Glaus deserves credit for way he reacts to Braves’ trade

When the Braves decided to deal for Derrek Lee . . .

When the Braves decided to deal for Derrek Lee . . .

(Updated: 8:50 p.m.)

As someone who has taken his share of shots at Troy Glauslike here and also here and maybe here — it’s only fair that I give credit to the Braves’  outgoing first baseman for something when it’s warranted.

When the Braves acquired Derrek Lee from the Chicago Cubs Wednesday, it would have been very easy for Glaus to throw a fit about the trade.

He could have told the Braves, “Just release me,” and they probably would have obliged. He could have publicly complained about going on the disabled and certainly about being sent to the minor leagues. Because folks, there’s a decent chance that Glaus, the Braves’ most important player over a six-week period in May and June, very well may have had his final significant at-bat in Atlanta.

But Glaus didn’t do that. He didn’t squawk. He acknowledged (in actions, if not words) that his knees are a major issue right now and agreed to go on the DL. For a guy who has made close to $80 million in his career and presumably doesn’t need the money, he’s also clearly determined to prove to doubters — maybe less to the Braves than all the other teams, as he looks ahead to this winter — that he is not finished and can still play third base (his preferred position).

A sampling of Glaus’s comments:

♦ “I’ll go down [to Gwinnett], play third and hopefully come back here and do that for this team.”

♦ “Obviously I don’t want to go on the DL, but at this time if we can get a little healthier, coming back in September [we can] make a good run at the end.”

♦  “I obviously don’t harbor any ill will. It’s something that made our team better. Hopefully I can come back in 15 days and be the third baseman and make us even better than that.”

The plan, as outlined by general manager Frank Wren, is for Glaus to rest for a week and then try to play some games at third for the G-Braves. Wren indicated then Glaus could be recalled when rosters expand Sept. 1.

But understand something: This ensures nothing for Glaus, as it pertains to this Braves’ season. He might get some at-bats off the bench and he conceivably could get a spot start. But playing time is not guaranteed, particularly during a pennant stretch, and there certainly are no assurances that he would be on the postseason roster if the Braves make the playoffs.

Glaus could have asked out and he chose not to. For that, he showed a lot more class and professionalism than many — if not most — in his position would.

Finally, credit to Wren for the way he handled this delicate matter. When he spoke of the Lee trade before Wednesday’s game, he made a point to first say that the deal would not have been possible without Glaus because it was he who helped put the Braves in this position for a trade in a pennant stretch. It was as nice a way as possible for a general manager to soften the blow.

Lee doesn’t come with any assurances, either. It’s never a good sign when somebody requires an epidural for a bulging disc in his back, even if that same player had just hit four home runs over three days. But it’s an inexpensive gamble by Wren — three low-level minor league prospects and some salary — and one that could wind up paying huge dividends.

Kudos all around.

Finally, someone speaks up and acknowledges Glaus’s contribution to this team. If not for his hot May-June, would we even be in this position for the whiners to whine? He looks worse trying to walk than Bobby Cox, and he’s had double knee replacement, but yet continued to play at “his 100%, and as far as any of us know, with no complaint or excuses.

I say a simple “Thanks Troy” is in order. Just call me OldSchool……

I agree Jeff. Glaus took it like a man but he also knows that the Braves have a good shot at the playoffs and wants a chance to play in the post season. He will have to comeback and play well if he wants a spot on the post season roster. If the Braves were out of it I think he would have elected to leave the team.

Why is Glaus lauded for being classy? Is it because he conceded his spot as an everyday player to a better player? Or is it becasue he did so for a better BLACK player? Would this article even have the same spin unless a big black guy from Chicago were taking Glossy’s spot? Glaus has been solid for us this year, no doubt, but please don’t credit him for doing what any major leaguer is expected to do.

I am an avid Braves fan, and I don’t mean to stir the pot or mess up the good vibes Braves Nation has goin on right now. My rhetoric is strictly for journalistic purposes. Schultzy this article has some insinuations which depict Glaus as a hero for being an average first baseman who was bumped for a better player.

He could have asked out? Why would he? The Braves are leading an exciting pennant race for the first time in five years! Atlanta is buzzing, and Bobby is soon to be gone. Who wouldn’t want to be a part of this? Please spare ME of your heroic portrayal of Glaus.

