who didn’t see ref calls affecting the outcome. Clemson’s Int should have been a touch back. USC, Auburn, and Arkansas are not top 15 teams.

UGA fans, the season isn’t over. If you can beat Florida, you will still have a decent season.

I’d say if you lose to FL again, your season is a total waste. Forget about SEC or NC, just set your goal to beat FL for the remainder of the season.

Do any of ya’ll remember back in 1980 how we won the national championship? Our boys sure fought hard and we won. We beat a good Notre Dame team with Mr. Hershel Walker leading the way. I watched every game and have always been a GA Bulldog fan. We will be back, just wait and see.
