Quarterback Christian LeMay was a media star the night he verbally committed to Georgia in April. (Chip Towers/AJC)
One of Georgia’s most celebrated recruits might be in trouble.
Christian LeMay, the nation’s No. 2 ranked quarterback according to Scout.com, is facing suspension at his high school in Charlotte and could miss up to half of the 2010 season, according to a report in the Charlotte Observer.
The report said LeMay is, “accused of breaking a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools’ code of conduct rule, which could bring an out-of-school suspension that could last up to 30 days.”
He has a hearing scheduled for Monday at the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools’ East Learning Center.
It’s not known if Georgia coach Mark Richt is aware of the situation. But Georgia sports information director Claude Felton said today, “We’re not allowed to talk about players who haven’t signed yet.”
LeMay verbally committed to Georgia on April 30. He picked the Bulldogs over three other finalists — Clemson, Notre Dame and Texas A&M.
The Butler High School quarterback said at the time, “Every time I went [to Georgia] I just felt good about it. It was also the fact that every time I went there and left I couldn’t get it off my mind. I was constantly thinking about it and how I fit there, how coach Richt is. Me and him share the same personal beliefs. But also competing at the top level and trying to be successful in our Christian walk as well as on the football field.”
LeMay threw for 3,296 yards and 44 touchdowns with only two interceptions as a junior last season. He led Butler to an undefeated season and the Class 4A state championship in North Carolina.
The report did not specify what LeMay’s potential code of conduct violation was. Neither Butler’s coach, Mike Newsome, nor the player’s father, Stacy LeMay, would comment to the Charlotte Observer.

Not really. I’d hoped for something from the University. I was unaware that UGA couldn’t comment.

Lowcountry Bulldawg — Doesn’t really matter if it’s a Georgia fan, a Tech fan or the Queen of England who brought the story to my attention. It’s a story. It’s being investigated. That’s it.

Too bad Sonny Clusters wasn’t around to advise him that if you’re going to have sex, have the sense to have it in the parking lot of the Dairy Queen, on the end with the busted streetlight.
That’s the problem with kids today; no one around to mentor them.

Bierra, Houston, and now this current Tech felon Robert Hall, it’s all small cookies…
… when you remember that Tech was a proud host to an Al Qaeda TERRORIST, teaching him all the kinds of things terrorists need to know in order to fulfill their call to jihad and send all us infidels to Allah.
Remember that. Terrorism. Georgia Tech.

I choose to hold my opinion until the facts are heard. This could be as simple as messing around with a girl (not necessarily even sex) on school grounds..hey didn’t we all try that stuff at some point…ok the lucky ones anyway? If it’s more serious then the facts will come to light soon enough

Lemay all the way! – Georgia players get arrested for generally the exact same things that (normal) college students do all the time – underage drinking.
It’s not their fault the Atlanta PD is otherwise occupied trying to keep the entire tech student body from getting mugged.

I tried to tell you people in one of my post that something wasn’t right about that kid. I can read personality and behavior pretty good. I tried to warn people about Michael Vick a few years back on the falcon’s message board about his behavior but people took it as a joke. You people will see what I mean when LeMay get to campus.

It would be nice if our identity, address, and phone number was posted at the same time as our comments on blogs. People would be a little more restrained instead of just mouthing off all the time with absolutely nothing to bring to the conversation. Then again, all the wackos would come out in the day instead of the night to come find you. Great. Anyway, people let’s have a little decency when talking. Schultz is only reporting what he has found out about a UGA player, which IS of interest to Dawg fans like myself. Come on people!

Jeff and “JayDawg”,
Its not persay about not reporting it. I believe the 1st Amendment gives Jeff that right. It is more or less about rushing to get it out there, before we now much if anything about the situation. Now I know the Charlotte Observer dfirst broke it and it is well within Jeff’s job to continue to post on this.
The aggravating part of this lies with in the fact that w/in the confines of this blog and lack of substantial “teeth” to the story it just furthers the fires of outsiders to continue the childish, ” I told you so” mentality.
I throughly respect Jeff, and enjoy all of his writings, but at some point I will disagree and it is my right to voice my displeasure. JayDawg, you may disagree with me and that is certainly allowed, but when you revert to calling names, well then you show just how unintelligent you sir are.
Thanks Jeff for all you do…and try to get some rest!

GeoffDawg nails it.
At Georgia, kids get in trouble for jaywalking, having open containers in public, underage drinking, driving scooters without a license, stupid little misdemeanors. Every once in a long while, you get a Zach Mettenberger who does something REALLY stupid while drunk, but in the end, it’s still a MISDEMEANOR.
At Tech, they bring criminal charges against their kids. At Tech, you get big-time DRUG DEALERS. At Tech, you get your defensive captain kicked off the team for being a criminal. At Tech, you have Al Qaeda operatives walking around Atlanta trying to case buildings to be blown up. At Tech, you can’t walk down the street without getting mugged.
Yep. It’s not even close.

Jeff, I think the point that stick with Dawg fans is that when it involves a GT player that is facing CRIMINAL charges it gets a 3 paragragh byline (or whatever the proper newspaper term). When it involves an UGA, one of the top AJC writers opens up a column on it and every opposing fan gets to pour in on the poor kid and we don’t even have clue what happened. He will be called a thug, Richt’s Mother and religion will be called into question and you will smugly stand by and watch all the while proclaiming how you just report the news with no bias whatsoever towards UGA. Yep….no bias whatsoever.

umm, heres a word of advice for all of yall. dont make up rumors about ppl you dont even know. he could have done so many different things, and i personally think everyone should give him a break! all high school students mess up here and there. everyone has cheated, or got detention, or was caught doing something wrong here and there. there is no need to question his love for God. EVERY ONE makes MISTAKES! so just chill out, keep your mouths shut, and leave him and his family alone.

Christians understand the fact that they fall way short of perfection. It is the cornerstone of Christianity. I’m not sure why we spend so much time on blogs pointing out that Christians are sinners. No one knows that more than we do. Why can’t we just blog about sports?

THUGA criminal count holding steady at 6 so far this year, 2 behind last year. AD Dam Evans was quoted We can not count Christian in our police record count because we do not comment on recruits. When questioned about his indescretion LeMay said ““Every time I went to THUGA I just felt good about it. It was also the fact that every time I went there and left I couldn’t get it off my mind. I was constantly thinking about it and how I fit there, how coach Richt is. Me and him share the same personal beliefs.