WEB Dubois – Why do you want to bring race into it? Glaus is a class act and so is Lee. If Glaus was healthy, you probably wouldn’t have needed the trade. I am glad we have Derek Lee and I think Glaus can come back and maybe PH or play alittle third. The bottom line is the Braves have as deep a bench as they have ever had in Atlanta.

In retrospect the Braves should have just stayed with Adam LaRoche ( 20 Hr’s and 75 RBI). But I’m not complaining as it appears that the Cubs all but gave Derrek Lee to our Braves. The three minor league pitchers are of little consequence when considering the great pitching prospects we have in Julio Teheran, Arodys Vizcaino, Randall Delgado and Craig Kimbrel. Atlanta just called up Mike Minor or he would be on the same list.

As it is the Braves just became serious post season contenders as Derrek Lee is going to be a big right handed bat in the middle of the Braves order. Frank Wren, well done.

he’s a professional and realizes more than anyone else he looks clueless at the plate. sure he’s played hurt. wouldn’t you if you knew every 50 more times you come to the plate you’re gonna pocket $300k? i don’t wanna sound critical, but with such an incentive-laden contract based on at-bats troy would have had the batboys roll him out there in an ironlung to “dig in” without a complaint–and, no way i can blame him.

good luck to him in gwinnett but his knees are shot this season. he looks as if he’s on stilts out there. i can’t begin to imagine how he’s gonna have the mobility to contribute at third base when he returns to ATL. i’d rather see him focus on getting his eye back on the ball so he can contribute as a pinch hitter. that’s where we need him to be clutch!

Glaus is a big reason why the Braves are in first, but he also has to realize he hasn’t contributed much in the last month and a half. Better than anyone else, he has to know what his aged legs can contribute.

You are forgetting one thing. Glaus is a lifetime .254 hitter in the regular season, but has a .338 postseason avg with 9 HRs and 16 RBIs. The Braves would be foolish to write him off. More likely, you are the fool for acting like a petulant fantasy geek most of the time.

Jeff, I admire you and you seem like a great guy. Professionally, though, you play both sides of the fence too much. Earlier, you wrote a column “If the Braves get Lee, should they drop kick Glaus?”
Just by the headline alone, you obviously weren’t thinking that highly of Glaus (”drop kick?”). It’s only when Glaus acted the way he did re: Lee trade, that you elevated him to St. Troy status.

All I’m saying is: you can write so much better Jeff. Thanks for letting me have my say.

I couldn’t agree more that Troy Glaus deserves a lot of credit. I have been saying for a month that he is a much better player than we have seen in that time. This man simply carried us in May and most of June and was the NL player of the month. He didn’t suddenly forget how to play. As I have said all along, he needs rest and may be able to come back as a force when we need him the most.

Let’s quit bashing Troy. It was obvious by his comments in May that he was the one most upset about his performance in April and I am sure he feels the same now. Except now he realizes he needs to rest and heal. He has been a great teammate and is a class guy.

This go’s along with exactly the way Cox manages . Cox believes in veteran players over rookies any day. Freeman would have been an obvious choice but experience tell Cox that during a play off the best pitchers in baseball will be giving it all they have and to have Glaus and Lee in the same line up will give the Braves the best chance for success. Freeman can handle AAA pitchers but pitchers like Wainwright, Halladay, Oswalt, Hamel and all the other top pitchers on the contending teams would have a field day with Freeman. I hope Glaus can come back healthy and help at 3rd . He is a very good 3rd baseman when healthy. Also a number one class act and deserves every opportunity to help Atlanta get to and win in the playoffs.

You cannot keep relying on a 9th inning hit to keep winning games. This team relies too much on late inning luck. That wont last forever, and it certainly wont last into the post-season. The Braves are inconsistent in their hitting the stats prove that,. And how many saves has the Great Billy Wagner blown? This team wont make it past the 1st Round of the Playoffs with the way it is playing.

They should have DESTROYED this team tonight. But they didnt. They had to get a lucky swing in the 9th inning to beat a team that they should have beaten by 4 runs at least.

I have also been distressed by the moribund performance of Glaus. He’s been a rally killer for along time. But it’s undeniable that without him, the Braves would not be in first. I think he understands that he’s not going to be able to contribute at the level needed, so he’ll go to Gwinnett and give it a try. He looks brittle and clumsy and sore, and if the rest can provide some flexibility and get his bat speed up again, I have no doubt that he’ll play a role down the stretch. I hope so. This is the feel good season, and I don’t want anyone left out.

jayvee

It’s also true that the Braves that with a couple of exceptions, the Braves have been in an offensive funk for some time. Other than Prado, Infante and sometimes Cabrera, nobody is consistently dangerous. It’s a credit to their tenacity — and exquisite pitching — that they’ve been able to win while their bats slumber. The bats of Heyward, McCann, Gonao and Dias are due to heat up, and if they do, the Braves could win this division by 6 or 7 games.

