One of Georgia’s most celebrated recruits might be in trouble.

Christian LeMay, the nation’s No. 2 ranked quarterback according to Scout.com, is facing suspension at his high school in Charlotte and could miss up to half of the 2010 season, according to a report in the Charlotte Observer.

The report said LeMay is, “accused of breaking a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools’ code of conduct rule, which could bring an out-of-school suspension that could last up to 30 days.”

He has a hearing  scheduled for Monday at the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools’ East Learning Center.

It’s not known if Georgia coach Mark Richt is aware of the situation. But Georgia sports information director Claude Felton said today, “We’re not allowed to talk about players who haven’t signed yet.”

LeMay verbally committed to Georgia on April 30. He picked the Bulldogs over three other finalists — Clemson, Notre Dame and Texas A&M.

The Butler High School quarterback said at the time, “Every time I went [to Georgia] I just felt good about it. It was also the fact that every time I went there and left I couldn’t get it off my mind. I was constantly thinking about it and how I fit there, how coach Richt is. Me and him share the same personal beliefs. But also competing at the top level and trying to be successful in our Christian walk as well as on the football field.”

LeMay threw for 3,296 yards and 44 touchdowns with only two interceptions as a junior last season. He led Butler to an undefeated season and the Class 4A state championship in North Carolina.

The report did not specify what LeMay’s potential code of conduct violation was.  Neither Butler’s coach, Mike Newsome, nor the player’s father, Stacy LeMay, would comment to the Charlotte Observer.

Jeff,
Please make sure that you and your AJC brethren research the Robert Hall CRIMINAL charge with the same fervor that you write about how a UGA recruit MAY (not has) be suspended.

Looks like we can add Mr. Hall’s name to the GTU felony club, which includes: Reuben Houston, Jarrard Tarrant (who is still playing for CPJ) and Joe Hamilton (poor excuse for a Heismna runner up)

Dawgs RUN THIS STATE.

Lowcountry Bulldawg — No question the “rush” to post news permeates our industry now. It can be a problem. I will say this, however. This story was already out there, since Thursday night, really. Nothing will change until the hearing Monday (if even then). If the AJC completed ignored the story, we wouldn’t be doing our job. And if the kid is exonerated — or cleared or whatever — that obviously will be reported too. But once the story is out, it’s out. Thanks.

Double Standard AJC — You’re killing me, man. Seriously? Look. I was alerted to the LeMay story in the Charlotte paper. I phoned the office. Nobody was reporting it for us. A few of our writers are on vacation this week. I wrote the blog on it. At no point did I stop to think, “Oh no! I can’t write about LeMay without something about a Tech player too!” I didn’t even know about the Tech player. And that’s not even the point. We had to get this up online. And guess what? He’s big news! He was HUGE news when he signed. Now, if you want to sit there and grumble and spout off that I must have some anti-Georgia agenda because I wrote the LeMay blog, that’s fine. But dude, you’ve got no leg to stand on.

Whoa whoa whoa! Isn’t this the same kid who said he chose his school (or technically “leader”) based on his conversations with God himself and even had his “big” announcement in his church?? No, it doesn’t sound like he did anything serious (at least let’s hope he didn’t), but that’s a pretty high standard to uphold when God himself tells you where to go play your football. And if that’s indeed your claim then you better go the straight and narrow or you will open yourself up to this type of crticism.

Folks,
The kid got into trouble….not Jeff. He’s a reporter and it is news. That being said (and this is from a Gator), this is in NO WAY a reflection on UGA. He hasn’t even finished high school. There is really no way of knowing what a high school kid will do from day to day. Don’t have such thin skin, guys. You know there will always be rival fans jumping on anything negative they can.
Give the man a break.

Did everyone start drinking early this Friday? As a Dawg fan, I have no gripes about Schulz posting this legitimate story. I want to hear the good and bad news about the Dawgs.

Sir,
I truly do not believe you have a GT agenda versus a UGA agenda. Just question why you dedicated a blog post to an unconfirmed story out of a Charlotte newspaper.
I get the fact the KID is a highly recruited college prospect and any news related to LeMay is going to be a story of interest to UGA fans. But I question the legitimacy of this blog post because he is a high school kid not enrolled into UGA and other then his verbal agreement to attend the school is not really associated with the school. The fact that no one even knows what happened in the incident involving LeMay is also troubling that YOU made this a blog post. I also question why you make no mention of the GT football player who is accused of allegedly striking his girlfriends head against the wall…as reported by Cox owned Channel 2 news at 6:00pm telecast which by the way was a top story. Surely even you can see why individuals on this blog are frustrated with this blog post.

On another note…..what is AJC doing to make these blogs a better environment for people who would like to discuss the issue’s that you post. And less about comparing crimes committed on the UGA campus or the GT campus or any of the other garbage that is written on here?

Good grief, give Lemay and JS both a break. JS is right, the kid is news and he needs to report it.

Supposedly CMR and Co. will discuss tomorrow. And I believe Lemay is in Athens this weekend for a summer camp, so they can talk to him face-to-face.

I called my one REALLY reliable source who said, USC is a big deal, this is not. He heard the same as the rest of us, the rumor that Lemay was caught for a possible sex act in public or possibly on school grounds. Wow a 17 year-old caught having sex, lets pull his scholarship! Are you kidding?

Let’s wait till Monday when the facts come out. Until then everyone take a breath, and….especially the Georgia haters….. shut the hell up!

Double Standard AJC? Dude give it up…your gripe should be with the High School releasing this info not w/the press for reporting on it.

You people are really something. Every one of you trashing Lemay and Richt over something that no one here knows the facts, or even rumors about. Thing is, I assume if you are even reading this post, you are a college football fan. That being said, every team in America, including yours has KIDS (key word kids, kids do dumb things) that screw up daily. Hell I know plenty of 30, 40 and 50 year old adults that screw up.

My point is, if you want to talk about your team and it’s season, players, games, etc., fine. But don’t use your energy to comb through the news and look for your rival players trouble with the law while you ignore and make excuses for your own.

Since no one on here knows Christain personnaly, I figured I will tell each and everyone of you something about him. Just playing next to him I can tell you that he is one of the strongest christains I know. Sure we all make mistakes, but I can almost gaurantee you, because I know Christain very well, his morals and values would never put him in a bad situation. We should all look at Christain as a leader beacause not only is he a great and trustworthy friend, but he is also a devout Chrisatin who shows his faith on and off the field.

Wow. He is already committing infraction at a Sophomore level.

Rev. Richt has gotta be proud of this one’s morals. Perhaps he should party with Zach in Valdosta for pointers.