Meanwhile, I am finally beginning to grasp that the Padres are for real and probably will win the West. Bud Black should be hands down manager of the year. The additions of Ludwick and Tejada give them some needed pop. The Braves had better finish strong and get the home field, because methinks the Padres will be pretty salty on their home field in the playoffs.

I hope he can comeback and play alittle 3rd. If he can’t then he just be a RH power bat off the bench. I mean he couldnt be any worse than Greg Norton, right?

I like Glaus, and he has been playing hurt. But he is a college educated man playing for a new multimillion dollar contract, so it is more a good business move to get paid. Besides, $12k to heal up is not that bad. Also he still could be this year’s World Series MVP. So yes he deserves some credit, but let’s not throw a parade. If he was a NBA, then his actions would be considered extraordinary.

He’s basically entering journeyman status at this point in his career. (watch how many teams he plays with from here on out….there’s a reason the Braves got him so cheap)
What playoff team would pick him up to start if released? (crickets)

Why the hell is he to be lauded for being so classy?

I don’t get people who bash their team’s players, manager, etc. We’re in first place, but Glaus and Bobby Cox had nothing to do with it. Ankiel plays good D and has hit enough, but he’s bashed, too. Unless a guy is dogging it, I support my team and bash the other guy’s team. Like I said, I don’t get it. Some people like to feel like know-it-alls, I guess.

Glaus should consider retiring after this season, as his demeanor in the dugout is reflecting that he doesn’t want to be here. He’s slow, many times can’t handle the double play situations (started by him), and he’s out of shape (overweight). Maybe another team might help him, but who would want him now? Ankiel is gone after the season (or sooner), with the trade being a bad investment. I just hope they haven’t given away the farm to get all of the old veterans, and Lee may not be the player they need either, just hope he is. I think the infield gets better now than it’s been the whole season, and maybe for seasons to come. Now if Chipper would decide not to come back and rob the Braves for another $14M, maybe this is the beginning of 1991 all over again.

Tami – yes D Lee will get the day off, an extra day to rest his back.

GOBOSOX – what free agents are you referring to? I see some of the outfielders (Melky, Ankiel) and some in the bullpen (Wags if he indeed retires but replaced by Venters, Saito, Farnsworth), Glaus (replaced by Freeman), Hinske (possibly resigned or replaced), and two team options that will be definitely picked up – Infante and Gonzo. That’s not an extreme amount of FA’s.

Quality attendance there by a first place team during their hall of fame managers last season. Glaus definitely deserves a tip of the hat at the least….maybe even some apologies. He was definitely the spark that got this thing going. He got hot when half the lineup looked asleep at the plate. Without his bat during May and June, the Braves probably enter the all-star break at least 6 games back. With the Phillies recent play, that means 11+ games back right now and no Lee trade (Phils have gained 4.5 games on the Braves since last week of July).

I would dog him for this cold streak he is on, but he isnt healthy. Everyone knows it, and opposing pitchers are taking advantage of it.

He has stood in there knowing he isnt healthy, and tried his best, taken everyone’s shot at him, and still said nothing negative.

Seeing his attitude after that Lee trade, you just have to realize that Glaus is a class act who just wants to get healthy and help the team.

No guys running out of the lockerroom when things go bad, no one complaining about playing time. I really believe that this year has been one of Bobby’s best managing jobs, what will all the different moving parts that he’s had to work with. By the way, with Lee, Heyward, Hinske, Glaus, Ross, Hanson and the beast Farnsworth, I don’t think anyone would want to rumble with us. Gluas should get his bonus incentives even if he doesn’t reach the 550 at bats. Without him we’d be chaseing the Phillys and could be closer to the Mets in the standings. The guy has driven in 70 runs, last I knew that was our rbi leader.
Glaus was a class act as a Angel ( my AL team I root for) and I figured we’d get the same team player he was with the Halo’s.

Because of Glaus the Braves surged to first place in May and June and haven’t lost the lead since. His contribution during that 6 week period, when most others weren’t hitting, got the Braves to where they are now. His 15 Hr and 70 Rbi’s have contributed greatly. Jawbone,

What is going to be embarrassing for the Phillie fans is the payroll of the Phillies is $142M as opposed to the Braves $84.5 million. The attendance for Atlanta, 1.9 million so far, Philly, 2.6M. Also Philadelphia schools go back on Sept. 7th as opposed to most schools in the Atlanta area going back Aug. 2nd, 5th or 9th.
Philly is only drawing 700K more for their club while the city of Philadelphia has 1million more people. I would say not too bad.
Either way, we will gladly take the Eastern Division title over the attendance and your $142m payroll.
It must really bug the people in Philly to know their team just cannot catch the Braves, despite one of the best winning percentages in the last 4 weeks in recent years.

Troy Glaus has nothing to complain about. He is making millions of dollars to play a kids game. The business of baseball is a business and thats what many players dont think about. Players get caught up and fooled that the clubs they play for will keep them forever. Then when they get blindsided by a trade or suddenly get released they start “bad mouthing” the club that sent them packing. Troy Glaus was simply a “bandaid” pickup until we got somebody who could help us. Thats where Derek Lee comes in. For the Braves to acquire Lee for virtually nothing reminds me of the Fred McGriff trade years ago that cemented the Braves Lone World Series Run in 1995. Without the McGriff trade the Braves would have continued to come up failures in the post-season. By having the crime dog around, Fred gave the Braves a championship pedigree (both McGriff AND the surgeon general (Greg “Mad Dog” Maddox). With those two future hall of famers you knew the Braves had something special and they were not going to be denied becoming World Champions which they did. Now it appears history is about to repeat itself because I think the Braves have the most entertaining and most exciting team in the majors (when they are healthy). With a healthy Troy Glaus, Chipper Jones, Martin Prado, Jayson Heyward, AND NOW Derek Lee, I dont think there is anybody in baseball who can stop the Atlanta Braves. Stay tuned, the playoffs are coming up in just a few short weeks. TROY GLAUS WAS A GOOD PICKUP FOR THE BRAVES, BUT HIS DAYS IN A BRAVES UNIFORM ARE NUMBERED AND HE WILL BE THROUGH IN ATLANTA VERY SOON.

I KNOW THAT MOST PEOPLE ARE ESTACTIC ABOUT THE DEREK LEE TRADE, THERE ARE SOME FOLKS OUT THERE LIKE MYSELF WHO FEEL THIS IS A DIRECT SLAP IN THE FACT TO TROY GLAUS. I MEAN, TROY HAS ALMOST SINGLEHANDEDLY GIVEN THE BRAVES RECOGNITION AGAIN HELPING HOIST THE BRAVES INTO FIRST PLACE WHERE THEY LIVED FOR 14 YEARS WHEN THEY WERE SPINNING OUT DIVISION TITLES AS THOUGH THEY WERE COMING OFF THE ASSEMBLY LINE. THATS THE THANKS THAT TROY GETS FOR HELPING THE BRAVES BECOME RELEVANT AGAIN, THE BRAVES HAVE BACKSLAPPED TROY BY GOING OUT AND GETTING DEREK LEE. THIS MOVE SIGNALS THE END FOR TOY GLASS AND IT ALMOST IS A CERTAINTY THAT THE GUY (SANTA CLAUS) WONT BE BACK NEXT SEASON TO PERFORM HIS MAGIC ON THE BRAVES. THE BRAVES HAVE BEEN GREAT EVER SINCE GLAUS ARRIVED AND I’M AFRAID THAT AS SOON AS WE GET RID OF GLAUS, THEN THE BRAVES WILL GO BACK TO BECOMING A LAST PLACE CLUB. I TELLYOU THE BRAVES ARE UNGRATEFUL FOR GLAUS AND HAVE SHOWED GLAUS AN INCREDIBLE AMOUNT OF DISRESPECT. PICKING UP DEREK LEE JUST ABOUT SIGNALS THE END FOR GLAUS AND NOW IT IS THE ONE MOVE THAT PUTS THE NAIL IN THE COFFIN FOR GLAUS.

Good blog. Glaus has always been a professional, class act. The booing he got in April, the cheers he got in may and june, again the booing the last two months, he never swayed one way or the other. Fact is the braves are in 1st place because of Glaus. He flat out carried this team for a month and a 1/2. The guy goes out everyday with a bum knee and is struggling, but DOESNT complain a bit. If you’ve been to a game or watch the braves, you can see he’s got ZERO mobility at this point. I’m not sure how he’s gonna play 3rd at this point. He needs knee surgery. But again, he doesn’t complain, get’s to work. I wish guys like Farve or any other high profile sissy would be more like this. Get to work, play hard, don’t complain, give all you’ve got and be part of the team. It’s been a pleasure to watch Glaus this season and I hope that he re-signs with this team next season. Spud Webb: Go back to winning slam dunk contests. You are way off base on this one. Derek Lee is exactly like Fred McGriff because Lee is still in his prime and having Lee in the lineup gives the Braves lineup just as much PUNCH in it as the Phillies lineup. The Braves can match the Phillies lineup blow for blow and the Braves have the overall BETTER STARTING PITCHING and BETTER RELIEF PITCHING. I would say that right now the Braves are the odds on favorites to win the world series. I see absolutely no one challenging the Braves at all.

I agree, the way Glaus handled this was professional and really shows what kind of person he is. I have been pulling for him all year. Its true his future is anything but certain for the rest of this year. I agree that it is very doubtful that he will become the Braves everyday third baseman, but its great that they are at least open to the idea. They will know if its possible after a few days in Gwinnett. At a very minimum I think with rested legs he could be another weapon off the bench and a good back up for Derek Lee, which will be needed.

Great move all the way around…I just think Glaus brings even more fire to this lineup knees or no knees. He’s a class act and my respect for him just increased even more by the way he handled this. Baseball is a brutal game on veterans at times with physical issues and this season other than May has shown that on Glaus. I still believe in him, and believe he will be a vital part of this team’s unprecendented run to September and beyond. We have a real chance this year; The Phillies had their run and still couldn’t catch us. We just got to stay in first till we get them on schdule again and put them away for the season; Lee is going to be a force to be reckoned with. I hope we can sign him for a season or two more

Troy Glaus with two healthy knees could be REALLY dangerous off the bench in October. I hope he is healthy by then. I know he didnt want the DL placement, and he is probably delusional to think that he can go to third next year even in a platoon situation, since his body could not hold up for half a season at 1st this year (granted he was penciled into the lineup almost every damn day for 3 months, it seems) but I am pulling hard for the guy. Ahealthy Glaus is an all-star, and an injured Glaus is a non-complaining good guy who is NO drama queen. Get well, Troy, we are pulling for you.

There are a few dummies out there who think the race between the Phils and Braves is over. Let me remind you that the Braves are only 2.5 games ahead of the Phillies. That is not a 12.5 lead or a 22.5 lead. That lead or deficit by the Phils can be made up in just a few days. What is the magic number for the Braves clinching the division. I would be more concerned with that number than the fact that the Braves are just clinging and hanging onto the division lead by a thread. There should be cause for concern about the Braves. Should the Braves falter or misstep just bareley, the Phillies will overtake them. The lead is a slim lead but the Braves are still in the commanding position. I will feel more comfortable about the Braves lead when they expand the lead to AT LEAST 8 GAMES, WITH 5 GAMES REMAINING. Then I will breathe a sigh of relief. Braves fans should also be more concerned with will the Braves do in the post season. Remember during the Braves run of 14 consecutive division titles there was one successful season that culminated in a world series championship. The other 13 division titles were a failure because the Braves didnt have anything to show for those years but emptiness and ultimately showing that they were losers.

IF THERE IS SOMEONE OUT THERE WHO BECAUSE OF HIS PLAY HAS HELPED THE BRAVES GET INTO 1ST PLACE AND STAY THERE, ITS TROY GLAUS. GLAUS EASILY HAS BEEN THE BRAVES MVP OF THE SEASON SO FAR. NOT HUDSON, NOT HEYWARD. GLAUS HAS BEEN THE GUY WHO HAS GIVEN THE BRAVES THIS CHAMPION MENTALITY. GLAUS SHOULD BE REWARDED WITH A 10-YEAR CONTRACT.

The Braves should be careful not to gloss over the fact that Glaus is their M-V-P!!! Without Glaus the Braves would be where the Mets are: 10 games out. With Glaus, the SKY IS THE LIMIT for the Braves THIS YEAR and there is a great chance the Braves will give Bobby Cox an explosive sendoff by winning a world title, so that Bobby will go out into retirement with a BANG!!!!

Its time to give Glaus a raise! Think of this folks. The Braves magical season thus far WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN POSSIBLE had it not been for Troy Glaus. Troy is the guy who is responsible for the Braves enjoying their renaissance season of greatness. All Hail to Troy Glaus!!!! In fact I’ll go on record right now and say, as soon as Bobby retires at the end of this season, the Braves should promote Troy Glaus to PLAYER-MANAGER IMMEDIATELY!!! Now thats an idea that no one but myself (baseball expert) would come up with.

JackieRobinson: I agree with you. First of all thanks for breaking the color barrier. TROY GLAUS, as of now, has literally single-handedly SAVED THE BRAVES SEASON. Looking through rose-colored glasses, without Glauses contributions the Braves would be in DEAD LAST PLACE instead of first place beating the crap out of the Phillies. Its been an incredible train ride this season and when the Braves win the world series, it should send off Bobby Cox royally on a cloud of glory.

If the Braves were in two leagues. One with compitition based on character and one based on winning MLB baseball competition, they would be in good shape because they would have an excellent chance to win the character compitition year after year. However, as much as we, the fans appreciate their character, we would appreciate more if management would be as “financially” concerned wth that compitition! How does 96 million compete with 230 million?

I’m answering the BLOG of the person who said, “Why should Glaus be credited? Because before Troy Glaus came along and provided his all-star play, the Braves have missed the playoffs for about six or seven straight seasons. The Braves were completely OFF THE RADAR with respect to serious competing relative to the playoffs. Sure the Braves gave Colorado a run last year, but the Braves came up short and kept watching others teams make the playoffs. Troy Glauss comes along, Jason Heyward gets promoted to the big team, Bobby Cox shuffles the lineup carefully and all of a sudden THE BRAVES HAVE THE BEST TEAM IN BOTH LEAGUES. Its so exciting I cant stand it and I know that its just one season, but I think Bobby Cox is about to be on the winning side (finally) of managing a world series victorious team. No one deserves it more than Bobby because although Bobby has been in baseball for over 50 years, his resume is almost empty with respect to world series wins (ONE). We would like to get him at least one more so he can ride off into the baseball diamond in the sky when he retires.

Where Oh Where is Freeman. He looks far better at the plate than either Glaus or Lee and is hitting about .320. He should have been brough up weeks and weeks and weeks ago when Glaus failed to produce. Granted, we do not know if he would have continued to hit anything like he is at AAA; but why in the world did they not give him a chance and fince out? If they had, we might now have a significant lead in the Division. Aftr all, we have been playing for weeks and weeks and weeks with an absolute hole in the 4th or 5th spot in the batting order.
Sadly, even if they bring Freeman up in September, Bobby Cox will probably not play him instead of Lee – even if Lee is still not producing.

The big question is – Which will prove to be worse – The Phillies – Or Bobby Cox’s managing?

Reggie: I’m glad you liked my BLOG. I think I’ll write another one. You think I overdramatized Cox, well its not me who the loser is. Cox right now is clueless about getting his Braves to win games. Look at the last homestand. The Braves lost a series sweep to the Rockies and GAINED a 1/2 game to the Phillies while the Phillies were losing 4 straight to the Houston Astros. I know that Bobby Cox has nothing to do with that, but I think the Derek Lee trade has DISRUPTED the wonderful chemistry that the Braves had before Lee came along. I have nothing against Lee, but the Braves after the all-star break had probably the best record in baseball and had been sizzling in August going into September before Lee comes along. Lee is penciled in the lineup and all of a sudden the Braves revert to their horrible April when they couldnt win a ballgame if the game was handed to them on a silver platter. Most fans right now are just hurting real bad because they thought with the Phillies losing four to the Astros would allow the Braves to pad their lead up to six games, which they could have done. Instead now you will have a dogfight with the Braves barely hanging onto the division lead and the Phillies are charging coming down the stretch like a runaway freight train. I sure dont want to see the Braves ruin their wonderful season. I am stunned that the Braves are losing right now, but all I can hope for is that the Braves soon pull out of their losing streak and start winning big and reaping the rewards for signing Derek Lee. I hope that Lee doesnt turn out to be another bust as many of the Braves past trades were, although with Lee the Braves gave up almost nothing to get him but a couple of incidential prospects. I hope Derek Lee turns out to be a difference maker but so far Lee has come in and DISRUPTED THE CHEMISTRY on a championship ballclub. You may agree or disagree but I dont care.
